Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Open your mouth: your blessing is in your mouth
- Taking the pulpit, he leads praise on one conviction: praise has nothing to do with your feet and everything to do with your mouth. 'If I had ten thousand tongues I couldn't praise him enough' — open up your mouth and say something to God, because your blessing is in your mouth and your deliverance is in your mouth.
- When you quote his word back to him he has no choice but to answer: 'you said in your word I've never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread'; let the poor say that I am rich, let the sick say that I am healed, let the weak say that I am strong.
The lost axe head: habit is not relationship
- He recaps a message he preached from the sons of the prophets in second king six: the sons of the prophets lost the axe head because they were always swinging — always in the motion of church, always in the motion of ministry — and never took care of the axe; they lost their relationship with God without ever leaving the prophet.
- Some of us backslid and never left the church: backslid right in the pews, backslid on the praise team, backslid teaching in school, backslid running buses — it became habit and not relationship, a habitual saint instead of a relational saint, and God wants us to be relational.
Scriptures: 2 Kings 6
The text: Abraham on Moriah
- The text is read entire: God tempts Abraham — 'take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest' — the journey to Moriah, 'I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you,' Isaac's question ('where is the lamb?'), 'God will provide himself a lamb,' the altar, the stayed hand, and the ram caught in the thicket offered in the stead of his son.
- Genesis 22 is the first place in the Bible where the word worship is ever mentioned — and Abraham called it worship, not sacrifice. His threshold prayer asks God to set the preacher himself down and raise the Holy Ghost up inside him; the title is announced: the true cost of worship.
Scriptures: Genesis 22:1-13
Surrender, not conformity
- He tells of a rural village that had never seen a falcon: they trimmed its feathers, cut its talons and filed its beak until it looked like a parrot. The Christian life is about surrender, not conformity — having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof; his mother could make him conform as a boy, with a little fire behind him, but it was not in his heart to surrender.
- Sister Carpenter testified that when she came to Christ at 14, nobody had to tell her what to take off: the day after she received the gift of the Holy Ghost, conviction started — you cannot clean a fish before you catch a fish, and 'if I be lifted up, I'll draw all men unto me.'
- The pandemic, he says, revealed hearts: it showed who conformed and who surrendered. 'I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord' — wear the mask if you must, but do not let it mask your praise.
Trust, obedience, and a God who owes no explanation
- The first step to surrendering your life to God is trust. God told Abraham back in Genesis 12 to leave his family and his kinsmen for a land he would show him — and then told him to sacrifice the son through whom the nations were to be blessed. When what you see in front of your face doesn't match up with what God told you, can you still trust him? Abraham had only a promise — Isaac's name literally means promise — and he trusted it up the mountain.
- God passionately tests: a thing you never wanted is no gift at all — the closet suit given away is not a sacrifice; the favourite suit, the brand new car, the brand new house is. Salvation is free, but it is going to cost you everything: buy the truth and sell it not; obedience is better than sacrifice, and every step Abraham took closer to the altar was accomplished because of obedience.
- Noah did everything exactly as God commanded him (Genesis 6:22): you get in the ark for safety, but you lay things down at an altar — God would not let David build the temple, yet he never kept him from the a-l-t-a-r, where a-l-t-e-r happens. And God owes nobody an explanation: in Job 26 he hung the earth upon nothing, without our help — 'such were some of you,' but look what God brought you from.
Scriptures: Genesis 12; Genesis 6:22; Job 26
Fig leaves and the secret closet
- 'Adam, where art thou?' Adam covered himself with fig leaves — and a fig leaf disconnected from its source expires in twelve hours: a temporary covering that cannot save you. Your money is temporary, your cars are temporary, your house is temporary; build the relationship, and make a closet for God wherever you are — your car, your office, your job.
- The law of first mention gives worship its core meaning: a heart to worship even when it costs us everything. Of fifty who get the Holy Ghost, only ten are back in Bible study — forty conformed, ten surrendered. And the Holy Ghost is more than tongues: in Acts 2 it sat upon them before it filled them; when God changes your language, he also changes your nature.
