Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
What Is Inside You
- The lesson is titled 'What Is Inside You', with a secondary title of conflict resolution, part of the 'Leadership Begins at Home' series; the teacher opens with the homophone of no and know: no people, no conflict, but know Jesus, know peace.
- The main text is read from Romans 12 with comment as he reads: bless them which persecute you, rejoice and weep with others, be of the same mind, recompense to no man evil for evil, live peaceably with all men if it be possible, give vengeance to the Lord rather than avenging yourselves, feed a hungry enemy and give him drink, and be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good.
- Condescend does not mean being condescending: it means descending to the same level, waiving the privilege of rank, when dealing with men of low estate.
- Proverbs 14:4 teaches that where no oxen are the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox: if you want the benefits of people, you will have to clean up after them; a church that lets no one in would stay clean and empty.
Scriptures: Romans 12:14-21; Proverbs 14:4
Conflict in a Growing Church
- Acts 6 shows conflict arising as the church grows: a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
- The twelve delegate rather than leave the word of God to serve tables: seven men are to be looked out who are of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost, and full of wisdom, all three attributes together, in business as much as in spiritual life.
- A panel saying is quoted from brother Tim Hammond: the Holy Ghost does not always fix a lack of common sense; a person can be filled with the Holy Ghost and still damage their testimony through an unwise act or a dishonest report.
- Luke 14 teaches counting the cost before building a tower or going to war: the unfinished bank skeleton that stood for years on the corner of Merchants and Clinton Highway is held up as the laughingstock of builders who did not count the cost; before declaring war over any conflict, send an ambassage and desire conditions of peace.
Scriptures: Acts 6:1-3; Luke 14:27-32
Wars Come From Within
- James 4 locates wars and fightings not outside but in the lusts that war in our members: we ask and receive not because we ask amiss, to consume it upon our lusts, and friendship with the world is enmity with God.
- The answer is resistance rather than surrender: submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee, draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you, cleanse your hands and purify your hearts.
- James 1:8 warns that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways; peacemaking must be learned, because Matthew 5:9 calls the peacemakers the children of God.
- Hebrews 12 joins peace and holiness together: follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord, looking diligently lest any root of bitterness spring up and defile many; a peacemaker is not the same as a peacekeeper who enforces calm by force.
Scriptures: James 4:1-8; James 1:8; Matthew 5:9; Hebrews 12:14-15
Let It Alone and Wake the Master
- In the parable of the fig tree in Luke 13, the lord of the vineyard orders the fruitless tree cut down after three years, but the dresser intercedes: let it alone this year also, till I dig about it and dung it, and if it bear fruit, well.
- Some situations and people should be let alone rather than cut off: give the Holy Ghost and good teaching time to dig around a life before writing anyone off; meddling in strife that is not yours is like taking a dog by the ears.
- Mark 4 tells of the storm that filled the ship while Jesus slept on a pillow in the hinder part: the disciples woke him, and he arose, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, peace, be still, and there was a great calm; conflicts should be prayed about rather than rowed through with Jesus left asleep.
- Jeremiah 29:11 gives God's own posture toward his people: thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give an expected end.
Scriptures: Luke 13:6-9; Mark 4:36-41; Jeremiah 29:11
Reasoning Together
- John 14 promises the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who teaches all things and brings Christ's words to remembrance, and leaves a peace the world cannot give; without Jesus there is no peace, and 1 Thessalonians 5:3 warns that when men say peace and safety, sudden destruction comes.
- Sunday's text is recapped from Romans 12: love is to be without dissimulation, with nothing hidden or pretended, abhorring evil, cleaving to good, and in honour preferring one another with brotherly love.
- Isaiah 1 calls for reasoning: learn to do well, seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow, and come now, let us reason together, for though sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow; reasoning can turn a conflict into a blessing, as the parking-lot conflict with the city track meet became support for the school athletic department.
