Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The God who eats
- The sermon reads Genesis 18 at the head: the Lord appears to Abraham at his tent in the heat of the day, and Abraham runs to meet the three visitors, washes their feet, and hastens Sarah and the young man to prepare the meal he sets before them under the tree.
- God did not need to eat, and the angels did not need to eat; but covenant partners seal fellowship with a meal, and God loved the fellowship of the man he was in covenant with.
Scriptures: Genesis 18:1-8
Why Abraham was chosen
- God's call of Abraham reverses Babel: where men gathered to make a name for themselves, Abraham is told to leave his father's house and country, and God will make of him a great nation, bless him, and make his name great.
- The reason for the choice is stated in the text: God knew Abraham would command his children and his household after him that they keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment — righteousness before judgment.
- Parents carry that charge themselves; the teaching of children may not be handed off to the Sunday school or the school's teachers, for children spend more time at home than anywhere else.
Scriptures: Genesis 12:2-3; Genesis 18:18-19
Justice before judgment
- Sodom's sin was broader than one sin: the men of Sodom were wicked and sinning greatly against the Lord, and the outcry against the city — oppression crying for help — brought God down to see it, as Isaiah and Ezekiel also portray its pride, bloodshed, and callousness to the needy.
- On the way to judgment God stops at his covenant partner's tent, and Abraham's intercession delays the errand from fifty down to ten: God is not bargaining but delaying, because he feasts on mercy and not on judgment, and he did not slay the righteous with the wicked.
Scriptures: Genesis 13:13; Genesis 18:20-21
Pictures of Christ
- Christ is teeming from the chapter: the book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David and the son of Abraham, and the promised son Isaac whom Abraham would lay on the altar both point forward to him, as does the Lord washing his servants' feet after the supper Abraham's foot-washing foreshadows.
- In the Nazareth synagogue Jesus found the place where Isaiah's anointing is written — to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord — and stopped before the day of vengeance: this day is mercy, and vengeance, though it will come, is not today.

just remain standing grab your Bibles or if you're like Moses grab your tablets and we're going to go to Genesis chapter number 18 Genesis 18 allow me to give honor to our pastors our Bishop all of our leadership today we honor all those who lead and guide us and uh share the word of the Lord to us we honor them today in this great church we honor you the the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ amen thank you Pastor Anthony and Pastor for preaching words that confirmed what the Lord had given me several weeks ago and uh I just I'm going to say amen and ditto to them and so if I repeat something that they said last week uh please forgive me but I just believe the Lord confirmed a few things and I want to share that with you Genesis chapter number 18 and we're going to begin reading at verse number one Genesis chapter number 18 we'll begin reading at verse number one and the Lord appeared unto him speaking of Abra Abraham in the plains of mamry and he sat in the tent Door In the Heat of the day and he lifted up his eyes and looked and lo three men stood by him and when he saw them this is speaking of Abraham he ran to meet them from the tent door bowed himself toward the ground and said my Lord if now I have found favor in thy sight pass not away I pray thee from thy servant let a little water I pray you be fetched and wash your feet someone say wash your feets rest under the tree I'll fetch a morsel of bread and comfort ye your hearts after that ye shall pass on for therefore are ye come to your servant and they said do so do as thou Hast said and Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah and said make ready quickly three measures of fine meal knead it make cakes upon the Earth and Abraham ran unto the herd and fetched a calf tender and good and gave it unto a young man and he hasted to dress it and he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them and he stood by them under the tree someone say the tree and they did eat we're going to stay in chapter 18 today and we'll kind of meander through this chapter but I want to minister unto you from this thought the God who eats the God who eats won't you put your Bibles down and one more time would you lift up your hands and you just ask the Lord to speak to somebody or maybe yourself today Father we are so thankful for your spirit that is here and what you have been doing over the last several weeks here in our midst baptizing those drawing Sinners to repentance and faith and filling those with the Holy Ghost and the words we've heard the anointed word that has gone forth and I pray pray now again Lord that you would help me Lord your servant to speak your word with your anointing to your people and I pray Lord that the one that needs to hear this message would hear it open up our hearts to receive your word Lord be light today that you might shine forth upon us and I pray Lord that you would draw us again unto your presence to minister unto us and give us hope in Jesus name we pray and everyone said amen would