Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Faith without works is dead: do what you can, and God will do the rest

  • The preacher reads James 2:18-26: a man may say he has faith, but faith is shown by works; as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
  • He announces his subject as a statement of faith: if we do what we can, then God will do the rest. God does not expect anything beyond our ability, but he does expect exactly what we are capable of doing.
  • From Hebrews 11:1 he defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen; if we can see it and fix it ourselves, we do not need faith for it.
  • He aims the message at those who cannot help their situation — the sick and infirm who have no power to change it — rather than at those whose problems only need self-determination and willpower.
  • He retells how Elijah, depressed and fleeing Jezebel, was set down to sleep and then fed by the angel — some things in our bodies only rest will heal.

Scriptures: James 2:18-26; Hebrews 11:1

Lazarus loosed: a miracle must be fed or it dies

  • The congregation's testimonies preach with the preacher: those who have been where he is preaching from help testify that the fact about faith is true.
  • He reads John 11:44: Lazarus came forth bound hand and foot with graveclothes, his face bound with a napkin, and Jesus said, loose him and let him go.
  • In John 12:1, six days before the passover, Lazarus is at the table at supper in Bethany — they loosed Lazarus, and then they fed him.
  • If God has performed a miracle in a life and that miracle is not fed, it will eventually die, even though God did the supernatural part.
  • He insists Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forevermore — still able to open blinded eyes, unstop deaf ears and heal the lame, whatever the visible results on any given night.

Scriptures: John 11:44; John 12:1

Joash's arrows: a half-hearted effort wins a half-hearted victory

  • He reads the Joash arrows account in 2 Kings 13: the dying Elisha has King Joash take bow and arrows, put his hand upon the bow, and shoot out the eastward window — the arrow of the Lord's deliverance from Syria.
  • Elisha then tells the king to take the arrows and smite upon the ground; Joash smites three times and stops.
  • The man of God is angry: he should have smitten five or six times, and Syria would have been consumed; instead Syria will be smitten only three times.
  • God gave Joash the ability to determine his own measure of victory — a half-hearted effort in what we can do results in a half-hearted victory.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 13:14-19

The widow's handful: give God the little bit you have

  • He reads the widow's story in 1 Kings 17: at Zarephath she is gathering sticks to dress her last handful of meal and little oil for herself and her son, that they may eat it and die.
  • Elijah asks her to make him a little cake first, with the word of the Lord that the barrel of meal would not waste and the cruse of oil would not fail until the Lord sent rain upon the earth.
  • She had a choice between faith and her natural desire; she gave the little she had, and she and her house ate many days, the meal and the oil lasting meal by meal.
  • The preacher works the story as an object lesson: though our ability in praise and worship is small — even just lifting our hands — if that is all we can do, it is enough, and that is when God steps in.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 17:10-16

Naaman and the law of the leper: do not miss the message for the method

  • He reads 2 Kings 5:1: Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man and honorable, a mighty man in valor, but he was a leper.
  • In 2 Kings 5:9-11 Naaman comes with his horses and chariot to Elisha's door and is told by the messenger to wash in Jordan seven times; he is angry that the prophet did not come out, call on the name of the Lord and strike his hand over the place.
  • Elisha was not inventing the method: the preacher reads Leviticus 14:1-7, the law of the leper — the priest goes out of the camp, and the living bird and the cedar wood, scarlet and hyssop are dipped in the blood of the killed bird over running water and sprinkled on the leper seven times.
  • He draws the pattern tight: a bird for a bird means a man for a man — one would be baptized in that same Jordan river whose stripes would cover the leper; Jesus was baptized in the same Jordan, and by his stripes we are healed.
  • We get caught up in the method — the clapping of hands, the lifting of hands, the leaping — and forget the power of the message; when we anoint with oil we are reenacting the scriptures, not wielding our own power.
  • He testifies of preaching with his wife Flannery in Trinity, Alabama, where a small woman eaten up with cancer, who had lost her fingernails and toenails to the treatments, gave God the little dance she had and bent her knee for the first time as God gave her strength in it.
  • He closes with an altar call: the blind men by the wayside did what they could — they heard Jesus was coming by and cried out — so everyone with a sickness in their body should give God all they have got, and let God do the rest.