Scriptures: Genesis 3; Acts 2
The altar: speak what you need
- He testifies of a woman who wanted a baby: he prayed that God would do exceedingly above all she could ask or think, and told her, 'I don't want you to give a one; I want you to give a two' — she called to say the doctor found twins. Do not tell me what God cannot do.
- 'I'm done': three calls go out — come if you want the Holy Ghost tonight, come if you need healing, come if you have backslidden in heart and mind and want to come back to God. The Holy Ghost is a promise and a gift; you do not beg for a gift, you pick it up.
- The altar ministry presses the room to say it with their mouths — surrender your heart, surrender your mind, surrender your agenda — praying healing in the name of Jesus (Mike Fuller is named for a touch), victory for the overwhelmed and disappointed, and the promise of the Holy Ghost 'unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off.'

choice but to believe it grab your bibles on tonight i believe that i repented it somebody came here tonight and this bit of repentance is in here i believe somebody is coming back to god tonight and realize something some of us i preached a message about the sons of the prophets from second king six i think that is and i talked about how they were on that river and the reason that exhale was lost past the carpenter is because they were not taking care of the eggs they were swinging always in the motion of church always in the motion of ministry always here and there that they lost their relationship with god and never left the prophet elijah some of us we backslid and we never left the church we backslid right in the pews you backslid on the praise team you backslid teaching in school you backslid running buses and you thought it was normal because you were still in the motion of it it was habit and not relationship you became a habitual saint and not a relational saint god wants us to be relational i'm gonna get there tonight we're coming from genesis chapter 22 verses 1 through 13 i was trying to find another way to not have to read all 13 verses but i got to go with the spirit of god that's the only way we're going to get it praise god i want to go ahead and start reading right here and it came to pass after these things that god did tell abraham and said unto him abraham and he said behold here i am and he said take now thy son thine only son isaac whom thou lovest and get thee into the land of moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which i will tell of thee and abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his ass and took two of the young men with him and isaac his son enclaved the wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went into the place in which god had told him that on the third day abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place of fall and abraham said unto his young men about you here with the ass and i the lad will go yonah in worship and come again to you abraham took the word of the burnt offering and laid it upon isaac his son he took the fire in his hand and a knife and they went both of them together now he's expecting to abraham his father and said my father and he said here am i my son and he said behold the fire in the wood but where is the lamb for a burnt offering and abraham said my son god will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering so they both went both of them together and they came to the place where god had told him of abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order and bound isaac his son and laid him on the altar upon the wood and abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son and the angel of the lord called unto him out of heaven and said abraham abraham and he said hear amen and he said lay not thine hand upon the lad neither do thou anything unto him for now i know that thou fearest god seeing that thou has not withheld thy son and only son from me and abraham lifted up his eyes and looked at me hold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son father god in the name of jesus lord we come before you right now long as we know how long thanking you praising you lord jesus for this day for this our lord lord you almighty god lord you are excellent god i'm asking you lord jesus as your word comes forth on tonight oh god that you set oar mcniel down lord and you raise your holy ghost up inside of me lord i don't want any glory oh god lord the glory belongs to you lord jesus let somebody come back to you on tonight lord jesus and we're believing in in jesus name that we pray amen somebody clap your hands and give god some praise come on clap your hands and give god some praise you may be seated in the presence of the lord praise god when i was i was asking god i was on the way here and my wife asked me she said do you know what you're going to preach i said not yet i said yeah i said but the lord is still dealing with me and fac maryville you all mean so much to me because i i'll be 23 next month i know i probably look way older but i'm i'm only i'll only be 23 years old so but um ten years ago pastor carpenter preached a message in lumberton north carolina pembroke north carolina at bishop earl chavez's cam meat camp meeting i was 13 it made such an impact on me he preached the message it was entitled there's still bread on the table and i since then i've been following you know when he came there he was talking about how you all had just bought the land if i'm not mistaken and bought the land and we're trying to do different things and look at what god has done i told him i told my wife he was coming up on the bridge i said it