Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Like precious faith and exceeding great promises

  • Simon Peter writes to them that have obtained like precious faith through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Grace and peace are multiplied through the knowledge of God, and his divine power has given all things that pertain to life and godliness.
  • By the exceeding great and precious promises, believers are made partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the world's corruption.

Scriptures: 2 Peter 1:1-4

It is not good to be alone

  • The Lord God said it is not good that the man should be alone, and made him a companion fit for him.
  • Two are better than one: they have a good reward for their labor, they lift one another up, and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
  • As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
  • The husband is to dwell with his wife according to knowledge, giving honor to her, that their prayers be not hindered.

Scriptures: Genesis 2:18; Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Proverbs (book-only, as spoken); 1 Peter 3:7

Content with such things as ye have

  • He has said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee, so his people may boldly say, the Lord is my helper.
  • Godliness with contentment is great gain: we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Scriptures: Hebrews 13:5; 1 Timothy 6:3-7

Grace abounding to the chief of sinners

  • The grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant toward Paul, who calls himself the chief of sinners saved by a faithful saying.
  • Romans teaches that where sin abounded, grace did much more abound, and the just shall live by faith.
  • Jesus leaves his peace with his people, not as the world gives, and their hearts need not be troubled or afraid.
  • God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
  • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 1:14-15; Romans (book-only, as spoken); John 14:27; John 3:16; 1 John 1:9

Every need supplied and every trial measured

  • His God shall supply all the need of his people according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
  • Any man who lacks wisdom may ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and does not upbraid.
  • No temptation has taken God's people beyond what they are able; with the temptation he makes a way to escape.

Scriptures: Philippians (book-only, as spoken); James 1:5; 1 Corinthians 10:13

Behold, what manner of love

  • Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God; when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
  • God will dwell with men and wipe away all tears; there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying.
  • The disciples were commanded to wait for the promise of the Father: John baptized with water, but they would be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
  • Peter confirmed it on the day of Pentecost: repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost - for the promise is unto you, and to your children.