more just timely message than we heard this morning from pastor erickson just don't quit how many tell me was encouraged by that to today i i i stood there and and just encouraged and what i love about pastor erickson's message this morning it was for everyone it was the first pers it was for the person who was struggling but it was also for the person who has been this thing all their life just don't quit i love it just don't quit and i give pastor erickson and sister erickson honor then i also give pastor hammond and lauren honor tonight i give them tremendous honor she's not in here so i can pick on her but i love them i believe only eternity uh will revere reveal the the ministry of brother and sister hammond and you could tell how much pastor hammond cares for for your youth because if he's having a down day and i can tell he's a little bit quiet and i can tell he's not as talkative self as as he normally is i'll just say zach what's going on and he'll then he'll tell me he said well it's just so and so at the school is just not making the right decisions and i think that is what a a true youth pastor is that he cares that much for his youth and i give pastor zach cam an honor tonight hallelujah i know he he preached a tremendous word and several today and they were richly blessed by his ministry give them tremendous honor and i love i love being on i love being on the pastoral team because when they do good as as this morning and this afternoon when they preach good and they're anointed then you know i preach good because i'm on the team and then it goes the opposite if i preach bad they preach bad so it all goes hand in hand and and i love them so much and it's it's an honor for me and my wife my precious wife to be on the team here at first apostolic church i give her honor and me and flannery we're happy to have our cousin with us here tonight sister abby spidel would you give her a big hand she is a mighty worker in the kingdom of god and we give her honor she has come to spend a couple days with us uh this week and we give her honor have a lot of fun with our i guess it's my cousin too so i give her i give her honor if you would turn with me into the book of james chapter 2 james chapter 2 and verse 18. i give you great people honor the the greatest church in all the world um i am privileged to be behind the pulpit to preach to you to you all tonight i i know this this pulpit that i am standing on uh standing behind a lot of preachers uh just are would would give anything to stand behind this desk and preach to the greatest group of people in all the world someone said it was a friend of mine who was an evangelist he's he is also 24. he called me the other day and he said nolan i want to tell you something i said all right he said i want to let you know that i'm not jealous of of you all right brother i said tell me tell me why that is i don't have much to be jealous about or be jealous for us but what what's that about he said well he said i preached my first message to five people so that's awesome he said and you had to preach your first message to 500 people he said i can't imagine preaching to not only that many people but preaching to the early in your ministry uh at that many people and and the congregation here is just um i counted an honor and a privilege to be a part uh to to build the kingdom of god here in maryville tennessee james 2 and 18 says yea a man may say thou hast faith and i have works show me thy faith without thy works and i will show thee my faith by my works thou believeth that there is one god and thou doest well the devils also believe and tremble but will thou o vain man wilt thou know o vain man that faith without works is dead skip down to verse number 26 i like the the picture that this paints for us tonight about faith and works verse number 26 for as the body without the spirit is dead so faith without works is dead also what is faith i like how the bible plainly tells us what faith is in hebrews 11 and 1. hebrews 11 and 1 states you might not even have to turn there you can quote it now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen so faith is something it's the substance of something we hope for but it's the evidence of something that we don't see tonight my reasoning for preaching is quite it's quite simple i haven't come to hype anyone up i haven't come to tell anybody if you would come and slap the platform five times you would get your healing i haven't come to do any of that but i have come with a burden from the lord to preach faith to you great people and i want to preach on a statement of faith that god gave me if we do what we can then god will do the rest if we do what we simply can do then god will do the rest god doesn't expect us to do anything that is outside of our ability anything beyond our control anything beyond our ability god doesn't expect us to do but god does expect us to do exactly what we are capable of doing and then when our problem supersedes our ability that's when god steps in and he says the person has done all that they can do and i will do the rest if you put your bibles down you lift your hearts you lift your hands and you lift your voice i would ask god that we would give us a gift of faith in this place lord god we believe that you are going to do something mighty in this house lord i pray through the preached word of god tonight you would change someone's life god i pray tonight with the gift of faith being in this room god would you pour out your spirit to do the impossible that is the things that are not seen lord that we believe that we must have faith for in hope o god that even though it's not seen lord it can still come to pass god we believe with the gift of faith being in this place that you can do absolutely anything as long as we do what's in our ability and then god you'll do the rest we thank you lord can we clap our hands in this place jesus we love you tonight we love you tonight in jesus name everyone said amen amen you may be seated it's good to see every guest in the house of the lord tonight if this is your first time here to first apostolic church you got to make me a promise that you can that you will come back all right my father is the greatest preacher in all the world and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not come back and hear the man of god for this church i want to preach tonight to someone who is sick in their body i want to preach to someone tonight who you have to have god intervene in