you clap your hands again in today I wonder if somebody would now add their voice and give the Lord a shout of Praise come on can someone offer a shout of Praise some worship one more time oh yes oh yes you can be seated amen The God Who eats now we're introduced I talked about Abraham a few weeks ago and so I'll I I won't um rehash some of the det details of Abraham's life but I feel like the Lord just been kind of uh keeping me here in these few chapters of Genesis and his life and we're introduced to Abraham in Genesis chapter number 11 at the end of the chapter the beginning of the chapter of chapter 11 of Genesis uh we have the account of the Tower of Babel and this you might think well that's just a throwaway story here we got to get to the good stuff to chapter 12 and get to to Abraham but really the writer of Genesis uses parallels and and contrast and there's Echoes and uh that you hear throughout the scripture and things are connected and put together for a reason and so these people all the people of the earth as they've descended from Noah and his sons they they were supposed to uh be fruitful and multiply they were to spread out all over the Earth and we don't find them doing that in chapter number 11 instead they want to uh they want to stay in one place they uh they want to make a name for themselves they're all speaking the same language and their their motive is swollen with disobedience and so Genesis chapter number 11 begins with judgment the Bible says and it's I think there's some humor here is that God comes down to see the tower you know they're going to build this Tower up to heaven and yet the Bible says that God came down to even look at it you know and there's just a little humor there that in all their efforts God still has to bow down to see what they're even doing and so in in all of this God uh disperses them he he confuses their language and then we're introduced to Abraham and then we get into the thrust of his story in chapter number 12 of Genesis and it's the opposite of what was taking place at Babel as they were trying to gather together in one in one place and to be of one language and be of one mind and to make a name for themselves God finds a man after judgment that he will be a man of redemption that through Abraham God is going to continue the promise that he gave to Adam and Eve that through the seed of the woman that the the the promised son would crush the head of the serpent he would his heel would be bruised and yet this promise of redemption coming so after Judgment at Babel we have Redemption that God has chosen this man Abraham and he tells him to do the exact opposite of what they had done at Babel they uh he tells them to leave your father's house leave your Kindred leave your country he said I'll make of you a great nation I will bless you I'll bless those who bless you I'll curse those who curse you and he says I will make your name great and so what they tried to do in the flesh and through rebellion and Disobedience God judges and so he finds a man who will do everything that he says through faith and obedience you have to understand something that obedience is not in uh is not in the opposite of Faith obedience is not the opposite of faith I'm G let that settle for a second God is not opposed to obedience sir sir you have to obey Abraham leave your house leave your Kindred leave the country go do what I tell you to do I believe you Lord now go do it oh okay some of us got to have got to be talked into what our faith understands obedience is not opposed to Faith and so God is going to accomplish Redemption through a man who believes God and obeys God and through Abraham he is going to bring Redemption To The World God has a plan and he is going to fulfill it through Abraham and so what God does he enters into a covenant with Abraham and that's a great word I love the word covenant we could study about it for a year and never scratch the surface that a covenant is an oath it's an agreement it's a contract uh we we shouldn't use the word covenant flippantly because when you enter into a covenant two parties come into agreement with each other that they are going to do what the Covenant says they're going to do and God initiates a covenant with Abraham and if you go from 12 and 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 and 17 of Genesis you find God constantly uh making sure to review and uh and reaffirm his Covenant that he has with Abraham that if Abraham walks before the Lord and is perfect God is going to fulfill his word God is going to do something through Abraham and through Sarah and through their family and so this Covenant this agreement is is binding God is bound when God gets into a covenant with somebody he is bound to his word come on faith and obedience is not leaving you out there on your own but when you enter into faith and obedience in Covenant with him God is going to show up he is his promises are in him yay and they are in him amen you can count on him because if he created the Covenant he is going to make sure to fulfill the Covenant even if we don't even when we're faithless he is faithful I wish somebody was hearing me this morning I'm talking about the Covenant why would God have you thought about this why would God choose Abraham he's come from a pagan family from a pagan Place why would God choose Abraham we we're given this answer uh in chapter number 18 I'm going to jump into the middle of this story and we're going to