Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Called to a place called Yonder
- God tempted Abraham and said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering; three times in the account Abraham answers, Here am I.
- On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off, and said unto the young men, Abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
- Isaac asked, Where is the lamb for a burnt offering; Abraham answered, My son, God will provide himself a lamb; at the altar the angel stayed his hand, and behind him a ram was caught in a thicket by his horns.
Scriptures: Genesis 22:1-13
Nearer to God costs a sacrifice
- Moses prayed to see God's glory and the Lord answered, There is a place by me: to see his glory a man must come into close proximity to him, near his side.
- Moriah means taught of God alone; on that same mount David would not offer unto God of that which cost him nothing, and Solomon later built the temple there — no one gets nearer to God without sacrifice.
- Archaeologists judge whether an ancient people were religious by the traces of sacrifice they find; Abraham dotted the land with altars, and the question is what traces of sacrifice and obedience our own lives will leave.
Sacrifice is worship
- This is the first use of the word worship in the Bible: Abraham viewed sacrifice as worship, and Paul beseeches us to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service and spiritual worship.
- Anybody with breath in their lungs can praise; worship is offering a sacrifice because of who he is, not only thanking him for what he has done.
- Israel stayed at the foot of the mountain and built a golden calf; no one sees his glory lingering at the foot of the mountain — only at the top.
Scriptures: Romans 12:1; John 4:23-24
Don't settle this side of Jordan
- The children of Reuben and Gad wanted to build sheepfolds in Gilead and cross over only when there was a fight; too many want to live in Yonder at revival and camp meeting but not on a Wednesday night in February.
- The preacher learned worship from his mother, who sang and wept over gospel records at home with no microphone, no choir and no crowd: worship can be offered with no audience at all.
- The call is to parents and families: don't send your children to church and don't spectate — show them the altar-building, sacrificial way, and be worshippers.

just remain standing and get your Bibles this is what happens in an Apostolic Church the Holy Ghost will come in and we respond to it you don't have to manufacture this you don't have to work it out you don't have to exercise yourself into a frenzy but when the Holy Ghost comes in the Wind Blows wherever it lives and it's here today so whatever you need I wonder if somebody would set their sail to the wind that's blowing today oh yes yes yes yes go with me to Genesis chapter number two I'll be cognizant of the time Genesis chapter number 22 beginning at verse number one and it came to pass after these things that God did tempt Abraham and said unto him Abraham and he said behold here I am he said take now thy son thine only son Isaac whom thou loved and get thee into the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I tell thee of look at verse three and Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his ass and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son and clave the wood for the burnt offering and Rose up and went unto the place of which God had told him then on the third day someone say the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place someone say the place the place a far off and Abraham said unto his young men abide ye here with the ass and I and the lad will go Yonder someone say Yonder Yonder say it like you're in East Tennessee Yonder y there you go we're going to go Yonder and worship and come again to you and Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac his son he took the fire in his hand and a knife and they both went together and Isaac spake unto Abraham his father and he said my father and he said it again here am I my son and he said behold the fire in the wood but where is the lamp we can preach right there for a week where is the lamb and Abraham said my son God will provide himself a lamb I don't see it but it's [Music] coming I don't see it but I know when I get there on there's going to be a lamb but if not we're going and both of them went together and they came to the place that God had told him of and Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar of the wood and Abraham stretched forth his hand took the knife to slay his son the angel of the Lord called out unto him into he from heaven and said Abraham Abraham and he said a third time here am I he said lay not thine hand upon the lad neither do thou anything unto him for now I know thou fearest God seeing that thou Hast not withheld thy son thine only son from from me and Abraham lifted his eyes and looked again and behold him a ram called CAU in a Thicket by his horns today I want to preach to you with the help of the Lord a place called Yonder a place called Yonder the Holy Ghost is here today and I know we have prayed and we've in contact with him but I wonder if you lay your device or your Bibles down and would you just slip up a hand and close your eyes and would you pray this simple prayer Lord invite me to a place called Yonder can you do that God invite me today invite me today Father your word is alive this morning as your spirit is here Lord and I'm weak and beggarly and I'm just dust and I pray Lord that you would just help me anoint me and Lord I pray that you would help me to say the things that you would have me say so you can speak and Minister unto your people today in Jesus name we pray pray and everyone said amen would you clap your hands again unto the Lord this morning amen you can be seated a place called Yonder Genesis is a fascinating book one