Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The text: that which was lost is the relationship

  • His text is Luke 19:10, read with its exact wording guarded: the Son of man came 'to seek and to save that which was lost' — not simply 'the lost.'
  • What was lost is traced to Genesis 3: Adam and Eve heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden and hid themselves from his presence, and God called, 'where art thou' — the sin they committed separated them from the presence of God.
  • From that moment in the garden all the way to the cross, God had a master plan to bring that which was lost back to him — and that which was lost was the relationship between God and man.
  • Jesus takes the lost relationship a step further in John 4:23: the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
  • His ultimate goal in coming in the likeness of flesh and dying on Calvary's hill was to restore that which was separated — and that relationship tonight is worship.

Scriptures: Luke 19:10; Genesis 3:8-9; John 4:23

Praise is easy; worship comes at a price

  • Praise and worship are distinguished: to praise God all you have to do is have breath — let everything that hath breath praise the Lord — anyone can praise God; praise is thanking him for the blessings he has given.
  • In 1 Samuel 30 the Amalekites invaded the land of Judah, the land of praise, and took everything David and his men had — their wives and children, their animals, their clothing, their wealth.
  • The enemy knows our praise is determined by what we possess, and he understands that if he can take our possessions he can take our praise — praise is easy, and it doesn't come at a price.
  • Worship says: I may be sick in my body, I may have family members lost, the bills may be due and I've been laid off — but because I'm in relationship with you, I'm still going to worship you as my Savior and my way maker.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 30

Abraham called the sacrifice worship

  • The first time the Bible records the word worship is Genesis 22:5: Abraham, come to the place of sacrifice with his only son, told the young men, 'abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder' — not to sacrifice, not to do the unthinkable, but to worship.
  • Abraham knew what the sacrifice would require, yet because he was in relationship with God he named the errand worship.
  • The problem I'm facing may dictate my praise, but it does not dictate my worship; what makes me worship him is not what I'm going through but the relationship — time spent with him, knowing who he is.

Scriptures: Genesis 22:5

Job: worship that survives total loss

  • Job the first chapter begins by commending him: perfect and upright, he feared God and eschewed evil, with seven sons and three daughters, seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, a thousand oxen and five hundred donkeys — the greatest of all the men of the east.
  • In one day everything was gone: what Job possessed was either stolen, killed or destroyed in a matter of mere moments — the enemy comes to steal, to kill and to destroy.
  • When the news came, Job arose, rent his mantle, shaved his head, fell down upon the ground and worshipped, and said: 'the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.'
  • Job's relationship with God was greater than what he was going through: 'I may have lost some things, I may have lost my praise, but I will never lose my worship — my worship is a direct line to the relationship with the master.'

Scriptures: Job 1; Job 1:20-21

The one thing the enemy could not take

  • In the country of the Gadarenes, a demon-possessed man had lost everything: his mind, driven into the wilderness by an unclean spirit; his family, his job and his home, living in the tombs; his clothes; his peace and rest, crying out day and night; his sanity, cutting himself with stones — bound with shackles and chains he would break.
  • But when Jesus stepped on shore, Mark 5:6 says the man saw Jesus afar off, ran, and worshipped him.
  • The enemy can take a lot of things — possessions, praise — but if you're in relationship with God there is one thing he will never take: 'he cannot take my worship; he cannot take my relationship.'
  • Praise will get you into his presence — he inhabits the praises of his people — but worship will get you into his relationship.

Scriptures: Mark 5:6

Worship is inward, and it must deem him worthy

  • Praise is an outward expression but worship is an inward experience: if I lost my voice, my hands, my legs, no one would know — but down inside there is relationship and there is worship, because worship comes from deep in the heart.
  • You cannot worship God in the flesh: praise is something we do, worship is something we live — praise is an action, worship is a lifestyle; praise needs music to move, worship just needs a move of his spirit.
  • His Papua New Guinea account: people who travelled days to a conference, who slept in tents and sat on dirt floors with straw, who wore the same clothes every service — every service found them on their faces in worship, because they were in relationship with Jesus; over fifty received the Holy Ghost there, over thirty in one service, and it was not the preaching — it was worship.
  • In the altar call he asks for worship without the music as a crutch: 'I'm not here to ask God for anything — not healing, not a new job, not a blessing or a miracle — I'm just here to worship you because I'm in relationship with him.'
  • The word worthy carries the word worth: worship has no bargain-basement price — 'you've got to pay the full price for worship if you're going to worship him' — and a church reaches the next level only through worship, never through praise alone.