kind of work our way forward and work our way back and then all the way through again but he says this he gives us the answer have you ever asked the question why did God choose someone like Abraham listen to what the Lord says in verse number 18 and 19 of Genesis 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation and all the nations of the Earth shall be blessed in him for I know him look at this for he will command his children and his household after him that they shall keep the way of the Lord so the first reason that God chose Abraham but because he knew Abraham would teach his children the ways of the Lord amen so he was calling Abraham because he knew Abraham would be a teacher he knew Abraham would teach his children the ways of the Lord that he is going to instruct them he is going to impart into them what he knows of God we have a responsibility today as parents to teach our children the ways of the lord we should not try to neglect that and say well the Sunday School will do it and the teachers at ACS will do it I'm telling you something I'm for that I love that I work here but let me tell you something you don't need to give your responsibility for teaching your children to somebody else they need to hear it in the home as well as in the church I wish somebody was hearing me come on they spend more time with you than they do with a teacher come on they're going to see you living the ways of the Lord walk down before me and be perfect why would he choose why would he choose Abraham he's going to teach his children but look at the next part part to do justice and judgment don't overlook that God has chosen a man who'll teach his children the ways of the Lord and that he will do justice and judgment someone say justice someone say judgment do you see what's happening here the word justice is righteousness it's to be just it's to be right it's to this is a there is an ethical portion to God's command in Abraham that not only do you have to believe you have to behave you have to live what you Proclaim I wish somebody was hearing me there is an ethical responsibility for us as people of of the name that we're not just people of the name only but that we rep we Adorn the doctrine that we Proclaim that we live out into the world what we procla I wish some somebody was hearing me right now come on our belief needs to influence our [Music] Behavior righteousness precedes judgment he says he's going to walk in Justice and judgment there is something about a man who will walk uprightly before the Lord in spite of his culture now when God called Abraham out of the her of the CES he did not bring him into Paradise instead he put him in the middle of sheam Egypt the ngev uh there was famine there's all of these places that Abraham hardly ever settles and he settles in Hebron just south of heon at The Oaks of mamory this is a beautiful place it's called The Oaks the the Trees of mamry this is a beautiful place and yet surrounding Abraham is this Godless culture it is it is it is anti- Holiness it is anti- Justice it is anti- God in all aspects he he brought him out of paganism and he didn't bring him into Paradise he left him in the world he didn't take him out of the world he kept him in the world why because the world needed somebody to be a light you're not going to do any good if I take you out of the of the ear of the Cales and bring you into into heaven I'm going to keep you in the world so you can be my representative you can be my vice Regent you can be my Ambassador you can be the one who stands before the people for me oh God have mercy here's a man who's to be light in darkness you can't shine bright unless there's darkness and this is what he this is what surrounds him this is what he is not far from a place called Sodom and gomorah as we're introduced to this story these three visitors one being the Lord and it seems that two are angels that are with him they are on their way to Sodom and they're walking through mamory and they're on their way to Sodom now when I say Sodom and you hear the word Sodom and you read the word Sodom you immediately probably think of one particular sin but that's not the only sin that was going on in Sodom the Bible says this the Lord says I I want to go and see the Cry of this people because it is great because their sin is very Grievious before me and see whether they have done all together to The Cry of it which is come unto me someone say cry C now this is not just tears flowing down your face and you're uh you're sad no this this word cry in the Hebrew or if you're reading another translation it says outcry this Hebrew word means a scream a cry for help this is something you would do if you're being attacked or you're going through great suffering or cruelty this is a cry for help it's the same word that we find early in Exodus when the children of Israel cry out to God for their oppression taking place in uh in Egypt we use this word uh cry outcry in the Psalms when it's in in times of distress this is the Cry of Sodom something terrible is happening there and God wants to go and see it and he's going to do something about it judgment is coming but you're thinking of one sin taking place in Sodom and gomorah but that's not the only sin that's taking place in Sodom in Genesis chapter number 13 the Bible says that the men of Sodom were Wicked and sinning greatly against the Lord and the use of this word outcry means there's some sort of Oppression taking place in