- Rex Johnson — pastor at Austin, Texas, by his own account thirteen years there, and a junior-high-school friend of this church's pastor from the neighbourhood of the old Prospect Street house — preaches the set time of favour: the Lord has made an appointment with His church, and a man who takes pleasure in her stones and finds favour in her dust will not miss it. - **A destiny meeting.** He felt it on Monday evening at the pastor's home, in the preaching on Tuesday night, and all day yesterday: this is a destiny meeting, and the message just heard takes away all fear — we are what we are by the grace of God. A story makes the laugh: the three-legged chickens bred for a family that all loved the drumstick, never caught and never tasted — something has been bred in the hearts of these people that will have them running hard after they leave here. He thanks the Alexandria church, the kindest bunch of people, where everybody is a servant; he gives honour to the Mangun family for their lives, drives his wife past the street where he first came to see Anthony as a junior in high school, and tells how they ran the horses to water after playing ball — and killed Anthony's. He is honoured to have his wife and two of his precious daughters with him — never before able to come because of school — and gives honour to his staff. Then he announces his text, the psalm of the set time, and reads its promise: thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion, for the time to favour her — the set time — is come, for thy servants take pleasure in her stones and favour the dust thereof; read, and read again. And that is his subject: excuse me, please, I have an appointment; don't bother me, I have a destiny in my life; I've got an appointment with somebody special.
- **Chippy, and the psalm of the bad day.** A parakeet named Chippy never saw it coming: sucked into the vacuum cleaner while the owner answered the phone, washed under the faucet, and blasted with the hair dryer, he doesn't sing much anymore — he just sits and stares; and that's enough to steal joy from the stoutest heart. The prophet was having one of those chippy days: the afflicted prayer of a man asking God not to hide His face in the day of his trouble — days consumed like smoke, bones burned as a hearth, heart smitten and withered like grass, bones cleaving to skin, a pelican of the wilderness, a sparrow alone on the rooftop, drink mingled with weeping. But then he stops: that's enough about me — but thou, Lord, shalt endure forever; thou shalt arise and have mercy upon the church, for the time to favour her, the set time, is come. David said the Lord has made an appointment with the church, a divine visitation, and whatever I am going through, I am not going to miss it. He tells of a boy he prayed through six years ago, off drugs and out of the rock-and-roll world on one thesis: if you'll show up, dress up and show up, God will show out.
- **The anointing, and the prophetic voice.** David could vividly remember the day at Jesse's house, when the servant fetched him from the field and the Lord said to Samuel, arise, anoint him, for this is he — touch your neighbour and say, I'm touching anointed right now. The devil doesn't mind where you came from; he minds where you're headed, and what you're headed there with. Teaching a Bible study just the other day, he had been reading the Acts chapter where a whole city got happy: Philip baptised the whole city in the name of the Lord, Peter and John came down and laid hands on them, and the whole town got the Holy Ghost — maybe we need to start thinking city, counties, parishes. Simon wanted to buy that power, and Peter said, thy money perish with thee; the devil has never sent the Holy Ghost, and he couldn't even buy it. Then the survey of David's battles: anointed, he fights the giant; the distressed and discontented gather to him in the cave; later he despairs of his own life at Saul's hand — because his prophetic voice had died; the men he brought in got their spirit on him instead of him getting his spirit on them. You've got to have a prophetic voice in your life. And so to the prophet's word to David in the cave, which he has thrown up on the screen: abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah — he didn't say go to Judah, or to the border of Judah; he said get into.
- **Get into Judah — praise is something you are.** Some of us have gone to the border of Judah to try to get out of the cave, but you can't live on the border; there's a difference in shouting here and shouting in your house on Monday morning — praise is not something that I do; praise is something that I am. The priest who escaped the slaughter brought the linen ephod in his hand and gave it to David; forty years later David had taught him something: ephods are not to hold and wave — ephods are to wear. If he can raise your praise out of bed on Monday morning, you can say this is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice. He tells of playing golf with a legendary football coach and a famous country singer, neither name dropped, and singing with the singer to the ninth green while the coach sang of the morning when all the saints gather — I don't do that in Alexandria, but I'll do that in Austin, Texas, because I'm a praiser; I wear it, I live it. Praise is an attitude; praise is a garment: I traded my mourning for gladness, a spirit of heaviness for a garment of praise — this is what I am; it's my lifestyle, my occupation.
