How to Never Fall | Rev Mark Brown

i love the lord he's so good you may be seated i thank you is an understatement you have been so kind to a stranger you have trusted a stranger and uh you've impacted my wife and i and our children this week and we have memories that we will take home with us that will live on with us and um i don't know how to say it other than there's just some places that we go that it's as if the lord fuses something about the church into our spirit and a a burden gets a hold of us i'm not saying that i don't step up to a pulpit trying to operate without a burden but some places it's harder to capture that than others i don't know why it is what it is all i know is that god has helped me not to take this week lightly ministering to you my objective my goal is admitting sensitive to the lord and not to give you hype i really i really do want to help you i really do want to help you and i want to say thank you as well for helping us and if they have picture my family i always try to introduce them and you heard from my wife and uh i said this that's a memory here on mother's day thank you for letting us celebrate mother's day here and i said this on sunday evening i'll say it again one of the near audible voices of god that i've heard in my life i only have a handful of times it was as audible as i could here and the lord said if it was not for my wife's covering i would be in hell and my wife is not an accessory she is a powerful ally in ministry and i love her and i love my children and uh thank you i heard an elder say this one time a pastor he told his church if you ever want to show me honor honor my wife if you love your pastor and you ever want to honor him i promise you if you just simply honored his wife it's very important that we realize that dynamic because sometimes the wife becomes a target and we begin to attack the woman of god and that happened to moses wife they didn't like moses wife so they said something about her privately in their own tent but god heard it and uh it'd be good for you to let god hear you say good things about your spiritual leadership this church is blessed with good spiritual leadership hallelujah hallelujah i give honor to your media team and your music team probably the most overworked underpaid individuals are musicians and audio visual technicians and you all have done a fantastic job this week and i'm thankful that we did not have to compete one with another we have completed one another in jesus name and i give honor to the worship team i have been married for 17 years we have three wonderful children noah grace and eden know will be 12 this monday grace is nine eden is six and uh when we had our first child i uh i already mentioned that a newborn doesn't do much for me it's a pretty horrible thing to admit but i like interaction i like affirmation for my low self-esteem and insecurity and inferiority complex i need to i need a little affirmation and uh so when my son would start interacting it was exciting and when he started learning to walk it was a joyous time and uh but there's a problem with the brown dna uh is that we have the torso of a mouse in the cranium of a beach ball we're a little top-heavy it's what you might call a life-size bobble head and so teaching us how to walk is is difficult and so i remember my top heavy son trying to let his legs carry the weight of that cranium that i gave him and we would put up those baby gates on stairs to to try to prevent kids from going up and down stairs or falling and my wife she went on some errands or something along that nature and she trusted me to watch our son and so we have the baby gate up we were in a home uh our previous home that we lived in it was a hundred and i don't know like 106 years old old house it's a very steep staircase that ascended let me put that baby gate up and i had to go upstairs for something and uh so i picked up my son i opened the baby gate and i i ran upstairs quickly and as i went upstairs i went into the room and i set him down and i didn't want to set up the baby gate because we didn't have like this fancy one where you know it's automatic slide door or anything like that and so i just set him down because that's going to be very quick very brief and as i went to take care of the aaron all of a sudden i heard thud thud thud thud it was about the same amount as thuds as there were stairs then there was silence then there was i ran down those stairs as fast as i could and i pick up my little my little tax credit i'm trying to my son and i'm oh boy freudian slip i'm trying to console my child and the good thing about the brown cranium is that it's pretty indestructible and so he's got the the whimpering cry and he's starting to collect himself and after i call him down i asked him if he was okay and he looked at me and he said dad i don't want to fall again and when he said that immediately i thought to myself much doesn't change as you grow we all fall for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god and we have that nature with us until we take on a new nature and no one likes to fall again i want to speak to you just for the next few moments i i i i really did not think i was going to go here this evening i i thought we were going to go on the realm of some inspiration but i felt god really worked me over before coming here to teach to teach i know that it's the last night of revival we're supposed to have seizures and just go crazy but i really do feel like i need to teach tonight because we've already shot off some places i want to make sure we leave grounded and i want to talk to you about how to never fall how to never fall did you know in your bible there is a scripture in second peter 1 10 that says look you need to be diligent you got to give diligence to your calling god has called you to make your calling in your election sure certain absolute that it would come to pass and the last statement in that verse is very striking it says if you do these things you will never fall that's right there in your bible in the new testament there are some things that if you and i would do them you don't have to fall again now in case you think i'm cherry picking we can go through a lot of verses that relate this same concept jude 1 24 being one of them says now unto him who is able to keep you from within the realm of all of god's power in greatness is the ability to keep you from falling and to present you faultless and he does it with exceeding joy it is god's good pleasure to give you the kingdom the bible goes on to say in psalm 18 36 he can enlarge your steps under you so your feet do not slip i'm looking at a group of people here that we have a desire to do what is right for god we want to do something for the lord and paul had this same battle royale going on between two natures within himself in romans 7 18 goes look i i find to desires two wills inside of me i i find present within me this desire to do good but how to perform that i find not i want to do it but i just don't know how to do it sometimes anyone ever find yourself there you want to do the best that you can do for god and you seem to keep coming up short when my wife and i moved to south dakota we were so blessed to go to watertown and when we went there we didn't do any research we were 22 we were married a year and uh we went the week or two after graduation drove out to watertown we didn't have a job took three months to find work we lived in the basement it was fantabulous and we didn't do any research or study or demographics you know comprehension about stuff uh later i found out that it at some point it ranked the fifth coldest city in the united states of america including alaska sometimes it's good not to do research and to walk in ignorance and so it just took going through one winner there to come to this conclusion i don't want to shovel again and we were poor we didn't have money you know we were the kind of poor where you eat cereal with a fork just to save milk kind of poor am i moving too fast and so we had to scrape and save i wanted to get one of these fancy things called a snow blower you all know what that is it's like a lawnmower but it works snow over and so we saved up money and i went to a pawn shop and bought my first snow blower and i wanted to get it all geared and prepared for the upcoming forecast and so i put the oil in there i put the gasoline in there and i go to pull on that snow blower and it doesn't start the first pull but that's not uncommon just like same thing with the lawnmower doesn't always start the first pull so i did a second and then a third then a fourth then after about a hundred pulls my arm's out of socket and i'm