to pay right i've said many times my dad was a little bitty fella 135 pounds little bitty guy but i was iris had so much respect for him especially when i was 16 sister mandy and i thought i was bigger than him i was physically and i was making myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich standing in the kitchen one day after school minding my own business her and my dad walks behind me getting ready for work and he pokes me in the side picking at me you know everybody knows that man's country term picking at me and i said quit within seconds i was face down on the kitchen floor my arm bent up around my back touching the back of my head my dad was kneed in my back seconds knife flying in the air sandwich on the floor my dad held me there probably 15 seconds i was trying to get loose and he was a little guy and he gently climbed off and he gently stood me up and he spun me around and he looked me right in the eye and he said don't you never forget i am your dad and if you ever disrespect me again and i said but dad he said i said yes sir a couple years later i thought i was really big so i kind of smarted off today you may know what that term means dylan you understand smart off okay don't go there alters for later okay and my dad got about an inch from my snout and he said buddy let me tell you something you rise up all you want to but if you ever hit me you better make sure you kill me because if you don't i will get off that floor and i do not fight fair he walked away and i sat down oh jesus i have the whole world just stopped and i had to go and apologize hug his neck i i mean you know come on your mom and dad know what these teenagers are worth right here's my point i learned respect out of relationship now if you think for one moment that i was in the flesh then he had every right to put me in my position because he loved me because if i ever drew that attitude at a job i was working come on get away from 2021 where you can say and do what you want to not be corrected come on that is that just because the schools are doing it and kids are doing it don't make it right huh because if you ever go that route you remember that you have not only dissed yourself but you have lost all respect for anybody anybody's respect for you and it's a hard thing to get it back that's a good word pastor listen to me carefully legalism what our world says is you guys just take the script i had somebody one time tell me you apostolic you take the literal word what it means and i said what come on all right i need oh i need some help or what's my time i got to stay on my clock here any any men out there that enjoy putting things together come on josh what's the first thing you do when you're putting together a kid's bicycle or something you what yeah you got to move the directions out of the way so you can get to the stuff come on man i just it just makes me mad my wife says i'm going to help you okay what do we do this don't make sense hold on i'm gonna read out loud i'm saying oh lord help me and i know why dylan because when i do it myself josh what do you end up with at the end i got this handful of screw i tell her i thought i said baby they send extras come on i mean you meant logo you got a bucket of extras yeah you might need those probably will stay with me stay with me because the the rule the the the the directions that were given to you were written with that product in mind oh jesus help me now and everything you need to know about that product is going to be described there and they're going to tell you that tab a and that slot b and that d screw and that other screw and that m screws and emulator screws and all that it's going to tell you what it's for you hear me i've put together a desk before and said why can't i get this drawer shut and then when my wife left the room i got the directions out oh man f and g go together not g and i and i gotta take it all apart get it back together before she gets up there here's my point legalism says the law says abcdefg and for many a folk that's exactly what they're looking for so that they can find fault in you because if they find fault in you they have qualified and justified their fault that guy that told me you guys follow the the you just think it's the the you follow it the way it says and i said well what am i supposed to do he said well i thought we lived in grace i said thank you explain grace because you'll never understand grace until you understand the purpose of god's love do i need to remind anybody if you were alive in the old testament day and those 613 laws that were in place if you ever trespassed on one of them they had the right to kill you be mad at somebody now huh and we wonder here we are now man we got all kind of choices and decisions and thoughts you can come to church right now not even be in church you can sit on the back row front row side row it don't matter and then leave the place with the same stinky attitude and the mess you're in walk out that door out there and life just tumbles apart and you wonder why i went to church but for fear of being a legalist saying there are strict rules or there are some guidelines i need to go by you want to walk in the liberty of your choice and that's what puts you in that place in the first place laws lines positions that cannot produce results unless they are followed they are a safety net they are standards i've used this time and time again mercy the one who gives mercy is the only one that can change mercy if you run out in the middle of the street and i tell you don't you run out in that street you'll get hit by a car and you go out on that street and you get hit by a car i laid the law down you made a decision you went out there i'm the lawgiver you went against it and disobeyed i have every right to discipline you don't i because you went against the law but because i'm the one who put the law in place i also have the right to come out and pick you up off the street and show you mercy and gently take you to a hospital let somebody care for you i should be mad because you broke it but instead i can show you mercy when we go to the word of the lord the relationship you have with god listen to me friend if you're looking for an abcdefg you have missed the entire point now are there strict laws yes but hear this again old testament days you couldn't eat meat