Doctrine: Giving

you got your Bibles we're gonna need them tonight as we go to the word of the Lord We are continuing our monthly study during the month of of September we are still on accelerate that's our yearly theme everybody say it with me take your foot off the break hit the gas got to move forward in Jesus amen and each month of course we cover a different topic and this month we are talking Doctrine we accelerate by understanding our Doctrine rising up in understanding who we are and what we do and what we believe feel free to take notes if you want to if you have questions write them down and go find answers for them um we'll continue Apostolic Doctrine how many are thankful for teaching teaching are you understand what I'm saying there's a difference between preaching and teaching there's also teaching um it'll do a whole lot of things for you Jesus had 40 days um after he came out of the grave the Bible says in that 40 days he showed them many infallible proofs we weren't there much of what was written about probably does not include those infallible proofs but suffice it to say what Jesus was doing was he was preparing his followers for what was to come now question um let's see let me ask him brother herb since you're picking on me tonight I'm gonna pick on you how long have you and your wife been married do we need to verify yeah eight 18 years do you remember at three and a half years of marriage did you know everything about your wife everything why are you shaking your head no Jesus had three three plus years of ministry with his disciples that's what we have record of correct there's no way that they could know and understand all things my wife and I are nearing 40 years and we've got a few to make it but we're 36 plus and there's things that she still compliments me on because she didn't learn early in our marriage that I had those skills I was holding out Logan I was holding I didn't want to know all that I know what a vacuum I know how to work that huh see but but when when we get to the scriptures what Jesus taught what he instructed his followers to do you guys got to understand something although these guys could not see what was about to transpire or what would even happen hundreds and hundreds of years later Jesus knew and he knew that if he did not make an impact on them with the time that he had there was no way that they would stand all the persecution all the things that was to come understand that so Jesus poured himself into these guys and the way he treated others they watched the way he interacted with other people they noticed him how he came in how he went out of other people Sinners publicans scribes Pharisees it didn't matter Jesus spent time with people Jesus came to instruct he came to teach those who would listen we we have a lot of indication in the New Testament that Jesus would spend a lot of time focusing on multitudes of people you know I have there's probably 60 or so in here tonight I have a hard time keeping all of y'all's attention my juggling has gotten worse and so part of that show and the hat I lost imagine 5 10 15 000 people for days listening with no PA system with no food trucks oh I'm gonna help I'm gonna hurt somebody with no coffee shop nearby hmm the whole food the whole Fellowship just fell apart and they would hang on his every word understand please Jesus knew what he was doing as we have understood in this particular series Holiness matters to the Lord he wants you to be holy again definition of holiness a direct reflection of your relationship with God it will change it will alter as you get nearer to him his reflection will be brighter and brighter is that okay Holiness says I want to be christ-like Holiness says I want to live a life that is pleasing to him he knew that Holiness was what was going to separate Humanity and so he poured into them then we have all kind of teaching and letters that were written to the churches to help us to better understand this we've discovered uh first of all that first session if you all remember Holiness what's wrong with Holiness somebody say nothing being holy in this day and age is the best safest thing you'll ever hear me now it's the best and safest thing that you'll ever be mom and dad do not be afraid to teach your children to dress holy look holy and be holy don't be afraid of that come on you're not going to stamp their growth you're not going to stymie them you're not going to make them feel like they're inferior to others no last week we talked about how we present ourselves in our dress in our actions in the deeds and the motives how many know that motives matter you understand motives matter also last week I made sure that everybody here understood my wife and I are not the fashion police we're not the Holiness police we're not the praying police the fasting police it's not us we don't care a yardstick around and beat you up with it if your sleeves are this or that or you've got toenail polish on or fingernail now it's a condition of your heart what I want to teach you is to love God and in doing so the Lord will help you to grow and he'll help you make decisions come on you won't get teaching on Holiness at some Public School you can't log online and find somebody to help you with Holiness but without it you won't see him understand I know in our 2023 culture this might not seem to be a very good topic but I'll tell you what I get may I be transparent for just a moment at 7 30 on a Wednesday night I get exhausted as a pastor trying to help people get out of their messes if they would Embrace Holiness I'm convinced there'd be less messes I miss telling you the only guy I don't know who's what's going to give us okay tonight we're tonight we're going to continue on another topic of Doctrine Apostolic Doctrine the doctrine of giving