Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

No new sign: repentance is still the first step

  • He reads Matthew 12 from verse 38: the scribes and Pharisees ask for a sign, and Jesus answers that an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given it but the sign of the prophet Jonas.
  • As Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth; the men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah — and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
  • Nineveh repented and God stayed his hand, but Nahum records that the city later reverted to its evil ways; the Nahum word he delivers is that the Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked.
  • There is no new plan of salvation and no way around the first step: repentance — saying 'I'm sorry' for sinning — still comes before baptism, and neither money nor prestige can take its place.

Scriptures: Matthew 12:38-41; Nahum 1:3

Red, yellow, green: stop, caution, go

  • He tells of driving with his youngest granddaughter Eleanor, barely three: from her car seat in the back she reads the light for him — 'Poppy, green means go,' red means stop, and yellow means slow with a long string of o's — and he concludes that another generation of back-seat drivers is already being raised.
  • God has placed signs and signals along the spiritual road: Ephesians 4:11 says he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers — the word of God is the believer's book of signals, and pastors, teachers and evangelists signal when to stop, when to use caution and when to go.
  • Red means stop: when a pastor preaches hard against sin, he is not 'seeing red' — he sees you headed for a collision of destruction and is saying stop what you're doing; don't go any farther.
  • Yellow means caution, not speed up: Jeremiah 6:16 calls God's people to stand in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, and the Proverbs 24 teaching he cites warns, 'My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change,' for their calamity shall rise suddenly.
  • Green means go: Mark 16:15 commands, 'Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature' — and by his quick study the word 'go' occurs in the Bible 1,492 times against 'stop' seven times, so the people of God ought to be doing a whole lot more going than stopping.

Scriptures: Ephesians 4:11; Jeremiah 6:16; Proverbs 24:21-22; Mark 16:15

The hardest sign to read: yield

  • The yield sign is the toughest to obey because it says neither stop nor go: Romans 6 says, 'Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,' and, 'Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead.'
  • James 4:7 gives the order of it: 'Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you' — too many want to yield to temptation rather than yield to God.
  • Proverbs 6 describes the froward person — froward means willfully disobedient — who sows discord; discord-sowers whisper out of the corner of their mouth to gather allies for their opinion, and when something at church or at work is not to our liking we should keep it to ourselves or take it to the Lord and the leadership, never on a whispering campaign.
  • Proverbs 2 promises that when wisdom enters into the heart, 'Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee,' delivering from the way of the evil man — so some fights are not ours to take up, and unchecked anger will cost far more than the few seconds lost in a traffic jam.

Scriptures: Romans 6:12-13; James 4:7; Proverbs 6:12-19; Proverbs 2:10-15

Life on the highway of holiness

  • He reads 2 Kings 13: Elisha died and they buried him, and as a burial party fled from a band of the Moabites they let the dead man down into the sepulchre of Elisha — and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood up on his feet; some dead things come alive again when they are brought back to Jesus and to the original precepts.
  • First Peter 2 beseeches strangers and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, and to have their conversation honest among the Gentiles: people who cannot trust your word in the flesh will never trust your gospel, and with well-doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
  • Proverbs 15:26 says the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but the words of the pure are pleasant words — Christians ought to be the kindest people in the checkout line, because a kind face may open the door to witness.
  • Isaiah 35 promises a highway, the way of holiness, where the unclean shall not pass over and no lion shall be there; and Matthew 7:13 warns, 'Wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction' — he wants straight street, not Broadway.
  • Isaiah 35:10: 'And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads... and sorrow and sighing shall flee away' — on the highway to heaven there are no sad songs.
  • He closes with Romans 6: as you once yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness — and calls the house to gather at the altar to be recalibrated onto the right road.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 13:20-21; 1 Peter 2:11-16; Proverbs 15:26; Isaiah 35:8; Matthew 7:13; Isaiah 35:10; Romans 6:18-19

