Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

We Still Have This Ministry

  • Seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; we have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth.
  • If our gospel is hid, it is hid to them that are lost, in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not; for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
  • He preached from this passage in 2023 under the title 'We Have This Ministry'; tonight the subject is 'We Still Have This Ministry.'
  • He tells of directing a camp meeting choir in Indiana, where the praise grew so loud that a state trooper came with a noise complaint, and Brother David Ball, an attorney, answered from a state supreme court ruling and would not promise to get any quieter.

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 4:1-5

Called to Be Saints, at Home

  • Your first calling is to be a saint; no one can take a place as pastor, musician, or greeter in God's order who is not first a saint, and no one should ever say, 'I'm just a saint.'
  • He gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry; some give by going and others go by giving, but there must be a home church to send and support them.
  • There is one body and one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in you all; and unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
  • He tells how this church, when it stood on 123 West Columbia, gave to build churches in the Philippines for missionary Carlos Grant, and how decades later, preaching in the Philippines with Pastor Anthony, he met one of Grant's converts, nearly ninety years old and still serving.

Scriptures: Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Corinthians 1:1-3; Ephesians 4:4-7

Faithfulness, Loyalty, and Joy

  • It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not; they are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
  • Teach your children loyalty by being loyal: Brother Wilson refused his softball coach a Wednesday-night tournament because Wednesday night is when he goes to church.
  • Renounce the grasshopper mentality of the ten spies; when God is on our side, we are not in the minority.
  • Let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not; most of the weariness blamed on the work of God comes from everything else.
  • The kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost; whatever your place in this ministry, singing, coaching, cleaning, or teaching, do it with joy.

Scriptures: Lamentations 3:22-24; Galatians 6:9; Romans 14:17-18

The Spirit of Faith, and Being Born Again

  • We which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh; so then death works in us, but life in you.
  • We have the same spirit of faith: I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak, knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also; for all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might redound to the glory of God.
  • He honors Sister Peggy Bennett, who has taught little ones for as long as he can remember and for decades has mailed cards to her Sunday school children, a ministry heaven alone will fully record.
  • No one joins this ministry; you must be born into it, born again, as Nicodemus heard: except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God; you repent of your sins, are baptized in the name of Jesus, and are filled with the Holy Ghost.
  • Peter's promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off; and the first church continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers, and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
  • Ministry begins at home: as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
  • God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments; not all are apostles, and the helpers minister as truly as any, like Brother Keith, who faithfully helps his pastor and locks up the building at night.

Well, glory. I'm going to let you move to your seats. You know, several years ago, I had the privilege of directing a camp meeting choir up in the great state of Indiana. We were at Lake Placid Campground. It appeared to be out in the middle of nowhere. There's a beautiful lake that surrounded the edge of the campground. And way across the lake, you could see some lights that were dwelling places, but way on the other side of the lake. Well, one night we were getting ready to have church. We went through our choir practice and I had the privilege of directing that song that we sing around here sometimes that says, "I put it all in his hands." We started the service singing all his in his hands and folks started putting things in the Lord's hands and the Holy Ghost fell and the place got loud. I said the place got loud. >> Now understand volume alone is not worship and praise. I get it. But neither is quiet necessarily reverence. you know, dead sometimes quiet. But something happened after our service continued with the great praise and excitement. After over an hour, there was a state trooper, an Indiana state trooper, pulled up in the campground and he got out and he came to the director of the camp, which was none other than brother David Ball, brother Matthew Ball's father, and he said, "Sir, we've got a complaint from across the other side of the make. He said, "Y'all are too loud." Now, Brother Ball was a marvelous preacher and man of God, but I didn't tell you he was also an attorney at law in the state of Indiana. To the officer, he replied, "Sir, do you have a decibel meter with you?" The officer said, "What?" Well, no. Brother Ball said, 'Well, the state supreme court ruled