Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The Purpose: Filled With Something From Heaven

  • He opens Acts 2:1-4: when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
  • He announces his three words: obedience, emotions, and the will.
  • In the beginning everything God made was a space he intended to fill; he created places, then filled them, and the last day went from good to very good.
  • First Corinthians 3:16: know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you; our one purpose in life is to be the house of the Holy Ghost, and nothing from the world can fill that God-given void.

Scriptures: Acts 2:1-4; 1 Corinthians 3:16

Belief Must Produce Action

  • Mark 16:16-17: he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned; and these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues. If you do not believe and are baptized, all you have done is take a good bath.
  • Acts 19:1-2: Paul came to Ephesus and asked certain disciples, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed, and they said, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost; they were disciples of John, and Paul commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the Holy Ghost came on them.
  • John 3:5: verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God; it is not optional.
  • Rahab believed, and her belief was proved by action: she had to take the red cord and throw it out the window; belief alone would not have saved her house.

Scriptures: Mark 16:16-17; Acts 19:1-2; John 3:5

Cornelius: Devout Is Not Enough

  • Acts 10:2: Cornelius was a devout man, one that feared God with all his house, gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always; yet if being devout were enough, there would have been no need to call for Peter.
  • Acts 10:6: the angel told him Peter shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
  • Acts 10:39 and 43: Peter preached that they were witnesses of all things which Jesus did, whom they slew and hanged on a tree, and that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
  • At the close of the Cornelius preaching: while Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word, for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God; and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
  • The proper response to the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Scriptures: Acts 10:2; Acts 10:6; Acts 10:39; Acts 10:43; Acts 10:44-48

Faith Without Works Is Dead

  • James 2:26, read together with the congregation: for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
  • Playing on James 2:14-25, he sets out three faiths: an intellectual faith that knows the right words but gives the naked and destitute nothing; a demonic faith, for the demons believe in one God and tremble, with knowledge and emotion but no action; and the faith of Rahab, who believed, felt, and acted, and her whole house was saved.
  • Hebrews 11:7: by faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; belief and emotion did not save him until he did something with them.

Scriptures: James 2:26; James 2:14-25; Hebrews 11:7

Emotions: Cry Out and He Hears

  • Pentecostalism is accused of emotionalism, but receiving the Holy Ghost does involve the emotions; if remembering what God brought you from does not move you, something is wrong.
  • Mark 4:37-39: in the storm on the ship Jesus did not wake because of the storm; he woke when a follower lifted his voice and said, Master, carest thou not that we perish; God is not affected by our storms, but he moves when we cry out to him.
  • Psalm 34:17: the righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles; utterance, as Acts 2:4 uses it, carries a volume level: it means to speak out loud.
  • Psalm 103: bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgiveth all thine iniquities and healeth all thy diseases; looking back over what he has done is how the emotions are engaged in prayer.

Scriptures: Mark 4:37-39; Psalm 34:17; Psalm 103:2-3

The Will, and the Evidence of the Tongue

  • On the day of Pentecost they believed, they were pricked in their hearts, and then the will spoke: men and brethren, what shall we do; belief and emotion must turn into a decision to act.
  • Luke 6:45: out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh; the mouth is a window to the heart, which is why the evidence of the Holy Ghost is heard.
  • Isaiah 28: for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people, to whom he said, this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing, yet they would not hear.
  • Acts 8 shows it when hands were laid on new believers: they received the Holy Ghost, and Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given; the same evidence runs through Acts 2, Acts 10, and Acts 19.
  • Paul's question stands answered: not all speak in tongues for interpretation, but everyone who receives the Holy Ghost speaks in other tongues; and God is a good father who wants to give the gift more than we want to receive it.
  • He closes with an altar call, and three are baptized in the name of Jesus before he dismisses the congregation.

