Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The Gleaning Law: Remember You Were a Bondman
- The law protects the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow: their judgment is not to be perverted, and a widow's garment is not to be taken in pledge.
- Israel was commanded to remember it had been a bondman in Egypt, and to leave what the harvest dropped: the forgotten sheaf in the field, the olives left after beating, the grapes left after gleaning — all for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, so the Lord would bless the work of their hands.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 24:17-22
Handfuls of Purpose
- Ruth stayed in Boaz's field after her great confession of commitment to Naomi and to Naomi's God.
- Boaz ordered his young men to let grain fall on purpose for her — handfuls of purpose — and to leave it for her to glean without reproach.
Scriptures: Ruth 2:16
Purpose Found in Unselfish Giving
- Purpose is not discovered in selfish accumulation; God has given us precepts, and living by them unselfishly is where purpose is found.
- What is deliberately left for others — time, resources, what the harvest drops — becomes provision for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.

You can be seated if you think you need to. All right. We are continuing down the path for um the purpose series. Of course, our yearly theme is greater and uh in all points we are trying our best to be a greater blessing to be a greater church, greater individuals, um a greater burden for the things of God. We are stretching ourselves and growing. If you have your um journal, feel free to take notes. Tonight, uh today is the 15th. It should be a page in there for that. um greater brother Sam um on Sunday in his message he his his point was how to discover purpose. Um, anybody remember the example he gave the young man that that flew on the Nenina the paint and the Santa Maria who >> flew I mean I'm sure it felt like it to them.
Some I'm just making sure you listen. Christopher Columbus. There we go. Some of you are like I didn't know I didn't even know Galileo was alive then. Um, but he talked about discovering. He also had a busted compass. Not really sure if I would trust a busted compass. But anyway, point is this. We are uh in the midst of our purpose series. And tonight I want to teach, if if you'll allow me, I want to talk some more probably a different vein than was Sunday's message. And I want to talk about how to discover your purpose. How do how do we as individuals discover our purpose? That's an open question for anybody who would like to respond. How how do you discover your purpose? You wait for somebody to tell you what you're supposed to do, you know, or tell you that you're not worth.
I'm sure some of us heard that growing up. You ain't worth it, right? >> Seek God. >> Yeah. Seek after the face of God. Absolutely. What else? >> Go do something and figure out you don't want to do that. >> Well, there is that. Go do something and figure that out. That's not what There you go. I've had a lot of those jobs, right? One of them was roofing. I said, "I won't do this no more." to disa to discover purpose in God. I began to look at this for this lesson and um I hope you guys will stay with me for just a little bit because to understand the purpose and go I I think sometimes it's such a generic question such a generic topic that sometimes we don't we don't give it much thought because you could actually have purpose just showing up in the house of the Lord.
Is that right? Forsake not the assembly of yourselves together. Well, I didn't. I'm here, so that should be enough purpose. Uh, I'm I'm singing in the ensemble, so that should be enough purpose. Uh, I've swept the floor this week at the church. Whatever that happens to be, you can simply say there, I did my part. And if everybody would do that, whatever that part is, and that should be enough. And and we can actually live our the entirety of our lives by simply doing things that are probably a good idea, but yet we we we don't feel fulfilled because our purpose has yet to be defined. You know, I know when I when I do uh the uh um first steps class on on Sundays in my office with our newcomers, one of the things I I try to make sure I tell them, look, you may be talented in these two or three, five, 10, one thing, whatever, but I want to challenge you to stretch a little bit and maybe try something else.
Because I feel like sometimes we can get in a mode in a situation to where basically what we're doing is we're simply a cog in the wheel and we're just simply trying not to let it slip and we just keep doing that. Next thing you know, you blink and and life's passed you by. Opportunities have passed you by. So I want to take you if if you'll let me. We're going to go to the Old Testament. Is that okay? Old Testament. Deuteronomy chapter 24. If you have a Bible, I'd love for you to turn there. This is going to be a hopefully a very pointed um lesson tonight about discovering purpose. While you're turning there, Deuteronomy 24. Somebody give me a definition of purpose, please.
What is a definition of purpose? Seth's looking it up, aren't you? >> Okay, we'll take it. Calling. What else? something that excites you. >> Okay? Doesn't always for example, you have a job because you have a purpose, right? But you may not like the job, but you're hungry. So, you put food on the Okay, the definition. I'm sure there is a definition. If in fact, if you ask dear old Siri, she'd give you one. I I want to talk to us though. Let's go to Deuteron. We're going to go to some Old Testament stuff. Verse 17. Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless, nor take a widow's reignment to pledge. Again, Deuteronomy, if you if you're a Bible scholar, you know that there's Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Matthew, Mark.
