Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The pattern of the world's greatest dad
- Job was a perfect and upright man, one that feared God and eschewed evil; the preacher set him before the fathers as the pattern of the world's greatest dad.
- Job sanctified his sons and daughters continually and rose early to offer burnt offerings for them, lest any of them had sinned against God in their hearts.
- A great father is first a sacrificer: he does not only tell his children about God — he shows them, having been baptized in Jesus' name, filled with the Holy Ghost, and faithful in the house of God himself.
Scriptures: Job 1:1-5
Sacrifice when everything is attacked
- Satan's charge was that Job feared God only for what God had given him; when the hedge was lifted, Job lost his oxen, sheep, camels, servants and all his children in a single day.
- His wife urged him to curse God and die; Job answered, What, shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? — and in all this Job did not sin with his lips.
- His three friends came, sat with him seven days and seven nights in silence, and then spent their words discouraging him; a man can need better than such friends.
- Job arose, rent his mantle, shaved his head and worshipped, saying, The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord — and he did not charge God foolishly.
Scriptures: Job 2:9-10; Job 2:11-13; Job 1:20-22
The sacrifices God requires of fathers now
- By Christ, fathers are to offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually — the fruit of lips giving thanks to His name — and to lead their families in praise rather than leave it to their wives.
- To do good and to communicate, forget not, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased: marriages, families and churches stand or fall on godly communication, which listens as well as speaks.
- Evil communications corrupt good manners; a father is to build a vocabulary of godly speech, knowing that little children in the car mimic every word they hear.
Scriptures: Hebrews 13:15-16; 1 Corinthians 11 (chapter, as spoken); 1 Corinthians 15:33
Maintain your ways to a better latter end
- Though God should slay him, Job resolved, yet will I trust in Him, and to maintain his own ways before Him — the sacrifices he made when he had everything, he kept making when he had nothing.
- God's word to Job was to gird up his loins like a man; fathers are summoned to end the pity party, stand up, and remain sacrificers whatever they have been through.
- Job's friends were sent to offer burnt offerings for themselves and to be prayed for by Job, and the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning — fourteen thousand sheep, and sons and daughters again.
- Since Adam's fall, a father's provision comes by the sweat of his face among thorns and thistles; the fathers were given handkerchiefs as a token of that sweat and prayed over as the sacrificers and leaders of their families.

well it is father's day and i think i believe the lord has given me a message for our fathers we honor you all today and as pastor whitley's already informed you we have a gift for all of our fathers and those aspiring to fatherhood and we'll also be having a drawing for some special things that we'll be talking about a little bit later so none of you fathers need to leave today until all of that is complete but i want to preach about the world's greatest dad today so if you would turn with me to the book of job the first chapter the book of job the first chapter we'll begin reading at verse number one the book of job 1 1 there was a man in the land of us whose name was job and that man was perfect and upright and one that feared god and shoot he eschewed evil and there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters that definitely qualifies you as being a dad all right his substance was seven thousand sheep three thousand camels 500 yoke of oxen and 500 shias's and a very great household so that this man was noticed the greatest of all men of the east and his sons went and feasted in their houses and every one his day and he sit and call for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them and it was so when the days of their feasting were gone about that job please notice this job sent and sanctified them his children and he rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all for job said it may be that my sons have sinned and cursed god in their hearts thus did job continually thus did job do what sacrificed continually so today i would speak to you on this subject the world's greatest dad blessed to sacrifice let's pray sager i love you god thank you for this throng of individuals who've joined us today especially all the fathers that are in this house and who are under the sound of my voice pray that your word would minister to us and reestablish the importance of a father's role in the christian life we honor your presence and we thank you for your word this day in jesus name we pray amen on this father's day 2022 i am confident that we have a house full of the greatest deads in the world signs have already been made for some of you in the most beautiful crayon handwriting that's proclaiming you the greatest dad in the world others have already secured coffee cups that say number one dad the greatest father still others have had gifts purchased that have some type of signage that says greatest dad and some of you just by being here today signify that you and your children are one in being in the house of god please know there is a difference in fathering a child and being