What a privilege it is to be back in the house of the Lord on this Sunday night. What a wonderful time we had in service this morning. The Lord mightily moved. We were so blessed to have guests with us and I enjoyed so much the testimony in particular of brother Plantinea and all the things that the Lord is doing around the world right in the middle of Rome, an apostolic church that is going and growing. I'm so excited about all that the Lord is doing and so excited about what he's doing right here in the city of Knoxville. Again, I welcome all of our guests. Honored to have you worshiping with us. And we want you to feel at home and be comfortable to worship with us. I join with the voice of those who've gone before me, Pastor Whitley, Pastor Anthony. Welcoming also those who are joining us on our uh several multimedia platforms. Thank you for being in service with us. I know we have church family this time of year who are journeying on a little respit and vacation time. And uh we uh uh thank you for tuning in and being in service and hurry home. I want you to have a good time at Hurry Home. Glad to have you. And those who are joining us, thank you for being in the house of the Lord with us. Exciting events coming up. Camp Goodspirit or rather uh camp uh Strong Tower. We've already had Camp Good Spirit. Uh uh Strong Tower camp begins tomorrow night for our young folks. Then don't forget we will be hosting Tri-State District Camp Meeting of the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ coming up uh July 15, 16,1 17. Pastor Anony's already announced that. But again, I encourage our church family. Always a very special time when uh the uh churches and church families in our surrounding area join together for three nights and two days of uh just an exciting time here in the summertime. And I don't mind telling you I I would pause and talk just a moment about camp meeting. Uh we uh call it camp meeting, but uh I have no regrets that camp meeting is right here in the air conditioning comfort of our uh sanctuary. Uh I'm thankful for all the camp meetings that I've been to that were uh outside. I've been to camp meetings all over this uh country. Uh been to camp meetings in uh Louisiana where the mosquitoes were was as big as some of the birds we have around here. Uh I've been to camp meetings in Michigan when even in the middle of the summertime early in the morning it was still cold and uh we had good church and all those events and I do not say that denigrating those things in any way. But I'm thankful that we have the opportunity in the summertime to have this time to fellowship with the saints of God. It's a special time and I want everyone to get ready spiritually uh for God to do a mighty work in camp meeting >> >> uh 2026. Give honor to all of our ministry, all of the leaders of the church. Uh thank you for your leadership and thank you most of all to for the saints of First Apostolic Church for your faithfulness in every facet of the ministries of this assembly. I would call your attention tonight to a familiar passage of scripture for our message, the book of second Peter, the first chapter. And I'll give you a moment if you're turning in your Bible or in your uh tablet or whatever instrument that you're using to uh read scripture. Uh second Peter, we'll begin reading at the in the first chapter at verse number one. Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ. To them that have obtained. Everyone say I am them. >> Say I am them. >> Say I have obtained. Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our savior Jesus Christ. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertainth unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue whereby are given notice unto us exceeding great and precious promises that by these you might be partakers of the divine divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. For a few moments tonight, I would speak to you from verse number four, exceeding great and precious promises. Let's pray. Savior, we're grateful and thankful to gather together with all the saints tonight. Lord, I pray that your word would once again feed us. Lord, your word would guide us, direct us. It would order our steps. God, nothing of my ability, but Lord, let me be available to you to speak as your mouthpiece this night. Let me speak to our hearts through your word. Let us receive, react, and rejoice because you have done a work. We thank you and praise you in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen and amen. I am them. I have obtained. Simon Peter in second Peter is giving these salutations at the beginning of this letter. And as he makes these statements, he makes a collective declaration to the people who are of like precious faith. And he mentioned he said to them that have have obtained like precious faith. We are them. The English is incorrect but I hope you understand what I'm saying. If we are believers who believe together we are the ones who have obtained like precious faith. We believe alike. We think alike. We have the same revelation of scripture. We are them that have obtained. So let's talk about these things just a bit in these four four verses that we have obtained. Now that term to obtain something generally means to acquire it to receive it to gain possession of something. There's some things that we should value that we possess. He said, "Those of like precious faith, we are not alone in what we believe. We are not alone in our faith. We're together." Genesis 2:18, "God knew how important it was not to be alone." He said of Adam and and the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone. I will make a helpmate for him." God knew that it was not healthy for man to be alone. Ecclesiastes gave this declaration about being alone. It said in Ecclesiastes 49 4 and9 we read two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him that is alone when he fall. Freeth not another to help him up again. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat. But how can one be warm alone? And if one prevaileth against him, two shall withstand him, and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Scripture is letting us know that we should not be alone. You should never be alone in your theology. folks can take the word of the Lord and try to develop ideologies and theologies and and uh certain pet doctrines that are scripturally unsound. But because they have no one to bounce it off of, if you will, they start believing something and they're alone in their doctrine. Proverbs said, "Iron sharpenth iron, so a man sharpenth the countenance of his friend." It's good to have friends sometimes that when you get to thinking goofy, they can say, "Hey, you're thinking goofy. You need to straighten up." It's good to have those the friendship, the fellowship of God's people. This is something we have obtained. Is it any wonder that Hebrews would tell us to hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering? For he is faithful that promised. And let us consider one another to provoke one one or to provoke unto love to good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together. It's important that we get together in the house of God, that we not be alone. Yes, I have heard those. Oh, I don't need a church. Oh, the the the uh uh uh skies are my uh ceiling and the earth is my floor and and I just can can make it my way on my own. I'm here to tell you, we need each other. I need you. You need me. We are of like precious faith. We believe the same way. We worship the same God. Let me tell you, don't find yourself alone doctrinally. Don't find yourself alone. Those who would have friends must show themselves stuck up. Those who would have friends must show themselves aloof. No. If you're going to have friends, you'll be friendly. God's people ought to be friendly. We should be joining together collectively. There are some of you in the church, if I start calling names, I'd leave somebody else out. But I if somebody comes through the doors, the the greeters do do not much more than let go of their hand that you're surrounding and said, "Hey, don't be by yourself. Come and sit by me. I want you to be a part of the church." I is that some kind of strategy? You better know it is. I don't want anybody to be alone. We're in this thing together. We are like, precious faith. For you see, in turn, we're talking about exceeding and precious promises. We have this promise from Hebrews. Hebrews 13:5, for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. We have the promise that he will not leave us alone. But let's look what else we have obtained. He went on to say that we have obtained grace and peace multiplied through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ. I'm thankful for multiplied grace. It's not addition. It's multiplication. It's a an amazing increase of God's grace. An exponential increase, if you will. You see, scripture tells us about multiplied grace in 1 Timothy 1:14. The grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus came in this world to save sinners of whom I am chief. Just how many sinners are in this world? Scripture tells us all have sinned. How much grace does it take to have the saving power for this whole world for generation after generation that has come and gone and as long as the Lord carries for generations to come how much grace he calls it here abundant grace I'm thankful for the exceeding abundant grace of God I've obtained that I'm thankful that I'm part of that bunch if you will that's obtained exceeding ing grace. >> Romans said it this way. For if by one man's offense death reigned by one, much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ. Therefore, as by the offense of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation all the way back to the Adamic sin and Adam's sin. sin entered into the human family. Even so, by righteousness of one, the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Christ bringing the abundance of grace. Now, we can sit back and fold our phariseical arms and say, "I know all of this." But I'm here to tell you, I'm thankful to be reminded of the abundant grace. Why? Because I need it every day. Yesterday didn't end my need for God's grace. If you think that that you don't need his grace anymore, you're sorely mistaken and sorely lacking in the understanding of just how great his grace is. He He forgave me yesterday, he's going to forgive me tomorrow, and his grace has kept me this day. >> For as by one man's disobedience, many were made sinners, so by obedience of one shall many be made righteous. But it it said that grace and peace are multiplied. John 14:27 states, "Peace I leave with you." Jesus was speaking, "And my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Need I take us to our headlines almost every day to let us see how the pe the world's peace doesn't work. It has been a common joke if you will among contestants in beauty pageantss when they give their speech if they had nothing to say what they wanted to do in life. I want to work toward world peace. But the real truth is in the human family there is no peace because of sin. They may sign treaties and memorandums of understanding. They may meet in supposedly neutral places and try to come to agreements that we're going to be peaceful and we're going to live in peace. But I'm here to tell you, this world will never have peace without Christ. This world does not know the true peacegiver and the true peace. You see, we're talking about the one today that when the storms are raging, he could step out on the boat and say, "Peace. Be still." He commanded peace. I'm thankful that I have obtained the peace of God. That peace is so strong. Philippians tell me tells me that he would be the peace that passes understanding. >> There's stuff I don't get in life. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to figure it all out, but there's just too many things that I don't understand, but I can't be troubled by it. Why? because I have the peacekeeper and the peace speaker in my life who even though I don't understand he can bring peace in my heart. There's folks in this room today, there's folks listening online that your life is in trouble and turmoil. Let me speak to you just a minute. Turn your life over to the God of peace. The God that in the midst of the worst storm of your life can bring you peace. You may not understand, but he can bring you peace. You may not get the answer that you want, but he can bring you peace. even in a time that you do not have the answers. But he also said, I have obtained in our text it said we have obtained all things that pertainth to life and godliness. Now, 1 Timothy 63 addresses godliness. We'll begin at verse three. It said, "If any man teach otherwise and consent not to wholesome words, even the word of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, he's proud, knowing nothing, but doubting about questions and