Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

  • Elijah the Tishbite appears in the days of Ahab and Jezebel and declares it will not rain except by his word; drought follows.
  • On the mountain the prophets of Baal cry out from morning to noon with no voice and no answer, and Elijah mocks them: cry aloud, for he is a god.
  • Elijah rebuilds the altar, soaks it with water in the middle of a drought, and the fire of God consumes it; the people had to change their minds about who is God.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 18; 1 Kings 18:26

From the Fire to the Juniper Tree

  • Ahab tells Jezebel all Elijah has done, and her messenger promises his life by tomorrow; he flees, leaves his servant, and asks God to take his life under a juniper tree.
  • Right after the zenith of the power of God he is saying he is not better than his fathers: the crash comes right after the mountain.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 19

Sugar Highs and Spiritual Crashes

  • The pattern: we are comfortable calling fire down from heaven, but go home to the same old thing and ask why nothing changed.
  • The whipped-topping object lesson makes the point: we have become sugar addicts who love the hype and the power, but a sugar addiction always comes with a crash.
  • A relationship with God built only on what he can give has no substance; God has something deeper than the fire.

The Cake in the Wilderness

  • As Elijah sleeps, an angel touches him: 'Arise and eat'; a cake baked on the coals and a cruse of water are at his head, and he eats and lies down again.
  • The angel comes a second time, for the journey is too great for him, and he goes in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights.
  • His title question: everybody wants the sugar, but who wants the cake: the sustenance of a deep relationship that carries you through what you cannot get through on your own.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 19:5-6; 1 Kings 19:7-8

The Still Small Voice

  • On the mountain the Lord passes by: a great wind, then an earthquake, then a fire, but the Lord is not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire; after the fire, a still small voice.
  • The signs are the receipt of a relationship, not what we chase after; what made Elijah the prophet of God was hearing God's voice through all the noise.
  • God commissions him to anoint kings and to anoint Elisha in his place.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 19:11-12

Bread That Becomes Part of Us

  • Jesus said, 'I am the bread of life': when we consume the bread it becomes part of us, fueling and changing us until his thoughts and his will overcome our own.
  • The deep things of God involve the breaking of our will and our plans; what sustained Elijah later sustained Elisha when he went to anoint the king and wept.
  • He closes calling the church to the altar: the fire, the infilling, and the baptisms are the after-effects of a deep relationship with God, and the journey is too great for us without the cake.

Oh, come up. Somebody glad to be in the house of the Lord today. Is anyone glad to feel the presence of the Lord moving on you today? Anyone thankful? Yes. Amen. that no matter what, come what may, come what might, you know, we change, but God never does. God's just God. God's just God. Church, thank you singers. Thank you guys so much for for for praying, for singing, for practicing, musicians, for ushering in. Thank you singers. Thank you. Thank you tech guys. And and for all of you at home watching today, you you might want to say an extra thank you to the tech guys today. All right. Aren't you thankful for those that join us online, church? We sure are. We believe that the whole gospel to the whole world matters. We believe it. Now, I don't know about y'all, but I have no desire to go to the whole world. Not every Sunday. I'd be tired, be stretched thin. But brother Carpenter up in uh up in uh Marville, Tennessee, he calls it the worldwide web. He uh he's got his own vernacular to talk talk by, but it's the opportunity to go to send the gospel anywhere and everywhere in the whole world. Thank you church for allowing that to be possible. tech guys, greeters. How many thankful for some security guys? Who was it? I'm not going to call them out by name, but whoever that was that led that in there at uh Minnesota, I dare say they'd have a hard time here. It's all I'm going to say about that for legal reasons. I had I had the the tech team to put this up because for some reason today, every conversation I heard before church involved a cruise or the beach or something. Everyone was longing to not be in the dreary rain. This this has nothing to do with what I'm preaching about. I just wanted you to just get a glimpse of it and they're going to take it away. That's that's it. Just to warm your heart just a little bit. Thank you guys so much. Thank you, brother Herb. This week it and you may be seated. As you're being seated, though, hug somebody's neck, fist fist bump somebody, tell them you're glad to see them. This week, I thought I'd work Presley down. We were we we put the flooring down in one of these rooms. Before you can put flooring down, you have to take carpet up. Well, I don't know who put the glue on that carpet, but they didn't buy it from the Dollar Tree. Like, buddy, that was some good glue. I hope that the rest of the building sticks together as well as that glue does. Like, oh my lord. So, like I thought I thought we I thought we were dead. I was like, I have no idea how we're going to get this up. And he just kept pulling like I all right then. He must have heard the he heard the he heard pastor preach last week. Just kept showing just kept pulling. That was it. We just kept we got it up and got it down. There is I do want to make me mention there is all there are all kinds of little projects right now that we are we are so close to putting a bow on. All right. So this Saturday if you can at all just just let me know. We'll be out here about 9:00 a.m. Uh and we're going to try and knock out as much as possible. Many hands make light work. There's some things that take expertise, some things that just take labor. All right? And I'll just tell you, it's going to take 30 man hours of labor, whether it's one person or 10, one happens a lot quicker. So many hands make light work.

