Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The Bridegroom Paid the Price

  • Marriage in the Bible runs from the second chapter of Genesis, where Adam and Eve are joined together as one flesh, to the marriage supper of the Lamb in Revelation.
  • In the ancient pattern the bridegroom sought after the bride and paid a price to her father before the two entered into covenant.
  • The church has been bought with a price, and believers are to glorify God in their body and in their spirit, which are God’s.
  • No one the King has paid for is worthless: he robed himself in flesh and shed his blood to purchase his bride.
  • Christ has gone to prepare a place and will come again to claim the bride he purchased and bring her to his house.
  • Young people are urged to choose a spouse who is preparing for a future and a marriage, not only for a wedding day, and to settle questions of finances and faithfulness before saying yes.

Scriptures: Genesis 2 (chapter, as spoken); 1 Corinthians 6:20

David Reclaims the Wife He Paid For

  • David’s first demand as he comes to the throne is that the wife he espoused be brought to him before he will see Abner’s face.
  • He had paid more than the price Saul required, paying in blood, while the man she had been given to had paid no price for her at all.
  • Her husband follows her weeping along the way to the king’s house until Abner sends him back, and he returns.
  • People become connected to things they were never meant to be joined to — habits, addictions, and bondages that never paid a price for them.
  • The King who paid in blood is calling his bride to come home and leave the connections that only end in suffering.

Scriptures: 2 Samuel 3:13-16

The Weeping Is Not Coming into the King’s House

  • The weeping past follows for miles, rehearsing old memories and promising that it will be different this time.
  • Guilt, shame, regret, and temptation are served an eviction notice: they are not entering the king’s house.
  • Those who are bought with a price can no longer live, talk, or dress as they did before they came to the King.
  • The altar call invites everyone to tell the weeping past goodbye tonight and come to the king’s house for freedom, peace, and joy.