in this house amen and amen remain standing with me we'll go quickly into the word of the Lord such an honor to stand before you great great people out of the many houses of worship that you can choose tonight the fact that you came to First Apostolic church we thank you very much let's give our guests a big round of applause for coming this evening thank God we thank God that you're here and to experience Pentecost with us on this Sunday evening what better scripture to go to than the book of Acts it's a a good good one to go to for Pentecost and you don't have to study real hard to know what your scripture text is going to be if you're preaching about Pentecost tonight we'll go into the word of the Lord Acts 2 and 1. before we read that she is going to be very upset with me she told me not to mention it and I told her I was going to do this and she told me not to she said well I'll be upset and I was like well it's kind of a risk reward thing so uh okay thank you um I want to say uh my wife I'm so proud of her uh this Saturday she is graduating with her master's degree in Christian School administration can we give my wife I know she's gonna I'm gonna have to preach on forgiveness tonight so it's not a quiet night at the carpenter household but I'm so proud of her this Saturday we're going to celebrate her at her graduation and she's doing that for our Christian School to do whatever it takes to make Apostolic Christian Academy successful and I thank God for that acts 2 and 1 says and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one Accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing Mighty Wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them clothed in tongues like as a fire and it sat upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance tonight I want to preach for the help of the Lord for hopefully just a few short moments because I do believe that God is just beginning of what he wants to do in this place but I want to preach on three words I want to preach on obedience emotions and the will obedience emotions and the will you put your Bibles down would you lift your hands but not only lift your hands would you lift your voice up to heaven let's ask God to move in this place tonight and ask us to all be in one mind and one Accord because that's what it took for the spirit of God to move on the day of Pentecost Lord we thank you today we thank you for what God you've already done in this house God we thank you for starting a good work in this place Lord God I believe that Pentecost can take place in this house tonight God I believe that someone can be baptized with the gift of the Holy Ghost in this place with the evidence of speaking in other tongues if you believe that would you clap your hands in this place and lift your voice unto God tonight because he is going to do something in in this house you may be seated in the house of the Lord Pastor mentioned a few things about this on Wednesday night and I want to add to it but this is the only thing that was in the beginning God's word God's word nothing special just God's word no Grand this entrance it was just God's simple word but when God speaks some pretty cool things take place just just God's word so in the beginning we can see in the Garden of Eden we see his plan was perfect God's word spoke and trees appeared and God's work spoke and light appeared and all these things happened just by God's were now we see here in the beginning that everything was perfect in the eyes of God everything was perfect we can look to the Garden of Eden to notice uh the Perfection of God he would judge his creation he would say it was good it was good but then the last day something changed it went from being good to very good and so what's the difference between the first five days and then the end of the sixth day that it goes from being good to very good well verse the first three days God creates places God creates spaces God creates the sky and God would create the sea and God would create the ocean and God would create the land but after three days he is still creating but then God goes to feeling feeling that which he had created to give trees purpose to give the Seas and the oceans purpose because like this bowl here his creation was empty no purpose at all what purpose does that Fishbowl have besides just being a decorative peace then after the third day God goes to feeling feeling that which he had created he takes those trees and says all right you're supposed to be the house of a bird and he takes that ocean that deep vast ocean and fills it with large fish he takes the land and he puts land animals and we know that it correlates with day one and day four and day five with day two and day six would they three but God created a void inside of every single person on the sound of my voice your life because everything that God has ever created he intends to fill with something else from heaven the trees would be purposeless if it wasn't for those birds the land would be purposeless if it wasn't for animals and humans to live on in our lives are just the same the scripture says in First Corinthians 3 16 know ye not that ye are the temple of God that the spirit of God dwelleth in you our purpose in life a lot of people they pay big bucks to find simple purpose but the purpose for every single person on the sound of my voice has to be filled with something else from God so God's word spoke again and he said that it's important that I go away for you it's nevertheless I tell you the truth it's expedient for you that I go away for if I go not away the comforter will not come unto you but if I go I will send him unto you that is our purpose to be the house of the Holy Ghost for our Temple the purpose in our life is to be filled with the Holy Ghost that's the only purpose if that's the only thing you ever do in life you've fulfilled your purpose to be the house of the Holy Ghost this bowl is empty this ball is just really purposeless until God chose to feel that which he creates God created a space then the word of God spoke again and filled that space God created a let's act like this is a big body of water this is for my kids quest kids this is what you get for asking a Kids Quest preacher to preach to big kids so here you go but God creates a space it's as simple as that God creates a void and every single person's life a god-given void but then something else from Heaven has