everybody pray with me right now Lord God we come to this place in our worship time today we are calling on the name of the Lord Jesus believing heavenly father that you have all the power and all the ability Lord to change lives and to move mountains We Gather here today Lord and we sing and we pray and we lift our voices to you we declare your glory in this room right now we go to the word Lord and I One More Time need you take calls from the altar Lord touch lips of clay I make myself available to you let the word of God work today in our lives I pray in the name of Jesus in the name of Jesus we'll honor you and love you Lord thy kingdom come today Lord I will be accomplished thy will be done today in the name of Jesus before you sit down give him a hand clap of Praise everybody come on love the Lord with a hand clap of praise hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah thank you so much to our singers musicians worship leaders prayer warriors our Sunday School staff audio and video Everybody in the parking lot putting water out call everybody that's involved at Cornerstone I love you and I'm so thankful that you invest here at CAC amen I do trust that the Lord is blessing and moving in your life amen seek after God run after him come on find him run after him you can get a hold of him amen man you can be seated if you feel like you need to today give honor to all of you thanks for being out today there's so many wonderful things that we can do with our lives every day you agree I believe all of us have discovered the joys of life and early Sunday morning walk on the beach for an example the waves and perhaps even a cup of coffee in your hand that's that's that's good stuff or maybe an afternoon in the park with your children pushing them on a swing and listening to the laughter the joy of your kids I for one at my age I enjoy the the laughter around the dinner table when my kids come over to the house and I get to spend time with them I also I don't know maybe my family's weird but they like to play board games and and there are times that I literally translate that that's a boring game anyway um but I love to watch them antagonize one another and brother Daniel I get in once in a while just so I can make them mad I don't care I win or lose I just want to watch them blow up that's so fun times that you gather together or even times that you're alone in a state of rest and relaxation if I were to ask you a question right now and I gave you some time to contemplate it question would simply be this what brings you much joy what brings you much joy what would be your response I know that that in my life presently that I am full of great memories from the joyful past I'm full of that kids at Christmas or holiday time my wife and I visiting one of our favorite destinations I remember the time spent as a child around a campfire in my family laughing and connecting and having fun with one another I remember shooting fireworks off and the bottle rocket went under my mom's seat and blew up that was so fun great times that fill my memory banks today how about you you have some good memories some some of you right now for some of you right now I am shaking the dust off of your memory boxes because it has been such a long time since you've went back and remembered the good things of God great times do you recall the good times or have those been so far distant that you no longer allow them to bring smiles to your faces I know that today our wax nostalgic maybe and for a moment the sake of painting this picture in your mind of the times past I want you to know that life doesn't always consist of death and doom and Destruction come on you you can look at the good things and the positive influences that have happened in your life and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that if you took just a few moments that you could recollect bad things just like you could recollect good things I remember for an example sitting in hospital rooms waiting on news that didn't come for a long time wandering my mind just running rampant what happened or waiting for news of a traveling loved one that they get there safely or not my wife is still very very certain to make sure that when somebody leaves our house for their trip home she said now y'all let us know when you get home and I'll contemplate that particular statement because generally she forgets and in the morning she wakes me up and says honey did they text her I will not want to ask them to let us know I didn't mean to know I'm joking it's something about peace of mind that brings the joy of knowing that everybody's safe and everyone is okay I could also for an example renew the moment that a family member died the pain and the sorrow of losing somebody that I care deeply for or also the the moment that my dreams were dashed on rocks of life's choices and mistakes made and I suffered through that sorrow I come today and I stand at this Podium to Simply tell you that life is full we should thank God every day for the blessings of our times in the past we should also strengthen our resolve to know that those times made us who we are today they developed our character and our demeanor and it helps us to make choices today in which you and I can look at the goodness and the blessings of the Lord God and say God has been there in all times we don't want to struggle and we don't want stress and we don't want the trials of life but we have to decide here the preacher today we've got to decide in life circumstances will we allow it to be God to be there for us through those or where we fight against God in those times when we don't understand what's transpiring on this Sunday I feel compelled to spend just a few moments to help us to understand the value of remembering in the book of Exodus there was a command that went forth