Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Answering the call to follow
- May's theme is casting the nets — being fishers of men — but her subject is obedience: answering the call to follow by obeying the Master's voice.
- Whoever will come after Jesus must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow him.
- The first call is repentance: rend your heart and not your garments, turn to the Lord with all your heart — for except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
Scriptures: Mark 8:34; Joel 2:12-13; Matthew 4:17; Luke 13:1-5
Obeying the call to baptism
- She remembers her own baptism as a nine-year-old — the first in her church's new baptistry — and the fresh feeling of coming up out of the water a new person, a feeling we should want for everybody.
- John baptized with water unto repentance, but the one coming after him is mightier and baptizes with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
- He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Scriptures: Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:16; John 3:5
Obeying the call to salvation
- Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God — and some stop at repentance and baptism when God has so much more.
- Peter's answer stands as the plan: repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus picture salvation itself — the cross our repentance, the grave our baptism, the resurrection our new life in the Holy Ghost — and repentance remains a daily practice; we do not graduate from it.
Scriptures: John 3:3; Acts 2:38
Obedience demonstrates love, gives direction, and witnesses
- Obedience demonstrates our love for God: this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous.
- Obedience gives a road map for our lives: God's thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us an expected end, and we find him when we search for him with all our heart.
- Obedience is an act of witnessing — we are his witnesses, and the Holy Ghost is given to them that obey him; someone is always watching our lives, and the hungry are waiting for someone to share the good news.
Scriptures: 1 John 5:2-3; Jeremiah 29:11-13; Acts 5:32
Obedience knows him, worships, and believes
- Obedience increases our knowledge of God: hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
- With the psalmist she prays: teach me the way of your statutes, give me understanding, make me go in the path of your commandments — obedience is also an act of worship, as Abraham's unquestioning obedience on the mountain was worship.
- By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out not knowing where he went; and Jesus calls the obedient his friends — you are my friends if you do whatever I command you.
Scriptures: 1 John 2:3; Psalm 119:33-35; Hebrews 11:8; John 15:14
Obedience brings the blessed life
- Obedience brings joy and strengthens the walk: blessed is the man that fears the Lord and delights greatly in his commandments, and his seed shall be mighty upon the earth.
- If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land — as Peter found when he let down the net at Jesus' word after an empty night and the catch filled both ships until they began to sink.
- Be doers of the word and not hearers only: obedience is better than sacrifice, and the doer of the work is blessed in his deeds.

the theme for May is casting your nets and we all know the story and I'm not even going to talk about that tonight but that is the theme for me and um we casting our Nets and we know that that's the Great Commission we're supposed to be uh Fishers of Men that's what you know when we come into the church and we're born again we're on a mission right then and there to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ but as I was praying and studying and praying some more and studying some more uh for the month of May um I kept going back to the topic of obedience and you know it takes obedience to follow Christ so the topic for tonight is answering the call to follow obeying the Master's Voice because that's where it starts see God calls but do we answer and so obedience to me is is of the most importance because being obedient to his word without that then who are we and what are we if we're not being obedient to God and to his word um in Mark chapter 8 and verse 34 it reads and when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also he said unto them whosoever will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me so that the question is and I I can look around and I I I know you you've answered the call to follow Jesus so if this seems like something that well we already know this Stacy well let it be a reminder I think sometimes I like to be reminded of some things in my walk with God and as I was studying and praying and reading um I got to thinking you know the first thing we do is there's a call to repentance we have to obey that call did you obey the call to repentance yes we did do you remember maybe some of you I don't know all of your stories but maybe you didn't grow up in the church I don't know maybe some of you uh didn't feel a call to repent until it was your teen years or your young adult or I I don't know I don't know your all of your stories but at at some point each of us heard that call to repent and we o we obeyed that call I can remember as a child I grew up in church and those of you who have known me for a while you some of you know my story but I grew up in church and I remember thinking oh I've got I want the holy ghost at a very young age and I was the oldest of three girls and my two sisters my two younger sisters um they got the holy ghost at a younger age than me and I never really understood that sister Jennifer I mean I was a model child so I just assumed that you know my one sister got the holy ghost at age six uh my other sister got the a uh holy ghost at age seven well I was nine and I you know and there's only like a maybe a year in between us we're very close in age uh but I never never quite understood why they got the holy ghost at a younger age than me because I was always in the altar always always