if you have your Bibles turn with me to Luke the nineteenth chapter and I'm so thankful for what brother carpenter did because I don't know if he felt it or not but there was a shift and the atmosphere shift in the spirit and I'm thankful for that tonight because I believe it goes along that that feeling that I feel in here tonight goes along with what I'm going to preach and I'm expecting God to do something great in our lives tonight and loot the 19th chapter verse number 10 and by the way the way the tennessee volunteers have been play Adeem don social media that i was in the transfer port portal for being a fan and i was a free agent fan now and I had my first bribe tonight to switch teams where the Jason Hillier brought me a beautiful North Carolina Tar Heel tie and so he's already bribing me to twitch to his team but there's orange oh I'm not even going there Luke the 19th chapter verse number 10 a lot of scriptures in the Bible are misquoted a lot of scriptures people make up that are in the Bible they're not even there this is one of the ones that are Mis quoted it says for the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost some people say he came to seek and to save the Lost and I'm thankful that he did but the Bible doesn't save those exact words it said he came to seek and to save that which was lost and so I want to preach to you simply on that fault tonight that which was lost would you lift your hands and hearts to heaven and let's talk to him one more time in this service over we love you and we thank you God for your spirit we thank you for your power we thank you for your anointing that we feel in this house right now God I'm asking you to speak to us through your word anoint me to preach it God and all your people to hear it to receive it and to respond to it today moving this house Lord let us leave this house different than what we walked in and we give you great praise for what you're going to do in this house in the mighty name of Jesus we pray amen would you clap your hands to him one more time and shout it to God with a voice of triumph hallelujah hallelujah thank you Jesus thank you you can be seated to find out what the VAT is in this scripture you have to go all the way back to the book of Genesis Genesis the third chapter verse number eight says Adam and Eve heard the voice of the Lord of God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden and the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto Him where art thou in other words the sin that they had committed had separated them from the presence of God and from that moment in the garden all the way into the cross God had a master plan to bring that which was lost back to him and that which was lost was the relationship between God and man and Jesus takes this relationship that was lost a step further in John 4 and 23 speaking to the woman on the whale he said but the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the father in spirit and in truth for the father seeketh such to worship him in other words what God is saying is the reason he came it wasn't just to die for our sins and yes he did that it wasn't just to come and perform miracles and yes he did that but his ultimate goal when he came in the likeness of flesh and he died on a cruel cross on Calvary's Hill was he was trying to restore that which was lost that which was separated and that is the relationship between God and man and that relationship tonight is worship the major difference between between worship and praise is this - praise God all you have to do is have breath let everything that has breath praise the Lord anyone can praise God that's why you can you can hear people that curse God in their music in their movies when they win an award the first thing they do is I want to give God praise for this award because anybody can praise God it's easy to praise God all you have to do is be breathing to praise God and in Samuel the first center of the 30th chapter the Bible says that the Amalekites invaded the land of Judah we know what Judah represents the land of praise and the Bible records that the Amalekites took all their stuff they took their wives and their children they took their animals they took their clothing they took their wealth they stole everything that David and his men had they came to the land of Judah and they took their stuff because the enemy knows that our praise is determined by what we possess and he understands if he can take our possessions then he can take our praise because that's what praise is God I thank you for another day I thank you for a nice house I thank you for a car to drive I thank you for food to eat god I praise you for the the family you've given me I praise you for the job that you've given me that's what praise is we're thanking him and praising him for all the blessings that he's given to us but praise is easy praise doesn't come at a price but worship comes at a price tonight worship comes through relationship worship takes us a step further than what praise will do anybody can praise God but not everybody can worship God see worship says I don't feel like praising you go but my relationship with you tells me to worship you worship says I may be sick in my body but because I'm in relationship with you I'm still gonna come to the house of God and worship you worship says I may have family members that are lost tonight but because I'm in relationship with you I'm still gonna come and worship you as my Savior worship says the bills are due and I'm broken I've been laid off from my job but God I'm still gonna worship you because I'm in relationship with you I'm still gonna worship you as my way maker tonight I don't feel like raising you right now God but I'm gonna step into a realm of relationship and I'm gonna worship you tonight so even if I don't feel like it and even if I can't see him my relationship tells me to worship Him as a matter of fact the first time that the Bible ever records the word worship it's found in Genesis 22 and 5 it says but God tells Abraham to take His only Son we know he had another son but God only recognizes that which is born of the Spirit he doesn't recognize that