i'm starting to get just a little bit aggravated and so i start going at it with my left arm another hundred pulls and nothing i i was so frustrated and so aggravated and i'm i'm at the point to give up and i'm i'm literally on my knees leaning on this snowblower i'm like god we don't have money to waste we're poor i need the snowblower to work and surely a god-fearing holy reverent employee of a pawn shop would not be dishonest with me there's no way there's just no way these holiness people at pawn shops would take advantage of me and so i am leaning on this snowblower i open my eyes and i see a little tube under the gasoline tank with a red switch with a picture of gasoline on it so i just turn it ever so slightly and i get up with my little atrophied t-rex arm and i barely pull on that thing and it worked fine there was nothing wrong with the snowblower i just had to make a little adjustment there was nothing wrong with your jesus name baptism and there was nothing wrong with your baptism of the holy ghost and you can find yourself frustrated in your walk with god because you don't seem to be operating in functioning as you were designed to but god brought you here tonight just to make a small little adjustment in your life and if you would make that adjustment you will operate as god intended for you to operate come on god can cause you to not always on sundays triumph the bible says he can give you the ability to always triumph in christ how long this may sound controversial but how long can you go without sinning can anyone don't raise your hand don't raise your hand but can anyone here go a year without sinning can anyone go six months without sinning anyone go one month without sinning anybody go one week without sinning can anybody go one day without sinning can anyone go one minute without sinning see when you think of the big picture it's overwhelming but as my wife stated it's not just this big picture it's a walk the bible says in the book of galatians chapter 5 verse 16 and 17 this i say then walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of that's the promise from the apostle paul under the inspiration of the holy ghost to a new testament church living in a twisted crooked perverse generation he says look if you can just walk in the spirit you don't have to give in to your flesh because your flesh lusts against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh and these two are contrary to one to the other so that you cannot do the things that ye would there's things you would like to do but you find yourself not doing them because you fall but you don't have to fall you can walk i'm not here teaching a doctrine that you can live a sinless life from here on out but i i do firmly believe that it is not the will of god for you to be struggling with a certain sin at 16 years of age and when you turn 30 you're still struggling with the same sin and then when you turn 60 you're still battling the same sin look i'm not perfect i've been serving the lord now for 29 years and i sure have fallen along the way but there's some things that god has delivered me from it's been 29 years since i cussed it's been 29 years since i drank alcohol i'm not saying i'm holier than now i'm not bragging in self-righteousness i'm glorying in the lord unto him who is able to i used to struggle with some things but i found out if i do some things god is able to he who the son has set free there are some people here tonight i know it's been a real struggle for me where when i was i i shared a little about being a prodigal going to the altar there i would have liked to return a lot sooner at moments but one of the things that kept me from going back to that altar was this thought why i'm just gonna fall again because i prayed at this altar before and go right back to high school and just do the same sin the next day and sometimes the same day as sunday am i the only human in this room i'm telling there is a god that is not his will for you to live that way till he returns god is able to radically transform you and to set you free so i i want i want to teach tonight and i want you to if you got a notebook i want you to take it out if you don't have a notebook but you have a device that you could take notes on i want you to open that up i don't want you surfing the internet i don't want you texting i don't want you going you know somewhere outside of this bill i want i want you to take some notes here tonight because i want something that you can take home with you that can help you because i'm just passing through but god does not want us to have just some life-changing moment here the past couple days but we go home back to life and nothing changes how is something a life-changing moment if nothing in our life changes by definition a life-changing moment means something about our life actually changes not just mentally not just spiritually but manifesting the word was manifest i hope the word is manifest in your life from this day forward so i present four things i'm looking at the time it's 8 30 and you already know what happens when i preach but i'm gonna i'm gonna do my dead level best before things okay i wanna teach you four things that if you do these four things you don't have to fall again i'm not saying that we don't make mistakes so along the way but there's some things i believe if you do you don't have to live in the cycle of sin over and over again number one everyone ready someone say prayer this is non-negotiable absolutely possibly you must have prayer how often every day every single day you and i need to pray prayer simply put is communication with god i mentioned luke 11 1 that the disciples they even humbled themselves finally said jesus will you teach us to pray as john taught his disciples to pray luke 18 1 he says you know we ought to pray always and not to faint the thessalonica church paul told them to pray without ceasing the bible says in philippians 4 that in everything by prayer you can talk to god about everything in your life and sometimes if we're not careful the only time we talk to god is in an emergency and it's a great place to go to in an emergency but if i only talk to my wife in emergency what kind of relationship is that our prayer life is is modeled after a husband and wife we are the bride he is the groom there is a relationship factor that needs to take place and we need to learn to talk to god more often more frequent and extend our time with him a little longer and sometimes it's emergencies we talk to them or big things but i believe god is so personable he loves to hear about the little things god cares about the smallest thing in your life that you may think is too trivial and insignificant to bring to the lord an example in the bible is all of a sudden they're building a school prophets are doing a mission work and a man that's borrowing a tool all of a sudden the head of the axe flies off into that water and he starts to panic because he borrowed that tool it's not even his and the preacher comes by and says what's wrong man he's like i had a tool and now it's in the bottom of the river i can't get it i borrowed it's not even mine modern day terms what we would do if we borrowed someone's you know hammer or we borrowed somebody's vacuum or something in it it breaks down or we misplace it we panic or we don't panic we just pull out the card and we go buy another one but never even stop to get god involved in the equation god cared about something as small as someone's borrowed tool he says where did it go he says somewhere in that direction and the man of god threw his stick and that axe head floated to the top you would see more miracles if you would start trusting god with the little things and if he sees you're faithful with the little things he can start trusting you with bigger things and here's the reality the more minscule it seems that you involve god in your life you are giving him a form of nonverbal communication that you believe that god is that personable and that he cares about you that much to that extent and to that degree god cares god cares about your misplaced keys god cares about you wanting to upgrade your apartment god cares about you wanting to get shoes that fit your kid god cares about every little insignificant thing that we think sometimes but we need to bring it to the lord in prayer and the only way you're going to work up that courage and that persuasion in that relationship is to get to know him you've got to talk to him more i've learned it this way that the deeper things of god are found in extended time with god in matthew chapter 26 verse 40 and 41. jesus in his hour of temptation and struggle he says man i i