to fill that empty space God said God said it's important for you that I go because if I go then I'll send a comforter to you and not many days after that there were a bunch of empty people in the house of the Lord being obedient to God waiting on the promise of the father and human purpose was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when the word of God came true God filled that's what he had come on little buddy you can do it in the name of Jesus there you go come on don't dial me now this is this is your big moment time to shine son can we zoom in on that can we come on oh he's so little let's see come on bud this is your time there we go there we go oh I'm gonna have to have a resurrection service here too it looks like Jesus name good not in the name of Jesus Christ get up and walk right now we're gonna let him revive there that's God's purpose all along is to be filled with something else from Heaven our whole life one purpose to be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost that's our only purpose in life and you say man that that might be uh that's kind of simple that's kind of Elementary this is Revival service at First Apostolic church tonight but I want to tell someone that the thing that is going to fill that god-given void in your life is here tonight so many times you've tried for years to fill things with from the world that has never satisfied that God given void no job would ever fulfill it no drink could ever fulfill it no prescription could ever fulfill it no alcoholic beverage could ever fulfill it why don't you try something from Heaven tonight and be filled with the only thing that will satisfy your soul and that is the gift of the Holy Ghost know you not know ye not that you are the temple to house the Holy Ghost that's your only purpose people spend millions of dollars just to just to find something that fills that void that makes them feel good can I introduce to you the ultimate fulfillment to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost this brings us to our first point I believe God's going to heal this fish in the uh sometime during this sermon and what he does I'm going to run around this building because my this brings us to our first point belief math March 16 and 16 says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned and these signs shall follow them that believe in my name shall they cast out Devils they shall speak with new tongues believing is the First Essential step to Salvation in fact if you don't believe and you are baptized all you have done is you've just taken a good bath the great psalmist said Don't Stop Believing I believe that's in the scripture somewhere or maybe that's a title of a worldly song we don't know but it just fits for the occasion here to not stop Don't Stop Believing but belief alone will not save you belief is so important there was a group of people in Acts that they did not receive the gift of the Holy Holy Ghost and I know why tonight Acts 19 and 1 and it came to pass that while Apollos was at Corinth Paul having passed through the upper Coast came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples he said unto them have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed and they said unto him we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost this totally destroys the false doctrine of the anything goes crowd completely destroys that or if we get close to the formula of Salvation that God would understand this this passage in Acts 19 completely destroys that mindset not import according to Paul because he commanded them to be re-baptized and they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus I know this is so so deep tonight and know this is so deep but the reason they did not receive the gift of the Holy Ghost or had the holy ghost at that moment is because they didn't know anything about the Holy Ghost they were Disciples of John these disciples were religious they were righteous but they had not received the gift of the Holy Ghost because they didn't know about a Holy Ghost and I want to take that excuse or that reason away from everybody tonight there is a holy ghost for you to fill that void in your life it's for you it's for me it's for as many that are afar off God is still pouring out the gift of the Holy Ghost I want to tell you it's for you it's not just something we read in the book of Acts it is for every single per person it is our purpose to be filled with something else from Heaven I want to take away any reason or or excuse for someone not receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost that just doesn't know tonight I believe somebody can go home with the gift of the Holy Ghost that you just learned about it tonight you just learned about it maybe you're saying hey I don't I don't trust you you done killed a goldfish I don't trust what you say well take Jesus's words he is the resurrection John 3 and 5 says verily verily I say unto thee except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God it sounds like it's not optional to me come on you think John's disciples they will religious they lived righteous they could have been set in their old religious ways but when they heard that they were supposed to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost Paul laid his hands upon them and the Holy Ghost Came Upon them and they spake with tongues because belief belief will always produce action the true biblical purpose for belief is to produce action let's ask let's ask Rahab the Harlot if believing only would save her house her life and her if believing only would do the work and do the job Rahab would just have to believe but those spies came into her house and they told of of her of what's to come the belief was there she said hey I know about your God I know about the children of Israel because the Lord your God we do fear for what's going on in the children of Israel she said our hearts melt and we're quite fearful of the Lord your God but beliefs and emotions were not good enough to save rahab's house there had to be some actions with her belief she had to take an old red cord throw it out the window in faith and belief alone will not save you but when you act upon your faith that is what saves your soul I'm so thankful that I know that Jesus Christ is Lord I'm so thankful I know that God came and and he died on a cross for my sins and he rose three days later and he