Got them out of whack, right? Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and >> Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy, Joshua. Okay. Um, Deuteronomy is where the applicable law, word of God is given to the people of God. There's something here in the word of God. Then it says, "Don't pervert judgment of the stranger, nor the fatherless, nor the widow's raignment to pledge." Verse 18, "But thou shalt remember that thou was a bondman in Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee. Therefore, I command thee to do this thing. So, um he's speaking here of the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow. Okay? There's three things, elements, if you will, of that culture that he's talking about. And then he says, I want you to remember that you were also in slavery.
You were a bondman in Egypt. But God re he redeemed you. He paid the price for you. So therefore, I'm going to command you to do something. Verse 19, when thou cutest down thine harvest in thy field, hast forgot a sheath of the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it. It shall be ready for the stranger, for the fatherless, for the widow, that the Lord thy God bless thee in all the work of thine hands. Verse 20. When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again, it shall be, you ready? For the stranger, the fatherless, and for the widow. 21. When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, and thou shalt not glean it afterward, it shall be, you got it, for the stranger, the fatherless, and for the widow.
Verse 22, notice what it said. And thou shalt remember that thou was a bondman in the land of Egypt. Therefore, I command thee to do this thing. Again, the law of God was given to the people of God very very specifically. That's why there were 600 plus different points laws of the law. every point of of living, of dying, of serving, of working, of planting, of sewing, of cleaning, of not clean, whatever. All of those things had purpose in how God instructed and led his people. So, we get here in chapter 24 of Deuteronomy. Now, if you take time, you can study the rest of the chapter, but for tonight's lesson, the basic fundamental of this is simply this. The Lord said, "If you ever forget that you were once in slavery, you were once bound, if you forget what you went through while you were in that position, you are going to rise to a place to where I can no longer bless you because there's a stranger, there's a fatherless, and there's a widow." Now, God was very specific because he said, "If you're going to be mine, you're going to have to learn how I do things, how I want for you to do things." Now fact remains if you study anything about Old Testament law, Old Testament relationship between God and Israel, New Testament relationship between Jesus Christ and the church for an example unlike anything that you ever thought anything that you've ever known much of the word of God leads us actually contrary to human nature.
That right? The first shall be makes no sense. He that humbles himself will makes no sense. Give first and then you'll receive. Makes no sense in our minds because when God knows the created manner, principle, characteristics, thoughts, intentions of the heart of man, God created humans this way. He want he wanted to make sure that all of humanity understood the value and the power of choice. The choice is what makes the difference. It's it's again it's interesting to me that he he says that he wouldn't put anything on you that you couldn't bear. He would always make a way of escape. And I'm going well then why why put me in the position? If there's already a way of escape, then why am I put into this situation?
How many understand sometimes to understand God, you've got to unthink the human way? Because it doesn't really make sense. If you'll give to God first, guess what he'll do? He'll bless you. If you don't give to God first, guess what? He won't. Don't make sense. Follow me for just a little bit. When it comes to the people of God, God said, "I want you to understand something. The systems of the world, they're going to be created by humans. Their ways, their laws, their principles, their concepts, their precepts. Man are they're going to be really good at it. I'm going to help you with that." So, Old Testament, we have what's called the judges. Somebody tell me one of the judges. Just one. There's several. One of the judges.
Debra. >> Gideon. Deborah. One more. >> Samson. Who? >> You said Samson. Yeah. Um, one of the judges. You didn't, but hang on. Here's the thing about it. God said, "I'm going to give somebody to you, king, that can help you navigate this." What else did God give to a king? A ruler? You know what? A prophet gave him a voice. So there were judges. He also said, "Now you need to pick though out of the people, scribes." What did the scribe do? Wrote everything that the king or the one that was in control said and the laws and the principles because it had to be carried out through they didn't their social media skills were lacking at that point. Texting was kind of slow.