pops out like a city when you come across it said it shall be a city on a hill i'm telling y'all but i'm excited about being here but um i believe the lord is going to work mildly on tonight thankful for pastor chad and sister fallon for taking us out to dinner last night oh my god i really thank you i really thank you and pastor carpenter he took me out to dinner today to a great thai place they brought something to me he said you're gonna mess with it i said i don't trust it pastor i said no i i'm gonna wait till my food come but it was great it was great it was great and i'm thankful to be here my wife we were able to ride through come to pigeon forge a day earlier and go through caves cove and last but not least i want to thank my wife for coming with me sister alexis she's not always in the past she hasn't always been able to attend with me because of her scholastic obligations she's getting her master's of marriage and family therapy she'll be done if we're not mistaken in december of this year so we thank the lord for that now the preliminaries are out of the way the title i want to use tonight is the true cost of worship look at somebody say the true cost of worship the true cost of worship have you ever realized that the christian life is about surrender and not conformity surrender not conformity many of us who come to jesus think that the first thing that you need to do is conform to the status quo of the group that may be dressing like others talk like others or make your prayers sound real spiritual you know how we do you know how his pentecostal folk do you know how we do we can put down some praying we can put down some praying and and trying to find and trying to fit in they miss god's purpose and it's not conformity is surrender it's surrender and i'm going to tell you a story i read this story recently in an article on facebook and it was about a rural village that was located in an area inhabited by parrots one day a falcon landed on a windowsill the owner of the house caught it the villagers had never seen such a bird they decided to trim back his feathers they cut his talons the beak was the next to go it was fouled down so that the falcon looked like a parrot we should look alike in our efforts to be like jesus but we should allow for unique giftings and talents to develop in accordance with god's plan and not our preferences many times when we're talking about surrendering to god when we talk about church when we talk about apostolic and we talk about pentecostalism we have the look down pat we have the sound down pat the bible put it like this having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof most of us we can look the part but here's the thing a lot of times you conform but we're conforming it's not always in your heart how many people found it to be true when i was growing up my mother would tell me to do something i didn't want to do it but she tackled me a little bit and you know how she put a little fire behind me and guess what i didn't want to do it but she made me conform to it but guess what it wasn't in my heart to surrender because if it wasn't my heart to surrender she would have never had to put a fire behind me to do it she would have never had to say go clean your room i would have automatically went to go clean my room and the thing is when it's not in your heart there's no use in doing it because when it's not in your heart when you're just doing something the bible even let us know it said if you pray and you do not believe it that's a sin right there you know wiser sin because it wasn't in your heart this thing right here has to be in your heart it has to be in your heart this has to be in your heart you have to have it has to be in your heart to serve god it has to be in your heart to walk with god and when it gets in our heart when the doctrine of the bible comes across you won't look at it twice you'll say i have to do it i was listening to sister carpenter today she was talking she was talking about how when she came to christ when she was 14 nobody had to tell her what to take off she said the day after she received the gift of the holy ghost it started convicting her see i can only say so much to you but when the holy ghost starts convicting your heart that's why we must be filled with the gift of the holy ghost you cannot clean a fish before you catch a fish he said how to tea how to draw the masses men of every birth for an answer jesus gave us the key he said if i be lifted up i'll draw all men unto thee you were created by god to give all your affections and allegiance to him if you hold anything back you end up sending it off to lesser unions this sending off of your affections and allegiance is called surrender if god doesn't get all of you you will surrender partially or completely to something or someone else see we're living in a world now where they're teaching you to surrender to everything else but god i was looking at something the other day i don't i don't say much about this covert 19 i don't say anything much about it but we're in a time where it's safe to go everywhere else except for the house of god and see i know some people you got some jelly back preachers who won't say anything pastor carpenter but i got to say the house of god is still essential he said i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord let us go into the house of the lord hallelujah let us go into the house of the lord and that's what the devil would do because you know what this you know what this covenant 19 did pastor carpenter it revealed the hearts of men it showed you who conformed and who surrendered it shows you who can form and