really don't want to go through this this cross thing this crucifixion and so he had to pray about it and all of a sudden he turns to his disciples that were at the same prayer meeting he found them asleep and he says what could you not pray with me for one hour the greek word for one hour is 60 minutes time hasn't changed now there's nothing in the bible says thou shalt pray one hour or you're going to purgatory or you're going to split hell wide open in a hand basket nothing tells you how long you have to pray but the principle that is found there jesus says look you need to pray at this extent right now because your spirit is willing your flesh is weak so pray that you enter not into temptation meaning there are certain struggles that you have that you will not overcome with your 10-second prayer to god about it you're here and there prayer to god about it but there's some things you need to put it in park and say god i'm just struggling right now and lord i want to come to you daily until we break this thing god i've been struggling with alcohol for 25 years and i don't want to say oh jesus thank you for this food here's my alcohol help me amen no talk to god a little longer about it go into more detail with god about it i've learned this in the relationship factor of things i try to adjust in my life in my marriage a pet peeve of my wife is when we're out to eat somewhere or we're in a public setting around the church and all of a sudden someone turns to my wife oh oh sister brown aren't you excited about da da what do you mean well your husband said that we're going to do oh he didn't tell me i have learned to talk to my wife about it as soon as possible it's not be i don't do that because i don't love her i'm not thinking like you know what i want to exclude my wife from this conversation because i want to show my disapproval for her that's not my motive i love my wife but again the nonverbal communication what does it say to my wife how does she feel when she's the last one to know and finds it second third fourth hand i i don't know what to say to god i don't know how to talk to him and i can't really i can't i tried praying more than five minutes i couldn't do it did you talk to your friend for over an hour about the business deal that you're stressed out about did you go to that coffee shop and talk about what's going on in the church for three hours with your friends did you talk to someone that you know over the phone for two hours about the divorce that's happening in your home you were texting everybody talking every about everything you told everybody in detail but god it's not that you're saying i don't love you god i don't care about you god i just want you know i have disapproval it's not in the intent of any of us at all in those moments but think about god's feelings we're always thinking about our feelings but god is touched with the feelings of our infirmities when he's standing there in the same room and he's watching you tell everybody but him it's got to grieve your creator it's got to grieve your savior just a little bit saying why do they want to tell everybody but me god wants to hear your voice god wants to hear your voice god wants to hear you talk to him and if you ever want to grow in endurance and praise and worship in this setting you build that in the home you build your communication in home you build that skill set and home we've got to learn to talk to god on a daily basis now there's a lot i want to say here but we got four things and it's already 8 37 on our way to heaven but we're good as preachers saying do this do this do this do this no but never telling you how to do it we're going to inspirational we're not good at the practical side of pentecost and so i'm just gonna give you some practical things here in bible study tonight so if you're here and you don't pray daily or you have not broke the five minute barrier or the ten minute barrier one i'm not attacking you i don't think i'm holier than you i don't think i'm better than you i'm just simply here trying to help you to grow that's simply what it is so don't get the defense mechanism up and say man i can't stand that hobbit with the microphone if i could just kick him in the no don't worry i'm trying to help you and so here's a simple model simple model if you don't know how to pray write this down a c t s acts we like the book of acts as apostolics you probably heard this before but this helped me acts a adore c confess t thanks s submit sometimes we want to go into pray and we like kind of don't know what to do and what to say but if you have a road map some some trail guides that will help you to mark where you're at on the path it will help you it will help you and so start off with adore god i adore you i worship you adore is just complimenting god any positive thing attributed to god god you're awesome god you're wonderful god you're amazing god you're incredible god you're perfect god you're holy god you're awesome god you are love god you are merciful god you are patient god you're amazing god you're powerful god i love you god i worship you god i praise you and then after you tell god how awesome he is somehow not awesome you are confess god i'm not holy i'm not perfect i fell again i messed up i'm sorry i want you to know i am sorry god and i don't want to live this way i want to change i want to repent god i confess my sins to you forgive me of what i've done wrong i'm sorry for lying so start verbalizing god i'm sorry for cheating god i'm i'm sorry for watching porn god i'm sorry for that covetousness and that jealousy and that envy that i have towards that person god forgive me for you know hitting that person in the face god forgive me lord for wrote you just start expounding what you've done wrong and say god i'm sorry i want to change and after you do that t thanks thank you god for forgiveness thank you for mercy thank you for dying for my sins thank you for washing them away thank you for giving me another chance thank you for being patient with me thank you for being merciful with me thank you that i am breathing right now thank you god i have two legs and i can walk thank you i have two hands and i can use them god i think you have eyes and i can see i think you have ears and i can hear god i thank you i have a mouth i can speak i thank you i have a mind i have rationalization god i thank you i have a roof over my if you just start thanking god long enough you'll start having an attitude of gratitude you'll be appreciative and realize how good your god is toward you thank him and then lastly s submit god i submit my needs to you god my grandma's in the hospital right now she's on life support god i submit money i turn in that resume i really would like to have this job but nevertheless not my will your will be done and god i pray favor in the workplace god i pray your hand upon my marriage my wife and i were we're just kind of butting heads right now and god i don't want to blame her i just want you to show me what can i do to make this better how can i fix this lord with the guidance of the holy ghost just start submitting your needs to god if you do each of those for five minutes you just prayed for 20 minutes it's not and when you look at the big picture of an hour it seems overwhelming but here's what happens when you start talking to god little by little you start developing and growing one more thing about prayer then we'll move on to number two when you pray realize every day whatever your your consistent struggle is your day is pretty routine you pretty much know what your day is going to look like if you're a student here you know the warfare that you walk into the high hallway high school the middle school you know the temptation you're going to face every single day and so instead of praying at the end of day start your day with prayer it doesn't have to be the bulk of your prayer but i think you should start off your day with prayer because when we step out there we're not stepping onto a cruise ship it's a battleship it is a war out there and the best thing you can do is start praying for the day that's ahead of you i pray for the day that's ahead of me before i get into the day and later in the day i have another pocket of prayer that i talk to the lord in but in the beginning i'm praying for my wife my kids my family the things i know that i'm up against i'm praying for it you'll never see some professional athlete on the sideline you know and all of a sudden it's a change of possession the offense has to go out and tom brady's like oh my goodness oh my goodness oh my gosh where's my cleats my cleats my cleats where's my helmet where's my helmet where's my