Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

As at Other Times Before

  • The text is read from Judges 16: Delilah, paid by the lords of the Philistines, makes Samson sleep upon her knees and has the seven locks of his head shaved off, and his strength goes from him.
  • He awakes and says, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself — and he wist not that the Lord was departed from him; the saddest condition is not knowing God is no longer with you.
  • Samson's fall was gradual, not instant: reeds, then new ropes, then the weaving of his locks — each time he came closer to revealing the secret of his strength, fellowshipping with the enemy and growing careless with his Nazerite vows.
  • There is a difference between consistency and predictability, between fresh anointing and rancid oil, between fresh fire and cold ashes; God will not forever reward lethargy or protect the apathetic who take his mercies for granted.
  • Proverbs is quoted for the old paths: fear thou the Lord and the king, and meddle not with them that are given to change, for their calamity shall rise suddenly.

Scriptures: Judges 16:18-20; Proverbs 24:21-22

The Shaking That Works

  • Our victory is not in our shake: the preacher reads 2 Thessalonians 2 — be not soon shaken in mind, or troubled; let no man deceive you, for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first.
  • The only shaking that works is the shaking of the Holy Ghost, as in Acts 4, when they prayed and the place was shaken where they were assembled together and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.
  • We cannot manufacture the move of God by our talent, our displays, or our emotion; the Holy Ghost has to do the shaking, and he does it for a people committed and strong in their vows.

Scriptures: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3; Acts 4:31

The Shout Did Not Save Them

  • In 1 Samuel 4, Israel, smitten before the Philistines, fetches the ark of the covenant from Shiloh, and all Israel shouts with a great shout so that the earth rings again — and the Philistines, who understand what the ark means, are afraid.
  • But the shout alone did not bring victory, and having the ark did not bring victory, because there was sin in the leadership: Huff and Phineas, the sons of Eli, were slain, the ark was taken, and the child born that day was named Icabad — the glory is departed from Israel.
  • Other assumed-power stories are priced as warnings in the same movement: the disciples who could not cast out the spirit for unbelief, and the seven sons in Acts, self-appointed exorcists who tried to use the name of Jesus and of Paul, until the spirit answered — Jesus I know, Paul I know, but who are you — and the man jumped on them and they fled wounded and naked.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 4:3-11

Departing Without Knowing It

  • First Timothy's latter-times warning is expounded: some shall depart from the faith, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron — and many who have departed do not even realize they have departed.
  • Against the haughty, careless spirit of Samson, the psalmist's word is set: the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
  • The mighty men of David are told over as the positive contrast — one named Jashubim lifting up his spear against 300, Eleazar standing in the barley field, the brother of Joab lifting up his spear against 300, and another going down to slay a lion in a pit on a snowy day (the chapter is announced for paraphrase, and priced as paraphrase in the refs receipt).

Scriptures: 1 Timothy (book-only, as spoken); Psalms (book-only, as spoken)

With All Thy Might

  • Deuteronomy is quoted: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord — and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
  • Ecclesiastes 9:10 is read again, as it was quoted in the morning: whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.
  • The close is a determination, not a confession of weakness: don't take the call, the blessings, the marriage, or the children for granted; step to the altar and be made new and fresh in him every day.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Ecclesiastes 9:10