that after a concert that was held in Indianapolis, that an acceptable level, decel level was thus and so. and uh he begins citing the particular numbers and uh the particular ruling that the state supreme court has made. You could see that the the officer realized that uh he had no authority to tell us we were too loud. So the officer trying to negotiate just a bit, he said, 'W will you promise not to get any louder? To which brother Ball said, "Absolutely not." He said, "We may get louder. We may shout and we may be here all night, but we're going to worship the Lord." Let me tell you, if Nen Stadium is worried about getting the decibel level up, if the concerts in our city is, I make no apology that sometimes it's loud in the house. We have church. We praise the Lord. We're not loud to be loud, but sometimes something just boils up inside me. The power of the Holy Ghost moves and manifests itself as we lift our voice, as we sing, as we praise. So, thank you, praise team. It might get loud even again for before this service is over. Calling your attention this evening to the book of 2 Corinthians, the 4th chapter. I want to read five verses. 2 Corinthians 4, beginning at verse number one. I would say thank you Pastor Anthony for a marvelous wakeup call this morning. Thank you for a marvelous message. Thank you Pastor Whitley for wonderful word in our absence last weekend and on Wednesday night Bible teaching as well. Incredible. Thank you. What a marvelous job. We're blessed beyond measure to have uh such mighty warriors of the word that's teaching and preaching to us. Thank you so much. First, excuse me, 2 Corinthians 4 beginning with verse number one. Therefore, seeing we have this ministry. Everyone say this ministry. As we have received mercy, we faint not, but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, not handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it's hid to them that are lost, and whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants, for Jesus sake. In 2023, I preached a message from this very passage that I entitled, we have this ministry. We were getting ready for our summit fair and I preached from this passage. So tonight, if you would indulge me by the help of the Lord, I want to preach to you on this subject. We still have this ministry. We still have this ministry. Let's pray. Father, we're grateful for your presence that we feel now and for the manifestation of power that we've already experienced. Lord, I thank you for receiving our praise. I thank you for the willing servants in this house that give all that they have unto you. And Lord, that you in return give us blessings and give us power and joy in you. Now, Lord, I pray that your word would minister mightily to us this night. Let all that we say and do give you glory. Let us receive your word into our heart and act and do the things you'd have us to do. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. And amen. We still have this ministry. Many indeed are searching for specifics of the call of God in their life. Spiritually earnest individuals seek direction for their lives. Devout, honest-hearted, sincere young people and not so young sometimes mistakenly feel that unless one relocates or moves to some foreign land, they cannot fulfill their ministry. Now, please understand I am completely in favor of World Missions and Missions America, Global Missions, North American Missions. These are things that we support and we give to and we support new churches both foreign and here in the United States. But I also want to remind the church family that God still calls pastors, evangelists, preachers, and teachers who are to be involved in their ministry here at home. We must certainly understand the difference between one's calling and one's gift. Ephesians said it this way. And he gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and some teachers for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. It has been said that some give by going and others go by giving. Some were called, some were sent, and yeah, some just got up and went. Still, others feel a call to just sit. But it is essential that we as the church understand that God still calls saints to be in this ministry. Now, if you think I'm a bit selfserving with this, I hope to preach to the church, lest some would feel they are not fulfilling their call nor using their gift unless they all go out from the church. Remember, if there was not a home church, there would be no World Missions and no Missions America to support those ministries. There must be a home church. Remember, yes, Paul visited many churches. He visited the church at Corenth. He visited the church at Ephesus. He There's a litany of churches named in the book of the Revelation, but those were churches where people stayed and worked and ministered in their community. So, please hear me tonight. I do not denigrate or put off anything with missions work or people being called. But I also want you to be comfortable to understand sometimes God calls people to be in their home church and work efficiently in the community that you've been placed in. >> Scripture uses the term rooted and grounded in the love of God. God also calls folks to be rooted and grounded in the church. In 1 Corinthians 1, we read this. Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God and Sustenth to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be saints. Your first calling is to be a saint. Let me say that again. Your first calling is to be a saint. You can't be a pastor unless you're a saint. You can't be a musician unless you're saint. You can't be a greeter unless you're a saint. The first call is to be saints. He said, sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints with all that is in every place, called upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours. Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Notice this passage does not say called to be just saints. I've told you before, but I remind you again. If the term just to you you becomes a self-deprecating marginalizing statement that denigrates your call and your gifts, you should remove just from your vocabulary. You should never say, "Well, I'm just a saint." Being a saint is a high calling in the kingdom of God. the saints of the church. Listen, I honor the saints of First Apostolic Church for your faithfulness, for your loyalty to this ministry, for we still have this ministry that we are involved with. This ministry for sermon's sake, I would refer to tonight as the ministries of First Apostolic Church. You see, we can unwittingly in our call to minister and to reach out encourage a weakening of the church to the point that there is no church. First Apostolic Church through the years has ministered to unto th untold throngs of people through missions. Few years ago, Pastor Anthony and I had the privilege of traveling to the Philippines and preaching at a Pacific Ministries conference. We flew into Manila and then took another plane into a community that I community that I can never pronounce. But we got there and they had an open air indoor slashoutdoor, which meant it's got a roof on it, but not a lot of walls, soccer and basketball arena. We got there and there were several hundred into the thousands of people that were there. The building was set up with uh plastic lawn chairs and that's what the seating was. And I want you to I want to tell you, you think it's hot in August in East Tennessee, you need to go to the Philippines once or twice. It was it was warm to say the least. And the people there, they had nothing of any interest, much to go home to. The services were quite lengthy. But something happened while we were there. In one of the services, they asked for the seniormost elder in that ministry to come forward and they wanted him to pray with the congregation. And I found it quite interesting. And there was a a gentle gentleman of considerable age who his steps were slow, but he came to the front of that great big arena. And they begin to tell about him. And as they told about him, they told his age. He was nearly 90 years old. But as they talked about him, they told that he was one of the first converts to a missionary who had been in the Philippines many years ago by the name of Carlos Grant. And when they said that, cold chills began running up and down my spine. For I remember well when we were on 123 West Columbia just as a small church that brother Carlos Grant had been in our services. This would have been in the late60s I guess and Carlos Grant was a missionary to the Philippines. And they had a program then that you could build a church in the Philippines for $300. And our church was one of the churches who then built a couple of churches in the Philippines. At that time, $300 was a great sacrifice in missions giving for us. But some decades later, I was now able to see someone that had come to the Lord from the missions giving of First Apostolic Church of Knoxville in the Philippines. I want you to know you as the church, you as the church family have reached literally around the world to minister. Tonight there's there's a church in Eagle Bin Apostolic Church in Clinton. There's First Apostolic Church of Mville. There were churches that were started as missions works from this assembly. Those things couldn't happen if all of you went someplace else. >> We have and we still have this ministry. Value what God has given you. Look around you and be thankful. Not with some ungodly pride, but thank God that he's put you in a place that we can pull our resources and minister to a lost world. >> You see, scripture says it this way. There's one body. This is in Ephesians 4. There's one body and one spirit. Even as you are called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in you all, but unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. We must understand the concept with God of a measure of grace according to the gift of God. Let me remind you, God will not call you without equipping you. Let me say that again. God will not call you without equipping you. Right. >> I have sadly seen too many who at the urging of flesh rather than spiritual guidance would step out from a church of great support for their own gifts and their famil family's provision and pick up a calling that really was not theirs. at the urging of someone meaning well but not truly giving guidance from God. I've seen some because of a fleshly desire rather than a spiritual call take their families and separate them from the support of a church that loves them and all the things that would help them mature and grow. And I've seen folks sacrifice their family on the altar of a misguided call that was not of God. Are you saying God does not call people? Of course I'm not. But folks are also called to be saints in the home church. Before you pull up your family and go someplace else and put them alone in a situation that there's not support for them, you better make sure that you have followed the call of God completely. Be thankful that we have and still have this ministry for the support of you and your family. >> Faithfulness and contentment and great gain. The term faithfulness is closely related to a term that we use, loyalty. Lamentations 3:22 said this, "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because his compassion fail not. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul. Therefore will I hope in him. Faithfulness and loyalty are closely related terms. Please hear me. You need moms and dads, teach your children to be loyal to the church. Thank you for that rousing support. Your family needs to know that Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night are the bare minimum that you're going to be at, not your pick and choose one service. You need to be in the house of God when there's church. Preacher, are you just wanting a crowd? You better know I'm wanting a crowd. I want you to get all that God's got for you. God has set forth some things to guide and direct you. You need to be consistent in your attendance to the house of God. If brother Wilson, don't tell a preacher anything unless you want him to tell it. I was sitting with brother Wilson at uh uh one of our school volleyball games and we were just talking and I asked him, now Brother Wilson is a little bit younger than me, just a little. But I asked him, I said, "Hey, are you still playing softball?" We used to play a lot of softball together. Uh I I I blame it on No. Uh and he said, "Yeah, I'm still playing." And I said, "Well," and he told me when he played, but he told me a little story, and I won't go into too many details, Brother Wilson, so I'll put your mind at ease. But the guy that's coaching their softball team, they had a a night that they play every week, but the guy came to him and he said, "Uh, hey, uh, we're gonna have a tournament this week and it's on Wednesday night and I need need you to be there on Wednesday night." Brother Wilson didn't bat an eye. He said, "Sir, I don't play on Wednesday night. That's when I go to church." Now, hear me. There's a lot of us if we aren't careful, we'll find our lives so busy. I'm just too busy to go to church. Think about what's keeping you out of being in the house of the Lord. Well, I've heard Bible study before. Oh, so you don't watch Andy Griffith reruns either, I bet. Let me tell you, when the doors are open, you need to be in the house of the Lord. You better make sure the things that are making you weary are not part of the church. Instead, it's those ancillary things that are meant to distract and pull you away from where you need to be. You need to be in the house of the Lord when the house of the Lord opens its doors. You need to en enjoy all that God's got for you. >> You want to teach your kids to be faithful, you be faithful. Teach your kids to be loyal to the church. If they're going to sing in the choir, they need to be here when there's choir practice. They need. And you know who brings them? You do. You see, there's some priorities that we must reestablish in our lives. We still have this ministry. >> He said, "Great is thy faithfulness." Let me ask you, how faithful and how loyal has God been to you? Do you reciprocate that? Or do you look for every opportunity to have a quote good excuse not to be in the house of the Lord? Let's examine from our original text some of the requirements for still being part of this ministry. 2 Corinthians 4:2 said, "But we have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God." There's some stuff we need to renounce. Now that term renounce means to formally declare one's abandonment of or to declare that one will no longer engage or support. There's some things that I just can't support because it interferes with my loyalty to the work of God, to the kingdom of God, and to God's house. It in in and of itself is not a sin. But if it draws me away from the church, it can become sin. You see, we need to renounce a few things. I submit we need to renounce what I call grasshopper mentality. When the 12 spies spied the promised land, 10 came back with a negative report. Yes, there was much plenty in the land, but they said there's giants in the land and we are as grasshoppers in their eyes and so we are in our eyes. Understand if we start comparing numbers to the world's numbers as the world sees numbers, we can develop grasshopper mentality. But I'm here to tell you, I'm not in the minority. I'm in the majority. Because when I've got God on my side, I'm a winner. Let me tell you, don't worry about the world's numbers, the world's size. Worry about the church being what it should be in our community, in the kingdom of God. We need to renounce grasshopper mentality. He said, "We've renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully." We are not called to fool people into coming to church. We are called to win the lost. We're not called to create pet doctrines and deceitful doctrines that are self arandizing and self-serving. This is not the Mark Mcool ministry. This is the ministry of First Apostolic Church. It's not about an individual. It's about Christ. And that's what we're selling. There's nothing better than to lead folks to the Lord and let them understand just how important it is to turn their life over to the Lord. And then I say we need to renounce weariness. But brother Mcool, I'm so tired. Well, something reason some folks are tired, they get up and growl all day. That means your dog tired, don't it? Galatians 6 and9 said, "And let us not be weary in welloing." I really see those who find their lives being weary and they blame it on the work they do in the kingdom of God when really and truly it's everything else that's really making them weary. They just blame it on the work of God. You you're going to find yourself weary in flesh. But he said, "Be not