Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
No trouble for the Master
- He reads Mark 5 from verse 21: Jerus, one of the rulers of the synagogue, fell at Jesus' feet and besought him greatly — 'My little daughter lieth at the point of death. I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live.'
- A master is one having chief authority, the ultimate accomplishment of a trade — and Jerus, a man of status with access to any doctor or healer of that day, did not want a novice or a journeyman for his most prized possession; he wanted the Master.
- On the way the crowd thronged Jesus and the woman with the issue of blood was healed while Jerus waited — it can seem, when your problem is most urgent to you, as though Jesus is working in somebody else's life instead of yours.
- Then the messengers came from the ruler's house: 'Thy daughter is dead. Why troublest thou the Master any further?' Do not have a doubt-filled message and do not decide beforehand that Jesus cannot fix it — there is no problem too big for the Master, as the well-worn story of the man who talked himself out of borrowing a jack shows.
Scriptures: Mark 5:21-24; Mark 5:35
Master of the wind, of commitment, and of example
- He reads from Mark 4: the ship full of waves, Jesus asleep on a pillow in the hinder part, and the disciples waking him — 'Master, carest thou not that we perish?' He arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, 'Peace, be still' — and they said one to another, 'What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?'
- Brother George Acres' line is sung in the house: 'I know the Master of the wind.'
- In Matthew 19 a young man came asking, 'Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?' — told to keep the commandments, he pressed further, and when Jesus said, 'Sell that thou hast and give to the poor, and come and follow me,' he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions: the Master has a commitment level for every one of us.
- Isaiah 64:6 said we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags — do not brag on your own holiness or become judgmental over other people's lives.
- He reads John 13: Jesus rose from supper, took a towel, and washed his disciples' feet; Peter first refused, then asked for hands and head also — and the Lord and Master who washed their feet gave an example that we ought to wash one another's feet: sometimes the towel belongs around our waist and not under our neck.

Be not afraid, only believe
- Back to the original text in Mark 5: as soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the ruler of the synagogue, 'Be not afraid, only believe' — if God is going to work in your life, you need to lose your fear and get your faith.
- The charge is quoted: stir up the gift of God which is in thee, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind; and Hebrews 11:6 said that without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- At the ruler's house Jesus found the tumult and them that wept and wailed greatly, and said, 'Why make ye this ado, and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth' — and he put the scornful out; the psalmist said, 'Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.'
- He took the damsel by the hand and said, 'Talitha cumi — Damsel, I say unto thee, arise,' and straightway the damsel arose and walked: the Master is the master of every situation, and he is not on our time schedule — Martha learned the same at her brother's grave, when she told Jesus that if he had been there, her brother had not died.
- To be like the Master we must strive for the mastery, as in 1 Corinthians 9: every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things; they run for a corruptible crown, but we for an incorruptible — so run, keep the body under subjection, and do not live on the highs and lows of emotion.
- For those who have obeyed the salvation message — repented of their sins, been baptized in water by immersion in the name of Jesus, and been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with tongues — there must follow the disciplines of moderation, self-control over desires, appetites, and emotions, walking daily close to him; he closes by opening the altar and praying for guidance and temperance for the week ahead.