Um by the time they tink got six feet of texting here. It just wasn't very effective. Boy, some of your minds just Deuteronomy 24 reminds us that God made sure that they never forgot that they indeed were in bondage at one point. Now, has anybody here, you don't have to answer this, but just a thought, have you ever been a slave to something, an attitude, an action, a person, a anything? A bill, a debt. Yeah, man. You're just paying that dude. You just keep paying and keep paying. Right. It's called a mortgage, man. I'm joking. Um >> Coca-Cola. >> A what? >> Coca-Cola. >> Coke. Yeah. Got addicted to the Coke. You could start there if you want. Here's the thing. When when when you've got something that you're connected to by choice, coke, a job, buying a house.
That's totally different than when you are enslaved for 400 years. Okay? Remember the story of how that the people of God went into Egypt. They didn't go in as slaves. There were 70 that went in looking for basically life. And by the hand and providence of God, there was a son that was sold into slavery that became lived in potterers. Okay, y'all with me? What's the guy's name? Can't believe who >> Yeah. lived there. Joseph. >> Thank you, Jonathan. They have a children's class downstairs. But um all of that they went in though, they went in just to survive. But what happened was little by little, step by step, point by point, they came under bondage. Y'all believe it or not? We're headed somewhere tonight.
Here's the point then that God wanted to make sure that every generation of the children of Israel understood. You were once a bondman. You were once in slavery, but I brought you out. There's no way that you can deny it was my hand. It was my command that brought you out. So God says to Moses, "Listen, I need for them to understand something. Everything in life can have a purpose. And you can get very upset and angry for an example at things that happen in your life. But I want you to understand that there will be strangers that will come into your presence. There will be the fatherless that will come into your presence. And there will be widows that will come into your presence.
And these three people, these types of people that will come into where you are if you don't understand how to deal with them, you're going to negate them or you're going to welcome them or you're going to do things where you don't understand how to allow them to fellowship with you. Now, God gave Moses instructions. Look at this principle. When you reap a harvest in the field, leave some of the sheav in the field. Leave some of the grain in the field. Don't go back and pick over it and pick over it and pick over it and make sure you get every piece up off the ground. But I want you to leave some of it. When you make olive oil in the press and you've harvested the olives and you've crushed them and you've put them through the process, don't go through it time and time again to make sure you get every drop out.
But instead, leave some of that and don't go gather up all the stuff, but leave part of it. Also, when you're gathering grapes to make your wine, your drink, understand that when you press them down and you've harvested what you need of the vine, I don't need for you to put all of that away. I need you to leave part of that. When all the work is done, when all the reaping has happened, when all the tasks have taken place, to me, it makes no sense to leave some of it. I mean, a good businessman would say, "What? I bought 45 pounds of wheat seed to plant. I need to harvest it, and I need to get all of it up because I don't know what next year will hold.
I need to put some away. I mean, after all, that's why the children of Israel were in Egypt, because Joseph had dreams, and he put away in barns enough to sustain them for seven years they thought ahead. But in this in Deuteronomy 24, Moses is hearing from God and God is saying, "Listen to me. There will be strangers, fatherless and widows that will come in your midst. I need for you to leave something for them." Only a good businessman would say, "If I'm going to make olive oil, I have to get all of it that I can. I got to make sure that I do it the right way because I am, after all, a steward of what God's given me. I have to make sure that I do the best that I can.
When I work hard in the field, getting the maximum of a return is exactly what I need to do. But with God, he's doing things a little different. God in fact is saying, I if you don't leave this, we just read it. This is a command to you because if you don't do this, you are going against what I'm asking for you to do. I've often thought, why is it that God was so concerned about a stranger, fatherless, and a widow? I mean, honestly, there in every society, in every culture, there are there are things that go on in people's families and their homes. A and there's stuff that sometimes people deserve, sometimes they don't. Uh sometimes it's just a a pick of the luck of the draw, I guess, or pick of the wrong card.
Call it what you want. And yet they're they're they're there and and they don't have parent or a dad because he died or he was taken into slavery or he was removed or they were removed from home. her husband died while he was working for uh his boss and now she doesn't have a way to make the same income or somebody was kicked out of their country and they fled and they went into a place and they found themselves in the midst of the people of Jehovah and and they're now strangers to the ways that they do things. They don't understand those laws. I'll ask you this before we continue for why does God always look at those things when we as humans don't so much is anybody >> a blessing >> and see we understand that in New Testament theology but in Old Testament law for an example when mana fell from heaven the children of Israel walking you realize if you didn't go out and get it that your kids were going to starve serve.