who surrender because if it's in your heart even if you have to come in with your mask on you'll put it on and say i have my mask on but i'm not gonna let it mask my praise hallelujah how many people can say that i'm not going to let it mask my praise praise god we all know the story of abraham and isaac we it's a very familiar story also genesis 22 is the first place in the bible where the word worship was ever mentioned and we have here remember god promised abraham and sarah a son he said abraham the nations are going to be blessed by your seed through your seed watch this abraham said lord what do you mean i don't even have a son i don't even have a son lord abraham and sarah waited 25 years for a son meaning if you're waiting you're in good company some of us right now we're waiting and we say lord is it for you remember if he put you on the waiting list he put you on a good list i'm on god's waiting list and i'm excited about it i'm on his waiting list and i'm excited about it but abraham and sarah god promised them a son and the lord eventually he gave them this son abraham was a hundred sal was 90. imagine a 90-year-old woman bearing a son it's not even heard of in these days i read in a story the other day talking about a woman in the uk that was 79 years old and had her first baby guess what it's not heard of but god can do the impossible many times we don't look at it like that we say well lord i'm looking at what man says that's the issue now you'll let man's word override faith see man told you not to come to church but what faith says get in your car crank it up and go to the house of god because man cannot tell me what god has already done for me some of y'all didn't hear kobe got you you was on your deathbed but god it says for the enemy comes to steal kill and destroy but i have already come that you may have life and have it more eternally but it's a conjunction meaning everything that was before it gets canceled out he was already there before the enemy ever made a plan to come yeah god was already there but we have a situation here where god tells abraham sacrifice your son abraham's saying i'm going to imagine lord you told me you told me god not buddha not mohammed god you told me that the nations would be blessed through my seed abraham being who he was abraham was a faithful man faithful and all he did the lord told him back in genesis 12 leave your family and your kinsmen and go to a land that i will show thee and abraham being who he was he told his men that were with him he said listen i have to listen to god me and the lad are going to go yonder and worship the first step to surrendering your life to god is trust you'll never surrender your life to god unless you can trust him i am convinced that one of the reasons this story is included in god's word is to teach us that god can be trusted there will be times in your life when it seems like your whole future seems to balance on one decision abraham realized something see god told him i want you to come sacrifice isaac you never heard the word sacrifice come out of abraham's mouth he said me and the lad are going yonder to worship if you start replacing your sacrifice with the word worship that's when god can do something for you oh he didn't look at it as a sacrifice he said lord i'm going to give you my reasonable service which is my worship worship is the most reasonable thing you can give to god you don't have money you might not have a big car you might not have a big house but i can worship him hallelujah everybody has something in common they can't worship god and abraham had faith now he said and i in the lab will go yonder in worship and come again to you uh-oh abraham already knew that god was going to come through on his end this is where we find abraham does he trust god and do what he asked or does he act as though god has never spoken to him or perhaps he misheard it is when abraham's heart was fully devoted and entwined with isaac that god made this mountainous request some time later god tested abraham the word for tested here conveys the kind of passion associated with the music concept of fortissimo meaning strong or passionate when god wants to bring you into a greater relationship through surrender he passionately tests you he passionately tested you somebody said passionately he passionately tested you you ever had some things that you could just give up easily but it was other things you were like oh no god my mom always taught us growing up she said when you're giving something to someone if you didn't ever want it from the jump you didn't really get it people say well i gave this to them it was sitting in the closet for 10 years anyways you didn't want it you didn't give it to him you you didn't mind getting rid of it you you would have almost done better to burn it up because you didn't care about it was sitting in the closet but what about when is your favorite suit when is your favorite shoes when that's your brand new car when that's your brand new house what about what set god says give it up and so many times if we all be honest about it we have to give up something where there is worship there is sacrifice god said sacrifice abraham said worship they're intertwined with each other and many times we come to god thinking that we can do what we want when we want to and not have to give up anything salvation is free but it's going to cost you everything the bible said to buy the truth and sell it not it's free but it's going to cost you everything and why is god testing you he wants to teach you how to love him only then when you ever experience all god has designed for your life you can't