to the things of God this is Biblical teaching that all right giving to the things of God now at this moment some of you tightened up your ears begin to close a smidge because when somebody talks about giving the first thing you run to is what money oh he's gonna want me to give my uh-huh yeah he's one of them Prosperity guy wanting to give all the money yeah that's what he's doing does it look like that's what I'm doing come on you know I found out the other day Logan there's a car out there that's 220 thousand dollars I tried to bring it to parking lot tonight but since I don't have one I can't you understand you understand what I'm saying what I am going to tell you is this if you'll understand the doctrine of giving not just money time Talent treasure testimony among who you are give of yourselves come on we're gonna I want to help somebody tonight get past some phobias get past some myths that the enemy has been throwing at you for such a long time keeping you from the Miracle of Life to give that is by definition for those who are websterites to surrender possession and authority over something to release something I give this to you has anybody ever been given something once tell me something that somebody gave you Israel come on man oh what a punch in the nose okay okay no how about how about you Bella but she went there I'm such an astute person they gave me books I read them hello something out brother Roger what's something somebody's giving you thank you y'all want to know don't you what kind of candy oh that's the will of God right there giving to somebody something means I will give this to you the Snickers bar just Tammy can you have it okay you got to ask right you know I'm in trouble now if he takes a bite out of it am I okay to ask for it back no take back why not because what I released it stay with me y'all hang on to me for a little while tonight giving is a fundamental action and attitude of humanity we have in our midst tonight a star we do y'all didn't know this did you we have in our midst tonight a celebrity thanks Pierce oh stop it you'll spoil the guy the reason I'm asking about or bringing Pierce into the topic tonight let me ask you something Dakota have you given that child anything what else come on you got a list go keep going what keep going come on help him out Christian what have you given him uh you don't give you don't give him anything oh first of all he owes me rents well they just fell all apart all right I'm not gonna ask y'all well hang on we all understand it because that's what babies do now here's the question you ready for it Dakota what has he given to you stop because everything he's about to say is emotion feeling listen to me a connection that neither one of y'all paid for nor bought this is the coolest thing I tell every new parent this is one of the most coolest things about Parenthood y'all if I'm lying right now you tell me a baby comes along nine months you walk around they're female does and the husband tries to do his best to console and go get to tacos with M M's whatever huh and this baby is born and the moment being that you put eyes on that child you would die for that child how is that but that's the truth isn't it are you with me okay giving is an action of humanity that baby needs food that baby needs taken care of your children need taken care of husbands wives families grandparents Humanity understands the act of giving we learn it at an early age that giving and receiving is part of living we agree sharing providing they are the basic part of relationships now is anybody here in a relationship Logan I have a question Whitney said she's in a relationship is it with you okay all right this session we have after church with herb you probably need to join okay hang on to me what is in that relationship keep going come on okay all of those are things in a relationship stop is that the only thing that she you've given her she's given you what else you know keep going cup of coffee a donut your favorite dessert time off come on she's got a list she's like remind him remind him remind him it went from emotion it went from the feeling and it went to something to where now that relationship trades things it's okay hang on tonight we're talking the doctrine of giving to the things of God kids learn the power of giving and taking do they not what's the first word of baby learns mine and then Dad and my grandbaby will learn poppy first but anyway parents learn the value of giving to those that are around them you give to co-workers you give to friends when you give something to someone do you expect something in return sure you do sometimes I'm going to give you this hard time right now I expect a punch in the nose tomorrow that's not what we do right but sometimes hang on to me sometimes even in the deepest of relationships we give with expectation uh you don't believe that watch watch this Christmas season you're gonna you're gonna choose something to give to the person you love and you're going to spend time Talent energy and effort to purchase it and to get it for them and you're going to fabricate this whole thing in your mind of how they're going to respond and then on that wonderful morning they're going to open and go good and walk away you're going to go anybody know what I'm talking about you were expecting a response you know I mean if you don't if you don't want it you know this whole attitude comes out come on all right if that one doesn't apply to you how about yard sales somebody you know has a yard sale you make a mistake and go hey didn't I buy that for you last Christmas don't say that come on sometimes we learn as humans giving cost a boyfriend gives to a girlfriend a girlfriend gives to a boyfriend that's okay we learned that in a relationship you learn the value of giving