which is born in the flesh and he said and Abraham I want you to sacrifice your only son to me and so Abraham in Genesis 22 and 5 he comes to the place of sacrifice the mountain and he tells the young men the servants he said abide he here with the ass and I and the lad will go yonder that makes it sound like Abraham was from Blood County we'll go yonder not to sacrifice not to do the unthinkable but Abraham said we're going yonder to worship see Abraham had sacrificed before he knew what it took to sacrifice he knew that he would have to lay his son on an altar he knew he would have to take a knife and slice his throat he knew that he would have to take that same knife and literally divide his son into two pieces he knew that he would have to offer the remains of his son as a burnt sacrifice to God but Abraham when he came to the place of sacrifice he did not say I'm going to sacrifice I'm going to do the unthinkable I'm going to do the unreasonable but Abraham because he was in relationship with God Abraham said I'm going to worship Him see the problem that I'm facing tonight it may dictate my praise but it does not dictate my worship what I'm going through right now does it say make me worship Him what makes me worship him is the relationship that I'm in it's not what I'm going through that makes me worship him but it's because I have spent time with him and because I know who he is and though I may be sick and though I may be heartbroken and though I may be distressed and I may be discouraged but the cause I'm in relationship with him I'm gonna lift my hands and I'm gonna say God I don't understand why I'm going through it and I don't know why you're allowing me to go through it and I don't know how long I'm gonna have to go through it but the closer you and I are in relationship God I'll just lift my hands and I worship you tonight and Jove the first chapter the Bible begins by bragging on Joe says he's perfect and upright he feared God he hated evil he had seven sons and three daughters his substance was seven thousand sheep three thousand camels a thousand oxen and five hundred donkeys he had a very great household as a matter of fact he was known as the greatest of all the men of the East but in one day everything that I just listed out to you in three scriptures and and above was gone in one day in a matter of moments the enemy came and took everything away Jesus tells us in the New Testament that the enemy comes to steal to kill and to destroy and that's exactly what he did to job everything Joe possessed was either stolen killed or destroyed in a matter of mere moments what would joke do now what would you do often thought about reading and studying the life of Jobe how would I respond if in one moment in one day everything that I own and everything that was precious to me was taken from me I imagine many of us would quit church many of us would shake her hand or fist in the face of God angry why god I've been faithful to you why are you doing this to me God many of us would never be seen or heard from again but Jobe the Bible says in verse 20 when he gets the news of everything being taken from him that job gets up and here it's his man 20 shaves his head and he fell down on the ground and worshiped and he said the Lord gave and the Lord had taken away but blessed be the name of the Lord in other words Joe said my relationship with God is greater than what I'm going through right now and I may not feel like praising him because everything I have is gone and I may not feel like praising him right now because all ten of my children are dead and I may have lost some things I may have lost my praise but I will never lose my worship because my worship goes beyond what I have and what's been given to me my worship is a direct line to the relationship with the master tonight I wonder if there somebody would say I'm gonna step out of what I'm going through right now I'm gonna step out the pressures of life I'm stepping out of the pain and the heartache I don't feel like praising God right now I've got too much going wrong but because I've been in relationship with him for many years I may not feel like dancing I may not feel like running but the cause of my relationship I'm still here and I'm still worshiping him tonight come on somebody worship Him in this house in the country of the gadarenes we find a story of a demon-possessed man that had lost everything he had lost his mind because the Bible records that an unclean spirit would drive him into the wilderness he had lost his family his job in his home because the Bible says he was living in tombs he'd lost his clothes because the Bible tells us that he didn't wearing it he had lost his peace and his rest because scripture records that he was crying out day and night he had lost his sanity because we can read that he was taking stones and cutting himself as a matter of fact the townspeople would try to corral him and control him by binding him with shackles and chains but the spirits in him were so powerful that they would cause him to break the chains and smash the shackles the enemy had taken everything from him no doubt the enemy had stolen his preys because he took his possessions but there was one thing that the enemy could not take from him because in mark the fifth chapter in verse number six it says when he saw Jesus afar off he ran this naked man that had scars on his arms from cutting himself this man who had had fetters hanging off of his hands and feet this man who had lost all dignity that the demons were so powerful in him that they controlled every move he made but when Jesus stepped on shore when Jesus the sandal clad foot of the master stepped off of the boat and touch the shore this man who the demons had taken everything from the Bible says he came and he worship Him because the enemy can take a lot of things from you tonight he could take a lot of things he can wreck your marriage he can make your children backslide he can tempt you he can cause you grief and heartache and pain but if you're in relationship with God there's one thing that he'll never be able to take and that's why some of you even though you've been going through a