Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Not by might, nor by power

  • The word of the Lord to Zerubabel is the sermon's text: not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
  • The hands that laid the foundation of the house will also finish it, and the great mountain will become a plain before him.
  • Over the rebuilding stands the sermon's question: who has despised the day of small things?

Scriptures: Zechariah 4:6-10

God begins with small things

  • God formed man from the dust of the ground, and chose Abraham, a wandering idolater, to become the father of many nations.
  • The Lord did not choose Israel for their number: they were the fewest of all people, yet his influence through them filled the earth.
  • Gideon, the least in his father's house, took three hundred men against an army of thousands, and a shepherd boy faced the giant with small stones.
  • A widow's small offering drew the Lord's attention at the temple, and faith as a grain of mustard seed moves mountains.
  • About a hundred and twenty people waited in an upper room for the Holy Ghost, and the church still feels the effects of that small room.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 7:7; Judges 6:15; Matthew 17:20

A plumb line, not a tape measure

  • God did not put a tape measure in Zerubabel's hand but a plumb line: he is not asking how we measure against others, but whether we are aligned with his will.
  • He did not ask Zerubabel to build Solomon's temple; he asked him to build the temple for that day, and he asks each believer for obedience to his own call.
  • Comparing ourselves with others - in giving, in praying, in calling - is the tape measure; faithfulness to what God asked is the plumb line.

Scriptures: Zechariah 4:6-10

The plumb line in your hand

  • Parents, teachers, leaders, widows, young people, senior saints, and prayer warriors each hold a plumb line: small, faithful acts that God sees.
  • The weight of the plumb line points to the foundation: a household built on the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone.
  • The altar call is to put the tape measure down: not by might, not by power, but by his Spirit, through small acts of obedience and faith.

Would you lift up the name of Jesus? Come on. Would you lift up the name of Jesus? Come on. Would you just lift up that wonderful name? Neither is there salvation and any other. There's no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Would you just lift up your hands and would you just just say the name of Jesus over your situation, over your circumstance, just say the name of Jesus. If it's healing, if it's deliverance, whatever it is, he can do it today. Now, would you clap your hands? And will you give that name praise? Oh, I wish somebody would give him a praise you've yet to give him today. Oh yes, the mighty name of Jesus. Just remain standing. Get your Bibles, your devices, whatever you use to engage with the scripture. We're going to go to Zechariah chapter number four. Zechariah chapter number four. and give honor to all of our leadership, our pastor, our bishop, all the ministry and the saints of God today. And I give honor to the Hudson family. We love and appreciate them. We're praying for them. Thankful that we are able to celebrate Sister Eve and all she's done and her impact teaching and leading all of these years. But the fruit of that is right here in this sanctuary that they're not missing out at being in the house of the Lord because that's where she served. She served the Lord with great passion and vigor and her family is the fruit of that. We're thankful and give honor to them today. Zechariah chapter number four. Want to read a few verses and a couple of these I'm sure are familiar to you. Zechariah chapter number four beginning at verse 6. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saeth the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, oh great mountain, before Zerubabel, thou shalt become a plain, and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof, with shoutings, crying, grace, grace unto it. Moreover, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubabel have laid the foundation of this house. His hands shall also finish it, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you." And here's where I want to draw from today. Verse 10. For who hath despised the day of small things? For they shall rejoice and shall see the plummet or the plum line in the hand of Zerubabel with those seven. They are the eyes of the Lord which run to and fro through the earth. Who hath despised the day of small things. Today I want to minister to you for a few moments with that thought, the