Scriptures: John 14:26-27; 1 Thessalonians 5:3; Romans 12:9-10; Isaiah 1:17-18
Communicate, Negotiate, and Conclude
- Hebrews 13:16 makes communication a sacrifice God is pleased with: to do good and to communicate forget not; and Proverbs 22:24 warns against friendship with an angry man, so no message of anger should ever be composed and sent, but written out, thrown away, and reasoned through calmly.
- Negotiation is not compromise: the doctrine and the standards are not compromised, but the parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16 shows a man resolving his way to a reasonable end, and some situations are better settled for something than lost entirely by demanding everything.
- The close is read from Ecclesiastes 12 out of the Bible kept on the teacher's desk: the preacher sought acceptable words, even words of truth; the words of the wise are as goads and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies; and the conclusion of the whole matter is to fear God and keep his commandments, for God shall bring every work into judgment.
- He notes that some expected him to read Acts 2:38, which he says he knows; the Bishop taught long ago that it should be Acts 2:38 in heaven, not in hell.

thank you so much for your giving thank you musicians uh for leading Us in worship we welcome you on this uh Wednesday night for worship in the word uh Pastor Whitley has already announced that uh because of uh the uh inclement weather that's kept uh several folks away that we were going to uh push back uh one week our uh uh series uh leadership begins at home our divided uh classes and I appreciate all of those of you who are here we welcome all those who you're joining us on our multimedia platforms thank you for uh being here with us tonight and uh so glad that you were able to be out and we always encourage everyone to uh um use your best judgment when uh there's a situation with weather they used to uh have a statement that uh uh five drops are rain could keep 20 folks out of church well we're not that way we're pretty Hardy Bunch we like to uh come to the house of God every time we get the chance but occasionally in this part of the world and I I do have to take just a moment to defend uh East Tennessee drivers if you would let allow me that privilege for you see uh we have a lot of folks who we are blessed with here at First Apostolic Church who have moved uh from uh as we all sometimes refer to up north wherever up north is I don't know where that line starts exactly but uh frankly uh uh it's a a little bit comical to some of those folks uh when we dismiss uh some events for as we call it a ski of snow and uh the way some of us drive on it you'll understand why but I've got news for you some of them don't drive as good as they used to when they get on these Hills versus ver the flat land that they came from too so I'll defend us a little bit but I will also say it's good to see all of you uh out at the house of the Lord tonight and we're here and I have the honor and the privilege of getting to teach uh Bible tonight as I told the brothers last week it's a quite uh ominous uh task to teach Bible when Bishop mul's uh in the house uh for he is uh the best in my book and uh he taught Bible preach camp meetings conferences revivals taught seminars at uh General Ministry Conference uh so anytime uh uh I have to uh teach especially in his presence is kind of intimidating but I hope you will stay with me tonight as we get into the word of the Lord and hey I'm glad to see uh brother Ashton DAV was good to have you uh back home uh his uh work moved him back to West Tennessee but East Tennessee is also always going to be at home brother Ashton good to have you with us tonight I'd like to uh get into our lesson for tonight and uh I I'll give you my title before I read a passage of scripture uh our title tonight and this does include leadership beginning at home uh but the title is this what is inside you with a secondary title we're going to talk about conflict resolution tonight that's something that uh all of God's people need to understand conflict resolution I'd call your attention to the Book of Romans the 12th chapter and uh I'm going to read it uh a few verses and comment just a bit as we read this for our main text begin with verse number 14 of Romans 12 bless them which persecute you and curse no not rejoice with them that do Rejoice weep with them that weep be of the same mind one toward another mind not high things but condescend to Men of low estate be not wise in your own conceits now let me pause there that term condescend that does not mean be condescending there's a difference the term to condescend in this instant means to descend to a less formal or dignified level to wave the privilege of rank in other words you get down on the same level uh with someone when you're dealing with men of low estate when you're trying to have conflict resolution verse 17 goes on to say recompense to no man evil for evil provide things honest in the sight of all men and notice Verse 18 for this is where we'll talk about conflict resolution and what's inside us if it be possible as much as lith in you live peaceably with all men dearly beloved avenge not yourselves but rather give Place un wrath here's where wrath goes for it is written vengeance is mine I will repay