Today, I do want to uh thank pastor for allowing me to to preach and and Ethan, he he made this feast, this delicate feast for us. Uh how many know who Elijah is? Elijah. He was this he was this guy. He was Elijah the Tishbite. He he shows up on the scene in the book of First Kings just randomly in the middle of Ahab and Jezebel and all the things that are happening there. Elijah the Tishbite comes on the scene. He walks up to the king and he says, "It's not going to rain except by my word." Then he leaves and prays for it not to rain. I honestly don't think I I don't think that God told him to say that. I think he was just fed up. I think the prophet was just fed up and was like, "All right, this ain't going to happen." And he's like, "Hey, God, will you back me up on that?" Anybody ever opened your mouth like that, God? Um, would you back me up? And God backed you up. God backed him up. He goes for three years without any rain. God sustains him. He He lives by a brook. He lives he lives with a widow. And then he comes back and God so very very intently allowed him to have another audience with the king. He he brought he brought Ahab. He was he met Ahab and he said, "Ahab, bring all your prophets of Baal. I want you to go. I want to meet you on top of this mountain and we're going to see who is God. We're just going to see. we're going to see who's who. And so they got out there and we'll find this. We find this in First Kings chapter chapter 18. We find this story. It's very very succinct and very direct in the telling of it. But we find that he said, "All right, we're going to build an altar. You build an altar and you you prepare. There's 400 plus of you guys. We're you you call down fire from heaven. Don't set this altar on fire. You call down fire from heaven and and allow your God to consume it." And so they did. They started they they were they're over there. And verse 26, they took the bullet which was given them and they dressed it and called on the name of Bale from morning until noon, saying, "Oh Ba, hear us." But there was no voice, nor any that answered. They leaped upon the altar which was made. They got desperate. They were getting weird weird. And it came to pass at noon that Elijah, y'all know him as a prophet, but he was the trash talker. He's and maybe why I like him so much. He was a tra You ever played basketball with somebody that was just just a trash talker. Don't play basketball with me. All right. I'm bad at it and I foul a lot. I love to make people mad. It's my favorite pastime. I don't care. I don't even care if I score a point, but if I stuff you one time, game's over. You're you're mad. You've done lost it. So that's all I'm out there for. This is what This was Elijah. He said, "Oh, cry al loud for he's a god. He's either talking or he's out pursuing or he's in a journey or per ad venture he's asleep and must be wakened up. Come on, guys. Get a little louder." Don't you know? And he's he's just they cried aloud and then they started cutting themselves with knives and lancets till the blood gushed out. The normal people, if I may, it became obscene and absurd. They It's funny how if if I may, you you're the that sin is normal until you put a stop to it. And then it what? It rears its ugly head and does all the weirdest things possible. Extreme example, go and go and go and stand in front of or or propose a law to stop abortion. And what happens? Oh, you can't stop me from killing a baby. It's like, wait a minute. What? That doesn't even make sense. It doesn't even follow it. This that's just mankind. That is that is the nature of man. Man, it this was true then. It is true now. And it came to pass though that that finally they tore down the altar. They messed it all up. And Elijah he he was like, "All right, my turn, guys. My turn." He built the altar back. He went and put he built the altar out of 12 stones to symbolize the 12 stones of Israel because Israel was divided at this time. And he's he he he had them pour water on it. Buckets and buckets of water. In the middle of a drought, he found water. He had them pour buckets and buckets of water. And then he called on the God of of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And he called fire down. And the fire consumed the whole altar. That's incredible. Interestingly enough, he looks to the people. Then he says, "Now you know who is God." And they killed all the prophets of Baal. Very easily God could have killed. He could have he could have taken them all up in the fire, but he didn't. The people had to change their minds to turn on the to to say, "No, no, no. Ba's not God. God is. Yahweh is God." And then we we follow we we go on. Elijah does a couple things. He brings back rain. He prays for rain to come back. It comes back. And then we get to first kings chapter 19. And Ahab the king, he told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and how he had slain all the prophets with a sword. This this was this is how he he approached it. And Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me and more also if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." And verse three says, "He saw that he arose and he went for his life and came to Beersa, which belongth to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness. And he came, and he sat down under a juniper tree, and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough now, oh Lord, that take take away my life, for I am not better than my father's." Anyone ever heard of pearl? Poor pitiful pearl. You anybody ever heard somebody just felt so bad for themselves all the time? It's like Eeyore, I ain't much of a house for much of a donkey. I mean, that's about it. Nothing could go right. All of a sudden, Elijah is at the zenith of what we would call an experience with God. He is at the zenth of the power of God. And the next just like the next few verses the very I mean like within a week it seems he is at God just let me die. I noticed this and and I want you to know that that this is and for better or worse. All right? So it it could be bad, could be good, I don't know. When God deals with a preacher for a long time about something, everybody gets a little scared.