repenting I wanted the Holy Ghost I was so hungry but anyway I still remember uh listening to teachings and preaching and thinking I just could not wait to get to the altar because even as a young child I could feel that call to repentance I believed in that uh so we've got to obey the call to repent and in Joel to um chapter 2 verse 12 and 13 therefore also now sayeth the Lord turn you even to me with all your heart and with fasting and with weeping and with mourning and Rend your heart not your garments and turn unto the Lord your God for he is gracious and merciful slow to anger and of great kindness and repenteth him of the evil repentance is turning your heart towards God repentant repenting is turning away asking God to forgive you for some sins or whatever's in your life that goes against his word and it's with the intent not to go back and to follow Jesus Matthew chapter 4 and I have a lot of scriptures I don't know if I'm going to get to them all but Matthew chapter 4 verse1 17 from that time Jesus began to preach and to say repent the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and this is Jesus preaching repent so we know that that is vital that is a absolutely it's it's a necessity Luke 13 and uh verse 1-5 there were present at that season some that told him of the galileans whose blood pilate had mingled with their sacrifices and here's Jesus answering said unto them suppose you that these galileans were Sinners above all the galileans because they suffered such things that's a question and he answers that question nay I tell you nay but except you repent ye shall all likewise perish or those 18 upon the tower in saleon fell and slew them thinking that they were Sinners above all men that dwell in Jerusalem I tell you nay but except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish so repentance is something it's part of Salvation we don't get to move forward and when we're sharing the gospel which is basically what we're going to start talking about for the month of May when when we become Witnesses and and we're sharing the gospel this is part of what we have to share is the Plan of Salvation there has to be obedience first we have to be willing to hear the voice of God calling us and answer that call answer the call obey the call to repent um
obeying the call to baptism now we've been baptized we've watched somebody get baptized on Sunday who gets excited when somebody goes down in the water isn't do you remember when you were baptized oh I do let me tell you okay this is going to tell my age a little bit I live I grew up in a small town and for a long time when there was a baptism we went to the lake there were two lakes nearby and I don't care what month it was my uh I it could be you people had to literally those stories where they had to break ice to get into water it really it does happen it really did happen but now my church we got a baptistry a new baptistry that was a big deal big deal and I was the first one to get baptized in it I know how special no so I mean I would have remembered it I'm sure if I was because it was in January I would definitely remember to had I been taken down to the lake but I remember the excitement as that nine-year-old child being baptized and that feeling and sometimes I think we need to stop because we get so caught up in our routines even our church routines that we don't think back to that time of I felt that first tug at my heart to repent and that first that time that I got baptized and come up out of that water I felt like a new person now yes I was a child I did receive the Holy Ghost before I got baptized but oh my goodness that feeling of that water and just and knowing and and hearing it preached about and taught about since I was a baby and thinking oh and I just thought you know here I am I'm I'm a real child of God I'm in the family of God and it felt so special and we don't need to lose that just because we become uh accustomed to this Christian Life this Christian journey and the things that we face as adults sometimes we can become complacent and we can kind of forget and not think on those things but it does US good to look back and remember what God did for us and that feeling that fresh new feeling of coming up out of that water speaking in a Heavenly language what a beautiful experience and you know the thing is is we should want that for everybody out there every neighbor every stranger every family member every friend everybody we should want them to experience that but it starts with obedience we cannot ignore obedience um Matthew chter 3:1 I indeed B this is John the Baptist I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance but he that cometh after me is mightier than I whose shoes I am not worthy to Bear he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire and we know that Jesus as our example he was baptized he was just that perfect spotless lamb who came to be an example and to give us salvation a promise for eternal life now we can go to Mark 16 and chapter 16 verse 16 he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned doesn't sound very good does it baptism is necessary for salvation John uh chapter 3 and verse 5 Jesus answered verily verily I say unto thee except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God what a sad thing you know but it people will hear the voice of God call them to repentance and they will turn a DE and that breaks my heart because we know the rewards of living for God we know the joy that comes from living for God and we want to share that with everybody we want people to to experience what we've experienced it's life changing so now we're going to um
