Build By Giving Ep #2

we are of course in february our topic for wednesday nights is we are building by giving everybody say give everybody say give does anybody learned how to say it backwards give yeah we're going to talk more about giving tonight that was a dad joke herb you might want to use that one later um giving giving of course is foundational that's why it's part of what we discuss on them on a monthly level because giving guys listen carefully in the family not even of god but just in the family how many you know you got to give as a family your home your four walls what are some things that you have to give time what else love patience money say it again say one more time yeah what else what do you give what's at your home that you have to give correction what else seth now why you got to go there anybody else compromise yeah what else you got to give instruction certainly what else coffee yeah we we realized that's part of being not by yourself huh when you've got a a spouse when you've got children you've got grandkids when you've got a job when you've got responsibilities you already know that giving is a vital part of belonging amen we learn also though that there are incredible benefits and blessings that come from being a part of the family of god and learning how to give with the proper attitude giving means that you have to pour yourself into your family into those closest to you how many parents know that what you're pouring into your children you are giving them hope for tomorrow what you're teaching your children what you are instructing your children you are hoping that they will receive it from you and they will grow to be able to understand the value of what they have been given does anybody here appreciate the heritage that you've been given are you with me some of you sitting here may be first generation church people your family never went to church but yet you've come into a family and you are what's called i don't have a heritage but i'm building a heritage and that's something that you can give and invest in the next generation um in your family you give them space do you not i've often wondered how the old-timers did it and i'm one of those there was five of us growing up in our house when i was a kid no there were six of us wow then there became seven of us they never came i'm joking we had one bathroom one small bathroom my house now where my wife and i live by ourselves we have three sometimes i just go to the other bathrooms just to use them there there you go yeah i gotta have this one here but growing up you know and shower times how many members the first bath and then the last bath yeah mine was the cold one dakota because all the hot water had been used you have to give you have to give your family those who those who are in your home you give them a place to sleep you know growing well i got so many cool stories that i wish i didn't have no um my brother and i slept on couches so we had to make our bed up every night and then put the couch back in the morning we woke up that was part of our routine we had to make it with the sheets and the blanket but then in the morning got to gather it up fold it stick it away so that it could be the couch during the day you know what i'm talking about okay nevermind um as families you have to learn your responsibility and the weight of carrying that responsibility it's part of what again what you're doing is you are giving to the next generation the opportunity for them to be successful we get we learn to give we also have to learn how to receive correctly the bible is is very specific it is more blessed to give than to receive we talked a little of that last week but the fact is some people don't receive very well how many enjoy giving somebody something and they receive it with arrogance about time huh that means a lot don't cate beth you when somebody says to you well you should have done that earlier oh you don't even know you don't know what's about to happen you know sometimes i always of course y'all don't know this i pick on people um my wife sometimes i'll tell it's about time you got me my coffee and then she becomes very very unstable in all of her ways and i said you i mean thank you for the coffee to learn that wearing it would not be a good thing tonight we're going to go we're going to go in a couple of directions let's go to first timothy this is a new testament letter written to the young preacher first timothy chapter 6 this is the verse your parents use to help your children and to help those that in your family that's having financial difficulties first timothy 6 verse number 10. let's read this out loud can y'all help me here it is we know what it is for money the love of money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they've aired from the faith pierced themselves through many sorrows the love of money how many believe money is evil well it depends on if you have it or you're looking for it right i mean you know if you need money you can come up with all kinds you know how they got their money don't you you know but the fact is is money in and of itself is simply a medium of exchange that's all it is it's a bill it's a coin it's a bunch of bills it's a bunch of coins just a medium of exchange it's a way to take this to get that that to get that but if you love that medium of exchange there's a basis that's in your spirit and in your life that is going to show its fruit the love of money is the it calls it here according to what was written to timothy the root of all evil the evil you see around you the the evil that you see on your job and wherever it is you happen to be there is a root to that and that evil the root of it is people loving money it's interesting that our world is finally figuring out that greed is a very possible thing it's interesting that that when you have money and you want more money it becomes greed and then you begin to do whatever it takes to