Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Contend for the faith — do not be contentious with it

  • He returns to Jude and reads the charge: remember the words spoken by the apostles, build yourselves up on your most holy faith, pray in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
  • Jude first describes the called as sanctified, preserved and called — called, loved and kept — and greets them with mercy, peace and love multiplied.
  • Jude wanted to write about their shared salvation, but instead took up the sword: earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
  • We are to contend for the faith, not be contentious with it — defend it without offending with it; for certain men have crept in unawares, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness and denying the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The faith is the sum total of the word of God — what we believe about God, about Christ, and about salvation — and any deviation from it disrupts the whole.

Scriptures: Jude 17-21; Jude 1-2; Jude 3; Jude 4

Remember the word: the antidote to mockers and drift

  • Jude puts them in remembrance: forgetfulness is one of faith's greatest enemies, and the writer of Hebrews warns that we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift.
  • Peter stirs up his readers by putting them in remembrance of the things they already know, and Paul charged the elders at Ephesus to watch and remember, warning that grievous wolves would enter in and that men from among themselves would arise speaking perverse things.
  • The mockers Jude foretold sit in the seat of the scornful: they tear down what they will not accept, hate correction, and agitate the community — Solomon's proverbs mark the scorner as proud and haughty, and peace comes when the scorner is cast out.
  • God himself mocks the mocker; whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and whoever reproves a wicked man incurs injury.

Scriptures: Jude 5; Genesis 3 (chapter, as spoken); Hebrews (book-only, as spoken); 2 Peter (book-only, as spoken); Acts 20:28-31; Proverbs 9:7; Psalms 1:1; Proverbs 3:34; Proverbs 21:24; Proverbs 29:8; Proverbs 22:10

Building up, praying in the Spirit, keeping in God’s love

  • The Corinthian church was torn by contentions, and Paul appealed that they all speak the same thing with no divisions among them; Jesus prayed, in his high priestly prayer, that his people would be one.
  • To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace; the sensual have not the Spirit, while the church is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.
  • Even the angels kept not their first estate, and Sodom left its proper order — so keep yourselves in the love of God: love what God loves, keep his commands, and love others; do not love the world or the things in the world.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:10-11; John 17 (chapter, as spoken); Romans 8:6-7; Ephesians 2:20; Jude 6-7; 1 John 2:15

Looking for the mercy: be ready for his coming

  • This world is not our home: the church is to await the returning Christ rather than fear his coming, praying the believer's prayer of anticipation — the Spirit and the bride say, Come.
  • Peter foretold mockers asking where the promise of his coming is; we are two thousand years closer to the return than when they first mocked it.
  • Build yourselves up in the most holy faith, pray in the Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, and be ready.

mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lusts these be they who separate themselves other translations say so discord sensual having not the spirit but ye beloved building up the lord continuing in the faith jude's a short book 25 verses a couple wednesday nights ago i spoke on the first verse three words that were powerful spoke powerfully to me and began teaching a series at apostolic christian school let me just say this friday mornings here at apostolic christian school we have near eight i'm sorry near 300 people right here on friday mornings 288 of those are students from k2 through k-12 can you give the lord a great big hand for that right now we're busting at the seams and so they're here they're leading in worship they do everything on on friday mornings they play the instruments they sing they do the ushering they do all the production from upstairs and so you can tune in online all of our students are doing that and we are so so proud of them and i began to speak from this first verse on identity sanctified preserved and called or as the esv said we're called beloved and kept that's how he begins this this short letter to these people who are sanctified preserved and called and he tells them what the benefits are we might talk about that soon mercy unto you and peace and love be multiplied he tells us in the very beginning he said i wanted i gave all diligence i really wanted to write to you about our common salvation the word common there does not mean necessarily common as it's this old hat and familiar instead it's shared it's our shared salvation so i wanted to write to you about our shared salvation but god had other plans as i began to take up the pen i also felt the need to take up the sword to tell you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints he said i wanted to write to you about our common salvation but i want to tell you to earnestly contend for the faith and let me just add this disclaimer here we are to contend for the faith not