literal hell on earth you're still here tonight that's why some of you going through what you've been going through and dealing with what you've been dealing with you're still here because the enemy cannot take my worshiper he cannot take my relationship see God wants to take somebody to another level tonight that prays will never get you to God wants to take this church to another level tonight that prays will not get you to see I know what the Bible says he inhabits the praises of his people and prays will get you into his presence but worship will get you into his relationship I've often thought to myself what is worship what if I pass the carpenter what if I didn't have a voice what if I lost my voice not laryngitis but if I lost my voice forever and I couldn't sing and I couldn't say hallelujah ever again what what if I didn't I didn't have any hands to clap what if I didn't have arms to lift up and praise what if I didn't have legs to run and jump with what if I didn't have feet to dance with no one would know because they couldn't hear me and they couldn't see me but down here see praise is an outward expression but worship is an inward experience praise is easy praise comes from everything that's going on around me but worship comes from down deep in my heart and even though I may not utter a word and even though you may not see me clap and even though you may not see me running out there's relationship and me and there's worshipping me and god I don't even have to say a word I can just bask in your presence because we're in relationship and I worship you tonight we need to we need to step out of the flesh tonight because you can praise God in your flesh as a matter of fact your flesh likes it flesh likes to praise God because it feels good and it's fun but you cannot worship God in your flesh flesh likes to praise but worship takes another level because worship what you can't worship in your flesh because worship will cost you some things tonight is there anybody here that wants to step out of your flesh step out of your circumstances tonight and says I'm not here just to praise God but I'm here to worship You Jesus we need to step to another level of worship and relationship that praise will never get me to and if you want to go to another level if you want to go to another level in him it's only going to come through worship if this church is going to go to another level in him it has to come through worship tonight see worship says my life may be in shambles but he's still worthy worship says my marriage may be shattered but he's still worthy worship says the doctor may have given me a bad report this week but he's still worthy worship says my body doesn't feel like praising him tonight but he is still worthy you know something I've noticed about worshipers worshipers don't backslide I've never seen a true worshipper backslide because the worshipers aren't just living in a moment of praise true worshipers are living in a lifetime of relationship praise is something that we do but worship is something that we live praise is an action but worship is a lifestyle see man says to praise God but God says for man to worship Him and I believe I'm not saying this church but I believe the church overall I believe we have become professional appraisers and weak worshipers not everybody here is called to preach not everybody's called to teach or sing or play but all of us every single one of us in here tonight young to old longtime member the first time yes every single one of us are called to be worshipers praise needs music to move but worship just needs a move of his spirit praise needs a beat but worship just needs to be in his presence tonight you want to see a revival and harvest like you've never seen before step into a realm of worship you want to see the miraculous done in every service step into a realm of worship you want to see this supernatural become natural we need to step into a realm of worship God gave me this message after I got to visit Papua New Guinea whether Exxon's going there tomorrow he's been there before he so he's going to know what I'm talking about but if they would start rolling those pictures for me what's a Papua New Guinea not knowing what to expect I've been to several countries and experienced God and four countries different ways of worship and praise but what I found and Papa New Guinea was a beautiful group of people a wonderful group of people that really have nothing in life many of them traveled from days upon days to get to the conference some came by taxi some came by vans some came by by even horse-drawn wagons some came on motorcycles some came in the back of pickup trucks but they traveled from all over the country to come to the conference they slept many of them slept in a big tent like we would have a tent revival on the property others slept inside the church wasn't being used for service that the church there they don't have a miracle miracle what they basically have is a glorified Shack open-air we'd be having church and chickens and dogs that just come walking in cats will come walking in the service they didn't have this beautiful carpet that you have they had dirt floors with a little bit of straw thrown on it they didn't have these comfortable pews that you have they didn't even have seats they set on the ground during church and I thought to myself why are they here why did they come to church they don't have anything many of them wore the same clothes every single service there very little to eat very most of them don't even have running water in their house and plumbing and electricity have they have nothing compared to what we have but you know what I experienced on that little island that I've never experienced anywhere else in the world like it every single service we didn't even get to finish our message it wasn't dancing and shouting pastor carpenter they didn't run the aisles they weren't shouting and thanking God for a multi-million dollar bill buildings paid off they weren't shouting God for the jobs that they had in the clothes that they had because many of them don't have any of those things but every service you could find them on their face and