Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

A room built in obedience (2 Kings 4:8-17)

  • The Shunamite woman is introduced by her discernment: she perceived that Elisha, who passed by continually, was a holy man of God.
  • She persuaded her husband to build a little chamber on the wall, furnished with a bed, a table, a stool, and a candlestick, so the prophet would turn in whenever he came their way.
  • Asked what could be done for her — whether she would be spoken for to the king or to the captain of the host — she asked for nothing: she dwelt among her own people.
  • Elisha's word over the barren woman: about this season, according to the time of life, she would embrace a son; she conceived and bore a son at the season that was spoken to her.
  • The thesis of the message: one act of obedience opened the portal of the supernatural — when she placed a priority on the man of God's room, God placed priority on her womb.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 4:8-17

The dead child laid on the prophet's bed (2 Kings 4:20)

  • The promised child grew, sickened in the field complaining of his head, and was carried to his mother dead; she laid him on the bed of the man of God, in the very room she had built in obedience.
  • Elisha shut the door, laid himself upon the child — his mouth upon the child's mouth, his hands upon the child's hands — and the flesh of the child waxed warm; stretching himself upon him a second time, the child sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
  • The application: take your situation, your problem, back to the place you built in obedience — acts of obedience can bring back to life the thing you thought was dead.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 4:20

Seven years gone, and everything restored (2 Kings 8)

  • Warned by the man of God of a famine called by the Lord, she arose and did after his saying without asking one question, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
  • Returning home, she found another living in her house and went out to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
  • At that very hour Gehazi was rehearsing to the king the great things Elisha had done, her son's restoration to life among them; the king appointed a certain officer to restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day she left the land.
  • Her land had produced through the famine years while she was gone — restoration returned not only the property but its increase, the residual left after everything else had been subtracted.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 8

God restores the years (Joel 2:25-26)

  • The prophetic word over the hearers: God will restore the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, his great army which he sent among them.
  • The restored people shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord their God, who has dealt wondrously with them.
  • Obedience is the one thing that keeps on giving after it has been given: what is measured out to God is measured back, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

Scriptures: Joel 2:25-26

Is it vain to serve God? (Malachi 3:14-18)

  • At the close of a generation, with God about to go silent for 400 years, the same question was asked: it is vain to serve God; what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance and walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?
  • Against that question stood a remnant: they that feared the Lord spake often one to another, and the Lord hearkened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord and thought upon his name.
  • His answer claims them as his own: in the day when he makes up his jewels he will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him; then shall men return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

Scriptures: Malachi 3:14-18

By the obedience of one (Romans 5:19-21)

  • Mary was obedient in spite of the ridicule of her day, and her son learned the pattern: in the garden he prayed that the cup might pass, but nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done.
  • Paul's summary of the whole matter: by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous; where sin abounded, grace did much more abound, unto eternal life by Jesus Christ.
  • The residue of Christ himself remains after his going — his Spirit, sent not to leave the church comfortless, to lead and guide into all truth; because of one man's obedience the hearers have access into the holy of holies.
  • The closing appeal: do not quit praying for the prodigal child or grandchild; build a room in the altar tonight, for the residual blessing of obedience meets you in the room you build for him.