day of small things. Would you put your Bibles and your devices down and would you lift up your hands and would you lift up your heart and your voices and ask the Lord to speak to us today? Father, we're so thankful for your spirit that is in this room. We're thankful for the ministry that's taken place here, the saints that are gathered. But Lord, I pray that you would minister through your word, the inspired, infallible, inherent word of God. Lord, even though that I am imperfect and flawed, I pray that you would help me to minister your word with your perfect anointing in spirit today. In Jesus name we pray. And everyone said, "Amen." Now, would you clap your hands one more time to the to Jesus? And you can be seated. The day of small things. One of my favorite writers. He's been passed for many, many, many, many years, decades. Charles Spurgeon, the larger than life, and he was called the prince of preachers. He's from London and pastored the Metropolitan Tabernacle. He wrote this from this verse. He said, "It is a very great folly to despise the day of small things, for it is usually God's way to begin his great works with small things. We see it every day, for the first dawn of light is but feeble, and yet by and by it grows into the full noon tide, heat and glory. How tiny is the seed that is grown in the garden, yet out of it there comes the lovely flower. How small is the acorn, but how great is the oak that grows from it. God's preferred method of doing great things is to use the smallest of things. Often we can feel insignificant, useless, invaluable. But I want you to understand that we must see our lives and our work and our efforts through the lens of Jesus. Right where you are today, you are making a difference and you can make a difference. But a lot of the time we look at ourselves or we view ourselves as grasshoppers. We view ourselves as small and insignificant and of no great circumstance. And perhaps we begin to measure ourselves against others. And Paul would say to the Corinthians that that is unwise. But I want you to see that God uses the small things. He uses the little things to do great things. And we find this throughout all the pages of scripture. This pattern repeated again and again that God delights in taking what the world considers small, insignificant, weak, and perhaps even unlikely, and using it to display his glory. Time after time, he chooses the humble, the overlooked, and the ordinary so that no one can boast in their flesh or in themselves. But all glory would go to him. We find it in the very first few chapters of the Bible. Adam records the creation of man. God took the dirt of the ground to create him. And so God took something as as insignificant as dirt to produce man. God can do much even with just a little bit of dirt if he can get his hands upon it. What about Abraham in Genesis 12? We read that God chose a pagan idoltor who roamed the desert to make him a father of many nations. How about the people of Israel? God did not choose Israel because of their size. Deuteronomy 7:7 says, "The Lord did not set his love upon you nor choose you because you were more in number than any people, for you were the fewest of all people. And yet look at all of the influence that Israel had in the earth." How about Gideon's 300? Who would God send to war with the oppressing Midianite army? The Lord chose Gideon, a man who said in Judges 6, "Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house." Yet, it would be Gideon who took 300 men and defeated an army of thousands. What about David? The Lord did not choose the tallest or the strongest or the oldest of Jesse's sons to become the second king of Israel. Instead, God chose the youngest and smallest and the least of his sons. Keep in mind, it was not an army that defeated the giant Goliath or a strong king, but it was a shepherd boy who could use small stones and a sling. How about we jump over to the New Testament? How about the twel apostles? When Jesus came to earth, he did not choose an army to follow him. Instead, he chose 12 men, some who were outcasts, fishermen, some beyond the social norms of their culture. And they made that he made those 12 to change the world. Jesus said this, "How many people does it take for him to show up?" He said, "If two of you agree on earth about anything that they ask, it will be done for them from my father. Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am." I'm talking about small things. WHAT JES WHAT WHAT WHAT GOT JESUS'S attent or attention at the temple? A widow and her small offering. Her small offering was not small to Jesus though. He said, "Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of these others." How about Zakius? Who did Jesus want to go and have lunch with? It was a man of small stature by the name of Zakius who had to climb up a tree to simply get a view or a glimpse of Jesus. HOW ABOUT YOUR FAITH? HOW MUCH FAITH do you have to have to move mountains? Jesus said in Matthew 17 and 20, because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move here to there, and it will move. So it's not great faith that God can use. It can be small faith that God can use. How about the day of Pentecost? How many people were in the upper room? About 120 people were gathered together praying for many days until the Holy Ghost fell. And we are feeling the effects to this very moment today from those 120 in a small room in Jerusalem. I'm talking about the day of small things that God can use anything. doesn't have to use great things, big things, large things, rich things, wealthy things, great numbers. What God is looking for is willingness. What God is looking for is willingness. Willingness is wrapped up into your potential. And potential is not found in great numbers. It is found in your willingness. So when you read this text in Zechariah, let me take a quick drink here. The prophet Zachchariah ministered during the rebuilding of the temple after Israel had rebelled and they were exiled from the promised land. Uh there were those who were sent back uh after 70 years of being in Babylonian captivity uh that God sent a remnant back to Jerusalem and they wanted to rebuild the temple. And so it's under the the leadership of Zerubabel who was a descendant of King David and uh the Persian appointed governor of Judah at the time they immediately laid the foundation of the temple and there was great joy. Ezra tells us about that. But when the older priests and the Levites had seen Solomon's glorious temple and they saw the new foundation of what Jerubable was building, they began to weep aloud. To them it looked small. It looked inferior to the previous temple and the previous glory of Solomon's temple. They wept over it. They they they were they were disappointed in the side. You see, they were comparing what Zerubabel was doing with what Solomon had done. And so there was also this uh fierce opposition from all the surrounding nations. And they were sending accusing letters to the Persian court. And the work of the temple was stopped by royal decree. And for about 16 years, the work laid dormant. The people became discouraged and turned their attention to building their old houses while the house of God remained in ruins. But God in his faithfulness raised up two prophets during this reign. Haggi and Zachchariah. And through their preaching, the spirit of God stirred up Zerubabel, Joshua, the high priest, and the remnant to resume the work of rebuilding the temple. It is right in the middle of all of this discouragement, opposition from the outside and dissension on the inside. During a time of struggling season, Zechariah receives one of the most encouraging visions in all of scripture that we've read here in chapter 4. The prophet sees a golden lampstand with a bowl on top and seven large lamps burning. On either side stood olive trees that continually supply oil to the lampstand. The angel explains that this is a picture of the work of God being sustained not by human strength and effort or political power but it's HIS SPIRIT THAT IS HELPING them to get this project done. And this is the word that he gives him. This is the word to Zerubabel. We quote this all the time. Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts. It's not might, IT'S NOT POWER, BUT IT'S MY spirit that will help you. You don't have to be large. You don't have to be wealthy. YOU DON'T HAVE to have all the power AND THE POLITICAL MIGHT. THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. I'm just wanting YOU TO DO WHAT I'VE ASKED YOU to do. AND IF YOU'LL DO THAT, MY SPIRIT will empower YOU AND HELP YOU ACCOMPLISH what I've called you to do. This is what I love. If it's God's will, it's God's will. >> I'm going to say it again. If it's God's will, it's God's will. IF HE'S CALLED YOU TO IT, HE'S NOT SIMPLY looking at your life and saying you what you are CAPABLE OF. HE'S SEEING WHAT HE IS CAPABLE OF through you and your obedience to him. So it's NOT BY MIGHT, IT'S NOT BY STRENGTH, IT'S NOT BY POWER, BUT IT'S GOD'S spirit that we are to rely upon. >> And so God assures Zerubable that the same hands that laid the foundation would also be the same hands that would finish the temple. And then here comes our text in verse number 10. For who hath despised the day of small things? So basically HE'S SAYING IS WHO around you is despising this