Sunday Morning Worship Service

well lord bless you i'm gonna let you move to your seats we greet you and we welcome you to the sunday morning worship service of first apostolic church we welcome all of our guests if this is your first time to join us at first apostolic church we want you to feel the welcome of this friendly assembly you are in the friendliest church in town and we thank you for worshiping with us to all those who are joining us in that great internet land electronic age that uh the multiple platforms that the message is going forward if you were joining us in that realm we welcome you we're so glad and honored to have you worshiping with us and we hope that you will join us in the near future and be in service with us i also want to say a special special welcome and thank you to all of those folks who have already started celebrating the christmas season because we're celebrating the birth of our savior that's what this time is about there's already an expectancy in the air it's not about gifts it's not about lights and all all of those things are taking place in our community in our city and around the world but isn't it amazing as much as the enemy would try to take christ out of our lives in every way it just seems that no matter we celebrate more and more because we're celebrating our savior so i encourage everybody be in that festive spirit tonight is a very special night at first apostolic church we will be having songs of the season there will be uh special presentations from the music department of first apostolic church and in addition we have special guests that will be uh singing for us in the service tonight you will so enjoy the ministry of brother and sister french from the great state of georgia they will be blessing us but tonight is a time that we celebrate this season and i encourage everyone to be here tonight also i would let you know you heard many of the pre-service announcements but would repeat uh that uh coming out up later on in this month evangelist michael maupin will be with us here we're glad to have him home during the christmas season and on the sunday just before uh christmas we will have a special guest for all who are in attendance here at first apostolic church a special gift for you so i encourage all guests and everyone to be here on that sunday as well i want to take you to the word of the lord this morning i'm going to let you remain seated but i hope the word will excite you should you need to get on your feet and worship the lord that you're comfortable in doing so and i'll say i'm excited again i'll repeat we have one precious soul at least one to be baptized in the name of jesus uh this morning uh near the end of the service we're excited about that that uh with our code orange revival that we had last week i believe that will be the fifth uh soul to go down in the name of jesus and that's what we're here about so excited about that calling your attention this morning to the book of matthew the 19th chapter while you're turning i do give honor to our bishop to our pastoral leadership to our elders and to all the saints of first apostolic church thank you for being faithful to the house of god during this season as well a lot of things happening and most of all the best happening is being in god's house matthew 19 we'll begin reading at verse number 23. then said jesus unto his disciples verily i say unto you that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven and again i say unto you it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of god when his disciples heard it they were exceedingly amazed saying who then can be saved but jesus beheld them and said unto them notice with men this is impossible [Music] but with god all things are possible for a few moments this morning i would speak to you on this subject a god who can change the unchangeable let's pray savior i love you god i'm grateful for your word and i thank you for every precious soul that's in this house today lord i thank you for your presence that we've already experienced thank you for the praise and worship that's gone up and the blessings that have come down the lord i pray that your word would minister mightily to us let us feast at your table let us receive what you would have for us everyone in the name of jesus we pray amen [Music] our text records the words of jesus to his disciples when he evaluated the actions of the rich young man who had approached him and asked questions about salvation and had declared that he had obeyed all the moral laws of the ten commandments but this same young man the bible says went away sorrowful when he was told basically by jesus if you're gonna follow me you're gonna have to sell out brother whitley so beautifully preached about this just a couple of weeks back the importance of being out able to sell out to jesus and then jesus goes on to explain that if there's anything that is more dear to you than serving and following christ you've got to sell out to be completely committed as you should be and then he intimates in these statements how difficult it is for someone to change their primary affection in fact he used the words impossible he said with man it's impossible to change your primary affection in this instance his wealth was the young man's primary affection and when jesus said you got to sell out he went away sorrowful frankly there are a lot of things other than serving christ that becomes people's primary affections but i've also got good news for everybody in the house we serve the god who can change the unchangeable can make possible the impossible and he can do even miracles in mundane situations now i hope i won't offend you too bad by getting a little bit earthy here but back at the turn of the century well just after it that's 2004. think about it can you