sayth the Lord you don't need to have wrath give your wrath to the Lord and let him take care of any Vengeance that needs to be taken care of therefore if thine enemy hunger feed him if he thirst give him drink for in so doing Thou shalt Heap coals of fire on his head be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good what's inside you conflict resolution let's pray savior I love you I thank you for this opportunity to be in our Bible class tonight for us to study your word Lord I Thank you that your word speaks to us it guides us it directs us it gives us the Liberties that we all enjoy it gives us the direction to eternal life now Lord let us receive your word and let us do all to please you in this Bible study in in Jesus name we pray amen there's a term in English for words that sound the same but they're spelled different and they have a different meaning they're called homophone a homophone and an example I want to give you of a homophone tonight is the word no spelled in o or spelled k n o w it's pronounced the same but it's spelled different and it has a different meaning and here's how I would use it to begin no in o no people no conflict simple as that there's no conflict when there's no people but k and o w no people no conflict because we all have our self will we have our differences of opinion and consequently there will be conflict when you have people you can take it even farther and apply it to our families no family no family conflict but KN and o w family KN and o w family conflict families will have conflict but the greatest part of using this these same two words is KNN o w Jesus no peace but no o no Jesus no peace aren't you thankful that you know Jesus tonight he will bring peace into your life he'll help you take care care of conflict his word will give us guideposts directions signs to live peaceful lives our text said as much or if it be possible as much as lith in you live peaceably with all men now if you want to use the no o part with no people or no family proverbs 4 144 gives you an example Proverbs 14:4 says where no oxen are the crib is clean but much increase is by the strength of the ox simple as this if you want the benefits of the pulling power of an ox you're going to have to put up with what an ox does in its crib you're going to have to clean some stuff up from the Ox being in the crib I've heard Bishop so many times give the example if we want to have a clean building and not have to even have any janitoral services at all don't let people come in here clean it up lock it up it'll be a clean building if we want to have a clean gymnasium we we believe in the place being clean and and together just just get a cleaning crew come in one time clean the gym up and don't let those honor Young Folks come in there and play ball anymore we'll have a clean gym but we won't have Young Folks playing ball either and getting involved in activities you see there there is a challenge with serving God being involved with and interacting with people but that's the same challenge of life and the same challenge of family so consequently we need to let the word of the Lord direct us and guide us concerning dealing with conflict and it starts with what lith inside of us what's my attitude what's my spirit what's going on down inside me the book of Acts the sixth chapter starts pointing out conflict from a growing Church did you know when the church grows there can be conflict in the church acts 6 beginning with verse number one says this and in those days when the number of the disciples were multiplied there arose a murmuring of the grecians against the Hebrews there was criticism of the followers of Jesus coming in because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration they were not taking care of the needs of the needy the widows that were widows indeed they were so busy doing the work of of growing the church and adding disciples to followers of Christ that they were forgetting about some daily needs and the Bible says then the 12 called the multitude of the disciples unto them and said it is not reason that we should leave the word of God and serve tables now they were pointing out that there was a need but they had been called to a specific task of the disciples and they couldn't stop doing the will of God to do some of those tasks that were needed to minister to the widows so notice what they did they begin to delegate it says wherefore Brethren look ye out look out among you rather seven men of honest report full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom who we may appoint over this business now please please please everybody in the house there's a whole bunch of good stuff if we'll dissect this one verse he said look ye out for seven men you're going to delegate you're going to do some appointing and these seven men had to have three separate and distinct attributes they had to be full of the Holy Ghost of honest report and have wisdom now I hope you will understand this statement and not feel that I'm blaspheming when I say but there are folks that can be full of the Holy Ghost but sadly they don't use wisdom there can be folks that are full of the Holy Ghost and because of slowful they don't have an honest report it took all three now again I I I won't take credit for this but I was on a panel and I I've