work that I've called you to do? Who's weeping over the size and who's weeping over the former glory and what it is now? Who's who's despising this? Because I want you to UNDERSTAND ZERUBABEL, IT'S NOT THEM who commissioned you, it's me. It's not them who will finish it. It's you. Sometimes we get so caught up with what the naysayers. >> Are y'all hearing me today? You're not you're not you're not deaf from all the fireworks last night, are you? >> BUT SOMETIMES WE CAN TUNE OUR ears to all the negative voices. >> We can we can and sometimes those negative voices are our own. >> Sometimes it's those among us that were negative. Oh, you can't do it and you'll never make it and you'll never get this finished and you'll never GET THIS STARTED. YOU'LL NEVER YOU'LL NEVER you'll never you'll never. And this is WHERE THE LORD SAYS, WHO'S DESPISING THIS? IT'S NOT THEIR CALL. IT'S NOT THEIR COMMISSION. THAT'S MINE. DON'T YOU DARE DESPISE WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW, ZERUBABEL. DON'T DON'T YOU DESPISE WHAT GOD'S TRYING TO DO IN YOUR LIFE BECAUSE IT MIGHT LOOK SMALL, BUT I'M TELLING YOU, ONCE WE GET FINISHED WITH THIS THING, ONCE WE ACCOMPLISH WHAT GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO DO, >> don't despise the day of small things. Why? For they shall rejoice. Those who once DESPISED WILL END UP REJOICING. THOSE WHO ARE THE NAYSAYERS will come around and start rejoicing with you once we got got this finished. BUT IT'S NOT GOING to be because they've been negative and they're naysayers. It's going TO BE BY GOD'S SPIRIT that we get this accomplished AND SHALL SEE THEY SHALL SEE the plummet in the hand of Zerubabel with those seven. Now, I got to thinking about this and I'm not going to preach real long today. I got to thinking about this. the plumbing or the plum line. There's probably some construction workers in here who understand what I'm talking about. And when you get inspired, sometimes you get inspired at the last minute and you have to make your own plum line. Okay? That's what I had to do this morning. I went into the that garage out there that we have across the hall. You would you wouldn't believe what you can find in there if you just do a little searching. Sister Jamie's got that all so organized. I'm like, what can I make a plummet line with? I found a screw and some fishing line. So, I made me a plummet line. I made me a plum line today. This was a tool that the builders Now, this is this is a makeshift one. All right. This was they would make this to make sure every wall was straight, true, level, and aligned. And you're not going to believe this. You're not going to believe this. This city boy right here, when I when I was a teenager, when I was a young teenager, when I was 14 years old, 15 years old, I started working in construction. Yeah. You believe that? Let me tell you why I started working in construction. My brother-in-law did trim work and he was full-time doing that. Well, I was about 15 years old and I went to church camp. Um I went to church camp and see back in the day we didn't have cell phones. We had real phones as you were plugged into the wall, you know. And um and when you had met somebody who lived in a different city or a different county, that was called young people, a collect call. You remember that? This was before the days of calling cards where you can plug in that. Y'all know what I'm talking about? Calling cards. You can get you pay for it and you get about 60 minutes for like I don't know $10, something like that. Well, I didn't know that. I was 15, didn't have a job. I met this girl at church camp and I started calling her. not knowing that it was a collect call. And when mother found the the the phone bill that month, she goes, "Guess what you're doing the rest of the summer?" I was LIKE, "WHAT?" SHE'S LIKE, "GOING TO WORK. You're paying off this." Yeah, that's what I had to do. I had to go pay that thing off. I'll never forget my brother-in-law gave me my first $100 bill. Never seen one before in my entire life. He handed me that crisp $100 bill to work a few days that week. And my mom went, "You got two more of those coming? I'm going to need both of those." It was over $300 that phone bill. Anyway, so I had to work construction. I did that for a few for a few years. We did trim work and we would mostly what I would do was trim work and they would hang cabinets. I was the guy who held the cabinet while they screwed it in. But what they would do, what they would do is they had a chalk line. Had a chalk line. Now they've got lasers. I think they still use those chalk reels. And we would take that chalk line and you take that chalk line and hang it across