That was just what it was. And if you went out to get more than you needed for the day and you tried to keep it to the next day, it would rot. So God said, "I'm going to give you what you need now. Make sure you do this right." The blessing was not the fact that they went out and got it. The blessing for them was the fact that when they went out and got it, they did it the way God told them to do it. They follow the detail of the law. Here here, let's let's go this way. I'm I'm trying to help us today to to wrap our minds around something. If you work hard in the field, if if you draw in a harvest of wheat, whatever it is, if you've made oil, because you know that's a great task, if you've pressed out the grape and you made drink because your family's going to have to have it because water is unsuitable to drink.
It it would only seem right that you would do it to the best of your ability. But to God, he has more than you on his mind. How many's ever been the more than you? God was blessing others and just because you were there, somehow someway you were blessed just by being in proximity. You you were blessed. I've used this this illustration many times, but way back in the day when my wife and my kids came to Chattanooga, there was an older lady used to come to church and uh she wore little dainty gloves. They somebody have to go pick her up. She was probably 111 at that. I don't know. She was barely move. She'd get in the church though, brother also would have her testify and uh she'd stand at a little feeble body.
But buddy, when she'd take off testifying, she'd grab each of the chairs and shout down the aisle the best she knew how. She'd finish her testimony. And many times, Brother Austin say, "Some of y'all need to get over and sit next to her. Let some of that rub off on you. Some of y'all are all stiff now." Yeah, y'all need to get up next to her. and she'd move her purse like as if somebody's going to go and sit there because um things that God gives to us, things that God allows us to have, do we work for it? Do we ever really truly deserve though what God's giving us? When we talk about Old Testament law here, God is telling them, "I'm commanding you to leave part of your harvest.
Leave part of the oil or the oil olive um olives. Let's go. Leave part of the the grapes and stuff. Don't go back through there like a good steward would, but allow those things to sit because there are the strangers, the fatherless, the widows. And if you don't allow this, they are not going to be taken care of." while they're in my company. See, I'm convinced again, a lot of times, even in 2026, somebody will come to the house of the Lord, they'll sit in a church service and the whole place is going up in smoke. People worshiping, loving God. They're not even moving. But I'm convinced God can still speak into their life >> by proximity. Here, here's here's what I want you to understand about this.
His plan, God's plan for us is more than simply comfort of our wallet. His plan for all of humanity is for us to work and to intentionally do the will of God as he directs us. So this law we read in Deuteronomy, again, there are several others if you want to take time and go back into them and discover them. But today, greater purpose. How to discover your purpose. I I thought that I would take us down this path. I think that we need to be good stewards. We need to work smart, don't we? We need to work wise. We need to invest smartly. What is it that our grandparents said? Honest days work deserves honest days pay. Nothing like laying your head down on a pillow at night knowing you worked hard.
Yes, sir. Sure. >> Very cool. >> And you leave dead squirrels everywhere. >> I'm joking. >> Anytime I see somebody and I see Sure. >> Yeah. >> Sure. Well, you know, if I may, brother Poke, here's the thing about that. Uh we live in a society that it's really hard sometimes to have compassion on people. It's I mean, you know, you don't know their situation. In fact, I don't know about you, but you pull up to any one of these traffic lights around here and the guys standing we'll work for food. I don't know what that means. Sometimes, this is just me. I want to roll down my window and say, "Work do something and let me see you then." I'm I'm not being facicious here.
I'm just simply saying I I look at that and our first thing on our minds many times is yeah they're going to go buy drugs or they're going to go to this or and they may be this law has nothing to do with that. This law simply says in my camp when there's a stranger fatherless or a widow I need to make sure they're tended to. Listen to this. He did not tell them in this law go gather it up, put it in bags and sit it there and say free for the taking. He did not say gather up the olives that are left there, put them in a sack and in a big pan and say these have been squished and boiled over twice so you're welcome to them have have a good day.
He didn't say that. So the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow still had to do what? >> Work for it. They had to collect it. The thing about a stranger, the fatherless, and a widow. By the Old Testament law, they would have no rights to land. It was only given to who? The men. A stranger who was not from there didn't understand the laws. He would have no way to get land until he learned the laws. The fatherless, what happened? those orphans, the dad who would be the representative for them was not around. The widow, what happened to her? Her husband's not able. You see the point? God is saying, "I'm taking care of those who have a right to be taken care of, but nobody else is going to unless I establish this rule." Now, notice something here.