quoted this in church before but I was on a panel discussion one time with brother uh Tim Hammond great Preacher Man Of God pastors down great state of Georgia and he was talking about folks not using good common as we used to say Horse Sense he said I hate to say it this way but he said the Holy Ghost don't always fix stupid he said good Holy Ghost fill people will do dumb things sometimes because they haven't thought about it and they hadn't really let the the the the word you see the Holy Ghost is that infilling that comes in you but we are still flesh and if we aren't careful we can find ourselves damaging Our Testimony Having the Holy Ghost but not having an honest report or using wisdom you see these seven men were being appointed over business could I pause and say if you're going to be in business don't lay your Holy Ghost down use the same principles of honesty Integrity all that goes with that in your business life and not just your spiritual life you you see you're going to have to deal with conflict even though you've got the Holy Ghost can you use wisdom you're going to have to deal with conflict can you have a good report of honesty and integrity outside the framework of the church it's one of the main facets of wisdom that the Holy Ghost ought to teach us is how to count the cost of some things Book of Luke the 14th chapter gives Insight here Luke 14:27 says and whosoever do not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple for which of you intending to build a tower sth not down first and cth the cost whether he have sufficient to finish it now this is a uh a beautiful way of telling us not to get in over our head financially or in our commitments and Bishop told you earlier we're going to be having a special service that we're going to have everybody no classes out everyone in that Bishop's going to be teaching on finances from a spiritual aspect you don't want to miss that but there are there are times that you need to count the cost just your fervor and your exuberance and your excitement about doing something still will not replace counting the cost of what it's actually going to take to be successful at the Endeavor you're trying he goes on to say less happily after he have laid the foundation and is not able to finish it all that behold it begin and to mock him few of the you who are in this place who've lived in Knoxville all your life uh and remember being in our neighborhood to this day where the Walgreens drugstore now stands for several years there was a metal structure it was a skeleton of a Bank building that they had started to erect that building many of you who were here remember that but the banker that if I call their name were were quite known in our community had invested unwisely and frankly shadily during the preparations for the 1982 uh World's Fair and they started building buildings and for a while they looked so successful but right over there on the corner of merchants and Clinton Highway for years stood a still structure that had come to a halt with the building because they hadn't counted the cost of all they were doing and it be came if I again I call their name it had a nickname for the while of their last names bird Roo it become a laughing stock of what had once been successful investors and businessmen he said you got to count the cost before you build a tower L you lay the foundation and can't fill or fulfill completion of the building saying this man begin to build and was not able to finish and then verse 31 this is a lesson that we all need to adhere to or what king going to make war against another king sth not down first and consult whether he be able with 10,000 to meet him that cometh against him with 20,000 or else while the other is yet a great way off he sendeth an ambassage and desire conditions of peace be careful before you declare war in any situation some folks no matter what the conflict no matter how small it might appear they immediately want to declare war it may be over a price check in Walmart they want to push the nuke button and have some great big controversy and and get somebody told I'm being cheated and they want you better count the cost before you go to war you better make sure first of all that you're right and you better also know how to look for ambassadors to desire conditions of Peace rather than looking for an opportunity to have a conflict for you see we said again we're going to talk about what's down in inside us are we looking for controversy are we looking to find a way to have a war or are we looking for a way to find peace there are some situations that aren't worth fighting over dad taught me a long time ago that a a good dog can whoop a skunk anytime but it's just not not worth the stink there's some things you get in the middle of fighting over you're not going to help but getting it on you and you smelling bad well some of you would be so caral is remember that great prophet Kenny Rogers that says you got to know when to hold them you need need to know when to fold them as well there's sometimes there's some things that you just ought not to go to war over it's not worth it too many people have lost their lives or their freedom over parking spaces belching contests Road Rage or the outcome of an athletic event read a story several years ago of two truck drivers that