I want to call your attention tonight to the book of Mark, the fifth chapter. Do not plan to preach a long time, but I do want to get into the word with just hopefully words of encouragement tonight. Mark 5, beginning at verse number 21. We'll read a few verses. Mark 5:21 says, "And when Jesus was passed over again by the ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him, and he was nigh unto the sea, and behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jerus by name. When he saw him, he fell at his feet, and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lith at the point of death. I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her that she may be healed, and she shall live." And Jesus went with him, and much people followed him, and thronged him. Verse 35. While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, "Thy daughter is dead. Why troublest thou the master any further?" For a few moments tonight, I'd speak to you on this subject. No trouble for the master. No trouble for the master. Let's pray. Savior, I love you. I thank you for your wonderful presence that we have experienced already. Lord, for the peaceful and wonderful spirit that we are enjoying, the freedom to worship, the freedom to praise. Lord, I thank you because you minister mightily to every individual in this room and you also minister to us collectively by an outpouring of your spirit. Now Lord, Lord, let your word reach down and encourage us tonight. Nothing I can say but strengthen us through your word that we may do a work for you. For all this, we're grateful and thankful. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Lord bless you. You can be seated. No trouble for the master. It is a great accomplishment in many many fields or vocations to be referred to as a master. In many trades such as electricians, barbers, carpenters, plumbers, etc., the ultimate accomplishment in rank is to be called a master. A master plumber. a master electrician. This signifies that you're not a beginner nor a novice. You're not an apprentice or a journeyman, but you are a master craftsman. In the field of education, it is a great accomplishment to earn a master's degree. In the world of athletics, in golf in particular, among most professional golfers, the ultimate tournament to win is a tournament held in Augusta, Georgia called the Mast's tournament. Means something special to be termed as a master. The term master defined as one having authority or control, having chief authority. To master means to overcome, to subdue, superior to all others in power, influence, and importance in our text. Is it any wonder that Jerus went seeking Jesus when his daughter became ill? Understand Jerus was a ruler of the synagogue. So he was well connected. He knew a lot of folks and he probably had access to any doctor he wanted, any so-called healer of that day because of his status. But when it came to his most prized of possessions, his daughter, he did not want a novice or a journeyman. He didn't even want a master. He wanted the master. >> Now the problem that Jerus would face in this story would be that the master was in great demand. When we read in verse 24 that Jerus fell at Jesus' feet and asked him to come to his house to heal his daughter, Jesus began going toward his house. Now, if you read the entire passage, if if you go back and start at Mark 51, you'll find a uh an event that had happened before this. Jesus had healed the demonic that was among the tombs. And Jesus had now come to where Jerus found him by the sea. And Jerus implored him, "Come and pray for my daughter." And Jesus started moving that way. The the Bible says that the crowd thronged him. In other words, he was just surrounded by the crowd. In fact, you will find between verse 24 and verse 35 another story in scripture. And that's where the woman with the issue of blood in the press of the people around him would say, "If I can just touch the hem of his garment, I'll know I'll be made whole." And she did. And Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" It was because of her great faith as she touched the hymn of his garment. But this is the atmosphere. This is the setting that Jesus was trying to make his way to Jerus. Have