a father it's important to have real dads today and not just someone who biologically fathered a child i am truly thankful that there is an army of great fathers here at first apostolic church who are spiritual leaders who are spiritual guides to their children and they lead their family as scripture would tell us to do in the ways of the lord who are jesus name apostolic holiness men who are not ashamed to stand up and be leaders in their families i'm thankful for that but today i would like to remind us of one of the greatest fathers ever and he's found in the scripture and in the text that i read in your hearing i want to revisit for a few moments the attributes the fatherly attributes if you will of job first it said that he was a he was perfect and upright that's a pretty good dad one that's perfect and up right now we know that there is none perfect but one and that was christ but i want you know in my eyes my dad's perfect i'm thankful for a father who is perfect in my eyes i time would not permit me to tell you all of the things that i'm thankful for that my father taught me and brought me up and led me and was an example to me he has been a father to this church and dad i honor you today i'm thankful for having a perfect and upright father this is what job's qualities included and the bible then said he feared god and issued evil we'll do a little vocabulary today you can put this in your vocabulary of learning that term issued defined means deliberately avoided using or abstained from job was careful to avoid evil he didn't want to do anything that appeared to be evil job eschewed evil as scripture said he feared god he was a god-fearing man that didn't mean he walked around scared of god but he had a reverential respect of god his precepts the things that god had laid his life out to follow job feared god and issued evil and he had a big family seven sons and three daughters that's a big family and apparently he was a successful businessman he was well burst in livestock for scripture said he had 7 000 sheep 3 000 camels you know if we tried to relate job to today's vocation if you had 3 000 camels that would be like owning a car lot and you've got 3 000 cars that was their transportation so maybe he was in transportation as well who knows i could at least imagine so because camels weren't used for anything but for transportation so he was a successful businessman he also had 500 yoke of oxen if that was nowadays maybe he owned a john deere dealership who knows oxen were used for plowing and so he he was in all kind of uh of uh sales and and commodities of animals and he had uh 500 she asses that was that was part of bearing burdens and bearing loads so who knows maybe he had a company that sold animals to bear burdens the bottom line is we can imagine but the truth is he was successful he was a successful father it said he had a great house because of the wealth that he accumulated he apparently had a a big home place a nice place that his family could come to and they could gather together they could have their family gets to get togethers and he had a a great house the bible says you know nothing like going home to the home place and and the brothers and sisters gathering together job was a good dad the bible said he was the greatest man of those in the east he's a great dad but with all the characteristics i've named so far i haven't named his greatest characteristic yet as a father for it said in job 1 and 5 he sanctified his children and he offered sacrifices for them and the bible said he did this continually that term sanctify means to set apart as or declare holy to consecrate let me tell you fathers in this house it matters not how successful you've been in business it doesn't matter how large a house you've made it doesn't matter all those other things the most wonderful trait that you can have as a father in this house today is to be someone who consecrates your children to god and you sacrifice for them unto god [Applause] now let me interpret just a little bit great fathers know how to sanctify now that didn't mean he made his kids do right it meant he committed to sanctifying his kids and he sacrificed for them the bible said continually when i was naming all of those commodities that he was successful in in livestock i named camels i named she assess i named oxen but i purposely left out the first commodity that he had the most of he had 4 000 excuse me 7 000 sheep you know why sheep's what you sacrificed back then more than anything else job had determined i'm going to be a sacrificer for my kids and for my family he said i don't know what's even in my son's hearts he said they could have committed trespass against god in their heart so just in case i'm going to sacrifice for every one of my kids oh give me some dads on this father's day that know how to sanctify their kids by keeping them in the house of god by keeping them committed to god that they're going to sacrifice whatever it takes for their children to be dedicated to god that's a real greatest father it is so beautiful to see sons and daughters who've been sanctified by their fathers i'm thankful for fathers who sacrificed their resources to provide for their children i honor the fathers in this house today who give their time to interact to provide for their children listen dad there's some trips that you can lay aside to spend some more time with your son or daughter to go fishing and go on a day's journey with them there's some things in your business that you can set aside to give some time to your kids and make sure that they have