Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

David's wounds and Jeremiah's grief

  • David takes responsibility for his own self-inflicted wounds, pleading with the God of wrath to be the God of mercy.
  • Jeremiah's grievous wound and perpetual pain picture hurts that refuse to be healed.
  • Wounds may be physical, emotional, or spiritual — self-inflicted, accidental, or the result of a malicious attack.
  • The deepest wounds come from those close enough to reach us — wounded in the house of his friends.

Scriptures: Psalm 38:1-8; Jeremiah 10:19; Jeremiah 15:18; Zechariah 13:6

Scars are the evidence of healing

  • A scar is the mark left after injured tissue has healed — thank God for the scars instead of fretting over them.
  • Paul catalogues beatings, stonings, shipwrecks and the daily care of the churches, yet glories in his infirmities.
  • The thorn in the flesh is answered with grace: his strength is made perfect in weakness.
  • He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities — his wounds purchase our healing.
  • The risen Jesus showed Thomas his wounds; he was wounded for us, that we might be healed.

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 11:22-30; 2 Corinthians 12:5-10; Isaiah (book-only, as spoken); John 20:19-28

A healing church and the Pentecost remedy

  • The church is the called-out assembly — it should be a place of healing and restoration, not a place to receive fresh wounds.
  • God restores health and heals the wounds of the outcast whom no one seeks after.
  • Paul bore in his body the marks of the Lord Jesus — scars carried as testimony, not shame.
  • Pricked in their hearts, they asked what to do; the answer is the remedy: repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Scriptures: Matthew 16:18; Psalms (book-only, as spoken); Psalm 147:3; Jeremiah 30:15-17; Galatians (book-only, as spoken); Acts 2:37-38

I want to call your attention tonight to the book of Psalms, the 38th chapter. In fact, I'm going to read uh from three different passages. First from Psalms, then from the book of Jeremiah in two different places. So, if you would stay with me just a few moments. Psalms 38, beginning with verse number one. Oh Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasen me in thy hot displeasure. For thine arrow stick fast in me, thy hand presseth me sore. There's no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger. Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. For mine iniquities are gone over my head as a heavy burden. They are too heavy for me. Notice verse five. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. I would pause and tell you David is taking responsibility for his own actions and his self-inflicted pain. Nevertheless, he knows that the God he serves is a God of wrath and displeasure. But now he's asking for this same God to be the God of mercy. He says, "My wounds stink and are corrupt. Because of my foolishness, I'm troubled. I am bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long. For my loins are filled with a loathome disease, and there is no soundness in my flesh. I'm feeble and sore broken. I have roared by reason of the disqueness of my heart. Going to the book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah the 11th chapter verse 2 says woe is me for my hurt my wound is grievious but I said truly this is a grief and I must bear it Jeremiah 15:18 says why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable which refuseth to be healed wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar and as waters that fail. For a few moments tonight, I would speak to you on this subject. Jesus wants to heal your wounds. Jesus wants to heal your wounds. Let's pray. Savior, I love you. Lord, I once again stand before you amazed at the wonderful things that you do for us every day. Lord, I thank you for your precious presence that we have experienced in this house tonight. Lord, I thank you for the praise that's gone up and I thank you for the blessings that have come down now. Lord, I pray that your word would speak to our hearts. Lord, let us receive all that you have for us. Lord, I pray that you would encourage the discouraged. Lord, you would strengthen the minds of the feeble. Lord, you would rebuke the devourer that would try to destroy. And Lord, most of all, I thank you because you are our savior and you are the healer of our wounds. Be with us in all that we say and do. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. And amen. Jesus wants to heal your wounds. The passages of scripture that I used for our scripture text. First, David gives a fairly dark, dim view of his circumstances. Now, you will find that David had self-inflicted wounds. And I need not go into the specifics of all of the terrible things that David did that caused pain in his life. Even though God gave him many victories, he fought with his flesh and committed atrocities. He committed terrible things and had many shortcomings. And he would find himself pleading before God time and time again. If you go through the 150 psalms, if you read through all of them, one psalm he will be thanking the Lord and worshiping and and giving praise and adoration. The next psalm, one of them he says, "I'm a worm." you know, he just he's going through everything. He's he's going through troubles and trials. But David is no different than all humanity. The other two verses that I read to you came from Jeremiah. Jeremiah's reputation is that of the weeping prophet. And Jeremiah the weeping prophet, they say he wept because of the sins and the shortcomings of God's people. and in common the three verse or three text that I read to you all talked about the wounds or the injuries that were being suffered. Now without having a show of hands I think I could ask the rhetorical question tonight and get a near unanimous answer. How many have ever been physically wounded? And sure, all could raise their hand. I have told before, but I will once again repeat the story that I have vividly in my mind from being in the first grade of a wound that I got. Because when I was in first grade, first graders feel invincible. I promise you. And first graders don't see danger. We lived in out in Pal and in front of the house we lived in was a gravel drive that was nearly a half mile long. It it wasn't really a road. It was a gravel drive that ran in front of our house and into our house. And it was the coolest thing in the world. As a first grader, when I got a bicycle, I could ride up and down that road, for there were rarely vehicles on that road. But I found out that the faster that you went, you could slam on the brakes and slide that bicycle sideways. And I just thought that was the coolest thing ever. Now, combine that with I don't know what the occasion was, but I got a costume that had a cape on it. AND I FOUND THE FASTER THAT YOU RODE, THE MORE THE CAPE WOULD FLAP IN THE WIND and it looked like you were flying. So, I finally got up the nerve to go as fast as my legs would take me and pedal. Go as far down that little gravel road as I could. And then I was going to slam on the brakes and slide that bicycle sideways. But I was going too fast for my slam and slide. AND I LEARNED I COULD FLY FOR a short few moments only to land in the gravel and to wound myself. Now, I'm not talking about the skin, knees, and elbows that go along with kids, but I'm talking about a wound deep enough and painful enough to leave a scar, to leave a mark. Till this day on my upper thigh, I have the mark of my bicycle flying days. I got wounded. But I've got news for you. We might have got out of first grade, but if I took the time tonight and had a mic pass around, we could probably have everybody share their boo boo story. Most of us could say, "You think that wound is bad? LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY SURGERY. LET ME TELL YOU WHEN SOMETHING FELL OFF and hit me in the head right here." We all at one time or another have likely suffered some type of wound. But tonight the term wound in this instance by definition is an injury to the body as from violence, an accident or surgery that typically involves laceration or breaking of membrane as the skin and usually damage to underlying tissue. BUT THERE'S A SECOND definition for a wound that says a mental or emotional hurt or blow. While most of us have indeed suffered physical