weary in welloing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not." Those who find themselves restless and never satisfied and contented in the house of God, never satisfied with their ministry. I feel like God's calling me to do this and God's calling and God does call. But sometimes they're not willing to wait on the call of God to mature and develop. But instead, they're part of that crowd that just got up and went and never get rooted and grounded and find a solid base to do what God has called them. We still have this ministry. >> You know what we're supposed to preach? We're supposed to preach Christ. Verse five said, "For we preach not of ourselves. If it ever becomes about our personalities, we're going to lose. If it if it becomes about how great we are, what great organizers, what great programs we have, and we leave out the scope and the most important thing, we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves, your servants for Jesus' sake." Oh, let the world see Jesus in everything we do. If we're singing, if we're greeted, if we're winning the lost, if we're feeding the hungry, let them see Jesus in us. It's [Applause] Oh, I wish I could say it better that all would understand. The things that we do is not for self arandizing thing. We didn't start a Christian school or a child care center because we wanted to be lauded among our own ranks and say, "Wow, what a school." And wow, what a child care center. We want to win the lost and bring folks to Jesus in everything we do. Oh, hear me. Whatever you're doing in the kingdom of God, remember you're part of this ministry, it doesn't matter if you're coaching or you're cleaning. >> And let me tell you in Romans, we get some signals here. Some folks that think serving God has to be a drudgery. I denounce negativity about doing a work of God. Doing a work for God ought to be a joyous task. The things that we do in the kingdom of God, we ought to enjoy. Well, Romans said it this way. For the kingdom of of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, righteousness, and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. Enjoy what you do in the kingdom of God. For he that is in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God and approved to men. You should have joy when you're still a part of this ministry. If you're a part of ACS aka Sunday school mighty men of muscle women's spring tech team, audio team, video team, usher team, greeter team, security team, PIA, FAC serves, be free on and on and on and on. You need to do that with joy. >> It don't need to be a drudge. You should do those things with joy. Yes, there will be folks that have a call, but their call is according to their gift. Listen, let me tell you. Everybody, hear me. I hate to break the news to you. Just because you sound good in the shower, everybody's not called to have a microphone to sing. you know, present company sometimes included, but don't pick up a call that God has not given you the grace to fulfill that call. Instead, wait patiently on God's direction and guidance. Verse 11 says, "For we which live are always delivered under the death of Jesus' sake, for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh, so then death workketh in us, but life in you, understanding that the sacrifices that Christ made should stay close to our heart. Everything that we do should be in response to telling this world this world about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and the salvation power that's in that message. Let me tell you, the church is full of flesh and blood. We do not have our glorified bodies yet. We will still in the church have human conflict, human failures and disappointments, but you should never allow that to devastate you spiritually. We must always do our best to live a delivered life. Now, the the Bible said it this way. So then death workketh in us, but life in you, that Jesus might be manifest in our mortal flesh. Now that's the way the Bible says it. Let me tell you the common vernacular or vernacular is the way you pronounce that. I think we all must come to the realization that we know the imperfections of the church. The church will have, if you will, freckles and warts. But if we aren't careful, we will view other places and other churches as perfection. That's okay. There's a lot of folks have viewed us as being perfect till they got here. Should that devastate us spiritually? No. Instead, it should remind us all that we must live every day, dying out daily to Christ and let the Holy Ghost give us fresh direction every morning. Let the sacrifices of praise go continually from us. Let us never be devastated by human failures. Instead, let's pray for one another. Lift each lift each other up. Verse 13 then said this. This is how you be part of this ministry and continue in this ministry. It said, "We have the same spirit of faith according as as it is written, I believe, and therefore have I spoken. We also believe and therefore speak knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus and shall present us with you. What does this simply mean? That we need to have a mouth on us and not be ashamed to testify. We need to not be ashamed to say, "Yes, I am part of the church. I'm a saint of God. You may not view what I do as being important. I don't care what you think. I've been bloodbought and I'm going to do what God has afforded me the privilege of doing. Joseph chose prison over immorality. Daniel chose simple food over the king's dainties. Daniel chose the lion's den over a prayerless life. John the Baptist told Herod what he thought even though it meant prison