Exodus chapter number 31 the Bible tells us in verse 12 the Lord spake unto Moses saying Speak thou unto the children of Israel saying verily my sabbaths ye shall keep for it is a sign between me and you throughout your Generations that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you you shall keep the Sabbath therefore for it is Holy unto you everyone that defiled defileth it shall surely be put to death for whosoever doeth any work therein that Soul shall be cut off from among his people notice verse 15. six days may work be done but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest holy to the Lord whosoever doeth any work on the Sabbath day he shall surely be put to death wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath to observe the sabbath throughout their generations for a Perpetual Covenant notice 17 it is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever for in six days the Lord made Heaven and Earth and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed the Sabbath when we read that God gave Moses this particular command concerning the statutes and the actions of his people we all refer to for an example The Ten Commandments has anybody ever heard of those anybody okay does anybody remember whom what was it it was called home interior and you could buy these really really fancy things to hang on the wall with sconces and and pretty and it had the Tim come out all right okay somebody all right look it up then when you get home bring it up in the walls of Congress that's in Commandments okay all right okay y'all with me now these were laws that they must live by they made sense to them and they made sure that the Next Generation understood the value and the power of the law of God God knew listen to this God knew that it would last the test of time because Humanity needed a guide Humanity needed Direction and influence guidelines Hedges if you will this command we understand that it was the hand of God that was saying to the people of God I'm going to be your God you're going to be my people but there are laws that you have to follow specifically we have the reference of how the actions of God would connect us to him follow this God Worked six days everybody say six in six days he created all things now if you're a Bible Theologian you can decide if it was one day is a thousand years a thousand years as one you can decide if he literally 24 hours paying remember they didn't have clocks then it's okay God's not in your time frame anyway you can determine in this in another self you know what there's a son up there's a Sundown there's God there's this and that you can make it all technical if you want to but I declare to you that if God wanted to do it in the blink of the eye he could have but instead we have the reference that Moses wrote about the creation of all things and in six days God put it all together understand the Bible tells us though that when that was finished he rested on the seventh day there was no need to work any longer the only thing required at that point was to turn around and look back at what had been accomplished because on that Sabbath on that seventh if you will that time to remember it had to be established by God so that Humanity would understand the principle of him a law that if you did not adhere to it what was going to happen you would be put to death now I don't know about you but if I'm going to die if I don't do something guess what I'm going to do something I'm going to follow the plan of God I'm only bringing this teaching to us today as a reminder of the values that we receive in the word of God somebody say the Bible I would dare say that much of our anguish and our Trials Come to Us in 2022 simply because we fail to remind ourselves of the benefits and the blessings of serving the lord we feel our daily calendars with so much activity for some of us we think that if we stay in bed all day we're resting now you might sleep but the real rest doesn't come until you can settle in your mind the blessings and the benefits that God has already given you many sleepless nights are a direct reflection of bad choices you made in life come on in our day we can all be busy with work and play and pleasure and anything else we can waste time or we can invest our time I stand here today to implore you and simply ask you to re-look at your time every single day and to recognize the fact that if you don't stop and turn around and give thanks for the good things that God's done in your life for The Good the Bad and the Ugly then you're going to stand there one day and wonder why did life pass me by and I was an old grump come on you can always find something to be mad about but if you're gonna find something to be glad about you better look for it and realize from whom it comes there's listen to Pastor for a moment there's a whole lot of stuff in our world today that will discourage you distract you and drive you into the ground I refuse to be led by that negativism I refuse to allow the things of this world to distract me from what God's doing in my life when I open my eyes in the morning I know God's God when I put my feet on the floor I recognize one more day he allowed me to live I know that at the end of the day when I lay my head on the pillow and I breathe that last breath that I can recall if you will that God has been with me every step that I took that day in the good bad and the mistakes that I made some of us today we can't stop and look backwards because of all the stuff that we've put in our path and we wonder why we're always unhappy uneasy can't find peace don't allow the joy of the memories of what God has done in our lives to allow us to have the strength that we need listen to Pastor a minute there are so many things today that will simply steal your focus distractions and ideas that have