and you learn that if somebody takes the time to want to give you something then you should appreciate it tell them thank you let them know that you're glad now hang on to me just a moment when it comes to the things of God those lessons that he gives to us he wants us to change our lives anybody here thankful for the grace of God huh what is the grace of God in your life come on be definition what is the definition of grace you don't deserve but he gives it ain't really right for you to have but he gives in your relationship with God you understand that when it comes to the things of God the Bible is chocked full of lessons that we need to learn about giving to God because he gives to us some of us have become very very fluent in speaking receiving and not so fluent in speaking giving Genesis chapter 4 tells us a story let's all the way back to the book of Beginnings Genesis chapter 4 tells us a story this story is about two brothers I'm not going to read it but you guys know the story the one guy's name is Abel he had a brother named Kane you may remember the story what did they do in order for them to stand and look at one another what were they trying to do genesis 4 tells us this they brought the Bible says a sacrifice to the Lord they were giving to the Lord now what they were giving came from the labor of their hands God had already given it to them fruits and lamb right we learned that from the very beginning that that was God's pleasure was to allow Humanity to understand giving is good we know that Cain for an example in that story was driven to a place that he was he was Roth the Bible says his countenance change all because of giving he was mad he was upset and he rose up and did what killed who he killed because of giving God accepted the one gift the sacrifice but God denied the other gift why because God required a particular type of sacrifice now you and I today allow me to be very very pertinent to 2023. they nobody in this church and nobody watches online that wants to be denied from the blessings of God in fact we think just because we stand upright we deserve everything God has for us if you really believed that then you would actually believe that you also deserve the Judgment of God and there's nobody that wants that so you have to settle in your heart in your mind when it comes to the things of God I better understand and know what pleases him because if I know what pleases him and I know what he is looking for then I will do everything that I can to give that to him giving has always been a part of relationship between God and man always always when it came to the Tabernacle when they had to bring sacrifice why did they have to do that doesn't make much sense to me you have a trespass you have a sin you have touched blood you've touched a dead body you've touched a dead animal you've had your time of the month this is to happen with your childbirth whatever it was and you had to bring a sacrifice and then you had to trust listen to me that it would be accepted by God a gift to God listen to me if you were to Simply expect if I can with 2023 mentality well here it's the best I got God and it's a three-legged Lamb with hives and and Burrs all in its hair and the Lord will just have to accept it you know in the Old Testament no God would have said that's not mine it is not your best gift I deny it and I will not accept it and if God ever did not accept the sacrifice for your transgression for your sin for whatever you did against the law you my friend were excommunicated from the community listen to me question 2023 you ready question what can you bring to God that he does not already possess what can you bring to God that he does not already possess money time stuff things come on there is nothing let me ask you this what gift could you give to God that he would say why man I've never seen one of those and you're giving it to me come on what gift could you give to God that he would say and show all the look what I got I know this is basic but listen to me the things of God are very right and if he already possesses all things and he already has seen all things and made all things and by him or things that are made there's nothing that was made without him we understand that right then the principle that we need to know is that giving to the Lord anything of that matters or that has quality or quantity God is not looking at what you gave him he is looking at your attitude towards giving it it's a matter of learning and obeying the things of God that he has taught you through his word it does not matter what it is does not matter how large or small or how how fragile it is what God wants to know is are you bringing him your best have you thought through what you just gave him what is important is the purpose and the reason for giving you understand that that for now again thinking I'm gonna pick on the new couple with the family over here they're trying so hard look everybody understands Pastor right the babies in the church that I Pastor I don't hold them until they dedicate them and they let me dedicate that's just been what I've done since I've pastored now that did not apply to my granddaughter because I'm not her pastor I'm her green baby when that couple mom and dad decide to bring that baby to the Lord is there anything more precious in their eyes that they could give to God do you understand then the value of that to God and because again because they decide to dedicate that child to the Lord they can expect that God will receive and God will take possession of that child I don't mind telling you I have prayed multiple times for over my children when they were little when I dedicated them and we brought them to our pastor and through their life I prayed for them and prayed for them do you know what I was doing I was