the wall. And then you'd pull it and you could see that chalk and it would give you a straight line. And I'd be down there like this. One more second, Nate. One more second. One more. I'm like, it's been 10 minutes. My knees are wobbling. They they screw that thing in. But the point of it of of the plum line and the chalk line was to make sure everything is level and everything is in order and in balance. HERE'S A DIFFERENCE. GOD SAID ZERUBABEL is going to have in his hand a plum line. The plum line would have a weight like this on a line and they would they would they would drop it down. They make sure it was straight and they'd wait and they'd hold it down. He said he's going to have a plum line in HIS HAND. GOD DID NOT SAY he's going to put a measure, a tape measure in his hand. There's a difference between a plum line and a tape measure. SOME OF US WANT TO MEASURE what we're doing for God against everybody else. SOME OF US WANT TO MEASURE WHAT EVERYBODY else is doing compared to us. Some of us want to measure and make SURE I WANT HOW FAR HAVE YOU GOT AND HOW where have you come from? HOW MUCH FURTHER DO I HAVE TO GO AND HOW MUCH WAS MY OFFERING THIS MONTH COMPARED TO SO AND SO AND HOW MUCH DID THEY GIVE AND HOW MUCH DID I GIVE AND WHAT did they give and NOT GIVE. GOD SAID I DIDN'T PUT A MEASURING. I DIDN'T PUT A TAPE MEASURE IN HIS HAND. I PUT A PLUM LINE IN HIS HAND BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE MEASUREMENT. GOD WANTS TO KNOW IF YOU'RE ALIGNED WITH HIS WILL. MY GOD, I FEEL HIM RIGHT NOW. HE'S NOT ASKING IF YOU'RE BIG ENOUGH AND YOU'RE STRONG ENOUGH AND YOU'RE WEALTHY ENOUGH. HE JUST WANTS TO KNOW, ARE YOU ALIGNED WITH MY WILL. My Lord, I feel like preaching today. DON'T DESPISE THE SMALL THINGS. IT MIGHT BE SMALL, BUT I'M ALIGNED. My God, I feel him. >> IT MIGHT NOT BE AS MUCH AS SOMEBODY ELSE. AND I I MIGHT NOT PRAY AS MUCH AS THEY DO, AND I MIGHT NOT DO AS MUCH AS THEY DO, BUT I'm aligned. You see, >> if I can just I'm telling if if if they would just if they would just give me the opportunity, if they would just if they just would let me How about you get the plum line in your life instead of get the get get the tape measure out of your hand. Huh? You see th this is how much they gave and this is how much they do. and I'll I'll never be able to do that and I'll never be able to do this and I'll never be able to do that. God said, "I didn't ask you to do it." This is what I feel like the Lord spoke to me before I walked out of here today. God did not ask Zerubable to build Solomon's temple. He asked him to build that temple for that day. YOU SEE, SOME OF US WANT TO BUILD WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING ELSE FOR THAT EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING. IF I can just get a microphone in my hand and if I can just have that opportunity and if I can just get that promotion, God's saying, "I'm not asking you to do that." You know, when you get to heaven, when I get to heaven, when we get to heaven, GOD IS NOT GOING TO SAY, "WHY WEREN'T YOU MOSES? >> WHY WEREN'T YOU THE APOSTLE PAUL? Why weren't you, Bishop Mcool? Pastor Mark Mcool, why aren't you, Bishop Mcool? You sound like him. Have the wisdom. WHY, BUT WHY DON'T YOU preach 15 times a week, build a church, build a school, because God didn't ask him to be Billy Mcool. HE WANTS HIM TO BE YOU'RE not hearing me today. I'M NOT CALLED TO BE THE APOSTLE PAUL AND I'M NOT CALLED TO BE BISHOP MCCCO. I'M CALLED TO BE ME AND YOU'RE CALLED TO GOD DOESN'T NEED MORE OF ME. AND YOU COME ON SOMEBODY. WE NEED TO PUT THE MEASURING. WE NEED TO PUT THE TAPE MEASURE DOWN AND SAY, YOU KNOW WHAT, GOD, I'M NOT GOING TO COMPARE MYSELF TO THEM, BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW, AM I ALIGNED TO YOUR WILL? AM I DOING WHAT YOU CALLED ME TO DO? AM I BEING OBEDIENT TO THE CALL OF GOD? THAT'S WHAT HE WANTS. HE JUST WANTS TO KNOW, are you being obedient? God will do the measuring. God will do the measuring. We don't need to measure ourselves against other people. Let me just go ahead and say this. We don't need to measure First Apostolic Church >> against some church you WATCH ON YOUTUBE. WHY don't we do THIS OVER HERE AND WHY DON'T WE DO THAT OVER HERE AND ALL THAT? BECAUSE THAT'S THEM. >> WHY do they get to do this? And why do we not? >> You You ain't going to help me today, HUH? >> HOW HOW COME THEY GET TO live any old way that they WANT TO? MINUTE. HOW COME THEY GET TO do this and they GET TO DO GOD SAID, "PUT THE MEASURING tape up >> and get the plum line out. I'M NOT WANTING YOU." COME ON, SOMEBODY. DON'T YOU MEASURE US AGAINST SOMEBODY ELSE AND DON'T YOU MEASURE SOMEBODY ELSE AGAINST US. WE JUST GOT TO BE