were on the interstate talking to each other on their citizens band radio and they decided that that they were going to get in a belching contest on the radio can you imagine they begin to be gross and do just that and before long they started arguing over who had the best belch on the radio and before it was over they pulled off to the side of the road to go to fisticuffs one of them pulled a firearm and shot the other one graveyard dead over a belching contest it would be funny if it wasn't so sad but that's the mentality that the world has what's inside me what's inside you if it be at all possible as much as lith within me I want to live peaceably with all men you see our way is not road rage our way is not getting folks told we're looking for Peaceable resolutions James 41 says this from whence cometh Wars and fightings among you they come not hence or from the outside even of your lust that war in your members it's in me it's in our adamic nature is the conflict that's created your life coming from inside ye lust and you have not you kill and desire to have and cannot obtain ye fight and War yet ye have not because ask not ye ask and receive not because you ask Aid that you may consume it upon your lusts ye adulterers and adulteresses know you not that the Friendship of the world is enity with God whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God you better be careful the neighbors that you become friends with you better be careful what you Feast your mind on you better be careful the things that the basic nature the adamic nature of the flesh that is in all of our blood if it flows over instead of the Holy Ghost Inside us we can find ourselves trying to achieve to satisfy our own personal lusts do you think verse five do you think that the scripture saith in vain the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth the Envy but he giveth more grace wherefore he sayth God resisteth the proud but giveth Grace unto the humble submit yourselves therefore to God resist the devil and he will flee from you let me tell you we need to have more resistance in our life of the attack of the enemy rather than giving in we need to have a resistance movement devil I'm not going to give in to the lust of the flesh draw nigh to God you know the devil don't want to be around God if you resist the devil the way you do it you draw nigh to God you get close to God draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you cleanse your hands ye Sinners purify your hearts you double-minded that internal conflict Sinners have dirty hands and the double-minded have impure Hearts James 1:8 said a double-minded man is UN unstable in all his ways we must learn frankly in our lives to try to be peacemakers rather than peacekeepers Matthew 5 and N says blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God people who are peacemakers are the children of God I want to be a child of God if I do I need to be a peacemaker Hebrews 12:14 says follow peace with all men and Holiness without which no man shall see the Lord looking diligent lest any man fail of the grace of God lest any root of bitterness spring up trouble you thereby many be defiled Hebrews 12 placed equal emphasis on peace and Holiness this is a Holiness Church I believe in being Holiness but I also believe believe this is a peaceful church I believe in letting the peace of God guide us and direct us you see there's a difference in being a peace maker and a peacekeeper he said blessed are the peac makers now the police are called peace officers they have authority to keep the peace and that Authority even goes as far as the use of deadly force but that should be the last resort not the first option back in the old west the cult 45 was originally called The Peacemaker but you see that's the way the world makes peace with Force that's that as I call it the nuke option I've seen preach preachers I can talk about preachers because I am one I've seen preachers that their their first option when dealing with someone that's got an issue especially if they're at odds with them bless God I'm going to call down the judgments of God on you listen God can judge who he wants to I'm not going to call down the judgments of God on anyone I want to pray for folks I want to find peace if someone is at enmity and odds with me if they're enity and odds with the church I want to some way find a way to lift them up in prayer and to seek the face of God God will take care of the Vengeance if there's need for vengeance we must not be a vengeful people Jesus told a parable in Luke 136 of the fig tree he spake also this Parable certain man had a fig tree planted it in his Vineyard he came and sought fruit there on and found none he was the Lord of The Vineyard understand then he said unto the dresser of his Vineyard the Lord it was his it was his tree but he had a caretaker a dresser of the vineyard who intimately tried to make the Trees of the vineyard fruitful then he said un the dresser of his Vineyard behold these three years I come seeking fruit of this fig tree and I find none cut it down why cth it in the ground the Lord who was simply looking for fruit now that's not our Lord but it was the Lord of The Vineyard in the parable understand he was fed up with this fig tree it's not producing tree every year I I come to this same tree