resurrected he ascended up to heaven I'm so thankful I know that but there has got to be some belief with that knowledge there's got to be some belief of me acting upon what I know because believing alone will not save anyone what about a man in Acts 10 names Cornelius acts 10 and 2 a devout man one that feared God with all this house he gave much alms to the people and prayed to God always the Bible says that he was a devout man this means that he was deeply committed to their religious beliefs and practices it also can be described as a sincere and heartfelt attitude of reverence toward God or a particular religious tradition a devout man he feared God he gave alms and he prayed all the time that's pretty good description if my life was talked about in scripture I feel like that would be pretty good for me to say hey Nolan gave his offerings he gave to the poor he but he he prayed all the time every time he saw Nolan he was he was praying but God gave Cornelius a vision of a man named Peter he was to call on Peter acts 10 and 6 says and he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do hear me tonight people hear hear me tonight good saints of God or maybe this is your first time at fac and you wonder what all this worship and all this commotions about can I tell you that being devout is not good enough according to scripture this is not me if you're mad at this take this up with God all right I'm just I'm just quoting you his word tonight if being devout was good enough there would be no need to call Peter if being just a person who is goes along with religious tradition was good enough there would be no need to call Peter and have him tell Cornelius what to do if being committed to religious beliefs was enough there would be no need for Peter to come and tell him what to do if fearing God you think that's the highest thing let's we can fear I'm I'm a person who fears god well Cornelius was a person who feared God but fearing God was not enough to save him there would be no need to call Peter if fearing God was enough to save him if giving offerings to the poor and giving alms to the church was just enough there would be no need to call Peter for his Revelation if praying to God was enough he'd be no need to call Peter he needed Peter because believing was not enough believe it's a great place I don't ever want to knock someone's knowledge of God but if all we do is know God and never act upon God then we've got it all wrong are our beliefs in God in our knowledge of God has to produce some fruit it's got to produce some action but I'm so thankful that salvation is placed within the grasp of anyone who has a fear and a reverence for God Cornelius was a God-fearing man he prayed to God he fasted to hear God's voice and God sent him Peter Peter begins to preach the Cornelius the life the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ he added on to his beliefs he said let me tell you about a man that hung on a tree for your sins and this is what happens he begins to preach in verse 39 and we Are Witnesses of all things which he does both in the land of the Jews and Jerusalem whom they slew and hang on a tree him God raised up the third day and showed him openly verse 43 to give him all the prophets witnesses that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins and if believing was good enough it would stop right there but verse 44 says while Peter spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on them which heard the word and they of the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter because all that all the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify and magnified God then Peter answered can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the gift of the Holy Ghost as well as we and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord then pray day him to Terry certain days if believing was enough Cornelius would have been saved if believing was enough there would be no need for Peter but Peter the rock that had the revelation of Jesus Christ and he had the actions that you must take and add to your belief Peter preached to him that Jesus Christ took all the sins and was hung on a tree for your sins and when they heard this message the good news of Jesus Christ they were filled with the Holy Ghost and were baptized in Jesus name the correct belief in Jesus Christ will lead to a life that is baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost the proper response to hearing the good news that Jesus died and was buried and rose again is to repent of all your sins to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost that's the correct response to the good news that's the correct response to the good news the proper response to hearing what God did for you is to repent of all your sins to ask God to forgive you the proper response to hearing the good news that Jesus died was buried and he rose again the proper response the biblical response not was this church just stands for but what the Bible says the correct response to hearing the good news of Jesus Christ is to walk up those stairs to go down in the name of Jesus Christ to remove every ounce of sin in your life and the Bible says you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost I'm talking about adding some action to our belief it's not good enough to believe because you've got to believe and you've got to be baptized and these signs shall follow them that believe you shall speak in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance that's the proper response does it matter how religious you are it doesn't matter what kind of background you come from this message is for the Catholics this message is for the Presbyterians this message is for every good Christian person in the city of Maryville it doesn't matter where you come from the proper response to the death burial and Resurrection oh my God I'm fired up the proper response to the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is for you to lift your hands and to make a decision that you're going to be born again of the water and of the spirit this is not something that we've just made up the creation of this church that we stand upon the authority of the word of God I believe Jesus Is God I believe that God robed in flesh came down and lived an example for me to follow I believe that Jesus did a bunch of sweet things and he could even even he even resurrected