shoulder oh i'm coming i'm coming he's already suited up and ready to go how often do we walk out onto the field and we have not put on the whole armor of god and you wonder why you're struggling out on the field on a full contact sport the weapons of our warfare they are not carnal they are mighty through god and so i pray the helmet of salvation i put up the shield of faith my feet are shot with the preparation the gospel of peace i got that breastplate of righteousness i'm wearing that belt of truth and i'm advancing with the sword of the spirit knowing that i am ready to meet the day with the whole armor of god i just encourage you just do that and if you can't do your half hour i would encourage you to get to a half hour of prayer because it takes a while to get into that vein of the holy ghost and the deeper things of god are found in extended time of god if you've never prayed for 30 minutes in a single session not like all if you add you know the mooring divided by two and plus five double and i prayed here and at the stop light i prayed there if you add it all together carry over the three no and one single setting because i could say i talked to my wife and try to add up all the little pocket conversations i had throughout the day those pocket conversations are not the same as me sitting down no kids in the room no phone in my hand and i look her in the eye and we talk and she has my undivided attention the best way to get god's attention is to give him your undivided attention and my wife and i accomplish more in that setting than just pocket fly-by moments throughout the day and there's some things you will not get from your relationship with god until you slow down and plan to be successful tomorrow plan today pick a time and a place if you don't have a time and a place the statistical probability of you accomplishing that is less likely pick a time pick a place write that down pick a time pick a place if you don't have a time you don't have a place more likely you're not going to accomplish what we're talking about i'm not saying it's impossible but i'm just saying it's less likely okay what was number one all right number two you ready number two bible this is non-negotiable you need to read your bible every day matthew 4 4 man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of god we need god that is our soul food that's our spiritual nourishment i mean who here you know like you know after after 62 days you're like oh my goodness i forgot to eat yeah right you know it's usually like every five minutes you're pulling out the little european handbag your satchel snack all day throughout the day but we'll go day after day after day without getting any spiritual bread into us jesus said the greatest mistake you could ever make matthew 22 29 you do air not knowing what the scriptures say nor the power of god we're making a mistake when we do not know what the scriptures say we got to get in to the word and if you're like me and you're you're absolutely the lowest iq in the room i pray this prayer because i you know you read it you're like oh my goodness i don't even understand what it says so i pray psalm 119 verse 18. god opened thou my eyes that i may behold wondrous things out of their law give me the ability to capture the spirit of your word god wants you to understand his word how about psalm 119 verse 11 you struggle with sin thy word have i hid in my heart why that i might not sin against thee you want to talk about a great sin preventative take that capsule every day take that capsule of god's word every day and build up your spiritual antibodies against that nature that you keep succumbing to take god's word in more frequent more regularly my son when he was born i i i think i mentioned that he we had an emergency c-section we're nervous so we're panicking our first kid and uh so my wife's there on the table i'm there i'm all suited up and i'm like oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god and the two doctors walk in and they're laughing and they pull out you know a scalpel and they start cutting and they're talking about the high school football game i'm like timeout hello emergency it's kind of a big deal and then it dawned on me this isn't their first rodeo you know what a you know what made me nervous them coming in yeah you know how is oh my yeah yeah uh pastor doctor i i don't know what to do here they they're asking why i dress the way i dress i i really don't know how to you know why do we baptize the way we do can you can you help me here the bible says in first peter 3 15 sanctify the lord god in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer to everyone that asketh you of the hope that is in you with meekness and with fear see those doctors they already ate their book it was a part of them so no matter what happened in the moment it would be a natural response for them to handle the situation that how long have you been a christian how long have you been apostolic and you still don't know how to accurately convey with a persuasion a conviction and a confidence to another person that does not know this apostolic way god help us to get in this book now i'm going to give you again practical advice you could write this down i know i i sound like pastor has given you guys a bible reading plan i'm not telling you to deviate that from that but here's another idea that you could use some other time if or you throw it away if you don't want you don't hurt my feelings everyone say map all right m-a-p matthew acts proverbs matthew words of god acts church of god proverbs wisdom of god now we know the whole book is all god but when you get all vivacious for christ and you're pumped up and you're just like i'm going to read through this bible right now and you open up genesis you're like dude whoa wow and you're going through all of it you're amazed you're amazed and you made it through genesis you're like yes you're getting the excellence oh my goodness exodus is even better than genesis look at that and also you get to like chapter 16 you're like furniture scabs mucilage what and what and you trudge through it the best you can then you get into numbers and you press on and you get to deuteronomy you're like wait this is like deja vu i just read all of this about furniture measurements and all of a sudden you're like deflated and you stop right am i the only human in this room because the literary style is not our typical reading style you have to grow into that sometimes so matthew acts proverbs those are exciting books and there's so much there there's more to it than matthew acts proverbs but if you're trying to develop a spiritual habit here's what you do read the chapter corresponding with the day may 1st matthew 1 acts 1 proverbs 1 may 5th matthew 5 acts 5 proverbs 5. and all three of those books have 31 chapters or less than them and every month of the year has 31 days or less in them and you go through all three of those again matthew you're reading basically the life and times of jesus it's just exciting and there's so much powerful convicting words and inspirational words then you get to the book of acts the only historical document of the church and you're like wow church should actually be awesome this is what we need to have today and it should inspire you then you get to proverbs and it's like a bowl of like chinese fortune cookies it's just like just good stuff everyone you open you're like wow wow wow and it when you read those three books every day and you do it 12 times a year i promise you the repetition will bring about revelation and it will bring about retention and there's spiritual concepts that will become part of your spirit and your dna and you're going to be set up in a moment where someone asks you a question and you just read about that and say hey this is what jesus said he what was number one prayer number two number three we gotta hurry up it's 8 52. i've been on going almost 30 minutes everyone say church this is non-negotiable positively you have to have church part of your life it is essential hebrews 10 25 not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together as a man or some is we we ought not to forsake when everyone else is forsaking the assembly and i want i said something about it last night but i believe on site is very important very i know there's this big old you know movement out there like dude bro like the church is not a building dude like you know i can have it in my living room and we sit in a circle take our shoes off and acoustic guitar kumbaya let me just let me give you a little revelation about those those groups there's two things about them that person usually has a problem with