from the rising of the Sun to the going down of the Saints I don't know what you came to do but I've just come to praise the name of the Lord I feel at home in this room tonight I feel like God has already set the stage for what he's going to preach into this house and breathe into the spirit in the fabric of this church how many come from for a word from God tonight it is such an honor to be here and to be with this first family brother sister Carpenter and their family are truly truly our friends and I give honor to them and it is it is such a high honor to stand behind this desk I have watched I have watched from a distance what God is doing here in Maryville and I always want to connect our family and our church to people that are doing something in the body of Christ that are reaching the world aren't you thankful for a pastor in first family leadership that are missions driven that believe in the cause of this great gospel I'm so glad that my wife and my daughter and son-in-law are with us tonight we have several members of our church that are here that drove just to be here tonight to support their pastor and I give honor to them tonight Hallelujah to say I have been nervous about this evening I have known for over a year but my hands are sweaty I'm sweating from the top of my head to the sole of my feet but I'm is it okay if I'm just me tonight I'll just feel a whole lot better if you'll just allow me to be who I am if you have your Bibles turn with me to Second Kings chapter 4 verse number eight second Kings chapter 4 verse 8 and it fell on a day that Elisha pastor shunum where was a great woman somebody say great woman and she constrained him to eat bread and so it was that as oft as he passed by he turned in dither to eat bread and she said unto her husband behold now I perceive that this is a holy somebody say holy holy man of God which passes by us continually let us make a little chamber I pray thee on the wall and let us set for him there a bed and a table and a stool and a candlestick and it shall be when he cometh to us he has an opportunity to go every house on this road he's got an opportunity to go every house in this Village but when we do what I feel in the Holy Ghost Platoon he's not going to be able to go to the next door neighbor's house he's not going to be able to go down the road but it shall be when he cometh to us that he shall turn in thither and it fell on a day that he came thither and he turned into the chamber and he lay there can you handle a little more reading and I'll let you be seated and he said to gehazi is serving call this shunamite when he had called her she stood before him and he said unto him say now unto her behold thou Hast been careful for us with all this care what is to be done for thee what is thou be spoken for to the king or to the captain of the host and she answered I dwell among my own people and he said what then is it to be done for her answered verily she has no child and her husband is old and he said call her and when he had called her she stood in the door and he said about this season according to the time of life Thou shalt embrace the Sun and she said nay my Lord thou man of God Don't Lie unto thy handmade don't don't be playing games with me don't lie to me and the woman conceived and bear a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her according to the time of life with the help of the Lord tonight I want to preach from a simple subject the residual blessing of obedience the residual blessing of obedience would you lift your hands right now into the throne room right now to the heavens right now father in the name of Jesus God your anointing is already here I pray you an anoint this word for this hour let the word fall his seed upon good ground and may the hearer let them be receptive for what thus says the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus we pray in everybody's amen if you make me a promise you can be seated if you won't sit down on what God's about to do in this house at the very own set of this message I know some of you may be saying to yourself not another message concerning the woman from shunum however tucked in the pages of this holy script is a principle that the Lord revealed to me while I was in study the word of God never reveals to us her full name but in scripture she has described as a great woman or the woman whose son he had restored to life whether or not we never know her full name and there's just something special about this little lady she has a gift of discernment unlike any of her day she was wise enough to understand and recognize that Elisha was a holy man of God but not all that she had that perception or that discernment she had a gift of persuasion that many in this room have especially my wife she convinced her husband to build a little room and a chamber on the side of the house so that when this Prophet would come by he would have a place to rest from his journey and when we gaze into the story some may say this woman was crazy but I've just come to the conclusion that I can best describe her as an obedient woman of God it's one thing to Proclaim you have the gift of discernment it's one thing to Proclaim you have the guilt of persuasion but it's another thing to step out of the norm and Obey what you're feeling this little lady was convinced that something special was experienced when the prophet came by I'm not sure if she ever thought this but my suspicions are she knew if I'm ever going to get a miracle if I'm ever going to have what I need I just got to do something out of the norm I gotta do something that'll get the attention of God and it was in that one act of obedience she began to open the portal of the supernatural it was out of that obedience that day when the prophet came he would say these words what is it to be done for thee hear me First Apostolic one act of obedience put her in the place for the supernatural to begin to work in her life I know this may seem like just a normal ordinary Sunday evening but I've come in the Holy Ghost to tell somebody that you're one act of obedience has opened the access way for the supernatural to flow into your circumstances and into your life Pastor Carpenter I had this Revelation when she placed a priority on the man of God's rule God Place priority on her womb I don't know who I'm preaching to you must understand from her one act of obedience came that little baby that she had been praying for one act of obedience she got to hear the Cry of a little baby boy that she had petitioned God for no doubt they had tried to have children but she was Barren but on this day due to her one act of obedience one one God performed a miracle in her life God opened her womb could it be that you're one act of obedience is