FAITHFUL TO WHAT GOD'S CALLED US TO DO. WE JUST NEED TO BE FAITHFUL TO WHAT GOD'S CALLED US TO DO. IT MIGHT SEEM SMALL. IT MIGHT SEEM INSIGNIFICANT, BUT IF I'M IN THE WILL OF GOD, >> come on, musicians, get ready. I'm preaching fast. I'm preaching faster than the fireworks right now. My Lord, we might have fireworks over this small sermon. What? But here's what we do as as Americans. We want the big stuff. Want it bigger, better, right? But God doesn't work in the mega things. He works in the small things. Now, don't you walk out of here and say this. Now, here's what I here's a dangerous thing that some people do. Having a small We're not having a small mentality. >> We're not going to have a small mentality. Well, I'll just do the bare the bare minimum. That's not it. What God is wanting us to do is to give our all to what he's called us to do. >> That's right. >> Well, if I can uh how can I just say this the right way in in the right spirit? I don't have to live that way because I'm not in the choir. >> You see, you you got the you got the tape measure. God's looking for the plum line. Is it straight? Is it aligned? Is it balanced? >> Well, if they get to do that, then what? Because you're not them, >> right? Why Why do I have to I I don't want to be that involved. What will I have to give up? You see, you got the tape measure in your hand. God's Let me tell you something. It's a dangerous thing to have God's plumb line on your life and not the tape measure of somebody else's standard. I want to be aligned. I want to be level. I want to be I text my thought to I got a friend of mine. I text my my sermon thoughts to what do you think about this? I text Evan Grizzle. We were talking back and forth this morning. He said his dad would use plum lines when they would cut, grade, or dig water lines. He said it's a string with a weight on the bottom of it. That's what I made here. But this is what he said. Here's the kicker. The weight ensures it's pointing toward the foundation. Where is your life in relation to the foundation? WE'VE BEEN BUILT ON THE APOSTLES AND THE PROPHETS AND JESUS CHRIST BEING THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE. MY FOUNDATION IS NOT THE WORLD AND MY LEVEL AND MY ALIGNMENT IS not this WORLD OR SOMEBODY ELSE. I WANT TO KNOW IF I'M aligned with the Lord. Would you stand to your feet today? Brother Nate, what are you talking about this morning? The plum line, the small things. What about me? What about me? Where am I at? Don't despise small things in your life. Moms and dads, parents, keep preaching, teaching, and praying with your children. Those small moments at the dinner table, those bedtime prayers, those consistent examples of faith and holiness are not small to God and they are not small to your children. He sees the plum line in your hand. Sunday school teachers, we didn't have Sunday school today. A lot of people traveling and holidays. Sunday school teachers, keep preaching to those little ones. You may you may feel like you're telling stories to a handful of children, but you're shaping eternity. God sees the plum line in your hands. How about our teachers? Keep investing in the hearts and minds of those entrusted to you. Whether in the classroom, Bible studies, or everyday conversation, your patient instruction and godly example are building something eternal. God sees the plum line in your hand. How about our leaders? Keep leading with humility and integrity in your ministry and your responsibilities and roles, in the workplace, in your home, wherever the small faithful decisions you make behind the scenes matter deeply to God. He sees the plum line in your hand. How about our widows? Keep giving what you can for the work of the kingdom. Your small offering given in faith and love is noticed by the same Lord who watched the widow's might. The widow's might. God sees the plum line in your hand. Where are my young people at? Where are my young people at today? Don't wait until you're older or till you're bigger to serve the Lord. Keep seeking him now. I seen you shouting Sunday or uh this week at camp meeting at Strong Tower. You better do it around here. But more importantly than that, you better walk. God does not measure the shout. He measures your walk. Yes. >> Keep seeking him, standing for righteousness, using your gifts. Right now, God sees the plum line in your hand. How about our senior saints, our summit seniors? Keep sharing your wisdom, testifying of God's faithfulness, praying for the next generation, staying faithful in your walk to the Lord. YOUR YEARS OF QUIET service and steadfast example are a treasured legacy to First Apostolic Church. God sees a plum line in your