of my favorites and I believe everything in the rest of the Bible Finds Its Genesis in Genesis and we're introduced to Abraham he become the father of many nations he was called the friend of God what made Abraham a man of faith and a man of God is that Abraham knew how to walk by faith Abraham learned to hear the voice of God and follow it he couldn't hear it or he couldn't see it but he could hear it he couldn't necessarily I don't know maybe feel it but when God spoke he moved Abraham never allowed his callous feet or his Dusty sandals to be rooted in any certain place his longest stay would be in Hein in his tomb in the cave of mpela for Abraham moved constantly to where God wanted him to go from ER of the caldes to Haron to Canaan to Egypt to Gar to mamry and here we find him in beerseba he never stayed very long at each place he just continued to move in fear and faith and his whole goal was to get closer to his God he wanted to know him he wanted to please him and it took Faith to follow an invisible god with a commanding voice never knowing where he was going Abraham followed in faith believing that each step he would learn just a little bit more of the God who called him and wanted to know him how do you stay in Covenant with God you desire him and you seek him you never stay in the same position spiritually never staying content in your knowing of him never feeling like you've finally arrived and you know all there is to know about God but as you hear him you follow him all right amen familiar voice that Abraham had heard and followed once again called out God called Abraham's name twice and Abraham replied the first of three times here I am Abraham is one of a handful of men in the Bible to make this statement Jacob Moses Samuel Isaiah and even ananas in the book of Acts and Abraham like those who would later follow his example didn't shy away from the invitation Adam and Eve hid in the trees when God called out where art thou Abraham didn't say here they are send them Abraham was in an was in a place he was positioned for the opportunity to follow and hear the voice of God and God called out to him again and Abraham said here I am not there I was but here I am God isn't looking for Ability as much as he's looking for availability he's looking for someone to come to a place near him when Moses ascended the Mount Mount Si he realized he could not go or do anything without the glory of God and I believe the greatest prayer that Moses ever prayed is this he said I want to see your glory I've seen your power in Egypt I've seen your wonders in the Red Sea but there's something I want greater than your power there's something greater that I want than your wonders I want to see you and the Lord said to Moses there is a place by me oh God have mercy I want you to know if you want to see his glory you're going to have to get in close proximity to him you're going to have to realize you move Beyond power you move Beyond wonders and you say I want to know you I want to see you and the Lord said Come a Little Closer Moses there is a place I want to tell if they SE Knoxville this morning there is a place near him there is a place near him and he is beckoning he is inviting and he is calling us hallu here's a place by me Abraham come a little closer but if you're going to come a little closer Abraham there's something that I want from you take your only son Isaac the one you love and go to the land of Mariah and offer him there as a burnt offering someone say burnt offering here at Mariah this is this is a wonderful study that you that you can you can work out this week but Mariah here this is a place that's called instruction of God instruction you translate the name Moriah from the Hebrew and it means to be taught of God alone all right all right there's a place Abraham that I want you to come to all right but it's not for everybody it's a place for you and me but don't come empty-handed I am going to require of you a sacrifice and what did Abraham do he didn't throw a tantrum he didn't argue with God he did as he had always done he obeyed because he knew when I obey God shows up he's never failed me yet when I left the her of the Cales he didn't leave me when I left on he didn't leave me when I had to separate from lot he didn't leave me when I had to send ishma out he didn't leave me when I was old and dried up he didn't leave me but I know if I follow him and I obey him he's going to show up just like he has before and so Abraham didn't throw a fit Abraham didn't argue with God he said if that's what you want I'll follow if that's what you require I wish somebody was hearing me right now I'm going to tell tell you if you're going to come into contact with him you can't come empty-handed Mariah this was the place centuries later that was owned by a PL by a man by the name of Aruna and when David had to stay the plague towards the end of his Reign he went to Aruna so he could offer a sacrifice and Aruna said King David you can just have this plot of land you can just have this place I'll give it to you because of who you are and David said in 2 Samuel chapter number 24 he said no sir I will not offer to God anything that did not cost me something because I just know that David knew the story of Mariah that Abraham and Isaac walked up that place and there was a sacrifice in his hand there was some faith and there was some obedience but there was some sacrifice and David built an altar but you know who else built an altar there it would be Solomon Solomon would have that mount excavated and Not only would David offer an offering there and Abraham offer an offering there but Solomon would build the very Temple where he would build an altar and they didn't have an altar big enough to take all the sacrifices let me tell you something here this morning you cannot get closer to him without sacrifice Hallelujah it is going to have a price to come