Preaching and Teaching

again I welcome all of you out on this midweek Bible study so good to see your smiling faces and a few frowns this is our Wednesday night we are talking about church growth um the first Wednesday night of the month of course sister Stacy taught on prayer the chief foundational block the Cornerstone if you will of growing an Apostolic Church is prayers let me say prayer from prayer we went the following week into planning how you plan the way we do Services the way we do groups the way we do sessions we plan for Apostolic growth everybody say plan last week anybody remember okay last week anybody remember oh my God are so persistent at that um persistency that's right what does that mean come on Southern vernacular somebody say it get after it that's right keep on right you just do what you do planning and prayer do what you do amen we're going to continue Lesson Four this evening and tonight in our church growth we are going to talk about preaching and teaching another block if you will another thing to understand we've talked about prayer planning persistence tonight we're going to continue with preaching and teaching uh let's begin tonight I'll watch the clock okay so well they got a timer on me too very good um like that's going to matter right second Timothy chapter 4 if you've got your Bible you can turn there or if you don't want to look it up and you'd rather take my word for it second Timothy chapter 4 verse 1. I did not get these verses to the guys in the back but look how quickly they did that somebody read real loud for me please second Timothy chapter 4 verse one go verse 2. keep going very good thank you um the letter here to the young man says to do the work that God is calling you to do is that okay now he goes in to preach the word be instant in season out reprove rebuke resort with all long suffering and Doctrine how many realize this is not only for preachers Timothy of course was the minister of the Gospel in fact he was a young man that Paul if you guys know the history of this Paul kind of took under his wing to help to encourage even causing his son in the spirit son and the Lord it was somebody that he really was affectionate too because Timothy had a whole lot of good stuff that he was applying and allowing God to use him in the church uh in this particular letter he tells him to preach the word and and here's may I if this is a letter from Paul what word was he supposed to be preaching now I know some Old-Timers have been accused of saying you know if if the if the disciples used the King James version that's what we need to use what I've had that sold to me before and I said you're right absolutely well I was thinking what was Tim what was the word Timothy was to preach did he have it written did he have it in a King James version did he even have it in the in the Aramaic or the Greek well what do you have what word would he have been Exon what he had been you need to preach the word foreign copy he sat down and wrote I mean is this an okay question what did he do oh you're gonna sound a whole lot like somebody who don't have to have a license and stand behind a podium you didn't have to have a license stand behind a Podium to do what was he saying there's doctrine that you've been taught teaching that you've received now go preach that because a lot you okay A lot of times we can get away with things because we'll say well I'm gonna call Pastor see if he'll go teach him a Bible study I'm well you Bible broke you okay with this listen carefully listen carefully let's go let's continue I want to read an earlier portion of this second Timothy again it says the same letter chapter 2 verse 24. somebody read for me please second Timothy chapter 2 verse 24 real loud somebody keep going for 25 6. thank you now this is earlier in the letter you notice this I had to start with preaching because I know a lot of times we misunderstand the instruction that Timothy was given we want to again and I for for knowing if there's somebody that comes to me that says I feel like I got to call of God to be a preacher guess what verses I use that's right I use these verses preach the word instant in season out of season you know there's a reason that you've got to preach but then earlier in the letter he also says the servant of the Lord must not strive gentle unto all men apt to teach what does it mean to be apt prepared what else ready what else able sure what else confident we'll take it what else Bulger what else prepared yeah there's a whole lot of things that we can attach to the teaching now stay with me moment he says be apt to teach so in other words if I may I wonder and and and this may be one of the questions that you ask when you get to heaven if you're so inclined hey Paul Tim check it out guys which address did y'all go to in Google to get the best verses you used not gonna be there right why because that's not how it was done that's not why the instruction was given so when he said be apt to teach how in the world if you don't have that Bible let's call it that that 66 book Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Joshua Judges second phrase okay he didn't have that now he would have had access of course probably to some of the Scrolls he probably would have even had access to if he spoke the language to the original Hebrew but that would have been very limited okay very limited not everybody could walk in and say I want to check out scroll number 614. not no you don't do it was not allowed listen carefully how then prepared Abel bold how did he get that by what how what word of God I mean what from where did they get the messages where from Paul keep going Danny what you got oh this is midweek Bible study we okay anybody where did they get the Old