very little Merit yet we fervously follow these things it's called money it's called status it's called items that you want to buy it's called Fame Fortune it's called whatever you want to call it because that's what our society tells you is success I've come today to tell you that in all the things that God has blessed me with in my life very very very very very few of them have any monetary value just this past week or so I was talking to my mother I was at her house and lo and behold she brings me a packet of stuff I was going through my trunks in there and I found this stuff and I just don't want to throw it out I want you to have it and every time that happens and my lovely wife was with me she does that one she goes you know what that means he's going to get an arm load of stuff and take it home and have to find something to do with him but what do you do with all that stuff so it wasn't a plate it wasn't a spoon it wasn't a a car jack it wasn't a valve stem off of a car tire anything like that you know all the special things I mean y'all laughing but some of y'all's garage is full of that stuff oh Lord I just said that I didn't mean to say it that way evidently it's got value but she handed me some paperwork she said I want you to read these letters and there were letters about my namesake my dad's brother died two years before I was born his name was Raymond he was hit by a drunk driver walking down the side of the road a car came hit him never stopped kept going killed him they found him laying in a ditch it was after him that I was named my mom said I can't believe I found these letters but I want you to have them there were two letters there sister Renee one was from the chaplain on the military base in which he was stationed at the time reporting to his parents I wanted you to know this is what happened and I am so sorry one of them was from another colleague that he had on the job he was in the Air Force wrote the same kind of letter and sent it to his parents now you asked me this question Pastor how much value do those letters have it's a piece of paper that is 50 almost 60 years old how much value is on those pieces of paper not a whole lot according to you but I'll come to tell you when I look at those there's an entire story that unfolds and I thank the Lord God that I have parents that love Jesus and they brought me to an altar and all because of what happened to my uncle who I never even knew I'm here to tell somebody today that is part of my heritage then mom makes a mistake I'll finish this story and she says well come look in this trunk there may be something else you want so I got up and I went into there and in her bedroom she got this Genesis got stuff all in this thing I said mom why are you going through this stuff she's in her mid-80s now she said well I want to make sure that I know where it goes before I lose my brain all right Mom so we we open this trunk up and it's just chock full of things majority of it's from my dad my dad's been gone now for 35 years died as a Young Man mom said I kept these things and it's his military stuff it's some medals that he had it's some military things that were in there mom said I don't know you may not want this stuff and I began to peruse through these things and man my mind just shot back to history growing up with my dad one was his cap that he wore he was a load master in the Air Force I'm like man yeah I'll take that Mom there were some medals in there there was something I'm telling you all this story for a reason because those little things that have no value any yard sale that would come I know that stuff will be loaded in a box and taken to Goodwill because nobody would purchase it but it made me who I am today when I look back at the good things of God in my life I know that there is a reason that my wife and I love one another is because we have memory banks full of the goodness of the Lord have we had all good days no have we had some trials yes have we had something I'm telling you the majority of our issues and I'm just going to be honest with you is that all right at church to be honest okay I'm not going to lie to you some people say I'm gonna call it the problem many times between she and I only comes because of our selfishness and pride if we learn to push those things away we can work through any situation any married couples know what I'm talking about it's okay to identify come on it's all right it just means that there's things happening in your life you better know sometimes you don't need to agree with somebody you need to discuss it but then come to an agreement that it's okay I'm I'm pastoring for just a moment here today I want you all to understand something that in the activities of life everything comes from the hand of the Lord and he can take care of you in all of life situations notice that when we look at Exodus he's telling them to keep a Sabbath he's telling them to remember a time when they stop and they look backwards and they recall where God has brought them from even from that past week it was so stringent that if they were to ever defile it they they stood the chance of dying that's how determined that God was that Humanity needs a break when you have when you grow when you mature you find out for an example you get over into the New Testament you find letters written by the hand of Paul and Paul's trying to help the churches and he's trying to admonish them and in so many ways helping them to grow and to to develop their daily walk and to interact with one another and to to give and to receive and to grow and to learn in every point that Paul specifically mentions to them he tells them I want you to know that living christ-like is such a vital part of your your walk and the Very vital part of who you are as a people I want you to notice in the second letter he wrote