to a place near him the instruction of the Lord to be taught of him requires that you do not come empty-handed I'm not just talking about your wallet I'm not talking about your checkbook I'm not talking about your bank account I'm talking about you I'm talking about me that when we go up a little bit higher it's going to cost us our very Comfort it's going to come it's going to cost us who we are it might cost us our reputation but if you want to go up and you want to come into contact with him you cannot come empty-handed all right I read in a book when I was working on my degree several years ago it was it was just a book I really didn't enjoy the book all that much but there was something in in the early chapters of the book that caught my attention that when archaeologists go into a land and they want to see if these people were a religious people they look for and I quote traces of sacrifice how do we know they were religious how did we know if they were a people of Faith were looking for traces of sacrifice when somebody looks at your life a hundred years from now that the Lord would carry is there is there going to be any evidence of any sacrifice is there going to be any evidence that you followed him by faith is there going to be any traces of obedience is there going to be any traces of faithfulness Abraham dotted the ancient neares with altars all around him Isaac would have them Jacob would have them Israel would have them everywhere they went there were altars you know why because if you're going to draw closer to him you have to have an altar if you're going to draw closer to him you have to have a sacrifice he is in beer Sheba and the Lord told tells him to go to Mariah 50 miles away they don't have taxis they don't have Uber there's no bus there's no train there's no planes or automobiles you're going to have to walk but God can't I do it here where I'm at can't you meet with me where I'm at right now I need you to go to where I tell you to go can I just build an altar right here couldn't I just sacrifice him right here why do I have to leave why do I have to do all that I just don't think you have to do all that stuff Lord I don't think you need to require that of me do you know who I am yeah I know who you are you're a man of faith and and people of Faith don't whine and cry and belly ache when I ask them to take a walk here's a I I I don't mean to get on your nerves today but there was a football game a few weeks ago in Kansas City and I don't care what you think about that or who you like or don't like about that but you know it was like 0 degrees and people were banging on the doors to get not into a warm facility but to an outdoor facility to wash it to watch it people men had their shirts off in zero degree weather to watch football and if we get a little bit of a dusting on I'm not trying to say you got to risk your life but let me ask you is there any trace of sacrifice is there anybody who say listen if 50,000 people can gather and watch a football game and cheer and scream and take their clothes off I wonder there's any people of Holiness who could gather in a warm room sometime and get their hands up and offer him some praise and we don't have to cheer lead you and we don't have to provoke you I wish somebody was hearing me right now but that I want to get into his presence because he's done so much for me I want to worship him I want to offer him the sacrifice so he got up in the morning he took two men two servants took his donkey took Isaac and took the things needed for an altar and a sacrifice and they walk 50 miles to Mariah on the third day someone say the third day third day he could see the place and he looked at his servants and said you stay here and me and the boy are going to go Yonder to worship what but we've come 48 49 miles Abraham where I'm going you can't come this is my This Is My Sacrifice his Sarah couldn't go lot couldn't go friends couldn't go Facebook followers and Twitter followers and Instagram followers couldn't go I'm taking the sacrifice and the Next Generation To Yonder all right what do you mean y what's yonder mean I got to thinking about this he could not articulate to those servants what God required of him all he could say was I got to go Yonder what if he told them I got to go sacrifice my boy we're not going with you ain't no way we're not going to allow that to happen do you know who this is isn't the promised child able to try to talk him out of it God's not going to require that of you he's a good and loving and gracious God Abraham couldn't tell them he couldn't articulate he couldn't find the words he couldn't find the language to tell them where he had to go so all he could say was Yonder there are some people here me right now feel the Holy Ghost right upon me at this very moment there are people you work with there are people in your family there are people you go to school with and you cannot tell them everything why you do what you do you can't explain why you dress the way you dress you can't articulate and Define while you got to come to church three times a week all you can say is it he just requires of me to go a little bit farther than you I can't explain it I can't Define it but there's something in Yonder Come on there's a place there's a place if we'll go just a little bit further than our comfort zone if we'll go a little bit further than through our traditions and Customs there is a place that we can cannot defin and all we can say is that he's calling me to a place called tell me tell me about the place tell me about the place I can't tell you anything about it I don't even know anything I just know that when I get there he's going to be there I just know that he's waiting upon me come on somebody it's time for us to go Yonder in our worship it's time for some of us to go Yonder in our consecration it's time for some of us to go Yonder in our prayer