Testament info wow this is cool can't believe I can't believe you said you're what all we back to Deuteronomy mailing it that's so funny that's stuff yeah let's call it that let's go that's great there you go it could have been hang on I gotta recover if that's the case if that's the case and all they had was a shimmer that would we agree then they would have this short little bitty stack of verses and all they had to do was squat is so funny all they do was walk around and tell that is that okay what would they have said is that enough for the word oh come on two thousand huh but it's there all right again able to teach able to teach apt to teach listen to me now I've got a license with the United Pentecost Church International there's others in here that have there's you know there's a lot of organizations that preach truth in the word of God listen just because there's an organization doesn't mean that you've got to wait until you match that I am 100 convinced that you can be in the worst pit of Hell but if you'll get the word of God from what you've heard and listened to in this age you can teach somebody MLK all right I'm gonna stop for just a moment what are you going to teach we have the Bible there now you can Google because 2023 we have the Internet thanks Al Gore um you can teach with the internet listen carefully what is it that we talk about in the discipleship class that I teach what is it that I talk about your time your talent your treasure and your teach your testimony look what God has done in my life how'd he do that oh you didn't just ask me that he woke me up this morning he started me on my way he put me in my right mind huh the old timers would have said he brought me out of the Myra clay I have to teach no notice the word anybody's still there in your Bible in verse 24 what's the what's that single word after the app to teach oh that's the hard one what Glory why why is it necessary to be able to teach but then be patient at that you know what it's saying why is that necessary because right and humans I mean it depends on what position you are in life it can I can bring closer if your testimony is my life has been a living hell and everything's falling apart and busted and broken I got nothing else all I know is I Found Jesus some people look at you and say yeah but my life hasn't been that so you may or may not have that connect with them so what does that say be and then in meekness instructing those that oppose who a back up oh my uncle used to do this to me put your hand down I'd put my hand out he'd grab it and he'd smack me why are you hitting yourself why hitting yourself I'm opposing myself listen to me they oppose themselves meaning they're doing all they can stay with me to not do right I mean know somebody like that in your life it's almost like they're running it's fast and as hard as they can to destroy themselves to hurt themselves so what does he say to do be patient teach listen that's probably not a good idea you know again back to Southern you might not order how to do that and then he says if God put a venture will what give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth if you'll teach and be patient in it God can work now this this is very important context of this verse guys those that are opposing themselves they are finding ways to challenge themselves if you're somebody who has walked in a life of sin one of the greatest little Holy Ghost is here right now one of the greatest challenges that you have is being able to accept the fact that Jesus loves you in spite of you thank you because you do everything you can do to clarify justify and say God doesn't love me there's no way he can he can't forgive me he he man he don't even know how messed up I am look what it says look how it's written here Paul's writing per Adventure God will give them repentance per Adventure somebody there's there's a Siri word for per Adventure what does that mean if by chance perhaps do you see that if God perhaps if by chance will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth you know God has a way of working even through your slimmest possible ability to teach correctly God can even work through that I cannot as Pastor I cannot tell you how many times I've stood behind this desk or any other desk knowing what God had told me or instructed me or led me to preach or teach and flop fly to my face not at all how I plan on that one happening Brother Robbie I'm talking about no you probably don't you got it down okay yeah band you with me you know what I'm talking yeah yeah you probably know I'm joking huh and close it up and no in yourself you have messed it up and walk away from this desk and somebody come up to you eyes full of tears and say I have never in my life heard something so powerful and strong thank you for preaching to me and I go sit in my office and weep and say God I knew that I messed that up but you per Adventure it was their moment why am I talking about this listen carefully to build an Apostolic Church guys it takes preaching and teaching and if you're sitting here waiting on God to open the windows of heaven and say thou shalt preacher teenage it's not going to be that you know what you need to do you're very fortunate tonight to have the word get in there get your testimony down and then anytime somebody asked or the opportunity comes be patient say you know what the Lord's done for me and you just instruct and you help people find listen said they that may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil you realize when you're reaching for people in the world they have been ensnared by the enemy now how do you break them loose from that it's not going to be by an ax or 238 it's not it's going to be by you teaching and preaching the