order to change if it wasn't for god you would stay in the same state that you have been in for quite some time there are things that we can heal with our own power there are things that god has given us the ability to do to heal some things in our life we see that elijah was depressed and on the verge of suicide because he was getting chased by queen jezebel and what did god give him set him down and a great sleep came over him he woke up and the angel of the lord had some food for him there and that there's a message in itself don't underestimate the power of a good nap that's that's the word of the lord but really that's funny but there's a lot of truth to that there's some things that only rest will heal in our bodies there's a lot of things it's not god's will that we're stressed out it's not god's will that we are just we can't handle what's going on it's in our ability to just take a take a nap i think sunday naps unless you go to sevierville i think they're of the lord so you know i just don't don't underestimate the power of a good nap there are some things that god has given us god has given us the ability to do that will heal things in our lives and i'm not preaching to to to someone that has things in their life that you have the power to heal you need you need self-determination you need willpower that's what you need but i want to preach to someone that you can't do anything about what's going on in your life you can't help the fact that you have a sickness in your body you can't help the fact that you have an infirmity you can't help the fact that through years and years cancer has come into your body there's nothing that you can do about it but god says if you do what you can then watch me do the rest this is not something that i want to preach to someone that you have the power and i want to drive this point home before we start i'm not preaching to someone who who has the ability to fix your own issues you don't need faith for that you don't need faith for that because it's the evidence of things not seen if you can see it you can fix it but if you didn't have the power if you don't if you don't have the power to fix it then you need faith if you don't need anything from god you don't find yourself in the category of needing something for god or just having a problem that you can fix on your own you're somewhere in the middle you've had god in your life you've had god become a healer you had god you've been delivered from things and you're just living the good old life with a good old-fashioned testimony well i need your help tonight there were times that jesus would perform miracles and he would tell the person go spread the good news go tell the things which you have seen and tell the things that you have heard go tell everyone you know that a man named jesus and i'm paraphrasing a little bit but go tell everybody what i did in your life go tell everyone it's the testimony it's the testimony of what god has done in your life they went and told everyone it's important that we would preach with the preacher about faith because we're telling everyone else around us that i have been where the man of god is is preaching tonight and the fact about faith is true i think i have a little bit of bible for that lazarus was dead and of course we know the story jesus shows up on the scene and jesus calls lazarus he says come forth lazarus come forth out of the tomb come forth and when lazarus has come forth it paints us a picture it says that he was bound with grave clothes he was bound with grave clothes as he come walks out of the grave and it says that he had a napkin on his face and jesus said there's something i want you to do to to lazarus in john 11 and 44 and he that was came forth bound hand and foot with a grave clothes and his face was bound about with a napkin jesus said unto them loose him and let him go we see that the first thing that happened to lazarus is that he was loosed from his grave clothes that is us been powerful but what i want us to see is found in chapter number 12 just a few verses later chapter 12 verse number one it says then jesus six days before the passover came to bethany where lazarus whit was which had been dead whom he raised from the dead there they made him a supper and martha served but lazarus was one of them that set at the table with him they loosed lazarus and they fed lazarus he just experienced possibly what pastor erickson said today possibly one of the greatest miracles that we would ever read beside the resurrection of jesus christ this is for telling maybe that jesus had resurrection power that he could call lazarus to come forth in my opinion it's better than when jesus opened up the blinded eyes it's it's better than when the woman who had the infirmity the issue of blood it's better than that miracle because this man was dead this man was dead he was gone there was no hope he didn't have a pulse he didn't have a heartbeat he was gone and jesus spoke to him coming forth but he said loose him let him go and then a couple days from now lazarus was human just like us so they had to feed him if god has ever done anything in our lives if god has ever physically or emotionally or mentally ever performed a miracle in your life if we do not feed our miracles they will eventually die even though even though god has done the supernatural if we don't keep feeding that miracle eventually it's gonna die even though jesus brought lazarus from the grave they still had to feed him how you feed your miracle it's tonight when i'm preaching about the power of jesus christ you got to help me testify about his power when i say that god is still in the miracle working business if god has ever done anything in your life i wish you'd help me tonight testify the power and the glory of jesus christ because jesus is still a healer jesus is still a way maker you can stand there tonight and you say oh you don't know like i know what he's done for me he healed my body he healed my mind he gave me just in time i need your help tonight because we can look all around and we can look at each person's life and say if he did it for you he can do it for you if he can heal her he can heal you ma'am we elevate our faith tonight with the miracles that jesus has already done so i need your help to proclaim that he is still doing miracles he is still doing the impossible i don't care how many funerals i go to the scripture is still true he is the same yesterday today and forevermore and i know sometimes i've