wounds, we also have emotional and yes, even spiritual wounds that we sometimes have suffered. Our wounds may be self-inflicted, the result of an accident or someone else's carelessness. They a may even be wounds from a MALICIOUS ATTACK. YOU may have w have a wound of loss, of disappointment or abuse, but we have all had wounds from one time to another. In fact, Zechariah 13:6 said this, "And one shall SAY UNTO HIM, WHAT ARE these wounds in thy hands?" Then shall he answer, "Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends." Yes. And Zachchariah was indeed prophesying about the wounds of Jesus at the crucifixion. But there is also a parallel meaning for those who have been wounded deeply in life. A very deep hurt can often happen from someone you love or someone you trust. It can be physical, it can be verbal, IT CAN BE SEXUAL OR EMOTIONAL ABUSE. It may come through a friend, a spouse or a parent. These wounds can come from actions of uncaring and insensitive people. Wounds can happen through a betrayal or a breach of trust. Generally, a wound comes from someone who IS ABLE TO GET CLOSE enough to you to wound you deeply. And sadly, many people spend their lives in anger and rage and hurt, resentment, and bitterness, DWELLING ON THE SOURCE OF THEIR WOUNDS rather than looking to the only one WHO CAN REALLY FIX those things, and that's Jesus Christ. WE, THE CHURCH, IN FACT, need to see ourselves and other members of the body of Christ as new creatures. And we should be able to overcome the many insecurities that hinder relationships with others. Instead of looking instead of looking on those outside things such as folks WEAKNESSES AND FOLKS FLAWS AND their ignorance and stupidity, if you will, their prejudices and their lack OF ZEAL, WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE GODLY POTENTIAL THAT everybody has because the spirit of God has put that within us. You see, many people bring their wounds to the church and sadly too many have come to churches with wounds only to receive more wounds. Maybe they have been wounded as a child or in a marriage, in another relationship, but their wounds have followed them into the church. They may have Jesus and they may have salvation, but there is still a need for a healing in their lives. Hear me. You see, the church should be an instrument of healing for broken lives, not a place for folks to get wounded again. We as a church need to find healing in ourselves and also be reaching out to heal others. Yes, I've heard folks say, "I don't do church anymore." Because they've had negative experiences in the so-called church world. But we need to make a distinction as the church in the difference of what the real church is and what INSENSITIVE PEOPLE WHO ATTEND a church are. Jesus said upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. That's in Matthew the 16th chapter verse number 18. If you look up the meaning of that statement, church in that instance means the called out assembly. Jesus has CALLED US OUT. WE HAVE BEEN CALLED OUT. WHEN HE CHOSE US, WHEN HE CALLED US, HE CALLED US TO BE PEOPLE WHO ARE SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT FROM THE WORLD. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO BE HURT. THE CHURCH SHOULD BE A PLACE OF HEALING AND A PLACE OF RESTORATION FOR HURTING WOUNDED PEOPLE. OH, HALLELUJAH. If we're called out of darkness into his marvelous light, we the people of God should be different and gathered together in his name. So tonight, I came with a simple yet profound statement. Jesus wants to heal your wounds. IF YOU'RE IN THIS HOUSE TONIGHT, I KNOW NOT WHAT IT MIGHT BE, BUT WHATEVER IT IS, JESUS WANTS TO HEAL WHAT'S BEEN AILING YOU. JESUS WANTS TO TAKE CARE OF IT. DAVID SAID HIS WOUNDS STINK. JEREMIAH TALKED ABOUT THE WOUNDS THAT WERE PERPETUAL AND WOULDN'T HEAL. But let me tell you, Jesus wants to heal your wounds. You know what the sign of an heal of a healed wound is? It's a scar. Frankly, the deeper AND MORE CATASTROPHIC THE wound likely the greater the scar that will appear. So, let me remind you. I remember brother Greg Mcool pinning and singing a song that said, "Lord, don't take my scars. They remind me OF WHERE I USED to be. AREN'T YOU