this fish and I thank him for it Jesus did a bunch of cool things but Jesus not only came to do Miracles but he came to take my sins and to your sins and hang them on a cross and Jesus was buried in three days he rose again and after that he ascended up into heaven but it's nudged after the Lord in this place it's not just good enough to know it I'm going to act upon it that's the proper response to the good news sir I know you've been battling your mind should I be baptized in Jesus name it's the proper thing to do according to scripture it's a proper thing to do this is not just something that's made up this is not something but but your man got together this is not this is the words of Jesus Christ that he believeth if you believe it just won't stop there but it's going to produce some actions in your life James 2 and 26 for as the body without the spirit is dead can we all say this together so faith without works is dead also the whole thing and I'm in a college class right now and I hope my professor is not watching because we've had some battles this past semester we've had this and I I've tried to be a good student and I won't tell you and I feel like I failed a assignment because I spoke on the Oneness and she reminded me in every way that she knew how to and I let her grade my last assignment and that email tonight is getting sent to her inbox before 11 59 that she's not correct on the Oneness or the Trinity we won't we won't go into that but I just went into that so there's all that it's not gossip if you pray about it and someone hears it's not gossip if you preach about it and someone overhears it's not gossip believeth it's not good enough to just believe so I've had so many battles on this this belief all you have to do is believe and that's not all you have to do it's a part of it if we don't believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins why are we here if we don't believe that Jesus Christ hung on a cross through our sins and three days later he rose from the grave why are we here I'm here because I know that Jesus Christ died for my sins I know my proper response is to go down in Jesus name and the Bible says you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost it doesn't matter your background it doesn't matter your nationality it doesn't matter if you're religious it doesn't matter if you pray if you give offerings it doesn't matter you must be born of the water and the spirit that's the response to the good news that's why he came and that's why he died for a response from every single person here tonight Cornelius he's a man that he prayed always but he still had to be baptized in Jesus name he gave he was a good man he he there's there's people that you may know of that they give to Charities and that's their way they feel good about themselves show them the life of Cornelius that he had to be born of the water and the spirit next we have our emotions Pentecostalism has been talked negatively that we're just a bunch of emotionalism but receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost does involve your emotions belief and emotion will always lead to action belief knowing that there is a God knowing that he died on a cross to your sins and if that don't get you emotional something is wrong if that if if when they start to sing about a jailbreak and you realize that God had a Jailbreak in your life you were a prisoner and a bondage to sin but Jesus Christ broke that chain and you come if that don't get you excited there is something wrong because when I think back over my life and I realize where he brought me from and I realized what there's the emotions because if you can look back and realize what God did for you if you can look back and realize that he picked you up out of that pit of sin if that don't get you excited I don't know one will I don't know what will that he forgave a sinner me I don't know one will that he took me from my bond estate set my feet and I can walk in the church and lift my hands and feel the presence of God I hate to say it but what's going on right now it does involve our emotions and it involves believing that there is a God and acting upon that there is a God but believing you may be seated in emotions is not enough believing having a thought knowing that God died for you is not enough Hebrews 11 7. says by faith Noah being warned of God and the things I've not seen yet he had the knowledge moved with fear he had the emotions but all I come to church I do I feel them I I feel something I feel maybe Goosebumps running down my arms and I just feel something when I step into the presence of God I begin to cry and I I just feel something you're you're almost there you're almost there but if belief and emotions would have saved Noah from the flood it would have stopped right there but he did something with his belief and his emotions he prepared an ark to the saving of his house by the which he condemned the world and became the heir of righteousness which is by faith if beliefs and emotions would have saved him and his family from the flood it didn't save him he had to do something with knowing that a flood was coming he had to do something with being moved by fear faith and emotions turned into actions for Noah some people that have not received the gift of the Holy Ghost I am not all-knowing and don't dare try to act like I'm all knowing in this subject but receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost involves your emotions they will they some people don't want to lift their voice and to cry out to God they don't want to lift their voice and cry out to God but that's what it takes to get God's attention because in Mark 4 and 37 disciples were in a storm on a ship and there was a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full then Jokers were fearful for their lives they know they have Jesus somewhere on the ship and he's nowhere to be found they are fearful waters are coming over it's starting to fill up and they're saying where in the world is Jesus and somebody goes and goes to the hinder part of the ship notice that Jesus did not wake up because of the storm but he woke up when one of his followers began to talk to him when one of his followers began to lift his voice and say master carest thou not that we perish God's God does not wake up because of your storm God's got the the sound machine on the rainstorm and he is fast asleep but