get more because it drives you because you are planted in evil now notice in the continuance but thou o man of god flee these things it says follow after ready righteousness godliness faith love patience meekness even goes on to say to fight the good fight of faith lay hold on eternal life whereunto thou art also called and has professed a good profession before many witnesses the root gives you an understanding of where the loving of the medium of exchange comes from but then paul tells timothy to run away from those things as quickly as you can he uses the term flee pick it up and move it don't dabble around it don't dip your toe in it and test the water he's saying as fast as you see it get up and move away from it why is that advice so important i mean is there anything wrong with somebody having a hundred dollar bill anybody okay has anybody ever had a hundred dollar bill let's start there ian you've had a hundred dollar bill do you still have it can we borrow it i'm joking the hundred dollar bill is not the issue what happens is is what fantasies come attached to that hundred dollars huh there is no greater joy than to watch somebody open up their bowels of compassion and say i'm going to help i'm going to support i'm going to give to you in this way knowing that the attitude it takes to turn loose of something that's of value means you are learning the benefits of not allowing that medium of exchange to drive your life i know folk right now that that man they got the first dollar they ever made and they're they're they're hateful they're spiteful those are southern terms you don't want to be around them they ain't no fun to be with you know those are other southern terms here's the point i'm making you can see their love for that money has driven them to things places and attitudes that nobody really wants to be around i've had bosses before that i figured out very quickly what they were looking for they were looking for the next dollar and they were making my life miserable for that and you know i had one guy work well i told him you know what you've lived by the sword you are now going to die by it he looked me in the eye and he said i i don't how can you say that i said because i see where your route is no no you know oh my company's big man this is yeah when i started it was five of us when i quit left there went to another company there were 70 people i mean he had done a great job but money was driving him guess what happened within three months company went under almost lost his house almost lost his family and i saw him a few years later you know what he said to me he's pretty close to right really how's that business i lost it yeah he's the one that got in the fight with microsoft point is this paul says to young timothy get away from that as fast as you can don't even entertain it flee it get away from it i've come to tell you friend that is the greatest advice you'll ever get do not allow allow money to be what drives you it only leads to more and more greed filthiness and junk but instead he begins this list and he says follow after righteousness god on his faith love patience make what do those things sound like almost very similar to fruit of the spirit if you've got the spiritual things of god working in you this is going to show what if then what if then some of you in here your ministry is waiting to be birthed in multitudes and multitudes of dollars i'm convinced that there are some that are in the church and they have a reason and a calling to be there because they can finance things they have figured out i do not love money but what i can do with the money that i make is i can invest it in the things of god huh that's an you better understand that is something that you have to work on you better not pray to be a millionaire until you pray first god let me be a strong christian because that million will drive you to the it'll drive you to the ground but if you can pray solomon the only reason he had all the wealth and what he did is what was he asking for lord just just let me let me let me understand let me let me grip this so i know how to deal with what you give me fact of the matter is the righteousness the godliness the faith the love the patience the meekness these things he very specifically says to young timothy you run after those things he even calls it a what a good profession he even says there's witnesses that are going to attest to the fact that your blessing comes from the lord because you are submitted to him you are giving to him now there's a lot of us sitting in here tonight some of watching online you realize that the only reason you have what you have is because god gave it to you and you know beyond a shadow of a doubt you are beyond wealthy it is not with the possessions you have or maybe you do have possessions it is not with the things the job that you have or maybe you do have that job but the thing i'm trying to tell you about you are wealthy because you have learned the lord gives he takes away but i'm gonna bless his name you understand that not loving money will bless you more than loving money some of some of us in here don't have money and you better be thankful you don't because you might not be able to walk the line that the lord's asking you to walk your spirit has to be a spirit of service it has to be a spirit that's what paul was writing to timothy you need to be a servant you need to understand the power of serving something that i've noticed and again i don't i'm trying to learn things about the word of god i've know what are some things that a servant demonstrates if he's a servant to a master humility yeah what else loyalty obedience submissiveness what else obedience why you got to use that twice feeding vegan what did you say come on help me out now we know that ain't true anyway all the things that a servant knows about his master do you guys also realize that when the servant really knows his master that he