But for several months, I've been chewing on this because I started noticing a pattern that we fall into. I've discussed it with my elders. I've discussed it with my peers. I've prayed about it. I've thought about it. I've wondered. And I've just been chewing on this idea because I've noticed that time after time, we as apostolic are so used to calling down fire from heaven. We are so used. We are we are we are okay with the doctrine. We are we are more unified around the doctrine than at any point in the past 100 years. We we know what the Bible says. We believe what the Bible says. We believe in the infilling of the Holy Ghost. We are comfortable with the moving of the spirit. We believe in tongues and interpretation. We believe in the following after the leading of the spirit. Our our our practice of intercession of miracles and all the things of worship. We are so in tune with that. We are comfortable, if I may, calling fire down from heaven. But when we go home, we're so comfortable in encountering the power of God. We witness it. We depend upon it. But when we go home, when we leave the conference, when we leave the camp, when we leave the convention, when we leave HYC, when we leave Sunday service, when we leave prayer meeting, when we leave midweek UNIVERSITY, WHEN WE LEAVE AND WE GO HOME AND WE COME AND CONF WE WE WE CONFRONT THE SAME OLD THING that we have been confronting all along AND WE'RE SAYING, "GOD, I JUST CALLED DOWN FIRE FROM HEAVEN. WHY DO I FEEL SO ALONE RIGHT NOW? WHY DO I FEEL SO SO WITHOUT POWER RIGHT NOW, GOD? We walk away from A A POWERFILLED WORSHIP SERVICE, AN ALTAR CALL WHERE WHERE WE HAVE LAID IT ALL DOWN, BUT SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE, WE'VE PICKED IT BACK UP AND WE SAY, "GOD, WHY MY CIRCUMSTANCES DIDN'T CHANGE, GOD?" That's what we prayed for, wasn't it? NOTHING WAS SOLVED, GOD. I I I PRAYED IN ALL FAITH AND believing and nothing was solved. You see, I I I asked I asked them to bring this out here because I believe that we have Is anyone like extra creamy dairy whipped topping? Is anyone like it yet? I I knew you were going to raise your hand, Jaden. I knew you were. Come here. I hope so. Your mother did not have any plans today. I knew you were going to raise your hand. You ever just eat it straight out of the jar? Yeah. Yeah. Every time. All right. Not every time. Guess what? This is all yours. Go ahead. I'm staying way far away. Don't make a mess. He's going to be feeling real good here in just a minute. Sister Manny, I am so sorry. I did know he was going to raise his hand, though, so I guess I could have forewarned you. Shake it up real good. All right. Don't Don't eat it all. How many know what's going to happen to him in just a few? By the end of my sermon, he's going to be asleep. Thank you, buddy. I know that's a weird That's a weird uh object lesson. You're good. Go back. Give everybody give him a hand.