about to open up the doorway to what you have need of you're one act of obedience away from a miracle I'm telling you in the Holy Ghost some of you are wondering how this is going to work out how that's going to work out you're questioning what what God are you doing in my life but can I just prophesy you're just one act of obedience away from a supernatural Awakening in your family in your marriage in your children I wish I had two or three that would believe with me right now you're just one I just wish you couldn't visualize what you prayed for that God says I've just been waiting I've been watching I've been listening one act of obedience just one you may be oh one one you would have thought she had missed God or something let me just say you'd probably thought God was cruel because that child grew and fulfilled many of their hopes and dreams but it didn't take long and it fell on a day that the gift or the blessing that God gave her that kid felt sick all we know is that young lad complained about his head hurting we don't know if it was a heat stroke from working in the heat we don't know if it was a heart we don't know what it was but this father understood the importance and that father instructed you better take this boy to his mama I don't know what to do with him he doesn't got sick and I don't have a cure he's done to God in a way that there's no life in him but when we walk into the story of second Kings chapter 4 verse 20. the child lay lifeless somebody say he died no life nothing however what this great woman who we still don't know her name what she does next is nothing less than extraordinary she remembers that little room that she built on the side of her house she remembers where that Prophet lay she remembered I remember when I needed a baby and God spoke to me that little lady said I don't know where else to take him but I'm taking him to that original Act of obedience I'm taking him to the room that produced him I've taken him to the place where God opened my womb to the place that I built in obedience she took him back to that place and I Rise to tell you there is a place that you can go like none other there is a place that many in this room have been healed your children in this room have been dedicated many of you have received the Holy Ghost in this room why do you think we put so much emphasis on coming to the house of God because there's just some places that you go that are different than any other place there's just some places you go that miracles happen there's just some rooms that you build that's a supernatural to just find you there's just some places that are reserved for God to meet you this little lady knew if I can just get him in the room that I built in obedience Pastor Carpenter that there would be a residual blessing come flowing back to me I said a residual blessing you may say Pastor Brent what does residual mean it's remaining after the greater part or quantity has gone it's a quantity remaining after other after other things have been subtracted and allowed for and as that child lay on that prophet's bed Mama took a journey to see the prophet I can just see her walking down the road with her little purse on her shoulder her long dress and her long hair she said I don't know where the Prophet is but I'm about to find this dude she walked down that dusty trail and have y'all seen the prophet have y'all seen where he's at no we ain't seen him this week I don't know where but those same gifts begin to start working that caused her to build that little room and it wasn't long until she found them she found where he was and she began to tell him what was happening and he's oh I Know Who You Are I remember how you took good care of me I remember how you put that bed in such a way yeah and how you put that lamp beside that bed and you put that stool in that there oh I Know Who You Are tell me what's going on you ain't gonna believe this you remember that child you prophesied oh yeah I remember that he's dead in the Very Room that you've laid in and something come on that prophet take me to where he's at take me to where that boy is at I've come to prophesy some of you need to take some of your situations some of you need to take some of your problems to the very place that you have built in obedience some of you don't believe a miracle still happens but God's getting ready to confirm his word in this room for when that Prophet saw that that child lay on his bed death death was laying where life had laid death was in the face of a prophet who had spoke this child into existence and that Prophet said Mama you got to get out of here let me handle this me and God he shut the door on him he laid upon that dead corpse and the Bible said he put his mouth upon the child and his hands upon the child's hands did you get where and the Bible says that flesh wax warm it heated up a little bit but he still wasn't a lie he was warm just to send a signal to the prophet it ain't over yet have you ever played any games where you just said you're getting warmer you're getting close you're getting warmer I feel like that in the Holy Ghost some of you getting warmer looking close to the miraculous you're getting close to God revealing his hand that Prophet began to walk to and throw in that house he began to walk to and fro and he wasn't satisfied with just getting warm stretched himself up on that corpse again and when he stretched himself this time the Bible says that child sneezed seven times and the eyes of that child open and in other words the child came back to life I hope you're getting the picture I'm trying to weave in paint but your acts of obedience can bring back to life that which you thought was dead I feel a release about to take place in this room it may be a child it may be a grandchild it may be apparent it may be a marriage it may be a career it may be a promotion it may be an education path but just one act of obedience can produce a residual blessing towards you just just one act can produce a residual after everything's been accounted for after everything's been taken away after everything's been allowed for here comes like The Bloodhounds of Heaven come and trailing you down and say aha here's the miracle you've been praying for that child would come back to life that child would live a Victorious Life with its parents but I'd love to tell you that's where the story ends but it would appear that historians had made an error in scripture because there is a gap between chapter 4 and chapter 8. where once again we find this precious shunamite woman again we don't know her name but she made the book this time the same man of God Elisha gives her a prophetic word you need to leave this country there's a famine coming but it's not just a famine it's called