gets to partake of some things because he's close to the master is that right he's close to you know what i i'm going to go in there and prepare and we'll fix do you think for a moment that the servants that went into the king's room while he ate walked out there and ate crumbs or the trash that came off the floor no the king said uh you're going to prepare for me but then i'm going to make sure you're taken care of it didn't mean that they were going to eat the same or maybe they did point is this they were taken care of some of us want to swap that around and we want to sit at the king's table and and in all rights you might be able to but in all understanding the scripture says very clearly that if you serve with understanding humility realizing from whom the blessings come from whom the things work in your life you are above all a blessed person let's go to another verse this is matthew now matthew chapter six this is one we're going to spend just a couple of minutes on matthew 6 24 you ready everybody read this with me please no man can serve two masters for either he will hate the one love the other hold to the one despise the other cannot serve god and man love is a strong word do you agree but are using the same context here is hate you'll love you'll hate you can't have them both see we live in 2022 there's a whole world out there that wants to have an affair with both they want to be able to to to do this and and and there and the whole time they're twix and tween and the fact of the matter is is that's worse than any you can't you can't love them both so here's what here's what the fact is what grips your heart what drives you where your intentions are need to be focused on the blessings that god's giving you if that's the case then you cannot love the things of mammon translated is what wealth if you simply want to run after well tonight this lesson's on giving stay with me if you want to run after wealth you're going to serve wealth you are going to serve wealth because you can't serve god and serve wealth god's gonna say sorry go do your thing one of the coolest things about god that you have probably already discovered if not you will soon discover or it's coming to you in a big blast and that is this god doesn't have any competition he doesn't he doesn't he's a jealous god it's nobody else's plan simply his that's what we teach our kids look god's in control of this and even though things fall apart you better know that god's still on the throne do you realize that if you pray a prayer for strength and for direction and guidance from the lord that the lord hears your prayer now the fact is you've got to trust that god's going to move on behalf of that prayer trust is the problem agreed if you're chasing after mammon or wealth who is your master then i think a lot of us through the last few years through this inflation through jobs unsecured through people's sin being sent home because of covered now you're working at home you're not work all the things that have thrown the whole system into an upheaval i think a lot of folk have figured out you know what you're not as slick as you thought you were but i i'm here to tell you that in this church in in this particular assembly if you want a job and you're a good decent person that'll work god will bless you with a job some of you have jobs you don't even deserve i don't know how in the world you're there seth don't joke gotcha i'm just saying and some of you come to me sometimes pastor got a raise on the job and i'll just go how how did that happen i don't know god's faithful you better believe it you better thank him every day i'm here to tell you wealth can destroy you the best most perfect person if they start chasing after mammon they're going to realize that you can't serve it you will become slave to it and it will drive you it'll destroy you it'll hurt you and when you're left destitute though this is the coolest thing about our god when you're left destitute and broken heap if you'll get your eyes off of mammon you can turn it to god and his love still reaches for you his power still gets a hold of you love and hate that's the relationship that it's spoken of here so you're going to hate one and you're going to love the other that said if you don't want to serve ma'am and guess what you better check your love life lord i'm going to love you with everything that i've got lord i'm going to love you with my tithe my offering my the way i dress where i go who i hang i'm going to love you with all of it i'm going to love you with a good attitude i'm going to love you lord and when nobody else will i'm going to love you why because if i'm loving god and i am committed to the things of god then giving and serving and being what god wants me to be is going to become a blessing instead of a curse see we live in a generation that if there's our do's and don'ts it's called legalism and that term usually comes from people who don't understand the word legal because you said something that was illegal no i have a right to say things oh but i don't so you just contradicted yourself man you know what my my grandfather said you know don't you can be dumb all you want but don't open your mouth and prove it just just you know just matthew again chapter six is this in red in anybody's bible is it 619 lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth rust doth corrupt where thieves break through and steal verse 20 says but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven we're neither moth nor rust doth corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal verse 21 you already read it with me for where your treasure is there will your heart be also you know this is the bible verse we teach in sunday school but notice the the order of the verse everything's based on what where the treasure is located it's not on the condition of the heart the heart is determined by where the treasure is so if your treasure is in