You see, the pattern that I see is that we've become sugar addicts. We love the hype. We love the We love the power. We love all the things that that that come with it. We become addicted to it. But you know what comes with a sugar addiction? Comes a crash. I'm sorry, buddy. This one's going to play out hard. You might remember this one. All right. There comes a crash. BUT I I HAVE WATCHED THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN. We come in week in week out. Conference in, conference out. Camp in, camp out. HYC in, HYC out. We come, we're pumped UP, AND WE'RE READY TO GO. and we're on a sugar high to conquer THE WORLD. AND AS SOON AS WE COME UP AGAINST THE WORLD, THE SUGAR CRASHES BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT BUILT IT AROUND SOME SORT OF SUBSTANCE. WE HAVE BUILT OUR RELATIONSHIP AROUND GOD BASED ON WHAT HE CAN GIVE US, BASED ON THE POWER AND THE FIRE THAT HE CAN DULL OUT. BUT LET ME JUST TELL YOU, THERE'S A WHOLE LOT MORE. THERE'S A WHOLE LOT MORE TO A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. YOU MAY FEEL LIKE YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL, BUT YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET. YOU MAY FEEL LIKE YOU FELT IT ALL, BUT YOU HADN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET. GOD HAS MORE FOR US THAN WE KNOW HOW TO CALL DOWN FROM HEAVEN. HE'S GOT SOMETHING DEEPER FOR US. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF WE KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT. I DON'T KNOW THAT I'VE SEEN IT. WITH MY OWN EYES, BUT I KNOW WHAT THE SPIRIT HAS FOR THIS CHURCH. I KNOW THAT APOSTOLICS WERE NOT CALLED TO BE SUGAR ADDICTS. I KNOW THAT THEY WERE NOT CALLED TO JUST BE HIGH ON LIFE, BUT WE WERE CALLED TO BE CHRISTLIKE CHRISTIANS DAY IN AND DAY OUT, BUILT UPON THE SUBSTANCE AND THE WORD OF GOD. You see

verse five, first Kings 19 and verse 5. As he lay down, he slept under a juniper juniper tree. Behold, then an angel touched him. And he said unto him, "Arise and eat." And he looked and behold there was a cake bacon on the coals and a cruise of water at his head. And he did eat and he drank and he lay down again. Verse seven. And the angel of the Lord came again the second time and touched him and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for thee." And he arose and he ate and he did eat and he drank and went in the strength of that meat 40 days and 40 nights. I come with a very simple title to you today. Who wants the cake? Because I have been around and around and around and I've seen everyone upside down that always wants some sugar. They always want the sugar high. They always want the fire of God. They always want the power of God. They always want the the the the the manifestations of God. But who wants a deep relationship with God? Who wants the cake of God? The sustenance that will keep you through for 40 days and 40 nights. THE THE THE THE TRIAL THAT YOU DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO GET THROUGH ON YOUR OWN. YOU WON'T GET IT. YOU WON'T GET IT JUST BECAUSE YOU FELT GOOSEBUMPS IN THE SERVICE. YOU WON'T GET IT JUST BECAUSE YOU HEARD A GOOD WORD. YOU ONLY YOU ONLY DIG IT OUT BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT IN AN ALTAR. YOU'VE GOT INTO THE WORD. YOU'VE ALLOWED THE SPIRIT TO MOVE DEEPLY ON YOU. Who wants the cake? You see, IT WAS HERE THAT THEN ELIJAH STEPPED INTO THE NEXT LINE OF HIS MINISTRY. HE WAS JUST A PROPHET FROM TISHBITE WHERE NO ONE KNOWS WHERE HE IS. He was from the BACKWOODS OF THE BACKWOODS. AND ELIJAH HAD DONE WHAT GOD WANTED HIM TO DO AND MAYBE WHAT HE WANTED HIM TO DO. But then very the very next thing is Elijah steps into the cave and on the mount, a different mountain, but he's there and God appears to him.