Well, Lord bless you. You may move to your seats. We greet you once again in that all powerful, lovely, mighty name of Jesus. I join with the voices that have spoken before me by welcoming all to First Apostolic Church on this Sunday evening. So glad to see you here worshiping with us. We greet those who are joining on us on the many multimedia platforms. Thank you for worshiping with us and we hope that you can be in service with us at your first opportunity. I would also uh join with uh the voices of Pastor Whitley and Bishop Mcool of saying welcome to all of our guests that are here. Thank you for worshiping with us. And again, one one more time so glad to have the boss family with us. Uh these folks met them for the first time. Feel like I've known them forever. Dear friends already and we're honored to have you folks worshiping with us tonight and all guests. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for being with us. I would give a bit more insight. Uh as Bishop already told you, we're praying for Pastor Anthony, Sister Kelly, uh for Eleanor and Callaway. Uh they journeyed uh to one of our uh ALJC churches in St. Martin and uh they are uh there for a youth convention. uh they asked Pastor Anthony, of course, in his capacity as our national youth secretary. He is preaching their youth convention at uh the Reema Apostolic Fellowship. And uh lest anyone would think, well, hey, uh brother and sister Mcool Anthony and Kelly got got away for a quick vacation. I found out that he was preaching six times in three days. Uh, so, uh, I'm, uh, expecting great reports, but I don't call that a vacation. He's working and, uh, God's going to give them, uh, souls for their labor. And I ask our church family, uh, to continue praying. Uh, he's supposed to have his first service uh, tonight about 7:30 and then they have a service uh, day and night, Monday and Tuesday. So let's please remember them in prayer that God would give them souls for their labor. And I'll say uh after hearing that message today, has anybody redeemed in the house? Has anybody been set free? H have you have you been off of the rubbish pile? Are you able to be part of that wall now? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Pastor Whitley, for a mighty message and a mighty move of God this morning. Thank you for thrilling our souls and giving encouragement. And I want to take just a moment uh to give honor where honor is due and give testimony where testimony is due. Uh, this guy doesn't do any uh uh solos and doesn't like being out front, but I want to brag on one of our cameramen because God did a special work. Brother Dax is down here. Scared him to death already. I'm not going to have you sing tonight. Don't worry. Uh but he uh behind the scenes is one of the young men that help uh uh with our camera uh uh work and our production that's gone online and helps get the gospel out there to all. Uh he was playing baseball on Friday night, I believe it was, and a uh unfortunate accident took place. A batter swung the bat. The bat slipped out of his hands, flew right into the dugout where he was or the area he was and hit him in the head. That's not healthy. I promise you. And by most accounts, he should have been injured terribly or at the very least had a concussion and and and in concussion protocol, but instead he had a couple of stitches and he's still as handsome as ever. Didn't do any damage there. And I talked to his mama, the the the two teams, some of them people that didn't even know the Lord, gathered around him and prayed with him. And who knows what God might have done through that incident. Brother Dax, I'm praising the Lord that God's hand of protection was on you. He sends his holy angels to protect us. And I'm thanking the Lord that we have a good report tonight. So I gave you a testimony for you tonight if that's all right. Calling your attention this evening to the book of Judges, the 16th chapter. I want us to get right into the word. The book of Judges, the 16th chapter. We're going to read a couple of three verses of a story that most of us are familiar with. Book of Judges, the 16th chapter, beginning with verse number 18. It reads, "And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up at this once, for he hath showed me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. And she made him sleep upon her knees. She called out a man. She caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head. She began to afflict him and his strength went from him. And she said, "The Philistines be upon thee, Samson." And he awoke out of his sleep and said, Please notice this. I will go out as at other times before and shake myself and he wish not that the Lord was departed from him. I would talk to you for a few moments this evening on this subject at as at other times before. As at other times before let's pray. Savior, I love you and I'm grateful for the opportunity to speak your word tonight. Lord, I know it is forever settled and anointed. But Lord, I pray that you would touch these lips of clay that we may speak, that we may be your mouthpiece, Lord, not of my ability, but Lord, let me be available to you to speak to all of us through your word and to touch our hearts. Let us receive and act on your word. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. As at other times before, the story goes that there was a man who had a very nice home and he lived there for 20 plus years, but it only had one slight fallacy. The home was in close proximity just a couple of hundred feet from the railroad tracks and a railroad crossing. And for 20 years, every night or morning actually at 4:30 a.m. the train would go through and when it approached that crossing and intersection, the train would blow its whistle loudly. But the man had lived there for 20 plus years. But the story goes that one night the train was involved in an accident and didn't make the schedule. So at 4:30 nothing happened and the man awoke out of a deep sleep and said, "What was that?" Let that sink in a minute. He had become so accustomed to the sound of the train whistle when it didn't blow it woke him up. There are some things we just get used to. Things we assume will always be that way. Things yes, we eventually take for granted. But please be reminded when it comes to serving God, if we do not do our part, there are things that will not be as at other times before. There's a difference in consistency and predictability. There's a dist a difference in fresh anointing and rancid oil. There's a difference in stale bread and fresh hot loaves. There's a difference in fresh fire and cold ashes. There's a difference in innovative improvement and the status quo. A difference in the mundane and the extraordinary. Yes. And a difference in a progressive church and a static unmoved church. In baseball, when it comes to the skill of pitching, that thing that they say makes the fast ball of most pitchers even more effective is something called the change up. If the pitcher masters the ability to throw the ball with his maximum velocity, it may be anywhere from 90 to 100 miles per hour. But if he throws that all the time, the good batters eventually are able to time it and can hit the pitch no matter its velocity. But when he can back up occasionally and throw a curve ball or throw a change up, suddenly the fast ball becomes that much more effective because the batter knows not what to expect. For sure. Samson had found himself assuming that God would always rescue him and cover him even in disobedience as he had been in other times before. Now understand variety is the spice of life some say. And yes the Bible does tell us Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. He said I change not. However, God has dealt with mankind in different dispensations in completely different ways. But it is a universal fact and understanding. If we fail to keep up our prayer life, our commitment to God, if we lose the fresh excitement of serving him and being obedient to the covenants that we have made with him, God will not forever reward lethargy. He will not forever bring his grace to protect the apathetic and the uncaring. Those who become careless with their call. Too late we can find ourselves vulnerable to the enemy and defeated without God's power. Please understand the context of the statement. know that this preacher is not advocating change from the old paths of holiness and righteousness. In fact, Proverbs told us this, "My son, fear not the Lord and the kings, and meddle not with them that are given to change, for their calamity shall rise suddenly, who knoweth the ruin of them both." But I am here to remind us that God gave Samson many victories because of Samson's obedience to his Nazerite vows. They were unusual vows. They weren't for everyone. But there had been evil in the leadership of God's people. And God had given this child to Samson's family. And there was an unusual vow that he would take, the Nazerite vow, that no razor would touch his head. But there were other disciplines that went along with it. He could take or partake rather of no fruit of the vine, no wine, no grape juice, no vinegars. He also was to refrain from any way making himself impure by having any contact with corpses or the grave, including those of family members at a time of death. But here was Samson's real story in a nutshell. Samson was a He-Man with a she problem. That's the real truth of the matter. Samson in his early days would have many great victories for God's people even though they were oppressed by the Philistines. Time and time again he would move the gate of the city and put it on a hill. He would give riddles to the Philistine leaders and and would cause them to uh have to give him cloaks until the wife that he married that was of the Philistines would violate their trust and reveal his secret to his enemies. His parents even told him said, "Can't you find a wife among our people?" But as I said, Samson was a he man with a sheep problem. He desired the women of the occupiers, the Philistines. And you know again much of the story for Samson after that first wife would actually be her and her father killed and burned by the Philistines for even having any cooperation with Samson. Eventually Samson would meet Delilah. And buddy, when she said, "Sammy, baby," he was hooked. And Samson began the dangerous game of becoming careless and cavalier with his call. It wasn't it wasn't an instant fall, but it was a gradual weakening. It was a gradual dropping his standards. It was a gradual just giving in to temptation. For immediately when the relationship with Delilah blossomed, she began constantly questioning him, "Where does your strength lie?" But she was really asking, "What is your weakness?" And Samson began by carelessly getting closer and closer to revealing the truth of his secret. Now, understand if if you read, and I I will not take the time to read it all to you in Judges. You can you can go back and get the details for yourself. You'll find his first mistake was he began fellowshipping with the enemy. We can learn a lot from that statement alone. When we find ourselves comfortable fellowshipping with the enemy, we are making ourselves more vulnerable than ever to the attack of the enemy. Now, in our original text, it said this. And when that Laya saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines. Could