THANKFUL FOR YOUR SCARS?" DON'T SAY, "GOD, TAKE AWAY MY SCARS." JUST SAY, "GOD, HEAL MY WOUNDS. JESUS, I WANT YOU TO HEAL MY WOUNDS." YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE MY SCARS AWAY. IN FACT, THE VERY DEFINITION of the word scar is a mark left after injured tissue has healed. THE TRUTH IS, SOME OF US ARE STILL FRETTING OVER OUR SCARS WHEN WE SHOULD BE REJOICING THAT OUR WOUND HAS BEEN HEALED. >> Hear me. I HEAR SOME AND I SEE SOME THAT THE BLESSED REMINDERS OF WHAT THEY'VE gone through, THEY'VE ALLOWED IT TO BECOME SOMETHING THEY'RE ASHAMED OF RATHER THAN THANKFUL FOR THE SCARS. >> SOME NEVER ALLOW JESUS to really heal THEIR WOUNDS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DEAL WITH THEIR SCARS. If a minister gets up and preaches about thus and so instead of saying, YOU KNOW, YOU SEE THIS SCAR RIGHT HERE IN ME SPIRITUALLY AND EMOTIONALLY, I WENT THROUGH WHAT HE'S PREACHING ABOUT, YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT. YOU CAN RECOVER. SOME TRY TO GET OFFENDED AND THEY START RUBBING AND MOVING THAT SCAR AGAIN TILL THEY OPEN A FRESH WOUND. LISTEN, IF GOD HAS DELIVERED YOU FROM SOMETHING, IF GOD BROUGHT YOU THROUGH SOMETHING, DON'T GET OFFENDED WHEN THE WORD STARTS PREACHING ABOUT THAT SIN SO SOMEONE ELSE DOESN'T SUFFER IT. SAY, "LISTEN, HEAR WHAT THE PREACHER'S PREACHING. YOU CAN RECOVER. YOU CAN ENDURE IT. YOU CAN GET OVER THAT THING." I hate for anyone to have ever suffered through the horrors of a divorce in their life. Now, I realize it's really quiet. I just hope you're listening, but let me tell you, I know of no one yet that would say, "Well, you know, I went through a divorce, and boy, I hope all of my kids get to go through the same thing." No, just the opposite. BUT I'VE SEEN A FEW THAT THEY'VE GOT A SCAR OF A BROKEN relationship in their life. And if the word of God TRIES TO TEACH THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE A broken life, that you need to marry in the faith and you need to WORK OUT THINGS AT ALL POSSIBLE AND YOU NEED TO GUARD YOUR MARRIAGE. Some get offended. Well, I went through all of that and I I THINK THE PREACHER IS JUST PREACHING AT ME SAYING, "NO, I I'VE GOT SOME SCARS THAT I'VE GONE THROUGH, BUT I'VE BEEN HEALED. I SURVIVED THAT. GOD DELIVERED ME. HE RESTORED ME. PREACHER, PREACH ABOUT IT SOME MORE. WARN EVERY CHILD. WARN EVERY SINGLE ONE. THEY DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT. >> See your scars for the evidence that healing is take taken place. You see the apostle Paul told distinctly about his wounds. The Apostle Paul got wounded a bunch of times. And I'm here to tell you, just because you serve Christ doesn't mean you won't sometimes suffer wounds and injuries. 2 Corinthians 11, this was Paul talking to the Corinthians. He said in verse 22, "ARE THEY HEBREWS? SO am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. ARE THEY THE SEED OF ABRAHAM? SO am I." He's given his pedigree that man, he could fit in anywhere. His uh bloodline and lineage and also his upbringing. He had all types of dual citizenship and access to the culture of that day. ARE THEY MINISTERS OF CHRIST? I SPEAK AS A FOOL. I am more. Sound like he's bragging, but wait. Hear the whole message. He said, I'm more and labors more abundant. means that I've worked hard for for the Lord. And then he says in stripes above measure. You know what stripes are? That means a leather whip. A cat of nine tails was usually this was a a handle with nine leather straps many times with bone fragments that had been tied into the end of it so it would tear flesh. He'd been whipped in prison more frequent AND DEATH OFF OF THE JEWS FIVE times I res received I 40 stripes save one that's going to leave a mark thrice I was beaten WITH RAJ ONCE I WAS STONED THRICE I SUFFERED A SHIPWRECK A NIGHT AND A DAY I have been in THE DEEP IN JOURNEYS OFTEN IN PERILS OF WATERS IN PERILS OF ROBBERS IN PERILS of my OWN COUNTRYMEN IN PERILS by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, IN PERILS AMONG FALSE BRETHREN, IN WEARINESS AND PAINFULNESS, IN WATCHING OFTEN, IN HUNGER AND THIRST, AND FASTING OFTEN, IN COLD AND NAKEDNESS, MAN, he'd been through it. He's got some scars. He's got some