- **Hush, child — God ain't dead.** Jesus comes to Bethany, and there are dead folk: Martha comes fussing — Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died — and goes back for Mary, who says the exact same words, but she fell at His feet and said it, and that is the difference between Him saying take me to the grave and everything else: one approached Him argumentatively, and the other approached Him praisefully. You can tell God just about anything you want to tell Him if you'll just praise Him; you'll get more delighting yourself in the Lord than debating with Him. A painting in a gallery made his motto: a burned-down mountain shack, nothing standing but the brick chimney, a grandfather in long-handle underwear and a grandson looking up for what he would say — and the caption: hush, child, God ain't dead. Say it to somebody: you don't know what I've been through — hush, child, God ain't dead; you're not wearing this, you're just waving it; start wearing it. Then the apostle's own words, as he gives them: we have this treasure in earthen vessels — troubled on every side, yet not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. Excuse me, please — I have an appointment, and I'm going to have the revival God wants me to have this year.
- **Favour — the leg, and the sons of God.** Satan is not omniscient; he works from the average human response, and when you don't respond the way he thinks you ought to, it messes him up — you can't keep a praiser down. What do you do with a man that won't stay dead? On that third morning Jesus was not lying in the prone position when the angel rolled the stone away; He was at the door with His get-up-and-get-out clothes on, just waiting for the stone to be moved. The apostle besought the Lord three times about the thorn, and was told, hush — my grace is sufficient; and the queen from Sheba lost her breath not at Solomon's wisdom or his table but at how he ascended to the house of the Lord to worship: praise ought to rub off on everybody you meet. Then the point about favour: an ex-NFL player in his church walks well but favours a particular leg, because somebody put something in it that wasn't original — a fourteen-inch steel plate — and the whole world doesn't have in their leg what he's got in his. God loves the whole world, but He favours Zion: one day I opened my heart and let Him put something in me that the world has not received. And he has the text thrown up and read with the congregation: behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. You may love Jesus with everything in you, but get this in your heart: Jesus loves you; you are favoured of God.
- **Stones and dust.** The appointment is twofold: we take pleasure in the stones, and we find favour in the dust. At the wailing wall, families have their prescribed spot, a particular stone, and an honour system for it. A long time ago he found a stone that was set at nought of the builders and has become the head of the corner, and he'll wait his turn before that stone before he bows to any other god: his name is Jesus, and I'm going to preach Jesus, because I have an appointment with Jesus. The congregation confesses it together — one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, above all, through all, and in all — and it was that name he called on in the psalm that came to his aid. Then the vacuum cleaner comes out — no, Chippy ain't in it this time — and he is holding dust from the Pentecostals of Alexandria: not dust from a bar or a nightclub, but dust from people who have walked in here and blessed the name of the Lord. I didn't have a lineage; I didn't have a heritage; but when you baptised me in your name and called me to preach, you couldn't keep me away from church. I love church; I love every preacher and every saint in church. Fifteen ex-prisoners were in his church last Sunday, and he loves dust — nursery dirt, vestibule dirt, people-that-need-to-be-converted dirt. If you ever lose your passion for people and want to keep your hands clean, you're in the wrong business. We ought to have the biggest love session we've had in this church: turn around and hug somebody and say I love you. And then his own voice carries a word to the house: submit yourselves to your brother, embrace each other as I embrace you, and let nothing come between you; extend your love and mercy and grace to whoever comes through your doors, and you shall see joy in your life.