offered to idols you couldn't touch this you couldn't touch that you couldn't even look at this you couldn't even breathe that you couldn't have this you could not possess that so many of us would have done such a terrible job back then you go in and when you overcome these people you destroy everything in their camp nothing leaves there i know what we'd be doing oh that's gold that's gold right yeah yeah that'll sell any economy oh that's pretty right there i'll just pick that up we already know that story oh come on you want to talk old testament days legalism go against the law you'll die and everybody in your family and just to prove it god will open up the ground and swallow you and put you in and say now say something and the whole camp stand there and go you better listen but now we're in new testament day grace grace we can just mess up and it's okay yeah it is but there's still a price to pay stay with me john chapter 8 31-32 somebody with a loud voice can you read those two verses for me please so when we talk legalism thank you brother when we talk legalism we got to understand that there are some freedoms that we are looking for anybody understand bondage of sin when sins got a hold of you when your past won't let you go when bad past mistakes have uh just just running over the top of you when you're when you're having all the trouble in the world trying to get out from under the reputation that you have set up well then you come to know jesus and you walk into his presence and you feel all this love all this all this compassion you've got tears streaming your your heart's broken you just feel this this this something around you if you understand the pure spirit of god then you understand that if you follow jesus that you'll know truth and what will the truth do for you make you free it will set you free go it makes you free it's a process of working it's a day in and day out lord i need your mercy i need grace in my life today i want to know you lord i'm sorry i messed up again help me to get up lord help me to one more time walk in newness of life through salvation in the name of jesus i'm following after you jesus because i want to know you knowing god and his word will cause you to connect with him and you will want to please him lord what pleases you lord how how can how can i my actions my attitude my spirit my my mindset what i do where i go how i look how i dress how i talk how i wear this how i don't wear that how i do the things lord that i feel in my spirit that i'm trying to draw closer to you so things are working in me how do i how do i do that lord and know that it's pleasing to you truth of the matter is as you will feel that freedom and that liberty that comes from knowing him and serving him knowing god you'll want to please him now there is such a thing and again this is 2021 fact this this may be just a bit odd for some in our generation is there's a moral law what's what's a moral law i'm asking tough questions right what is a moral law what are morals not morons morals huh a what something you believe okay what else that's great what else a standard okay we'll take that what else a law okay yeah what else what's a moral how many did anybody in here have morals go ahead anybody here not have morals talk to you after church you have morals meaning you you have been taught some things in your life you have observed some things and you've learned some lessons in life okay anybody here got brothers and sisters yeah when your brother or sister messed up and they got a whooping what did you learn don't mess up i know i i talk a lot about discipline because those are the easiest lessons we can identify with okay wait wait look anybody who'd like weapons don't go there all right none of us do i'm sorry whoopings south sorry the truth of the matter is this guys the moral law that comes from a spiritual man walking with him it allows you to develop the conscientious thoughts heart intentions to say lord i know this is pleasing to you it is where your heart and your mind begins to align with the things of god i had not long ago somebody told me that they didn't think morals should lead to people and i said morals is exactly what leads people it's what tells that person to pull the trigger or not because they know that there's a price to pay and they want to have faith to believe that if they don't pull the trigger better options are going to come to them you understand i'm saying morals when you're following god knowing him understanding him then like gravity anybody defy gravity yeah for that split second before you hit the ground wiley coyote about a train track a riverbank all of these are limits and boundaries that are put up so that things can function what they're made to function like a train is not made to simply move on the dirt are you with me or as my old pastor used to say a river without banks is what it's a swamp and it stagnates and it stinks the river's got to have banks to lead it to guide it to move it you with me knowing that that's what your your understanding and your biblical perspective comes in and instead of making decisions being led by the flesh you'll start making choices that are led by the spirit amen knowing god now what about christian liberty we talked a few moments about legalism now i want to talk about christian liberty christian liberty three things i want to talk about before my time is up number one freedom from sin you break free from sins bondage what are the wages of sin death you will die there is no way to get around it the wages the payday the hourly wage whatever you want to call it but you will receive for your labor of sin death period the wages of sin is death what happens with the liberty of following jesus christ number one is you have freedom from sin number two you have freedom from the law stay with me the old testament law as i mentioned a moment ago if you transgressed one of them you were held accountable for all of them and it could cost you your life your family whatever so what the spirit of god working in your life what christian christ-like liberty is number one freedom from sin number two the old testament laws are dealt with by the spiritual work in your life and now you are pleasing god by allowing his spirit to lead and guide your steps again back to the guy that said you just believe in the literal