marks. And frankly, if Paul was presenting a negative thought, these would not be scars. These would be wounds. He would be griping and complaining. In fact, HE WENT ON TO SAY THIS. BESIDES ALL OF THAT STUFF, beside those things THAT ARE WITHOUT ALL THAT STUFF HAPPENED TO ME WITHOUT OUTSIDE of the establishment of the church and the churches beside these things that are without that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. You're not going to believe the phone call I got today. Can't believe what sister so and so was trying to tell me. Five times beaten, 40 stripes save one. Three times beaten with rod, one time stone, three times shipwrecked. Over in Acts, you can read about it. Pastor Whitley preached it. when he dealt with the shipwreck, not only did he have scars on his back from the beatings, likely if you talk to Paul looked over his hand, he probably had a couple of fang marks about right here where where the viper bit him in front of the barbarian people that he shook off. He's not whining. He's not griping about his scars. Verse 29, he said, "Who's weak? And I am not weak. Who's offended? And I burn not." He said, "If anybody had the right to get their feelings hurt at God, I do." But notice verse 30. If I must need glory, I WILL GLORY OF THE THINGS WHICH CONCERN MY INFIRMITIES. HE SAID, "LOOK AT MY SCARS. I'VE BEEN THROUGH IT. I'VE SUFFERED IT ALL. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH. BUT JESUS BROUGHT ME OUT. JESUS WANTS TO HEAL YOUR WOUND. NO MATTER WHAT YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH, NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH, WOULD YOU LET JESUS REACH DOWN AND BRING THAT HEALING BOMB AND HIS TOUCH AND HEAL YOU? YOU SEE, SATAN WANTS TO MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY because you got scars. >> He wants you to be self-conscious about the things you've gone through. >> Paul faced this as well. 2 Corinthians 12:5 he said of such in one will I glory yet I myself I will not glory but in mine infirmities for though I would desire to glory this I'm a human like everybody else I I like recognition I shall not BE A FOOL FOR I WILL SAY THE TRUTH but now I forbear lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be or that he heareth OF ME LEST I SHOULD BE EXALTED ABOVE measure through the abundance of their revelations. There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger SATAN TO BUFFET ME, LEST I SHOULD BE EXALTED ABOVE MEASURE. FOR THIS THING I BESOUGHT THE LORD THRICE, THAT IT MIGHT DEPART FROM ME. Many theologians have given speculation AS TO WHAT PAUL'S THORN IN THE FLESH WAS. Some have thought it was a physical malady. Others have said, I've even preached about it. Paul got angry. He might have had a temper that was his thorn and th flesh that he couldn't get rid of. But let me add at least one other possibility to the pot. It could be that Paul was so scarred that in his humanity, his physical appearance might have bothered him a little bit. I've got a feeling if you get whipped five times, 40 save one with cat of nine tails, likely those scars weren't restricted to his back. That thing ripped around, maybe hit him in the face. He could have had scars. He could have had all kind of physical damage from wounds he had recovered from. And could it be that he had asked God to do something to change these scars in his life? But verse nine, he said unto me, speaking God unto him, "My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in MY INFIRMITIES, THAT THE POWER OF CHRIST MAY REST UPON ME. I GLORY IN MY SCARS. THEREFORE, I TAKE PLEASURE IN INFIRMITIES, IN REPROACHES, IN NECESSITIES, IN PERSECUTIONS, IN DISTRESSES FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. FOR WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN I AM STRONG. LET ME TELL YOU, IF YOU GOT SCARS, SAY, "THANK YOU, JESUS, THAT YOU HEAL ME. THANK YOU, JESUS, I'VE RECOVERED. I'M GOING ON. I'M NOT GOING TO QUIT. I'M NOT GOING TO BE ASHAMED OF WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH. IN FACT, IT'S IT'S SIMPLE AS THIS. >> Jesus took wounds so we could have our healing. >> ISAIAH SAID IT THIS WAY, BUT HE WAS WOUNDED for our transgressions. I DID THE SIN AND