a relationship with you but most importantly that they have a relationship with god don't take them to everything else but not take them to the house of god be an example for them that you're a believer be the example that you don't send them to church you don't send them to camp meetings you don't send them to conference but you take them to those events you don't tell them that you need to be baptized in the name of jesus you show them that you have already been baptized in the name of jesus you tell them no you need the holy ghost say no i've got the holy ghost and i want you to have it i love the fathers who show their children how to love their mama and how to honor their mother one of the greatest gifts you can give to your sons and your daughters fathers is to love their mother and show them what a true relationship between a loving husband and wife should be you see sacrifice is important to god sacrifice was essential unto god please be reminded job is not living right now in the dispensation of grace he's living in the dispensation of sacrifice grace has not come yet so job to make sure his children are sanctified is sacrificing continually for them he is a sanctified sacrificer now if you'll recall when god was trying abraham to the point that abraham had to be willing to offer isaac his son a sacrifice when he got to the point that god knew there was no doubt in his commitment when he raised the knife to make isaac the sacrifice god stayed his hand but he said now i know he said now i know dad's in the house god needs to know that you're willing to sacrifice all to keep your children in the house of god your need you're willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to keep your family in the house of god and in the service of god to keep them sanctified your willingness to sacrifice to god lets god know your true commitment to him so i've painted a picture of a real successful dad that god has been and is blessing and just as blessed as job was satan was just as miserable because of job's success never mistake when you sacrifice to god the enemy does not like it and the enemy will fight you satan approaches god and says is there a perfect man god says have you considered my servant job and in their conversation i'm paraphrasing and you can read it all for yourself in the book of job satan says well he's not serving you for not he's not serving you for no reason it's because you've built a hedge around him you built a hedge of success you built a hedge of blessings you've been built a hedge of plenty you've built a hedge of a big family and if you'll read that carefully you'll notice god never denied that god didn't deny that there was a hedge around job let me tell you if you'll be a sacrificer and a sanctifier of your kids god can put a hedge around you but in this particular specific incident god brought job up because god knew what kind of man he was and he said satan all right we're going to drop some hedges he said you can attack his substance you can attack his health you can attack his family he said the one thing you can't do you can't attack his flesh you can't take his life let me tell you this because if anybody came today expecting to hear a miracle that if you serve god everything's going to be perfect you're going to be disappointed scripture tells us it reigns on the just and the unjust scripture tells us that time and chance happeneth to them all there's going to be trials there's going to be tests there's going to be times that god will drop a hedge and the enemy will attack you even though you've been sacrificing don't take that as an attack from god take that as thank you god that i'm worthy i'm worthy because i'm a sacrificer i hadn't done something wrong maybe it's i've just been doing a bunch of stuff right and the enemy can't stand my sacrifice somebody hear me today you see satan could do nothing to job that god wouldn't allow and satan hates sacrificers let me give you a bit of evidence when calamity began to strike job you could read it for yourself again in the first couple of chapters of that book you find that they stole his camels they stole his used camel business if you will his dealership of new camels was gone they were stolen they stole his oxen his agriculture moving livestock they stole his burden-bearing life but they didn't steal his sheep his sheep were burned up and destroyed now think about it i hope i don't feel hope you don't feel like i'm reaching too far the enemy does not care to just steal your substance but he wants to destroy your ability to sacrifice hear me in this house today he may try to attack and steal away some of those things of the earth but he does not want you to sacrifice if he can burn up your sacrifice and destroy it that's what he'll do and then notice how it progressed satan couldn't take his life god had not removed that hedge this may very well be why even in the loss of his children who he had sanctified the one individual that was still his blood his wife satan didn't take her either why i submit to you they were one flesh and satan knows the value of marriage and one flesh satan didn't take her either now the one thing you did find is his one flesh his wife the one most dear to him [Music] encouraged him to give up now that's an oxymoron she encouraged him to give up job 2 9 it said then said his wife unto him dost thou still retain thy integrity curse god and die now in human understanding she was not being a bitty or a grouch she was not nagging him contrary to what some would say but she was thinking in the natural rather