stripes of words. Whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness. From such, withdraw thyelves. Does this not sound like much of what we hear in our daily life? We have 24-hour news networks. We have at our thumb tips on our phones access to literally opinions of everyone around the world. And all we find is folks who are proud knowing nothing, doting about questions and stripes of words. How many likes did you get? I'm going to unfollow you. Aren't you mean? Stripes of words. Wherefore cometh envy, railing, evil surmising. Think about that. That evil surmising. What does this mean? I don't have any facts, but I don't let that get in the in my way. I surmise that that person's out to get me. I surmise that that one's up to no good. I I I've got it in my brain. I've got this figured out. I have no facts. In fact, I never let facts get in the way. Evil surmising, perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds. Men of corrupt minds take perverted, perverse positions and argue them as normal. Need I be more specific and itemize with the perversion and corruption that we face every day in the name of inclusiveness, destitute of the truth. That means you just can't find anything truth. What's going on? Supposing that gain is godliness. Well, if they've got a bunch, God must be blessing them. He said, "From such, withdraw yourself." There's some stuff you need to pull away from. There's some stuff we shouldn't even be entertaining our minds with. That shouldn't be uh I if you start getting those notices at the end of the week that say this week you've spent this much screen time and you didn't know there were that many hours in the day that you were away. Verse six says, "But godliness with contentment is great gain." Let me pause there. This lets me know that there are folks who can be godly who are discontent. They believe in living a godly life but they never find contentment in life. Now it said all things that pertainth to life and godliness. You see, there are some who, yes, they are godly, but they never take the time to enjoy the life they're living right now. Let me tell you, living a godly life should not be a life of discontent. Living a godly life needs to be the happiest life in the world. And we should be the example of godly people that's enjoying life. You don't have to sin to enjoy life. In fact, living a life free from sin will give you true enjoyment. Husbands and wives, you need to love each other. You need to be the example of the greatest example of in this world of folks living life and enjoying it. >> Baby, I told it this morning while you're out, but I'll say it again. Happy 45th wedding anniversary, man. Oh, man. Thank you for putting up with me for 45 years. Man, it's a life that that's wonderful. It's great. It's exciting. She looked so young you'd think we got married at four. You know, he said, "But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy your life. Man, I believe in coming to church. I believe in sacrifice. I believe in fasting, but I also believe in feasting sometimes. I believe in getting together with God's people and having a good time, fellowshipping together. We jumped on a bus Saturday a couple of weeks ago with 40ome men from First Apostolic Church. We didn't do any drinking, smoking, or any other that spitting stuff, but we went and watched a a baseball game and came back home and everybody showed up for church Sunday morning. And you know what? We just had a good time fellowshipping because we had some things in common. We we were fellowshipping with one another. We were having a good time. Now, I know that some folks are so godly and they're so spiritual that they're no earthly good. We need to enjoy the opportunities of being with our family, being with our church family, the wonderful opportunities that bring contentment rather rather than discontent. I went to my granddaughter's seventh birthday yesterday. Man, we had a time except my granddaughter has developed a love. I don't know who made that poem up that used to say that little girls were sugar and spice and everything nice and boys were uh snakes and snails and puppy dog tails. Am I remembering that right? Uh my granddaughter had a a bug birthday party and that sounds it is exactly what it sounds like. She had a lady come to their party that had bugs and they showed them off and touched them on purpose. And bugs weren't enough. They had a turtle that was, I exaggerate, not this big around walking around in the party room. They had salamanders. They had those creatures that have thousands of legs on them. And I enjoyed the whole party from afar. And on top of that, they had two snakes at the party. I told him somebody could take some publicity pictures for the church and really fix our reputation. But you know what? Eleanor enjoyed every minute of it. And all those pretty little girls from the church that were there, they enjoyed touching those snakes and and all that. We better enjoy life. Let me tell you, God has given us some of the most. Look around you. Look at your kids that you got sitting beside you. Don't waste a moment. Time is short. Enjoy life. Oh, I hope you can hear my heart and feel my heart tonight. I realize this isn't some great spiritual command and oh, we're going to have those services where the shakina glory of God falls and it just feels like there's a a cloud hovering in the room of God's presence and I'll take every minute of it. But I want you to enjoy being with your family, being with your loved ones, being in church. We ought to have a good time when we come to church. Time's too short for some preacher to get up here and beat everybody over the head. God will tell us about sin, but we need to tell everybody about the goodness of God. I've obtained life and grace >> and godliness. First Peter 3:7 said, "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them, speaking of their wives, according to knowledge." In other words, have some sense, dudes. giving honor unto thy wife as the weaker vessel. Notice what it didn't say. It said give didn't say given honor your wife as the weak vessel. It says as the weaker vessel. That means you need to be spiritually strong. Don't make your wife have to dumb herself down to be spiritually weak for you. You need to be spiritually strong. and as being hes together of the grace of life. Now, we've talked about grace of the forgiveness of sin, but we as children of God must maintain. We have obtained and we