have a little church how about it would you preach with me just a little while calling your attention to the book of matthew the 12th chapter we're going to read a few verses matthew 12 beginning with verse 38 then certain of the scribes and of the pharisees answered saying master we would see a sign from thee but he answered and said unto them an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign and there shall be there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the prophet jonas for as jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth the men of nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation and shall condemn it because they repented at the preaching of jonah and behold a greater than jonah is here for a few moments i would speak to you on this subject can you read the signs can you read the signs let's pray savior i love you i'm grateful for this opportunity to carry your word i pray that your word would be anointed as it always is to minister to our hearts touch my lips that i may speak as your mouthpiece this day for all this we're grateful and thankful in the name of jesus we pray a man and a man can you read the signs in our text the super pious religious elites of that day are questioning jesus seeking a sign or a signal to reaffirm that god is both both merciful to the repentant yet just to the sinful reinforce it give us a sign from you you're making all these claims as you minister jesus and we want you to give us a sign and understand jesus knew their thoughts and he knew the intent of their questions he knew that likely the pharisees and the scribes were asking gotcha questions they were asking questions to try to find jesus in an inconsistency so they could make accusation against him and discredit all that was being accomplished with his ministry so jesus in his infinite wisdom told them you're looking for a sign he said only an adulteress an evil generation seek signs he indicted every one of them with that statement he indicted their generation and then he said there's no sign coming there's no new sign going to be given you see jesus knew that the pharisees were keenly aware of the story of jonah that jonah first had had to repent and then he preached such a powerful message that nineveh repented and god stayed his hand and did not destroy nineveh but jesus also knew the rest of the story because if you go over and read in nahum you'll find out that nineveh would eventually revert back to their evil ways even after they had repented and jesus knew that if he took too strong a stance here and tried to create some new sign for them there was a gotchy question they were trying to get him to say some kind of inconsistent thing for you see nahum said this the lord is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all acquit the wicked he was speaking of nineveh when he made these statements nahum was so you see jesus was letting the pharisees know look guys if you're looking for a new sign i got no new signs for you and let me tell everybody in the house today if you're looking for a new plan of salvation there's no new plan there's no new short catch the first step in the plan of salvation is still repentance from sin saying i'm sorry for my sinning if you're looking for a way around it if you're looking to pay penance if you think your money will take care of it if your prestige will take care of there's no new signs you still got to repent and say i'm sorry for my sinning you see too many times we kind of slide by repentance and try to go on those other things are extremely important we've got one to be baptized in jesus name today before she got baptized she said i'm sorry for my sinful ways she had to repent so let everybody in the house know there's no new step you need to repent of your sins well with all that said let me talk to you a little bit about reading signs and signals this past week i had the blessing of having some eleanor and poppy time now if y'all don't know who eleanor is that's my youngest granddaughter who is just barely three years of age she just turned three and mimi was that's her grandma sister jamie she was doing some work here at the church and anthony and kelly had some responsibilities and duties they were taken care of and i got to have some poppy and eleanor time and we got in my jeep and she was in the car seat in the back and she's real quiet i mean she doesn't say a whole lot i had to check make sure every once while zealand are okay are you doing i'm okay and so we drove here and there and made a couple of drive-through stops and i pulled up to an intersection and the light had me stopped and from the back seat i heard a sweet voice say poppy green means go and it shocked me i said that's that's my three-year-old granddaughter and so i asked her again i said what did you say she said poppy green means go well i thought i would pursue and see if that was just an aberration so i said what does red mean she said poppy red means stop i said wow but i thought i would get her on the third one i said well what does yellow mean she said yellow means slow with a bunch of o's down i was amazed that my barely three-year-old granddaughter knew what the signs and the signal meant in fact i arrived at two conclusions from that little conversation number one my granddaughter's quite brilliant she is astute and aware of everything that's around her and the second thing that i arrived or conclusion that i arrived at is there is already another generation of back seat drivers that are being birthed to tell me how to drive but to establish relevance let me go here i'll ask all of you the question how many just love getting caught in a traffic jam i see very few hands raised oh i just love sitting in traffic when i'm trying to get someplace you see some of the most calm almost unassuming people can nearly lose their holy ghost when they get in a traffic back up docile little ladies can become root beasts behind the wheel when there's a traffic jam road rage horns blowing short tempers so in our flesh and humanity one of the answers to traffic control is we've developed a series of traffic signs and signals we all know about that and along with that we have rules of driving that govern and manage traffic stop signs right-of-way signs yield signs traffic