to Corinth in second Corinthians chapter 10. verse number one now I Paul y'all follow along here myself beseech you by the meekness and the gentleness of Christ who in presence embase among you but being absent and bold towards you but I beseech you that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence wherewith I think I think to be bold against some which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh verse 3 for though we We Walk In the Flesh we do not war after the flesh for the weapons of our Warfare are not carnal But Mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds verse 5 says this casting down imaginations and every High thing that exaltates itself against the knowledge of God listen to this and bringing into captivity every thought to The Obedience of Christ and having in a Readiness to Revenge all Disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled Paul is writing to the church and he wants them to understand something about the power of the changed life he admonishes them to realize and recognize that they indeed walk in flesh is there anybody in here walking only in spirit no we we walk in flesh I thank you all today for coming to church in the flesh dressed look at your neighbor and say you look good come on we drag this flesh around everywhere we go don't we we pick it up we lay it down we wash it well we cleanse it well we're supposed to wash it and clean it and take care of it amen but he's talking to the church there at Corinth and he's telling them you need to understand something that there is a grip that the flesh can get a hold of things in the flesh and that when you go to war there is a spiritual battle that is unfolding and if you understand that there is something that you've got to do recognize the hand of God is working in your life and you are making choices every day and decisions that are going to direct your path if you do not take time to allow the warring in your flesh to overtake the warring in your spirit your flesh is going to battle all the time you'll be exhausted tired beat up you'll you'll hate things things that Joy will be gone but if you'll allow your spirit man to grow and to thrive you'll be able to stand Even In the Flesh in the midst of opposition and say I stand in Christ Jesus because there are strongholds we even understand that there are grips that can have their their connection to people but you and I have to realize that if you walk after the flesh you mind the things of the flesh the Warfare that goes on is a spiritual battle that's happening I come today to tell you this the reason that the trials and the tests happen is because we're not casting down vain imaginations we know they war against God but our minds get the best of us so many times and this is what Paul tells the church bring into captivity every thought bring into captivity to Captivate your thought now that word by definition captive is listen to this held under control of another but having the appearance of Independence oh I looked into this phrase a little bit and I discovered that in order to Captivate our thoughts we have to physically spiritually mentally emotionally and in every facet we have to look at what our mind is thinking and going after and we have to allow them to be captivated and put into their proper perspective let me ask you a question has anybody here ever used that verse there is no weapon formed against me that will prosper that's a Bible verse anybody you may know that and sometimes we we use that and we don't really understand what it means because we're many times defeated in ourselves because we've allowed our thoughts and our imaginations to get the best of us and the woe is me and the Y is me and the dread of everything that's going on here in life begins to overwhelm you and the fact of the matter is if you'll simply back up and regroup and remember God's never left you he's never forsaken you he's never run away from you he's been God all the time he'll be God tomorrow he'll be God whether you're here or not the fact of the matter is this our thoughts and our imaginations can get the best of us and you can come into the house of God On Any Given Sunday and if you allow your thoughts to get the best of you you can stand in the glory of God and melt at the fear of the enemy that he puts in you some of you will come to an altar even he will drag every one of those vain imaginations with you and you'll stand at an altar and you're obey hear me hear the pastor I'm going to Pastor you for a minute lift your hands Lord I love you and I yeah I'm sorry I messed that up but Lord I you're good and yeah you're yeah and within moments the distraction of who's around you will begin to overtake you and you'll notice somebody else besides you is louder and they're not even talking about you but they're distracting you and so then you hope and pray that somebody doesn't come to you and pray for you that they go to them hang on a pastor a moment because some of us mistake the power in the presence of God by a tear or emotion come on I watched it earlier today in the service some of you the Lord was speaking to you and so because you're you're sensitive to God you got out of your chair and you go over and you pray for them I mean that is a powerful activity there's a powerful action when somebody goes over and prays for you or or believes god with you how many likes to be prayed for I mean I'm glad when somebody prays for me aren't you not glad when they pray for me but for you I had to clarify that but listen to me whether you ever put your hand on my forehead and pray for me or whether you ever come up and grab a hold of me it will not change the fact that God is still God in my life and I have to Captivate the doubt and the fear and I got to put it into his proper perspective and I am responsible for that