Verse 11. Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and break in pieces the rock before the Lord. That's a that's a strong wind. It threw rocks. But the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind and earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake of fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire, a still small voice. And that's where the Lord was. Can I just Can I offer to some apostolics today? Can I offer to some people that are seasoned in Christ today that that all the shakings and all the power, the calling down from fire from heaven, all the shakings of our world, all that's good. All that's great. But I'll just tell you, I need somebody. And God's looking for a church that is after some cake. He's He's looking for a church that doesn't get distracted by this or that. Doesn't chase after Can I just say the the THE TONGUES TONGUES ARE ARE the receipt. THEY'RE NOT WHAT WE CHASE AFTER. THEY'RE THE RECEIPT OF A RELATIONSHIP. THEY'RE THE SIGN OF A RELATIONSHIP. THE EARTHQUAKE WAS A SIGN. THE THE THE WIND WAS A SIGN. THE FIRE WAS A SIGN. BUT WHAT HE NEEDED MOST WAS JUST THE RELATIONSHIP. He he didn't need all THE OTHER THINGS GOING WITH IT. HE JUST NEEDED THAT TIME WITH GOD. HE JUST NEEDED THE WORD FROM GOD, THE STILL SMALL VOICE TO HEAR THROUGH ALL the noise, THROUGH ALL THE DISTRACTIONS, THROUGH ALL THE ISSUES. THAT WAS WHAT MADE HIM THE PROPHET OF GOD. You see Elijah WAS THEN COMMISSIONED BY GOD TO do three things. THIS IS WHAT GOD GOD GAVE HIM THREE TASKS. It was to go anoint this king, to go anoint this king, and then go to anoint Elisha. He did one of those things. One. He anointed Elisha. That was it. Can I offer to you if you want the next generation to pick up what you got? If you want the deep things and the deep moves of God to be more than just a song, to be more than just a just a movement, more than just a moment, more than just a feeling. If you want the deep things of God, you've got to grab those moments of quiet. I know. I Oh, I know that's hard to shout about. I understand. But I'm needing somebody. God's looking for somebody who wants the cake today. God's searching for someone that SAYS, "ALL THOSE THINGS ARE GREAT AND NICE. I'M NOT GOING TO SHUN THEM, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. I NEED SOMEBODY TO PICK UP THAT CAKE AND DEEP DIVE DOWN IN IT. I NEED SOMEONE TO SAY, "I JUST WANT MORE OF YOU, GOD. I JUST WANT A DEEPER WALK. I JUST WANT A DEEPER RELATIONSHIP. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING WITH IT, BUT I JUST WANT MORE OF YOU.