travel far up the mountain with abraham and isaac without seeing a roadside attraction identified as obedience life wears us down the provision god offers in a life of surrender strengthened through obedience every step abraham took closer to the altar was accomplished because of obedience you're not going to always feel like doing what you do now that's why sometimes you have to simply do it through an act of obedience the bible did say for it's better to obey that it is a sacrifice obedience is better than sacrifice can you i want you to i want you to think about something abraham he was going up this mountain he was climbing up this mountain mariah he was climbing and he was going he was climbing and he was going do you not think that it went through his mind i'm going up here to sacrifice my only son i'm my mother's only biological son i can imagine if god told her to sacrifice me i can already see it now no god you can't get them i can see it right now uh-uh this is my only boy imagine that imagine when god makes you a promise but his word is contradicting the promise that he made you remember he promised adam the world but he only gave him the garden what about when what you see in front of your face doesn't match up with what god told you can you still trust him what about when god told you you're going to be healed but you're still sick what about when god told you you're going to be rich but you're still broke what about when god told you you're going to get a new job but you're still jobless i'm going to trust god i preached someone a message one time the time god lied to me because that's what it seems like sometime pastor carpenter when god told you something but everything in your life is contradicting what he told you how many people have ever been there before you knew the promise you remember abraham isaac's name literally means promise he's dragging the promise of the mountain he's dragging the promise of the mountain lord the nations after this cannot be born if i kill him and abraham daddy i see the wood i see the fire but where's the sacrifice daddy where's the sacrifice daddy where's the sacrifice heard that message pastor carpenter preached a couple of weeks ago about how his mother sacrifice to put him through that christian school somebody has to sacrifice something where there is no sacrifice there is no fruit somebody had to sacrifice for all of this somebody didn't go on vacation somebody didn't get an anniversary gift some nights you had to eat beanies and weenies but the sacrifice made it worth it you are going to have to sacrifice something oh yeah another haunting yourself you got to sacrifice something in this world with god sometimes you're going to sacrifice everything that you own everything that you have have the sacrifice you have the sacrifice hallelujah abraham's journey started early because of obedience he saddled the donkeys and pulled the straps tight because of obedience every swing of the axe handle was done in the power and strength of obedience at the heart of surrender is the only motivation that keeps us yielding and that's obedience some of us right now the only thing we're standing on is the word of god and you know something about the word of god sometimes the word of god feels like a weak limb it gets to bouncing it bounces sometimes you get kind of but guess what it'll never break it'll bounce but it'll never break some of us in here we've been trying to balance on the word of god god you said this but this is what i see god you said it my child was gonna come back to church but god seems like they're getting deeper in the street lord you said that my husband was going to be saved oh god but seems like he that didn't work all you have to do is trust the promise that god gave unto you you must trust his promise you must trust his promise that's all abraham had all abraham had to his name was a promise remember abraham at first was a nomad he moved from place to place he told his nephew lot you pick where you're gonna go and i'm gonna pick where i'm gonna go but i'm gonna let you pick first where did lockpick lock pick the plane he picked the flatland because on flatland you can you maybe can see a lot better and you know what that's the easy way but abraham picked the mountain whoo on the mountain sometimes you're gonna fall sometimes you're gonna scrape your hand a little bit you're gonna scrape your leg a little bit but while you're on this side of the mountain guess what god is doing on the other side of the mountain he's preparing you the other side of the mountain the other side other side of the mountain praise god listen to what god says about noah as it relates to obedience nora did everything that exactly as god had commanded him genesis 6 and 22. what was true or no was doubly true of abraham a few hundred years later the building of an ark in the building of an altar offer us a tandem look at how god teaches his servants obedience noah and abraham completely obeyed every instruction given by god and they obeyed exactly the purpose of an art is safety the purpose of an altar is to arrange hard things before the lord through surrender you get in the ark for safety but laying that stuff down at the altar is tough remember this david went up to the lord he said lord i want to assist in building the temple lord said david i can't let you do that because you were a man of war you have blood on your hands he said but what i'm going to do is i'm going to let your son solomon build the temple he said but david what i'm going to let you build is the altar the a-l-t-a-r and watch this you know why the lord couldn't keep him from the altar because