the things of this world guess what hearts already automatically going to point to it but if your treasure is in the things of god guess what it's going to point to the things of god heaven living for him loving him serving him treasures are placed aside for what reason anybody has a kid ever search for hidden treasure man we used to hunt all the time for hidden treasures we'd find them anybody yeah it was called a aluminum can that's a nick glass bottle coke bottle five cents if you got five of them you got a quarter and then you could buy a pack of gum get 10 of them you almost got lunch and my dad taught me a trick that i never was brave enough to try he'd say go turn them in get your money go outside walk around back because that's where they're going to set the empty ones wait a minute he'd say do that about three times you got enough for the whole family to eat and i'm like now somehow some way i don't know how in there that sounds good hang on to me hang on to me treasures are they're placed aside for future i've asked this question and just not long ago here from this podium what do you value when you value something there's a story that goes along with it because you realize the value of it by what it is what it means where it came from its origin what it what it does okay you realize that things on earth guys are very temporal short term when you think you've got it under control on earth what happens when you think you get it and you grasp it and you really you're doing good on your job what transpires i mean honestly when you think that that you you know the car you bought is going to last you forever how many i've made that mistake you know this is my last car six cars later i should have bought a rolls royce you know what i'm saying it comes with a lifetime warranty of course it's 400 000 to buy it but it's got to be worth something right here's my point when you are investing and giving into heavenly things you will reap the heavenly rewards off wonder what will it be like it i don't know yet neither do you what will it be like to stand on the inside of heaven's gates and see who comes in i don't know if that'll be a thing or not i'm not sure i haven't been there to know i know what i read but i wonder at times if i could stand there for a moment and watch folk come through and then look at me and me look at them and see you'll be known i think i know you use that mean boy on the button i'm joking he gonna look at me say i didn't think you'd be i'm like oh now some of some folk i'll be very shocked what i'm joking and we'll probably say that at the same time you know jinx you know we bought a coke say hang on to me a moment heavenly things now the thing about heaven is none of us know really we have we have what was written we have kind of how it was put together i'm not sure that i really understand streets of gold i mean i don't i don't that i know of have any gold i may have a i don't know do i have gold oh we have gold silverware from lauren and sam's uh reset blast man sorry lauren we was going for the good stuff but so we you know maybe a maybe a ring or something that was granny's or mine there's not a lot of gold i don't i don't fathom walking on it i mean my wife mops the floors at home and don't you step on that line how can i step on gold gates of pearl a pearl man the clam am i right ain't none of us going through if it's that big but if it's a gate and it's one the clan where are they and who broke it open uh am i and then the stones it talks about that are the foundations i'm like oh do you realize that what the does anybody know the size of this place come on we brag because somebody's some of y'all that are fitting to be married or just got married you get a you get an engagement ring you're all like yeah that's all that what yeah that's a that's a diamond how big is it well it depends on how close you are to it that's a sardic stone that's a sapphire and then how big is it you don't see i'm saying the va you get to heaven and guess what a foundation 12 tall may that even enter your mind the closest thing we have to it is the understanding of treasures on earth or treasures in heaven here's the thing as little as my mind is as incapable as it is to truly comprehend and grasp the reality of heaven i'm here to tell you anything on earth is going to be a whole lot less than anything there and if you spit if you give to the things of this earth if you give to the wealth and the things trying to become somebody on planet earth you need to know something you're already disappointed you are already going to be mad and been out of shape you're going to be sore so tore up you don't know what to think why because one moment in the presence of god with streets of gold and gates of pearls and walls of jasper and all the other pretty beautiful things and jesus in the midst of it one second in that place is going to overshadow anything that you've had to sacrifice and give here on planet earth it's going to be it's going to so overshadow it i'm convinced that when the writer penned the words about what was going to happen in heaven that he stood their mouth the gate going i don't even know how to put this down pastor i thought we were talking about giving we are listen to me when you give up time when you give of offering and tithe and talent and treasure and things when you invest in those around you understand something friend it has eternal benefits some of us want to to be blessed on earth so that we can show blessings in heaven and so we we judge what we do on earth based on how we comprehend things on earth somebody's about to get a revelation right here because you cannot understand heaven what if you were to simply give as if it were heaven i don't understand giving i don't understand the things out there therefore i'm just going to give open-ended just get i'm just going to do i'm just going to give him my life i'm going to give him my kids i'm going to