imagine we're 21 years into another century but back just past the turn of the century there was a twangy voiced female country singer some would have even called her a one-hit wonder from kingsport tennessee and she crooned a song that was titled this shoes don't stretch and men don't change apparently in her writing she was dwelling on some stereotypes that our culture has the one stereotype that she was riding on was a stereotype of some women who equate small clothe size and tiny petite feet as being particularly beautiful and denoting their beauty therefore trying to achieve some of those things that women would buy shoes that were too small for them and hope they could stretch them so their feet would fit in them but she was also stereotyping most men from apparent relationships she had had because she felt that most men were unfaithful lying cats that were incapable of being loyal or faithful once a liar always a liar wants a cheat always a cheat one of those guys a cat who acts dishonorably especially toward women but i say again we serve a god who can change the unchangeable he does miracles when it seems impossible he can do the make the impossible possible no matter your situation i'm here to tell you today if you'll let god god can stretch your substance you can proclaim that shoes won't stretch but i've got news for you i've got a god that can even stretch shoes if he needs to some of you bought in but some of you looking at me mighty crazy right now but i've got news for you i've got scripture for it god can even stretch you in the ladies don't follow the stereotype and plan a shopping trip this afternoon i hope you can get the spiritual significance of what this preacher's trying to say for over in the book of numbers the 14th chapter reading it verse number 26 the bible says the lord spake unto moses and unto aaron saying how long shall i bear with this evil congregation which murmur against me i have heard the murmurings of the children of israel which they murmur against me saying to them as i as truly as i live saith the lord as ye have spoken in mine ears so will i do to you he said the things you've been grappling about here's what's about to happen your carcass shall fall in this wilderness boy the lord was using harsh language he said all you murmurs complainers grumblers and gripers all you folks that are are faithless and won't believe you've already been delivered from egypt but you're still griping about this i've tried to feed you and you griped about well what i fed you you've griped about this you didn't have any faith when i offered you the promised land in the first place he said so you know what's going to happen said your carcass is going to fall and die in the wilderness and all that were numbered of you according to your whole number from 20 years old and upward which have murmured against me he was still giving the young folks a pass they were young and didn't have all the intellect that they should but he gave some responsibility to another generation that had been griping for so long you know what i think we could probably learn a good lesson to whom much is given who much is required let me tell you if you've been in this way for a long time don't brag and say i've been in the way so long it might be you ought to get out of the way and let god do a work and let your faith show instead of your grumble show he said doubtless ye shall not come to the land now here's who god is addressing he's addressing the 10 spies and their family members who were above 20 who were faithless and wouldn't go into the land and possess it he's addressing all of those except joshua and caleb notice he said doubtless ye shall not come into the land concerning which i swear to make you dwell in save caleb the son of jephthy and joshua the son of nine god is saying i'm going to reward joshua and caleb's faithfulness but then he said this but your little ones which he said should be a prey they were griping oh i'm doing this i'm just being safe for my kids i don't think we can take this promised land because there's giants there he's a and i'm just looking out for my family some folks are faithless under the guise of looking out for their family let me tell you when god gives you a promise you need to step out by faith because that faith that faith and that promise is not just for you it's for another generation he said but your little ones which ye should which you said would be prey then will i bring in you said they were going to be victims instead here's what's going to happen your carcass is going to fall in the wilderness but i'm going to bring your little ones in and they shall know the land which ye have despised but as for you your carcass they shall fall in the wilderness now i told you god can stretch your provisions he can stretch your shoes if he needs to so let's zoom ahead in time 40 years it apparently took 40 years for all the doubters and naysayers to die off let me tell you i can't do spirits sometimes takes a long time to die sometimes the reason god doesn't move is we want him to there's too many can't do doubting spirits in the place sometimes we need to square our shoulders and say just as joshua and caleb said we are well able to possess the land i don't know what god's going to call us to do next but whatever he calls us to do he's going to equip us to do it and he's going to give the substance to do it so we need to say yes we can be victorious we can take that promised land so as we zoom ahead 40 years in deuteronomy 29 we read and moses called unto all israel and said unto them ye have seen all that the lord did before your eyes in the land of egypt unto pharaoh and unto his servants and all his land the great temptations which thine eyes have seen the signs and those great miracles yet the lord hath