reiterating the fat God I gave them to you they are yours help Lord in this moment in my life in their life what we have to learn and understand is the act of giving Cain and Abel even when when Moses wrote that book the only way that he could describe it was his countenance to fail it changed something about his actions changed it even dictates in that particular moment something is wrong with your attitude in fact he says the Lion's at the door I'm going to give you an opportunity if he didn't go past that he could have rectified his offering the act of the giving was for the wrong reason the Bible says he was Wrath he was angry and in so doing how did he respond he could not kill God but he could kill what God accepted it might very well be tonight that you're in need of a lot of things but in your jealousy pride and arrogance God cannot accept what you've given because your act of giving is wrong the Bible even says New Testament teaching you bring a sacrifice and you've got something wrong with somebody what does it say about that sacrifice says what and do what wait a minute shouldn't you take that sacrifice back with you no leave it there the act of giving has started but because you have ought with your brother God's saying I I'm it's going to sit here's here I'm still good on time we okay I really believe that if we understood the power of the act of giving then with joy we would do everything that we could give do to give our very best unto the Lord God needs nothing but he wants everything he wants your time he wants your talent he wants your treasure and he wants your testimony God wants all of us not just to worship so many times we have our greatest problems and issues in our personal lives is when we hold back from giving to God and that's his bottom line as it can be perhaps that will be the downfall of humanity listen to me the Bible specifically tells us that we were made in the image of god listen carefully and because we are made in His image we see him for who he is in our eyes we perceive him and we see that he is the God of All Things agreed his position and power they are unwavering we get the positions mixed up sometimes when we listen to the lies of the enemy and instead of understanding that God is all things and we Are Made In His Image sometimes are sinful lifestyle or bad choices and decision will cause us to 180 and now we want to be the image that was the biggest fight in heaven when God said Lucifer you're not going to do it what was he wanting he was wanting to be God to get all of the praise and all the gifts and God said ain't gonna happen and I'm not only going to throw you out but anybody that's followed after you I'm willing to lose a third why because the ACT changed positions hang on to me a moment when we get that we understand the Bible tells us that he's a jealous God what's that mean I don't mean that he oh man I wish I had them worshiping me man this ain't no good they only want that you know what I'm gonna listen now I'm jealous I just no that's not what it means it means that he is securing him and he says to his creation you either do it this way or I've prepared a place for you as well I give you a way to get to me and I won't have any other gods in front of me I'm not gonna have any other Idols any other stuff in front of me I am a jealous God I know who I am and I know the plan that I put into motion I will not contend for that look at Luke is this okay if we bring the Bible in tonight Luke chapter 6 verse 17. I'll give the guys in the back a moment Luke chapter 6 verse 17 through 19. sorry guys he came down with them and stood in the plane and the company of his disciples the great multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem and from the Seacoast of Tire sidon which came to hear him listen to this and to be healed of their diseases Verse 18 and they that were vexed with unclean spirits and they were healed 19 and the whole multitude sought to touch him for there went virtue out of him what's it say and he healed them all all of them he healed them Jesus is faced with questions if you take time and you write this particular Story down and you go backwards in the scripture from verse 17 back Jesus is answering questions and it's all concerning the law of Moses it's all concerning how the Sabbath comes on into play whether or not they're able to eat corn or whatever on the Sabbath whether they're able to to pick up things on the Sabbath whether the law was being fulfilled and Jesus is is looking they're walking through this corn field and they're picking ears of corn and the Bible said with their hands there leaving him and the religious folk of the day all they want to do is ask him questions the Bible says that when the sick and the vexed and the spirit when those things and the needs came up the Bible said that virtue was coming out of Jesus and he was doing what to them healing them making them whole he was giving to them life he healed them all all were treated all received something from Jesus come on has anybody ever been healed by the hand of Jesus he gave you healing the same thing that happened here Luke chapter 6 notice here's verse number 20. and he lifted up his eyes on his disciples and said Luke chapter 6 verse 20. this is such a cool teaching look notice how he does this blessed be ye poor for yours is the kingdom of God blessed are ye that hunger now for ye shall be filled blessed are ye that weep now for ye shall laugh verse 22 blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the son of man's sake verse 23 Rejoice ye in that day and leap for Joy for behold your reward is great in heaven for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets notice this verse 24 but woe unto you that are rich you have received your consolation woe unto you that are full