authority and wants to be the one in authority the one that's like oh dude like god you know god leads me man's not supposed to they're the ones that talk the most at these little powwows just saying think about that but i do believe that the church is a physical location because the bible teaches so we like first timothy 3 16 great is the mystery of godliness god manifests in the flesh that oneness revelation where that come from read verse 15 it says this is the church of god you are you ought to know how to behave yourself in the house of god which is the church of the living god uses two different words house and church he says the church the ecclesia the called out ones meet in a physical geographical location was talking to uh brother erickson earlier today we were talking about our time overseas in in dubai abu dhabi and and we were out there for a general conference and i was able to meet pastors from iran and syria and pastors that basically literally are laying their life on the line to have this gospel preach if there's ever a group that should say church ain't essential congregating essential i could do it in my own home why do they run the risk of congregating you know why because they know they're more at more risk alone than they are with the body you're safer with the body i like church churches full of hypocrites what you're driving are you gonna quit your job because there's hypocrites i'm not going to school there's hypocrites what look i don't go to the church because it's perfect i go to it because i'm not i need the church when i'm struggling with alcohol there's someone in this room that god set free from alcohol when i am struggling because my parents got a divorce there's someone in here today that they made it through that season i'm telling you whatever it is you need encouragement in you can find it in the house of god so i have a friend believe it or not and he was like me we don't like school i don't want to go to school again and he decided i'm not going to go any more school after high school and so he got an entry-level job at a place called jimmy john's you all know what that is it's like a sub shop okay jimmy johns entry level cashier sub maker and so he is doing his job and or the interview he tells his boss look i'm willing to work but i cannot work sunday sunday's is my thing i'm going to be at church i'm going to be a church and boss is like oh no problem well one day the boss is like i need you to work this sunday he said well i thought we had agreement i understand i told you i do not work on sundays the boss started pressuring him says well if you don't come on sunday then you're out of a job he says well i'll finish this work week but i can't work sunday he goes it's up to you so it's the last day he's working as he's working the manager like were you going to work tomorrow he's like no it's my last day it's okay district manager walks in and him in the store manager and the district manager the distributor store manager in the back room talking about whatever and whatever unfolded the store manager got fired the distributor comes out turns my friend says you're the boss you're the store manager so he gets to write his own schedule that's pretty cool he maintains his commitment as covenant and shortly thereafter he becomes the district manager shortly thereafter becomes a regional manager shortly thereafter he becomes the guy working at headquarters and today my friend now is the number two man of all of jimmy john's and he's apostolic what did jesus say in matthew 6 33 seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and i'll add all these things unto you look make god your priority there is nothing on this planet worth more what was number one what was number two you guys remember what the prayer was ax adore confess thanks submit bible map matthew acts proverbs church is it essential yeah sure yeah don't you know number four now this is where i might get fired this is where you may take your offering back but i speak to you in love i speak to you in i'm not talking about that die you eat as much hot chicken as you want but i'm talking about your intake the bible says in romans 13 make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof don't feed your carnal nature your carnal appetite there's a lot of things i can say here but we're already 30 minutes in and i want to spend at least the next 20 minutes on some there's a lot of things here i want to talk about but i want to talk about your eyes everyone say my eyes this is where the rubber meets the road folks i'm talking to a generation of screen agers constant intake think of yourself like a cow with two stomachs and you have two main ports of entry you have your eyes and your ears you talk about the ears for a while but i won't i want to talk about the eyes tonight and when anything goes before your eyes or before your ears enters into one two places your mind or your heart we can go through a lot of scripture but i'm gonna condense it for the sake of time here tonight but we need to be very intentional about our diet because here's the reality your diet will affect the other three what you take in will affect your church attendance and what you take in is going to affect your bible reading and what you take in is going to affect your prayer life i promise you i want you to write this i'm not i'm trying to read through all of it but matthew chapter 5 verses 27 through 30 jesus starts talking about the eye people think that you know the new testament the dispensation of grace is like easy cheesy no big deal and god just kind of lowered the standard forever no god held us to a higher level of expectation with grace because he says the law he says you know it's wrong to physically get bet in bed with someone and have intimacy with them when they are not your spouse sex before marriage sex outside of your marriage is a sin if you did not know that now you know jesus said that and if you are in that i'm not attacking you i'm letting you know what the bible says and the good news is jesus will forgive all sin and he will help you no matter where you're at right now in your struggle amen is there a witness in this house so don't don't don't accuse me of condemnation there's redemption in this room but here's the deal jesus says we know the physical act is wrong but i tell you the visual act is wrong he says whosoever looks upon a woman and lusts after her has committed adultery with her in his heart and he says it would be better for you to rip your eye out and cut your hand off and go to heaven looking like a pirate then you go to hell with everything full in intact he said i'd rather you rip out your iphone i'd rather you rip out your ipad whatever it is that you're struggling with right now it's not worth you losing your eternity because the visual intake can affect the spiritual intake now we're getting fewer claps and fewer people are standing but jesus said in the next chapter in case you think i'm isage eating or cherry-picking chapter 6 verse 22 and 23 he says the light of the body is the eye literally the gate the portal to your spirit is through your eye jesus said that and he says if your eye be single that means pure he says if you allow purity into you your whole body is pure but he says if your eye be evil if you allow things that are not of god through your eyes as your whole body is evil jesus was very adamant about our eyes the prophet jeremiah is a great one you can write down jeremiah 9 21 he says death is creeping in through our windows keeping the kids off the streets oh when i was your age there was kids on the playground you know why you don't see kids on playground no more they got a different playground i'm not saying video games is the devil i'm not saying your iphone is the devil but i'm telling you there are things creeping in unawares the bible says we can entertain angels unaware look if we can entertain one realm without knowing you better believe we can entertain the other realm other kinds of angels were unawares god help us that we're not in our living room entertaining angels unaware god i want pure holy angels of god in my living room i don't want that other realm my friend drew galloway says it like this he says what good is the prayer room and with what you're entertaining in the living room you can pray all you want in that prayer room and have a life-changing moment but when you go to that living room has anything changed in your diet can we lift our hands can we lift our voice holy ghost i need you right now holy ghost i need you he was so pulled into the stream be careful what you stream you can get swept up in it the bible says that serpent has a