than the spiritual she was so sad about seeing her husband suffer so much she was trying to be kind to him and be merciful to him husband you shouldn't be going through this i know what you were i know now if you've got a different interpretation when you preach about job you can give it okay but i'm telling you today it is my contention that his wife had a merciful attitude she had seen her husband her one flesh suffered so much at loss and destruction and and all of the things he'd gone through now his health has been attacked he has boils all over him he's sitting scraping his skin with pieces of pottery trying to find relief she said honey i can't stand to see you in this condition why don't you just curse god and die but he said to her thou speakers is one of the foolish women speaketh the food that said in his heart there is no god he said you're not considering god in this you're speaking in fleshly thinking you're you're thinking like flesh thinks he said what shall we receive good at the hand of god and shall we not receive evil in all this did not job sin with his lips job said honey you're thinking in the flesh you're thinking foolishly without god in the mix he said look at all the blessings we had if we were going to receive those blessings now we've got to receive what's coming to us and he didn't fly off the handle and in a moment of discouragement and disappointment starts saying sinful things with his mouth some of us could learn greatly from that disappointment's going to come in life dad there's going to be situations you're not going to get that job that you thought you were going to get you're not going to get that raise you're not going to get some things that you've been hoping to get for to provide better for your family don't turn around and start cursing god don't turn around and start sinning with your mouth and saying well if god was in this i'd have done this and i'd have got that sometimes it's not in god's will and you need to say i'm going to take the good with the bad but i'm not going to stop being a sacrificer i'm not going to stop sanctifying things man it's tough when you feel that you're one flesh your help made your wife has given up on you that's the feeling of ultimate failure look i know every message that i preach is not a 10 and a home run and i appreciate all you folks enduring it when it's not real great but the ultimate disappointment would be if my wife said boy that was a rotten message you preached that'd be hard to take i want you to know baby just remember that and if it wasn't bad enough that he felt that his wife no longer had faith in him job had friends job had friends oh i can depend on my friends now we're talking about the greatest dad in the world so notice what happened in job 2 11. his friend showed up now when job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him this is job 2 11. they came everyone from his own place alphas the temenite bildad the shoe height and so far the neat mouthful for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him they made an appointment to have a pity party and when they lifted up their eyes afar off they knew him not job was now in such a degraded state he wasn't that great man that they had visited as a friend now he wasn't that great dad that they had had so many communications with he wasn't that great businessman that said oh have i shown you the newest camel that's on the lot now he's sitting in ashes sprinkling dirt on his head his garment rent scraping the boils so they didn't hardly recognize their friend now still the greatest dead and when they lifted their eyes far off they knew him not they lifted up their voice and wept and they ran everyone his own mantle and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven and they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights and none spake a word unto him for they saw that his grief was very great have you ever been in a situation trying to comfort anybody and you just feel like there's nothing i can say so his three friends showed up and for seven days they just sit around in the dirt having a pity party and i certainly will not review for you the 30-plus verses of dialogue when they finally started because if you read the book of job and you read some of the dialogue between them they're some of the most discouraging conversations you could ever have man with friends like that who needs enemies i mean they're telling him how bad it is they're telling him how terrible it is they're trying to figure out why he's going through all this stuff they're telling well you must have done this wrong you could have done that wrong as great as god is and now the book of job i'm going to tell you if you want to be lifted up probably in the first place you ought to start unless you read the whole thing you see we return to our original premise the wife says die the friends have no answers and all the time satan has wanted to destroy a sanctified sacrificer gentlemen in the house who are fathers and aspiring fathers let me tell you above everything else satan does not want you to sacrifice i'll give you a few examples in scripture hebrews 13 15 says by him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise unto god continually that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to him god wants to hear thanks and satan despises it when you thank god god desires your praise he wants to sacrifice it's a sacrifice to praise even in our culture think about it in the american culture men are encouraged to be emotional in almost everything except praising god i