on by God you got to remember when the prophet tells his little lady this she's being asked to leave the home in the land that she had worked for her whole life you're asking her to leave a place where the miraculous had took place you're asking her to leave a room that she had built for the prophet where God answered her prayers and where God fulfilled the dreams and Visions she had and her and her husband although experiencing so much pain so much joy in this home side to obey and be obedient and according to scripture she never asked one question she has so much respect for the man of God the Bible says she arose and did after the saying of the man of God the journey would take her to the land of the Philistines Arch Rivals of the armies of God so much for saying you can't live for God in this world she had to go and Pitch her ten in the Philistine camp all she was operating on was just one word arise and go there's a famine you can be in the front yard of hell and still live for God when you've got a word from the Lord all you need is that word to live through and whether through any hell that you're going through but you see this little lady was different than anyone in Scripture very different for this little lady in her household lived in the country of the Philistines for seven years she had passed her test she had survived the famine and she was ready to go back home but when she got back home somebody else is living in her house somebody else had taken over the room she built in obedience somebody else was you know living for free on what she had worked her whole life for it got her so distressed she said you know what I've been to the prophet and I ain't scared of the king she got her little purse and she said I'm on my way to see the king I'm fixing to plead my case to the king I want all my stuff back they ain't coming in I left on a word from God and he ain't gonna disappoint me he ain't gonna leave me now I've been doing what I've what I've done I've been faithful I've been obedient and a god-cold individual ought to do you've come too late to tell me that the devil can live rent free in my house I wish a mom and a daddy would agree with me the devil ain't gonna live rent free in my house the devil ain't gonna live her rent free laughs who in the world's knocking on the king's court King go go see who's that at the door it was wow she was in the process of entering into a place where you you had to be acknowledged you had to be accepted you had to be invited in and the King was having a conversation with gehaza who just so happened to be the servant of Elijah and gehazi was answering questions of the king tell me about the Miracles tell me about all the Miracles that Elisha has ever done tell me about them I'll tell you King let me tell you there was a time that a little lady convinced her husband to build a room on the side of her house craziest thing we've ever seen but it was without fail every time we went by this little lady's house we stayed with her we stayed in that house and one day the prophet asked her what do you have need of she didn't really want to tell him but she said I don't have any kids I'm barren and God blessed him with a child and there was another season of life and you know that child that God blessed her with that same child died and they took that child back to the bed that Elijah had slept really you got to be kidding me no no no no what happened next well you ain't gonna believe this he kicked us all out of the room he spent a few moments in there and the next thing we know that little boy is walking out with the Prophet Elijah life back in his body breathing on his own wow gehazi is telling the story that's when she shows up that's when the knock came on the door you know what I've just told you behold the shunamite woman behold the lady that I've just been telling you mean to tell me you're the lady I'm the lady you mean to tell me that's your son that was dead and now it that's him it was in the process of confirming the story that the King has to pose the question what are you doing here well King I can just imagine let me just tell you I listen to the prophet of God and I left but when I got home somebody's living in my house and the King stops mid-sentence and said I'm fixing to appoint a certain officer to you you're not just going to have anybody I'm sending somebody that I trust and he says here's what I want you to do when you get to the house I don't care if they are there kick them out I don't care if they sitting at the kitchen table their time they're getting evicted today and here's what I'm going to do I'm going to restore oh somebody say oh that was hers and all the fruits of the field y'all ready for this since the day that you left the land even until now somebody better hold my mule cause I'm about to shout up in this room when I read this story something strange leaps out to me all I know that there was a seven year famine all around her there was a seven year famine everywhere else but that little lady her land was making crops when nobody's land was making crops her little piece of property was yielding something when nobody else's was when nobody else's was making corns hers was making corn when nobody else's was making weed hers was making weed and when I see the word restore it means to return something to a former condition return to a former Place return to a former position to bring back a previous right Korean state the king ordered that certain officer restore unto her all that was hers but not only that she was given the fruit of the field since the day she walked out the door I don't know how they did it I don't have proof of it but you see what one act of obedience will do some of you may feel like you're in a family some of you may feel like you've lost it all some of you but I've come to declare a restorative word over you it may seem like All Is Lost but I've come to prophesy to declare and pronounce over you restoration and residual over you it may look like you've lost it all it may look like there is no hope but don't you ever forgive your acts of obedience you have not been forgotten he says the Lord of hosts I am the Lord your God I cannot lie I stand tonight on your behalf to decree and declare you're just one word away from complete restoration from your residual blessing of obedience Joel chapter 2 pastor I will restore unto you the years that the locusts hath eaten the canker worm the caterpillar the Palmer worm my great Army which I sin among you you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied but sometimes we don't read the rest of this and praise the name of the Lord your God see when you get a word of restoration over you there's a prophetic word that comes out I'm going to restore