word of God to them allowing them to have an encounter with Jesus Christ the verses that we read here it's an elder writing to the young Minister Paul writing to Timothy he was talking to them telling them telling him you need to understand something you need to be able to preach and to teach you need to be able to get into what God has done if all Timothy had was accessed once or twice to written Scrolls that he could go in and read here I'll ask it 2023 style you ready what if the Smithsonian Institute said to you you know the Smithsonian that's downtown in in Washington and they have the original one of the the original copy of Declaration of Independence if they told you you know what you've got two minutes what would you go in there and read you know it's all sealed off a lot of those old books you can't get to them what book would you find that's a good it's a good question huh you'd have to probably do some homework beforehand you had to which one's got the best pictures no I mean honestly you have a chance to go and actually see the riding ink on paper of John hancocker or whoever what if you could actually get to a Bible one of the handwritten ones not one that was tight printed after the 1500s what would you do you better you better brush up a little on your German right or or on your Greek and Hebrew am I right here's my point if all that they had access to if it is true in that day is simple handwritten something word of mouth do you realize what they would have had to have done they would have had to number one say this is so important I must make sure that I share this with someone else you realize that Paul when he wrote letters or or anybody else in the New Testament they probably wouldn't have made 20 or 30 copies you know uh in fact a lot of Paul's letters were written from where he's in jail a prison some they even claim Paul's hands were crippled up because of the beatings and bruising he probably could not even have written them physically himself in fact we have through history we have understanding that somebody would sit outside the prison and he would simply speak and they would make the notes now what would Paul say take that letter and take it to the Brethren at Philippi and read that to them and so the Courier would have this whatever letter and he quickly get up and as safe as he could with this letter he would take it and he would say guys gather around gather around and he would read and they would say listen listen and they maybe had a scribe that had that had worked for the government or something they'd come in and they'd write they said yeah those are great and they'd make some notes there and then it would not sit there at Philippi what would they do then there was a reason huh there was a reason that Bartholomew for an example or some these guys said I must needs to go here you know what they were doing they were carrying with them letters to encourage to help the churches that has very simple way of saying that's what the purpose of the letters were so in that context there would not have been time for them to mull over the scriptures and the letters hours upon hours there was simply what say it of faith in what they'd heard and what they had experienced enough to say I'm going to share this with somebody you and I today we're spoiled 2023 how many realize 24 7 365 you can go online on your phone on your computer on your iPad and you can listen to preaching anywhere you want if you're old school like me FM AM it doesn't matter you can go on there and anybody you want to hear preach you can hear preach agreed you can actually I found this out you can actually go to what's the website preacher whatever and you can actually print off one of their messages man I need to go out there what's the name of that website sermon.com is that it oh don't act like you don't know Sam preacher now how do you know You Preach oh there's another huh I need to go put and then right in the middle of the message I need to put this big lie and see if anybody catches it I see it now they get in front of the church yeah and peanut butters what huh anyway listen there's a reason tonight I'm talking Church growth to grow an Apostolic Church you pray yes you plan yes you persistently do what you do for the kingdom yes but preaching and teaching means that all of us can help somebody know about Jesus per Adventure he would say to them now is your moment of repentance now is your time of repentance and bring them into that knowledge listen Mark The Book of Mark chapter number 16. I'm sure all of you have these verses memorized because you've heard them so many times notice Mark chapter 16 verse number 15. huh somebody read for me Mark 16 verse 15. wait a minute are these words in red how cool is that ready read somebody keep going please immediately keep going please 18. thank you of course again the King James version if it's in red what does that mean this will be the words of Christ okay for emphasis sake Jesus says to them that's what I said you ready go ye all the world preach every creature how's that yeah I was expecting something wouldn't you okay oh I'm sorry sorry go all the world does that sound like God's voice I'm trying to help you Izzy's learning the effects back there now notice what he says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved he that believeth not shall be damned now here follow me what do we got I got time when we understand the words of Jesus teaching and instructing these new group of followers and Believers please understand Paul has not yet written letters we got none of that new testimony stuff going on there are no churches there's simply a group of followers that are coming after Jesus and they're they're hungry for what he's saying and doing they they