this area in Genesis 19 we read of all the perversion and violent sexual immorality that's characterized by this place in Deuteronomy 29 and 23 it says the part of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is unbridled idolatry and social evils Isaiah portrays Jerusalem of his own days he pictures them with colors of Sodom and gomorah and condemns it for its Bloodshed corruption and Injustice another place Isaiah says that they are guilty of great pride Ezekiel in his prophetic book using uh amazing imagery he he he he paints Judah like Sodom and Gomorrah saying they are full of arrogance affluence and callous to the needy they're over proud overfed and underc concerned there's evil and Injustice happening in Sodom and there's a cry for help and God comes down to see it it's just like in chapter 11 that God came down to see the tower God knows what's happening God's not ignorant he omniscient he knows everything nothing is hidden from his sight but sometimes God wants to use some language that we can understand that God wants to come down and see for himself how bad it is that the cry this Hebrew word this outcry is so great this is so bad that God is coming himself to bring judgment someone say judgment Jud oh don't they deserve it they deserve the Judgment of God they're full of sin and wickedness and oppression oh there's no justice there's no righteous that's taking place in Sodom oh there's nothing but pride and arrogance and sin and evil and immorality and perversion and Sodom of course we want judgment bring down judgment God get them for their sins don't they deserve it is this not a picture of our own day is this not a picture of America we just stay right here in in the right here in our own country we have all of this taking place right here and it's on your TV it's on my TV it's on the news it's on Netflix it's everywhere you go it's on the radio it's on podcast no matter where you go we are inundated with evil and Antichrist I'm not looking for the Antichrist he's already here it's the spirit of antichrist and anything that is anti- God is Antichrist and let me tell you God is on his way come on God's not blind to what's taking place in America God's not blind to The Killing and the murdering of millions of unborn babies God hears the cry but let me tell you something you know why we're still here to be a [Music] light you know why we're still here because Redemption draweth nigh that we're still here to be a light in a Darkness we're still a city set upon a hill well come on somebody I wish somebody was hearing me right now we are here to be salt in the earth oh here they comeall here comes the Lord and two angels and these are going to I I assume the two angels that will go into chapter number n tun and go who go and visit this wicked City and they're on their way for judgment someone say judgment they're on their way to judgment but yet on the way to judgment they stop at mamry yeah on the way to judgment they want to see Abraham my God have mercy it's the the Bible says it's the heat of the day now this is not uh East Tennessee heat where it's going to be 50 degrees tomorrow this is this is Sister Kelly this is this is worse than Louisiana you know this is uh brother Brian this is this is worse than East Texas heat you know this is Middle East heat in the middle of the the hottest part of the day here comes God and His angels they've got judgment on their mind and they walk through Abraham's neighborhood and Abraham sitting at the door of his tent trying to cool off a little bit he's just trying to get out of the sun Sarah is in the house doing something and Abraham looks up and he sees three visitors at the heat of the day and these must be special people there there must have been something about him that Abraham recognized there was something happening here and Abraham realized we've got special guests today God is going to show up and talk to Abraham and Abraham sees them and he falls down and Bows before them I it looks like you're on your way somewhere but if I could just trouble you for for a moment could I wash your feet and uh would you like to have something to eat and God on his way to judgment says that doesn't sound so bad now you might be thinking like I'm thinking and I was thinking a few weeks ago when this was dropped into my spirit that God doesn't need to eat I'm G to say it again because you didn't catch it I said God doesn't need to eat Angels don't need to eat yet here is God on his way to judgment and he stops for a meal a meal that he doesn't need yes in the Old Testament sacrificial system there would be there would be offerings of food there' be offerings of food meat offerings and meal offerings and drink offerings yet God did not need to eat God didn't need to eat the meat he didn't need need to eat the grain he didn't need to drink the water but yet it was an offering and it was in it was in reference to the Covenant that he had between him and Israel because anytime there was a there was a covenant any times two people two parties entered into a covenant there was a meal and so yes God did not need to eat but God loved Fellowship God Loved a meal with those he would be in Covenant with oh God I'm going somewhere right now and so here's God on his way to judgment Here Comes God on his way to bring down wrath he stops by redemption's house he stops by his Covenant partners house and Abraham says how would you like to stay for dinner have you thought about this