- **The close — don't be so tough on one another.** Almighty God allowed Israel forty years of wandering, knowing they'd never come in, and manna fell every morning, clothes never wore out, shoes never got too small, a cloud every day and a pillar of fire every night — and they never made it. Why are we so tough on one another because we have a little difference? Give me some space and let me give you some space; fall in love with the stone and favour the dust — he's not talking about sinners; he's talking about preachers. What keeps us apart is jealousy; we're in competition with one another, and it's killing us. David fed his enemy's son at his table till the day he died; the Lord fed five thousand, and only twelve remained, but He fed them. Please excuse me — I have an appointment; I favour the dust, and I honour the stone; I love you. about told you about those Indians brother Baker told me last night he said I got a neat illustration for you brother Rex he said tell him about two Indians in New Mexico Co I'm honored to see you here today it's a joy to be standing in this place this is a wonderful Awakening in the United Pentecostal Church this meeting is a destiny meeting I felt it on Monday evening when I went to Brother Anthony and sister Mickey's home yes I felt it when he preached on Tuesday night I felt it all day yesterday and last evening and the message that I just heard from this wonderful man of God is a destiny message it is a message that just kind of takes away all the fear you just don't have to be afraid we are what we are by the grace of God and I am here a part of a conference that has Destiny written all over it we're here a part of it I'm not trying to be funny but I read I read a story about a man who was driving down a country road one day and saw this chicken running alongside the fence and he sped up and that chicken sped up and he sped up a little more and the chicken sped up and he got up to about 70 M an hour and the chicken was still running with him and he passed The Farmhouse and the chicken ducked in the gate and went up to The Farmhouse and he stopped and he said I've got to go talk to that farmer about that chicken and he went up and knocked on the door of that Farmer's house and he said sir I just had a chicken outrun me at 70 M hour he said oh yeah you're talking about that three-legged chicken he said my wife and myself and my boy we all love the drumstick and so we bred some three-legged chickens and he said well how do they taste the traveler asked him he said I don't know we hadn't caught him yet I think the father of light may have created something in us that's going to have us running hard after we leave here tonight there's something been bred in the hearts and in the lives of you people that's going to have us running hard amen turn to somebody and say brother Rex Johnson's going to be himself today if that ain't enough I'm sorry thank you brother Anthony thank you Alexandria church for being so kind Lord this is the kindest bunch of people y'all are so kind everybody is a servant in this church thank you thank you thank you I am honored to be around people that love people it's neat to be around people that love people it makes you want to love people more and I want to I want to thank brother GA Mangan for his life and sister Vesta Mangan for her life I drove my wife by 10 Prospect yesterday I know I'm taking part of my 55 minutes no I don't want and I said I came to see Anthony right here when I was a junior in high school right and Philips has lived right there Lord that house looked
little and Anthony and I rode some horses we rode some horses here that year and Anthony's died cuz Anthony was going to out run my horse when we got through running those horses we took them straight to the water and we just watered them down because that's what we do when we got through playing ball just go get the water I hope that good Brothers in this church still don't hold that against us but we ran those horses and killed Anthony's mine lived M Anthony's won and we did him well at the funeral I'm honored to have brother Tenny here brother Barnes brother Williams I'm honored to see these men my assistant general superintendent brother Keys is in the building it's good to see everybody I want to preach today from The Book of Psalms chapter 102 if you have your Bibles with you Psalms chapter 102 the I want to say that it is an honor to have my sweet wife and two of my precious daughters here with me today they have never gotten to come to because of the times because of school I have a daughter that's a freshman in college and one that's a sophomore in high school and I have a married daughter back home and she's a mother and I'm a grandfather Anda and I cut my hair shorter than I used to when I had the clown look I got so tickled at me on that on that video last night Lord I was ugly but I give honor to them I give honor to my staff I have a fabulous youth pastor and his wife here Jonathan Alicia Moore I have a wonderful Church administrator brother Russ Crips here who is also from this church let's give these folks a good hand if you don't mind my family I love them the prophet said it this way in verse 13 Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion for the time to favor her yay everybody say the set time the set time is come for thy servants take pleasure in her stones and favor the dust thereof Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion or the church for the time to favor her yay everybody say the set time set time is come is my subject excuse excuse me please I have an appointment if you don't mind don't bother me I have a destiny in my life excuse me please I've got an appointment with somebody special okay clap your hands and say I'm going to make that appointment I'm going to make that appointment you may be seated his name was chippy he was a parakeet and he never saw it coming one second he was peacefully perched in his cage the next he was sucked in washed up and blown over the owner decided one day to clean the cage that chippy stayed in with the vacuum cleaner she removed the attachment from the end of the holes and stuck it in the cage and she had barely got in the cage when the phone rang she turned to pick up the phone and barely said hello when chippy got sucked in the owner gasped hung up the phone turned off the vacuum opened up the bag and there was chippy still still alive but
stunned dust and soot she grabbed him raced him to the bathroom turned on the faucet and held the bird under the running water then realizing chippy was about to drown she pulled him out underneath the water soaked and shivering then she did what any compassionate burn odor would do she reached for the hair dryer and blasted that little parakeet with hot air chippy never knew what hit him few days later the reporter who wrote about the event contacted the owner to see how the bird was recovering well the owner replied chippy doesn't sing much anymore he just sits and stares not hard to see why when you get sucked up or sucked in washed up and blown over that's enough to steal Joy from the stoutest heart that sits here today the prophet David was having one of those kind of chippy days in the Book of Psalms chapter 102 okay he was praying what the writer cause an Afflicted prayer one of those woe is me help me God prayers he was asking God for some specific things and the main thing was God I don't want you to hide your face from me in the day of my trouble right one writer called this Psalm 102 the psalm of Gethsemane another wrote it as a Messianic passage that someone was looking for help so desperately it was as if the Lord was praying in Gethsemane himself the prophet said my days are consumed like smoke my bones are burned as a hearth he said my heart is smitten I'm withered like grass I forget to eat my bread he said my bones cleave to my skin I'm like a pelican of the Wilderness I'm like an aisl of the desert I'm like a sparrow on the rooftop I'm all alone and I'm very lonely he said I am like a shadow I mingle my drink with weeping I'm having one of those bad days but then he stops and he says that's enough about me that's enough about me you've heard enough of my groanings he said but thou Lord shall endure forever I want to stop right here and declare to you whomever you are whatever you came to this conference in whatever state you walked in the doors in you write one thing down thy Lord will endure forever turn to your neighbor and say I may be going through something but when I get through hearing this word today I'm going to understand that there's a God that is the same yesterday today and forever and he will endure forever yes he will and David said I'm not going to be able to get up but he said Thou shalt arise oh Lord everybody say he's going to arise and he said you're going to have mercy upon the church for the time to favor her yay yay the set time is come David said Lord you have made an appointment with the church a Divine visitation and I I don't care what I'm going through I don't care what I'm up against I don't care what the situation is you made the appointment and I'm not going to miss it I prayed an old boy through six years
ago in our church and I just taught him a concept if you'll show up dress up and show up God will show out and that boy has lived a life off of drugs and out of the rock and roll World on that thesis you may not feel like going where you want to go in God but if you'll dress up and show up you watch God Arise he has an appointment a set time and I'm not going to miss that appointment Hallelujah David could vividly remember that day at Jesse's house when he was just a young boy and a servant came and caught him in the field and said David there's a strange looking fella over at your daddy's house and he sent me to get you because he has passed by your brothers on two occasions and he can't find anybody to pour the oil on so he sent me to get you and when David comes right out of the field woo the Bible said that the Lord said to Samuel arise and anoint him for this is he reach over and touch your neighbor and say I'm touching anointed right now come on I'm touching the anointed right now I don't know how it happened in your life I don't know where it happened in your life but one day an anointing came down on every one of us can I tell you something the devil don't mind where you came from he Minds where you're headed and what you're headed