flood come out of its mouth dave is watching that episode and his eye affected his heart a man that was after god's own heart and his heart went after his eye sent for bathsheba and he committed adultery committed murder never intended to go there i'm not saying because you played a violent video game that you're going to go on a mass killing spree not saying because you saw some inappropriate image that you're going to end your marriage and commit adultery but to say that the visual doesn't affect the emotional and the spiritual that's all of a sudden dave deception into it can i be honest with you my mom and dad are first generation my mom a mexican mama from tijuana she went to prison for attempted manslaughter parents were addicted to crack they were desperate they hit rock bottom in a miracle god saved them my sister love her she she rebelled she resisted and and she she had a kid out of wedlock 15 16 years old got married left the house and i thought my parents were like you know like you know some cultic behavior keeping me from having a good time so i like going to my sister's house and i'll forget the first time i saw a pornographic image almost 20 i can't even do math very well almost 30 years ago 20 26 or so 28 years ago i can't remember now i was in middle school sixth grade whatever that is i'm sitting there watching a pg-13 movie so supposed to be okay for me this is back in the late 90s i won't name the show because i don't want to evoke an image in your mind but it showed a nude woman the first time i ever saw something happened that day i wasn't alone in that room anymore something else was there and i couldn't move the night progressed and the next show came on it wasn't pg-13 it was r and it was even more graphic and more nudity i could not get out of that room it seemed the night progressed the next show came on and it was not rated at all if i had the wherewithal and the ability to invent a time machine and to go back to one moment in my life and to do it over it would have been that day because that day my eye affected my heart and my heart went after my eye and i never looked at the other gender the same ever again and i caused much harm i was bound for years fast forward i i pray through and i god calls me to go to bible college i am like why would i go there what am i going to do with a bible degree that's not accredited but i know what the voice of god was so i went so i go and they had all these papers assigned and one one of the things that suddenly said you know you can't go to the theaters you can't watch movies i'm like was this a cult what in the what i've never seen anything like that in my life oh god told me to come i go well everyone's bootlegging not everyone but people were bootlegging i'll just say that but i'm doing my i'm doing my best to honor that because i just i just got back in church i'm trying to be a man of my word and look i work for blockbuster you all know what that is brokebuster now and so after honoring that commitment when i came back home what do you think i wanted to do i want to binge watch you know so that's what i did i got my favorite movie ever i'm not going to tell you what it was but it's my favorite it was a man's movie i can't watch animals die but i can watch people get their heads cut off my favorite part is coming up where this guy gets two swords and scissors the guy's head off my favorite part and i'm sitting there with popcorn it's about to happen i'm like and when it happened it's like i was confused i turned it off i went to my room i was i just i didn't know what to do i just started reading my bible it's the first time i come across romans chapter 1 verses 29-32 and it starts giving this list of everything we would amen right now that this is wrong that's right that's wrong that's right amen witchcraft sorcery hatred sexual sins that's right it's not right it's not amen amen and the last verse says this that all those sins are worthy of death and not only they that do that but they that take pleasure in them that do it and god says you are entertained by what displeases me and i finally i couldn't figure out why it bothered me until then it dawned on me that the reason why it bothered me then is because i've been on a diet for an extended period of time where i got disconnected from that world and purged myself of it so i was a wrestler in high school and they were very particular about your diet the first thing don't don't drink you know pop and and then i didn't lose weight but i just i was like that's stupid so i drank pop anyways i remember my first wrestling match i cramped all over and i was in writhing in pain i learned my lesson and i stopped taking that in my diet and i performed differently when i changed my diet and i was desensitized and i did not realize it until i got re-introduced into my body when i remember the first time i drank pop after being abstained from pop for four years it was overwhelming and it just like that show i watched over and over again when i cut that off and separated from it and i went back to it when it re-entered into my eyes all of a sudden i realized this is not appropriate to watch see if we keep watching the same thing and we say well i'm not convicted about watching this or i'm not convicted about watching you do not have to be convicted about something for it to be wrong there's people that don't think abortion's wrong there's people that don't think homosexuality is wrong there's people that have no problem with the way they speak and what they say about people lack of conviction is not god's divine permission for you to allow that intake in your life i've been going we okay it's 9 15. i think i've been going almost 15 minutes can i get 10 more minutes i just i promise you i and some some people misinterpret me because they think i'm some self-righteous pharisee holier than thou i never think i'm holier than now i know that i'm weaker than now i remember remember the day my wife walked in on me watching pornography look i don't want to fall again new in our marriage new in the work of god you think see i remember see when i fell into pornography as as a kid i didn't continue pornography i tried to go live it out and so when i got in the church all of a sudden i know i'm not supposed to be in sexual relationships so now i got all this temptation well the answer is it's better to marry to burn so i'll get married he'll fix everything no if you do not deal with the issue it doesn't go away my wife and i we made a a covenant not to have look i didn't know about upc wpf aljc any degree any organization i didn't know anything about rules restrictions guidelines i don't know i'm just trying to live the best i can for god i didn't read no manual but god dealt with me and we decided we're not going to have a tv we're not going to have netflix we're not going to have new hulu i'm not telling i'm not your pastor i'm telling you insight to my life is that fair don't get all weird with me but that's just what we did and we lived that way and also i realized after a while being around this now long enough that we were kind of weird you're like what's wrong with you so my wife and i kind of felt like man maybe maybe we are a little weird so we just wanted to relax so went to the library got andy griffith show and her laptop i'm kent whistle apostolic approved andy griffin you know barney one bullet gomer tree andrew i'll never forget sitting on that couch after a long day on a sunday that's what my wife and i we would do after church was over after the night would come we'd sit and we want to just laugh because church works hard digging out of work when you're trying to drill through iron is hard so i'm sitting next to my wife and we're watching this episode it's called the manicurist there's annie griffith show it's about this beautiful bombshell woman comes off the bus she comes to the mayberry and everybody's gawking over she's beautiful i mean she looks apostate she's got you know she's wearing a long dress you don't see no g-string you don't see no cleavage she's you know appropriate modest and so we're just watching black and white we're laughing the whole town's just gawking over this woman the show comes to a close and the woman leaves mayberry and as she's leaving all the men basically lean over and they watch her walk the camera pans into her backside bouncing left and right and i'm sitting next to my wife as a pastor as a district official youth president after a church service in my own home next to my wife and i'm lusting after a woman and the old man comes back there's this battle going on see this may not make sense to you if you're you've never been an addict before but if