God doesn't need to eat and we have the same type of situation takes place in the judges between Gideon and Samson's parents that when Gideon sees the Lord he wants to have a meal with him and instead it burns up same thing takes place with Samson and and his parents it he just burns it up he doesn't have to eat it because God doesn't need to eat but yet here in Genesis chapter number number 18 God who does not need to eat God who does not need the sustenance to continue another day God stops and has a meal with his Covenant [Music] partner but now I want you to think about something let's read this together I I want you to I want you to see this for a second because something's happening here that we don't need to overlook he says first of all let me wash your feet I'm sure your feet are Dusty from the ground you've been walking a long way I don't know where you come from but it looks like you're going somewhere can I wash your feet and then I'd like to have a meal for you he says he just can you just sit right here for a second uh can you sit here you and your friends sit here uh and it just screams hurry doesn't it he hastens to Sarah can you imagine Sarah in in the tent and and Abraham comes running in at the heat of the day she's already got the dishes put up now listen isn't this something I remember this as a kid mom would get the house clean and she'd say she soon as she get the house clean she'd say now don't mess up my kitchen how am I supposed to eat I've already cleaned it up what you and we do it now I got a little girl now as soon as we get the what are you into now just got to eat got to eat and can you imagine Abraham running into the house saying Sarah just sliding in we got guests and I need you to cook cook I've got my dishes put I just got them clean Abe I'm so sorry but these are special guests and the Bible says here the Bible says he he won uh three seas of fine meal and I look this up in my International Bible background commentary and three SE of fine meal is 20 quarts this isn't Texas Roadhouse bread this isn't Olive Garden bread sticks some of y'all are dying right now 20 courts he is not going to spare anything you know how long it takes to make bread in a conventional oven today and yet here is Abraham wanting 20 cart a fine flour to be made for bread and how long is that going to take her to make In the Heat of the day without an oven and here's the Lord sitting under a tree on his way to judgment he doesn't need to eat and yet Abraham says I got need 20 quarts to make bread not only that he says go get the best cow that we've got go get the cow I need you to get a cow what you want the small I don't want the small one I want the big cow you want the big cow you know how long that's going to take to kill it to skin it to get the meat off of it to drain the blood out of it and here's God sitting under a tree on his way to judgment and Abraham's making bread he's getting meat ready then he says get me some milk I'm going to make me some yogurt I've got to get something to go along with this how long is it going to take him to Milk The Cow and to turn the butter and God sitting under a tree on his way to judgment I'm telling you right now God doesn't need to eat but God Feast on Mercy let me tell you God was saying let me take a little time I know judgment is deserved but I'm going to wait as long as I can because God doesn't Feast on judgment he feasts on Mercy they don't need another day they don't need another hour but God says I'm going to give them another opportunity I'm going to give them another hour to repent I'm going to give them a little time are y'all hearing me right now God could snap his finger and bring judgment down on Sodom but instead he's sitting under a tree eating a meal with his Covenant partner who will bring red I wish somebody was hearing me right now don't you think they deserve something Lord Abraham I chose you because you like justice then judgment that's right some of us got a backwards we want judgment then justice but God doesn't put judgment first he puts Justice first and he wants mercy first yes did thought them need to they needed they needed the the judgment and condemnation and the wrath of God I'm sure they did but Abraham said can you sit here a little bit longer I know you look busy I know you got places to go but I wonder if you can sit here for one more moment and God says take your time go get the best cow go get the best flower I've got plenty of time why because I want them to repent I'm going to show them a little Mercy though they do not deserve it so a God who doesn't need eat stops and have fellowship with this Covenant part I wish somebody right now would give him some praise and some worship for his Mercy it's by his mercies we're not consumed it's by his Mercy that we're not [Music] consumed you know why because God is consumed with mercy God feasts on Mercy he feasts on Grace Justice always comes before judgment and on his way to bring judgment he stops to have Fellowship get them God get them God rain down fire there were some disciples who were like that shouldn't we craw call down fire right now and consume and he he said you don't know what Spirit you're of right that's right oh they deserve judgment they deser come on God come on God get them get them get them not our God God is saying I'll give them another day I'll give them another opportunity I can snap my fingers but they I'm telling you justice is always better than my