be contentious with the faith let me say that again because i don't think you heard me uh we should contend for the faith but we don't have to be contentious with the faith some people equate being contentious as being pious that's not true we are to defend the faith but we are not to offend with the faith contend for it don't be contentious with it there are too many who think you got to be contentious with the faith instead you have to contend for the faith defend it why he says in verse 4 there are certain men crept in unawares who were before of old ordained to this condemnation ungodly men turning the grace of our god into lasciviousness and denying the only lord god and our lord jesus christ as certain men crept in the word crept there in the greek means to get in by the side door they've crept in or slithered in and it echoes back to genesis 3 where we meet this slithering serpent coming in and asking eve about god's word clouding her mind with questions and doubts and leads to their downfall and so he says certain men have slithered in and now they're trying to turn the grace of our god into lasciviousness the word lascivious means to be without restraint they're trying to throw off restraint and deny the only lord god our lord jesus christ he uses lord twice because he wants you to understand that we are to be submitted to the lordship of jesus christ if you're going to do anything for god you've got to be submitted and if you refuse submission you're lascivious you're without restraint and you've turned the grace of god into to un unrestrained you've thrown it off you're trying to live without law and anybody who tries to tell you we're a free country that's true that's true but we do have laws you can be free and still have law freedom without laws does not mean freedom necessarily it actually means bondage i don't want i don't want a place to be free without laws that means you could if you had no laws anybody could murder they could kill they could drive down the road five uh i mean 60 70 90 miles per hour without restraint that's dangerous without law it's chaos and if because we have grace does not mean we are to throw off restraint and live live any old way that we want paul heard this he thought he heard them say this he said uh but are you saying that since there's grace we should just uh let sin abound just do whatever we want he says god forbid when you are in the grace of god you submit to the royal law of god there are things we do things we don't do and the first thing you've got to do is stay with the faith oh my it's the faith someone say the faith well what is the faith the faith is the sum total of all of the word of god it's the apostolic doctrine it's the faith that's the faith it's our common salvation it's the faith it includes our what we believe about the word of god it's what we believe about god and who he is and his attributes uh it's who we what we believe about christ and who he is and what he has done uh it's it includes what we believe about salvation and justification and sanctification and glorification and what we think about application through faith repentance baptism and the infilling of the holy ghost it goes on and on and any deviation from the faith if anybody deviates from the word of god on any little thing the whole thing is disrupted if somebody begins to waver on what they believe in the personhood of jesus christ it's not long they they start to deviate on what they believe about what he's done for salvation and then it comes down to what they believe what sin is and the power of sin so any deviation from the faith could lead to chaos and so he says there have been certain men coming in who've turned the grace of god into lasciviousness denying the only lord god and he said this in verse 5 i will therefore put you in remembrance remember scripture speaks much about memory god told israel remember the sabbath and keep it holy joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him before pharaoh the word remember is used no less than 14 times in the book of deuteronomy when israel stood in the shores of the jordan river joshua told them to remember the word that moses told them jesus told his disciples to remember lot's wife he also said the holy ghost would bring into remembrance all that he had taught them one of the greatest enemies of faith is forgetfulness someone has said if we have no memory we are adrift because the memory is the mooring to which we are tied without memory we are lost the writer of hebrews said this therefore we must pay close closer attention to what we have heard lest we drift so if you forget you could drift and if we drift we are in danger of shipwrecking our life paul said if you put these things before the brethren you'll be a good servant of the lord jesus christ being trained in the words trained in the words trained not just in your feelings but in the word the issue is we put so much emphasis on feeling and emotion and we need that is that when you feel something opposite of what the word says you'll choose feeling over word well i just feel this is what i got to do what's the word say well my feelings are fickle that's what they are your feelings are fickle you might just need to take a nap you might just need a cup of coffee you might just need a good meal because feelings can be fickle sometimes and therefore we have to have something that we are moored to something that we are anchored to and that is the word of god and paul would say