Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
A vision every department carries
- Following the media team's presentation, he owns that he is 'the least technical person out there' and has the church stand as the night transitions.
- He thanks the pastor for a vision that gives every person in the church a part to take hold of, and for trusting him to teach on it.
- The department leaders who presented carry a real burden for what they do, and it falls to the whole team to pick that burden up with them.
Siloed: communication on a single line
- Taking up pieces of string, he pictures each line as a department: our communication, frustrations, time, and information usually run only along the line of the people we are working with at the moment.
- People sometimes switch departments because of a problem somewhere else, yet their communication still never leaves the new line.
- People get 'siloed' — isolated inside their own department — and isolation produces frustration and the reflex to blame another group: if they would just do it this way.
The web that feels every vibration
- He has the strings thrown across the room into a spider web — his 'matrix' of communication: connected out, and connected in.
- In a web, a touch anywhere is felt everywhere: when something happens in one member's life, even someone far across the room feels its vibrations and can respond.
- Working in teams, the church must be conscious and purposeful about staying connected; left to itself, the team drifts into isolation and frustration.
Building together, with love and kindness
- He closes his part by handing the night to Lauren: structure, building, and growth involve every member, and the church has to communicate with one another with love and with kindness.
- He announces that Lauren will teach the True Colors part — the session on communication styles and working together — next.

it is a whole lot of work but it's something that even if you even if you don't think you're technical you can you can learn right i mean there's there's differing aspects of it now yeah i'm an example i am the least technical person out there so uh now if you would stand with me i we are we're gonna transition this just a little bit i'm very thankful that we have a pastor that has a vision and i'm very thankful that he has given us the opportunity to take part of that vision each and every one of us he's given us uh i mean from from the time of of pastor of you trusting trusting me to to even just teach on something i mean lord jesus sometimes i don't even know what i'm gonna say all right so you know like y'all are like sitting back hanging on what's he gonna say next my poor wife she tells me to be quiet all the time but and then for each one of us each one of our department leaders that's that's a vision i don't know if you guys felt it tonight these guys have a burden for what they do it's it's on us to to pick up that but i do have i have a matrix and then we're going to get into uh this true colors thing that i'm not going to do because i don't i don't really know how to do it so lauren's going to teach that part but there is there is a there's a we talked about structure we're talking about organizing and if you would uh everybody everybody grab ahold a piece of a string dan if you wanna you can scoot that one on out for me and then this one you can tyler if you can scoot that one out pastor will you come up here and and hold these maybe all right and now everybody everybody kind of spread out and grab everybody kind of space yourselves out and grab onto a string all right all right there's another string over here you can you can come up this way these these don't have anything to do with the true colors all right sorry all right everybody grab onto a string uh if you can pull it tight don't break it ah that's all right just pull it back up here all right so this is what we would call in a in an organization this would be like conflict a breakdown in communication all right i'm gonna i'm gonna use these to go around these this is a this is a breakdown right so if you think about this each line let's just think about it as a department okay this is sort of a concrete abstract uh look at something all right if we if we we think about it usually our lines of communication sometimes people have to switch departments because they're a problem somewhere else okay that's just yeah we get it our lines of communication generally involve those who we're working with at the moment does that make sense these these are the people i'm hanging out with this week this is who i'm talking to these are the people right in our lines of communications our frustrations our our time together or all that our information it revolves around that line around that department and that's it we get has anyone ever heard the term siloed we get siloed in what we're doing we get we just get isolated and a lot of times and you you may have never come across this all right but i've worked a couple different places and uh there's always that that one person or that group that well if they would just do it this way or if they would right there's right there's always that and maybe maybe we've been that i don't know i'm just i'm not not pointing fingers here but that is a result of being isolated frustration lack of communication lack of working together because we've one for one reason through culture or whatever for one reason or other isolation has occurred all right but but look at this go ahead go ahead and go to go to ethan all right ethan toss it on over there awesome to them the lawrence's or something like that so this and keep keep going this this is a spider web thank you christian it's a spider web a spider web is it's it's connected out that was close y'all it's connected out but guess what it's connected in when i when when something happens when a fly steps gets caught in one part of the web it doesn't matter where that spider's at it knows it feels those vibrations so tighten tighten the strings up as good as you can without breaking them if if a shake right here you see it's not just the center point that fills it but this person can then communicate they're all the way over here all the way over there and all the way over there so if if sister see akilah back here is way far away from dan guess what if something happens in in dan's life she feels the vibrations of that how that affects her this is it's just a model it's just a matrix but it's a of communication but as we work in teams as we structure ourselves as we grow these are items these are things that if we're not conscious about if we're not very purposeful about doing we'll become isolated and we'll become frustrated so i'm done with my part lauren lauren you come we we've been talking about structure we've been talking about building and growth and building the church but it involves each and every one of us we have to communicate with one another with love with kindness and and lauren's gonna she's she's had everybody take a true colors test if you uh if you did if you didn't just make up something this is about our communication styles and are working together you guys can drop your cords i'll pick them up don't go back to your seat all right stay where you're at you can just drop it and i'll pick this up