at the time it should be producing fruit and it's not producing fruit he said cut it down what's it even doing taking up space on my grounds but you see in Jesus parable the dresser of the Vineyard The Keeper of the vineyard wanted to give it just a little more time he answered and said un him Lord let it alone let me pause there you know there's some stuff we ought to let alone you know what that means that means there's stuff you ought to keep your nose out of oh I mean I ought to keep my nose out of excuse me didn't mean to to direct that to anyone uh seemed like I read a scripture that said he who passeth by and meddle in Affairs that are not his own is as a man who taketh a dog by the ears you ever tried to pick a dog by up by the ears you know what's going to happen get bit there's some stuff we ought to leave alone and let God work out if you need to talk about it get on your knees and talk about it if you need to gossip to somebody tell Jesus about that situation but keep your self out of it he said let it alone this year also he said let me work on it he said Till I dig about it and dung it and if it bear fruit well and if not then after that thou shalt cut it down he said give me one more year give me just a little bit longer before we start cutting some stuff down in relationships before we let some conflicts cut our friendship and our fellowship off there's some stuff we need to let alone and let the dresser of the vineyard come in and dig around let the Holy Ghost and let some good teaching dig around some situation let let it be fertilized with with fertile examples of of a good church service there's some folks they they need a few years they need to go to camp meeting and conferences and they need to experience a move of the Holy Ghost don't cut them down don't Rite them off Hallelujah the dresser wanted to cultivate after all we know the true peace speaker if we're going to be a peacemaker we need to know the Peace Speaker you know the story Mark 4:36 and when they had sent away the multitude they took him even as he was in the ship and there were also with him other little ships and there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full please notice When Storms Come along sometimes we may feel like we're the only one but there's more Little Ships everybody's got storms going in their life at one time or another there arose a great storm and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full and he this is speaking of Jesus in the hinder part of the ship asleep on a pillow and they awake him and say unto him Master carest thou not that we perish did you know some of us need to wake up Jesus in our life he wants to help us but we got to call on him he arose he rebuked the wind said un the sea peace be still and the wind ceased and there was a great calm you know when you interject Jesus into most storms in your life that's when you can find calm problem is too many of us are still rowing and trying to keep Jesus asleep we don't want to be disturbed with dealing with Jesus you need to wake him up in your life don't leave Jesus out of your decisions you know some of us say well if it's a big decision I'll pray about there's some things I don't even need jesus' help you need Jesus helping every decision because every decision can be worked out and be an easy decision if you'll call on Jesus have you prayed about it we talked about that Sunday morning have you prayed about the conflict that needs to be resolved there are many situations that a good prayer meeting would solve and if the good prayer meeting wouldn't solve it it would at least set atone for reasoning and resolution Jeremiah 2911 said for I know the thoughts that I think toward you say the Lord thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end after all we can quote John 14:26 but the comforter which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever have said unto you peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you not as the world giveth give I unto you let not your heart be troubled neither Let It Be Afraid you see when the comforter which is in the Holy Ghost comes into your life you suddenly will have the ability to be a peacemaker in your own life you see the world thinks it knows how to have peace right now somewhere governmental leaders are joining together trying to find peace in conflicts all over this world but 1 Thessalonians 5:3 said for when they shall say peace and safety then sudden destruction cometh upon them no Jesus no peace no Jesus no peace you see we talked about love Sunday there's a passage of scripture in Romans that uses a the word dissimulation it said let love be without dissimulation the term to dissimulate means to hide or be under false pretenses love cannot be love if it's under false pretenses I said Sunday I'll repeat it again just because a grizzly bear hugs you but don't mean he loves you he got something else in mind there should be no disguise in the love of God in our love toward our brothers and sisters it said abhor that which is evil cleave to that which is good be kindly affectioned one to another with Brotherly Love in honor preferring one another what is my attitude in con conflict resolution do I prefer my brother do I have Brotherly Love do I honor my brother Isaiah 11:7 talks about reasoning some things