this i'm sorry peter would say this wherefore i will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things well i've heard that before i've heard that message before i've heard that doctrine before good you know why you need to remember it though you know them you need to be established in the present truth as long as i'm in this tabernacle to stir you up by putting you in remembrance you need to know what this book says you need to if you're going to be able to contend earnestly for the faith you're going to need to know the faith well i just that's what bishop teaches and that's what pastor preaches that's what my son is school teacher pray listen that's great what do you know because you're going to walk into a college campus you're going to walk into a job somewhere and somebody's going to ask you a question like a slithering serpent and ask you something did god say and you better not come back with well bishop mccool said as much as i love him and i appreciate him and i honor him it's not his word it is the word of god that you need to know you better hide it in your heart you better be stirred up into your remembrance oh somebody say amen paul warned the church in ephesus before he left he said take heed therefore unto yourselves into the flock in which the holy ghost hath made you overseers to feed the church of god which he hath purchased with his own blood for i know this that after my departing grievous wolves will enter in among you not sparing the flock also of your own selves shall men arise speaking perverse things to draw disciples away after them therefore here's the antidote here's the antidote to false teachers and false doctrine therefore watch and remember when doubt comes in you need to remember what you have been taught when doubt and unbelief comes in you need to remember what you've studied from the word of god study to show thyself approved unto god a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of somebody needs to get a hold of this tonight that we've got to remember the word of god we got to get it in our hearts we got to get it in our minds we've got to get it rooted within us someone say amen so he says remember remember the words that the apostles taught us remember what they spoke remember what they taught us because if you don't remember you're susceptible to false teaching he says this in verse 18 how that they told you here's what they told you there should be mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lust these be they who separate themselves sensual having not the spirit now he had predicted what would happen the apostles had told them what would happen and now it was a present reality within this church that jude was a part of and he says there's already those that are among us who have crept in and he says that they would be mockers mockers other translations say scoffers who follow their ungodly lust the word scoffer the word scoffer means to tear down tear down that's what they want to do they want to tear down that's what mockers want to do they want to take they're not satisfied by just simply going and believing what they hear they want to just tear down everything that they possibly can they scoff they mock at it they make fun of it they want to throw arguments out at it they want to try to discredit those who teach it this is what solomon wrote in proverbs 9 whoever corrects a scoffer or a mocker gets himself abuse and whoever repeat reproves a wicked man incurs injury so a mocker does not like to be corrected it doesn't like to be corrected if you look at psalm chapter number one i'm going quick i'm doing an old school thing it's not in my notes let me just go back let me show you psalm chapter number one let me give you some characteristics of a mocker or a scoffer is that all right because you're going to need to know it verse number one blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful you know what a mocker does they sit and mock they don't participate they are monday morning quarterbacks you know what i'm talking about if i was doing if i was in charge this is what i do this is what i teach well what are you doing i'm sitting showing up late scoffing mocking not worshiping not serving not doing anything but i've got an opinion about everything that's what a mockery is that's what a scoffer is and he said these are people who creep into churches [Applause] [Music] let me give you some characteristics god mocks the mocker proverbs 3 and 34 says god mocks the mocker while the mocker is mocking the things of god god is mocking them i'm changing i don't want god mocking me i don't want god mocking me mockers hate correction proverbs 21 24 says that they're proud haughty and arrogant that's how you're going to know if they're a scoffer or a mocker they're proud they're haughty and they're arrogant proverbs 21 and 24 says that mockers agitate cities or communities any time you find a mocker or a scoffer in a church they're agitating somebody always agitating somebody oh oh do you hear what they said well i'm not sure if i believe that you know i'm did you see what they were wearing did you see them down there shouting how they were doing that you hear me very careful about what you're entertaining now entertainment can be what's on your television it could also be who you're sitting next to in church what attitudes you're entertaining what spirits you're entertaining they agitate communities but then proverbs yet proverbs 22 and 10 says that if you remove