word and what it means i said okay where's the old testament come in he said that's exactly my question i said fine explain to me the new testament without knowing the old testament it won't mean anything you think jesus christ came and started everything no what did he say the day the first day when he stood there and he said we want you to read and he got up to read what did he do he rolled it up handed it to him and sat down and the guy went ah you didn't finish it he said because today i have come to fulfill this that was written about i've came to this earth to complete what was talked about therefore listen to me if you're a new testament scholar get out of that for a moment go back to the old testament you'll find them in the ark of noah you'll find them in moses delivering the children of israel you'll find them in every aspect of old testament theology and understanding in history you will find jesus christ there you'll find salvation there you'll find the will and the plan of god there you simply have to do what roll up your sleeves loosen your tie get the shovel out and start digging god what does that word mean in hebrew god what does that word mean in greek if you're a new testament what does this mean lord when you said this help me to understand it come on there's a whole lot of informa lord help me stay on track there's a lot of information out there and you can google the snot out of anything you want to and you're going to get man's perspective the challenge is get your word out kick your shoes off put your phone away and say lord what does this mean because if i can get my mind wrapped around the ark and what's purpose it was and why it took you so long to come and why the rain took 110 years before it fell and all of this if you can get that story understood then the new testament will make sense and grace will make sense to you now y'all i love history because i was there in in my part and i love to go back and read i want to know why how cool is this yeah i won't get into it because of my time but my wife and i last week we we did a historical vacation not a hysterical one but it was anyway and i'll talk more about it sometimes in the future because my mind is so overwhelmed but i love to know why why our country is what it is anybody else ask that question or you care yeah it's just what it is no that's not true i love to get in a conversation with with other guys that are weak-minded like me and and they and i asked and i said if you could have lived in another era another time what would be your choice huh and some guys say cowboys and indians and okay some guys say i'd love to be alive in the days of jesus i'm not me i'd have been dead for i was 20 probably i don't know i would have been cool to see all the things he did okay but mine i i would have loved to been alive in the industrial revolution meanwhile gibson probably been working the same shop because that stuff just makes such cool sense that wheel turns and does this and causes this to move that way and it causes that to go that way if you shift it this way or that way and i'm sitting there going this is the coolest of who thought of this huh stay with me when we talk liberties we understand that god wants us to be free sin will bind you and destroy you but true christian liberty will be you will be able to walk to speak his name to carry his banner wherever you go and his word can be alive in your life number three freedom in non-moral matters obligations from commands given in the old testament to people of god for their protection and their provision like eating meat you realize that every law that god gave the children of israel was to protect them to provide for them and to give them a name huh everybody every story you read in the old testament cool stuff every story you read in the old testament when it comes to the people of god who did and followed god at that time frame because there were many times when they did not follow the law of god and they went out and donated a battle battle fight fight fight and then a king or two later they and they followed the statutes and the laws of god and then everything was good and then somebody come along and do read it it's way history it's just what happens it's very interesting but you realize that everything that god did for them was to protect them to make sure that they were a distinct people you wanna know how far it went now don't get grossed out you wanna know how far it went how detailed god was abraham i make a covenant with you and you're an old man but you need to be circumcised now and every generation pass you to be under the covenant man that's a flesh thing you better believe it that's how much god said i'm gonna take care of you if you'll follow my law see again 2021 what do we want we want to have our cake an ice cream at a party and need it too and we will nobody tell us what to do and holiness is for the old people not for us i mean holiness you know yeah you know that means that you're legalist that means that you're you're giving me a set of rules that i have to follow no it's not it means that you're figuring out how much god loves you and how much he wants to do for you i'm convinced that if you're a holy people god will be a holy god for you and you will blow people's minds about what god has done through you to you and for you christian liberty concerning the non-moral matters listen to this if you'll do everything to god's glory everything as unto the lord you avoid anything that is not beneficial to your body think it through you avoid things that can gain dominion over you and lastly you avoid anything that would harm others you think through things pastor i don't have a problem with this you may not but the generation coming behind you may don't ever forget that the generation coming behind you will always be a little lower than you and their standards and what's required of them you don't believe it go to waffle house brand new waffle house on each brainerd excellent restaurant i love waffle house sorry i do but they're open from seven to two and i'm like are you kidding me i'm hungry at 205. fine i'll go to hardee's seven to two come on we all we're smart and got all that education where's the workers now i know i'm touching the nerve because it's our culture out here well it's because of this it's because of that it's