lights december 10 1868 is the official birth date of the world's first traffic light it was installed at parliament square in london the system was composed of two mobile signs attached to a pivoting arm that were manipulated by a lever stop go stop go the post was topped with a gas-lit hemisphere to ensure visibility but it was short-lived for less than two months later the traffic light exploded killing the police officer who worked the sign the world had to wait 46 years until electricity's use became widespread before the first dual-colored traffic light using this new energy was installed in cleveland in the united states detroit and new york added yellow between red and green lights in the 1920s the traffic light that we now know was born and became the norm throughout the world but we all know it even my three-year-old eleanor knows the sign it's simple red means stop yellow means proceed with conscious cut with caution or slow down and green means go but the pharisees ask jesus for a new sign so i want to tell you in spiritual terms there are no new signs either in our spiritual journey with god he has placed some signs he has placed some signals along the way we do not need new signs we just need to obey the ones he's already given us now look if you came expecting something deep today take off your spiritual galoshers you can put out it's summertime put on you your spiritual flip-flops it's as deep as it gets red means stop yellow means caution and green means go ephesians 4 11 said and he gave some apostles and some prophets some evangelists some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of christ the word of god is our book of signals how we should go when we should go and when we shouldn't go and when we should be cautious your pastor becomes your traffic sign your teachers become your signals evangelists preach messages that say when to go and when to stop and spiritual leaders who speak into your life do the same they will send some very simple yet straightforward signals as you travel through life if you'll just watch listen and obey you can make it to heaven red means stop you've heard it said it looks like some guy is seeing red and frankly sometimes your pastor your bishop they'll get up here and preach and you may think they're seen red but what really is happening they see you headed for a collision of destruction and they're saying stop what you're doing stop sinning don't go any farther i thank the lord for voices that have spoken into my life sometimes and said stop doing what you're doing put a little woe in your goal thank you bishop for stopping us sometimes when we thought we ought to go thank you for sunday school workers and teachers who have taught our kids to stop when sin comes around i'm thankful for those messages i'm thankful for the messages of caution but folks you see i've heard another definition of yellow rather than slow down i've heard something that it means to them speed up jeremiah 6 16 said thus said the lord stand you in the ways see and ask for the old paths where is the good way walk therein and ye shall find rest for your souls but they said we will not walk therein i got just two more vehicles that's got to get through the yellow some can never be satisfied in life unless they're busting an intersection of life just as the light's changing just as the enemy is is is trying to tempt them to bust the intersection bishop so eppley taught a couple of weeks back from proverbs 24 my son fear the lord and the king and metal not with them that are given to change sometimes there is a time that you've got to proceed with caution and maybe stop before it actually is read it said for their calamity shall rise suddenly who knoweth the ruin of them all but there is also some green light serving the lord mark 16 15 said and he said unto them go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature i love that wording it didn't say to all people it said every creature there are some things we preach the gospel to nowadays i'm not sure i can call it people sometimes it looks like creatures to me but you know god doesn't see through my eyes he sees through his eyes some folks may think i'm nothing more than a creature either thank god that he said minister go and reach the world all creatures go witness go praise go worship go to holiness go pray go forgive go repent yet some find it difficult to go when they're supposed to go every everyone else can be praising and worshiping having a good time they're looking around saying should i get involved in this go go worship go do something for god that's what your pastor's telling you that's what your teachers tell you that's what the evangelist go go go go go get involved you know the bible's too restrictive it's got too many rules those shout not there's there's an awful lot of red lights in the bible you know what i did a quick study the word go occurs in the bible 1492 times and the word stop appears in the bible seven times sounds like the people of god ought to be doing a whole lot more going they ought to be in stopping god wants us to go win the lost go minister do what we can for his kingdom but i've gone all there that way to get you to here for you see to most of our credit we do all understand and have down pat the spiritual directions of stop use caution and go those who desire to be obedient to god will indeed try their best to follow every sign god has led them to but there is a more difficult sign that's a little tougher to read nowadays or rather to obey for that sign does not tell you to stop go or use caution and many struggle with this sign both in the natural and the spiritual and it's the yellow triangle sign that says yield well that one's red that's okay too there's a red triangle sign that says yield that's a tough sign to interpret it's tough to know sometimes when you ought to yield and when you shouldn't romans 6 12 said let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin and then it turns right out around and says but yield yourselves unto god as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto god you see where we get spiritually paralyzed sometimes if we're not paying good attention we don't know whether we should yield or we ought to go on i saw a fella the other day i was getting on the