not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear unto this day i have led you 40 years in the wilderness your clothes are not waxing old upon you and thy shoe is not wax and old upon thy foot i told you i had scripture he can stretch his shoes if he needs to not only did he stretch their shoes can you imagine those little children that started out they were two maybe three years old they didn't understand what was going on why they were in the wilderness but after 40 years now they're 42 and 43 and those little bitty shoes they have been wearing god has miraculously stretched their provisions the clothes that they had he's kept them intact you need some of you don't get it yet you see we're expecting god to always do these super colossal instantaneous things that we can all say wow did you see that but folks that are really walking by faith god will give you what you need when you need it when you need a size five it can grow to a size five spiritually when you grow a little more it took 40 years he stretched their provision somebody hear me today if you'll walk by faith and if you'll live by faith god will provide as is needed he didn't need to give them a 40 year old size shoe day by day walk by walk step by step that's the way we walk by faith with god my god can work in impossible situations he can provide their clothes were provided they were shod with shoes that god miraculously let grow their food and provisions had been miraculously extended for 40 years he said you've not eaten bread neither have you drunk wine or strong drink that you might know that i am the lord your god but brother mccool what about today when we put our lives in god's hands and avoid murmuring against his call and against his work he can stretch your provisions and he will could i give you some examples there's some of you folks under the sound of my voice i'd better say it this way and some of us because it's all of us it's in the mccool bloodline too hear me before you came to god you were in a bloodline that had the propensity for addiction there's some of you before you started serving god you were so addicted to tobacco that you couldn't go up and down and fly the steps without taking a rest break but you started following the lead of god and god miraculously gave you relief from your addiction there's some under the sound of my voice you couldn't get a job at a big box hardware store because you couldn't pass a drug test hear me but you put yourself under the authority of the word of the lord and you started putting away the filthy habits and vices of this world suddenly over a span of time your health started getting better some folks don't see that as a miracle god does the miraculous sometimes by letting you just be obedient in letting you obey those things he'll increase you suddenly your finances change you're not paying 10 bucks a pack every day trying to keep your habit together suddenly you're able to get a better job because you can pass a drug test and you know how to behave god's doing miracles among us and sometimes we don't realize it we're waiting for a dog and pony show lights and smoke and all the time if we'll just trust him and not murmur against him and not be in disbelief he's doing a work for the long haul in your life some of you are so financially upside down when you came into the kingdom of god it looked like there was no way to dig out but you put yourself under the financial plan of god you started paying your tithe and giving your offering suddenly you started budgeting yourself you started taking the first fruits of what you were making and you started giving it to god given the tithe you started giving an offering it didn't happen boom overnight but suddenly you started realizing hey i've got more money at the end of this month than i used to have suddenly i've got provisions god's taking care of me well see there's some still looking for somebody to come out here and wave their hand over you and knock everybody down whoa that was it god works over the long haul if you'll believe if you'll trust and not murmur and complain malachi said it this way malachi 3 10 bring you all the tithe in the storehouse that there may be meat in my house you know that sounds selfish it sounds like god's saying put me first he is because he said then prove me if you'll put me first just as the rich young ruler went away sorrowful because he had something that he was more addicted to than jesus if you will say i'm putting everything else aside i'm going to give my first fruits to jesus i'm going to give my first fruits i'm going to put myself under the authority of his word he said prove me now herewith saith the lord if i will not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive he said prove me i've got folks that can stand in this house that they've been living that life i'm proving god and time and time again he proves himself i've got folks oh hallelujah i feel the holy ghost here right now i'm not talking about lying in my pockets i'm talking about your blessings if you'll prove god if you'll give of what he's provided for you prove him proving prove him he does it every time he said not only will i open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that you won't have room enough to receive it preacher i'm needing that kind of blessing have you proved god have you stepped out by faith and given him your first fruits yet have you given him the first fruits of your time have you given the first fruits of your efforts not just the substance have you given him your first fruits he said not on that i will rebuke the devourer for your sake you know who the devourer is that's the enemy i'll rebuke him from your door oh if if we can all get under this understanding and the enlightenment not only will he make you money go farther he'll make your