been there i've heard preachers tell stories about how they've seen tumors fall off i've seen i've heard stories of how men of god would be preaching and limbs would grow back and that just blows our mind and i know what i'm flesh just like everybody else i know what the first thought is that comes to our mind yeah right got any pictures of that got any video evidence i don't i just don't believe but if we would ever have that thought that that can happen we are saying the scripture that jesus is the same yesterday today and forevermore is not true and if that is not true the whole bible is not true because i stand flat footed before you great people tonight proclaiming that jesus christ is the same yesterday today and forevermore he is still the god that can open the blinded eyes i don't care how many how many blind people walk out of here not changed i still believe that jesus can open the blinded eyes i don't care how many deaf people walk out of those doors i still believe that jesus can unstop the deaf ears i don't care how many people don't get up from their wheelchair tonight i believe that jesus christ can heal the lame can heal those in jesus name you may be seated our opening text talks about faith and works if there was not works with your faith you would be a body without a spirit you would look the part you would look like a person but there would be no life in you because there is no spirit in you i like how it plays and portrays this picture in our mind that without works with your faith it's like a body that is without the spirit it would be like looking at a person they look like us they they they have the resemblance of us their face is shaped the same way they're our height they look like a person but there is no life in them the same thing is with faith if you have faith there will be some sort of works attached to your faith it's like a tree this is the the probably the most basic that i i could understand it and put it but it would be like a tree if we looked at a tree we know it's alive because it's bearing fruit we can see that an apple tree has apples on it now we know that tree is alive because we see those apples but is the tree alive because of those apples no the fruit we can tell that it's alive because it's bearing fruit but that's not the reason it's alive it's alive because it has a good root system it has it's well watered it's well nourished it's not because of the fruit but the fruit shows us that the tree is alive tonight we are going to preach faith tonight we're going to preach faith in believing that god can do the impossible now it's not all about praise and worship i've seen a lot of faith messages that it's just a bunch of hype and and we think that's a bunch of hype but it's not all about praise and worship but the reason that we have praise and worship is because of our faith it's not just about waving and jumping and running and leaping but that's a byproduct of our faith if you don't have faith you're not going to have any worship but if you have faith and you don't show any worship that's not a true type of faith because faith leads to praise and worship it's the works of faith it's lifting our hands because we know god can do something in our life it's shouting our voice because god's already done something in our life if you need something in your body and you just sit there and you say i have faith well you got to show me a little bit of works with it because by the look of your faith it's a dead faith but when you get to praise and worshiping god oh give me somebody that has the faith to believe that they can be changed and that person will be seen clapping their hands that person will be seen lifting their voice and lifting their hands up to god it's not in our praise and our worship but our praise and our worship is a byproduct of our faith it's the fruit of our faith it's because their faith is made manifest and i pray tonight that somebody's faith would be made manifest because when we do all we can do that's the moment that god steps in what is faith faith is a substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen just as our human eyes would give us the sense of the evidence right in front of us faith is the sense of the evidence of things in the spiritual faith is the things that the evidence the evidence of things not seen if we can see it and we can do it we don't need faith we can do it ourselves god is not going to do something for us that we have the power to do ourselves god is not gonna he said children i've given the power to do it you're gonna do it yourself there's a lot of times we're praying god why don't you do this god why don't you save my son why don't you save my daughter and what god is saying father if you'll get in the prayer room your son will see you and he'll see your faith be made manifest there's a lot of things that we can do on our own and god is saying when you do all you can do that's the moment that i step in that's the moment that when you exceed your ability that's the moment that i step in we don't need faith to to bring something to that we have the power to do but when it's beyond our ability and when it's on our natural ability we have to do all we can and that's when god steps in god is not going to do something that we can do for ourselves but faith steps in when we can do all when we can't see it we hope for it but we can't see it we dream about it but we can't bring it to pass we wish for it but there's absolutely nothing that we can do that is faith when we don't know how it's going to come to pass when it's not seen what is faith what's faith may manifest well i believe faith is made manifest when someone receives a bad doctor's report what we see is there's no hope the evidence is there that there is no hope what we can see is the fact that this person is sick they received a bad report we see that there is something with no hope but how in the world are we able to stand flat-footed with our shoulders back and say god can heal that person what do you mean god can heal that person healing is something that we're hoping for healing is something that we don't see but we walk in faith to believe that it can be seen that is what we hope for it's the evidence of things not seen so if we can't see it we've got to have faith for it to come to pass i'm not wishing for it i'm not just hoping for it but i stand upon the authority and the word of god we're not just wishing for our healing we're not just hoping for our healing but we