judgment Grace is always better he didn't come to condemn the world but he come to save the world I've come to tell somebody if you're here right now he's extended Mercy unto you if you're here today there's mercy here for you today come on if you're still breathing there's still Grace if you're still having a heartbeat there's still Mercy say come on I'm glad he didn't give up on me I'm glad he didn't give up on you but Mercy came to have a me I somebody would worship [Applause] [Music] him I know you deserve condemnation but he does not want to slay he wants to save he does not want to slay he wants to save I can just imagine Abraham he's just watching you need anything else you want anything else give me a little bit more of that give me a little that more that yogurt there oh right that's great I'm more the yogurt you want another piece of meat oh yeah do you got any riby I got plenty of ribi I killed the whole cow my Lord have mercy goty you got any more of that you know you're at Olive Garden you're saying just keep bringing the bread just keep bringing the bread keep I can just imagine the Lord and his angels who never had to eat before saying keep bringing the bread I'm on my way to judgment but I'd rather have a meal with somebody who loves Mercy I'd rather have a meal with somebody who loves Grace come on I want to know is there anybody who still loves Mercy is anybody still love Grace his grace was sufficient for me his grace is not going to run out for [Music] [Applause] you I'm going somewhere I promise I can imagine they put their put put their bowl down and put their cup down and I can just imagine there's just a little bit of a a stretching here and they begin to put their sandals back on and stand up and Abraham says where you where you going where you going what you got going on today it's late where you got to go we're we're on our way somewhere and we're heading to Sodom and the Lord his two angels begin to make their way to Sodom and and and Abraham leaves the dishes behind he runs out before him and says it looks like he got judgment on your mind now listen those are some bad folks down there but you wouldn't slay the righteous with the wicked would you yeah you seem so merciful and you seem so good you chose me you you wouldn't kill all the righteous with the Wicked with you what what are you asking for Abraham H if there's 50 if there's 50 people there you won't kill them you won't you won't destroy it and the Lord says sure for 50 I won't how about 45 you wouldn't do you wouldn't slay the righteous with the wicked if there's 45 and the Lord goes okay 45 it is now this is not bargaining here God's not bargaining If he if God was bargaining he would have said how about 75 75 75 God's not God's not bartering what God is doing he's delaying I got places to go but Abraham you know what I like for you to do is what Anthony talked about last week you're interceding on the behalf of people you don't even know because you want others to experience the same Mercy that you've experienced ah my God I brought you out of the earth of the Cales and you're walking before me and being perfect and you love Justice and you love your children and you love my ways and you love people more than you love positions come on somebody we are in the soul business we are in the people business and you better love people more than you love positions 40 you won't do it for 40 40 you wouldn't do it for 40 would you no I wouldn't do it for 40 Abraham how about 30 would you stop you would do it you wouldn't you wouldn't slay the righteous with the wicked for 30 and mercy just kept saying whatever you want Abraham delay me as long as you want Abraham come on my Mercy is Everlasting my Mercy's new every morning you're just a I'm on somebody judgment yes they deserve deserve judgment but I God would rather extend Mercy than extend judgment and he gets down all the way to 10 he says fine if there's not 10 and you might think well God broke the Covenant if God broke it no he didn't he did exactly what Abraham said he did not slay the righteous with the wicked he brought he brought lot and his girls out of there Abraham may have never seen them Abraham may have never come into contact with them ever again I want you to know there are are some people that we are saving right now by our giving and by our praying by our witness that we may never come into contact with but God is saying I will not slay the righteous with the wicked because I love Justice more than I love judgment and I Feast on Mercy more than I Feast on condemnation come on stand to your feet musicians come onu I I read this a few weeks ago I'll tell you how I got to how I got here I was walking I was listening to a boring lecture and the lecturer said have you ever thought about how long it would take for him to make that meal and I stopped in my tracks and that's all he said he kept going on boring lecture I was like Lord Jesus have mercy so I stopped put it in my notes kept walking kept thinking about it and it was bugging me I mean it just got all in me but then I started to realize something that Jesus Christ is teeming from this chapter there are pictures of Christ all through this chapter show me brother Nate okay Matthew 1 and one these be the Gen the the generations of Jesus Christ the son of David and the son of Abraham here in this story in the middle of the story Abraham and Sarah hear the promise again that Sarah is going to have a promised Son by the name