[Music] and her husband went with her along weeping weeping behind her to be hear him then abner said unto him go return and he returned tonight i want to preach to you just for a few moments if you'll help me the weeping that follows you to the king's house the weeping that follows you to the king's house will you help me pray i want you lift up your hands right now i want you to pray father we thank you for your word it's a lamp unto our feet of light into our path but lord i pray right now for a move of the spirit a liberating move of your spirit tonight set free those who've walked in here with some bondage and some baggage and i pray god that they would walk out of here tonight in peace and victory in jesus name we pray and everyone said amen clap your hands one more time unto the lord tonight [Applause] you can be seated in the name of the lord the weeping that follows you to the king's house that's perfect look at that brother derek he is a wizard he's a wizard the weeping that follows you to the king's house throughout the bible the imagery of marriage is found from the second chapter of genesis adam and eve are joined together in matrimony becoming one flesh finally the very last book of the bible revelation the bride the church is adorned for her husband christ and are gathered at the marriage supper of the lamb and it should be of note that the very first place jesus comes to perform his first miracle was at a wedding in cana alfred ettersham the great bible historian sort of marriage in biblical times the rabbis argue that man now listen to me now i'm going to give you some good stuff okay the rabbis argue that man must seek after the woman and not a woman after the man man they say was formed from the ground woman from man's rib hence in trying to find a wife man only looks after what he lost end quote so the bridegroom was to seek after his bride ladies listen to me right now young ladies if he isn't chasing you he's not worthy of catching you oh you can be seated if he isn't chasing you he's not worthy of catching you you don't need a chase after a man you need somebody who says that's somebody i'm going after i like her as long as it's done the right way not sliding into them dms or make sure you're going after her the right way in ancient near east the bridegroom was to pay a price now listen to me now the bridegroom was to pay a price in order that he might marry a young girl fathers of daughters could ask a minimum of 200 denarius once the dowry has been paid she is legally under the ownership of the bridegroom and they have entered into a covenant and when one of these days when some young boy comes to me wanting to marry my little girl i'm going to say no do you have one million dollars no because this let me because there's a price to be paid there's a prize to be paid for something of value so if the man wants to marry her there's a price to be paid you're not just going to get her for free there's a price for this i like to say it like this no finances no chances of romances i'm going to say it again that's that's that's that's good no finances no chances of romances come on young ladies if he's asking you out he better be able to pay for dinner because if he can't pay for dinner what come on now you're you're valuable you are you need to look i say listen if you ain't paying for this i'll find somebody else who will i i'm i'm worth something here there's a price to be paid here and if he's not got no finances there's no chances of romances because if he doesn't have any finances chances are he's not going to be able to take care of you also that also means he can't tithe and give to the kingdom and you don't want to marry somebody who's cursed because the bible says if you rob god you're under a curse if you want to be blessed come on talking to some young people tonight if you want to be blessed make sure they got their house in order in their bank account [Applause] you need to talk about that before you say yes to the dress you need to say yes to let me see your debt let me see your checkbook let me see your statement i want to see how do you pay your bills on time are you hearing me right now i'm preaching really good [Applause] i said yo i'd save you a whole lot of trouble if you'd have this conversation before you say yes to that dress how are you going to pay for that ring i haven't got to figure it out yet well you better because this is our future no finances no chances for romances you got to pay the price so the bridegroom would have to pay the father now listen to me follow me now i'm going quick the bridegroom the potential the man who would marry the bride has to go to the father and pay the price but once the price has been paid they enter into a covenant a relationship first corinthians 6 29 listen to me now for ye are bought with a price therefore glorify god in your body and in your spirit which are gods you and i have been bought with a price the bridegroom has purchased the church with his own blood jesus said that he goes ah you didn't choose me i chose you i chose you the bridegroom jesus christ chose you chose me to enter into a covenant a relationship so we the church paul uses the imagery of weddings and marriage and says that you the church are the bride that he might present himself a bride without spot or wrinkle because the bridegroom jesus christ paid the price to the father in blood don't you dare now listen to me now don't you dare think that you are worthless you are the most valuable thing walking on this planet you know why because jesus christ robed himself in flesh shed his blood for you he paid the price oh i'm telling you right now you are valuable you're not worthless you're worthy [Music] don't you dare i'm a nope no you are a somebody because the king of glory came and paid the price for the father for you and the price for your soul the price for the covenant was blood lord have mercy that's a high price to enter into a relationship with the church and so i'm thankful are you thankful that he paid the even though i was worthless even though i was dying in my sin even though i was helpless and hopeless he came to die redeem he chose us he chose us he wants us the king wants you he wants to enter into a relationship with you someone says who me yes you he has paid a price you're not you're not worthless you're not a nobody you're not a loser he gave his precious blood for you and guess what the bridegroom once he has paid the price for the bride he says i'll be back to claim what i have purchased until then i'm going to prepare a place so the are you are you hearing me right now so the bridegroom goes and begins to build for the future jesus said i have gone to i'm going to prepare a place for you that where i am there you may be also and so one of these days the bridegroom is going to come back with all of his hosts saying where's my bride i've got my house ready i've got their eternal hall are you hearing me right now and so he's going to come and snatch his bride away oh you're not hearing me right now you're not going to help me are you come on i'm telling you he's going to come and get us and we are going to dwell with him you need now listen christ purchased the church with his own blood but he's preparing for the future listen to me right now you need somebody in the in the in the in the human in the natural let me just say this you don't need somebody who's just preparing for the moment we we spend too much time and money in a wedding and not enough investment in a marriage oh lord jesus help me right now we need to invade you need somebody who's going to look into your future and say i got something for you i mean we're preparing for a future it's not just for a day we're preparing for weeks and months and years you need to have these con i know this is not marriage retreat but i feel the holy ghost right now let me tell you something if you