the moment that a child of God begins to lift their voice in the midst of the storm Jesus Christ wakes up and calms your I'm talking about emotions I'm talking about lifting your voice and getting God's attention if you're caught in the storms of life at this very moment God's not affected by your storms but God will wake up when you begin to cry out for him God will wake up and move when you begin to speak to him Psalms 34 and 17 the righteous cry and the Lord heareth and delivereth them out of all their troubles but they got to cry out when the Bible says in Acts 2 and 4 they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with tongues other tongues that the spirit gave them utterance utterance literally means to speak out it means to to to speak out actually this word I was reading it today in in the the original Greek text the mean there's a dictionary and it says to speak out and in parentheses it says there is a volume level to this word Dash loud I said good God Almighty there it is right there that's a lot of people's issue when they go to praying for the gift of the Holy Ghost they don't lift their voice but if you want the gift of the Holy Ghost tonight I would encourage you to do what the disciples did to cry out for him because when you begin to cry out for him he'll meet you right where you are if you'd lift your voice in the midst of your storm God will meet you right it's a loud volume it's saying God I need you God I don't care what anybody else thinks around me I need you God loud loud and this is not emotionalism but it sure does involve your emotions loud loud that some people's that's not some people's uh uh personality traits that we've done brother Sister Erickson has done a wonderful job with the colors testing if you know anything about this you can probably tell by the looks of this Pulpit right now I'm as burnt orange as it comes that means I come up here since Lauren made fun of me I it was five minutes till six I was still working on props in the back office she said Lord You're unorganized I said well what a revelation here we are here we are here we are she's not her hair she don't think that's funny okay I know I it's my personality to lift my voice and to yell I I don't care if it's out of God forgive me a referee it don't matter all right that's just my personality and some people's like hey you no I want that referee's attention I'm gonna lift my voice it's the same way with God if you want God's attention and you want the gift of the Holy Ghost you've got to lift your voice loud that's what it sounded like on the day of Pentecost it wasn't just a bunch of us prayers but it was people fervently praying in the upper room it was loud it was loud it was loud maybe your loudness tells God how much you need him maybe you getting out of your comfort zone tells God how much you need him in their lives in their lives emotions emotions the people on the day of Pentecost were touched by their emotions they heard the truth that they Peter lays into them you're the reason that Jesus was on the cross you're the reason all of you guys that you're you're the blame oh my goodness they know the truth Jesus died but then they were pricked in their Hearts there's emotions there's emotions they were pricked in their hearts but it doesn't just stop with belief and emotions it's got to turn into your will their will was men and brethren what shall we do that sounds like a will change to me they believe that Jesus died for their sins and they were emotional about it they lifted their voice fervently and began to pray to God but then the will is what shall I do what shall we do emotions emotions and I've already mentioned this I got a little bit ahead of myself but a good way to get your emotions involved and praying to God to think back what he's done for your life oh God don't matter if you've been in church all your life like I have I could look back over my life and realize where he brought me from realize what he kept me out of that's a reason to praise God maybe you don't have a testimony at all you've got a good testimony that you've stayed in church all your life that's reason to thank you God I thank you for the truth God I thank you that you forgave me of all my sins God I thank you for giving me parents that taught me the truth God I thank you for putting me in a church that preaches Holiness God I thank you today I thank you that's a good way to praise God if you you just got to look back over your life and realize what he did for you and your emotions start to that's what Peter did that's what Peter did when he was preaching to Cornelius he said he hung on a cross he was nailed to a cross Psalms 103 says bless the Lord O my soul and forget on all his benefits who forgiveth all thine iniquities and who heals all diseases finally it's eight o'clock God forgive me but now it's the will the will what are you going to do to act upon your belief and your emotions this is the will this is the action all this we we can't stop at believing we know that we've done really good there all right now we got our emotions and I I know I if I want the Holy Ghost I'm gonna have to lift my voice and cry out to God I cry out he's going to answer me he's going to be right there with me what are you going to do what are you going to do with this knowledge finally the will your will is whatever makes everything work in James chapter 2 and I've kind of been playing on the ideas of verses 14 I believe it's through 25 24 25 first is an intellectual faith that you know the right words to say the scripture goes something like this if a brother or sister be naked or destitute a daily food and all you say to them is depart be warmed uh you be warmed and filled and you don't give them what they need what have you done that's what that face all about you know the right things to say but you haven't acted upon what you know that's the first kind of Faith the second kind of faith that takes a little bit further to demonic Faith which is kind of crazy but it says the demons believe in one God they fear and tremble they tremble they believe in one God and tremble so they have a knowledge of God they have emotions about God but there's no actions about that one God and the knowledge they have and I hope this makes sense to you but then it mentions Rahab she believed she believed she had emotions she acted upon those emotions and that belief that the walls of