of Isaac and it's going to be Isaac that he's going to lay upon that altar that I preached about a few weeks ago about a place called Yonder I'm not done God's not done how about this does doesn't is this not just a picture of the Last Supper he takes off the towel takes off his Robee puts on the towel gets down and washes their feet Abraham washes his Lord's feet but in the New Testament the Lord is washing his servants feet is this not take this bread this is not 20 quarts of fine flour this is his body take and eat because if you eat this you are a part of what's that c word that I used earlier Covenant and it is the New Covenant between those who partake of my body and of My Flesh and this is my blood what is shed abroad to bring about the New Testament I'm not done the Lord and his angels sat under a tree and where did Jesus Christ go after he left this the the Last Supper he went and he prayed and they took him to a Calvary tree I'm not done he's on his way to bring judgment on people who deserve it in the New Testament Jesus Christ took the Judgment he was bruised for our iniquity he was crushed for our transgressions he was stricken and smitten of God and instead of them getting judgment he took our judgment so we could have I wish somebody was hearing me right now he took our place he was the substitute he was the one who took our place when we deserve it let me tell you that's not Justice that's Injustice but in the eyes of God his Justice went before his judgment and his judgment brings Justice to us come on out almost done my Lord thank one more thing and I'm out of here you know what they said about him you know what they said about Jesus he eats and drinks with Sinners he's a wine bibber he's a GL [Music] nothing he's just doing what Genesis 18 had done that he's going to eat with those he wants to be in fellowship and Covenant yes that's right but in Luke chapter number four this is one of the first portions of scripture that I fell in love with when I first started preaching the Lord is in the synagogue in Nazareth his hometown they hand him the book of the prophet Isaiah some of y'all think about the chosen right now it's in your mind it's beautiful and he opens the scroll the Bible says he found the place where it was written what place did he find Nothing by accident the spirit of the Lord is upon me because Heath anointed me to preach the gospel to who the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted preach Deliverance to the captives recovering of sight to the blind set at Liberty them that are AB bruised to preach the acceptable year of the Lord he is reading from Isaiah chapter number 61 he stops rolls up the scroll hands it back to the attendant sits down and says and this is fulfilled in your hearing today hallu but everyone in that room knew that chapter and he left something out he left something out from that prophecy let's read it Isaiah 61 1-2 the spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord ha anointed me to preach the good things the Good Tidings unto the meek he has sent me to bind up the Brokenhearted to Proclaim Liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of Vengeance Jesus didn't read that that part because it wasn't time for vengeance it was time for Redemption my God I'm Mercy he said this day this is fulfilled in your ears what are you saying this is the day of salvation and vengeance is coming but it's not today today's Mercy today's grace I wish somebody would lift up their hands right now he's reaching for somebody today it's your day come on if you've not believed if you've not repented if you've not been baptized if you want the Holy Ghost it's here for you today Vengeance will come Vengeance will come but it's not today I don't know when it will be but it's not right now and I wonder if somebody will run to Mercy I wonder if somebody will come and feast with the God who eats and he loves to Feast on Mercy he will if he will forgive you he will redeem you he will restore you he'll bring Health back to you he'll set the captives free this is the acceptable year I wonder if somebody lift up their hands they begin to sing come on there is redemption and there is Mercy In This Place his Mercy endures forever his Mercy endures forever you are good oh yes you are oh you are good and your mercy is forever oh yes you are good come on today is a day of Mercy you are good his mercies are new every morning you are good and it's by his mercies we're not consumed come on he wants to Fellowship [Music] listen to me listen listen there's somebody in this room who needs to hear this but there's somebody over in the other side there's somebody in the world in your family your neighborhood you work with who needs for you to pray on their behalf I want you to know there's another day there's another day of Mercy there's another day of Grace and what we need to do right now is the people of God those he is Inc with we need to pray on their behalf I wonder if somebody right now will lift up their hands and begin to pray for somebody maybe it's a family member a brother a sister maybe it's a coworker maybe it's a daughter or a son but I want you to pray for them I want you to know God he Delights in Mercy he Delights in Grace and what he wants is for somebody to pray for them to interceed for them can you lift up your voice come on come on let their name come from your lips right now and begin to pray there is a spirit of mercy and Grace going out he come