a mocker a community will have peace you know what we need to do we need to get rid of some mockers and some scoffers and say here listen i want you to get the holy ghost i want you to be saved i want you to make it to heaven but i'm not sitting next to you you're not sitting next to me i'm not going out to eat with you i'm not listening to all that come on somebody we need to start saying we need to make mockers and scoffers uncomfortable because you know what's better than that we need some holy ghost peace where people can come get deliverance without fear and shame someone say amen scoffers mockers disdain wisdom because they take pleasure in tearing down what they do not accept if they're not going to accept holiness they're not going to accept it in you everybody doing that and i know they're not going to tell me what to do then go somewhere else just tell me i'm i'm at that point in my life if you can't line up with the word of god what what do you want to do because you're not going to influence me you shouldn't be trying to influence if you're not going to live it don't try to influence somebody else if you don't understand it fine fine i get it if you doubt fine but don't come in because you doubt and have unbelief you come in somebody's ear and say well i'm not going to do that and they're going to tell me how to do that bible says you are a mocker and a scoffer oh lord have mercy then they say this they separate themselves they separate themselves other translations say that they sow discord let me tell you about what god hates can i tell you what god hates haughty eyes a lying tongue hands that are quick to shed innocent blood a heart that devises wicked plans all of us are going yeah that's right amen he does he hates all that feet that make haste to run to make evil oh yeah he hates that i do too a false witness who breathes out lies you're going well i'm not sure if he hates that too much and here's the last one and one who sows discord not in the world among brothers that's what god hates god hates division god hates those who sow discord among the church he does not take it lightly this is what pastor preached today god is not mock that's that same word as before god is not mocked if you sow it you're going to reap it if you sow seeds of discord don't be surprised if you reap a harvest of discord in your family [Music] stop running please stop running stop running stop rolling on the floor yo calm down this is in your bible he hates when people cause division in the church the corinthian church was being torn apart through such actions the apostle paul wrote he said i'm appealing unto you by the by the name of our lord jesus christ that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind in the same judgment for it hath been declared unto me of you brothers by them which are the house of chloe that there are contentions among you i have seen quarreling divide churches into camps i've seen churches split over the color of the carpet i have i remember one time growing up there was a church between north south east and west somewhere in this universe of ours i remember the pastor was wanting to retire and go somewhere else and do something else they brought in an interim pastor and he began to have meetings with the leadership of the church about changing the carpet guess who came back in the town and sent him down the road all over the color of the carpet let's taste them what god hates he doesn't hate the color of the carpet but he hates the spirit behind anybody who tries to divide a church over their preference or their opinion i've seen good churches and good people split churches in two and three over an opinion and not a principle i'm telling you god hates it well god hates all of all this that's your opinion that's your preference and it's going to change in 10 years but i'll tell you what would not be different in 10 years are the people that are hurt and the people who backslide and who have seen the nastiness of people get in fights over the most inconsequential things oh jesus you sow seeds of discord there's a harvest coming there's a harvest coming it's a harvest coming we don't need to be sowers of discord we need to be unifiers we need to have one mind and you know you know how the holy ghost was poured out in the day of pentecost they were all together in one mind and in one accord they didn't care about the carpet they didn't care about the air conditioner they didn't care about the sound they didn't care about the lights they said we want the holy ghost we want the promise and we don't care if we don't get our way we want his way because his way are you going to hear me tonight i'm telling you if we're going to have revival we've got to be unified in mind and soul and spirit deny yourself take up your cross deny yourself that means denying your preferences that means denying your opinion jesus prayed in his high priestly prayer in john 17. he prayed that they would be one unified there's nothing more there's nothing more awful than to see churches divided through discord selfish ambition are you hearing me we're gonna go we're gonna go to a happy place here a little bit i promise go read jude he don't seem too happy he goes the next part he says sensual sensual not having the spirit the word sensual could mean worldly carnal worldliness is the opposite of holiness sensuality is the opposite of spirituality jude's description could not be any clearer these individuals were devoid of the spirit