life come on come on three times a week isn't enough for me three times a week an hour each time is not enough for me I got to go Yonder on Monday I got to go Yonder on Tuesday I got to go Yonder on Saturday there's a [Applause] place brother Curtis he's he said I go Yonder to worship this is the first time in your Bible the word worship is used first time Abraham didn't say I'm going Yonder to sacrifice because he viewed sacrifice as worship yes sir yes sir show me Romans 12 And1 in the King James version here Paul says this I beseech you therefore Brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies someone say bodies who is your body it is you your being from head to toe present your bodies as a Living Sacrifice un un what holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service now show me the English Standard Version the same word that says service in the Hebrew is actually the same Hebrew word for worship so let's read it this way I appeal to you therefore Brothers by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a Living Sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God which is your spiritual worship Now show me the New Living Translation I love this one and so dear brothers and sisters I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you let them be a living and holy SA sacrifice the kind he will find acceptable this is the truly the way to worship him I'm telling you we need to see our sacrifice as worship I live this way because it's worship I dress this way because it's worship I give this way because it's worship I preach this way because it's my worship and I wonder if somebody right now would offer him would offer him some worship I don't need a keyboard I don't need a bass drum I don't need the electric guitar he's been so good to me I'm going to offer him my body as a sacrifice I'm going to offer him my life long I'm going somewhere I'm going somewhere worship listen there's a difference between praise and worship anybody can praise let everything that has breath praise the Lord a drunk can praise him a drug addict can praise him an evildoer can praise him because they've got breath in their body but it takes the redeemed of the Lord to say so it takes somebody who's been been brought out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light somebody who's been transferred from Darkness into his kingdom of light to offer him worship he said this in John 4 he said the father is seeking such who will worship Him in spirit and in truth we got to go beyond praise and get to worship praise is thanking him for what he's done worship is all offering him a sacrifice because of who he is I'm worshiping him because he's faithful I'm worshiping him because he's the Savior I'm worshiping him because he's the Creator I'm worshiping him because he's God I wish somebody would do it right now I wonder if somebody's bold enough brave enough come on come on somebody offer him the worship from your heart right now I love you Lord Lord I love you Lord I worship [Applause] you I remember waking up early in the morning when I was just a little boy and I'd hear my mom playing gospel songs I remember hearing Andre Crouch I remember hearing all kinds of gospel songs and my mother singing along with it nobody in the house but me but there was worship she taught me you can worship without a crowd you can worship why because at Yonder he's going to meet with me I wish somebody would do it right now I wish somebody would give him some worship worship until you talk in tongues worship do the Holy Ghost hit you offer yourself as a [Applause] living I don't want to view My Sacrifice as legalism I don't want to view my sacrifice and my Consecration and my obedience as legalism I want to offer my life and obedience unto him as reasonable [Applause] worship until this point he didn't know him as Jehovah Gyra he didn't know him as that he only knew him as elshadai but you'll never know him as provider until you go up the mountain Israel listen you get to Exodus and the Lord's booming Voice is coming from Mount siani and Israel says Moses you go ahead and go on up we'll stay down here and the Lord said fine you don't want me to talk to you I'll talk to somebody else for you because if you want to stay down here I'll let you but you'll never see my glory at the foot of the mountain you'll only see it at the top of the mountain and so Moses and Joshua climb up the mountain you know what happens when you stay at the bottom of the mountain you get impatient we don't know what's happened to Moses Aaron build us gods in the likeness of our image and so he builds a calf because they stay listen me tell you something when you stay at the foot of the mountain when you refuse to go up a little bit higher when you refuse to go up yonder in your sacrifice and devotedness to him you are going to become impatient and now God becomes subservient to you I don't know what's happened to Moses I don't know anything about this God so build us God so we can get some worship done around here and they started dancing around a golden calf let me tell you something if you want to go up higher you're going to have to realize it's coming with a sacrifice I'm I'm drawn to a close he gets up to the mountain Isaac's not a little boy he's about 30 years old he says Dad here's the wood here's the fire where's the sacrifice Isaac don't tell your mom but you're the sacrifice Isaac doesn't throw a tantrum he doesn't debate and try to talk himself out of obedience because Abraham didn't do that he did what Abraham showed him Dad if that's what he requires let's build the altar I can just imagine Abraham going oh God God God provide God provide God provide Isaac it's finished son I love you so much I waited for you you were the promise but I love him more and Isaac said Dad I love him more than I love my own life and Isaac gets on the Altar and they begin to