appreciate the fact they're calling him Rabbi that means he's a teacher to them they're calling him Master they're understanding what he's saying to them and this is what he says go he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved he that believeth not shall be damned stop 2023 one of the greatest arguments that the trinitarian church World wants to bring to you is what this verse you believe you're saved you don't believe you're not fine understand the context of this means what when Jesus says this to them he wasn't saying you simply have to believe would say I believe if you believe something what do you do you act you proceed forward you keep moving and that was the audience that was standing there come on don't let this I had my wife and I were out shopping the other day and the guy was at the store he was super duper cool he said I don't mind offending people I ain't waiting on you from the store here if I if you're one of them he went down to him and I'm like oh this is my guy right here he said I just believe in truth I believe in you know and I said you know what's happened I'm just going to give you my opinion one out of eight billion ready for it he said go I said we have allowed the world to give a Christian the definition of what a Christian is we've let the world put down that definition and now we're molding to what they said who we are come on you can ask ask anybody y'all ain't Christian because a Christian now if y'all's real Christians y'all would be and the whole while they're doing this and I'm like wait hang on a man how you know so much about Christians are you are you one yeah and so why then you mad at me because if you're one then that's you too well now because I believe no you're mad listen I don't have to defend the gospel I didn't die on a cross neither did you you didn't pay the price I didn't what I can do is I can say if I go and I preach to Every Creature I share what I know my experience with other people then if you believe in that you're going to act and respond come on on the day of Pentecost what'd they say what do man Peter's up there and you've got to enjoy said in this and then they went men and Brethren what shall we do hey so I'm glad you asked can you believe this message well yeah we have no doubt because because we hear some 17 languages we hear it in our own tongue what you're saying up there and you're glorifying God what shall we do and he says good repent be baptized boom I'll act on it now that's why there were three thousand added to the church that day I'm convinced now I'm not writing and rewriting the word I'm convinced if they would have been if there would have been a nobility for it to touch more people than just three thousand that word could say ten thousand but they didn't have a good old sound system with an Izzy guy in the corner huh they didn't Peter didn't stand up in front this thing on hello hello hello listen oh hold on Aha and the Lord said you know he didn't have any of that he just simply said come on these guys aren't drunk as you suppose look what time it is but this is that and when he ran into that the multitude gathered there listening they oh my look what we do so in Mark 16 Jesus knew full well who he was talking to and to believe is this to not believe means what and you're going to do what if you don't believe it you'll walk away you'll wash your hands per Adventure God would bring you perhaps God will bring you but if you're not going to believe it don't think for a moment that's shaking the hands all it takes come on that that sinner's prayer man that didn't come along until way Yonder that direction sprinkling you want to get into that come on I'm not here to not talk about all those things I'm just here to tell you that if we're going to grow an Apostolic church it's going to take praying it's going to take planning it's going to take persistence and it's going to take preaching and teaching and if you're sitting there trying to translate this to say well all they got to do is believe fine again y'all call me strange weird because I probably am but I've had conversations in the past and not So Much Anymore Believe It or Not Pentecostalism has exploded in our world and you may notice that all flavors and kinds yeah and who am I as far as I'm concerned if you're out there worshiping Jesus Keep On worshiping Jesus Revelation comes through worship to go worship worship he'll begin to speak as you lift him up he'll draw all right so I worked with a lady years back she said I have the Holy Ghost I said you do did you speak in tongues as the Holy Ghost no because you don't have to I said really but you have the Holy Ghost I do I said prove it how do I do it what do you mean do you have the evidence or you can't just speak and I said okay if you had evidence guess what at a moment's notice you could pull out evidence here that's what I got this is what I saw come on what what watch watch what evidence watch y'all watch for a second what evidence is Sister Eunice do you have grandbabies do you have any evidence what do you what do you have what are you gonna say hold on a second let me show you here's the evidence I ain't got to go to your house I don't have to go to your job you've got all the evidence you need am I right hang on to me a moment if that's the case again Timothy you preach the word app you preach it the app to teach people are going to need to know what's going on in the spirit world for so long I fear that y'all stay with me I fear that in the church family we have misunderstood the Great Commission and we've confused it with what the other part of the world is trying to make us feel like so that basically for you to tell somebody oh see sorry Siri oh I woke her up um you know you wanna you wanna