for you shall hunger woe unto you verse of the end of verse 25 woe unto you that laugh now for ye shall mourn and weep verse 26 woe unto you when all men shall speak well of you for so did their fathers through the false prophets verse 27 but I say in this interesting he's saying blessed are you if you're this blessed are you if you he takes the same things and says woe unto you woe until you follow this but I say unto you which here verse 27 this is what he says love your enemies do good to them which hate you wait a minute he said they're going to hate you do good to them follow teaching verse 28 bless them that curse you pray for them which despitefully use you now he goes he's about to go through some teaching here that none of us lied none of us lie and unto him verse 29 that smiteth thee on the One Cheek offer also the other and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy code also verse 30 give to every man that asks of asketh of thee and of him that taketh away thy Goods ask them not again none of us like this verse 31 and as he would that men should do to you do ye also to them likewise verse 32 for if you love them which love you what think have ye for Sinners also love those that love them verse 33 and if you do good to them which do good to you what think have you for Sinners also even the do even the same verse 34. and if you lent to them of whom you hope to receive what thank heavy for Sinners also lend to Sinners and receive as much again verse 35 but love ye your enemies and do good and lend hoping for nothing again and your rewards shall be great you shall be the children of the highest for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil verse 36. be ye therefore merciful as your father also is merciful judge not you shall not be judged condemn not and shall not be condemned forgive shall be forgiven now these words in the King James version or what color the indication is here and the translator said this would have been Words of Christ therefore we change the color so people can make reference to it Jesus is teaching this blessed are those blessed are those blessed are those but woe to those woe to those and woe to those and if somebody takes your coat cloak give them your coat and if somebody take something from you don't ask it back from them does anybody like this particular teaching what a challenge it is to understand what Jesus was trying to do but to end this in verse number 38 notice what he says give and it shall be given unto you good can y'all help me read this that way I know you you get this lesson give out loud and it shall be given unto you good measure pressed down shaken together running over shall who wait a minute I thought God gave you things men give un into your bosom for with the same measure that you meet with all it shall be measured to you again in all of this instruction that we just read here it's going through what seems to be a contradiction blessed blessed blessed whoa whoa whoa if they take this give them that don't ask for this back understand where it came from let them have it get that doesn't mean let them have it don't let them have the ax with 238. understand judge not you shall not be judged don't condemn forgive you'll be forgiven and then he says to give and it shall be given to you but in what way will it be given back to you good measure meaning the scales will not be tainted pressed down meaning there's no room for extra shaken together cut I get this every time my wife allows me to go over to buff City and get washed detergent this lesson comes to me because the lady dumps that powder stuff in the little container and I'm like this is running everywhere anybody notice that but then she's standing there and she goes and it all and then she puts some more and then she goes and it goes down I'm like press down shaken together and she takes the rest and she puts it in her vanity she goes and she puts the land on land on I go home and say baby I got money's worth this time hang on to me the same way that you understand the value of giving it's going to come back to you now herein is the doctrine tonight that I want to talk about it's eight o'clock for us clock Watchers those who weep will laugh but those who laugh will weep someone take something from you give them the extra learn the lesson it is not about the stuff is about understanding the power of giving every Point Jesus looks at these disciples do you remember where they were they were in this place and he was trying to instruct them and help them to understand the kingdom he came to fulfill the law and so he is addressing this law he understands the law of walking through the cornfield not working on the Sabbath and he says but wait a minute if you're hungry what do you do and I'm trying to give you a lesson here to understand that the word of God is more than a law it is fulfilled through your relationship with him and you develop your relationship with Jesus in the giving in the receiving come on has the Lord ever unctioned you tapped you on the side call it what you want and said you know what you need to give to this person or this cause or this need and in your mind and in your heart you knew it was simply impossible but you yielded to it and you let it go and you turn and walk away I have I'm telling you I have been in that position so many times in my life many times by the time I turned to walk away God was standing there ready to give it back now again some of us we have the wrong understanding of giving you know what God I need you to take this twenty dollar bill and make it a 200 for me real quick come on and God's saying I don't that's not the point I told you all the story of Stephen and when he was a boy in a missions conference at General Conference and he said can I have my wallets their informed