investments be better when other folks are losing some way somehow i've had folks come to me brother mccool i don't even understand how in this depressed time have you seen the news but god's still blessing me god still provided me i've still got a job i've still this is not about getting your money this is about getting you your blessing he said i will rebuke the devourer for your sake he shall not destroy the fruit of your ground neither show your vine castor fruit before the time in the field saith the lord of hosts and all nations shall call you bless shall call you blessed for ye shall be delightsome land saith the lord of hosts time and time again we find examples of how god stretched provisions for his people i won't read it word for word but you can read the details but to synopsize if you will in first kings 17 you can see when god provided provisions for elijah he told elijah he said go to ahab and prophesy there's not going to be any rain prophesy famine he did so and god said then go hide yourself and he said when you go hide yourself here's what's going to happen you're going to drink from the brook and then i'm going to have ravens feed you i said god can sometimes work in the mundane sometimes we try to handle small problems on our own we're just going to give the big stuff to the lord i've got news for you you ought to pray and get god's guidance before you trade cars but you can be seated y'all settle down don't don't get too excited you ought to pray before you buy a house you ought to pray before you make some investments before you change jobs god can sometimes work in those seemingly mundane things to make you better equipped to do the work that he's called you to do he said go hide yourself and i'm gonna have the now i don't know how many of you folks know much about ravens i did a little bit of studying ravens aren't the kind of creatures that like to share that's not in the nature of a raven what does a raven do a raven's a scavenger raven don't even kill for itself it waits for it's too lazy to kill for itself or it doesn't have the ability it waits for something else to do the killing and it picks off all the junk that's left but god said i'm going to even change the nature of raven for you if i need to i'm going to provide for you if you'll do what i told you to do and miraculously the bible says and the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning bread and flesh in the evening and he drank of the brook god can provide for you from those things that would never give god can give to you from some of the most selfish places that you thought would never give you anything if you'll obey him and trust him i find again elijah needing provisions needing something to take place needing god to do the impossible and make it possible in second kings the 17th chapter you can read that god told elijah said there's a widow that i want you to go to this widow's house and she will sustain you she's going to feed you and you can read it again for yourself about verse 8 it starts but elijah went to the house and he called this widow woman and she was out bible says she was gathering sticks and he said to her he said fetch me i pray thee a little water in a vessel that i may drink and as she was going to fetch it he called her and said and bring me i pray thee a morsel bread in my hand boy he's pretty presumptuous isn't he sees this lady doesn't know and he just says hey fetch fetch me some water oh and and while you're getting water bring me some bread and she said as thou as the lord thy god liveth i have not a cake but a handful of meal in the barrel now you well studied bible scholars already know what's going to happen you're way ahead of me but again i want you to notice she said i have not a cake but a handful of meal in the barrel and a little oil in the cruise and behold i am gathering two sticks that i might go in dress it for me and my son that we may eat it and die she had already resigned herself to defeat sometimes god's going to send a voice asking for something to the one that's already resigned to failure because he's needing some obedience to do something that was impossible and make it possible and elijah said to her fear not go and do as thou has said but make me thereof a little cake first and bring it to me boy doesn't that sound selfish hear me the sacrifice of obedience can at first look selfish i.e given the first fruits giving your tithe first i've had some folks they get that i i can't afford to tithe you know i'm gonna i'm gonna pay all my bills and then whatever's left i'll see if i can afford to pay tithe you'll never be able to afford to pay tithe that way god's teaching you a discipline and oh it may have sounded selfish at first when the prophet said feed me first but it wasn't about his natural hunger it was about a spirit of obedience if she would just do what the man of god was asking her to do god was about to perform the miraculous he was about to take the impossible and make it possible for thus saith the lord god of israel the barrel of meal shall not waste neither shall the cruse of oil fail unto the day that the lord sendeth rain upon the earth and she went and did according to the saying of elijah and she and he and her house did eat many days and the barrel of meal wasted not neither did the crews of oil fell according to the word of the lord which he spake by elijah god's wanting to do something for somebody if you'll step out and say god i'm going to give you my first fruits i'm going to give of myself i don't understand it but i'm going to give of what you've asked me to do a spirit of obedience will overshadow what looked to be a selfishness at first we've got too many testimonies god knows how to do more than stretch shoes he can stretch concrete if he needs to that's in the lineage of this