Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Windows in the Bible

  • He begins with the window itself: an ordinary thing, taken for granted until you need one to get into or out of somewhere.
  • Noah's ark had one window; when the rain stopped, Noah opened it and let out a bird, and to the family shut inside it was like a breath of fresh air.
  • When the spies came into Jericho, Rahab let them escape through a window — a way of escape for them, and for her a window of opportunity and hope.
  • David's wife helped him escape through a window while he fled from Saul, but she later watched from a window and judged him as he danced before the Lord, and it changed her life.
  • Jezebel was cast to her death out of a window.
  • Paul was lowered through a window in a basket to escape.

Sitting in the Window

  • He designates Acts chapter 20 and verse 9: in Greece, on a late Sunday evening, Paul had been long preaching, and Eutychus was sitting in the window.
  • Eutychus fell asleep in the window and fell out of it — but because Paul was the preacher, he did not stay dead.
  • That window was a dangerous spot for Eutychus: he was not using it to observe or to escape; he was just sitting in it.
  • It happens everywhere, he says — drummers are put in a cage, and teachers, singers, and worshippers can all find themselves in the window.
  • In the window you are neither hot nor cold but lukewarm, feeling the air from inside and outside, watching everyone else get something from God while nothing happens to you.
  • He reads an essay excerpt about the spectator — quartered by his own self, sitting inside the car looking out through the window — and insists church is not a spectator sport.

Scriptures: Acts 20:9

Praying Against Oppression, Fear, and Doubt

  • He calls the church to stand, shake themselves out of the spectator place, and ask God to move in their own lives and shape them into his image.
  • While praying at the front, he says, the Lord laid on his heart a sense of oppression, fear, doubt, and questioning over the church.
  • With no music and no singers, he leads the congregation to pray with open mouths, rebuking the devourer and the enemy over the church and over individual lives.
  • He prays for mothers praying over their sons and daughters and for every lost soul, declaring victory in the house.

Scripture index: Acts 20:9.