being led of their carnal appetite paul would say this in romans 8 for to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace because the carnal mind is enmity against god for it is not subject to the law of god you see that it's not subject it's lawlessness it's lasciviousness it's without restraint when you are worldly and sensual and carnal you are not submitted to god's laws and you open yourself up to all kinds of spirits you open yourself up to spirits of discord you open up your spirit to scoffing and mocking that's what you do when you're carnal when you don't have the mind of christ and instead you have the mind of the world you cannot please god carnally minded people follow after their sinful desires carnally minded people despise truth carnally minded people mock godly leadership carnally minded people cause division over personal preferences and opinions carnally minded people will attempt to lure people away from the truth spiritual people don't attempt to lure people away from the truth spiritual people don't cause division spiritual people don't scoff at the word of god or those called of god spiritual people don't follow after their sinful desires let me ask you a question are you spiritual or are you sensual you can't be both you can't be spiritual on sunday and be carnal the rest of the week a double-minded man is unstable as unstable in all of his ways are you spiritual or are you sensual can't be both now we're getting to some happy things okay someone say happy things jew comes out swinging don't eat i mean he ain't playing around i mean he opens up and says i want to write to you about our common salvation but i'm going to tell you something you better get ready for a fight you better start testing your spirit to make sure you're rude and grounded in this common salvation and he says this but you but you i'm not taught he said i'm not talking about you the church but you beloved here's what you're going to do building up yourselves on your most holy faith praying in the holy ghost keep yourselves in the love of god looking for the mercy of our lord jesus christ unto eternal life so let's look at these these things here number one he says build yourself up in your most holy faith now earlier he says to contend for the faith and the feather or i'm sorry the faith uh includes so much doctrine and uh we've got outlines of of of doctrines and there's things that are included in the faith but now he's telling them to build themselves up with the faith got to be built up with it paul would say in ephesians 2 that were built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets jesus christ himself being the chief cornerstone everything is built upon the faith and you must build your life up in the faith everything a part of the faith has a purpose it builds us up you can hear preaching like this on sunday night and what we heard sunday morning and teaching like wednesday night and we could have evangelists and special speakers to come in and all of them are hitting on different parts of the faith to build us up it's to edify it's to encourage it's to refresh it's to grow strong i don't know about you i like to think about january 1st i started thinking about i should start working out you ever do that like i'm going to work out this year it's going to be it's going to be my year these first thing i'm going to work out so then i'll go and i'll get in the weight room here at the school and i'll start pumping iron whatever you want to call it all 25 pounds of it you know and just and my muscles start to ache and get sore and the next day they're sore and i'm going that's all right this is i'm feeling good in the third day i'm like i am still sore the fourth day you're like this is the worst pain i've ever felt in my entire life and then you're back to october first and eight you know you're like i'll try it again next year you know i'm gonna try it again but when you're consistent with it you build yourself up you feel confident you feel like you can run through a wall right well that's what the faith is to do is to build us up the faith builds us up and we're renewed by the spirit of our mind you know what some sometimes we get beat up so bad is because we're not working out the faith we're working out social media we're working out our careers we're working out our ambition we're working out all the other things but the faith and we keep getting knocked down but if we would build our ours let me tell you something you're not going to be built up only three hours a week you're not gonna get you're not gonna get built up spiritually strong three hours a week you're gonna have to build yourself up daily you're gonna have to intake the word and the spirit daily that's the way that you can overcome doubt that's the way you can overcome fear that's the way you can overcome anxiety and worry is building yourself up with the faith we need a holy dose of the faith you grow strong with it then he says this praying in the holy ghost praying build yourself up in your most holy faith praying in the holy ghost hear me this is profound one cannot pray in the spirit unless they have the spirit you can't pray in the spirit unless you have the spirit he just said that these certain creeps these apostates false teachers are devoid of the spirit but now he's saying you're going to build up your faith in prayer in the spirit paul would say that don't you know that you are the spirit you are the temple of the holy spirit that you house