Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

If It Worked Then, It Will Work Now

  • Some things never change: let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ
  • They that gladly received his word were baptized, and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls

Scriptures: Acts 2:36-37; Acts 2:41

The Day of Pentecost

  • When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues
  • The multitude came together confounded, amazed and in doubt, and others mocking said, These men are full of new wine; Peter answered that it was but the third hour of the day
  • This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel: I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy

Scriptures: Acts 2:1-4; Acts 2:6-8; Acts 2:12-15; Acts 2:17-18

Guard the Message from False Prophecy

  • Prophecy is not guesswork or observation dressed up as revelation; the prophetic word the church needs is the word already given in the book
  • There shall not be found among you any that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or a necromancer
  • Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 18:9-13

Christ Crucified, and David's Psalm

  • Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God by miracles and wonders and signs, was delivered and crucified, and God raised him up, having loosed the pains of death
  • David foresaw the Lord always before his face and would not leave his soul in hell, neither suffer his Holy One to see corruption
  • Preserve me, O God, for in thee do I put my trust; the Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, and the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places
  • I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes; what we put before our faces matters
  • David, being a prophet, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption

Scriptures: Acts 2:22-24; Acts 2:25-28; Psalm 16:1-8; Psalm 101:3; Acts 2:29-32

Don't Change the Formula

  • Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
  • For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off; save yourselves from this untoward generation
  • Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever; be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines
  • A company that changed its trusted formula learned to bring the original back; the apostolic Jesus-name message is not to be changed