have a great conversation with somebody anybody at all come on you're sitting down somewhere you're talking you're wasting time whatever ask them okay can you help me a second I need to know what it takes to be saved just ask see what they say they may or may not have an opinion I don't know it may strike up a good conversation I don't know they may get up move I want to sit by you anyway that guy's weird he's asking about saving here's my point Jesus was telling them that day Mark put the words down you got to move outside the walls and you've got to begin to share your own testimony and per Adventure if they hear it God will come in and give them opportunity to repent give them a place an altar or they can bow their knee before God and they can say I need deliverance from this notice the power that Jesus gave and that Mark wrote down the sign shall follow them that believe in my name got nothing to do with your name has nothing to do with a church name has nothing to do with my name but it has to do with his name interesting enough is nobody else could have put these words down because there was no other name given among men whereby you had to be saved Jesus only so Jesus said in my name you better use my name what's going to happen you'll cast out devils that's a that's a multitude s Devils it's a plenteous right there hey what else you'll speak with new tongues take up serpents if you drink any deadly thing it won't hurt you lay hands on the sick and they shall recover can I help you second so many times in a church environment a church atmosphere come on you call on the Elders of the church they pray and you shout come on we want that instantaneous boom Pam wheelchair pushed out the door Walker cast aside and a cane lifted up that's what we're looking for right because that includes power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost right I've had surgery before and I didn't like Mary lick of it I did not get out of the hospital bed put my clothes on and go back to work what did I have to take a time to do had to have some time I did and as much as I thought that I could just get up and run I took advantage of the the downtown like when I had covered my lovely wife was so patient with me you sure you don't just need to get up you usually you need to you just need to here's you know you're whining aren't you that's all you just barely at you know you ain't no wrong with you but saying it was I was fine until she come home and I heard her and her daughter come on you think I'm lying where's my where's my daughter my daughter had appendicitis one time and my wife is nothing wrong with you go back to bed go lay down huh listen carefully listen to me and and I'm gonna hit you real hard for just a moments because I love you and I want you to understand the power of the word and the preaching and the teaching and the prayer that you pray every every service without fail I try to follow God's anointing and unction to say this altar is the best place for you to be if you've got a need or a situation if I counsel with you about something that's going on in your life you ask anybody I say the best place for you to be is in an altar why Pro Adventure God will meet you there and touch your life and there's no way that you're going to recover if you don't have an encounter and so listen to me what happens in the church I feel the Lord right now what happened so many times even in an Apostolic church is we pray the prayers we believe God's doing it and God doesn't do it instantly that person walks out the door in the same condition they were in and we stand there scratch our heads and say apparently my faith was weak apparently they weren't ready for it apparently they didn't know and the fact of the matter is this that does not stop your teaching and your preaching and you're doing what God tells you to do you know what the word truth of the fact right here I'll tell it to you if the Lord tells me to pray for somebody I will but if God doesn't raise them up I cannot put that blame on me because I'm not the one that's going to heal them I want to help somebody not you're not the one going to heal them you don't got enough pixie dust you don't have enough anointing anointing on my wife she gets home to me all the time because when I get on the after oil I'll just pour it on my hand man I don't care I'll just pour it on and go go go go and see like honey on her because you know you don't need all grease down and everything I'm saying baby let me tell you something let me tell you something now again something I I don't you do it how you want to I've had old school preacher do this it's the only bottle ever now can God heal with that you better believe it there is no Greater Joy I'll listen to Pastor man No Greater Joy for pastor than for you to get prayed for in an altar and the next service you come in and I've had this happen so many times I got out and got in the car man all I smell was just oh my man what is that smell and instantly you'd say Pastor pray for me it's all it's right there I can still feel it I can still feel it come on I challenge you then to go to the restaurant sit down and all that oil dripping off you let that lady ask you where have you been I've been in the house of God where have you been why you got oil on your head cause I've been prayed for come on dad I tell my wife but sweetheart I go buy another bottle I'll put all the stuff in it and I'll pray over it like I do now that we all realize that there's no there's nothing in this but oil you understand that but I don't want anybody to doubt the power of Prayer listen to me some of you right now have family members co-workers people that you've met and their lives are so messed up and they're so discombobulated it's just all trash