Cool thing about cake is it's bread and it's good to eat. Jesus said it like this. He said, "I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." Can I can I get philosophical with you for just a moment? When we consume the bread, the bread becomes part of us. It It fuels us. It It changes us. If you don't believe me, drink Mountain Dew straight for 30 days. It will change you. Don't drink any water. About the end of the week, you'll die. No. No. Oh, Lord. Oh, Jesus. We're going to have to pray for her. All right. All right. Don't believe me? Eat potato. Go watch the Go watch the guy that ate potatoes 30 days straight. What happened to him? Or ate McDonald's 30 days straight. See what happened to you. We are what we eat. When we become when we consume Jesus, it becomes more than I'm a Christian. It becomes the I am. I know. Hang on. Hang on with me for just a moment. It becomes my thoughts are no longer my thoughts. They're his thoughts. My will is no longer my my will. It's his will because we I have consumed so much of him that it has overcome who I am. It has overcome what I've done. It's overcome all the other things that that distract me, all the troubles of this world, all the all the issues that come up, all the distractions. IT'S OVERCOME ALL OF THAT. AND IT'S just said, I am like Jesus. OUR PROBLEMS WILL NOT GO AWAY. OUR ISSUES WILL NOT GO AWAY. YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES THAT I WISH SO MUCH THAT I COULD CHANGE WILL NOT GO AWAY. BUT THE LENS through which you view them all OF A SUDDEN YOU SEE THEM FROM HEAVEN'S POINT OF VIEW. YOU SEE THEM THE WAY JESUS SAW THEM. YOU SEE THAT YOU SEE IT'S NOT WHEN WE COME TO GOD HE SOLVES ALL OUR PROBLEMS. IT'S WHEN WE COME TO GOD HE GIVES US A DIFFERENT WAY TO LOOK AT OUR PROBLEMS. That's true. I KNOW THAT GOD IS LOOKING FOR A CHURCH THAT WANTS more than what's just on the surface. I'm sorry, but I pastor was talking this morning about the moves of God. He said, "I'm just old enough now to look back on some things I've seen. I'm just old enough to look back in little old Collinwood where God moved at times that I I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT we would do with here." Come on now. THE DEEP MOVES OF GOD THAT I'VE SEEN PEOPLE JUST DRUNK IN THE HOLY GHOST. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW SOMEBODY DRUNK IN THE HOLY GHOST? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE DRUNK IN THE HOLY GHOST? Come on now. I I know. I I I I was I was wondering maybe I'm just this now I'm just getting old and being a grouchy old man. I ain't like you used to be. But I'm just telling YOU, I DIDN'T DRUM that up. I got to see it. BUT I WANT MY GENERATION TO SEE IT. I WANT MY GENERATION TO HUNGER AFTER THE deeper things of God. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH A GOOD PATTY CAKE AND COME JUMP AROUND AND WE'RE JUST HERE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THAT WILL MOVE AND CHANGE CHATTANOOGA. BUT I BELIEVE THAT IF WE'LL JUST WAIT OUT A LITTLE BIT DEEPER, IF WE'LL JUST FIND THAT TIME WITH GOD, JUST A LITTLE BIT DEEPER, A LITTLE BIT MORE INTENTIONAL, I believe that God will change us. The the view of God isn't always what we look for.

There was a king that Elijah Elijah was told to go and anoint. I don't know why he didn't. I I don't I don't know. He left that for Elisha to do. It's you go and anoint Haziel. When Elisha went to anoint Haziel, he cried. He cried. Hazel said, "Why are you crying?" He said, "Because I know what you're going to do to the people of God." Why, God? And I prayed this. I asked this not just in just in wandering. Why, God, would you anoint a king that's going to turn against your people? Why God are you Why would you anoint a king that's going to even cause your prophet to cry? I don't know. I wished I did. God didn't say this is one. But what I do know is when he anointed Elijah, when he gave him the bread, the sustenance, that it sustained Elisha to do the thing that broke his heart. See, the deep things of God are not always the things that we want to do. The deep things of God are not always things that that that we would do. In fact, it's probably best that we wouldn't. The deep things of God involve us the breaking of our will. It involves the breaking of our plan. It It involves the breaking. And I don't know I this this will not be the last time. I don't believe that this will be the last time I preach in this vein because God's been turning this over and over and over and over and over and over. I have been trying my best to get a grip on it to grip get an understanding and I don't. But what I do know is that all the potential in the world we've got all we've got the we we are set church. God's God's been good to us. We are set. But if we don't get a hold of the deep things of God, it'll pass on to someone else. We are set. God's been good to us, but can I tell you almost isn't good enough, now? I don't I don't know what it looks like. If I knew, I love to know the detail of how to get to it. But all I know is it takes a breaking. To get the breaking, though, you've got to have the sustenance. And I don't know where you're where you're at today. I don't know what you're facing. I don't know. I don't know what what battle you keep just just knocking your head up against. I don't know. But I do know this. You need some sustenance. Brother Don's so good about this. And when when he's teaching on worship and and leading, he he he he will go out of his way to say we don't need a a cheerleader. We don't we don't I can't pump it up enough today. That's not my calling today. I may do more. I may I may not even have a solution in hand today, but I just want to present the problem.