you ever noticed that when you have an issue that you need Jesus to deal with, it just seems like he's touching somebody else instead of you. WHEN YOUR PROBLEM SEEMS THE MOST URGENT TO YOU, it seemed like Jesus is working in someone else's life. You know, I'm sure Jerus might have thought, "My goodness, Lord, she's she's had this issue of blood for 12 long years. Another few hours won't hurt. I need him right now." Sometimes we are demanding of Jesus because we want him to work on our time frame and in our schedule and on our need. But if you'll notice in verse 35, indeed they came to him from his house. It said there there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, "Thy daughter is dead. Why troublest thou the master any further?" Those from Jerus brought news of his daughter's death, but they also brought a doubtfilled message. In other words, THEY SAID, "FORGET THE MASTER NOW. THIS IS EVEN TOO DIFFICULT for him to deal with. You know, this is one of the reasons that it became dangerous in the church to have prayer requests, spoken requests, because in our humanity, we want to create a scenario that's so tough that Jesus can't even fix it. I'm here to TELL YOU, THE MASTER CAN FIX ANYTHING. WHEN THE MASTER WANTS TO STEP IN, THE MASTER CAN STEP IN AND TAKE CARE OF ANYTHING. HE HAS ALL POWER. HE HAS ALL AUTHORITY AND HE CAN FIX IT. THERE IS NO PROBLEM TOO BIG FOR THE MASTER. I CAME TO TELL SOMEBODY IN THIS HOUSE TONIGHT IN YOUR FLESH. YOU MAY HAVE BEEN CONVINCING YOURSELF THAT JESUS CAN'T FIX WHAT YOU'VE messed up. I'm here TO TELL YOU THE MASTER CAN FIX ANYTHING. DON'T YOU HAVE A DOUBTFILLED MESSAGE? DON'T HAVE AN IDEA OF HE CAN'T DO IT. JUST TURN IT OVER TO THE MASTER. I I SOMETIMES FIND MYSELF AMAZED AT PEOPLE. I'll repeat the wellworn story. Bishop's told it. Pastor Anony's told it, but I'll tell it again. The story of the fellow who was on the lonely country road and had a flat tire. He went to the trunk of his vehicle. He opened and there was no jack in his trunk. He saw a house up on the hill with the light on and he started walking toward that house with the intentions of borrowing a jack. The first thought in his mind was, you know, there's probably some nice people up there and if I would knock on the door, they'll probably allow me to borrow the jack. But the more he walked, the more negative he became. He said, 'You know, that guy may have to get up early, and if I knock on his door and disturb him, he's going to be really upset. He's he's not going to like this. And the the closer he got to the house, he he he again was talking himself out of it. He said, "You know, these are probably mean guy. This guy's liable to slug me when I lock on the door. I I I may be getting in real trouble." AND BY THE TIME HE GOT TO THE HOUSE, HE WAS ALL WORKED UP. HE KNOCKED ON THE DOOR. WHEN THE GUY OPENED THE DOOR, HE SAID, "JUST KEEP YOUR OLD JACK." If we aren't careful, that's the way we will approach Jesus with our situation. WE'LL SAY, "JESUS, YOU CAN'T FIX THIS. THIS THING IS DEAD. THERE'S NO WAY. THIS PROBLEM IS TOO GREAT. I CAME TO TELL YOU, YOU CAN TURN IT OVER TO THE MASTER. HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. HE HE MAY NOT BE ON YOUR TIME SCHEDULE, BUT HE'S STILL THE MASTER. HE CAN FIX THAT THING. >> You see, he's the master not just of healing. He's the master of every situation. I can't help but think of brother George Acres when I read from Mark 4:36. For it said, "And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. In other words, it was full of waves. And he was in the hinder part OF THE SHIP ASLEEP ON A PILLOW. And they AWAKE HIM, AND SAYING HIM, MASTER, carest thou not that we perish? Sometimes we can find ourselves in such peril that we get a little honory in our prayer with Jesus. We say, "DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT ME ANYMORE, LORD? WHY AM I GOING THROUGH THIS?" THIS WAS A QUITE DEMANDING STATEMENT THEY MADE TO JESUS WHO WAS SLEEPING IN THEIR SHIP. MASTER, carest thou not that we perish? He arose. He rebuked the winds, settled in. And he said in the sea, "Peace, be still." And the winds ceased. And there was a great calm. And he SAID UNTO THEM, "WHY ARE YE SO FEARFUL? HOW IS IT THAT YE HAVE NO FAITH?" I'M AMAZED AT THOSE THAT HAVE JESUS IN THEIR BOAT, AND THEY WALK AROUND AFRAID WITHOUT FAITH. I'M HERE TO TELL YOU, YOU GOT TO HAVE FAITH IN THE MASTER. HE CAN WORK OUT YOUR SITUATION. YOU NEED TO CALL ON HIM SOMETIMES. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE HONORY AND SAY, "DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT ME?" YOU JUST NEED TO SAY, "LORD, THERE'S A STORM. I NEED YOUR HELP TODAY." >> And amazingly, verse 41 of that passage said, "They feared exceedingly and said one to another, what manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him?" question mark. I'll tell you what manner of man this is. THIS IS THE MASTER YOU'RE DEALING WITH. THE MASTER'S GOT THIS SITUATION UNDER CONTROL. THAT'S WHY BROTHER GEORGE ACRES SAYS, "I KNOW THE MASTER OF THE WIND." >> I keep singing it like he does, >> but you got the message. >> But let ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ELSE. HE'S NOT JUST THE master of the wind. He's the master of commitment. Let me explain. In Matthew 19:16, we read, "And behold, ONE CAME AND SAID unto him,"Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" And he said unto him, "Why callst thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God. But if thou will enter into life, keep the commandments." Had this young man been smart, he would not have engaged Jesus any farther. He said, "Good master, what do I need to have to have eternal life?" He said, "Just obey the word. Obey the ten commandments. Obey all the commandments. Obey the word." Do you Did you know it's just that simple? If we will get in the book, Pastor Whitley so epily stated it today. If we'll have a daily devotion, IF WE'LL STAY IN THE WORD, LET THE WORD, IT'LL GUIDE EVERY SITUATION in your life. IT WILL HAVE DIRECTIONS. AND IF YOU'LL KNOW THE BOOK WHEN THOSE SITUATIONS COME UP, YOU'RE NOT HAVING TO SEARCH. YOU'RE NOT EVEN HAVING TO GO AND LOOK IN THE CONCORDANCE. YOU CAN FIND THE ANSWER TO YOUR SITUATION IN THE WORD OF THE LORD. He said, "Obey the commandments." >> Had that young man been real smart and wanted to be satisfied with the situation, he'd have said, "Thank you. I'll do that." But notice, he's just like this. He wanted to press Jesus because he was asking, he thought, rhetorical questions to make himself look good. He said unto him, "Which commandments?" Jesus be more specific. So Jesus said, "Thou shalt do no murder. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Honor thy father and thy mother, and thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." I can imagine that young man almost popped his buttons off when Jesus said all that. HE SAID, "ALL THESE THINGS HAVE I KEPT FROM MY YOUTH UP." >> He should have stopped again, >> but he had to push it just a little further. He said, "So, what do I lack?" Don't ask Jesus a question if you don't want an honest answer. JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, "IF THOU WILL BE PERFECT, GO AND SELL THAT THOU HAST AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND THOU SHALT HAVE TREASURES IN HEAVEN, AND COME AND FOLLOW ME." And when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. YOU SEE, SOMETIMES WE find ourselves NOT SATISFIED WITH JUST FOLLOWING THE COMMANDMENTS. WE want some SPECIAL ANSWER FROM COMMITTING to God. Listen, he has a commitment level for every one of us. And if we will BE FAITHFUL AND OBEY HIS WORD, TRUST IN HIM, LIVE YOUR LIFE. >> I keep referring to brother Whitley's message for he excited me. so much. He said, "Sometime we ought to grow up." >> What that means is there are things in life that we just need TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE CARE OF. You know, I believe in praying about everything, >> but there's some things I don't even have to pray about >> because there's already a COMMITMENT BEING ESTABLISHED. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME THINGS, SOME LIFESTYLES IN OUR LIVES IF WE'RE GOING TO FOLLOW THE MASTER THAT'S ALREADY SETTLED. IT'S NOT SETTLED WHETHER I'M GOING TO GO to church or not. I'm going to church. IT'S NOT GOING TO BE I'M GOING TO NEED TO PRAY ABOUT WHETHER I'M GOING TO GIVE MY TITHE AND MY OFFERING. THAT'S ALREADY SETTLED. I MADE A COMMITMENT A LONG TIME AGO. IT'S NOT A A A DECISION AS TO WHETHER I'M GOING TO KEEP FOLLOWING HIM AND NOT GET DISCOURAGED. THAT'S NOT AN OPTION. You see, when we get to thinking that we're, as they say, all that in a shirt pocket spiritually. >> Isaiah 64:6 said, "But we're all as the unclean thing, >> and all of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." Don't try to brag on how holy you are. Folks who become self-righteous get judgmental and look at other people's lives and try to say, "Well, buddy, they need to be doing they need to be doing that." And they want to brag on how good they are. I've obeyed all the commandments. >> Just follow Jesus. >> He's the master of commitment. >> AND JESUS WAS ALSO THE master of being an example. In John 13:4 we read, "And he riseth from supper and laid aside his garment and took a towel and girded himself that he pth water into a basin and begin to wash his disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter. Peter said unto him, Lord, dust thou wash my feet?" Boy, Simon Peter was feeling holy at this time. Jesus answered and said unto him, "What I do, thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know thereafter." He said, "Don't don't interrupt what's going on here. Just just go along with the program. I can't you see I've got a towel." And and so that's exactly what Jesus did. Jesus just said, "All right, here's what's going to happen." He got up from the supper table and he got a towel. He took the towel and he girded himself. He wrapped the towel. >> PETER SAID, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO WASH MY FEET?" JESUS SAID, "HEY, CHILL." >> WELL, that may not be Hebrew, but that's close. He said, "JUST GO ALONG WITH THE PROGRAM." BUT PETER IN HIMSELF WANTED JESUS TO KNOW JUST HOW DEDICATED AND HOLY HE WAS. JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID HIM, "WHAT I DO, THOU KNOWEST NOT." NOW HE SAID, "YOU DON'T GET THE WHOLE PICTURE HERE, BUT THOU SHALT KNOW HEREAFTER." PETER SAID HIM, "THOU shalt never wash my feet." Jesus answered him and said, "If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me," Simon. Well, to Simon's credit, he said, "Give me a bath." Lord, NOT MY FEET ONLY, BUT ALSO MY HANDS AND MY HEAD. JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, "HE THAT IS WASHED NEEDETH NOT SAFE TO WASH HIS FEET, BUT IS CLEAN EVERY WIT. And ye are clean, but not all. For he knew that he should betray HIM. THEREFORE, HE SAID, YE ARE NOT ALL CLEAN." SO AFTER HE HAD WASHED THEIR FEET AND HAD TAKEN HIS GARMENT and was set down again, HE SAID UNTO THEM, "KNOW WHAT YE WHAT I HAVE DONE to you." It wasn't that his disciples feet were physically so dirty, but he was giving an example of being a servant. You know, frankly, in our humanity, there's too many of us. The only place we ever want to put a towel is under our neck. I'm ready to be served. >> We sometimes need to take that towel from around our neck and put it around our waist and get down on our knees and say, "Oh, God, I want to be your servant. whatever I could do, LET ME SERVE THE LEAST. LET ME BE A SERVANT OF YOUR KINGDOM. JESUS WAS THE MASTER OF BEING AN EXAMPLE. FOR HERE'S WHAT IT SAID. HE SAID, "IF THEN YOUR LORD AND MASTER," HE SAID, "DO Y'ALL SEE WHAT I DID?" HE SAID, "IF YOUR LORD AND MASTER HAVE WASHED YOUR FEET, YE ALSO OUGHT TO WASH ONE ANOTHER'S FEET. FOR I HAVE GIVEN YOU AN EXAMPLE." THE MASTER KNOWS HOW TO MAKE THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF BEING A SERVANT. that ye should do as I have done to you. >> But you see, for the master to work in our lives, there are some things that he requires. I take us back to our original text in Mark five. When they spake and came to the ruler of the synagogue and said, "Your do daughter is dead. Why troublest thou the master any further?" Jesus basically said, "No trouble for the master. >> No trouble for the master." As soon as Jesus heard the word THAT WAS SPOKEN, HE SAID UNTO the ruler OF THE SYNAGOGUE, "BE NOT AFRAID. Only believe." IF GOD'S GOING TO WORK IN YOUR LIFE, YOU NEED TO LOSE YOUR FEAR AND GET YOUR FAITH. WE NEED TO STOP BEING SO AFRAID OF WHAT'S COMING AND INSTEAD HAVE FAITH of who's WITH US THAT THE MASTER'S GOT OUR SITUATION. >> Lose your fear. >> TIMOTHY SAID IT THIS