must maintain the grace of life. Oh, there are so many who have missed out because of sin on the grace of life. There are those who may by human standards have much more wealth financially than we do, but they would give every dime of it to have the happiness and the grace of life that comes with serving God. A husband and wife, heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered. I if you're living a a jumbled, disjointed life, take your life, your marriage, your relationships back to Christ. Godly people should exemplify and enjoy the grace of life intended for godly people. Grace is not just about heaven. We should be enjoying living life now with God. We must appreciate our family, our children, our job. Appreciate your job. Be thankful that you've got a job. Man, I'm going to get as guttural and carnal in the pull pit and I'm going to scare somebody to death. Y'all forgive me already. Several several years ago, there was a country singer pinned these words. He pinned these words about his job. He said, "Take this job." And see, you know it. I didn't even have to say it. Later on, I heard somebody say, "I wish I had a job. I could be thankful when God makes something available to you. It may may not be what you want, but do it until you get what you want. Don't sit down and quit. That you may be on a journey. God may be guiding you, directing you, ordering your steps. Don't sit down and quit. Be thankful every day for what's being provided. Pastor Anthony so eloquently talked about God's financial plan. Let me say this. Did you know paying tithe should never be a sacrifice? If you've already set aside a financial plan in your life, paying tithe will be a joy and a blessing. And because you have already set that aside in your life as your first fruits of giving, consequently, then you are blessed. That's one of those promises that I mentioned that we're talking about as exceeding precious promises. That's a promise given you. I if if you'll pay your tithe, he said, I'll open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing. There will not be room enough to receive. It's not a sacrifice to pay your tithe. It's a blessing. So he went on to say, and I I hasten toward a close. According to our text, we after we have obtained these things, our text said we are called to glory and virtue. Now those are kind of abstract terms in our mind. What what does that mean to I if I've if I've obtained this stuff then I've also got a call on my life. I'm called to glory and to virtue. What what does glory and virtue mean? Glory defined is the majesty, the beauty and inestimable value of God's character. To give God glory means to recognize, to honor, to ascribe to him the supreme value and heavy importance he deserves. But the term virtue that goes along with it is described this way. a positive moral quality or trait of excellence that guides a person to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. We're called to virtue to do what's right and not what's wrong. It aligns with high moral standards such as courage, patience, honesty, and compassion. We're called to glory. Paul told the Corinthians, "If I must need glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities." No, that doesn't seem to make sense. I I'm going to give God glory in my infirmities. You better know I am. To God be the glory for everything he's done. He woke me up this morning. I might be as ugly as I was yesterday, but I'm still awake. He He He brought me on my journey. I might not have had the car I wanted to drive, but I got here someway. I'm going to glory even in issues that I have because he's still in control. I've obtained everything that he has for me. So, the passage of four verses, you didn't know there was this much in four verses. What are these exceeding great and precious promises that Paul mentioned in verse four? A promise is a declaration or a commitment assuring someone that a specific action will or will not be done. I have heard folks say there are ten commandments in the Bible, but there's 10,000 promises. Well, I did a little search. I found an article by a fellow by the name of Ever or Everick R. Storm. He published this in 2021. And here's what he stated. He stated, "The scripture contains a grand total of 8,810 promises. How do I know?" I counted them. He says, "I do not guarantee my count to be perfect, but it is the most accurate I know of. There are 7,487 promises that God has given to a man. This is about 85% of the promises in the Bible. Don't worry, I'm not going to try to go over all of them tonight, but if I could remind us of just a few of those most important promises. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." Eternal life is a promise of God. It's promised for every one of us. Salvation and forgiveness are the promises of God. First John 1:9 said, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, heaven and restoration." He preached about it today. God has promised that he will return. But you see, there are a couple of types of promises. There are conditional promises and unconditional promises. Unconditional promises are truth that God promised it's going to be that way no matter what. But there are some conditional promises that say if you do this then I'm going to do that. The Revelation chapter 21:3 says, "And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God, and God shall, here's a promise, wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away. That's a promise of God that we find in the scripture. >> Praise team, musicians, get ready. I'm going to hasten to a close. There are immediate promises of provisions. We've talked about God's financial plan. Philippians said it this way. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. He promises us. You want to get smart? Follow the promises of God. James 1 and5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God." There's some stuff we need to stop asking the world about and start asking God about. If any man lack your lack, if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upgradeth not, and it shall be given him. He gives us and promises us strength over temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, "There hath no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it." God will help you bear any challenge in your life. And finally, stand with me. That'll make you think I'm finishing. Second Peter 1:4 from our text said, "Whereby are giving unto us exceeding great and precious promises?" Notice, "That by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature. Be natured like Christ, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." First John 3. I know you're getting a lot of scripture here, but stay with me. This is what the word says about it. First John 3:1 says, "Behold, what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." He didn't say the stepsons. He said we're the sons of God. That is not gender specific. That refers to us all. Therefore, the world knoweth us not because it knew him not. The world didn't understand Christ. And if we have his nature, the world's not going to understand us. Beloved, now are we the sons of God. And it does not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him. I'm going to have his nature. For we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifith himself even as he is pure. On and on. Galatians said that we're sons and we're heirs. 1 Corinthians 2 and I'm skimming rather than reading tells us that we will understand the deep things of God and the spirit of God and we will know the things that are given freely of God because the Holy Ghost will teach us to compare spiritual and spiritual. The natural man can't understand it. But it goes on to say that we have the mind of God, the nature of God. There's two songs that come to mind. I said I was singing an old school song earlier. There's two songs that we used to sing quite often in church. One of those songs we used to sing was standing on the promises. There's too many folks sitting on the premises between standing on the promises. We used to sing I'm standing on the promises of Christ my savior. And the other song we used to sing is every promise in the book it's mine. Hear me. It makes it personal. Every promise in the word of the Lord, it's mine. I can claim those promises. Whatever that number was that the guy counted, over 7,000 promises of God. Every one of those belong to me. I can claim the promises of God. >> In fact, if you're in this house tonight and you have not claimed all the promises, let me tell you the promise you need to claim. For in Acts the first chapter, scripture said in verse four, the and being assembled together with them, this was Jesus, he spoke and commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but they should wait on the promise of the father. There's a promise of the father that has been given, which saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence. That's your promise. The Holy Ghost has promised you. Just as on the day of Pentecost, they were told, "Come here and wait." Jesus said, "Wait, Terry here because the promise is coming." Peter confirmed it in Acts two when he said, "Repent. Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost for the promise." Aha. The Holy Ghost is promised you. You got a promise tonight. If you're in this house and you have not yet received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the promise is for you. The first step is to repent of your sins. Say, "Lord, I'm sorry for my sin." Look, it's just this easy. I'm sorry for my sin. I'm repenting of my sins. And then you take on his name in water baptism. You are buried in baptism in the name of Jesus. and your promise, the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is for you, to your children, and to all that are far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Who is he called? He's called them that have obtained. We of like precious faith. You're called. You're chosen. Will you be faithful? I want to open the altar tonight for a season of prayer. If you would step out from where you are and come and remind yourself of the promises of God. If you've never repented, come with us and repent. If you haven't received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, there are folks here that'll pray with you tonight that you can receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. If you've never been baptized in Jesus name, we have clothes for men, women, boys, and girls. We have a baptismal pool behind that screen. We'll raise that screen right up and we'll bury you in the name of Jesus that you can fulfill the promise. Would you sing for us? Let's talk to the Lord together right now. Mighty God, I love you. >> Savior, I bless your name, >> God. I glory in you, God. nothing that I have accomplished. But Lord, what we have obtained, what you have given us, Lord, we thank you for it this night in the name of Jesus. Lord, if there's a person in this place who has not yet repented of their sins, God, hear their plea right now. Hear their cry right now. We repent ourselves of every wrongdoing. We repent ourselves of every sin. God, I know you will receive that repentance right now. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. >> God, you're so good. God, you're so good. >> You are good. >> God, you're so good. Hallelujah. >> You are good. >> Hey. Hey. >> Your mercy is forever. >> You're forever and ever and ever. >> You are good. >> So good. >> You are good. >> So good. You are good and your mercy is forever. >> Aren't you thankful for the good God? He's so good. Oh, would you thank him for his love? Would you thank him for all the things you have obtained? Hallelujah. >> God, your kindness is forever. Your goodness, >> your goodness is forever. >> Your mercy, mercy, mercy forever. Your kindness is forever. Your goodness is forever. Your mercy is forever. Forever. All your kindness is forever. on your mercy is forever. >> Your mercy is forever. Forever. You are good. You are good. You are good. And your mercy is forever. For you are good. You are good. >> You are good and your mercy is forever. >> Would you love Jesus together right now? One more time. Savior, I thank you for all that we have obtained in you. God, I thank you for the exceeding and precious promises that you so freely give to us. Now Lord, let us go from this place a testimony and an example of your goodness, of the grace of life, Lord, of the knowledge of Christ Jesus. Lord, let us be a witness to a lost world and bring others in who are searching for your precious, immeasurable, inestimable grace. God, go with us. Bring us back at the next appointed time. For all this, we're grateful and thankful. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. Please remember Wednesday night worship in the word. Be right here expecting a marvelous time in the Lord. Greet your brothers and sisters. You're dismissed in Jesus name.