give him my talent i'm going to give of what i i'm not going to hold back i'm not going to begrudge it i'm not going to get mad if somebody asked me i'm just going to believe as much as i want to go to heaven and i don't want to go to hell i'm going to trust god that i'm not putting a number value on it because you're not putting a number of value on it i'm not going to put a time invested in it because you're not what i'm going to do is say lord until then i will give i will give of who i am what i have what i become listen friend there's a reason that the wise god there's no greater joy than to see your children living for god why because then you know the investment works you know that the investment worked there are no greater days in my life than when i baptize my children when they receive the holy ghost and i knew i stood up and gave the devil a black guy they are going to heaven now now we know if every one of us in it yeah but you don't know the lives they'll leave you know what i'm gonna say that's not the point the point is i'm giving to things that are heavenly all of every one of us in here could become very frustrated because of what we think we deserve on earth i should have that jobber i should get that bonus or i should get that raise or i should have this and the whole time is everything you get is from god and if you get heartache pain trials and tribulations guess what not all of those come from the enemy some of those you baked your own cake oh i'm watching my clock here in in our lessons that we are covering about giving we've got to understand something your time on planet earth is so short i mean even if you get to live out your your your 70 years even if you get to go past and to you know folk today are living to be 100 105 110 you know i i don't know i off wonder what would i be like at 110 i'd be mad all right i'll just be mad lord i'll tell you they didn't bring me coffee yet i'd just be mad you know my my brothers and i we talked about if my dad were still alive he'd be 84 83. it'd be so funny to watch him he'd just be mad he'd be bald-headed i know because he didn't have a lot of hair anyway and my mom she gets so she starts laughing about that he would hate so bad to be old but why's that well because he couldn't do everything he did when he was young i said well he'd be alive yeah but he'd be mad alive okay then that's what i'll be just mad here's the point i'm making there's a whole lot of folk in this world that have forgotten the facts their life is but a vapor it's here a moment and it's gone what if what if just what if what you're giving now of who you are what you possess what you've got what if right now it would make eternal difference in somebody's life it would make and you knew that it was making an eternal difference in someone's life would you give more would you if you could see right now that the hundred dollars you gave or the three hours of service time or the whatever your talent that you shared with somebody if you could see with your own eyes the benefits of giving that how would that change the way that you gave it would it matter would you turn and say wow i gave them a hundred dollars and now they're worth 100 million here's the facts brother john would you complete here's the fact when you give to things on earth you are waiting to reap the reward of giving things on earth the guy at the restaurant you give him your order he brings you your food you eat it you enjoy it you pay him done right give give give give give there you go but when it comes to the things of god friend there's a lot of times when you may not see the return because god's math is not the same as yours god's compounded interest just doesn't work the same as yours it's amazing to me that in first generation of humanity there's a man called adam and first generation we read in the gospel of matthew the lineage connects to who there is no way adam knew there's no way he knew but god's plan is so perfect that he would connect from all the way even pausing in there matthew because he was the guy who understood writing right he was the tax collector so he understood the books he he understood excel and numbers and spreadsheets and 13 columns and pencils and carry he got that and so he was the one that said and he go and even says in 14 genera and then 14 gender and 14 generate he knew and adam there's no way that he knew that could be that he's in there ruth i mean i could go on and on of old testament folk they had no way of knowing but yet the investment they were making the writer to the book of hebrews says there is this great cloud of witnesses and he mentioned some names are brought out some of the judges the prophets and so and then there there's no more room and it says and some fire some lions some this witnesses said all i was doing was giving myself to the things of god giving myself to my family giving myself and what possessions i had giving myself giving myself and the lord's saying yeah but what you do changes then so giving guys the reason this is so important to us i've said this multitude of times i say to my discipleship class when i cover stewardship the amount of money you give is not the point the point is is that you give the amount because you have to purpose in your heart so let him give lord i'm gonna be stingy they're gonna call me ebenezer scrooge or lord i purpose in my heart to give everything i can that you'll allow me to my time talent treasure what i possess what i don't my future i give to you why because understanding the power i can't serve god and wealth and things i can't i've got to choose i got to hate one i got to love the other so i'm going to grab a hold of god and i'm going to love him i'm going to serve him i'm going to be close to him i'm going to give the old timer say there ain't no way you could out give god just give there's no way just give realize lord i i do this because it's a joy i give i don't quantified or