WAY. WHEREFORE I PUT THEE IN REMEMBRANCE THAT THOU STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD WHICH IS IN THEE BY THE PUTTING ON MY HANDS. FOR GOD HATH NOT GIVEN A SPIRIT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER AND OF LOVE AND OF A SOUND MIND. WE NEED TO GET OUR MINDS RIGHT. GET OUR HEARTS RIGHT. THOSE THINGS THAT WE KEEP FEARING. >> Get them out OF YOUR LIFE. GREATER IS HE THAT'S IN ME THAN HE THAT'S IN THE WORLD. DON'T LET THOSE OUTSIDE THINGS, THOSE TRICKS OF THE ENEMY TRY TO DECEIVE YOU INTO FEAR. >> You got to believe. You got to have faith. Hebrews 11:6 said, "But without faith, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to please him. For he that cometh to God must believe that he is that he is a reward a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." So notice the chronology. Jesus said, "Get rid of your fear and believe." And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter and James and John, the brother of James. HE CAME TO THE HOUSE of the ruler of the synagogue and seeth the tumult and them that wept and wailed greatly was likely a very sad scene. This young child dead lying before the household so loved all crying and wailing. A hopeless situation it appeared. >> And when he was come in, he saith unto them, why make you this a do? Why are you weeping? What what you crying about? The damsel's not dead, but sleepeth. Jesus was about to do a miracle. He was sending a signal. I'm I'm I'm about to do something special here. And here's what happened. It said, "And they laughed him to scorn." But when he had put them all out, let me tell you, you need to put scornful attitudes and scornful people out of your life if you're going to have faith and believe. >> NOW, HERE'S WHAT THE term scorn means. Scorn means an emotion involving anger and disgust, contempt, AN ATTITUDE OF DESPISING. SOME FOLK GO AROUND ALL THE TIME ANGRY AT THE WORLD, DISGUSTED AT WHAT'S GOING ON, THEY HAVE A CONTEMPTABLE ATTITUDE, AND THEY DESPISE EVERYTHING. >> The reason some cannot get an answer from God in their situation, they have anger and disgust over something that's they've dealt with, something maybe from their past, an individual that they've dealt with that they didn't like the situation, HOW IT WORKED OUT. GOD COULD NOT work in a timely manner. So they get disgusted because that God didn't do what they wanted him to do and what they thought he should do. The psalmist said this, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitth in the seat of the scornful." If we aren't careful, we can find ourselves sitting with a scornful attitude. disgusted, >> despising anyone else's success or anyone else's blessings. You see, Jesus removed all the negative influences because the master's timing >> was impeccable. If Jesus Jesus hasn't fixed what you've been praying about, he's not finished working. >> He's not on your time schedule. He don't need your time. He'll work the way he needs to work in his will on his time frame. Verse 41 says, "And he took the damsel by the hand, and he said unto her, Talitha, whom I, which is being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise." And straightway the damsel arose and walked, FOR SHE WAS OF THE AGE OF 12 YEARS. And they were astonished WITH A GREAT ASTONISHMENT. LET ME TELL YOU, THE MASTER IS THE MASTER OF EVERY SITUATION. WHATEVER YOU'VE BEEN DEALING WITH, WHATEVER SITUATION YOU CAME WITH TONIGHT, I'M HERE TO TELL YOU, TURN IT OVER TO THE MASTER. REBUKE FEAR, HAVE FAITH, RELIEVE SCORN OUT OF YOUR LIFE. >> Stand with me. This was not the only time that Jesus dealt with raising the dead and someone saying his timing wasn't correct. Remember when Lazarus died, his sister Martha in frustration said to Jesus, "If thou had been here, my brother had not died." Jesus had to explain to her, "I'm not on your time schedule, Martha. >> I'm not doing things the way you want it done." Yeah. He said, "This is the glory of God is going to be revealed here. You just listen. Quit worried about your time schedule and follow Jesus leading. He's on time. That's why WE SING SONGS LIKE he's an ontime God." Yes, he is. The words of that song says, "He may not come when you want him, but he's right there on time." >> You