I warn us all? You need to be careful with what you confess with your mouth. Now, I realize I'm not spitting and sweating tonight. We might get in high gear later, but I hope you're listening to what the preacher saying. You need to be cautious of what you speak and what you proclaim with your mouth. I want you to understand God alone understands our thoughts and the intents of our heart. Satan does not have that privilege. Satan does not know what you're thinking. But Satan listens good. He can hear what you confess with your mouth. It's my own personal theology. So don't try to quote this as book but I believe there's a great correlation between the evidence of the Holy Ghost the initial evidence of being speaking with tongues because I believe that's a talk with you and the Lord that the enemy would like to hear what's going on and he can't understand it because you and the Lord are having your own conversation and he's coming into you. So you can take that for what it's worth. But the enemy does not read your mind, but he hears your your statements. And if you go around constantly proclaiming bad, if you go around constantly proclaiming evil, if you go around constantly confessing weakness, the enemy says, "Uh-huh. That's what it is. That's what I'll put in their way. That's the temptation." Now, hear me. Sadly, I have heard folks make statements like this. Well, I'm not going to backslide, but if I ever did, here's what I would backslide over. Don't say that. The enemy is listening. And he will make that very thing that you confess available to you for temptation if you aren't careful. You see, Samson didn't start out confessing what was really the source of weakness. and his strength at the same time. But eventually, the Bible says he had told her all his heart. Don't confess your weaknesses to anyone but the Lord and do that in your prayer time of getting close to him. But after he fellowshipped with the enemy a while, Delilah pressed him and said, "Oh, if you loved me, you would. You better be careful when the enemy tells you they love you." Said it before, but I'll repeat it. A grizzly bear may hug you, don't mean he loves you. You may look like lunch. Do not find yourself confessing anything that the enemy can use against you. He first said when she pressed him, "Well, here's the source of my strength." He said, "If you'll bind me with new reads or widths, I'll be as other men." She said, "Sleep tight, Sammy. Let let me let me get you to sleep." And of course, you know the story what she did. She immediately bound him. Now, he might have had muscles, but it sounds like a lot of them were between his ears to me. When she did the very thing that would he had told would be his weakness as soon as she had the opportunity, she said, "The Philistines be upon you." And he jumped up and broke the reeds and shook himself. and his strength was there. And she began turning on the tears. You don't love me. You didn't reveal. Time and time again, it happened. She said, "If you really cared about me, you'll reveal this." He said, "Well, bind me with new ropes." Went to sleep. You guessed it. She bound him with new ropes. You know it. But he began a steady decline, getting closer and closer to revealing the real weakness. It started out with reeds, then it went to ropes, but now he got a little closer. He said, "If you'll weave the locks of my hair." Got a little closer. She weaved again. She told him the Philistines were upon him. woke up and shook himself. So we come to where we are. She He finally told her all his heart. The Philistines paid her off. She put him back to sleep. His head was shaved. And she said, "The Philistines be upon thee, Samson." He awoke out of his sleep and said, "I will go out as at other times before and shake myself." Let me tell you, a longsuffering God that we're serving many times has been so gracious because of our mistakes. It was so aptly and beautifully preached today. But let me also remind us when we become careless with the wonderful mercies that he's given us. When we become cavalier with the vows that we've made before him. When we start taking for granted his strength as our strength. When we think the might of God and the victories of God are our victories alone. and we make false assumptions that our personal might and abilities were the key to any successes we had against the enemy. The the results will be us having a false sense of security and we'll find ourselves awakened thinking things are always going to be like they were before. Hear me. If you reveal your weakness and give your weakness over to the enemy and allow yourselves to fall to temptation, there will be a time that the mercies of God can't step in. When you're trying to handle things yourself, God help us when we think it's our abilities, it's our excellence. singer, preacher, musician, technician, worker, teacher, on and on. Never mistake, it's not your abilities. It's the power of God that's been working through you because you made a commitment and you made a vow a long time ago. You keep that vow. Don't let down. Don't give it away. Instead, be fresh and new every day. Samson could have been the victor all the time, but he found himself yielding to the temptation and revealing his weakness. Yes, we condemn and rightfully so the actions of Samson. However, I see too many apathetic, lethargic, and uncaring who have been granted great strength and victories of God and have covenanted with him. If our services become as at other times before, if my praise becomes as at other times before, if my commitment becomes as at other times before, I will expose myself in weakness to the enemy. Notice what he did when he was awakened. The first thing he did, he got up and he shook himself. I'm sure that was an intimidating move by this hulk of a man, this muscular giant. Anytime the Philistines had attacked before, he would find himself shaking himself and causing them to shake. But let me tell you, our victory is not in our shake. Let me say that again. Our victory is not in our shape. 