out verse 17 says learn to do well did you know you have to learn to do good things that's why children seem to understand the word yes a whole lot quicker than they do no you ever noticed that if you tell your kids or your grandkids or your great grandkids if you tell them yes one time they're out of there but how many times do you have to say no no no no no no no no no no no you see you have to learn to do well but it's easy to not do so well seek judgment did you know that lets us know that our judgment sometimes needs good advice seek judgment relieve the oppressed judge the fatherless plead for the Widow Verse 18 come now let us reason together sayeth the Lord though your sins be as Scarlet they shall be white as snow though they be red like crimson they shall be as will it does not matter if your conflict is at work if your conflict is with your family if your conflict is with your mate let me tell you you need to come to the reasoning power to understand that no matter how bad the sin has been we serve a God who shed his blood and it says though your sin be a Scarlet it shall be white as snow if it be red like Crimson it shall be as wool there's a cleansing power in the blood of Jesus learn to do well don't take things personal even if they're intended to be sometimes you have to agree to disagree and still be civil and Christlike reasoning sometimes is reasoning some things out and it can turn a conflict into a blessing you know that if you'll reason a few things out it can turn a conflict into a blessing let me let me tell you about a a conflict we had here at the church several years ago that turned out to be a blessing we had a conflict here we have security cameras all over one Saturday morning we looked at the security cameras and I want you to know every parking place in our parking lot was full there was cars parked this way and that way and and we actually had a wedding that was supposed to take place that afternoon and we were like oh my Lord what are we going to do well what had happened the city of Knoxville had decided to host a cross country track meet at the park across the street now can I confess the first first time I saw all those cars parked this way and filling up our parking lot I feel like well who do they think they are to to come in here and fill up our parking lot and park every way and do all this do all that nobody asked permission what what do they think they're doing I'm just being honest with you that was my but I only said that to Sister Jamie I didn't tell anybody else that time she had hear my grapping but some of the that they by the way that day they all they had their track meet and they they cleared out before the wedding and we survived you know there was no extra tire tracks in the parking lot no trash so you know we made it but we got a contact we got an email from the city of Knoxville that they were going to have a regional track meet and they gave us the date and then they were going to have uh another uh junior high track meet and uh we got to talking among our uh uh cohorts in our athletic department down the street at the school they were charging people x amount of dollars to part down there and they were walking up the street and some enterprising individual said you know if we undercut that price just a little bit and we started charging people to to park here they would get the parking and our athletic department would get the blessing and so you know what they did they set up a barricade and and folks started coming in they said now what what are we paying for is this going to that church no this is going to the athletic department uh for uh their basketball teams and volleyball oh I want to give a donation and so help me what had started out as a conflict turned into a blessing for our athletic department you know there's some things you need to reason out before you just curse it all the time before you have some big now I realize nobody's walking the bench backs tonight and shouting Glory but I'm hoping that we can see that the word of God takes us outside the framework of just the church it will help us in our life be successful and avoid conflicts in this world you see Hebrews 13:16 says but to do good and to communicate forget not for with such sacrifices God is well pleased it is a sacrifice to communicate you don't think so see how many times you and your mate miscommunicate thinking you're communicating sometimes sister Jamie said you weren't listening no I just said I didn't understand it's a good excuse anyway do not attempt to communicate when you're angry let me give you a scripture Proverbs 22:24 says make no friendship with an angry man and when a Fu a furious man Thou shalt not go lest thou learn his ways and get a snare to thy Soul let me give you this is from the book of mul compose no letter send no email tweet no tweet post no Facebook post make no phone calls send no telegrams don't even tie a note to a carrier pigeon's foot when you've got a message of anger I mean some of us you can sit it in the body language with our phone just extra tough with your thumbs you know oh and Heaven Help if you're at a computer sounds like you're on an old typewriter you know you can hear it click it if you must compose things in Anger write it out and then throw it away back up and reason your way through