assembly he can stretch your money if you've got too much month at the end of your money he knows how to do it after all in genesis he was called jehovah jireh the lord will provide not might not could the lord will provide i need not go through all the details but when abraham and isaac would head toward the mountain for sacrifice he had fire he had wood isaac began asking where's the sacrifice abraham with i'm sure a broken heart knowing what god had told him to do to sacrifice his own son said god will provide you know the story of what happened an obedient isaac and an obedient abraham went all the way to the mountain he laid him on the altar he raised his hand with the knife to slay him as the sacrifice and the angel stayed his hand but god said now i know now i know jehovah jireh he will provide for you if you'll walk by faith if you'll live by faith if you'll step out by faith he's going to do the work he can stretch your provisions but lest we get too spiritual let me also take you back because the song said men don't change but i've got news for you i'm serving a god that knows how to change a man i'm serving a god that can take someone that seems like they're so in the depths of sin he can change them completely may i give you again the examples from the word of the lord in acts 9 you can read it all for yourself saul the bible said was breathing out threatenings against the disciples of the lord i can imagine under his breath those old followers of jesus i hate them i can't stand them they're a bunch of reprobates i can't wait till i can can find some more he got documentation he got the leaders to give him letters that he could arrest men and women who were following christ he was all upset don't sound like a friend of the church to me don't sound like anybody that god could use sound like his mind's made up he's going to destroy these followers of christ oh but on the road to damascus the bible tells us that a bright light shone down and he fell to the earth he was blinded by that light but yet in his spiritual sense he suddenly got revelation he said lord who art thou and a voice out of heaven said i am jesus whom thou persecute us let me tell you it doesn't matter where somebody has been it doesn't matter how far down how hateful they've been how destructive they've been if you'll have a personal relationship with jesus if you'll find a time to realize who the lord is when you find out his name is jesus suddenly he can change a man for you see from that day forward saul would no longer be that persecutor his name would be changed to paul and we would find a different man notice the miraculous change that had taken place from this one who had so persecuted god's people if you go to ii timothy 4 he's now teaching a young timothy and he's living his final days his name is no longer saul he is now paul he said but watch thou in all things endure affliction do the work of an evangelist make full proof of thy ministry doesn't sound like he's a persecutor now why because he's a changed man don't tell me men can't change he said now i'm ready to be offered the time of my departure is at hand i've fought a good fight i've finished my course i have kept the faith listen i've heard bishop make this statement before i haven't been around quite as long as he has bishops 85 i'm 63 so i'm getting there but i've heard bishop make this statement he said when you've been around as long as i have you know something about everybody and know way too much about yourself that's right but let me tell you sitting in these seats today now don't y'all get worried i know a lot of things but it's all under the blood i'm not going to get specific but just in case somebody came in this house and you think there's a bunch of angels in here you think that nobody has dandruff that's all angel dust let me tell you sitting in these seats are men and women who saved by the grace of god who were much worse off than saul ever thought of him they were persecutors they were drunks they were addicts they were headed for a devil's hell they hated the truth they hated anything about god but somebody had a road to damascus experience and the holy ghost got a hold of him it might have been in a revival it might have been in a camp meeting it might have been in a prayer closet at their house but suddenly the holy ghost got a hold of them and changed them that's what this house is full of today that's what's here and if god can change them he can change you he can make you a different man need i give you more examples quickly you remember jacob his very name meant sir planter or deceiver but you see when he got to a low low state his deception had started catching up with him his own brother would disdain him and seek his life he had deceived his father he had been living such a treacherous life but you see he got in a wrestling match with an angel and you can read in genesis the 32nd chapter that they began wrestling and nobody was prevailing he must've been a pretty good wrestler there's some of us when it came to leaving sin we fought it real hard when we came to leaving that old center man that we were we wrestled with it i don't know if i can do this or not and but he got in this wrestling match with an angel to the point when the angel couldn't prevail naturally he had the supernatural said he touched his hip and he put his hip out of place and you know what jacob did he just held on he just i came to tell somebody you need just hold on i want somebody to know you may feel like you're in a battle you can't win just hold on to the lord hold on to his promises he's got something special for you he's wanting to change you completely he's wanting to make a miraculous difference in your life today hold on hold on the angel said let me go for the day breaketh and he said i will not let