Who wants the cake? Cuz the cake means you got to be alone in the wilderness. The cake means you've left the fire behind for just a moment. The cake means you're going deeper into the wilderness. Who wants the cake? I believe that God's looking for a church that all those things are nice. The fire of God, that's an after to me that's that's a product. That's that's the after effects. The falling and the infilling of the Holy That's the after effects. The baptisms, that's the after effects of a deep relationship with God. Can I just tell you, Pastor Sister Sloan, they can't pray enough to pull us deeper. Brother Dan, just can't you you can't pray enough to pull this deeper. We'll fight you tooth and toe. Now, some of you wonder why you feel like Can I get personal for just a minute? Some some wonder why you feel like you're you're butting heads. And I'll just tell you, God's waiting on the deeper things. Deep water runs slow. If you ever been hiking, you'll know deep water runs slow. Today, I don't even I don't have a solution. I wished I did, but I do have this to present. God's calling for somebody. You're going to need some cake. You're going to need some deep things of God. The journey is too great for you. You can't make it on your own.

If you'd stand with me, find a place to pray. Wherever you feel comfortable, around the altar would be a great place. If you're at home, find a place to pray. If you're driving, don't close your eyes. or do. But today, God's looking for a church that hungers after the deep things. until his ways become our ways, until his view becomes our view, until his thoughts become our thoughts. The movings of the spirit are to usher us along. But if we'll just get in the flow of the spirit, God will take us there. When we get into the deep of the spirit, God will God will move us along. Jesus. Who wants the cake today? Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze. That's the measure you must take to crush the idols. Jerk the pews and all the decorations too until the congregations few and have revival. Tell your friends that this is where the party ends until you're broken for your sins. You can't be social. Seek the Lord and wait for what he has in store. And know that great is your reward. So just be hopeful. You can sing all you want to. Yes, you can sing all you want to. You can sing all you want to and still get it wrong. Worship is more than a song. Take a break from all the plans that you have made and sit at home alone and wait for God to whisper. Beg him please to open up his mouth and speak and pray for real upon your knees until they blister. Shine the light on every corner of your life until the pride and lust and lies are in the open. Then read the word and put to test the things you've heard until your heart and soul are stirred and rocked and broken. Cuz you can sing all you want to. Yes, you can sing all you want to. You can sing all you want to and still get it wrong. Worship is more than a song. You can sing all you want to. You can sing all you want to. You can sing all you want to and still get it wrong. Worship is more than a song. Anything I put before my God is not all anything I want with all my heart is night. Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol. And anything that I give all my love is a night. Oh, I can sing all I want to. Yes, I can sing all I want to. I can sing all I want to. You still get it wrong. Worship is more than a song.

The spirit of the age may the church age. Worship is worship of this time, this generation. Everyone across the board is I I mean it. We've we've got a uniformity of of worship style unlike Christianity has seen in a long time. I don't think it's a bad thing. I'm not I'm not I'm not hating on that. I think that's awesome. used to be that that that we would be the only ones that would be exuberant in worship. Now if even the Baptist I mean and pick at him just a minute but I'll just tell you our differentiation doesn't come from a good song. comes from that deep thing. Comes from the Celi moments. It comes comes from the time spent with God. And I'll just be honest with you, we're doing real good with with worship, with praise, man. I mean, the royal we there's a different level of praise church that I don't I don't think we've seen in a long time. There's there's a level of it that that I don't know that we've seen in a long time. And I feel like my only call today is to let us know it's there. We've just got to look for it. There is more. Just got to look for it. Would you would you would you go a neighbor? Would you put your hand on somebody? Here's the thing. It's not easily found. It's there. The hard part is us.

Jesus, we love you, God. We thank you, God. We praise you, Lord. We're looking for you, God, God. But I believe this is a church that's looking deeper and wider and further and higher and lower and and more, God. They're looking past the noise, looking past the fire, looking past the moving, look, looking past the quaking, looking past all the all the signs, but God, they're looking for you, God. And I know this is a church body that's hungering for it. God, I pray, Lord, that you would give us the sustenance, the the sustenance. God, you would give us the strength, the direction. God, you would encourage us, you would guide us, and you would direct us. God, we long for the deep things of God. We long for the deep movings of the Holy Ghost. We long for the deep moments and quiet moments with you. But God, God, guide us. God, give us strength. God, give us direction. God, help us. God, Lord, we do not want to let this moment pass us by. But God, let us let us with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our might, with all of our strength. God Jesus, touch us, Lord. God, lead us closer to you. Lead us closer to you, Jesus. Thank you, church.