aren't you thankful aren't you thankful for the presence of the Lord this morning Jesus I want to thank you so much for being here today anything pass-transistor Sloane for allowing me to be here but I'm gonna I'm gonna be a slow start this more if you will you can take your seat rich over to someone as you're sitting tell them you're glad to see them I am so thankful and I'm so glad that I know what God can do you know when we were practicing that song this morning and man I got here late you know like it was bad I felt bad on him I'm sorry I am I'm so sorry for being late and like I was off a little bit when we got to that point in our practicing it was like something just overcame Jesus right in there isn't that that's what happens every single time doesn't matter where you're at doesn't matter what you're doing when you call on the name of Jesus that makes the difference hey man you know there's a there's there's something that we look at simply it's a window right it's not a door it's not a wall it's a window it's an odd it's an odd object just to think about if you just think about just a window you know you got big windows you got small windows you got you got windows with glasses in them or you just got a hole in the wall per say it's a window in you don't we don't think about a window very often right it's just something we take for granted unless we need one unless we need to get out of somewhere unless we need to get into somewhere we need a window and we it's just something we don't think about it's in the Bible windows are mentioned quite often and they're not mentioned as as the ones we have today you know like the pretty stained glass or just your there just a hole in the wall just a window but that window can be used and it was used for a hundred different things it seems like I mean there's every time a windows mentioned per se it's all it's all not evident but there's a lot of times that when it's mentioned it's for a different purpose different reason I mean you take you take Noah for instance he built an ark and and I read a fact that the ark could could hold it or displaced enough like water per say that it was comparable to a aircraft carrier that's a massive boat and then he puts all these animals in it and God's like I'll put this one little window right one window and what god I can't have more than that like we need something else we need more than just one window but God knew what he was doing I don't know why I said just put one window but that's that's all he done but when we find that that when at the after it stopped raining that Noah opened that window so it wasn't even open during this time but he opened that window and he let out a bird can you put yourself in Noah's shoes there for just a minute you'd been cooped up in here with these animals for 40 days and 40 nights and you open that window now could you give me just a minute let me catch my breath give me just a minute now like here's his whole family's gathered around hey y'all hang on just a minute let's open this window - up to them that window was more than just a window that window was it was fresh air it was a breath of fresh air it was it was almost as good as being free I mean at that point you're looking for anything when when the spies were coming in - is coming into Jericho they respond out Jericho they looked at a window or they they escaped out of window Rahab the harlot she she allowed them to to climb down out of that window and to them that window was a way of escape to her that window was a window of opportunity because she's seen that something bad was going to happen in this was her her way of escape that window was more than just a hole in the wall it was a ray of hope almost it it was what they needed windows were used for negative things I mean you have David's wife Micah once David escaped out of the window running from Saul shoot she was the daughter of Saul so she allowed him she helped him down and escaped through the window and then another time Micah's looking up out of the window and she's using it as observation post and she sees David coming into Israel or into Jerusalem dancing before the Lord with all his mind with everything he had he's dancing and she uses the window to cast judgment because she's not there she's not feeling what he's feeling but she just sees and that changed her life that changed the course of her life and probably the course of that nation then you have Jezebel you she was up in a window and she actually someone cast her to her death out of that window which was a good thing she was a wicked lady but you have you come across Paul all right in the New Testament Paul says in Colossians said I was lowered or I escaped through window but we get to a very unique happening with a window in in Acts chapter 20 and verse 9 there was a man by the name of Eutychus and he was sitting in the window just sitting in the window now put yourself in his shoes just if you will go back to first scent the first century church there in Greece and and this is a late Sunday evening and it says Paul had been long preaching so pastor was preaching and so that's what you get for picking on his younger guys right pastor was preaching and he had been long preaching and no doubt this had been a hot day this was in Greece this was you know they were out there on the Mediterranean but then that cool air from off the sea comes in and Paul's up there still preaching out granted Paul was the best preacher probably we can we can think of I mean this man was anointed he was wise he was passionate everything you you could want or desire Paul had it but it still wasn't enough to keep everybody awake Utica still fell asleep in the window so he wasn't using it for an observation point he wasn't using it for a a point to escape in fact he actually fell out the window like luckily Paul was the preacher and so he didn't stay dead I mean like luckily just for Utica for his sake he wasn't dead but that window was a dangerous spot for Paul or for Eutychus it was a very dangerous spot it's a spot that we all get to at some point in time in her life I don't mind telling you I grew up playing the drums and if you notice the drums they put drummers in a cage I don't know why I have no idea why it doesn't make a lick of sense but you're in a cage and you're drunk you're just you're there hey I need someone I just tap on the glass because I mean basically I feel like I'm at the zoo but it doesn't matter where we're at doesn't matter if we're teaching class it doesn't matter if we're in a sound but didn't matter if we're playing an instrument for we're singing or if we're worshipping doesn't matter what we're doing we get to a point in our lives and our hearts where we're almost we're in the window we're there where we're eutychus was it I mean there are a thousand different reasons why we would be in the window but we're there I mean we may have worked hard that day we may not have we it doesn't matter but we're there and the word of God's going forth and it's going through and everyone seems to be getting something from God everyone seems to be stepping into worship everyone maybe raising their hands somebody maybe in the front giving their life to God right then and we're just in the window we're there we're not hot we're not cold we're not we're not we're feeling the air from the outside we're feeling the air from the inside but we're neither of that we're we're stuck in the in-between we're looking through the window and here we are in the wind no and nothing is happening to us we're seeing everyone around us get something or we're looking out and we're seeing everyone around us doing something but we're here right here and it doesn't matter I'm not I'm not gonna point at anybody here but we get there and and we're stuck there and we're neither hot nor cold we're lukewarm and we're there and when God's reaching for us and he's reaching for us and he's pulling for us and nothing happens how many times have you seen someone now have you seen someone you've seen them in the window and you say hey what are you doing in the window I'm just watching I'm just looking I see what God is doing but I don't feel it how many times you heard those words how many times have you personally been in the window and there comes a point when you're in the window okay now you you may you may have a very specific instance and you may not of when you're in the window and you know that hey everyone around me is getting something but where am i what am i doing there's there's an excerpt from an essay that I would it says although I was able to do many a thing that very moment I was quartered by my own self just to be a spectator sitting inside the car looking out through the window you see there's something about Church there's something about living for God it's not a spectator sport it's not a time to sit by and let everyone else do it but it's a time to step forth sometimes it's good to just shake yourself just a little bit it's good to just sit step get get out of your comfort zone just a little bit and say god I don't want to be a spectator today I don't want to be a man or a woman trapped just looking on seeing what else someone else is getting but I want you O God to move in my life today I want you to move in my situation today I want you O God to shake me where I man to break my my foundation O God and to make into your image into your life just so God moved me it shaped me if we can let's give a lord a hand clap of praise let's let the Lord always shake us can we stand together right now and just begin to thank the Lord for what he's doing come on could you lift your voice up to him he hon daughter come on there's something powerful in the atmosphere right now it's not time to be a spectator becoming can we invite the presence of the Lord oh man I feel the presence of the Lord but the song I'm gonna tell you what the Lord laid on my heart I came in and I was I was praying there in the front and I don't know if it was anyone specifically I don't know if it was the church I don't know if it was just something that God placed in my heart but I began to feel the idea of oppression and fear and doubt and questioning and I don't know if it was just a person beside me I don't know if it was God just putting on him a heart for the church but then as we begin to pray you began to feel the strength build in the atmosphere and all the sudden when the Holy Ghost moved into the house those things began to go away those things begin to move but I felt the Lord and press it upon my heart so here's what we're gonna do I want us right now there's no music to Pradas there's no good singers to sing for us but I think that we're gonna push this thing over the edge and whatever that spirit was this has nothing to do with my message but whatever that Spirit was I want us to begin to pray right now with your mouth open and you begin to rebuke the Devourer of the enemy over this church over individual lives and you pray under the unction of the Holy Ghost and with the authority and the power that comes with the name of Jesus dear father I pray in Jesus name against every doubt against every fear against every spirit of oppression every idea of depression got everything that says we are not able God I rebuke it in Jesus name come on let your voice ring out he enemy you have no place here you have no authority here god I declare victory in the house today here I declare victory in the house a name I declare victory in the house today I'm pray over every mother that's praying over her son over her daughter that there be victory in the family god I pray over his lost soul I've pray over her lost soul I rebuke the fear Jesus you are going to be a restorer you are going to be a restorer let it be so God let it be gone in Jesus name let it be so okay the church say in Jesus name and give a great hand clap unto the Lord a man you may be seated