2 Thessalonians 2:1 says, "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together in him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind or troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letters as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means. For that day shall not come except there come a falling away first that the man of sin be revealed and the son of predition. Let me tell you the apostolic Pentecostal Jesus name movement has got a lot of shake in it. The Holy Ghost does the shaking. We can't do the shaking when we think it's in our emotional displays. When we think it's because of our talent and our abilities and we think it's our shaking take place. I'm here to tell you the only shaking that works is the shaking of the Holy Ghost like happened in Acts the third the fourth chapter when they prayed. The Bible says the place was shaken when they were all assembled together and they were filled with the Holy Ghost. The only shaking that's going to work is a shaking of the Holy Ghost. We've got to let the Holy Ghost come into every service we have. We can't find one time that we're manipulating things. The Holy Ghost has got to do the shaking. [Applause] I like I said I wasn't going to yell and spit. I didn't mean to tell a story. We can go back and review too many times how God has stepped in into service after service and a mighty move of the Holy Ghost has taken place. It's the most beautiful thing to be in a conference or a camp meeting or a a special worship service when the Holy Ghost just takes over and the shakina glory of the Holy Ghost fall and there's a shaking that takes place and it's going to happen again. But we can't bring it. The Holy Ghost has got to bring it. The only way we can bring it is letting the Holy Ghost take over us being committed and being strong. It can't be our shaking. It's got to be the Holy Ghost doing the shaking. You see, I hate to break it to us. It's not even in our shout. You know, I believe in shouting, lifting your voice unto the Lord. But if you would recall in 1 Samuel the 4th chapter, God's people again because of sin in their leadership. Eli had grown old. Eli the prophet, his sons Hoffni and Phineas had corrupted the leadership position. They lay with women at the gates of the temple. The Bible tells us they greedily took of the sacrifices that the people brought unto God. And because of this, Israel would go into battle and would lose a great battle again with the Philistines. And you know what they did when this happened? When they lost a battle, they said, "Let's go fetch the ark." That's that's the words the Bible uses. The Bible said, "Let's go fetch the ark." Now, my first question is this. Why did they ever go into battle in the first place without the ark? Why did they have to go get the ark? I've got news for you. The ark represented the covenant. The ark was undefeated. But for some reason, they felt like they could go into battle without the ark. But when they lost the people, the Bible says in 1st Samuel 4:3, "And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said,"Wherefore, if the Lord smitten us today before the Philistines, let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of Shiloh unto us, and when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hands of the enemies." So the people went to Shiloh that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the host which dwelt between the cherubams. And the two sons of Eli, Hoffn, and Phineas were there with the ark of the covenant. And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all all Israel shouted with a great shout so that the earth rang out. Uh-huh. We got it now. We got the ark back. Whoop! Let's have a shout. You know, I'm not against shouting, but unqualified shouting will not bring victory any more than unqualified shaking will bring victory. Notice now it intimidated the Philistines for a moment. For we read, and when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What mean that the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews?" and and they understood that the ark of the Lord was come into the camp. The enemy understood more about what was going on than those people really did. The Philistines were afraid for they said, "God has come into the camp." And they said, "Woe unto us, for there hath not been such a thing here unto here to four. Woe unto us who shall deliver us out of the hands of these mighty gods. These are the gods that smoke the Egyptians with all their plagues in the wilderness." Oh, they had a reputation of victory in the past. But notice what scripture says to the Philistines. Be strong. Quit yourselves like men, oh ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews as they have been to you. Quit yourselves and like men and fight. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent. And there was a very great slaughter for their fell of Israel, 32,000 footmen. The shout alone didn't bring victory. Having possession of the ark didn't bring victory because there was sin among them. Hear me tonight. If we aren't careful, we can think that there's some automatic things that God's just going to always do and we can be a sinful lot of people. Let sin never enter in among us. The shake won't fix it. The ark won't fix it. A shout won't fix it. In fact, here's what happened. I'll paraphrase again. You can read it all in 1st Samuel 4 for yourself. The Philistines took the ark. That thing that represented the covenant between God's people and him. Huff and Phineas, the sons of Eli, were slain. When the news came to Eli that they'd been slain and most of all that the ark had been taken, Bible said he was very old. Where he was seated, he fell off backwards and broke his neck and died. And on top of that, his grandson to be was about to be born. Phenia's wife was with child and the child was born during the destruction in the siege and she would die in childbirth and as she died they said what's his name going to be and she said his name shall be Icabad saying the glory is departed from Israel three generations cursed because they think they thought things would always be just as before. Scripture is filled with those who assumed that the power of God did not have any reciprocal requirements for those who had that power. Remember when the disciples could not heal the man whose son was a lunatic? Jesus came in, called him a faithless and perverse generation. He said, "I'm not going to always be with you." He said, "You're going to have to figure this out." He cast the spirit out. And he said, "This kind can't take place or cometh not." He said, "First of all, you couldn't do it because of your unbelief. He didn't believe what you what you were speaking and he said it can't happen without fasting and prayer. Remember in Acts the seven sons ofKeva who were self-appointed exorcist they thought they could use the name of Paul in the name of Jesus to cast out an evil spirit. They went to this guy that had the evil spirit and said uh in the name of Jesus who Paul preaches we're going to cast you out. And the spirit spoke to the man and said, "Jesus, I know. Paul, I know, but who are you?" He jumped on him and gave him a good whooping. Bible said they they ran left wounded and naked. Let me tell you, don't assume that things are going to be just like they were before if we don't do our part. If we don't stay strong. If we Oh, I hope you feel my heart tonight because we're going someplace. This is not negative. I promise you. But it's a reminder and a warning to us all. Because in the passage that we read as our text, the most difficult part of the situation was this. Here's the three things he said. He said, "I will go out as at other times before." He said, "I will shake myself." But the saddest part was this. and he wished not that the Lord was departed from him. The saddest thing of all is to find yourself in a condition that you don't even know that God is no longer with you. First Timothy talked about in latter times that the there would be those who depart from the faith. Sadly, I see many who have departed from the faith and they realize they do not even realize they have departed from the faith. Oh, I I don't have to have all of that stuff they used to teach. I just believe that the uh the uh uh skies are my church. And and and if you just are good to everybody, everything's going to be all right. And everybody, the God we serve, he's so loving and caring. No one could be lost. There's ultimate restoration. Pastor Whitley preached about real restoration today. That yes, God takes broken lives and restores and makes us walls builders. But the folks who say that everything goes, there's no commitment unto God, scripture said they speak lies and hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron. They find themselves not even realizing the depths of sin. You don't know how far down you can go if you don't stay close to the Lord. But I do not leave us in this state. For I would remind us that here's the spirit that the Lord is looking for. Not a hotty spirit like Samson. Not a careless spirit like Samson. The psalmist said it this way. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, oh God, thou will not despise. Do I know how to have a broken spirit? Or do I go through the motions? Have I assumed that things are going to be always as they were before? Let me head near close by comparing and contrasting all of those negative things that we've talked about at this point to some positive people. In the book of 1 Coronicles, the 11th chapter, you can begin reading, and again, I'll paraphrase rather than giving you scripture and verse. When the Bible began talking about David's mighty men who had strengthened themselves with the kingdom and with all Israel to make David king according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel. There was one named Jashubim. The Bible said he lifted up his spear against 300 slain by him at one time. Those don't sound like pretty very good odds to me. 300 to one. But let me tell you, when God's for you, who can be against you? I'm here to tell you, if we will be mighty in the Lord, if we will keep our commitment strong, God's going to give us victories that we can't imagine, numbers of victories against the enemy. It took some special determination. I've got a feeling that Jessobim wasn't halfheartedly going into battle. He went into battle by himself and defeat defeated 300. Eleazar was with David. The Bible says, "And the Philistines were gathered together in battle where there was a parcel full of ground full of barley. And all the people began to run from the Philistines. The Philistines were coming to steal their crop. And the Bible says that David and Eleazar set themselves in the midst of the parcel and delivered it. Let me tell you, there's going to be some attacks that take place. If you're committed to God, you need to set yourself right in the middle of that thing and say, "Devil, come