interstate and he had stopped dead and i mean that metaphorically hopefully but he had stopped dead still in the merging lane and cars were trying to go around him because he should have been going he didn't know when to yield or when to merge or when to go and he was frozen at the wheel i've got news for you we sometimes run into the most problems when god gives us the opportunity to make some decisions for ourselves to yield means to give way to a force that one can no longer resist let me ask you today what are you resisting in your life what are you yielding to or what are you refusing to yield to today james 4 7 said submit yourselves therefore to god resist the devil and he will flee from you too many of us want to yield to temptation rather than yield to god i'm here to tell you if you'll get the holy ghost down inside you he'll get your mind right you'll start thinking right there's some signs that you'll understand when he needs you to yield and we need you to go on he said yell not your members as instruments of unrighteousness water instruments your flesh your actions your deeds yes even your thoughts don't let your thoughts yield to the enemy proverbs 6 12 states this a naughty person a wicked man walketh with a froward mouth that term froward means willfully disobedient you can be disobedient in ignorance you can violate a law that you didn't know was a law but there's diff there's a difference when you are willfully disobedient you're fraud said a naughty person a wicked man walketh with a flowered mouth his mouth is willfully disobedient he speaks disobedient things he winketh with his eyes he speaketh with his feet he teacheth with his fingers his body language is disobedience forwardness is in his heart he devises mischief continually he soweth discord let me tell you discord sewers are some of the most dangerous people you can be around discord sewers are those who whisper out of the corner of their mouth their criticisms they are not comfortable in alone their opinions do not satisfy them but they need allies that they can so discord among to cr try and create some type of controversy over situations that should be peaceful preacher you're not going to get specific probably there will be things in life there will even be things in the church procedures boy it's quiet in here i know you're listening there will be some things that you're not gonna like you know how i know i'm flesh i'm human and there's stuff i don't like if you think life's going to be perfect even in the boundaries and within the walls of the church it won't always be to your liking there's going to be stuff that you'd rather it be done different said different or conducted different and i get it and we're going to do our best spiritually and as a church to please everybody as much as possible but when there's something you don't like you ought to keep it to yourself or take it to the lord and the leadership don't go on a whispering campaign trying to get allies for your opinion [Applause] now again i this is not evangelistic this is pastoral preaching but this will keep you you know this works the same way at work well i don't like the new procedures what do you think well i don't i don't like the new manner you better keep some stuff to yourself take it we're supposed to be taken no place else you'll find yourself making enemies and causing trouble well you know i never thought of that but you're right now that you think of that i'm gonna say and before somebody's planning discord here and there now a discord sword it said then shall his calamity come quickly they won't know what hit him suddenly shall he be broken without remedy and he goes on these six things that the lord hate yea seven are an abomination unto him a proud look a lying tongue hands that shed innocent blood the heart that deviseth wicked imaginations feet that be swift in running to mischief i've offset about verse 18 there's some people that are good at being bad it just it looks like they're they'll go around the block to be bad rather than stay home and be good a false witness that speaketh lies and he that soweth discord among the brethren that's pretty sorry company to be keeping if you're a discord sower with wicked imaginations liars false witnesses god doesn't like folks to sow discord fire god doesn't like whispering campaigns god doesn't like when people try to cause divisions if you yield to unrighteousness scripture says you're a naughty person again that term fraud willfully disobedient proverbs 2 10 said when wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul discretion shall preserve thee oh if more of us in our day-to-day life i'm hoping i'm preaching something that'll take care of you outside the walls of this church i'm talking about when you're at work on monday when you get caught in another traffic jam discretion shall preserve thee understanding shall keep thee listen i believe in the second amendment strongly but there's a bunch of us need to quit worrying so much about gun control and we need to get our anger control under [Applause] there's too many folks walking around packing looking for an excuse to get into it with somebody discretion will keep you listen if you'll stay in the book and find out there's some things aren't worth fighting about hear it the easy way or die from lead poisoning sometime discretion shall preserve thee understanding shall keep thee man he cut me off in traffic i'm gonna be eight seconds later than i was in the first place to deliver thee from the way of the evil man from the man that speaketh forward things man don't take up fights that aren't yours don't look for an excuse to get into a tiff with some the bible tells us as much as life in you live peaceably with all men am i speaking be about being passive of course not the word of the lord tells us that we're more than conquerors but too many times our conquering attitude never goes outside of our flesh we don't want to conquer things spiritually we want to deal with it in our flesh and we never let discretion take care of us who leaves the paths of unrighteousness to walk in the ways of darkness here's those folks that are good at being bad again who rejoice to do evil and delight in the forward forwardness of the wicked they love disobedience whose ways are crooked