the a-l-t-a-r where a-l-t-e are hallelujah god will keep you from a lot of things but a place he'll never keep you from is the altar because that's where you bring your things of life that's where you bring what you're going through you bring it right here to the altar he said david i'm not going to let you build a temple but i'm never going to keep you from the altar i'm never going to keep you from laying what you have to lay before me he never kept him from the altar hallelujah he never kept him from the altar abraham and noah teach us simply that god doesn't owe us an explanation or reason for the things he require if god owed you an explanation that means you're god also remember in job he told us how he took the earth job 26 that is i think and hungered upon nothing hung it on nothing that means it was the perfect latitude the perfect longitude and he didn't even need your help doing it so why does he owe you an explanation he said i knew the ending before the beginning and you think that god needs you to owe your explanation no baby all you need to do is walk on the promises of god don't worry about where it's going just walk on the promises of god i am a promise walker one foot in front of the other i'm going to walk on the promises of god all i have is his promise hallelujah one day we will have to oh we will have insight today we have obedience you will never grow close to god and worship nor be able to surrender until you learn to obey most of us are trying to figure out lord why am i not father know what i should be because you cannot obey when god tells you something it's not about what you think it should be i know sometimes we try to help god but god doesn't need our help god does not need our help i'ma say it again god does not need our help when he made you he made you by himself by himself by himself and on his own he does not need your help he doesn't need my help pastor carpenter if i decide not to preach the word of god he'll raise up another preacher to preach the word of god i'm not that important to god where i cannot be replaced the only important thing that god ever created was himself he's the only one that cannot be replaced in this earth remember god is the source and everything else is a resource everybody else re-ups from god hallelujah the stream runs to a river and the river runs to ocean air god is the ocean and the rest of us are streams and rivers and when we realize that we'll realize why god doesn't owe us explanation praise god hallelujah after abraham obeyed god he was able to surrender and learn to obey why because obedience is the key that unlocks the mystery of understanding what god is doing after abraham had obeyed god he clearly understood that god was jehovah jireh and that he loved god more than his son abraham learned the lesson that all of us need to learn surrendering to god means having faith that god alone knows what is best for your life many of us we came here to fsc maryville you didn't even know why you came i've heard people saying they went in churches and they typed in another church address and it led them to the apostolic church some of us in here if we go back and we dig up track records some of us in here are liars whoremongers deceivers paul said such were some of you and look at what god brought you from look at where god brought you from when i was listening to that message that pastor carpenter preached he talked about how bishop mccool took in a 16 year old boy and became kind of like a father figure to him who would have ever known his mother putting back that money whether wondering whether she was going to fix the car or put it into a christian school who would ever imagine that it would end up to be the general superintendent of the aljc who would have ever thought when god makes you a promise the promise is sure most of us we're wondering about the promise don't wonder about it god can do everything except for lie and fail if god said it sign the check and go to the bank and cash it because it's done if god said it earlier i mentioned that this is the first place in the bible where the word worship is used i don't hear any instruments in this verse nor do i see people singing congregationally i guarantee you that abraham wasn't shouting on his way up the mountain it's so easy to limit the definition of worship to singing or rejoicing before god do you understand that these are only outward manifestations of worship it's going to be plenty of times in your life where you're not going to hear pastor chad singing you're not going to hear brother nolan playing the drums you're not gonna hear any of that that's why we must create a secret closet for god to come and visit us if you ever do the study behind when they talked about going to your secret closet it talked about how the jewish women would have their prey shows and they would take their pressure off and they would wrap it around their heads like this and wherever they were they could create a closet for god to enter into them it wasn't about where i am it wasn't talking about you going into a closet at your house sometimes you have to make your car closing sometimes you have to make your offers at your job or closing sometimes you have to do whatever you have to do to get what you need from god make a closet for him to come in and speak to you remember abraham he had a relationship with god it's hard to trust somebody when there's no relationship there i married my wife i trust her because this relationship there we talk we eat together we sleep together everything most of the time everything i do she does and that builds a relationship are you building a relationship