because of this it's because of that no bottom line responsibility accountability pay for your own way oh lord help me stay out of trouble brother john come on please help me down at the bottom there's some verses i wrote there i want you if you will take this this is your paper this is given to you for you uh galatians 5 16 7 hebrews 10 16 17 romans 6 15-23 these are some some instructions that you can use when we talk holiness this whole lesson tonight i've talked about two things basically legalism and liberty the reason is is because we have to understand something church being apostolic is not simply about the sign on the door hear me it's not about the length of your sleeve or your skirt or your hair it's not about any of that it's about your relationship with god and then through that you will begin to feel the power of the word of god work in you and you will know god is this pleasing to you or not because if it doesn't please god you better let it go you better turn it loose young folk you better learn how to love jesus if nobody else does that is a challenge and a quandary for every teenager how to be holy in an unholy world i'm going to give you some examples because all of us adults have been through it how many of you adults out there were perfect when you were in high school teenager i know it's hard to believe challenges now i can tell i survived y'all won't like it it was sunday morning church sunday night church sunday afternoon church at my grannies might as well ben it was prayer meeting wednesday night bible study friday night youth service it was youth rallies it was conventions it was conferences it was camps it was every opportunity that we could to be together with god's people anybody else if you identify raise your hand how'd you turn out well we're still trying to figure that out right but here's the point this generation now that's coming along it's sunday one time wednesday possibly an occasional event otherwise that's it what do you think this generation is going to have i have nieces now that are teenagers that do not understand going to church you go with all them people why that's weird well what's not weird volleyball games soccer games going skating going to hang out at the mall that's not weird but going to church is weird yeah because i don't know them how many people at the mall do you know i mean you don't want to know if you know that one would you please go over and tell them to pull their pants up i'm just joking i'm just joking and ask that one while they're in pajamas in the mall come on 2021 am i the weird one here pastor just old school you better you better believe it and i know that all the struggles that i still have that i need to be in the house of god every every chance i get young person if you're just simply trying to bide your time until mom and dad tell you you can make your own decision you better fall in love with god now because if you're ever out in that world by yourself what you gonna do holiness needs to show in you in every level of your life through your mistakes your faults failures you're on the floor you're getting up your scuffed knees your burnt elbows all the junk and the garbage of life you need to constantly be saying lord i still want to love you and serve you i still want that reflection to become clearer and clearer and clearer because if i can please you god i'm looking to hear two words well done stand with me please now for those of you that are interested i have two more lessons next week and some of the last week i'll touch on some specific things that you and i would consider to be standards and a standard we've already talked about right couple weeks ago what i say a standard was it's a flag it's a banner that's the standard it's what represents okay when you see the stars and stripes what do you think to be an american it's a banner i don't the lord wants us to be his representation on earth a standard so we're going to talk about those things because i know many of you have questions about that why we got to wear that why can't we go there why don't we do that i tell anybody somebody comes to me and say why can't you drink smoke do drugs i said you can do all you want to go blow your mind whatever but you will have to pay for that somehow some way so go well the bible doesn't say thou shalt not well okay then go do it and see what happens come on get away from the rules and the what you can't what you shall not and how come it's mean and all why don't you get up under the blessings lord every time i get in the altar i feel the glory of god and i feel the liberty of your spirit and i can breathe in your presence therefore i want to be holy i want to be holy god i don't want to be on the fence lord wondering if i can live for the world here and then try to get a little bit church there because i sure don't want to go to hell god but the truth is when the trumpet sounds you will not have time to make a choice put your hands in the air right now everybody let's pray together lord we are thankful that you're holy and you're calling us to be holy reflections of you i i pray right now for the church i pray lord for cornerstone apostolic church help us lord jesus to love you because of who you are to love you and to have relationship with you because your name is glorious to want to draw closer to you and be a reflection of you god help us lord to want to be found doing your will or to set some priorities in our lives some boundaries some limits help us god to want to run to you lord and to understand you and to not just hide in the fence oh lord but help us god to stand firm for you you will bless lord you will provide lord you will give instruction dear god you will bless our homes lord you will bless our individuals our children lord our babies lord your hand can be upon them because of holiness and choices we make lord i pray for the church let us have a blessed week this week bring us back lord this weekend i pray for our children lord let them receive the holy ghost this weekend let there be holy ghost explosion dear god i pray for it in the name of jesus bless our evangelists that are coming lord we know god there will be power and demonstration of your word in jesus name we pray before you go home can you give him a handclap of praise i love you jesus i love you jesus i believe in you jesus i trust in