there ain't nobody can tell me come on believe God for come on trust God for it no and nobody can tell me that I've got to put that in here and let it get here so therefore I can stand and I can say I take you negative thought captive I gotta and you're not about to rule my life I refuse to allow you to be the one that puts a smile on my face up to you're not getting loose from me I've got you here that is a strong determination that you don't let everything just flop into your brain and melt and flop around in there and cause you to be distracted instead you take them captive you get them in a headlock if you will you know what it's going to take for those thoughts and those imaginations and those things come on some of you right now at this moment while I'm speaking you are battling something in your mind because you can't get past it you can't put your hand around that and therefore you just back away from it and it's sitting there beating you up this whole time and you're saying if I could just get that thought out of my mind if I could remove that memory that's things a sin that I did in my if I could get rid of that stuff I think that I could be Victorious and the fact of the matter is you have yet to grab a hold of it I'm here today to declare to somebody in this room today is the moment when you need to take captive those thoughts and you need to decide in the name of Jesus I refuse to allow that to decide my fate and my future I am going to be a child of God because the blood of Jesus has been applied to My Life by the word the name of Jesus Is On My Life by the word I'm full of the Holy Ghost by the word the promise of his spirit is in my life by his word his word has become fruitful in my life I realize that I can make mistakes yes I can falter yes I can but I know also the power of captivating my thoughts devil you're not about to steal my joy devil you're not about to steal my victory I Captivate you I know that you can get loose if I just simply let you go then my mind will be beat up and I can I can look at everybody negative and bad it'll allow my spirit to get on the ground some of you walking here with such a Sour Puss on your face God couldn't bless you if he wanted to come on you I'm looking at every one of you Pastor being too honest thank you I would much rather be honest and offend the snot out of you than let you go to hell you listen to me it's time for you to Captivate the thoughts come on when all that stuff and all that evil and all that junk starts to go you captivated in the name of Jesus I refuse to believe you you know what I am going to do though I'm going to Captivate this bad thought and I'm going to hold it and I'm going to hold it at Bay and I'm going to begin to remember the goodness of the Lord I remember when my wife had a stroke but the hand of God came and touched her and raised her up I refused to follow this but instead I'm going to give glory to God for what he did for her I remember the time that I should have died in a car accident but I didn't the hand of God was on my life now I'm not letting you loose here I'm going to Captivate you and put you where you need to be I'm going to rejoice in the Lord I'm gonna think of the goodness of God I'm going to remember the joy of the Lord and they will be strength in my life I refuse to let the thoughts in the vanity of life to distract me thank you come on Church it is time to live a Victorious Life over the things of the life that you have lived they don't have to Define you get a hold of them Captivate them Paul was telling the church listen the greatest issue in our day listen to me very carefully please 2022. is we're afraid to Captivate Our Lives and the junk that we've been exposed to and the enemy's running Ram shot over us our past is haunting us when the life changed that we've had by the power of the word of God should establish us to see Look What the Lord Has Done he healed my body he touched my mind he saved me he might remember that old song come on that's an old song I'm gonna praise His name he's every day the same come on help me Praise Him Look What the Lord Has Done and I'm going to Captivate all the negativity and all the junk come on somebody need to help Pastor for a moment there's stuff that you're going through in your life and you can't get a hold of it because you refuse to hold it captive instead you're allowing it to hold you captive if the Lord Jesus were to walk in this room physically right now in body and come up and stand next to you and simply breathe in your ear what are you worshiping me for what would you say knowing he's standing right there and he knows everything that he's done for you in your life what would be your first account some of us would be so bold as to say thank you Lord for all the stuff that I have some of us might even be ignorant enough to say well it's because Lord you've been good to me with a good house and a and a car that's got gas in it come on y'all y'all y'all looking at me saying oh no no yeah you would too because you say it every day in your life you leave God out of so many things in your life and the Devil comes and he just flops around in your brain in your mind and all the evil and all the things of the world I'm telling you in the Holy Ghost if you'll Captivate those things take captivity those thoughts and say no they are not going to rule me but I'm going to hold them to their account you know what I once was lost but now I'm found I once was blind but now brother John would you come please I I had all this stuff that that I've come through in my life and I have the mistakes and all the failures and all the faults that I've come to I've come to realize that so many times when I get to the altar I'm dragging with me all of the stuff and when I get here I can't even make a sacrifice of all of that stuff because I