and they forward in their paths you better look for some yield signs and some stop signs and detour signs when you start going down the path of frowardness and discord sowing instead what should we do we need to yield to god we need to commit ourselves to god i thought it quite beautiful if you read the rest of that romans 6 13 it said but you yourselves unto god notice as those that are alive from the dead praise team sang about it this morning they said this is the sound of the dry bone drattling there's one line in that they said just ask the man who was thrown on the bones of elisha let me read you a little of that second kings 13 it said in elisha died a preacher died and they buried him and the bands of moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year so understand the standing preacher the standing prophet elijah had been buried they'd put him in his tomb again it wasn't a tomb like we know today necessarily a grave and covered six feet over many times it was a a cave that had a stone over it or it was a pit that had been dug to er but bottom line is this after the prophet had passed invaders had started invading the land and as soon as god's people would bring up a crop the moabites would invade and steal their crop and and slay the servants and they were just uh terrible marauders that would come in well notice what happened and it came to pass as they were burying a man that behold they spied a band of men okay they were having this nice funeral old joe's done passed away joe's gone they were saying their final goodbyes to joe and somebody looks at uh oh here comes the mobites we gonna have to cut this funeral short they realize we don't have time to give them proper burial so what did they do they grabbed over joe's body and threw it in elisha's sepulchre and something happened when the man was let down and touched the bones of elisha the bible said he revived he revived there's some of us who've been living dead in sin need to return back to some of the precepts and the doctrines of the past to know that if we'll put ourselves under that authority you'll come alive can you imagine in the natural what happened they threw old joe in the tomb they took off running and who went past them running let me tell you there's some things in your life you may thought we're always dead there's relationships there's marriage situations there's issues if you'll take them back to jesus get back to the original precepts there's some things that can come alive you can hear some bones rattling follow the signs follow the signs see where real life is it said he revived and stood up on his feet get up get up get up get up out of that grave get up get up get up get up out of that grave you see there's some signs of life take place god looks for a lively church he's looking for a worshipping church follow the signs when it comes time to worship there are no stop signs it's go go go go go when it comes time to working in the kingdom of god go go go let me tell you you need to follow the signs sometimes even of resistance through through obedience resistance through obedience first peter 2 11 we read dearly beloved i beseech you as strangers and pilgrims abstain yield from fleshly less which war against the soul having your conversation honest among the gentiles i'm not worried so much about what you're saying during church god's more importantly worried about how we communicate outside the church with a lost world you've got an opportunity to be a witness i'm not talking about necessarily there's a time to preach doctrine there's a time to witness about the church but the first thing you need to have is an honest conversation that folks can trust your word if you're talking about lumber or cars they're not going to hear your gospel they're not going to hear the doctrine of the truth if you're a dishonest person because if they can't trust you in the flesh how could they possibly trust you in the spirit having your conversation honest among the gentiles that whereas they speak against you as evildoers if they want to throw off on you they can only do it because of your good works which they shall behold glorify god in the day of visitation submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the lord's sake whether it be to the king as supreme you mean i'm supposed to obey the law of the land yeah said it before i'll say it again don't ask the police officers in our church to fix your tickets slow down or unto governors as unto them that are sent for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of them that do well now does that mean if they pass laws that are against god's law that we should obey them absolutely not we should be respectfully passively civilly disobedient to laws that call for murdering the unborn for laws that would cause us to violate the word of god but it has nothing to do with you paying your bills on time has nothing to do with you having an honest report that the things that you do out in the world are above board and you're not dealing behind they need to be able to let you work at the cash register without worrying about you taking something out of the teal wow preacher i thought you wanted us to shout give us something to shout about for so is the will of god that will that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men now what does that mean that means if folks are going to criticize you because you're a child of god bring it on but they can't criticize you for anything else it will be unsubstantiated and it will be false they may not like your doctrine but they cannot question your honesty they may not like your message but they cannot question your integrity as free not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness but as the servants of god to be malicious means having showing or indicative of intense often vicious ill will christians ought not to be grunts apostolics ought to not deal like grumps in the world when you're in the checkout line you need to be the kindest person that there is it may be a rough day there may be a long line the little checkout attendant may be having a struggle you don't need to be the voice of grumpiness they ought to find a smiling face before you ever able to tell them about jesus they need to find somebody that's kind to them because