Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The call, and the choosing within it
- He thanks Brother Sam for the sermon and opens with a distinction: there is a difference between the call and the chosen thing that happens in the call.
- Every bit of it is faith: he asks who has the Holy Ghost and recalls the night, day, morning, or camp meeting when something was pulling at them — it began with a step of faith.
- It does not get easier with age; it all starts with faith.
The Midianites and Gideon's men
- He traces the Midianites to Midian, one of the six children Abraham had by the wife he took after Sarah died; though of the same family as Israel, they followed a different path and would not stand responsible for who they were.
- God told Gideon he would deal with them; the kneeling, drinking, and lapping like a dog had nothing to do with who the men were — God was demonstrating to the man of valor who his men would be.
- Skilled, talented, and ready were set aside: God said he did not need that — only obedience — and he would make it happen.
Answer the call
- The call on a life may be as simple as talking to a neighbor or submitting to what God is doing in the family; God has things to show that he cannot show until a step is taken.
- The call pulls, reminds, and says that when nobody else believes in you, God did; something inside drives us to answer it — if the Lord says he needs you to do something, just do it.
Closing prayer
- He thanks God, who still loves, calls, speaks, and draws his people and did not give up on them, and pleads the blood over the congregation.
- He prays for 2025 to be a year of Jubilee, of understanding and rejoicing in the Spirit, with the nation, city, and community primed for an outpouring, and for the church to rise to the occasion.
- He asks protection for the young people as they travel and closes by seeking first the kingdom.