Jericho would come tumbling down and because she is willing to act upon her knowledge and her emotions her whole her whole house was saved Noah not only knew the flood was coming obeyed God had a knowledge had emotions attached to it he's moved by fear his whole whole family was saved because he put actions with his belief and his knowledge when he began to build that Ark on the day of Pentecost their belief that Jesus was crucified they were the very reason that he was hungry on the cross led to their emotions and then it led to their will asking then Brethren what shall we do then Peter said unto them this is the action to the belief in Jesus Christ and this is the actions to your emotions if you feel God in this place we don't just have a big choir up there singing and the presence of God to move just so we can feel good but those emotions lead us to the actions at the altar and I feel God moving in this place right now I feel tonight that there is a Cornelius in this house you are a righteous man you are a man that prays to God you fear God you you want to do anything that is pleasing to God you may have been just in this this thing called tradition it's all you've ever known I want to introduce to you the response of the good news and that is to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost God died for us not so we can just believe but he died for us and Rose for us so there would be a response from us he died so you could be baptized and have every sin removed from your life he rose so you could receive the gift of the Holy Ghost every every time someone heard the good news in the book of Acts their response was water baptism and spirit baptism God has given us an Evidence of the Holy Ghost entering someone's heart with the evidence of speaking in other tongues if you would allow me just just three or four minutes tonight let me explain to you how again I don't want to be all knowing but I want to help somebody who's maybe been seeking the Holy Ghost and make you feel better Sister Erickson you can come join me on the piano if that makes you feel better but the Holy Ghost it'll produce an Evidence in your life the reason that there has to be an Evidence is because Luke 6 45 the end of the verse says for the out of abundance of the heart the mouth speaks the mouth is almost a window to the heart because I know for they heard that it's in scripture it's in scripture they knew that someone had received the Holy Ghost how I heard that guy speak in tongues I heard I even saw something come out of his mouth that was the evidence of an inward feeling this mouth gives us a look into what's going on in the heart the Bible sometimes calls the Holy Ghost a refreshing and it sometimes calls the Holy Ghost rest Isaiah 28 and 11 for which stammering lips in another tongue will he speak to his people to whom he said this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they would not here Acts 2 they receive the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues acts 8 then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost and Simon Saul that through the laying on of the Apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given and he offered him some money and this is not this is maybe I need to learn something from Simon with magic tricks but he had to see something what in the world I can lay my hands on somebody nothing happened what happened for Simon to know there is something to this I'm gonna buy this magic trick I'm gonna buy be able to lay on hands what did he see what did he see he saw them speak in other tongues as the spirit gave the there was a there was a visible sign when that Apostle laid hands on him something happened that was Acts 8 acts 10 while Peter spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on them which heard the word and they have the circumcisions which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter because of the Gentiles was part of the gift of the was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost four that's what really right here it all stems on that word form they heard them speak with tongues these Jewish folks thought the Holy Ghost was just for them and God was revealing that the Holy Ghost is for as many people that will come and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and how did they know that they got the Holy Ghost just like those Jews in the upper room how did they know that those people that they laid hands on God the Holy Ghost just like on the day of Pentecost for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God how do I know tonight that someone's receives the gift of the Holy Ghost just like they did in Acts 2 just like they did in Acts 8 just like they did in Acts 10 just like they did in Acts 19. the Reason God chose the tongue is because it is the most unruly member of the body that's the reason he chose that tongue now of course we know that there's a gift of tongue and don't get those confused the gifts of the of tongues that's that's not what speaking in tongues is all about with speaking in other tongues Paul spoke in tongues when he received the gift of the Holy Ghost when Paul asked the question he says do all speak in tongues do all interpret we know that question and the answer to that question is no not everybody speaks in tongues for an interpretation but everyone who has the Holy Ghost does speak in other tongues that's what the scripture says so let's let's put that to rest tonight this is not the gifts of tongues this this is actually if you look at these two words of the gifts of tongues and the gifts of the whole the gift of the Holy Ghost it's two separate gifts two totally separate meanings two totally separate gifts I remember early in my childhood when I would want something on my birthday I know we're getting real spiritual tonight I didn't have to go beg my parents to say Mom Dad please for the love of God give me something for my birthday I beg you mom I've been a good son I have been a good I've tried my best even though there's times I don't clean my room and you've told me over and over I beg you that's not how my birthday works well it's my birthday I know there's presents coming I know that when we begin to celebrate and we begin to sing that golden Happy Birthday song that there's going to be some gifts that come because it's my birthday God's the same way he's a good father he wants you to have the Holy Ghost