Scriptures: Acts 2:38-40; Hebrews 13:8-9

Well Lord bless you. You may move to your seats. We greet you in the lovely name of Jesus. It is so good to see every one of you in the house of the Lord this morning. I want to say a special uh welcome. I believe I saw Sister Nevett and Sister America here. We're honored to have you folks worshiping with us. Lord bless you. The lights are bright, so I lose you when I get up here, but good to have you worshiping with us. Uh, and I I believe I saw Brother Thomas Bossak in the house. Been praying for you, Brother Thomas. God's still doing a work, believing the Lord for a special work in your life. I want to say happy birthday to Oliver Harvey, wherever you are in this house. Happy birthday to you. And uh uh I I just want to welcome everyone into this house. And I'll say I'm excited. We've mentioned it a couple of times, but Sister Matia is getting baptized in Jesus name this morning. Excited about that at the end of the message. And I I always say it this way. At least one is getting baptized. And if you haven't been baptized in Jesus name, today's the day for you to get baptized. We have clothes for men, women, boys, and girls. We have a man of God that will baptize you the Bible way in the name of Jesus. Uh so you be ready if God uh moves on your heart and I know he will if you haven't been baptized to let the power of the Holy Ghost minister to you and through you. Giving honor to Bishop and Sister Mcool. I give honor to my wife, our pastoral staff, all the workers and saints of First Apostolic Church. To everyone in this house, it is so good to be with you on this the Lord's day and I honor those who are joining us on our multimedia platforms. Thank you for being with us as well. Hope you can be here in a service with us at your first opportunity. I also give a bit of a u an apology and u uh ask you to uh bear with me just a bit. Um I don't feel as bad as my voice sounds. Okay. Uh it is that time of the year that uh uh this I believe the scientific name is we've all got the crud. Uh so uh uh I know we're dealing with some of those things, but please bear with my voice. Uh thank you, brother Moore, in advance for helping me all you can with the uh uh sound system, but there's only so much he can do with an old growly voice. But uh thank you for keeping me strong. And I will uh I will try to uh uh minister to you this morning as the Lord would have us to. and uh uh if you'll uh help me preach uh that would be greatly appreciated. You always do and I do thank you for your help. I want to take us this morning uh the past few weeks uh in study both with our curriculum for our Wednesday night Bible class and even in our message last Sunday night. Uh, I've been dwelling. Sometimes you go through the word of the Lord, studying and and being inspired and moving along chapter after chapter, but other times it just seems like the uh the Holy Ghost would have you dwell in a place for a while. So, we we've been uh preaching a little bit the fa past few weeks uh about the excitement of the church beginning and uh about our foundational doctrine. So this morning, uh, I want to take us back to a passage of scripture that we in the apostolic church know well. The book of Acts, the 2 chapter, we're going to begin reading at verse numbers 36. It says, "Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus whom ye crucified both Lord and Christ." Now when they heard this, they were pricricked in their hearts and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" For a few moments this morning, I would speak to you on this subject. Some things never change. Some things never change. If I had to subtitle my message, I would subtitle it. If it worked then, it will work now. Let's pray. Savior, I love you. God, I'm grateful to be in your house. tonight. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to carry your gospel, Lord. Not of anything I can say or do, but Lord, your anointed word that once again reminds us of how good you are and how marvelous your saving grace is to all of us. And Lord, let your word reach our hearts. Let it convict. Let it stir. Let it change. Let it let it encourage. But Lord, most of all, let it bring salvation to the lost. Father, we're grateful and thankful in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. I recently read an article from Business Insider that was entitled Objects that are perfectly designed and can't be improved any further. And I'll read it just a few excerpts from that. It says in the field of inventions and creations of products, some products are so timeless, recognizable, and intuitive that it doesn't make any sense to try to improve them. Peter Royals, an industrial designer at the software company solid thinking, gave insight to some products which are beloved by designers and consumers alike. While roads acknowledge that the process of design is just that, a process, some everyday objects are so efficient at what they do, it would be pointless to tinker any further. Products he named included the paper clip. Three turns and a piece of wire is all you need to properly secure a stack of papers. Invented in the late 19th century, the standard gym paperclip design has stayed practically identical since 1893 because it shape balances tension, ease of use, and paper grip. If it worked then, it'll work now. Some things never change. The swing line stapler, solid weighty feel combined with timeless look. It's the Cadillac of staplers. Ro said the Levi's 501 jeans. The original Levi cut is roomy enough for any wear to move around in com move around in comfortably. It was good for a ranch hand over a hundred years ago as it is for anyone today. Often intimidated but never duplicated. The big ballpoint pen. The product is cheap while still being durable and reliable. Sharpie markers. The look is sleek and crisp, not to mention iconic. People say, "Do you have a Sharpie?" he pointed out instead of, "Do you have a marker?" The Dixon Tyonderoga number two pencil. I don't know what ever happened to number one. The iconic yellow and green implement offers the best writing and erasing experience you'll find in a pencil. The spoon and the fork. Eating utensils have stayed mostly the same for thousands years for one reason. They get the job done. If you look at all of us, you'd agree. I did go in one place one time. They had something called a pork. Spork. Is that what it was? No. Pork. What? Comes