see, it was no trouble for the master to raise her from the dead. And if we aren't also careful, we can be as the messengers that first brought the news, we can say, "This problem's too great to take to Jesus." I'm here to tell you, there's no problem too big or no problem too small that Jesus can't and does not want to handle. >> So, I finally take us here. I want to be like the master. How about you? I want to strive to be like the master. I can't be him, but I can be like him. >> 1 Corinthians 9:24 makes this statement. It gives an example. It says, "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run that you may obtain." He's taking a an earthly example, a human flesh example of a race being run. And he says, if you're going to get in a race, there's a a a prize, but if you're going to get that prize, you got to run. It said that all run, but only one receiveth the prize. But then he is making an analogy and a comparison. He said, "In every man that striveth for the mastery," if I'm going to be like Jesus, I need to strive for the mastery. Here's what the mastery is in 1 Corinthians 9:24. Every every man that striveth for the mastery is temperant in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I THEREFORE SO RUN, NOT AS UNCERTAINLY, so fight I, not as one that beatth the air, BUT I KEEP MY BODY under under my but I keep under my body rather, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast away. Now, don't let this passage perplex you. For the earthy example is that all run for one prize. But the incorruptible example is we can all run and win the prize. >> And it's not a participation trophy. I promise you we all have a prize to win and that's to gain heaven. But the example was not about all running to get one prize. The example was the training. >> For he said, if I'm going to be in this incorruptible race, I must be temperate in all things. The term temperate defined is this. It is the virtue of moderation and self-control, particularly concerning desires, appetites, and emotions. Now, think about that just a little bit. For those of us who have obeyed the salvation message, we've repented of our sins. We've already been baptized in in water by immersion in the name of Jesus. We've been filled with the Holy Ghost evidence with speaking with tongues. But if you're going to run, you've got to have disciplines about you. Spiritual disciplines. Moderation means you're not living like this all the time. Highs and lows. What' you say? Those that jump the highest use the ones that fall the hardest. Man, if we'll find a level of moderation, the old song said, "Daily walking close to thee, let it be." I don't want to come in here one time, BROTHER MCOOL. I JUST BELIEVE GOD'S gonna show up in a a shakina of glory and we're going to see lightning and thunder and the next time you're dragging yourself, I'm just sit down. I don't believe I'm going to be able to make it tonight. >> Find a level OF MODERATION THAT EVERY DAY THERE'S GOING TO BE UPS AND DOWNS. THERE'S GOING TO BE SAD AND HAPPY. THERE'S GOING TO BE RAIN AND SUNSHINE. BUT IF I WILL LIVE A LIFE PLEASING TO GOD ALL THE TIME, SELF-CONTROL, A VIRTUE OF MODERATION CONCERNING my desires, I'm not going to let my flesh overrule my spirit, MY APPETITES, THE THINGS THAT I DESIRE. I'm going to keep it in line with what the word tells me to do and my emotions. It is amazing good Holy Ghost fililled folks who sometimes do not take the opportunity to get a hold of their emotions and they find themselves at odds in this world. I'm here to tell you I enjoy being in a move of God in the altar on Sunday morning, Sunday night. But sometimes Monday's on the way. Oh, brother Mool, we just come back from NYC. It was heaven. It was marvelous. I'm walking on a cloud. Hey, Monday's coming. You may not have a cloud to walk on Monday, but if you'll walk in faith and moderation, in discipline, in temperance, keep control of your emotions. I'll I'll give Christian school parents some advice. Don't believe everything your child tells you about your teacher. If you won't, we won't believe everything they tell us about you. Don't be so anxious to have a confrontation. Don't Don't be so up and down. I'm I'm pontificating now and quit preaching.