thee go except thou bless me and he said unto him what is thy name don't you know that was embarrassing enough to tell your name if your name meant deceiver you got to tell an angel i i'm a deceiver that's my name i'm the surplanter i i'm a deceiver and the angel said thy name shall be called no more jacob but israel i'm going to change you into a nation that's going to be the followers of god he i'm going to change he said for a prince has thou power with god and with men and has prevailed and jacob asked him and said tell me i pray thee thy name and he said wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name and he blessed him he said you don't need to know my name all you need to know is your name's been changed let me tell you god's wanting to make some new men and new women in this house there's somebody under the sound of my voice that may be out there listening you feel like that you can't get out of the sin and way you've been doing i'm here to tell you god can take the impossible things and change them to the possible he can take unchangeable things and he can change them musicians make you way up i'm going to head to close time would not permit me to detail all of the many changes that god made i could tell you of jesus encounter with the demonic of gatherings whose name when jesus said what's your name to him the voice inside him spoke it said my name's legions for we are many he was possessed with many devils the bible said he wore no clothes lived in no house they couldn't bind him with chains in pretty rough shape but when he encountered jesus jesus said to those spirits in him he said shut up and get out now i'm paraphrasing close your mouth and get out clear out and his name was changed from legion to the next time anybody discovered him they found him sitting at jesus feet clothed and in his right mind we who know what it is to be delivered can look back sometimes and say was i that dumb [Music] was my mind that messed up [Music] because now i'm at the feet of jesus he's clothed me he's provided for me and now i've got my head straight my mind's right you see what a difference jesus makes and an enemy torn life i'd ask you to stand with me [Music] if you're in this house today and god has ever stretched your provisions i want to take just a moment for a season of thanks i want right where you are would you lift up your hands i don't thank god if he's ever if he's ever stretched your provision jesus i thank you jesus i thank you that you're my provider lord you are the god of provision lord when i didn't think i was gonna make it when i thought my business was gonna close jesus you stepped in miraculously because i was faithful to you lord when i thought my job was gone some way somehow would you come on right where you are would you thank him if he's ever given you provisions that you didn't think possible man make this more than a than a before the meal prayer would you thank him for how he's provided he's the miraculous god he's the miraculous god he takes the unchangeable and he can change it now if you're in this house and you've been changed you came to him so low and he's changed you into a new man and a new moment woman i wonder if you'd lift your hands maybe start making your way out in the aisle and say god i want to thank you for changing me i want to thank you for the miraculous you've done come on right now now if you're in this house and you're needing something from god if you're needing your provisions changed by faith i'm asking you to step out lift your hands and surrender and say god i'm gonna give you my first fruit i'm coming expecting you to stretch my provisions if you're in this house and you're needing a life-changing experience why would you come to this office and say god change me change me change me change me [Applause] yes [Applause] you turn shame into glory you're the only one [Applause] right [Applause] [Music] what changed [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you're the only one who [Applause] cares i know there's nothing [Music] [Applause] [Music] nothing is better than you [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] you're the only one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you're the only one who [Applause] [Music] you see there's one more change that's going to take place some of these days first corinthians the 15th chapter said this behold i show you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump for the trump shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed i'm here to tell you there's one more change taking place for all those who are faithful for all those who've given their lives to christ there's going to be a resurrection time the dead in christ is going to rise first and we're all going to be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the lord that's why i wanted to live the changed life that's why i wanted to live the delivered life but that's why i want to tell everybody else about it i don't want to be selfish about this thing i want everybody else to understand the blessings that go along with this life we're living here i want everybody else to understand how marvelous it is to serve god how he provides how he makes a way if we trust in him what he will do for us hallelujah we have one ready to be baptized in the precious name of jesus this is another one of our little ones this is [name redacted] that's getting ready to go down in the precious name of jesus this is a life-changing experience family come on up here hallelujah let's pray right now y'all come ahead come ahead hallelujah hallelujah let's pray for [name redacted] right now lord jesus we come before you right now so blessed and thankful that this dear child has come forward seeing his need to take your name on in water baptism lord jesus as he goes