qualified i just give do i understand tithing yes that's first fruits you better know it it's a tenth first fruits from here god that's yours offering what you want to put an amount on it five percent 50 that's up to you some of you are sitting knee deep in debt because you stop giving to the things of god i don't have to say that give to god that's the best investment you'll make some of you need more time on your calendar good give more to god some of you your health is is failing you good give your health to god give it and watch how he turns things moves things i said it just a moment ago and i'm done some of us have jobs we live in situations that we don't at all deserve agreed truth of the matter is is if you remove the hand of god from your life you may die tomorrow spirit of god is keeping you alive the investment you're making into the kingdom right now is sustaining you this is not a gloom and doom message i'm just simply telling you i don't want to take that into my own hands i i want to be able to know lord everything that i do i'm doing the best i know how i'm giving it to you if i die tomorrow god i'm going to die knowing that i did knowing the testimony of paul does not have to be his only but i fought a good fight i kept faith i finished the course i know that there's laid up for me what i'm looking for stand with me would you this altar is open tonight this is again every wednesday night if you're not noticed yet and you think i'm in a i'm in a rut i am trying to get people used to this altar come on come on this needs to be the best place you know this needs to be the safest place you can come to come on come to this altar we're going to pray together as a church come on don't be afraid of the altar come on it's good for you come on lord now when you come i want you to pray lord help me to give give it what i have give of what i don't have give of what i possess give lord of what you're going to trust into my hand to give come on god i'm going to give you my talent my time come on make it a prayer lord i i choose to do this i'm going to build by giving lord i'm going to build my giving i'm going to give lord my my prayer time to you i'm going to give lord my first breath of the morning to you i want to give the trials and the things that i go through god i give them to you i'm going to give you my family i'm going to give you my wife and my children lord i'm going i'm going to give it to you lord i'm going to trust it into your hands come on somebody you need to make this your prayer get your priorities in an order where god can begin to bless you where god can begin to intervene in your life come on oh jesus i'm sorry lord if i've been holding back but help me i want to get it right lord i want to give to the things of god that's right come on pray come on pray come on pray come on right now somebody tonight you're making a decision and a choice that can change your future or i'm trying to make it on what i've got but lord i'm going to choose right now to give more to you i'm going to choose right now to be faithful lord god to the things of god in the name of jesus come on pray that prayer lord i'm sorry if i'm not doing it right but help me god to get it together lord to get it right lord i want to make kevin my home eternity with you jesus come on somebody pray that prayer if you need to go up next to somebody to help them come on lord help us together to do this help us together lord to build by giving giving of our talents lord to you come on that's right god can bless you he can make a way he can open a door that's right god can do this for you come on put him first in your life in the name of jesus yes lord yes lord yes jesus we trust you with it lord we trust you with it lord we're going to build by giving god you've been good to us lord you've been good to us jesus we see your hand lord all over our lives we know god you are leading us you are guiding us come on pray right now with somebody lord help them to be an encouragement to someone else lord anoint their witness god i pray for them right now anoint their voice lord so they can be a testimony of giving god and what can happen if you'll truly give give with the mind of god in jesus name lord you're worthy of honor and glory everything lord that we possess comes from you and tonight lord we're giving it back to you you're almighty god yes you are you're a holy savior we'll love you for it lord we'll thank you for it lord we'll trust you for it lord we'll believe you for it jesus in your name mighty god lord i'm thankful for our time together tonight in your word i'm thankful lord we can draw closer to you every day i pray lord an anointing would rest upon the church that you would abide with us o god every step we take be the lamp to our feet lord let your word light our pathway i pray for them i pray lord for strength in the church tonight pray encouragement lord to the church tonight i rebuke the doubt and fear that the enemy is trying to plague the church with in the name of jesus by faith we do what we do by faith we believe what we believe by faith in the word of god by the word of testimony lord what you have done and what you're doing in our lives we reach for you in this hour lord let us be the church of the hour i pray for it in jesus name keep your hands upon us lord i plead your blood give us guidance and direction lord the rest of this week we're going to come back this weekend lord loving you serving you bringing joy god excitement expectancy into the house of god trusting you lord for an outpouring powerful demonstration of your spirit when we come back together as the family in the name of jesus i pray right now lord a special prayer i pray for those that are sick lord in battling sickness in the name of jesus i rebuke him in the name of jesus we are healed by your stripes lord there is healing in your stripes i plead the blood of jesus over let doubt and fear be removed and let with