mean if your team is winning you're supposed to go nuts and be crazy but denominationalism has propagated the ideology that if you go into the house of god you're supposed to sit quiet and ornate that you're supposed to give this reverential respect and i believe in respecting god but there's a difference in respect and being dead first corinthians the 11th chapter for it talked anything about women it said i would that men everywhere would lift up holy hands without fear doubt sir you need to be the leader in praise in your family it's not your wife's job to be the praise leader sir it's your job it's your job to be the first leader and show the first fruits the sacrifice of praise i'm worried about what somebody's going to think about me they may think i'm going to lose my man card i don't care be appraiser be a worshiper real men aren't worried about whether they eat teach real men praise god real men know how to clap their hands lift their hands shout dance and give praise unto god i realize this is not politically correct but that's okay i'm not politically concerned today i want to know what scripture tells me to do he said by him therefore let us offer the sacrifices of praise to god continually it needs to be all the time i've lived we're easily led to praise god give it praise from our lips you know what verse 16 said but to do good and to communicate forget not for with such sacrifices god is well pleased you want to please god do good and learn to communicate how does god keep our marriages strong we communicate with each other how does the enemy attack marriages i ain't going to say nothing silent treatment relationships between fathers and sons mothers and daughters family members if the enemy can shut up your communication lines that don't mean let me pause here can i give everybody a little more free advice since it's father's day communications is not running your yap all the time sometimes you need to close your mouth and listen to communicate you may be seated everybody settle down goodness gracious communications is a nothing is not a one-way street communication is being able to talk and to listen and to with love and care about those you communicate with express what needs to happen without anger to do good man you can roll out of bed and be bad but it's a sacrifice to do good you can roll out of bed and not communicate but it's a sacrifice to listen sometimes i don't want any hands or amens but any of you brothers in the house besides me ever hurt you're not listening from your own flesh you didn't hear what i said you weren't listening all right and in your mind you're going oh god she's right again i know what tony basilio said but what did my wife say i know what sports talk was claiming what did my wife say the sacrifice of doing good and communicating forget not for with such sacrifices god is well pleased the enemy hates sacrifice the enemy sir does not want you to sacrifice first corinthians 5 or rather 15 33 says but be not deceived evil communications corrupt good manners develop a vocabulary void of four letter expletives cursing and slang man develop your vocabulary that you could communicate in a godly way in a good way this world needs to hear christians speak a different way they need to find out that we have a way of communicating we can get our thoughts across without come on man i know some of y'all saying my god this is father's day you're supposed to be elevated i promise you if you learn to communicate you can be more successful in this world i might as well say it now i've gone that far be careful what you say when you're driving and only your toddler's in the car they learn to mimic real quick they learn to use the same words that you do let me move quickly after all trials that job went through after dealing with a concerned wife who said curse god and die job 1 20 says then job arose he ran his mantle shaved his head fell down on the ground and worshipped sir i don't know what you may be going through today i don't know what you may have been facing but i'm here to tell you no matter the situation if you'll keep being a worshiper he had his perspective right to be a great father he said naked came i out of my mother's womb and naked shall i return thither the lord gave and the lord taketh away blessed be the name of the lord i'm blessed no matter my situation no matter what's going on whether i'm being successful i'm going to give a sacrifice of worship today [Applause] stand with me he said and it said in all this job sin not nor charged god foolishly don't start blaming god if god was really god he would have done this and he would have done that now's no time to charge god foolishly in fact over in job 13 in the midst of that downer advice from his friends job said though he slay me he said if he wants to take the last hedge down and kill me he said though he slayed me yet will i trust in him i will maintain my own ways before him don't let that slide by too quick what was his own ways what was the ways of job i read it in the first chapter he sacrificed daily he hadn't got seven thousand sheep now he has got camels he hasn't got all of his substance he had got his big fine house his kids are even dead but he said i will maintain my own ways before him i don't know what he did but i know that job found a way to sacrifice he sacrificed through his worship he he said i but i will maintain my own ways before him i'm not going to vary from what i am he said he also shall be my salvation please know that your salvation still lies in the lord it's no substance it's no man-made