on. Somebody's got my back. David's on this side. Eleazar's on this side. Come on, devil. We're going to look. You're not by yourself. If we'll stay faithful to God, if we'll pray, we'll fast, we'll have proper worship, we'll have proper shakens, suddenly we're going to find ourselves victorious. We will be mighty men and women in the kingdom of God. The Bible said Aishi, the brother of Joab, this is another mighty man, lifted up his spear against 300. He slew them and had a name among the three. Praise team musicians, get ready. Then I want to tell you about Beniah, the son of Jebodiah. The Bible said he had many acts. And it said he slew two lionlike men of Moab. And he also went down and slew a lion in a pit on a snowy day. Now think about that. All we who are involved in Christian education, school, I'm not just talking about the students. I'm talking about the teachers. Let me tell you, we do get excited about that snow day excuse every once in a while. Don't tell me you're not up checking the bulletins on the news for Knox County Schools and Apostolic Christian School. We like those occasional days off, but the reason that takes place is because it's a dangerous time on the roads. It's better off to just let the snow melt. But let me tell you, Beniah said, "We're not taking a snow day today. There's a line needs to be defeated, and I'm going down in the pit with that line on a snowy day." and I'm going to win. Oh God, give me that kind of determination. Don't let me take the call that you give given me for granted. Lord, don't let me take your blessings for granted. Lord, don't let me take my marriage for granted. Don't let me take my children for granted. You've given me so much. Lord, don't let me become as Samson that I take for granted and I get careless with my call. Let me be mighty in you today. Stand with me. Deuteronomy said it this way here. O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God. How? Ah, when I just feel like it. Ah, right after I got a raise. No, I I'm going to love the Lord with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my might. However much might I have, I'm going to give it all to the Lord. How am I going to love him? I'm going to show my love to him. I'm going to work in his kingdom. I'm going to fulfill his call. Brother Whitley quoted it and I'll read it again. Ecclesiastes 9:10. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might. First Apostolic Church, if there's ever been a group of folks that I've ever been around, may I compliment you because when you decide to do something, you do it with all your might. If we're going to have a Christian school, we're going to do it with everything that's in us. I read an article here a while back about the danger in having too many tenured people of employment and it talked about how they get apathetic, lethargic and sit in their ways and are afraid of any kind of improvement. We're not going to be that way. We're not changing the gospel. We're not changing the message, but we're going to improve. We're going to be innovative in everything we do. I'm not going to be a saint that says, "Bless God, I've been in the way 40 years." That may be the problem. You've been in the way. I'm going to say, "God, I want to thank you for a 40-year experience or a 50-year experience, but every day is going to be new and fresh. I'm not going to find myself revealing some weakness to the enemy that I would be tempted. Instead, I'm going to stay strong in you. I'm going to be mighty. I'm going to be mighty to the tearing down of strongholds. Let me ask you tonight, if there's any in this house that still want to be mighty in the kingdom of God and want to have fresh fire and fresh anointing, I would ask you to step out for a season of prayer, would you step out and come around the altar and would you pray this prayer? God, I'm determined to be new and fresh in you in every day. My effort will be the best I have. Lord, I'm going to give you all I've got, Lord. Whatever ability I have, I'm going to use it for you, Lord. Whatever talent you've given me, God, I want to use it for you with my might, with my soul, with all my heart. Could you come praise him? Could you love him right now? Let's sing unto the Lord. Hallelujah. Yes, Lord. Turn it for good. Yeah. Yeah. Turn it for good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. You take what the enemy meant for you. Would you turn it? Turn it for good. For good. You turn it for good. Oh, you take you take the enmy. Oh, you turn it. You turn it for good. You turn it for good. You turn it for good. Hey. Hey. [Music] You turn the enemy meant for evil. And you turn it for good. You turn it for good. You turn it. You take what the enemy for evil and you turn it. Turn it for good. You turn it for good. [Applause] [Music] You turn it for good. You turn it for good. You take what the enemy's meant for you. Turn it. Turn it. Turn it. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to see a victory. Hey, I'm going to see a victory. For the battle belongs to you, Lord. Hey, are you going to see victory in your life? You turn it, turn it, turn it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Victory. I'm going to see a victory. The battle belongs to you to you, Lord. I'm going to see a victory. I'm going to see a victory. For the battle belongs to you, Lord. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Would you go from this place tonight victorious in the kingdom of the Lord? Would you once again recent yourself to say, "I'm not going to confess weakness, but I'm going to confess the strength of the Lord in my life. I'm going to be victorious in every endeavor because I'm mighty in him.