strap him down he takes the knife in his hand and I just believe there was one more prayer father I've come to Yonder and I've obeyed nevertheless not my way will but thy will be done and before he can make the motion down there's a voice in heaven ABR don't do the boy any harm now I know that you love me and behind Abraham there was a ram that he didn't see before there behind him was the sacrifice he was praying for it was there before he got there but let me tell you God will always show himself to be Jehovah Gyra if you'll go up the mountain To Yonder would you stand to your feet today I want to know him more maybe that's been your [Music] prayer but God wants to know you more he says now I know there are two Tri tribes in numbers 32 Reuben and Gad Moses is teaching again preparing the people the Next Generation to take and possess the promised land in Canaan Ruben and Gad decide they have a lot of cattle and they like Gilead and jazir better so the leaders of the tribes come to Moses and they said um we don't want to go Yonder that's what they said they said we we we'd rather stay here in Gilead and jazir got a lot of cattle and Moses said you stiff neck rebellious people and he gives them a quick rundown of their Short history and you would think they'd say yeah you're right we'll come along but no they said um here's what we'll do we'll compromise a little bit we'll stay over here we're not going to go over the Jordan going to the promised land that God has told us that's that's flowing with milk and honey we're not going to do that we're going to stay here but when you fight call for us that's when we'll come Yonder but when the fight's over we're going back to [Music] comtv there are too many of us who like to come to Yonder when it's Revival we like to come to Yonder at camp meeting we like Yonder at Strong Tower and National youth convention we like those High moments of shouting and singing lots of people around but if it's Wednesday in February it's back over here in certv you see their possessions had possessed them and they'd rather have their cattle than the one who owns the cattle so many of us live below our calling and purpose because we'd rather be comfortable we'd rather listen to me we'd rather be right in our opinions I'm not getting baptized in Jesus name I'm not going to do all that that sounds like Yonder to me Holy Ghost speaking in tongues I just think I want to just believe that I've already got it Holiness which out with no man shall see the Lord that sounds like Works to [Music] me that sounds like that sounds like legalism to me it sounds like worship to me it sounds like worship him in the beauty can I tell you something Holiness is not ugly Holiness is not unkempt and uncomely Holiness he says to worship him in the beauty of Holiness and it's not sacrificed to me it's Yonder it's worship it's commitment because I want him and I trust him come on singers I wonder if somebody would lift up their hands right now I wonder if somebody would say you know what I'm tired of staying on the other side where Comfort is I want to go just a little bit further but I just want to warn you he might ask something of you he might just ask you what do you have in your hand what do you bring me what's your sacrifice what's your offering I wonder if somebody wants to go to a place called Yonder today I wonder if somebody wants to go to a place like Moses there is a place by me Moses where you can see my glory Abraham there is a place where you will know me as Jehovah Gyra your provider there is a place come on is there somebody who lift up their heart lift up their voice right now I they go to that place oh [Music] [Applause] yes he will never he will never oh come on yes I trust in God my savior [Music] my come on I want to go to that place I trust you come on come on he will [Applause] [Music] never I the Lord and he heard I the he heard he answer I saw the and he heard and he answered that's why I trust him that's why I I the Lord and he heard and he answer I the Lord and he heard and he answered I saw the Lord and he heard and he that's why I trust him that's why I trust him I the Lord and he heard and he answer I saw the Lord and he heard and he answer I saw the Lord and he heard and he that's why I I listen to me just one more [Music] moment mother's not in the room at the moment but I had go to church sit with Mom I'd much rather sit with my friends talk and pass notes at church you know but when I'd sit with Mom you know what she'd do stand up get your hands up sing and she wasn't doing that and sitting back and not doing it she was showing me I'd wake up in the mornings hear the lny wolf trio singing on a on a record and Mom crying and weeping and singing along with it mom didn't have a microphone at church she didn't want to get out in front of people she didn't like having her picture taken she didn't want to be out there but Mom worshiped and she showed me what worship was I wonder if there's some moms and dads today I wonder if there's some parents who' grabb their kids come on I don't want to go through the motions on Sunday in the morning I wonder if somebody get their kids I know they got someone that's in the in Kids Quest right now there's someone that's in here and maybe get your wife get your spouse and and say you know what we're going to do we're going to be worshippers we're going to be worshippers we're going to be some people I'm going to show you I might feel uncomfortable I might feel awkward I might just feel this a little bit embarrassed but there's somebody watching me who needs to know that there's an altar building way I want you to know there's a sacrificial way there's a way to live and I'm going to show some traces of sacrifice I'm going to show you I'm not going to send you to church I'm not going to be a spectator at church but I'm going to be a worshiper come on lift up your voice and pray