with god remember he has adam in genesis 3 adam where art dao where are you adam i have a message that i'm gonna preach one day where did i leave you adam when i left i know i told you to come commune with me every day at the cool of the day where where are you at what did adam do adam said who i'm naked adam went and tried to find a covering if you ever go the bible says adam found a covering with those fig leaves go look up what fig leaves are fig leaves when they are disconnected from the source they expire in 12 hours it's a temporary covering it cannot save you that's why you must be connected to a place like this all the other stuff is temporary pastor carpenter your money is temporary your cars are temporary your house is temporary solomon said at the end of his life i counted all these things as vanity you've never seen a u-haul fall on a hearse because you can't take none of it with you if i never drive a fancy car if i never live in a fancy house as long as my soul is right with you oh god as long as my soul is right hallelujah the law first mentioned introduces us to the core meaning associated with a word and hear the word means we have a heart to worship even when it costs us everything how could abraham have such confidence that he and isaac would not only go and worship but also return wasn't isaac to be sacrificed abraham had been promised through descendants through isaac abraham learned that god keeps his word and his confidence in god produce extraordinary faith when abraham demonstrated this faith he told the brother we will come back to you could he have been hidden that maybe he was being tested since abraham had confidence that god would raise someone from the dead is it possible that he was testing god god wants us to test him but only when unconditional obedience is demonstrated when you don't realize when god is testing you you're testing him when god asks you to do something and you're on that mountain between you're saying will i conform or will i surrender because we're to that point now in church and you know the reason watch this why is it that you'll see 50 people get the holy ghost and you'll only see 10 back in bible study because 40 conform but 10 surrender when god changes your language he'll also change your nature the holy ghost is more than you just speaking in tongues watch this bible said in acts 2 that before it went into them it set upon them before it endued them it endowed them the holy ghost just didn't come just so you can speak in tongues the holy ghost came so when you get in a business meeting you can say lord what do you want me to say because i promise you when pastor carpenter was meeting with the contractors about this church he couldn't speak in tongues to him they would have said man he's a kook man let me go find some they would have called him everything in the book he had to ask god what to say lord how to construct your house lord what to do how do you want me to draw it up what do you want here what do you want there but all that was breeded through sacrifice when we learn how to surrender our lives to god that's when he can do what he has to do for us abraham trusted god trusting god is not always a pretty thing sometimes it's very ugly most of us are here we've been trusting god for years i prayed for this woman about 3-4 months ago and she told me she said me and my husband want a baby i prayed a prayer i said lord you're able to do exceedingly above and beyond what we can ask or think according to the power that worketh in you that's the spirit that's that's that's a scripture right there i told him i said listen i don't want you to give a one i want you to give a two now some people say why would you ask that so she can know that god is a miracle worker she called me pastor carpenter she said me and my husband went to the doctor we're not just having one baby we're having twins do not tell me what god cannot do when we learn to depend on god and his promise she told me that god had already told her that he promised her kids kids plural more than one but what about like i said before and what god says doesn't match up with what's in your face remember abraham climbing that mountain can you imagine the way that the enemy was speaking to him god doesn't love you abraham if he loved you why would he tell you to sacrifice your only son why don't you just quit this god thing why don't you give up on god and tell them you done if we really be truthful about it just like god talks to you the enemy will too and the enemy will tell you everything that is against the word of god remember jesus was starting his ministry he went into 40 days of prayer and fasting when he went up there he was praying that fasting the enemy satan was telling me everything that he could do but guess what he would always misquote it by one word here or another and that's how the devil does that's why we got to get in the word of god and when you get in his word you realize what god is saying through his promise a promise that god gave to us he said that my sons and daughters he said i should pour out my spirit upon all flesh the holy ghost is a promise it's a gift when you're town with people you don't have to tell them you don't have to beg for the holy ghost it's a gift he'll give it to you all you do with a gift is you just pick it up most of us in here if we be honest about it how many people here don't have the holy ghost home tonight so everybody has the holy ghost i'm working through the spirit now i'm asked one more time how many people in here don't have the holy ghost home tonight if you don't have the holy ghost and you desire the holy ghost i want