dirt and straw clothes getting dirty many of them didn't even have shoes on their feet and what I witnessed in Papua New Guinea is a group of people that don't have a whole lot to praise God for but you know what they didn't say I don't care about the praise it's not about the show I didn't come to show off my new suit or my new dress I didn't come to see how many people can watch me dance and spin and twirl and run the aisles I'm not here but for one reason I'm in relationship with Jesus and I'm gonna follow my face and I'm going to worship Him and I've been so convicted ever since I came home god help the American Church to get over our spooled mentality that the air has to be perfect and the music has to be perfect and the preaching has to be perfect god help us to get past ed and realize this isn't about us this is about his worship it's about relationship with him mr. Eriksen I don't want any music because you know what I think music does we use that as a crutch for altar service as a matter of fact you know what I think Jesus would like to see in this service tonight I think he would like to see those that lead us in praise up here lead us in worship down here because you know what worshipers you know something else I found out about worshipers worshipers don't need an altar call worshipers create altar calls come on is there any worshipers in the house it's gonna feel awkward at first because our flesh is used to some music pushing us drowning out our voice but I wonder is there some worshipers in the house tonight I'm not here to ask God for anything I'm not praying for me I'm not praying for anybody else I'm just here to worship You Jesus I'm not asking for healing I'm just worshiping I'm not asking for a new job I'm just worshiping I'm not asking for a blessing or a miracle I'm just worshiping right now because I'm in relationship with him I'm not here to praise right now we've praised already but I'm here to worship I worship You Jesus I worship You Jesus come on praise singer worship Him come on musician worship Him come on choir member worship Him come on preacher worship Him come on Sunday school teacher Christians school teacher worship Him come on saint of God worship Him in this atmosphere you don't have to ask God for anything if you need healing it can happen through your worship right now if you need the Holy Ghost it can happen through your worship right now if you need to live once it can happen through your worship right now I didn't come with a praise but my relationship says I've got a worship I don't feel like raising you right now God but my relationship says I've got to worship you I believe God's taking FAC marival if they see Sevierville to another level through worship tonight it's a deeper level of relationship that I'll never experience the praise I know your flesh is telling you to stop right now but you got to press through your flesh right now this isn't about just a five-minute altar call they said about dancing in the aisles this is about worship right now worship Him worship Him worship Him worship Him if that conference that Papua New Guinea we had over 50 people through with the Holy Ghost over 30 in one service wasn't because of the preaching it was because they tapped into something called worship what would happen in the American church tonight what would happen here in Maryville tonight if right in the middle of a multi-million dollar facility with beautiful carpet beautiful decorations air-conditioning clothes shoes on our feet plenty of money plenty of food good jobs nice cars and homes if we can step out of the end of Norrell step out of the run Dana step out of just going through the motions and tap into a realm of worship that we've never felt before I worship you I wish somebody that's sick in your body would worship Him I wish somebody would grab the hand of their spouse especially if you're having marital problems and just worship Him because worshipping Him will do more than any counselor session you'd ever do for you worship can do more than any medicine they can ever do for you somebody that lost their job you didn't feel like praising God tonight cuz you're depressed you ought to lift your hands and just say I'm gonna worship You God because you're my waymaker you're my problem solver somebody that's bound lift your hands and worship worship you we worship you oh thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord oh thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord oh thank you God praise God hallelujah lord I need you worthy God I deem you worthy God God I deem you worthy God I place value upon you Lord right now y'all I place value upon you Lord right now Lord I deem you worthy God God you don't have to do one more thing from me God Lord you don't have to do one more thing y'all you've already done more for me than I dare deserve y'all you don't have to answer one more prayer from me God y'all you don't have to let something go my way one more time God oh that I might know you God that I might know you got in a relationship that'll be more than enough God oh god I love you come on let's continue to pour our hearts out in worship right now we've heard from the Lord tonight we've heard from God tonight I Love You Lord Oh God is he worthy is he worthy is Jesus worthy is he worthy is he worthy is he worthy is he worthy is he worthy the word worthy has the word worth to it simply saying is he worth this tonight is he worth this tonight I I'm not praying for to be healed I'm not praying to get a intial blessing I'm not praying for the kids to get along I'm not praying God for a marriage to be healed I'm simply asking God to have a relationship with you based on worship is he worth it tonight is he worthy tonight do you deem him do you value him worthy Oh hallelujah there are no good deals about worship there are no bargain basement sales about worship there is no quick Amazon fix about worship you've got to pay the full price for worship if you're going to worship Him tonight oh yes Lord thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord now before we go home tonight before we go home I want you to know that God is trying to lead us