are literally standing upon the authority of the word of god when we say by your stripes we are healed we're not just wishing for it we are quoting the words of jesus christ that my stripes are there for you to be healed that is faith that is faith when it doesn't seem right when it doesn't look right when it can't be seen and you've hoped for it and you've wished for it that is the moment that there is faith that can heal you hallelujah if we do what we can that is the moment that god will do the rest second kings 13 and 14. now elisha was falling sick of his sickness it's a sickness where he died it's what caused his death and joash the king of israel came down unto him and wept over his face and said oh my father my father the chariot of israel and the horsemen thereof and elisha said unto him take bow and arrows and he took un unto him bow in arrows and he said to the king of israel put thine hand upon the bow and he put his hand upon the bow upon it and elisha put his hands upon the king's hands and he said open the window eastward and he opened it then elijah said shoot then elijah said shoot and he shot and he said the arrow of the lord's deliverance and the error of deliverance from syria for thou shalt smite the syrians in aphex till you have consumed them so we see in this story and it of course it's in it's in our minds and it has to be in the mind of joash he has already connected the arrows with israel's victory in israel's deliverance that is the picture that elisha has painted in his mind he would say if you would shoot toward the east you'd open the window and you would shoot this bow and arrow this is the deliverance of your kingdom the deliverance of your people and it symbolizes the victory that will come if you shoot this arrow but verse number 18 and he said take the arrows he took them and he said unto the king of israel smite upon the ground and he smote three times and he just stayed smote it three times possibly dropped the arrows we don't know but we do know the man of god was wrath he was angry with him he said thou should have smitten five or six times then thou hast uh hast thou spent in syria till thou hast consumed it whereas now thou shalt smite syria but three times thrice joe ash are you kidding me you have the victory in your hands the man of god has already showed you if you shoot out to the east you open up the window and you let a shot go that symbolizes your victory you know the victory is in the arrow it symbolizes what you can do joash all your life you've been seeing the hand of god work all around you they hid you in a sunday school closet and when it was time they brought you out for you to become king and now the man of god is telling you that the victory is in your hands you have the ability i am giving you the ability to however much deliverance and however much freedom you want from the syrians i'm going to give you the power to do it but he takes the arrows he takes the arrows and beats it three times on the ground this is just a half-hearted effort this symbolizes what he could do what he had the power to do it symbolizes what god gave him the ability he said joash you hold it in your hands however many times how hard and how passionate that's how many times that you will have victory this is symbolic of what he could do god gave him the opportunity to determine his victory and his deliverance but joe the joe ash's half-hearted effort would result in half-hearted victory you can't tell me if god spoke to you tonight and he said sir ma'am all you have to do is do something for me and your miracle is going to come to pass i don't believe there would be one person in this place that would do it half-heartedly i don't believe if god said all you have to do sir ma'am you just got to praise and worship me just a little bit and however hard or however long or however much you do this that's how much of a miracle you are going to get because just a half-hearted praise and half-hearted worship will just result in god doing something halfway because god said you hold it in your hands if you want to beat that arrow until it's broken that's how much victory i'm going to give you tonight if god spoke to someone here tonight and it would be a symbolic thing that you can do for god i believe someone would be running the aisles i believe someone would be leaping i believe somebody would be lifting your voice i believe somebody would be praising you would be dancing if god spoke to you and said sir all you have to do is get into the land of praise and worship and i'll do the rest there wouldn't be any half-hearted stuff but somebody who needed something from god would make their faith manifested in this place they would show their faith it's not about praise and worship but the faith leads to praise and worship you would be lifting your hands you would be lifting your voice if you knew that however much praise you could give to god that's what he would give to you in return you may be seated god doesn't expect us god just expects us to do what we simply can do god is not asking any more of what we can do he's not asking us to perform miracles he's just asking us to trust him to do the miracles but god is not going to do something for us unless we can do what only we can do what about the woman who had just a handful of meal and a little bit of oil in the cruise now my last object lesson that i did before you didn't turn out so well so let's hope this one goes a little bit better we see the story in the bible about in first kings 17 and 10. it's a powerful story we see i'll just read it for you so he arose and went to zarephath and when he came to the gate of the city behold the widow woman was there gathering of sticks and he called to her and said fetch me i pray thee a little water and a vessel that i may drink and she as she was going to fetch it he called to her and said bring me i pray thee a morsel of bread and thine hand and he said as the lord thy god liveth i have not a cake this is her words i have not a cake but just a little bit of handful of mill in a barrel in a little oil in a cruise and behold i'm gathering two sticks that i may go in and dress it for me and my son that we may eat it and we are going to die just a sad story we read and elijah said unto her fear not said fear not go and does as thou has said but make me thereof a little cake first and bring it unto me and after make for thee and thy son for thus saith the lord god of israel the bearer of mill shall not waste neither