HE TOOK THE WOUND FOR ME. WHEN HE WENT TO CALVARY, HE WAS DYING FOR ME. HE WAS SUFFERING FOR ME. HE DIDN'T DO IT. HE WAS SINLESS. I'M THE ONE THAT DID IT. BUT HE TOOK THE WOUNDS FOR ME. HE WAS WOUNDED FOR MY TRANSGRESSIONS. >> HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR INIQUITIES. THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM. AND WITH HIS STRIPES, >> WE'RE HEALED. MY MY WOUNDS HAVE BEEN HEALED BECAUSE HE TOOK THE WOUNDS FOR ME. OH, HALLELUJAH. AREN'T YOU THANKFUL TO know tonight? I DIDN'T DESERVE MERCY. I I WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE DAVID. MY WOUNDS STINK. >> You see, in John the 20th chapter, there was one. There's always that one that couldn't understand this relationship. In John 20:1 19, it says, "Then the same day at the evening being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst and said to them, "Peace be unto you. The crucifixion's just taken place. The Jews have reassembled in hiding." rather the DISCIPLES have reassembled in hiding afraid that the Jews would also kill them. And when he had said so, he showed them his hands and his side. Jesus showed them the wounds that he had suffered that should have been permanent death in humanity. But he appeared to them. It says, "Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus unto them, peace be unto you, as my father sent me. Even so send I you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and saith UNTO THEM, "RECEIVE YE THE HOLY GHOST. A NEW DISPENSATION IS BEING USHERED IN." THERE'S A NEW DISPENSATION. A RESURRECTED SAVIOR IS NOW PRESENTING THE HOLY GHOST >> AND HE'S POURING IT OUT ON HIS DISCIPLES. HE BREATHED ON THEM. Receive ye the Holy Ghost. >> Whosoever sin you sins ye remit, they remitted unto them. Whosoever sins you retain, they are retained. But here's that one guy. There's always that guy. But Thomas, one of the 12 called Ditimus, was not with them when Jesus came. Don't be Aditimus. We may need T-shirts. Don't be Aditimus. Don't doubt the redeeming power and the Holy Ghost POWER AND THE SAVING POWER OF CHRIST IN YOUR LIFE. SO HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED. THE OTHER DISCIPLES THEREFORE SAID UNTO HIM, "WE have seen the Lord." Now, I mean, all of these events had taken place. Jesus has been crucified. He's been resurrected. He's he's appeared in them, but Ditimus, I, you know, I don't know what Ditimus was up to, but he he can you imagine all that was going on. and he missed the reassembling. And when they begin to tell him what had happened, HE SAID, "EXCEPT, I SHALL SEE IN HIS HANDS THE PRINT OF the I need to see his WOUNDS AND PUT MY FINGER in the print of THE NAILS AND THRUST MY HAND IN HIS SIDE. I will not believe." There's always going to be a doubting Thomas, Aditimus, that just can't believe that God wants to heal your wounds. You know what he had TO SUFFER THROUGH? FOR EIGHT DAYS, they were locked in that room in hiding. AND FOR EIGHT DAYS, THE DISCIPLES THAT WERE WITHIN kept tell Jesus has been here. I don't believe it. I'M TELLING YOU, WE SAW HIS HANDS. HE HE SHOWED US THE WOUNDS. I'm not going to believe unless I put my hands in it. >> And after eight days, again, his disciples were within and Thomas with him. THEN CAME JESUS, THE DOOR BEING SHUT. There was a supernatural appearance. He didn't need to walk through a door. The door was shut, but Jesus knew how to get in the house. And he STOOD IN THE MIDST AND SAID, "PEACE BE UNTO YOU." THEN SAID HE TO THOMAS, "Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hand." REACH HITHER THY HAND, and thrust it into my side, AND BE NOT FAITHLESS, BUT BELIEVING." AND THOMAS answered and SAID UNTO HIM, "MY LORD AND MY GOD." NOTICE THAT JESUS DIDN'T SAY, "I WANT YOU TO SEE MY FRESH SCARS." HE SAID, "I WANT YOU TO SEE MY FRESH WOUNDS." JESUS WAS WOUNDED SO WE WOULD HAVE SCARS. IT WAS FOR OUR HEALING. >> YOU CAN'T PUT YOUR FINGER IN A SCAR. IT HAD TO BE IN A FRESH WOUND. >> HE WASN'T SCARRED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS. HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS. >> Praise team musicians, get ready. The psalmist said, "For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me." Now again, you