restore restore and then there's a pause it's time to praise God in advance it's time to praise the name of the Lord that he hath dealt wondrously with you some of you are just one handcuff away some of you are just one Leap away some of you are just one dance away what is it that you have need of hear me when I say there's only one thing that keeps on giving after you've given it obedience you may return that Holy sacred ten percent unto the Lord but he says give and it shall be given unto you good measure press down shaken together running over shall men give unto you you give it to and then God goes to stop him you give it and God starts doing it you're giving God starts doing what only God can do I'll press it down I'll shake it up I'll pour it back to you he goes on to say with the same measure that you meet with all it shall be measured to you the same way you measure it out it's the same way it's coming back see you're connected to a residual blessing I dare you to try God I dare you dare you try God you give because your Labor's not been in vain Pastor you've been faithful in God seeing all that you have done you're connected to a residual blessing this church is connected to a residual blessing I've heard people say is it really worth living for God do we have to obey certain things do we have to do sir do I have to live do I have to live holy do I have to live separate do I have to live consecrated unto God do I have to Faithfully return my tithing offers do I have to be baptized in Jesus name do I have to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to make it to heaven I find in closing Malachi 3 14. the same question being asked at the close of a generation the last book of the Old Testament God is about to go silent for 400 years and the writer would pin these words ye have said is it vain to serve God do I have to serve God what prophet is it that we have kept his ordinance that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts and now we can call the proud happy yay they that work wickedness are set up yea they that tell God are even delivered let me tell you there was a remnant then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another the Lord hearkened and heard it and a book of remember a book of remembrance was written before him for them that fear of the Lord and that thought upon his name and they shall be mine saith the Lord a residual blessing of obedience a book was written their names were placed in it and it would be said and they shall be mine says the Lord of hosts and in that day when I make up my jewels I will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him then shall you return and discern between the righteous and the wicked but between him that serveth God in him that serveth him not to fulfill this plan no God broke his 400 years of Silence in the Book of Matthew with the proclamation from the angel of the Lord Jesus would be born and that the purpose would be to save his people from their sins Mary had to be obedient in spite of the ridicule in spite of the day and the hour unmarried and never knowing a man she was obedient she gave the example of obedience to her son that would one day have to be obedient to the life purpose for his own life in the garden he prayed father let this cup pass but nevertheless not my will but thine will be done Jesus Christ understood that there would be a residual blessing that would be passed down to the Church of the Living God through one act of obedience through one act of obedience that would eventually present himself a bride what is this blessing it's the baptism of the Holy Ghost Pioneer of the New Testament Church the Apostle Paul wrote for by one man's disobedience many were made sinners so by The Obedience of one shall many be made righteous moreover the law entered that the offense might abound but where sin abounded Grace did much more about that as Sin hath reigned unto death even so my grace Reign through righteousness unto the eternal life by Jesus Christ Our Lord foreign I read the scripture I could not help but remember and recognize the many In this passage one shall but one obedient one man's obedience shall many be made righteous many that you and I that's us chewing up that's us we get to be partakers I wonder tonight if there may be one musicians if there could be more that would say I'm ready for one act of obedience to loosen something in my life I'm ready for one act of obedience to create a residual blessing that will go beyond me and to my children and at my children's children oh he is no longer here I've seen him Ascend into heaven but he said I'm not going to leave you comfortless I'm going to send the residue of myself I'm going to send the residue after I'm gone it's what's left because after I'm gone it's what's left and what's left is going to be enough to turn the world upside down I watched it after me it's now going to live in you it's going to lead and guide you into all truth it's the residue of him his spirit that still remaineth and it's alive today residual blessing of obedience would you stand to your feet what is it that you need to what is it that you just need to remind god of not that he has a bad memory but sometimes we just need to put you in the Lord Lord Do You Remember I dedicated my child I gave him unto the Lord I put him in your hands I did the best I knew how to do some of you sit here tonight child you raised in truth has walked away they're living a life of sin they're living a life of transgression that God sent me to tell you don't quit praying for that prodigal don't quit praying for that baby don't quit praying for that son or daughter don't quit praying over that grandchild some of you cry yourself to sleep over the mistakes you've made one of the things you wish you could go back and redo but oh God there's a residual blessing coming some of you about to get some stuff back somebody's about to get some stuff back seem to have just wandered away but oh I've come to tell you the residual blessing of obedience will meet you in a room that you build for him some of you need to build a room tonight in this altar some of you need to construct a room in prayer oh you think your calling is evaporated no no no no no what's left is what God's going to use you'd think you've made the ultimate mistake oh but God says I'm going to use what's left it may look like little it may look barren but God says I'm a restore I'll go restore unto you because of one man's obedience we have access because of one man's obedience we can go into the holy of holies because of one man's obedience I can surrender that's it that's your church take it back to the room that you've built in obedience take it to an altar where God delivered you take it to that special place