there with the anointing oh I feel like preaching here today woo the Bible said that the spirit of the Lord came upon him yeah from that day forward everybody say I never shall forget the day when it came on me that's what the devil despises about you something came on you that he didn't give you Hallelujah I was teaching a Bible study the other day and maybe you've seen it 150 times and I haven't but in the acts the 8th chapter is one of my favorite chapters in the whole new testament is Acts chapter 8 because a whole city got happy I'd like to have a whole church get happy Philip baptized the whole city in the name of the Lord and Peter and John came down and laid hands on him brother Anthony and the whole town got the Holy Ghost and and and and I've been reading that at that chapter just a whole lot maybe I need to tell you something maybe we need to get start thinking outside the walls of our church maybe we need to start thinking City maybe we need to start thinking counties maybe we need to start thinking parishes get bigger in your thinking not in my notes just a thought let me preach and Simon came up when he saw the Holy Ghost being poured out and he said I want to buy that Peter said your money perish with you let me tell you something folks the dev never has sent the Holy Ghost people say tongue talking of hell no no no no no the devil has never sent the Holy Ghost he couldn't even buy it in Acts the 8th chapter every good and perfect gift cometh down from the father of light in whom is's no variableness nor shadow of turning the anointing is what he despises cuz it destroys the yoke he's anointed in 16 in 17 he fights Goliath everybody say he fights Goliath Goliath in 22 just a few chapters later 400 men come to a cave called adalum they're all distressed they're all discontented they're all in debt in chapter 27 of that same gospel he said one day I Shall Perish by the hand of Saul what happened the men that he brought in got their Spirit on him instead of him getting his Spirit on them and the reason why you hear me I'm going to tell you the reason why is because his prophetic voice died in
25 Samuel died let me tell you something brother Tenny said it and I'm going to repeat it you've got to have a prophetic voice in your life if you're out there on an island by yourself you're going to go the way of All Flesh you'll die by the hand of Saul you got to have somebody to lay hands on you every now and then you got to have somebody to sit down and break bread with you every now and then you got to have somebody in Chapter 30 in Chapter 30 zigg lag was burned and his wives were taken great distress the speak people spake of ston in him Abigail one of his wife was named Abigail because her name meant source of Joy aam means gracious he lost Grace and joy at Zig lag lot of of us are happy you are called and anointed today but I'm telling you hell isn't happy three things happened after his anointing a personal battle everybody say a personal battle personal battle a church battle Church Battle and a family battle battle if the devil can't get you with Goliath yeah he'll try to get you through your church if he can't get you through your church he'll try to get you through your family but can I tell you the spirit of God Came Upon him that day and stayed the rest of his life God is able to give you something on that day of your anointing that'll keep you that it will keep you it'll keep you in your personal conflict it'll keep you in your church conflicts it'll keep you in your family conflicts woo 1st Samuel chapter 22 and 5 if you can throw it up there brother I wish you would I didn't put it on my thing but if you can throw it up there 1st Samuel 22:5 when David was in that cave of adalum when he was there a Prophet came and said don't stay here watch this now abide not in the hold depart everybody say depart depart get out of this cave here's what I'm fixing to preach and get thee everybody say into into the land of Judah he didn't he didn't say go to Judah he didn't say go to the border of Judah he said get into there's a difference in going to something and getting into something I'm fixing to preach what I preach best and what I live some of us have gone to the border of Judah to try to get out of adalum but you can't live it just on the border you got to get into you can't just stop at the border of being a praiser you've got to get I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings the fruit's all gone but I'm going to tell you something there is a different in shouting here and shouting in your house on Monday morning praise is not something that I do praise is something that I am somebody needs to get into Judah if God has anointed you he has appointed you but you got to get into a lifestyle of praise