more than you want the Holy Ghost because God has never told a lie it's a promise that you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost it's a promise for you I don't care how many times you've tried who are we to we cannot compare our experiences to other people receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost we can't say well that sister over there fell out in the floor speaking in tongues and when I got the Holy Ghost all I said is God forgive me I'm not making fun of anything but all I said is this la la la all right we cannot compare my experience in speaking in tongues with someone else's experience and here's how if we take the same kind of philosophy that we we say hey we're gonna that person is speaking tongues because they weren't satisfied who are we to judge this is not our language this is God's language all right I hope that makes sense I hope that makes sense but as a baby I begin to speak in short little syllables I begin to speak in short little syllables now someone my mom and dad oh my goodness that boy's talking right there look at him he just said dad I didn't say Dad I don't know what I said but I didn't say that well hey I said mama look at that I got one God one God that's what he said I hear it I hear it I hear it then and then I I began to say I I want chalky Maki I want that's my chocolate drink when I used to go to bed I don't God forgive me for that's terrible why'd I say that but if again it's a language you'll learn it's a language you develop I don't speak in tongues now like I did when I was five years old when I received the gift of the Holy Ghost if you're speaking short little syllables and God is giving you the ability to speak in tongues according to scripture that is the gift of the Holy Ghost that's the gift that's the gift don't don't be disgruntled because it doesn't look like the sister over there that can't keep her balance I'm so thankful that God's doing that but God's trying to fill somebody with the gift of the Holy Ghost everybody stand with me all across this room there's got to be a response there's got to be a response I do believe almighty God is going to fill somebody with the gift of the Holy Ghost tonight what I want this church to do is I want all the altar-working team to come around the front if you would and I like I like all the people to come just because that'll make I think that'll make people more comfortable to come up front you know like for every head to be bowed every eye to be closed and I want the church to get in one mind and one Accord just like the day of Pentecost could we get in one mind and one Accord remember it's going to get loud in this place tonight and it's not just emotionalism but it's a response to the infallible word of God with every Ally I close and every head would be bowed I'm I'm preaching to someone tonight that you have heard the death burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ you are pricked in your heart with conviction and you're wondering what in the world do I need to do I want you to step out of your Pew with the holy ghost moving in this place and come find one of these Ultra workers right now if you need the gift of the Holy Ghost I want you to take that step of faith and come right now in the name of Jesus Christ maybe it's been a long time since you received need to give to the Holy Ghost I want you to come right now come on right now you know that Jesus Christ died for you you know that Jesus Christ took all your sins I want to introduce to you the Spirit come on I want you to come up front right now come on every head would be by nobody looking around if there's somebody up here praying it just can start to pray start to pray is there anyone on the sound of my voice that you know that you need the gift of the Holy Ghost you know you need the gift of the Holy Ghost come on right now Cornelius man stupid tradition come on right now come on come up front right now the Holy Ghost wants to go home with you tonight God wants you to have the Holy Ghost more than you want the Holy Ghost oh yes yes I want to give an opportunity for everybody before they begin to play before they begin to play if you're on the sound of my voice tonight I want to give as many opportunity opportunities as I can if you have not received the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues God wants to give you the biblical acts the book of Acts experience of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues come on it's not good enough to just believe it's not good enough to just know that Jesus died for all your sins it's not good enough to know it's not good enough to just cry some tears but you've got to act upon it act upon it come on down to the altar come down to the altar and connect your motions with God begin to think about what God has done for you how God brought you out that's it I feel it right now how God brought you out of sin and God wants to give you the gift of the Holy Ghost full O'Reilly right here come on think about it think about it you know you need the Holy Ghost your emotions are connecting to God but I'm asking this church to gather around could we gather around these people that need to give to the Holy Ghost I want you to speak it out come on God's Gonna Fill somebody tonight I feel the Lord in this house come on ask God to forgive you of all your sins say God you can repeat after me you just gotta mean what you say God I'm asking you to forgive me of all my sins God I Repent of every wrongdoing in my life God when I say I Repent God I mean I'm going to try my best to never do it again I'm gonna try my best God if you forgive me tonight my heart is clean my heart is washed and now we're going to invite the King of Kings into your life you're going to invite the king of kings the Lord who created everything the Lord that created your body come on Jesus is in this house in just a second to say we'll stop oh that's it come on that's it come on the Holy Ghost is here right now come on I I know you're going to connect your emotions with God if you think about what God has done in your life begin to tell him what he means to you begin to brag on God but the volume's gonna have to go up a few notches it's a loud voice it's a loud voice come on that's it that's it let that entrance come come on that's the Holy Ghost I feel right now for the taller God wants to give you the Holy Ghost come on that's it