would have these conversations before how do you want to raise your kids in church [Music] how do you want to serve in the church all the time what church are we going to go to a truth preaching apostolic bible believing church you need to have these limit we're preparing for a future not just a wedding date and so the bridegroom will come and snatch the bride away and bring him to the place of eternal abode that we might be with him forever brother nate what are you talking about tonight i'm talking about the weeping that follows you to the king's house now listen david he was promised the kingship of all israel and so we know what happens saul is the first king of israel well saul started out good head and shoulders above everybody else he looked apart after the part but when david came along jealousy got in his heart you know jealousy is a killer jealousy will ruin any relationship whether it's friendships or marriage jealousy will ruin any relationship oh somebody hear me right now so jealousy comes and begins to stir in saul to the point that he's ready to kill david even though david had done great things for israel jealousy gets in his heart but he thinks i'm going to go ahead and just see if i can get him hitched up with my daughter michelle maybe you know keep your friends close to your enemies closer kind of thing and so david says now this is not a light thing king saul that i would be the king's son-in-law and so saul says here's what we're going to do if you're going to marry my daughter michael there's a price to pay david said name it he said i want a hundred foreskins of the philistines and david said i'll bring you two hundred because i've seen my kill and she's worth it i want her uh and so guess what he does david goes and doesn't just kill a hundred philistines he kills 200 philistines and brings back 200 foreskins in blood to saul and saul says you have paid the price my kale is yours now stop right there for a second things only go downhill from here for david and it's not because of mikel it's because of his father-in-law who begins to be so enraged with jealousy he's going to kill david he knows um he i just know god's picked him over me i just know it and so he chases david out chases david out of the kingdom david has to leave the bride that he paid in blood behind leaves her behind and is on the run but the story goes that saul is killed in battle many years later and so as he has killed the people in hebron of judah they say we're going to make david our king in our stead because he's been the one chosen and so for seven and a half years david rules in hebron over judah well saul's other son ishbosheth is ruling in israel and saul's right-hand man by the name of abner is still there helping ishmael chef but ishmael just like saul gets jealous and accuses abner of trying to have a relationship with one of saul's concubines and so abner goes i'm out of here jack this y'all are crazy this this family is crazy and corrupt i'm going to david and so abner goes to david and says now listen david i know you i know you're the anointed king over all of israel and i'm going to help you become king over all of israel and so david looks at abner and goes i like what i'm hearing that sounds like a good idea and so abner's like what do you want to do first what's the first order of business and david goes i want what i paid for he said now listen saul's dead but my kale isn't and i paid in full i paid more than what was required to have her i paid it in blood i want my bride go get michael get my bride that the first order of business is the king wants to get his bride he said i don't want listen don't you want a hundred warriors wouldn't you like a would you like to have a hundred soldiers wouldn't you want me to raise up an i'm the i'm abner i can get all that he goes no no no no no i paid in blood for my bride go get her but the issue was brothers and sisters was that saul when david left because saul was so enraged with jealousy david left so saul takes my cal and gives her to a man by the name of falteo of gallum but the issue is falteel of gallum didn't pay the price for michelle you see saul gave her but let me tell you something he never paid the price for her so david looks at abner and says i know where she's at she's with somebody who didn't pay a price for her i want you to hear me right now let me there was no bloodshed for her from foutill he got something that was not his and david he's about to ascend the throne over all of israel he's about to come into his house an eternal house and he says let me tell you the first thing that i want i don't want an army i don't want horses i don't want chariots i don't want swords i don't want gold i don't want silver i want my bride i paid a price in blood for her now go get my [Applause] now listen now listen i i've read this story i'm sure you've read this story just as much as i have but i'm bothered by this story i'm bothered by this story every time i'd come too it's like a stumbling block to me as i meditated on the scripture i just kept going back to the thought that she wasn't supposed to be with falteel we don't know the whole story but let's that this right here this this confuses me but let me just i just i finally realized a few years ago when i read this and prayed over this that the lord began to speak to me that people get connected to things that they shouldn't be connected to all the time connections formed in sin must sooner or later end in suffering she was supposed to be with david who paid the price but somehow ended up to something that she wasn't supposed to be please hear me this evening i'm telling you right now there are some people who get married to things other than jesus and that is called spiritual adultery [Music] you're not supposed to be with that you're not supposed to be connected to that something paid for you something paid a price in blood for you you're not supposed to be i wish somebody was hearing me right now somehow or another a person ends up married to a drug habit another is married to a lust problem another is married to a lying addiction another is hooked on alcohol and nicotine another is bound to depression and oppression all the while the true husband who purchased you with his blood is saying go get my bride she's connected to something that she's not supposed to go i wish somebody was hearing me right now you get connected to things all the time but one of these days the bridegroom he might be calling for you right now he's been knocking at your door saying come home come home you're not supposed to be connected to that come home i paid a price for you come home it was a gruesome cost but he says come home now listen now now listen this is where the story gets interesting david says abner go get my wife so after i get to see abner going man i wish he's passing all these warriors all these all these soldiers he's passing all the gold and the silver he's passing all the things that saul's kingdom had he's going he doesn't want any of this he wants my kill oh my lord i'm going to see him going [Music] i could see ol foul teal's head pop out my cow it's abner hey abner what you need david wants his wife michael david's back i thought you broke up with him i thought you sent him a text message i thought you said he was dead david king david david son of jesse abner are you sure hold on my kale what are you going to do you've been with me for seven and a half years i can just see my kel going well fatim david paid a price for me that you didn't abner what does david want the king who paid a price in blood for you wants you to come to hebron he's about to rule and i can just see my kel going listen falteo listen thank you thank you thank you a lot of lessons learned here i know we've had some good times and we've had some bad times ups and downs but uh you know listen thank you so much but david paid a