shall the cruse of oil fail until the day that the lord sendeth rain upon the earth notice when god sends rain upon the earth then she could do something about it she could go to work she could go do work in the field she can go do work because that's god has given us the ability there it's something she had the power to do on her own god said when you have the power to do it on your own that's when i'm going to stop the oil i think that's pretty powerful and he went and did according to the saying of elijah and she and he in her house did eat many days and the barrel of meal wasted not neither did the cruise of oil fail according to the word of the lord which he spake by elijah elijah kind of seems like a a jerk here because the woman has just given him the saddest story the status story we have ever heard does anybody know of anyone that has said i'm just going to make this last little meal i've never heard of that and elijah says ma'am why you're going to do that make me something first dude what kind of man of god who are you licensed with i'm going to take you to your district superintendent press charges on you that's rude but he was giving her an opportunity to see if he would give something to her because even though it was small god still wanted to see if she would give it up because if we do all we can do that's when god does the rest and so i could see that woman just contemplating out her mind walking maybe walking back and forth in her kitchen there and it says this little bit of oil i have this little handful of mill i have but he wants me to make him something first and then afterwards i only have a little bit so his logic doesn't even make sense because if i make him something there's nothing else for me and my son at least we're going to have our last meal and die but now he's asking for our last bill before that to be our last meal so it doesn't doesn't really make sense she had a choice she looked at her life and she said do i have faith and just maybe the small chance that it comes to pass or do i just go with my naturally my natural fleshly desire and what seems comfortable and what seems right and make for me and my son and die so she began to pour that oil out and i could do this because mom's not here so she began to pour that oil out the last little last little drop is all she had it's going to come i promise that last little bit was all she had the next day she comes and wants to take the man of god at his word to see if he was really telling the truth so we she gathered the little bit of oil that she had to make another cake even though it ran out before she began to see if see if god's word would work see if that cruise of oil wouldn't fail so as she began to pour out the little bit of oil she had left simply almost run out to the last little last little drop the next day she came back after seeing it run out the the time before and seeing if the word of god would still ring true and seeing if there was a little bit of oil even though she just watched it run out last time then she got that little bit of oil she had she got that little bit that she had there and she see if god's word would still ring true and though it ran out to the very last very last drop she put it away and the next day she came back and eating the meal before she came back the next day and said i wonder if that little bit of oil still has still has anything in it she said i might as well put god's word to the test because he did say that the crews of oil would not fail so i want to see if it will come to pass again began to pour out that little bit of oil the next day they enjoyed the dinner they enjoyed they went about their day they went about their day the next day she comes back and it's time to eat again i'm going to make a little bit of i'm going to make some more whatever oil what are you making it with i don't know if you just bread and oil i don't know that's disgusting it's the most pointless meal at like italian restaurants they bring you oil with some dirt in the middle of it and they give you bread i don't i don't understand that my mom died and hat's so good i'm like that tastes like dirt like what go dip dirt in the backyard and you'll five star okay so the next day the woman comes to that little bit of oil she begins to see see if it would work again she begins to pour it out to that last that last little there's nothing else in there it's just enough for that meal she puts it on the counter goes about her day and comes back and that same little bit of oil that ran ran out the last time just enough for the next meal then the next day it went on i hope you get where i'm going with this hope you get where i'm going the next day she went and trusted god and it was just enough then the next day she trusted god because she gave god just a little bit and that was all she had so she said god i'm going to give you all i got and you're going to bless me with more even though i gave you just a little bit god you're going to bless me with more god i'm going to give you all i have it's all the ability it's all i got god but when i give you all i have you begin to pour it out when i give you all i have all my praise all my worship on my sacrifice god when it be when it reaches my ability that's when you step in and i want to tell someone tonight even though your ability and praise and worship is small even though you can only lift your hands to god even though you can't move your feet like you like you used to i want to tell someone tonight if that's all you can do that is enough that is enough because when we do all and we exhaust all that's when god steps in when we can do all we can only do all we can do and that's when god steps in you may be seated god is not asking us to do anything outside of our our ability but god is just asking you do all you can and when it's all you can and i've seen it happen when it's all you've got that's when god steps in pastor erickson mentioned a story in the bible this morning and i had it on my notes to to preach tonight and i do believe that was god confirming what he wants to do tonight pastor erickson mentioned naaman this morning naaman had a disease in his body that would expel him from society it would expel him from normal life because no leper could not be in a place like this a leper his he belonged to the outside of the city because it was contagious if you touch leprosy if you were around leprosy it was a chance that you could you could catch leprosy but there was something that