Let's go a little further. Stranger, fatherless, and widow. In that day, who would have been a stranger? Anybody that was not of the tribe of or the children of Israel, tribe of Levi, the Israelites, because the Israelites were the ones that had these laws, right? If if you worshiped Rah or you worshiped another god, you didn't have these laws. This was God's laws for his people. The promise, the covenant was through Abraham. That thread you can follow. God gave the established this is how this is going to be. So the stranger would be somebody who was not privy to that stuff. They would have to learn. I'm sure you know this. When the children of Israel fled Egypt, you know that some of the Egyptians went with them.
Why? They had plenty of gods. They had plenty of idols they could worship. the entirety of why Moses I'm sorry why Noah would go back into All right y'all caught me why Moses would go back I was waiting on somebody say and y'all weren't listening to go back in and say let my people go and God say no I'm hardening his heart and there's a reason that the frogs and the lice and the things that there's a reason those things were done God was establishing priorities against their gods demonstrating ating what God could do. Now follow this. This is so cool. By definition, a person who was not by law birth or connection, he wasn't a chosen child of God, a sojourer, one camp to the other.
When he came in with the children of Israel, there had to be some provision made for him. God made sure that he was seen to. We also see that in creation, God established rules, regulations with humanity, with animals. You know, the the how reproduction would happen with a male cow and a female cow and how cow babies were Okay, I got to get over here. I got to do a Hollywood version, right? Yeah. How how bird babies and all that. God established those laws. But when it comes to humans, God established a way that people that were not of the law could somehow be tended to. So there was something that was established, and you can see this in um probably one of the most popular Old Testament books of the Bible.
There's books written about it. There's songs written about it. There's dramatization written about it. There's all kind of things written about this little short few chapters of the Old Testament that's established. And that is simply the book of Ruth. Has anybody ever heard of a handful of purpose? That's why I went through this whole thing. Let me explain some things to you. The words of the master, the words of God intentionally, God says, "I need you to take care of those who don't have, those who cannot." In fact, we read in Ruth chapter 2:1 16, "And let this is Boaz talking to his workers out in these fields. Hey, let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her. leave them that she may glean them and rebuke her not.
Handfuls of purpose. So I started researching handfuls of purpose doesn't make sense to me. Brother Larry, that phrase doesn't make sense to me. Handfuls of purpose. May maybe maybe to you it does. But here's what I as I begin to discover this and looking into it. Ruth had made a declaration that she would not go to her people, but instead she would go to her mother-in-law's people. Naomi told her, "You don't have to go away. Go to your folk. All the men are gone. We are now widows. We don't have we have no rights to anything out here. And Ruth of course says to her, "No, whether you go, I will go. Where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people will be mine and your God." What was Ruth saying then in reality?
More than just those few phrases. Again, we use this a lot today. What was she actually saying? >> Committed to Naomi. But again, that's not going to prove to be very beneficial because Naomi is in the same condition she's in. She has no rights to dirt. What is she saying then? She what? I now have a commitment and a purpose-c because this is a choice that I make. So, how do we discover our purpose? I'm trying to keep an eye on my watch. Boaz, come to find out, was actually in a bloodline familial relationship with these people of Ruth. He didn't know her, though. Who's Who's the damsel? Who's the lady that's out there on the edge of the field right now? She is a beautiful young lady, but more than that, she listen to me.
She has not set up shop, propped up herself on the corner, leaned under a tarp, asking for sweet tea and lemonade to mix the two together and call it Arnold Palmer. She is working hard. Why is she out here on this field, on the edge of this field, gleaning from what has yet to be cut? Why doesn't she just let it go? Why doesn't she let Naomi come do it? Because this Ruth has a purpose and her purpose is her commitment to somebody is life or death. So I began to research this. This is used only a couple times in scripture, handfuls of purpose. And basically what the bottom line to this instruction is according to the book of Ruth is the owner of the field, the owner of the vineyard, the owner of the olive press, whatever it was, would have to make a conscious decision to say, I see somebody that has a need and in my heart I am going to follow the law and allow them to reap from what I've sown.
Again, 2026, we all use this phrase. We just may not put it in this vernacular, but we are all very well capable of saying, I quote, "Young, you're on your own. Do the best you can." And God is always though has said, if there's a stranger, fatherless, or widow, there has to be provision. I bring it down to this. I've got about five minutes left. How do we discover a purpose? I can tell you how very simply. Number one, don't be selfish. Selfish people have no purpose. And that's God intended right there. Selfish people have no purpose. It's themselves. And that border and that boundary is very small. Okay? Selfish people have no purpose. Number two, giving people understand the power of purpose. It was said just a few moments ago, thank you, brother Poey, that you know what?