you ever smoke marijuana you drink alcohol when you're walking out on the streets you'll never forget that smell when it comes something awakens in you at times and all of a sudden this urge of temptation comes back and i'm feeling absolutely condemned sitting next to my wife so i work up the courage because i don't i don't want to fall again and i go babe we can't watch this anymore she goes why not i feel convicted i'm lusting after this woman she says i it's crazy i feel convicted too i was like you're lusting after her too and she says no we're working in jail ministry and we're working with addicts and alcohol is a stronghold where we live and i keep laughing about a man in this show going in and out of jail struggling with addiction and i'm laughing at it god spoke to us two different ways and i know this sounds absolutely stupid to you and i'm not saying if you watch andy griffith's show that you're going to hell in a handbasket but what i'm saying is you need to understand it doesn't have to be porn to be porn and it doesn't have to be some high level of extreme for it to have an effect on you and we can justify so many things because we're so used to just streaming so many things and i got something came over my wife and i and we determine i don't care what anyone else says about us our marriage is more important and i you got to picture my family you want to put my family back up there my family means everything to me i i can't control what they're going to see outside of our home but my wife and i are the gatekeeper of our home and i am determined by the grace of god that god forbid they ever see pornography but i will not let them see it in my home god i'm not gonna let traffic just flippantly come into my home i know you think you can handle it and you've handled it so well for so long but i want you know as it was in the days of noah in the days of noah he was doing okay but something happened after the ark experience and after the baptism and when he got off that ark and tried to do the work of a vineyard things started happening a little faster and all of a sudden fermentation happened a lot more aggressively he did not intend to get intoxicated he did not intend to be exposed to his children i'm telling you the atmosphere today is not the same atmosphere that you were in a decade ago or 30 years ago things are progressing at an ever accelerating rate there's nothing wrong with a vineyard but you gotta know it's a different atmosphere that you are in god forbid your child walks in on you would you lift your voice would you lift your voice would you lift your voice you got a picture of that that that devastated scene i'm gonna i'm gonna come to a close as fast i can this picture's a scene after hurricane michael i can't remember his 2018 what year it happened on the gulf coast but after the storm passed and they begin to survey the destruction this picture came to surface for it caught the attention of those going along the coastline it was this home standing while everything around it was destroyed they had to find out curiosity provoked him whose home is this they found the man and it was a retired doctor it was a new home that just got finished being built for his retirement vacation home they began to interview him about it and what made that home stand while others did not and he said when he was going to retire he wanted a vacation home and so he began to look for property along the coast he found a piece of property then he had to read the building code to have a home there and it had all the building code it had the footings had to be so deep the roof had to have a certain pitch so on and so forth certain materials to be used because hurricanes storms would come across that coast and so he read all the requirements he says okay if i do all this i could have a home these are all the minimum requirements he says no i'm going to go a little further i'm going to dig 40-foot pilings in my home in fact i'm going to go a little further and get a very particular screw that can hold things together tighter and better in fact i'm not going to go by their pitch i'm going to i'm going to design the roof even better in fact i'm going to design such a way where there is no gap i'm gonna i'm gonna tighten things up in this home so no contrary wind can make its way into the home and tear the roof off i thank god for your new birth experience and everything i taught here nothing says you got to pray an hour nothing says you have to read your bible every day nothing says you have to be at church for every revival service this week nothing says you can't watch andy griffith show i think it's possible you could even get to heaven not with sin in your life you can make it through life and i hope you do i pray you do but hear me in the holy ghost you think the past two years was intense there's a storm coming there's a storm on the horizon the likes of which you have never seen spiritually and you may have gotten by for five minutes of prayer ten minutes of prayer church attendance here and there but what's going to happen when that hurricane hits your home five minute prayer is not 40-foot pilings sometimes you gotta see they interview that doctor he says you know what i don't i'm not just building this for me i'm building it for my children and i'm building it for their future you got to realize your consecration and your conviction is not just about you and go ahead and try living in moderation and watch the next generation live in excess this is why there's got to be a father and a mother who don't just meet the minimum requirements of being a church member here at fac by going only so many services and paying at least this much money something's got to get a hold of the spirit of this church now i know a storm is on the horizon and i don't care what anyone else says i'm not doing this for them i'm doing it for me and my house and this is how i'm going to serve the lord come on children we're coming deeper come on wife we're going deeper come on guys we're going to get in this all in i'm all in i'm all in let's stand to our feet you're wondering why your daughter's struggling with her image the eye affects her heart well there's nothing wrong with this program okay but what's influencing her image why is she wanting to be all done up like that now i know there's no nudity in that program i know there's no cussing in that program but why is your child all of a sudden turning on you well just you know that's what teenagers do no i i refuse i will not let people speak death into our home and say well you just wait till your teenage years no i believe the teenage years are going to be the best years in our home if we train them right now and we do it with the right spirit and we lead by example i believe the teenage years are going to be the best years don't you dare speak death over our home i'm doing everything i can to let there be life in our home and love in our home and you can have it the same way you can have it the same way and i know you might think it's some negative nancy debbie downer sermon because i'm no no you can't do this you can't do that you're missing the spirit of what i'm trying to tell you here's the deal the same way it works in the negative it works in the positive jesus said if your eye be single if your eye have pure things go in the whole body will be full of light so i change my diet i stop listening to secular music and i just listen to christian music i'm not attacking you if you listen to country but i want you to i want you to take some inventory of your diet you're struggling with certain sexual temptations but you're listening to about love relationships constantly in your ear and it's you don't understand it might get your head bobbing but something your guards being let down and as spirits being impact so if you start changing your diet and all of a sudden i start listening to godly music in the home and also i find myself i didn't even intend to worship god but i stop and i feel something and i lift my hands in the middle of my home while i'm driving on the highway and i start worshiping god in tears it just never happened when i was listening to other stuff but something shifted inside of me and now god is a part of my diet not just in the morning but throughout the day and instead of watching the entertainment of this world i start listening faith comes by hearing faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word oh i started watching some godly things called preaching i turn on some because of the times i start tuning into things that would edify me you've got to change your diet you got to shift something and i promise you your eye will