he can do second kings five and one now naaman captain the host of the king of syria was a great man with his master and honorable because by him the lord had given deliverance unto syria he was also a mighty man and valor but he was a leper verse number nine now naaman came with his horses and with his chariot and stood at the door of the house of elisha and elijah says elisha sent out a messenger unto him saying go washing jordan seven times and i flesh y'all come again to thee and thou shalt be clean but naaman was wroth and went away and said behold i thought he would surely come out to me stand and call the name of the lord is god and strike his hand over the place and and recover the leper naaman i know that's sometimes what happens but the man of god said here is what you can do naaman was so caught up in the method that he forgot about his cleansing he forgot he was so caught up with how it would come to pass he forgot who was bringing it to pass he was so caught up he would say why would you tell me to go dip in jordan seven times why would you tell me if that's a nasty place that the easy way is just the man of god raising his hands over your life and then you're healed but that's not what god that's not what the man of god said to do elijah was not just i found this in scripture i think this is pretty neat elijah elisha is not sitting there standing there just making something up he's not just saying ah sounds good to me if you go washington seven times and in jordan that you'll be cleansed elisha wasn't making that up he got that from leviticus 14 1 and the lord spake unto moses saying this shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing he shall be brought unto the priest and the priest shall go forth out of the camp and the priest shall look and behold if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean and cedarwood and scarlet and hyssop and the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel pay attention that earthen vessel over running water as for the living bird he shall take it and the cedar wood and the scarlet and the hyssop and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water sounds like an a partridge in a pear tree that's that's fine and he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times and shall pronounce him clean and shall let the living bird loose into the open field look at the things that the story of naaman and the law of cleansing the leper have in common the leper the running water the dipping the seven times and the healing of course the big difference here now i'm pretty sure all of you are thinking of it the difference is it wasn't a bird in the water it was a man in the water if it was a in my mind if it was a bird for a bird has to be a man for a man in my mind that's just how it goes logically if it's a bird that would be killed in the blood he would be dipped in in water and he would be killed his blood would be shed and then you would take the other bird and run it over that same water and the blood would drip over that bird and that would be pronounced cleansed it would have to be a man for a man if naaman was to dip in the jordan river then the other man that would take the leprosy had to be dipped in that same jordan river that logically makes sense in my mind and it would be the blood of that other bird or that other man that would cover the other bird that had the leprosy and i think that happened because jesus christ was baptized in that same jordan river and his blood was shed for our sickness in our diseases by his stripes we are healed so name and elisha was just not telling you to to go and just dip that's that's the brightest idea i can i can think of no he was saying if you obey the word of god and you did seven times in jordan there's going to be one that goes and be baptized in that same jordan river and he's going to have stripes on his back naming for your healing so name it if you can get over the method you have the power of the message and i can relate it to oh my god if i can relate it to us tonight i don't know why god for me god likes for me to lift my hands i don't know why god likes for me to lift my voice but if that's what it takes that's what i'm going to do i'm going to lift my hands to god if it involves oh my god help me lord help me jesus if it involves leaping for joy and that's what it takes for my healing to come i'm going to leave for joy if it takes me running the aisles i don't care i'm desperate for a move i don't care about the method as long as i have the power of the message naaman you're ta god the man of god has told you what this is what you do this is what you have the ability to do god is not asking him to do anything that he can't do all you have to do is to go in jordan go in jordan the river jordan and dip seven times but there comes one after you that's gonna be it's gonna it's it's the power of the law of the leper in leviticus 14. it reenacts scripture tonight we're not wishing and i we're not wishing when someone comes and asks to be anointed with oil we're not just where's this oil business come from we are reenacting the scriptures when it says to call for the elders of the church anoint with oil we are it's not our power it's the power of the word of god we get so caught up with the method we get so caught up and say what what is what's in this this clapping hands business what's in this lifting our hands business what's in this weight this moving our feet what is this we're dancing to david's dance what is that we get so caught up in that but we forget the power that that brings because we when we praise it inhabits god inhabits the praises of his people so when we do that we get god in our midst when we begin to worship god god shows up where we worship so tonight if you need something in your body and just hear me tonight if you would begin to worship and you would begin to praise god with your faith made manifest i know it might seem crazy i know it might seem ridiculous but if you're desperate that's all that you can do you just lift your hands and you lift your voice up to god that's all you can do god's not asking for anything outside of your ability he's just asking to give it all you got he's asking for you to give it all you got and when you reach that moment when you reach that moment that's when god that's when god steps in you may be seated that's when god steps in i don't know why god likes for me to do all that but if you get caught up in that you miss what when you do