from a pig, isn't it? But it had a fork on one and a spoon on the other. Sounded like a good idea. Told you you tried to use it. You were going to get something on your hands one way or the other. I promise you. The KitchenAid mixer. The strength and the beauty of the retrochic mixer has kept it in every serious baker's kitchen since it was unveiled in 1919. Chapstick. The shape hasn't changed in so long, he says. And given its simple and effective construction, it doesn't need to. And finally, the iron shovel. Patented in its modern form by Captain John Ames in 1774. The basic utility and balance of the iron shovel have required little to no re-engineering. Acts two contains the elements of the most important salvation message ever preached. It is the foundational message that began this great apostolic Pentecostal movement, the church of today that we're a part of. And I've been taught that if something works, you ought to stay with it. As we sometimes say, if it ain't broke, fix it. So, just what did Peter preach that could be so effective that in one day there would be 3,000 souls added to the church? What are the elements? If it worked then, I'm going to tell you it'll work now. Some things never change. There's a message that we still need to know, love, appreciate, and propagate to this world. >> Hallelujah. >> Yes. Acts 2:41. after he had preached the message said, "Then they that gladly received his words were baptized. The same day there were added unto them about 3,000 souls." Peter preached something that worked. >> So for us to understand it, I know you learn it. Studyers of the word are familiar, but it's good to review for for us to understand. Acts does not get begin in Acts 2 and 38. Acts the acts that would take place begins much earlier in Acts 1 when they've been told by Jesus to tar in Jerusalem so they'd be endued with power from on high. And in Acts 2:1, many can help me quote it. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, >> they were all in one accord and in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as a fire, and it set upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. Something miraculous, supernatural took place on the day of Pentecost. >> But you see, understanding what would happen after that helps us understand what happened back then still is happening today. For verse six says, "Now when this was noised abroad, apparently there was a noisy service going on in the upper room. When the Holy Ghost fell, it wasn't a quiet situation. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together. They started drawing attention to what was going on and they were confounded. They said, "What's going on?" There was a lot of questions because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvel saying one to another, "Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? And how here we every man in his own tongue wherein we were born." There was prophetic word going out. There was revelatory invitation going out. The Holy Ghost was falling. They were speaking with tongues. Verse 12 said, "And they were all amazed and were in doubt." They were amazed, but they were doubting, saying one to another, "What meanth this? What's going on? What what this what is this we mean?" Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine. Crazy bunch. They acting up and acting out. They're cutting up But Peter standing up with the 11 lifted up his voice and said unto them, "Ye men of Judea and all that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, hearken to my words." Okay, here it comes. We're going to start seeing what worked back then and let's see if it'll work now. He said, "For these men are not drunken as you suppose, see it as but the third hour of the day." Notice Peter did not deny them being drunk. Instead, he just wanted to identify the source of the intoxication. Let me tell you, we still need need to be drunk on a move and an outpouring of the Holy Ghost. It needs to get in every fiber of our being. The Holy GHOST STILL CAN TAKE OVER AND SHAKE YOU AND QUAKE YOU. Not to be inebriated with fermented wine, but to be full of the Holy Ghost to the point that it's in charge. It moves you. Oh, to compare the physical impairment created by intoxication versus a move of the spirit of God does not give the spirit of God move justice. But I'm here to tell you there was an emotional display going on. The Holy Ghost had fallen. THAT'S WHY WHEN WE COME INTO THE HOUSE OF GOD, you see some folks clapping the hands, some folks lifting their arms, some folks shouting and dancing, getting excited. It's more than an emotional display. It's the power of the Holy Ghost moving. >> IF IT WORKED THEN, IT'LL WORK NOW. Some things never change. >> So Peter stepped up. He said, "Let me explain what's going on." He said, "This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. He got their attention. He called their attention to prophecy that they believed in. What was that prophecy? And it shall come to pass in the last days, sayith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. What does all mean? You need some kind of theologian to explain all. All is all. All is everybody. It's not for some. It's not for an elite few. It's not for one nationality. IT'S NOT FOR ONE DENOMINATION. ALL MEANS ALL. He said in the last days, I'LL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT UPON ALL FLESH. IF YOU GOT FLESH ON YOUR BONES, YOUR SPIRIT, HIS SPIRIT IS TO BE POURED OUT ON YOU. >> OH, HALLELUJAH. I told you I was going to try to take it easy. I didn't mean to fib. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. It's not gender gender specific. It's for men and women. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your young men shall see visions. Your old men shall dream dreams and upon my servants and on my handmaids I will pour out in those days of my spirit and they shall prophesy. Now you start talking about prophecy and folks start getting weird sometimes. Is prophecy real? Absolutely prophecy is real. There cannot be pro true prophecy however in the church without an outpouring of the spirit of God. >> Prophecy does not come from man. It comes from God. Revelation. >> Notice Peter was not giving new prophecy. Peter was reaffirming prophecy that already been gone. Many times you're in prophecy when you hear the word of God repeated and preached. >> Oh, I I want to hear something prophetic. GET IN THE BOOK. >> The book WILL GIVE YOU PROPHECY. IT'S ALREADY BEEN PROPHESIED. I was in a service a few years ago and a young man came up to me. God was moving mightily and this young man came up to me and he said, "Brother Mcool, God told me that you've got a word for me from the Lord." And I felt greatly impressed when he said that. I said, "You need to go home and read." And I told him the passage of scripture that I felt like was laid on my heart immediately. You need to go home and read this entire book and obey it. That's all I told him. Man, he looked so disappointed. You know, I don't know if he expected me to tell him his social security number. Well, if he didn't know it, I mean, I guess I could have looked at his card and told him, but he was expecting some kind of supernatural revelation, but I would tell you the followup to this. Months later, his pastor came to me. He said, "Brother MCO, do you remember a young man coming up and you telling him to go read scripture?" I said, "Well, yes, sir, I do." And I I had no idea the young man's situation, but God did. His pastor told me, he said he went home and he told me later, he said, "You told him to read this and so." And he said it has changed his life. He said he's become the greatest servant and worker in our church. He said God used you to tell him about word. You see, it wasn't about me. >> It wasn't about me getting some kind of fresh revelation. I didn't know what his issue was. Didn't have any idea and I didn't care. BUT YOU SEE, GOD'S WORD MANY TIME IS ALREADY THE PROPHETIC word that you need to be hearing. Stop chasing bells and whistles. Smoke and mirrors. GET IN THE BOOK. LET THE BOOK TALK TO YOU. SOME >> HEAR ME IN THIS HOUSE. TOO MANY FOLKS ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY TO GIVE THEM A SPECIAL MESSAGE WHEN THEY WON'T OBEY THE BOOKS THAT HE'S ALREADY GIVEN THEM. >> And I realize that messes with some folks theology. Is prophecy real? Absolutely. But you must be careful to know the difference in prophecy and devonation. >> Some mistake the gift the gift of observation as the gift of prophecy. Be cautious ever saying everybody in the house hear me. Be cautious ever saying God told me unless you're absolutely sure >> that it was God talking to you. >> You might have had a great impression. You might have been a great observer and you may have a great intuition. But be careful before you blame some things on God. >> Prophecy is not an exercise to provide some individ or to prove some individual's spiritual superiority. >> It's not slide of hand. It's not mind games to elevate the one who would prophesy. In fact, Deuteronomy gave warning in the infancy of God's people. Deuteronomy 18:9 said, "When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone that maketh his sons or his daughters to pass through the fire, or that uses deonation, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter of familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord. And because of these abominations, the Lord God did drive them out before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. Oh preacher, aren't you afraid you're going to speak against some prophet? No. I want to speak against all false prophets. >> You see, prophecy is not 85% right. had a fellow tell me man, you know that that old boy, he's got something there. You know, about 85% of what he says comes true. Prophecy is not 85% right. >> Listen, if it's thus, sayith the Lord, God will do it. >> Prophecy does not guess. If we will allow God's spirit to be poured out on the church, prophecy will be fulfilled. His word will speak to us. It will instruct us. It will guide us. And it will bring salvation. IF IT WORK THEN, IT'LL WORK NOW. >> HE SAID, "Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your young men shall dream dreams. Your old men shall see visions or vice versa." and upon my servant and the handmade. I pour out my spirit and this will prophesy. The word speaks to us. And you see, some things never change. If it worked then, it'll work now. Then here's the message that Peter begin to preach. He didn't start out with a power of positive thinking message. He didn't start out with a health, wealth, and prosperity ideology. He didn't start out with a relative message of everybody sins all the time, so you're not as bad as someone else. Here's what his message said in Acts 2:22. You men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know. He made them admit, you know what Jesus has already done. You know what Jesus of Nazareth has accomplished in our community. Him being delivered by the determinate counsel and fornowledge of God. Ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. He started preaching the crucifixion message. Christ crucified. Listen, if our pull pits stop preaching Christ crucified and the cross, we're not using the same message that Peter preached. But you see too many Christ crucified in the cross has become the stop sign instead of only the beginning of the story. For verse 24 said whom God hath raised up having loosed the pains of death because it was not possible that he should beholden of it. If we preach Jesus Christ, his works, his death, his burial, and his resurrection, salvation will come to those who will receive it. That's what will make the church grow >> if it work then, work now. And then notice all of those who love hermeneutics and the Pymic prowess of a public speaker would observe the message and the way Peter presented it for next. He made sure he found a common ground to get the audience on his side. He started talking about David because this this bunch they revered David and the bloodline of David. So in verse 25 he said for David speaketh concerning him I forsaw the Lord always before my face. Now what was happening Peter again is quoting book he's quoting the Psalms. He said I forsaw the Lord always before my face for he is on the right hand that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice and my tongue was glad. Moreover, also my flesh shall rest in hope, because thou wil not leave my soul in hell, that means death. Neither wil thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption. Thou has made known to me the ways of life, that thou has made me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, now he's still preaching. He's quoting Psalms. He said, "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David." He's both dead and buried. In other words, David was not supernatural. He had the prophetic word. But David, the one you so revere our bloodline. While he was great in his time, he's dead and buried. And his supplrer is with us today. We know where he's at. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruits of his loin in David's bloodline according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. HE'S SEEN THIS BEFORE, SPAKE of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. THIS JESUS HAD GOD RAISED UP WHEREOF WE ALL ARE WITNESSES. OH, HALLELUJAH. IF THAT MESSAGE WORKED THEN, BROTHER WHITLEY, IT STILL WORKS TODAY. IF WE'LL PREACH CHRIST CRUCIFIED AND RESURRECTED, IF WE'LL TELL THIS WORLD ABOUT THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS, >> are you oversimplifying? No, it's just that easy. If you go back and read in Psalms, Psalm 16:1 said, this is this is the preface to what Peter preached. Psalm 16:1 said, "Preserve me, oh God, for indeed do I put my trust." You know, man, it seems like everybody's looking from generation to generation to be preserved. I mean ancient explorers came to the new world looking for the fountain of youth. Now modern explorers look for facelifts, wrinkle cream, hair dye, botox, and plastic surgery trying to be preserved as well. You see, David said, "PRESERVE ME, O Lord, for in thee do I put my trust. Oh my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, thou art my Lord. My goodness extendeth not to thee. It's not me that makes you good. It's you're the good God that can make goodness in me. But to the saints that are in the earth and to excellence in whom is all my delight. He went on to say, "Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god. Those who would not seek the true God, their sorrows would be multiplied. Their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my false lips." Then they were dealing with heathenistic multiplicities of gods, false gods, idols. David was denying all of that. It required sacrifices of blood that even blood would be consumed. These false gods required offerings of blood. He said, "I will not call on them once." But you see, as we disdain those gods, sadly, there are gods that have replaced it in our world today. The gods of drug abuse, of waste, the that destroy health, the gods of booze and drugs and broken families, promiscuity, premarital sex, adultery, AIDS, pornography, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and murders. David said, "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, and of my cup, thou maintainest my lot." And notice this again, because I'm telling you, when Peter preached, he had gone back to the psalm. This was he was he was engaging his listening audience who revered David. He said, "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places. Yay, I have a goodly heritage." You see, when the Lord is your inheritance, >> you are in control of your life and you'll find your life living in pleasant places. The noted Bible commentator Adam Clark said of verse 16, "Here is an illusion to the ancient division of land by the lot among the Israelites, the breadth and the length being ascertained by lines which were used in measure." He said, "There's going to be some lines, some barriers, some boundaries of life that you can enjoy." Verse seven said, "I will bless the Lord with giving me counsel. My reigns also instruct me in the night season. My reigns instruct me is a nice way of poetically saying my conscience will give me direction when I'm a child of God. You see, Joseph's reigns instructed him when Potterer's wife tried to seduce him. Job's reigns instructed him when he had the opportunity to curse God and die. How will your reigns instruct you in the night season? Can I resist temptation? Can I resist peer pressure? Peter was preaching a message of conviction to those that would listen. Verse eight of Psalms said, "I have set the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand. I shall not." He said, "You need to be careful what you put in front of your face." What are your eyes looking at? Psalms 101:3 said, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes. I hate the work of them that turn aside. It shall not cleave to me." Too many people are watching the wrong things. They watch movies they shouldn't watch. TV shows they shouldn't indulge in. They scroll to things that they shouldn't be looking at. And most of all, there's too many folks that watching everybody else live be judgmental. So now he's preached this message of David, David's words. He's given explanation to the emotional display that's going on. Peter's laid it out for them all. He's preached Christ and him crucified. When you preach Christ and him crucified, verse 36 from our original text of Acts two, it said, "Therefore, let all the house of Israel, all the devout people, these were not unlearned, and these were not people who did not want to know more. They were devout people, but they were genuinely questioned. These were the house of Israel, the Jews of that day. Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath raised the same Jesus whom ye crucified, speaking of their generation, their authority, both Lord and Christ. God made him Lord and Christ. When you preach Christ and him crucified, what happens happens? Conviction takes place. Now, when they heard this, they were pricricked in their hearts and to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" They didn't say, "Men and brethren, what shall we believe?" Believing was understood. If you believe, you're going to act on what you believe. They said, "What do we do?" You're exactly right. what they were doing. They were acknowledging that everything Peter had preached was right. There was something going on that they didn't have. There was a move of God in the upper room that had taken place. The Holy Ghost had fallen on them. They had been speaking with tongues as the spirit gave utterance. Said, "What do we do? What where do we turn now? You know it. Then Peter said unto them, "Repent." Tell God, "I'm sorry. God, I'm sorry for my sin. Be baptized. Every one of you." Now, in case you didn't know, every one of you means the same thing that all means. >> There's just some more theology there. That That's deep stuff. I know. Every one of YOU MEANS ALL. THEN PETER said unto them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you. How? In the name OF JESUS CHRIST FOR the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." That's what Peter preached. For the promise is unto you and to your children. It's a multi-generational promise. AND TO ALL THAT ARE FAR OFF, EVEN AS many as the Lord our God shall call." And with many other WORDS DID HE TESTIFY AND EXHORT, SAYING, "SAVE YOURSELVES FROM THIS UNTOWARD GENERATION." THIS WAS A SALVATION MESSAGE. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized the same day. And the same day there were added unto them about 3,000 souls. Let me tell you, some things never change. >> If it worked then, it works now. >> Praise team. Go get ready. Y'all sang a song earlier said, "I'll sing about Jesus. I'll shout about Jesus. I'll dance about Jesus." Why? Because the message of Jesus Christ is what moves everything that we do. It affects every part of us. If it worked then, it'll work now. Hebrews said it this way. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever. But verse nine said this, "Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein." You see, even in the world of religion. I I'll tell my baptismal team, Sister Matias, when we get baptized, I'm going I'm going to let the baptismal team start assembling and get her ready for baptism. Uh we're living in a day that folks have wanted to change things to make them more pal. palatable universally. Let me I gave you all of those products that had been uh basically unchanged because they were successful. Um I don't I won't even do a survey of those who remember it because you'll have to reveal how old you are, how old you aren't as I begin telling you about this. But for some of these young folks, this may really be new news for them. 41 years ago, on April 23rd, 1985, the Coca-Cola Company made a made history by replacing its 99year-old flagship formula with a sweeter, less fizzy beverage known as NCO. Some of y'all remember that, don't you? There was something going on with their number one competitor back then called the Pepsi Challenge. And through the late 70s and the early 80s, Coca-Cola was losing market shares to Pepsi because of blind test taste tests that were being publicized. I'm not here to have a a colon discussion with everybody today, so don't choose up sides here. Taste test results encouraged by the blind taste test showed consumer consumers preferred the sweeter taste of the new recipe over old Coke and Pepsi. executive decided to permanently replace the original formula. But you know what happened? There was consumer backlash. There was immediate outrage. The public reaction was swift and furious. The company received thousands of angry phone calls and letters every single day. Protests and hoardings. consumer states protests and formed groups like the Old Cola Drinkers of America, threatened class action lawsuits and hoarded cases of the original formula. Just 79 days later, on July 11th, 1985, a rattled Coca-Cola caved to the pressures and brought back the original recipe under the name Coca-Cola Classic. The return of the original formula sent sales surging and Coca-Cola Classic quickly reclaimed its dominant spot at the top of the soft drink market. New Cokes remained on the shelves under a different marketing and was renamed Coke 2 in 1992 and was officially discontinued in July 2002 due to poor sales. Don't change the formula. Don't change the formula. Peter said, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins." So why is it that there are so many these days when they go to a baptismal mode say I do now indeed baptize you in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Why? causing the second century council of Nya by the Catholic Church an ecumenical get together. We're going to agree on a new formula. For you see, nowhere in the lids of your Bible will you find where anyone was ever baptized using the words >> Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Now, I know this is rudimentary and repetitious to some of you folks that have been around a while, but let me tell you, we better keep preaching >> the apostolic Jesus name message. REPENTANCE, WATER BAPTISM IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION of sin and THE PROMISE OF THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. STAND WITH ME. >> DON'T CHANGE THE FORMULA. You see when Peter preached it, it was not to be poetic, but it was to give this simple salvation message. When they asked, "What shall we do?" Here's what he said to do. Repent. Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. That's why in just a few minutes, Sister Matia is taking on Jesus. It's symbolic of the death. When we repent, it's a symbolic. We're saying, "God, I'm sorry for my sin. I I cannot give the sacrifice, but I know that Jesus, you already paid the price for me." We repent when we're baptized. It's symbolic of the burial in the name of Jesus. It's taking his name on and we're resurrected symbolically to walk in the newness of life in Jesus. The death, the burial, and the resurrection, filled with the spirit, with the Holy Ghost, evidenced with speaking with tongues. Let me tell you, if you're in this house today and you haven't repented of your sins, it worked then and it works now. Some things who never change. I remember brother Denny Livingston pinning words to a song several years ago that was entitled Some Things Never Change. The course said he's still in the healing business. He can still make the blind to see. My God, he's still able. He's more than just history. HE'S THE SAME GOD THAT HE WAS back then. IF YOU'LL JUST BELIEVE, YOU'LL FIND he can do it again. WHEN IT COMES to the healing power IN JESUS NAME, SOME THINGS never change. >> Ultimate healing is when a sin sick soul is forgiven of sins and filled with the spirit. Praise team, please come out. We're going to have a little time of celebration and worship. That song that y'all did, I want you to get ready. I want you to sing about I'll sing about Jesus. I'll shout about Jesus. I'll dance about Jesus. And let me tell you, if you're you're in this house and you want to repent of your sins, we got an altar here that you can take the first step that Peter preached about. We've got a baptismal pool that will baptize you in Jesus name, the Bible way. And he's promised you the gift of the Holy Ghost. The altar's open. Could we step out and gather around the altar for a season of prayer, thanksgiving? You get what you need from the Lord.