find this theme throughout Psalms. David will be joyous, joyous, then wounded. David will be up on the mountain and then just about to die. Up and down, up and down. I mean, the the passage we read as a text was just the 38th Psalm. I mean, uh we weren't even halfway there to the end. Time and time again, you'll find this in Psalms 147:3, he said, "He healed, he health he health he health he health he health he health he health he health he health he health he health rather the broken in heart and he bindeth up their wounds." You see, Jesus wants to heal your wounds tonight. I'm here to give a word, a positive statement. He said in Jeremiah 30, we read those issues. Verse 15, he says, "Why cries thou thou for thine affliction? Thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine INIQUITY BECAUSE THY SINS WERE INCREASED. I'VE DONE THESE things unto thee. The things you're GOING THROUGH IS BECAUSE OF YOUR SIN. THEREFORE, ALL THEY THAT DEVOUR THEE SHALL BE DEVOURED, and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity, and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, AND I WILL PRAY UPON THEE, and I will give for a pray. He said, deliverance is coming. Verse 17, he he says this, for I will restore HEALTH UNTO THEE. THIS IS MORE THAN A MEDICAL REPORT AND AN X-RAY. THIS IS TALKING ABOUT SPIRITUAL HEALTH. GOD WANTS TO RESTORE YOUR SPIRITUAL HEALTH TONIGHT. And I WILL HEAL THEE OF THY WOUNDS, SAYAETH THE LORD, BECAUSE THEY CALL THEE AN OUTCAST, SAYING, "THIS IS THINE, WHOM NO MAN SEETH AFTER." PAUL TOLD THE GALATIANS, "From henceforth, LET NO MAN TROUBLE ME, FOR I BEAR IN MY body the marks, the scars of the Lord Jesus." Stand with me. I take us one final wound that I'd call to your attention in the word. For you see, on the day of Pentecost, Peter would begin to preach about the death, burial, and resurrection. And you know what happened when Peter preached about the death, burial, and resurrection? The folks that were listening, the Bible says they were pricricked in their heart. Now, that's a wound, man. When you get hit in the heart, oh, that's a tough wound. THEY WERE PRICRICKED IN THEIR heart and they said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, MEN AND BRETHREN, WHAT SHALL WE DO? I'm wounded. I'm wounded in the heart. Please understand the spiritual significance of the statement. He's preached about the death, burial, and resurrection. It's been a message frankly of condemnation of uh of people because the Jews had been published and publicized and they were the ones who had crucified Jesus with the authority of Rome and the culture of Rome. But you see these men were so stirred and those present were so stirred. Bible says they were pricricked in their heart and they said what shall we do? How can I fix this wound? How can I get healing? Then Peter said unto them repent. Just say Jesus I'm sorry. JESUS I'M SORRY FOR MY SIN. REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF YOUR SINS. HE SAID HERE'S THE THIS IS THE SIMPLE REMEDY. YOU WANT YOUR WOUND TO BE HEALED. YOU'VE BEEN PRICRICKED IN THE HEART. REPENT OF YOUR SINS. BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE WASHING AWAY. WE'RE GOING TO CLEANSE THAT WOUND AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. YOUR HEART'S GOING TO BE HEALED BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE FILLED WITH THE POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST. I know not your situation. Praise team, come. I know not your situation. I know not your wound in this house. But I'm here to tell you, Jesus wants to heal every wound. If you have anything that's been troubling you, if you have anything that's been a trial and a test, I'm going to open the altar for you. But as you come, I'm also going to ask everybody that's got a scar to step out and come with you and say, "God, thank you for my scars. Thank you for your healing. Would you step out right now? Whether it be in thanks or in need, would you step out and gather around the altar for a season of prayer? God, heal our wounds. Lord, thank you for our scars. Hallelujah. Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. Hallelujah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