god's spirit in you every day and that when you don't know what to pray the spirit comes in and begins to pray along for you making groanings and and words that cannot be uh uh are translated because the spirit begins to pray through us it assists us in prayer has anybody ever tried to pray something you're just like i don't even know how to pray this i don't even know how to ask this i don't even have the i don't have the vocabulary to be able to articulate what i'm trying to say in prayer and let you just keep with you say lord jesus oh god help me right now and next thing you know the holy ghost begins to overtake your spirit and your mind and your heart and all of a sudden you begin to speak in a language that's not your own and the spirit begins to make intercession through you and now you feel edified and built up because he came through and said what you couldn't say he can say what you don't know how to say but you got to pray it in the spirit if you want to be built up in the faith we're going to have to pray with the spirit somebody say amen i'm i'm i'm going fast okay build yourselves up on your most holy faith praying in the holy ghost he says this keep yourselves keep yourselves in the love of god now go back to verse 1. he said that we are sanctified and preserved and called i showed you from another english translation that we are called loved and kept he loves us and he keeps that which he loves but now judah's saying keep yourselves in it you got to be intentional about staying in the love of god well how can you do that how can you do that now if you go back i know there's 25 verses there's so much here so powerful he uses this word keep at least five times maybe six times and it's translated a few different ways by keep stay remain or kept now if you go back and he says the angels verse six the angels which kept not their first estate but left so the angels that were created left their proper dwelling and then his next illustration is of sodom and gomorrah and they left they gave themselves over strange flesh they left their proper designed order and so what he's saying is that there is a possibility through your actions and decisions that you can leave your proper dwelling that you can get yourself out of the love of god you listen if angels have the ability to leave heaven we better make sure we're making the right decisions and living the right way so we don't leave the protection of god's love so you keep yourself in the he didn't say keep yourself saved he says keep yourself in the love of god he saves us and he doesn't leave us to our own device say well i hope you make it to heaven thank you no he stays with us we he abides in us but we have the decision or not to remain in his love how do you do that how do you do that how do you stay in god's love if the angels didn't do it past the apostates didn't do it how can we do it number one how do you remain the love of god number one you love what god loves you love what god loves the apostle john wrote do not love the world or the things in the world if anyone loves the world the love of the father is not in him keep yourselves in the love of god by loving the things that love god that god loves stay with the things that god if he loves his word you better love his word if he loves people you better love people are you hearing me if he loves holiness you better love holiness the world with all of its passions were contrary to the love of god second you must keep god's commands if you're gonna remain the love of god you must keep his commands jesus said if you keep my commandments you will abide in my love just as i have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love the apostates the certain creeps did the exact opposite they deny the lord jesus rejected authority and were worldly people they were the opposite of that they left it number three you keep yourself in the love of god by loving others yes i like jesus i love jesus i just don't like his church i've heard people say that you can't you can't love jesus without loving the body hear me he is the body we're made up of his body if anyone says i love god and hates his brother he is a liar for he does not love his brother whom he has seen but he can't love god whom he has not seen this is the commandment we have from him whoever loves god must also love his brother three things for you to keep yourself in the love of god love the things that god loves keep his commands and love people that's how you'll keep yourself in the love of god that's how you will remain in the love of god i'm coming the last one if the team want to start making their way up to help me to close he says this keep yourself in the love of god looking for the mercy of our lord jesus christ unto eternal life if you read this short the short letter you'll see so much that he's referencing back to and he's using comparison and contrast he uses parallelism between the church and those who would try to divide it he says keep yourselves in love of god because these did not they're looking the word he used was sensual remember worldly means it's temporal it's temporal sensual having not the spirit they are living for today but you but us building up yourselves on your most holy faith praying in the holy ghost keep yourselves in love with god looking for the mercy of our lord jesus christ unto eternal life we're not living for today this world is not my home i'm i'm worried that too many christians have forgotten about eternity they live