can't Captivate it but Tim if I got a hold of all this junk guess what I'm going to do with it when I get to the altar Lord who you've been good to me see if I did this and Let It Go it'd be all over me and I'd say oh oh whoa with me I'll always fall wait a minute when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all he's done for me my soul cries out you're not getting this praise you're not I'm holding you captive now doubt fear question sin all the stuff of the past and you turn loose of it to raise your hands and here it comes back again I challenge you today in this room it is 1 21 in the afternoon you Captivate all that junk in your life you bring it to an altar and you declare I will leave it here it's not coming back with me I'll not entertain in a moment longer but I'm going to rise from this altar it's going to die on that altar I'm going to give praise to God and when I leave this house I'm going out victorious in the name of Jesus then I can say no weapon formed against me will prosper why because I have captivated the things in my life that are trying to destroy me so many times so many times we don't take time to remember the good things of God I say this often go ahead and play something brother John give them some false hope um I say often you know when I'm in my worst worst moment I begin to consider other people's lives you know I know I've told you all this before a bunch of years ago my wife and I were youth leaders at a church young people were so how many you all know young folk can complain how many you know those young folks that complain grow up to be parents that complain I'm just saying I don't know there was 25 or 30 of these teenagers how come we don't yeah I got you know look you gotta have it look you got to talk this way when you're negative and when you're smiling it's hard to talk that way right they was upset about one thing and another and we had about an hour for Sunday school back in the day when we could hold attention now it's 30 minutes and doing the best we can I didn't just say that did I so we come to Sunday school on a Sunday morning 10 a.m Sunday school started I had the church van sitting there in front of the Sunday school class all right guys come on we're on a field trip getting in the van here they come we're probably gonna go get a biscuit or something don't it right that's where we're going right man these kids they were all excited climbed up just packed in this 15 passenger van I took off guess where I took them took him to the hospital I did we got to the hospital I pulled up and I said all right guys get out they got out and they're looking at me we're at the hospital I said come on follow me we here we go push the button on the elevator third floor maternity ward we walk down there and there's all these itty bitties Sunday School they're all like you you 'd be and all the guys were like yeah that's pretty cool you know the girls are all ooey gooey and stuff and they're looking at these babies sister Renee's little guys man Life's good I mean how many enjoy watching the new baby that's so cool until they come out crying then you May notice there's no instructions anyway sorry you're like There's No Label we spent about 10 minutes in there they got to see all these babies sorry guys load them up let's go brother ain't what you doing come on we got somewhere else to go we got to get back for church got out in the van loaded up here we go around the corner from the hospital was Cemetery so I pulled in I said get out Park shut it off I climbed out and I said now you got five minutes to walk in the cemetery I said ooh it's a walk and there's kind of looking at me so I started walking they will care I mean what's this number minus that number that was 71 when he died how cool was that hey look here this that's me he was 62. hey guys how old was this one two days and they're all standing there looking at me I said I thought y'all were enjoying this trip look there's one right there 12 years old that guy right there was 17. and now they're standing there I said what happened so you liked it when it was all Ooey and gooey with the babies but it sure is that is as sure as this here's the question what do you do with the space between they climbed off that van herb that day and we walked in the sanctuary I want you to know every one of those children those teenagers walk to the altar God I'm I don't know how long you've given me here and I'm so thankful a perspective changed because you can look at all the stuff that comes in your life but if you let the enemy drive that and it holds you captive it'll beat you to death you take that into captivity no thoughts you're not going to do that evil thing no I repented of you you are not going to mold me and make me I'm holding you you're not going to do it and when I get up in the morning and I go to my Altar and I pray I'm going to lay it down there and I'm going to say you stop and you sit right there I've come to Worship the Lord God I don't want to hear from you I don't want to see the negative I don't want to believe any of that I've come to love Jesus how do you have anything to love the Lord you better believe it I've got breath in my body I've got the ability to walk I've got the ability to eat the ability to think the ability to talk the ability to smell I'm thankful for every single thing the Lord God has done in my life I am convinced today that if we don't learn how to hold it captive it is going to choke you out and snuff out your joy and the strength that you need cannot come because the joy of the Lord is what gives you I want to challenge every one of you right now to stand with me all over this room captive you you knocked down those vain imaginations all that stuff that's trying to formulate itself in your mind and say you get rid of that stuff and you do that by
