Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

A timely word, and the dots through history

  • He thanks Brother Vandy and calls it a timely word from the Lord, asking the church to thank God for the power of the word.
  • He urges them to connect the dots presented through history, observing that we forget why things happened as they did.

Why the seventy went to Egypt

  • The seventy did not go to Egypt for a party or for better lights; they went for the survival of the family, living moments from death because they did not have what was necessary.
  • God provided, and they began to grow; the Pharaoh who came along later said he had no idea who this fellow was — the only thing he saw was their blessings — and acted on that, not realizing he was about to make the same desperate situation for himself.

Every step closer, and the question

  • As a teenager he stayed late to pray for one reason: God was pulling and they were yielding; the youth group spent hours at the church, and out of that desperation to be in God's presence, God began to speak to them.
  • Of the roughly thirty in that youth group, only a handful still live for God; every step he took closer to God drew him to another step — the mission field and its miracles, his wife, his children.
  • Every person in the house has been a recipient of the miraculous; his question is what you do with what you've seen — it was not just for you, it was for somebody else to see too.

His mother's prayer heritage

  • This week he was reminded of a heritage of generations past: his old mother praying for him, speaking in tongues; sitting with her on the couch under hospice care, her hand raised, he prayed it would never get old to him.
  • He asked God not to let his children be embarrassed when he does the same as he grows older: if that stops, the next generation will know nothing about it, until a child generations later steps up and asks to be told who God is.

Prayer together, and the dismissal

  • He sends them to one another — men to find a man, ladies a lady, young people too — explaining that he does this about every service so they learn the value of the brothers and sisters in the house of God.
  • He leads the prayer: pleading the blood of Jesus over them, asking for an unction and an anointing that would destroy the yoke, and a fire and desire for the supernatural things of God as they reach for the next generation.
  • He closes by asking God to lead them in the plain path and let them pour themselves into his will, then dismisses them to encourage two or three people before leaving and to remember the calendar of events.