I promise I guarantee it if you'll explain to them what Jesus can do get them in the presence of the Lord God can work in their situation and all you'll have to do is preach teach be apt to be able to explain to them the good news of Jesus Christ he will do the work the purpose of preaching is to lead people the purp the relationship with Jesus is the goal that we're looking listen without a preacher without Somebody explain it to them salvation comes by that now the the one Rider even called it what for who foolishness of preaching oh that's a good one exactly what does foolishness of preaching mean I'm here today to explain to you about Jesus not everybody's got to be handy dandy no I'm cereal all right some of y'all got it okay you hear what he called me last time he was here Pastor SLO won amen the foolishness of preaching means what what does it mean to be foolish help me simple what else out of the what out of what would be normal very good somebody else sorry ridiculous we'll take it so oh that's even what that must be Siri very good I appreciate that fact check you know when Siri gets involved without sense what else judgment oh y'all don't even know every Sunday when I get behind this desk up here it don't make no sense and all I know is God you gave me something and I hope to goodness I can somehow deliver it when there's a guest preacher comes up here when one of you ministers are up here preaching I know beyond a shadow of a doubt if you just simply stood up here and you recited the words that you put down something would be missing a void would be dug out of that word but when the anointing and the junction begins to move in your conviction and your love and passion for the word begins to connect people are like man that is so foolish that is out of sorts that is so crazy and the day of Pentecost takes over and somebody says these guys are drunk y'all know I'm a little bit of old old school right because the the my just because of the life that the lord gave me I vividly recall I'll do this I'll tell you this one North American youth congress when they were bringing kids out of the Auditorium where they were having youth congress because the codes people the workers in the Coliseum said y'all got to get these kids out of here it's 11 o'clock we got to close down and I'm standing out on a street corner with the van trying to get my kids put in the van and here they come by the arm loads staggering about come I'm sitting in a van I'm like this is just nuts and there's young folk past that laid out on the concrete on the sidewalk speaking in tongues call that foolish last one I'm watching I got I got a moment my wife and I are coming back with a two van loads of kids from Little Rock Arkansas North American youth congress this would have been one of the first ones second third one I mean it was way back on the red two vanloats and we're on I-40 95. 1995 wow wow that's been a day ago huh sister Kami we're got two Vans coming back from North American youth congress I'm driving one Gary my cousin he's in the back he's got the other one this was pre-cellular phones come on kids didn't I don't wanna I don't want to hurt nobody's feelings but kids didn't sit like this on the van um none of that I had a CB radio 40 channels baby yeah 10 minerals good days yeah we gotta go Channel like nine nobody else is on or whatever right I'm booking down I-40 headed towards Nashville Murfreesboro we're coming across Arkansas into Tennessee kids are singing they're having a great time I mean it's just a good time good good few days and I look back in the rearview mirror and the van that's following me with Gary and the other guys pulls over off the road I'm like Oh my something's happen and I'm watching looking through the mirror over here Michelle's this and she's throwing up because she was anyway she was getting in the way Lauren was born in 96 okay here we go so she's like buddy you can't I'm like I'm just the van back there I don't know what to do and so I whip it around off the exit and I come back and by the time I got past him sister Eunice the van back there was on the side of the road and everybody in the van was out on the grass going berserk and I looked at her I said oh there must be bees or something in there I mean they were this it was it was this all up and down the side there and I'm oh Lord don't let him get don't let the police officer I got to go to the next exit get off turn and come back to figure out what just went on and I finally pull up behind him I got my flashes going these kids I don't know what's happened apparently somebody this this or that something blew up inside and I get up there and I look and every one of them speaking in tongues and just blowing up I said what is going on here and Gary the driver he said Bo I had to pull it over why because they were trying to shout sitting on the church van seats and all they were doing was hitting the roof he said so I felt when they felt it I felt it and I pulled off the road and as soon as I did the band door kicks open and all 12 of them climb out and they're screaming and shouting and worshiping on the side of the road true story am I right so then the people in my van got upset because they was out shouting them let me off and here it goes now there's 28 29 kids out there Hey listen listen carefully I tell you that because when you really understand the power of preaching and teaching your witnessing your testimony you could care less who drives by you when you throw your hands in the air and just loving God it don't have to be in the house of the Lord it doesn't have to be on a Sunday if I can just get to church and worship I'll feel better no it can be standing smack dab in the middle of of Food City it can be on your job hands