affect your heart and your heart will go after your eye you'll want to be a preacher you'll want to be a worship leader you'll want to be a sunday school teacher it's going to change everything the bible says i would that men pray everywhere lifting up holy hands and the reason why so many hands are not lifted by men in this room is because there's condemnation on you there's wrath and doubting on you there's shame on you i'm not attacking you i i'm just simply hoping my testimony might help you and i come against the lie of hell that because you watched pornography because you fell into self-gratification that god cannot forgive you that you can never come out of it and you'll never be involved with ministry i stand up here as a preacher of the gospel that messed up as a preacher in the gospel and i'm telling you right now god will forgive you god will liberate you god will redeem you god will restore you the bible says the gifts and callings of god are without repentance and you can have deliverance here today i'm not holier than now i'm weaker than now but in my weakness his strength has been made perfect i decided i'm going to be honest with myself and i'm going to be honest before my god and say god whatever you can change in me i'll change i will change because i don't want to fall again i want if your family's here i want you to come to this altar with your family we need some keepers of the home god wants revival in your home god wants to revive woman of god listen to me hear me very clearly right now i know you're disappointed because you know your husband has looked at porn don't make the mistake that noah's boys made they walked in on their father and they tried to expose his failure to others but thank god for some sons that had mercy and grace didn't even look and cover their father your husband needs your covering right now you're not sweeping it under the rug men and it's not just men as women i can't tell you how many people i've talked to on a frequent basis about the addiction and struggle of pornography across this country i'm talking about district officials i'm talking about pastors i decided god's grace has been too rich and abundant for me to be stingy and hide it and not share it god can do it for you but you will not do it alone you have to become accountable and you have to do the hardest thing you've ever done let's talk to you be accountable to your spouse but to be accountable to your spiritual authority and the lie of hell will try to tell you that your spiritual authority will shame you condemn you and rebuke you and kick you out of here no he'll redeem you he'll cover you just like noah's boy did covered him in grace and mercy there's grace in this room there's liberty in this room there's healing in this room and everyone that's in this room and this altar right now it's not that everyone at this altar is struggling porn some of you are struggling in your prayer life some of you are struggling in your bible reading life some of you are a little iffy on church i think all of us if we're honest with ourselves we've got room for improvement i think all of us have some room for improvement somewhere i wonder right now if you can lift up your hands and say god i don't want to fall again and lord if it takes me praying a little more i'm going to pray a little more if it takes me reading the bible a little more i'm going to read the bible a little more if it takes me going to church a little more i'm going to church a little more and god if it takes me stripping every visual image out of my home i'm going to do it god lord i'll rip that tv out i'll cut out hulu how cut out netflix i'll turn off youtube i'll do anything because i am radically desperate to maintain the integrity and purity of my home and the generations to come i don't care what any organization says i don't care what anyone else is doing as for me in my house as for me in my house we will serve the lord come on lift up your hands without wrath lift up your hands without doubting right now come on don't let there be a question don't let there be a doubt in your spirit reach up out of desperation and reach up and surrender keep yes come on church we need some intercessors to lift their voice right now come on chains are coming off as your voice is being lifted up there are people right now on the verge of a breakthrough god did it for you now pray for someone else pray in the spirit and let there be a liberty released in this house beta foreign this church is going to make you through the storm come on this church is going to make it through the storm come on we're determined we're going to make it through the storm we're going to make it through it in the name of jesus the wave that's coming against the church we're going to make it we're going deeper the pilings are going deeper the foundation is going to be stronger we're going to be pillars in our home there's going to be pillars in our home ah um parents i want you to be encouraged i know there's a lot of conviction that's in this room right now when you are guilty yourself i'm talking to people this room you know and you found out that your child has been exposed to pornography this is not the end this is serious but this is not the final destination it will only get worse if you change nothing did you hear me it will only get worse if you justify everything don't justify just obey you're not called to be your kid's friend right now you need to be the spiritual leader in that home they're gonna kick they're gonna scream look i'm a parent too i know the ease in which i can hand this device over to my kid to shut them up and abdigate my responsibility as a parent and leave it into the hands of a device that's working on the devices of another spirit you need to take personal responsibility your kid wants you they want you and this is easier to do but i promise you down the road it won't be i frequently deal with people kids exposed to pornography seven eight nine years old i could tell you some horrific stories my wife was exposed to pornography before this as a child going into the home of someone else i'm talking 20 30 years ago 30 years ago it ain't getting better we're very intentional about what home our kids go into i have conversations with our neighbors and they've never took offense to us because we're very honest i go look uh my kids can't come in your house i don't know you we'll get to know you will develop a relationship and finally when that relationship gets to a point of some level of trust because the kids always oh come on over i tell the parent i go hey i don't want a device on in your home i don't want any video games on in your home i don't want any tv on your home i don't condemn anything you're doing but i'm just trying to raise my kid this way because i at their age was exposed to pornography and if if you can't do that in your home by my kids there i completely understand it's your house but my kid will not be in your home during that time and they've never flipped out on me i'm just very honest because i'm trying to protect my kid and we don't intentionally try to set them up for failure because we lived in a different atmosphere but this atmosphere is aggressive and children are being exposed unintentionally your kid's not trying to seek out pornography 90 plus percent that are exposed it was an accident but then it becomes an addiction you need to love your kid and you need to operate in grace and you need to be more intentional and from the sounds of it your youth pastor here has written a book about some things it sounds like i haven't read it but it sounds like he's every parent should probably read it i haven't read it but it sounds as if it's a pretty good tool i love you my flesh wanted to preach something else to you today this wasn't easy for me to do but because i love you and because i love god i did the best i could to obey and convey the spirit that god has towards this church i love you and if you love god and you love your pastor would you clap your hands would you one more time would you just one more time just lift your hands but you this man has walked by many gatherings they have perceived that he is a man of god but you are a different flock for the shooter my woman not only entertained the man of god but the shooter might woman remodeled her house to build a room for the man of god i know you my people tonight you are going to alter your lives you are going to build a room in your house because that storm will come and that child will die and it is only because you have that room that there will be a resurrection thus saith the lord come on receive it right now receive it receive it right now receive it