all you can you if you get caught up in that you miss what god's ability to do because you've done all you can do but when you reach that moment that's when god steps in we were me and my wife were preaching in alabama a few weeks ago it was a great church in in trinity alabama and uh just imagine that that was a good one this church in trinity alabama and we were preaching it was awesome because it was the first sunday night that they had it was the first sunday night that they had since coven and the people were just so excited it was just an awesome time and you could have said boo and everybody would have shouted and started you know going wild and it was awesome it was a it was cool because they were so excited they were expecting god to move and then i'm preaching like oh lord so i began to preach just something similar to what we're preaching here tonight and i called for the for the altar and i called for you know if if god would do something in your life if you would give him something tonight you would come around the altar and you'd give it the best of your ability that's when god is going to step in a little woman was sitting in the back she could not have been 80 pounds soaking wet she could not have been a total of 80 pounds more than 80 pounds and as she come up she just kind of we she had her mask on she kind of made her way around the back and was over next to the left side of the pulpit she had her mask on and it didn't really feel comfortable because i didn't know what what she would prefer and so she just began she began to give god just this little bit of dance right here she began to move her feet song was going of course you had the young people there was one guy jump the pew i've never seen that until that evening it was awesome it was awesome that little woman was just lifting just lifting her feet putting him up and down picking up her feet put him up and down you could tell it was so sincere the pastor's wife told me and flannery she said that woman is ate up with cancer that woman is ate up and just la the night before we were there she said because of her chemo she lost all of her fingernails all of her toenails all of them just fell off because her can't hear chemo was so was so um her chemo was so strong and so many treatments and we were just praising and worshiping god that woman's over there giving it all she had for god she was saying god i'm giving it the best of my ability sure i could have maybe ran the aisles 50 years ago but god this is all i got god this is all i got lord and in a moment in a moment in that service you heard the loudest scream i have ever heard in my life i looked over her she said i bit my knee i said i looked at flanner i said did she say she hit her knee and the pastor's wife everybody goes eight not wild everybody's jumping up and down i mean it's it's mass chaos look the pastor's wife said why are we rejoicing this sweet lady hit her knee over here said no because of the cancer it has stiffened her legs up that's about all she could do right there but you know what god was looking down and seeing a woman that was doing all she could all she could she was picking up those legs and she said i have bent my knee for the first time god had gave her strength in her knee because she was giving it all she had even though is a little bit of this god was looking down and saying that's all she can do for me that's all she could do she was giving it all the praise and worship she had she was saying god my faith tonight to see the impossible and a lot of times a lot of us we expect god to move when we're doing something like this hey god just come raise your hand over me i'm back here in my pew i'm comfortable but that's not what god wants god wants somebody to give it all they got tonight they want somebody to give it all they had tonight if you have something in your body i wish we would just give it all we have if it will be lifting your voice if it will be jumping up and down tonight you've got to give it all you've got because that's the moment that god steps in that's the moment i feel the gift of the holy ghost to this place i feel the holy ghost in this house it was the blind men that were sitting by the wayside they were blind they could not see but they did what they could do they heard that jesus was crow was coming by and they began to scream jesus now son of david have mercy on us you know what they were doing all they could do all they could do was hear that jesus was coming and they began to lift their voice it's not it's not rocket science it's the gift of faith and giving it all you got given it all you got given it all you got hallelujah i feel it right now come on pray with me right now i feel the gift of faith operating in this house if you have a sickness in your body i'm not asking for anything difficult i'm not asking you to run the aisles or jump off the stage but just for god's sake give it all you've got tonight for god's sake giving all your cats tonight are y'all no no you're tired oh my god i feel it in the room tonight come on if you have a sickness in your body come on the altars are open for some point just give it all you got elderly person if all you got is this right here come and give it to god come and give it to god come on that's you come on i feel to get the faith in this house come on sister salt this is for you tonight sister salts give it all you got hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah sister eric should come place of the night come on if you have a sickness in your body just give it all you got mama give it all your god daddy god's not asking for anything difficult he's just asking for what you can do jesus asking for what you can do tonight come on that's it jimmy and arthur give it all your god give it all you got mama and daddy hallelujah come on nick i'm not trying to hype anybody up but just give it all you got just give it all your god and get lit let god do the rest hallelujah because what would you do if jesus walked into this room and faith is the evidence of things not seen what we can't see is jesus is in this room what would you do if he walked into the room how would you pray if he walked into the room if you knew the deliverer was in this house what would you do how would you pray how would you shout come on if you need a deliverance i want you to lift your voice as loud as you possibly can give it all you got come on we give everything to everything else in this world we're giving all we got to god