mission service he has a five dollar bill and a one dollar bill Michelle hands him his wallet he reaches in pulls out a Bill runs down to the Altar and lays it down comes back we're all proud parents Michelle's looks in the wallet and she's like he took the five he left the one she went honey come on cat eyes and that next morning I'm at the general conference in these young these uh these families walking behind me are you a missionary yes when they let me be do you have children I do I got two our Sunday school class takes up money we want to bless your children here's a 20 bill for each of them I get home that afternoon and I say buddy what'd you give last night he said five and I took a 20 he said the lord gave this to you today he went man if I don't give ten come on ain't nothing wrong with kids math what could I say I tell you what I said that's right buddy if you'd have given 10 God would have blessed it would he have multiplied I don't know but I know this listen to me on that little bit example there's a whole stack of children in a Sunday school class somewhere that said one of these days we're going to give this money to missionary kids God knew all of that there's no way we would have known that listen to me if you understand the law and you understand the principles of God's love and his ability to bless you then the entire principle of giving is solely based upon all that you have is his and you relinquish it to him and then you become the steward of it the administrator of it you come to a place that you realize you work a job you get paid an hourly wage a monthly wage whatever it is you buy you say you give your boss eight hours of work and then your boss gives you eight hours of payment is that how it works that's how life happens right you exchange time with money we get that as people but what we forget sometimes is who is actually in control of that whole scenario Acts chapter 20. this is this is this is church stuff now I read out of the teachings of one of the gospels said and you could get that because it's it's the same right it's the same it's the gospel good news and this or whatever but now the church has started and in Acts chapter 20 verse 32 now brethren I commend you to God through the word of his grace which is able to build you up to give you an inheritance among all them which are Sanctified verse 33 I have coveted no man's silver or gold or apparel verse 34. yay ye yourselves know these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to them that are with me verse 35 I had showed you all things how that Soul laboring you ought to support the weak to remember the words of the Lord Jesus what did he say it is more blessed to so the doctrine of giving listen to me carefully as I bring this down brother John would you come Paul demonstrated the church in their understanding trying to grasp the reality of what God was doing in their lives the apostles were teaching and instructing those that were coming into the family to the church very early on in fact the Bible tells us in the second chapter of Acts that they sold goods and they brought they gave and then there were needs and those needs were taken care of now there's there's a whole lot of discussion in Ministry and there's a whole lot of of trying to understand what did that mean did that mean that anybody in the whole world could receive if they would just go ask or does that mean that the spirit gave them understanding to where they knew that this family or this widow or this child whatever and they would give that to me my friend is is is not the premise that we're looking at but the apostles took the responsibility of the Holy Ghost filling them and they knew if we have to do this our way and we have to fulfill this with our understanding and carefully then we already know very quickly people will be pushing at one another no it's my turn to take up the offering no no no no no it's my my you you did last week you led service I get to lead tonight even while Jesus was alive walking in shoe leather there's a family hey will you let one of them sit on your left and you're right they're trying to push into a position and Jesus knew that would be the case because we're human and because we have the ability to mess things up when it comes to giving the doctrine of giving unto the things of God is based solely on obedience to him you want to know why that we have prayer every week while we have corporate prayer church services you want to know why we incorporate a family altar at your home or a place where you can pray come on it's more than just you got to abide your time and you got to clock in and clock out what the Lord wants to know is do you really love him and do you really trust him you realize that right now the spirit of God could speak to you and if he asks you to empty your wallet what would you do what if he asks you to clear your calendar what would you do what if he asks for you to give your most prized possession how would you respond a lot of us let me be very Frank here some of us won't pray because we're afraid of what God will say and we consider ignorance to be Bliss I don't I don't mind saying that's part of humanity as well on that night that the Lord called me in the ministry to preach I wrestle for hours and hours on the floor I didn't realize that I was already in the process for weeks I didn't I didn't realize what God was doing I didn't I didn't identify it until years later while I was throwing away stuff that I had kept why why did I come in after church on Sunday with two trash bags and went to the stereo cabinet it's back in the late 90s or 80s wow it's stuff that I had kept and collected I knelt down in front of that stereo cabinet and I picked up all those albums and put them in a trash bag and all those cassette tapes and