and losing his head. Do we have the courage in this day to stand for our convictions in this perverted and perverse world in which we live? Praise team musicians, come get ready. Here's what has to happen. There must be abundant grace. Verse 15 said of 2 Corinthians 4, for all things are for your sakes the abundant grace. that we have this ministry and we have abundant grace. I sometimes am a bit reluctant to call out folks specifically, but I mentioned Brother Wilson. Wilson's been in church as long as I can remember. I love you, Brother Wilson. I'm I'm thankful for your faithfulness and loyalty to First Apostolic Church. But I want to give you another example. Folks has come from time to time of coming to church and I I honor every one of you. But let let me tell you about somebody. And here's the way I'm going to do it. I would like to see the hands raised of every person in this house over the years who ever received a card in the mail from Sister Peggy Bennett. Would you raise your hand? Keep them up. Raise them high. Now, I want you to look. Look just a minute. Leave your hands up. Did you Did anybody in here ever get a card from Sister Peggy Bennett? I now sister Peggy has worked faithfully, thank you, in Sunday school teaching little ones as long as I can remember. I remember sister Peggy over at 123 West Colia. And then her name was Peggy Whley. Then she married Brother Carl Bennett and they both started working. Now that I know of, I've never seen Sister Peggy and Brother Carl up here singing or preaching. But I saw my kids, Anthony and Ashley, when they were just little things get so excited about Tuesday or Wednesday, they'd get a card in the mail said, "Thank you for being in my Sunday's class." Sunday's school class. Anybody got one of those? Did you sell those hands? There's multiple. Hey, Edward Perry, I saw your hand go up. You're not near as old as me, but you're older than a lot of them. She's been doing this for decades. You know why? She said, "We have this ministry. Uh, if I can do one little thing, if I can do one little thing to to make a child excited, you know what they say? I want to go back next Sunday. I I listen, there's some things that heaven alone will record because of your faithfulness and your loyalty to the kingdom of God. Don't get weary with welloing. Stay involved in the kingdom of God. Whatever you've been called to go do, be faithful and loyal to your church. God, be faithful to the call that God has given you. Well, brother Mool, can you tell me how I can join and be a part of this ministry? You can't. You have to be born into this thing. But you have to be born again like Nicodemus was. Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews. Bible said that Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. He was the original Nick at night. He said, "Rabbi, we know that you're a teacher from God. For no man can do these miracles that thou dost, except God be with him." Jesus answered and said unto him, "Verily, verily, I say unto you unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said unto him, "How can a man be born when he is old? How can he enter the second time in his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That's what is that which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto you, you must be born again." The way you become part of this ministry is you got to be born again. You repent of your sins. You're baptized in the name of Jesus and you're filled with the Holy Ghost. >> Nicodemus got baptized. Peter went on to preach the Acts 238 message, but it didn't stop at verse 38 because it talked about the promises unto you and to your children and them that are far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And the Bible said, "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine, fellowshipping and in breaking bread and in prayers." Let me tell you, part of being still in this ministry means there's going to be times of fellowship. Man, I just enjoy being with you folks. I enjoy fellowshipping. Yeah, I love us being here in church, but last last uh Sunday, I so hate it. I I very rarely scheduled to be out of town on a Sunday, but especially last Sunday when y'all had that picnic. I had to go on the the security cameras. I was up in Indianapolis preaching for part of our church family, the balls, but I had to go on the security cameras and I got real jealous seeing all y'all fellowshipping together on Sunday afternoon. Y'all look like you're having a good time. I I want to be a part of the fellowshipping because we still have this ministry. It said they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine. I pledge to you that first apostolic church is not looking for new direction or new doctrines. Stand with me. We're an apostolic church. That's what we will continue to be. We're a holiness church. That's what we continue to be. Yeah, there's going to be some breaking bread. Yeah, we'll have some meals together. There's going to be some prayer. There's going to be praising God. He said, "Having favor with all the people." And notice this. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Listen, if you're seeing new faces around this place, [Music] say, "Thank you, Lord. Keep adding to the church. You help." There's some of you, and again, if I start calling names, I'll get in trouble. But some of you, God has given you a special calling of kindness and greeting guests when they come to the church. Some of you have a special call and talent that you make folks feel welcome. I I I've seen you go to strangers that were a little uncomfortable at their first visit and say, "Hey, I want to introduce myself. Hey, I I you're not here with anybody. I'd like for you to come and sit with me in the service." That's a good thing. That's making folks feel welcome. That That's ministering. And we still have this ministry. [Music] But let me finally say this. Here's where your ministry starts. If you are looking for direction, your ministry should first start with yourself and your immediate family. Remember Joshua's words when he said, "If it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you'll serve, whether the gods which were fathers served, they were on the other side of the flood or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell." He said, "But as for me," can you say, "As for me tonight and my house," can you speak for your house? "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Your first ministry is to your family. Noah built an ark of safety for all who would come in. and it was the animals and his family. That's a successful ministry when your family can be saved. You may never stand behind a pull pit. You may never sing a song. But what you do in this ministry is just as important in the kingdom of God to God as any place and position. Tonight, I would like us to do this. I would like for us to have a season of prayer. If there's anyone who has not yet repented of their sins, I'm going to give you a slight head start, but not much because we're going to fill this altar in just a minute with folks who want to say, "God, I reaffirm that I'm part of this ministry. I want to be a part of what you've called us to do collectively and individually. I want to do what God would call us to do. If you haven't repented of your sins, you come first. I give you a pause and then I invite all to come for a season of recommmitment to say, "God, I'm part of this ministry. I'll do what you've called me to do. I'll give my best effort. I'll be loyal. I will be committed to all you would have me do in Jesus name." Hallelujah. [Music] When I think of all you done, when I think of all you brought me through, when I think about your love, >> I can never say enough. I can never say enough. When I think of all you, >> when I think about you, when I think about I can never say enough. When I think of all you've done. When I think of all you. When I think about your love, I think about you. I never say night you when I think of all you brought me through. When I think about your love, I can never say enough [Music] [Applause] for the ways that you for the price that you paid. for your mercies every day. That's why I owe you praise for the ways that you have made for the price that you have for your mercies every day. That's why I owe you praise for the price that you pay for your mercies every day. That's why I owe you praise. Oh Lord, you deserve. Oh Lord, you deserve all my praise. Oh, you deserve >> You deserve You deserve all my praisees. Oh Lord, you deserve. Oh Lord, you deserve all my praisees. Oh Lord, you deserve. Only you deserve all my praise. >> I want to give you one more passage of scripture before we leave. 1 Corinthians 12 28 says this. And God hath set some in the church. First apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers. After that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues, [Music] are all apostles, or all prophets, or all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? These are rhetorical questions that say absolutely no. If everybody was a pastor, there would be no saints. If everybody was a prophet, there would be no one to prophesy to. The gift of healing, many feel that that's a supernatural healing. And yes, God still heals. But God also calls people who have words of comfort. There are some who are called who are comforters and they he help heal situations by being comforters. It min it even made a mention of the ministry of help. I'm thankful for helpers. I I I will call one more. I want to thank brother brother Keith. He helps his pastor. He helps lock up the building at night. He helps his pastor. He helps me. I know how to lock up the building. But there's sometimes there's things that I'm having to do. And brother Keith faithfully even waits on some of y'all when you've been here way too long before he'll turn out the lights on you. But brother brother Keith ministers with the gift of helps. your helpers when you work in the kingdom. You You may not get a banner. You may not get a headline. You those who work behind the scenes, who work in our multimedia and and minister to others. I'll I'll get many times guest cards and ministers cards. How did you first learn about First Apostolic Church? I saw it online. I I I saw a post about the church. Those are ministries of helps diversities of tongues. Yes, there is a spiritual speaking in other tongues. There's a spiritual evidence of the Holy Ghost tongues, but there are also diversities in tongues. You don't think so? go to the t the Sunday afternoon PIA service and see if you don't need a diversity of tongues to understand what's going on. Thank you PIA for ministering to another part of our community. We have this ministry [Music] and even me min mentioned the ministry of government. Thank you for our leaders, our principal and administrators over our school and our child care center. Those who minister and administer grades and the difficult tasks of keeping books and records. That's that's helping govern the church. Enough said. If I don't dismiss you, you can't come back Wednesday night. I love you. Lord bless you. Would you greet your brothers and sisters and all who are here in Jesus name? You're dismissed.