you may open a door to witness oh hear me i realize this isn't a shout and service but i'm telling you something that'll make you the best witness you can be oh hallelujah let me hasten yield your members as instruments of righteousness to god don't be afraid to raise your hand lift your voice use your talent use your influence use your mind have a righteous mouth proverbs 15 26 said the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination of the lord but the words of the pure are pleasant words folks i look forward to talking to you folks ought to be excited when you come along man i like talking to her i like talking to him they are that's the sweetest person all of a sudden doors will start opening will you go to church some dif listen christians ought to go around smiling all the time the world will wonder what you're up to musicians get ready you see if you learn to yield properly you'll get on the right road isaiah 35 said in verse 8 and a highway shall be there and away it shall be called the highway the way rather of holiness the unclean shall not pass over it but it shall be for those the wayfaring men though fools shall not err therein no lion shall be there nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon it shall not be found there but the redeemed shall walk there there's a highway to heaven it's a clean highway it's for the travelers it's safe no line satan has a roaring lion walketh about seeking whom he made about satan can't touch you when you're on the highway to heaven no ravenous beasts no traffic jams why cause there's few on the road you see there's an on-ramp to get on the highway to heaven we used to sing that song my soul says yes yes yes to the lord had a line in it it says he set my feet on straight street i want to get on straight street today i don't want to get on broadway because matthew 7 13 said enter ye in a straight gate for wide is the gate and broad is the way there's broadway that leadeth to destruction and many there be which shall go in there's a traffic jam on now look oh you proofs close your ears for a minute i realize dc saying they were on the highway to hell see somebody just passed out in the building from another generation i am not on the highway to hell i don't want near the on-ramp i don't want it on broadway that gets me there i want to be on the highway to heaven we used to sing an old song that said well it's a highway to heaven none can walk up there but the purine heart oh it's a highway to heaven walking up the king's highway i want you to know my plans are to make it to heaven i'm going to read every sign i can read that's going to take me to heaven i don't want any detours i don't want anything that will turn me aside stand with me you see on the highway to heaven there's some good music you can hear some good tunes isaiah 35 10 said and the ransom the lord shall return and come design with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads and they shall obtain joy and gladness and sorrow and sign shall flee away glory and why do we get so excited up here they've seen songs of joy they sing songs of encouragement because we're on the highway to heaven we we've seen every sign we knew when to stop we knew when to show caution we knew when to go we knew when to yield and now i'm on the highway headed to heaven it said this i just i love really seeing what the word says it said and the ransom to the lord shall return oh by the way we've got one getting ready to be baptized y'all can start making your way up we're going to do that in just a minute and it said there would be everlasting joy on their heads [Music] since i'm making all of these [Music] traveling analogies i'm sure every one of us had i won't call it an opportunity i'll call it the experience of pulling up to a traffic light by something they used to call a boom car and all you heard if you haven't ever heard that thank the lord you know what i found out i later on found out that a lot of those boom cars the dudes driving those cars are wearing earplugs well dude at least give me some earplugs at the stoplight if you're gonna do that you see there's no sad songs and bad singing on the highway to heaven you pull up to the intersection there's joy there's excitement there's wonderful things going on and it said this and sorrow and sign shall flee away boy i had to preach to myself because i'm bad about that situation going on you know your your wife can read you like a book and i won't say one thing but i'll go to which i always hear what's wrong nothing i want to flee from sign i want to be in that land where it's not even any sign there's nothing on my mind but joy and peace i'm here to tell you if you'll get on the highway to heaven if you'll make yourself free from sin if you'll find the doctrines of the holy ghost doctrine won't limit you doctrine will lead you i've said enough already but let me say this as a final scripture romans talked about where to yield not to yield to the flesh verse 18 said being then made free from sin ye became the servants of righteousness i speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh for as ye have yielded that's past tense your members servants to uncleanness into iniquity even so now yield your members servants to righteousness and unto holiness if you're in this house today and the enemy has been tempting you to turn to the left or the right if you've been yielding to temptation i challenge you get back on the right road today this is a way to recalibrate where you want to be i'd like for every saint of god and every child of god that's in this house if you want to stay on the right road and you want to be on the road to heaven i'd like for you to step out for a season of prayer just a minute would you gather around the altar we're going to have a baptizing here in just a moment but i want us to come around for a season of saying god order my steps guide my path keep me on the straight street let me be on the highway to holiness and the highway to heaven would you come would you sing for us at this time hallelujah and deliver and heal and restore anything that [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i [Music] [Applause] [Music] doing [Applause] [Music] this is [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Applause]