hand. How about our prayer warriors? Keep kneeling in your closets and lifting up this church in prayer. Your families and the lost. Those unseen hours of intercession are powerful and needed in this day. God sees the plum line in your hand. How about our elders who pray for the sick, anointing with oil, believing God for miracles, praying with those in the hospitals, and visiting those who CAN'T BE HERE. GOD SEES the plum line IN YOUR HAND. EVERY believer in this room, keep witnessing. Keep sharing the gospel with others, one person at a time. You never know when that person will show up and have their life impacted by Jesus. God sees the plum line in your hand. So, LET ME ASK YOU TODAY AS I CLOSE, who's going to despise the small things? Who's going to despise the small things? your small prayer, your small act of kindness, your small sacrifice, your small offering, your small witness, your daily faithfulness. It is not small to Jesus because it's not by might, it's not by power, it's by his spirit. All things are made possible through him. What God is looking for is faithfulness. What God is looking for is somebody will say, "Lord, it's not by my might. It's not by my power. It's not my ability that you're looking for, but God, it's my obedience and faith in what you want to do. Would you lift up your hands across the sanctuary today? Come on. Would you lift up your voice? I wonder if somebody would leave the confines of their seat and say, "You know what? I'm putting down the tape measure and I'm going to get the plum line in my hand and I'm not going to measure myself against somebody else. I'm not going to measure my life against somebody else. But Lord, I'm going to be faithful to what you called me to be faithful to. That's the plum line. Lord, I want the weight to hit the foundation. I want the I want the level to hit the foundation. Lord, I want to be aligned to your will and align to your work and align to your call. I want to be aligned to you, oh God. Lord, it's not by might. It's not by power, but it's by your spirit. And what you've called me to do, God, what you've anointed me to do, oh God, can be accomplished through small acts of obedience and faith. >> Come on, would you lift up your hands? >> Oh yes. >> In the mighty name. >> In the mighty name of Jesus. >> In the mighty name of Jesus. >> In the mighty name of Jesus. >> I pray. I know >> all the power of fear and darkness must go. >> Oh yes to every victory. >> Oh my god. >> In the mighty name of Jesus. >> I will not fear. >> Oh yes. >> I'm not going to be afraid. I'm not going to be intimidated. >> Come on. I'm not going to let fear grip my heart. >> Come on. I want to obey. >> I want to follow after him. >> I will not fear. >> Oh yes. >> There's an army of angels here on all by the blood of Jesus Christ. I will not fear. I will not fear. Oh yes. When the enemy comes here on the door of my life is the blood of Jesus Christ. >> I will not fear. I will not fear. >> I'm not going to fear. Angels here. Oh, >> I'm protected. >> I'm protected on all sides >> by the blood of Jesus Christ. The mighty name of Jesus. Oh yes. >> God, calling on the power of heaven. >> Everywhere formed against me. >> Would you lift up your hands? Would you lift up your hands all over the sanctuary? I want you to let this be your prayer. I'm not going to let negativity I'm not going to let negativity and criticism most of it self criticism and self negativity where I'm measuring myself against others and measuring what I do and what I don't do against others. But Lord, I pray right now that you would give me strength, God, to put the plum line in my hand, God, to not see all the obstacles in the way and not to see all the things that might hinder me, but God, to be faithful in what you've called me to do. There's always going to be opposition, but God, help me to get out get out of my own way. Help me, God, to let my own criticism get out of the way. That you want to work in me and through me and my family, oh God. Lord, I pray right now that you would remove all that self-criticism and negative talk in my life and in my spirit, God, that you want to do something in me and through me. And I pray, Lord, that you would help me to live my life level and balanced and aligned to your will and to your word in the name of Jesus. Would you say in the name of Jesus? Come on, would you say in the name of Jesus? Now, would you clap your hands unto the Lord tonight, this morning? Oh, yes. Look at somebody and say, "Don't despise the small things." Don't despise the small things. We're going to have church tonight. Revival 6 pm prayer 6:30 evangelistic service tonight. Greet somebody, welcome somebody.