I didn't have nothing, but God's been good to me. You already understand then the value of what God invested in you. There's only one reason that it came back multiplied, pressed down, shaken together, and running over is because purpose kicked in. I can guarantee though sometimes that strength wasn't there. >> You simply did it out of commitment to a purpose. and that's the only and that's the only reason that you did it right or so he would say that >> no you didn't know you see the point is this because you had the commitment to the purpose now I I'm I'm under the understanding I I've pastored a couple of years here I've been on mission fields we we man I got I can I can get burned out very quickly with people that are constantly begging Begging is not a person in need.
Begging is somebody that has a want, that has a situation. They're trying to find solution. I'm not saying they're bad people. But there's something totally different though when somebody sees the opportunity because of the law and makes themselves available to pick up the sheav, the grain that's been left in the field. Please understand that Old Testament law, there would not have been simply one young lady standing in a field. There would have been multitudes of people trying to glean from a harvest because they didn't have land to plant their own seed on. They were simply trying to survive. And by the law of God, the covenant of God with humanity, God said, if there's a stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, you make sure that they have a way.
I've often wondered too, why is it then in 2026 that so many people are unhappy, unsettled? Why are so many folks to the top of their lungs what they deserve and I'm entitled to this? This is mine. And all the while humans are hurting and breaking and busted and broken and somehow someway God has been pulled away from the picture. How do we discover purpose? How do we have a greater purpose? I'll tell you in a nutshell. It's simply this. Allow the laws and the precepts of God to be part of who you are. When you wake up in the morning, you pray. Please don't pray, "Lord, bless me today more than I can handle because you don't know how much you can handle." I have seen people take the little and smallest of things and God bless that and then be so happy with it.
I can give you hundreds and hundreds of personal testimonies of people that I was in contact with that I saw then have two dimes to rub together literally. But joy came when a piece of bread came their way because their perspective was not is the air conditioner set right or is the heat set right. Their perspective was I got another day. Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey. So challenge within yourself. Lord I understand now why that there was a principle of the gleaner. Because I may one day become a stranger in a place that you're calling me to go to. And I would hope that somebody there would understand the rules and the regulations and the laws that you've put into humanity. And somehow someway, Lord, I hope that in my daytoday life and in my day-to-day choices that I would find a way to have compassion because in that is purpose.
I haven't said to you, God never did say, "Sell everything you've got, bring it to the church, lay it in a bucket, and walk away. New Testament was actually started out of a revival prayer meeting. The Bible then quickly tells us as the chapters began to unfold that people began to sell goods and bring to the apostles and they distributed as need. Nowhere there does it say they sold everything that they had. Some did. I have no doubt. Others simply said, "You know what? I am so selfish with this. I'm going to get rid of it because Jesus is coming right back and I'm going to give it and let the apostles distribute it as there's need. You would have thought, if I may, in closing, you would think that God would just be able to say, "Let there be bread.
Let there be Wendy's. Let there be good Mexican food." Seth, sit down. What's wrong with you? Let there be. No, but God says, "What? There's needs." Yeah. In fact, they even Judas said, "Hey, whoa, whoa, back up. She didn't have to bust that alabaster box. We could have sold that. We could have come up with all kind of stuff and been able to feed the poor." Great idea, right? What did Jesus say? You're going to always have poor folk. That's not the point. I'm with you this time. If you'll follow what I'm doing, the poor folk will be taken care of. So purpose, greater purpose, how to discover it. I If you got time, go back and read the account in Deuteronomy. Why was that command put there?
Because God wants to bless you. He wants to be there. He wants to be your God. Bring that to New Testament. He tells us all the time, "If you'll follow my commands, if you'll seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, then these things will be added." >> Stand with me, would you? Lord, I thank you for our time together tonight. Thank you for the word, the purpose that you give us. You've established it in your word. Lord, you you've got principles and precepts that we can draw from, that we can gain knowledge from. Lord, I I am so thankful tonight, God, that we have a way that we can be Christlike in our world. I know, Jesus, that you have provided so much for so many.
And again, Lord, you are providing for us. I thank you, Lord, for that, for the promises that come knowing you and serving you. I love you, Lord, that we are bought with a price. And I'm thankful for that. Help us God not to be selfish but help us Lord to show your love and help us God to reach others and in that we will find purpose in the name of Jesus. Bless our worship time here tonight time together Lord the remainder of this week in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. I love y'all.