it I promise you you will never regret backing up calming down before you send any kind of message and let me hasten toward a close let me talk about for a moment with conflict resolution understanding the difference in negotiation and conf romise we don't compromise the doctrine we don't compromise our standards of Holiness we don't compromise our way of living but there are some things that are up for negotiation Luke 161 says and he said unto his disciples there was a certain rich man which had a steward the same was accused unto him excuse me was a cursed unto him that he had wasted his Goods and he called him and he said unto him how is it that I hear this of thee give an account of thy stewardship for thou mayest be no longer Steward then the steward said within himself what shall I do for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship I cannot dig and to beg I'm ashamed he was honest he said I'm I don't want to work and I'm too lazy to or rather I'm too ashamed to beg I'm resolved what to do here's he's looking for resolution this situation because he's messed up here's he said I'm resolved what to do that when I am put out of stewardship they may receive me into their houses so he called every one of his Lord's debtors unto him and he said unto him unto the first how much owest thou thy Lord my Lord and he said a hundred measures of all he said unto him take thy Bill sit down quickly and write 50 then he then said he to another and how much owest thou and he said a hundred measures of wheat he said unto him take thy Bell and write four score the Lord commended the unjust Steward because he had done wisely for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of Life the example being given here there are some situations that you're better to get something out of it rather than getting nothing by demanding everything there are some situations we will find ourselves in that you need to negotiate your way to a reasonable end if you have to negotiate and then cut ties don't there is an old saying that says fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me very likely that steuart had to quickly do what he must do to keep his stewardship understand the importance of negotiating and understand the difference in negotiating and compromising so let me take you home let me take you to the conclusion in my office I have a Bible that I I keep on my desk uh most of the time when I'm in church I carry an iPad that's got all different versions of the Bible on it but I have a a Bible that I love to hold and I love to look at and read in my office and I have in that Bible I have the following passage that I'm going to read to you I have it highlighted and I have a have the marker the ribbon marking marker of the Bible saved here now some of y'all think ah he's going to read acts 238 no I know it but I have to remind myself of this one quite often Ecclesiastes 12:9 says this and moreover because the preacher was wise I want to be a wise preacher he still taught the people knowledge yay he gave good heed and sought out and set in order many Proverbs that's what we've been doing tonight we've been setting in order Proverbs in our mind and scriptures to understand them and then notice the preacher sought to find out acceptable words that which was written was upright even words of truth you see you can take the truth of the word of God and if you present it the wrong way it will be of non effect Bishop taught us a long time ago it should never be acts 238 in hell it ought to be acts 238 in heaven the scripture should be as verse 11 says the words of the wise are as gos it it pushes us it drives us and As Nails fastened by the masters of assembly which are given from one Shepherd and further by these my son be admonished of making of many books there is no end much study is a weariness of the flesh it goes on to say let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter and everybody gets happy when you say in conclusion here's the conclusion of the whole matter you want to have conflict resolution in your life fear God keep his Commandments for this is the whole duty of man man for God shall bring every work into judgment with every secret thing whether it be good or whether it be bad God's still in charge what do they say nowadays he's still large and in charge God's got this he will bring every work into his judgment there's some things we need to stop worrying about need to not fight about and draw lines about but instead we need to look for the peace of God aren't you thankful to know the Peacekeeper tonight and The Peacemaker would you stand up let's pray savior I love you Lord I Thank You for Your word God I pray that we would find Our Lives making peace with all men Lord that we might lead them to you Lord if we will live a Peaceable life if we will live a holy life pleasing before you lord it's not that your Saints would by any way not be strong in the word we are not going to be run over by the enemy but instead we will be wiser than the enemy that we have a greater goal of winning Souls now Lord go with us from this place keep us in your care bring us back at the next appointed time Savior for all this we're grateful and thankful in Jesus name we pray amen Lord L bless you would you greet your brothers and sisters in Jesus name you are dismissed