AAR the priest brought the linen ephod in his hand from the city of KN he was the only one that escaped the slaughter of 86 priest and the Bible said he had it in his hand and he said I escaped and he gave David the ephod but 40 years later David had taught him something ephods are not to hold and wave eods are to wear praise is not something you do praise is something you are and this may not get a big excited cheer but if I can get you up on Monday morning if I can raise your praise out of bed on Monday morning and you can say this is the day that the Lord has made we will rejoice yes yes sir brother Morgan goes fishing I don't he's coming to preach us the Revival of our Church's history this spring he's felt in the Holy Ghost I feel it in the Holy Ghost there's a connection but I play golf I'm coming out of my closet you know brother Tenny I preached camp meeting for y'all last summer and I kissed you you had a problem with it you just kissed him have you changed I was playing golf the other day with a legendary football coach that I love very much and we're not name dropping but he's an awesome man he's my buddy he's coming to my church this year for the first time I've been in Austin 13 years he's promised to come on our anniversary Sunday this year he and his precious wife his wife was raised with my mother in a Pentecostal Church long time ago in Oklahoma he heard her uncle baptized my grandparents in the name of the Lord Jesus with us was a was a famous country music singer and it could be easy to get intimidated around those kind of people but you know what when you have the Lord you just grin and praise and me and the country music singer both bogy ho number eight and I got in the cart and I said we'll understand it oh by by didn't know I could do that did you and he started singing brother Anthony and we sung on the ninth T and we sung to the ninth green and when we got on the ninth green the coach was saying bye and bye when the morning comes when all the saints you know what I don't do that in Alexandria but I'll do that in Austin Texas cuz I'm a praiser I wear it I live it that's what I am you got to get up I'm not trying to bring a response out of this crowd for here I'm trying to give you something that'll detonate two weeks down the road yes on praise is an attitude yeah I like it too praise is a garment somebody asked me one day said are you always happy I said no but before I leave the house I am because I refuse to let a world see a
representative of Jesus Christ sad I traded my morning for gladness I traded a spirit of heaviness for a Garment of Praise this is what I am it's my lifestyle it's my occupation Jesus comes to Bethany John 11 and he's got a little problem there some dead folk brother Anthony I'm so honored I'm the only nonth bread you got preaching in this conference but I'm glad God loves mongr that's a truth that's a fact Jesus comes to Bethany we got a Lazarus generation on her hand there's a lot of dead folks out there and Martha comes to meet him and she goes to fussing Lord if you had been here my brother had not died he said Martha you know the story your brother will rise again she said I know that on that day he said Martha I am the resurrection so Martha I never see where Jesus asked for Mary you never read where Jesus asked for Mary but she goes to the house she said the master has come and he calls for you Martha got sick of the Lord's argumentative spirit with her she couldn't one up Jesus she could run the house but she can't run up one up Jesus so Mary comes out there 21 Martha says if you had been here my brother had not died in 32 Mary says the exact same words BBA him the only difference was she fell at his feet and said it and the difference of him saying take me to the Grave yeah where you've laid him Y and go get your sister that he told Martha was the fact that one approached him argumentatively and the other approached him praiseful I'm here to tell you you can tell God just about anything you want to tell him if you'll just praise him if you'll just praise him if you'll just praise him if you'll just praise him you'll get him to the Grave where the dead folk are you get more delighting yourself in the Lord than you do debating with him I read a story about a man said he wasn't a connoisseur of great art but from time to time he said a painting or a picture would really speak very clear to him and he said there was a time when he went into a a gallery of of photos and pictures paintings and he said he saw a picture of a of an old Mountain Shack that had been burned to the ground and the only thing standing was the brick chimney it's the only thing left and there was soot and smoke and debris everywhere there was an old man looked like a grandfather with long handle underwear on holding a pair of coveralls and a young man looked like a grandson standing beside him and with hope in his eyes he's looking up at his grandfather to see what you going to say to me about this and the caption under the picture sweaty faces and burned down buildings and chimney left the caption on the picture is what I become my motto in our church the caption said hush child God ain't dead I want you to turn to somebody and say I don't know how you came to this meeting but but I want to tell you hush child God ain't dead I want you to say hush child God ain't dead I want you to say hush child God ain't dead but you don't know what I've been through I said hush child God ain't dead you don't know where I've been I said hush child God ain't dead you don't know what happened to me last year I said hush child God ain't dead you don't understand all I I said hush child God ain't dead you're not wearing