for the here and now there are some i'm afraid they think that this is their heaven they live for they're building up treasures for this world and not for the next world they're living for worldly things they're living for the here and now but jude is saying get your eyes off today and get your eyes on eternity if you'll build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the spirit and keep yourselves in the love of god you'll know that this is not my home you'll know that this is not what was promised me you'll know you've got your eyes some you've got your vision jonathan edwards one of the greatest preachers in america said this he said lord he made this prayer lord stamp eternity upon my eyeballs don't let me live just for today wait for his coming can i tell you i want to remind somebody he's coming again he's coming again i said he's coming again does anybody want to make heaven tonight is anybody is anybody ready for the second coming of the lord jesus christ is somebody ready for him to make his way back and to split that eastern sky is anybody ready for the trumpet to call us home this world's not my home stay with me he said wait waiting the word waiting here means to expect anticipate i'm afraid some of us are fearful of his second coming [Music] hope i hope we don't come tonight [Music] i hope you don't come tonight we got to have we got to have an expectation we got to change our mindset if we don't want him to come out of carnal reasons i remember i remember friends praying this when we we're kids i hope we don't come before i get married hope we don't come before i graduate college then what then what what are you living for i'm not living for i'm not living for this world this world is dark and getting darker this world is getting more corrupt every day every day it's getting worse we can't even go to the grocery store without being in fear of being abducted or shot that's right i'm not talking about new york i'm talking about tennessee i'm talking about right here in the south we can't even we we are we are living in fear because the world is growing darker this is not my home i'm not living for this place right here we got to change our expectation we shouldn't fear his second coming we should await his second coming [Music] the book of revelation said the believer's prayer should be this a prayer of anticipation the spirit and the bride say come [Music] not delay wait on me wait for me to get my act together wait wait until i get old wait till i have no come come on today yeah i i i get this out of here maranatha come lord jesus get us out of here jude's readers we're called to be the opposite of the opponents that he wrote about the apostates these certain creeps caused division and were devoid of the spirit while the church was to build themselves up in the faith as a dwelling place for the spirit the apostates were loud mouth boasters while the church was to pray in the spirit the apostates followed after their lusts while the church was to keep themselves in the love of god the apostates would be judged by god while the church was to await the return of christ eagerly in other words they were to be the opposite they were to be called out sanctified loved preserved keep yourselves in the love of god build yourself up in your most holy faith pray in the spirit and wait for his coming i wonder if anybody's ready i wonder if anybody's ready it's been a while since we've prayed this prayer but are you ready are you ready are you living for this world are you living for your heavenly home are you living for the here and now being sensual and devoid of the spirit or are you so heavenly minded you've got your eyes and your vision set on eternity is anybody ready to go tonight i wonder if somebody's ready if he would come if he would call out tonight to call his church home tonight would you be ready are you awaiting his soon return he's coming he's coming peter would say this 2000 years ago there would be those who are mocking saying where is this coming [Music] where is it he said remember i'm going to stir you up i'm going to stir you up it was 2 000 years ago they mocked his second coming can i tell you we are 2 000 years closer to the return of jesus christ would you lift up your hands and will you pray this prayer lord i want to be ready come on i want you to be ready i want you to be ready i want you to be ready that's what richard do we are to build the church up awaiting his return i wonder if somebody would come out of their seat tonight out of their view and confine and alter and say lord i want to be built up in my most holy faith i want to pray in the spirit i want to keep myself in the love of god i want to await your return lord i want to be ready i want to be ready i want to be ready come on church would you pray come on i want to continue in the faith i want to continue in the faith i want to continue in what the apostles taught oh god let me be stirred to remembrance what your word says god we want to await your return we want to be kept in the love of god and i pray lord jesus that you would help us to be unifiers god i pray that you would help us to be unifiers to be of one mind and one spirit and one accord god help us not to be sowers of discord help us not to be scuffers and mockers but god help us to be spiritual thinking upon these things oh god let us be ready let us be ready let us be ready holiness is what you want for good morning somebody pray in the holy ghost pray in the spirit