things our salvation still remains in the lord for a hypocrite shall not come before me him he said i'm not going to be a hypocrite now i sacrificed everything was good i'm going to sacrifice in these difficult times i will not be a hypocrite so i take us home with this as job trials we're about to obey had conversation with god now many of us would expect god now to pat him on the back and say okay joby now i know buddy everything's good you know that's not even the way god approached him when he was on the other side of his trials here's what god said gerda this is job 40 and 7. he said gird up thy loins now like a man we need some fathers that still stand up like a man don't matter what you've been through don't matter what troubles you've had in the past be a man gird up thy loins now like a man i will demand of thee and declare thou unto me i'm looking for some men to stand up and be holy fathers who are still sacrificers you may have experienced disappointment you may have face loss and trials but let me encourage you to end your pity party today i don't know what you've been through stand up today say i'm going to be a sacrificer declare yourself a man i'd like to do something i'd like for every father in the house and married men who aspire to be fathers i'd like for you to be a leader day i'd like for you to step out if you wouldn't come and stand down front here [Music] all the father's in the house hallelujah [Music] if you if you read on through to the end of job and i'll paraphrase rather than reading it all to you god eventually got in touch with job's three friends and said here's what i want y'all to do now y'all giving us enough discouragement he said i want all of you guys [Music] to offer burnt sacrifice unto job and he said if you do that unto job i will accept it unto me now now stay with me just a moment law he said offer up for yourselves i burn offering and my servant job shall pray for you for him will i accept lest i deal with you after your folly and that you have not spoken to me the things which is right like my certain joke he said the whole time y'all were discouraging you should have been giving him encouragement so elphaz bill dad and so far they made sacrifice and god accepted it on job's behalf and they begin to begin to give up their substance bread and stop lamenting over him and begin providing for him and this is what scripture says so the lord blessed the latter end of job more than his beginning for he had 14 000 sheep you think he was a sacrificer before now he's got twice as much to sacrifice with sir if you'll stay faithful as a father if you'll give them just what you've got you can't give of what you don't have just give of what god has blessed you with if you go through a trial don't give up give of what you've got because there's a double portion blessing coming it itemizes and finally it said and after this lived job 140 years and saw his sons and his son's sons even for generations so job died being old and full of days [Music] on mother's day [Music] we talked about a mother's tears and a mother's prayers and we gave out handkerchiefs to the mothers today i would remind all you fathers that are here [Music] that if you go back to genesis [Music] when adam and eve conspired and eve was deceived and then adam was convinced of eve to take of the truth the knowledge of good and evil when god began to set forth the limitations he said that woman now and saw her sorrow would greatly be multiplied in childbirth but the responsibility of man fathers to be if you will would be that now when they provided for their family by the fruits of the ground there would be thorns and thistles and scripture said that by the sweat of your face [Music] by the sweat of your face you would toil until you returned to the ground now that's i'm paraphrasing what genesis said genesis 3 you can read it for yourself fathers who are and have been and continually plan to provide for your families because of adam's sin some of y'all work out in the hot and you sweat a lot [Music] you sacrifice long hours working to provide for your families there's times i know you'd like to be home with your wife and you'd like to be home with your kids and you like to be doing stuff but you're you're working you're sacrificing and there's even times that the enemy will tell you uh we don't have to go to church this weekend let's sit home and have a staycation let me tell you if you keep being a sacrificer yeah you're gonna sweat some by the sweat of your brow you're going to work all the days of your life but if you'll be a sacrificer you're going to raise up another generation of young men and young women that are going to be great in god's kingdom we've chosen handkerchiefs to remind you of the sacrifice of the sweat of your brow and this is just a small token little gift all you fathers that are up here i want you to come and get one handkerchief right now pick out the one you want there's all kind of colors now we're not at macy's so you don't get to shop long [Music] just get one i want everybody else to stay with me because we're going to pray here in just a minute [Music] hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah glory glory glory hallelujah hallelujah [Music] there's an old saying about a lot of men carry two hankies one for showing and one for blowing you heard that i want you to unfold that handkerchief right now brothers and then i want you to lift it up would you do that for me [Music] i want you to see this as a reminder that i'm going to be a sacrificer i may have to do a lot of sweating both