obeying uh the call to Salvation John 3 and3 Jesus answered and said unto him verily verily I said into thee except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God now this I guess kind of gets where some people I've heard it with my own ears uh they they stop with baptism they've done repentance and they've done baptism and they feel good about where they are but God has so much more so much more and we know that if you've experienced the infilling of the the the Holy Ghost then you know you know the power and the joy the Unspeakable Joy that comes from being filled with his sweet sweet spirit and I've often wondered you've got to want more it's like Jesus is offering this gift hey you've repented you've been baptized but what about salvation it's a gift that I'm going to give to you and it's like you've turned your back and said no I don't need that I feel good about what I've done so far I'm good but that's not it Acts 2:38 then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost do you remember the day that you were filled with the power the gift of the Holy Ghost do you remember do you remember the joy sometimes I wonder do we really remember and yes we have power packed Services Holy Ghost filled services and it's wonderful but sometimes I think it's good to look back and remember the first time that first time that you felt it I felt like a feather I remember even as a child I thought this is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened and you know at 54 it's still the most wonderful thing that has ever happened is this the Plan of Salvation obeying that voice of God because I look around and I see others that were raised in church just like I was and they are not they're not being obedient to the voice of God they're not listening to that voice and that's heartbreaking because we hear and we see we read what's in the word you can't enter the kingdom of God we've got to be obedient there's got to be obedience the perfect the perfect example for us of obedience and submission it's found in the life and in the death of Jesus Christ he's a perfect example he lived in the flesh for 33 years he was faced with Temptations but he overcame that he was sinless he was spotless he was the perfect sacrifice he was perfect but he served he lived a life as an example for us the perfect symbolic example of Salvation is the death the burial and the resurrection uh symbolic of Salvation because you have the cross the cross represents its death and that connects us with repentance how many know that repentance is not always easy it's not it's the ugly part of Salvation can I just say that why because the the cross there was that was a brutal death and that's what is representing our repentance our flesh has to die Paul says I Die daily so just because we're sitting here tonight you know we're in this congregation we're spirit filled we we've obeyed The Voice we've we've obeyed these steps there comes a time we have to check ourselves every every day if Paul said I Die daily that means he's checking his Lord check my heart search my heart I don't want anything to interfere with my relationship with Jesus so that's what repentance is is our flesh dying we don't ever graduate away from repentance not until we make it to heaven but we don't graduate so we need to have a spirit of repentance that's continual that is never ending because we cannot just think that we're okay God search my heart because when we really earnestly pray that if there's anything in our heart in our mind take captive every thought cast down every imagination anything anything that's within me anything God that would separate me from your spirit and in your presence God I don't want anything to interfere with my witness or my testimony remove it show me and let me be better that's repentance after we've already come to Salvation so um so the cross it represents our re our repentance it's death it's just like in the the Tabernacle in the Old Testament when you go into that Tabernacle and you're familiar with this and I'm not teaching on this either but um um the first part of the Tabernacle is at that altar where they brought their sacrifices there was nothing Pleasant about that I could get very graphic about what the sacrifice is but you know the the the an everything was consumed and and that's the sacrifice uh but repentance and that's what that is the cross the death it represents our repentance then there's the grave that's connects our burial it connects us to baptism we go down you've heard it said we go down in a watery grave and and I'm thankful for that and Jesus he was buried in a tomb he a borrowed tomb but that represents our baptism we've got to be buried that's a necessity and then his resurrection thank the Lord for resurrection that represents new life it connects it connects us to the Holy Ghost that's what that is so we got the resurrection so he is Jesus is the perfect example he in in life and in death to what salvation is and guess what that is the gospel that is the good news that we are to share with others that's what we want others to experience lost family members uh people that you may work with we want to share this gospel we want them to understand the importance of being obedient to the voice of God when he calls them to repentance when they he calls them to baptism when he calls them a little deeper to be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost it's a promise it is a promise so now we're going to talk about uh maybe some attributes benefits of obedience and I know some of you may be thinking right now maybe I don't you may not but how is this going to tie in to the theme for um the month of May which is being fissures of men and casting our Nets I wanted to lay a foundation number one maybe as a reminder of what we're supposed to be sharing with others and everything we do our life has to be a picture of obedience to God and His word if we're going to be effective in his kingdom we have first got to be obedient we have to have a spirit of obedience to him submission
so let's talk about some Rewards or benefits attributes attributes of obedience number one obedience to God is a demonstration of our love for him uh our love for God should Inspire us to obey him and his word first John uh there's a blare here 1 John chapter 5 verse 2 and three it reads by this we know that we love the children of God when we love God and keep his Commandments for this is the love of God that we keep his Commandments and his Commandments are not Grievous and we truly love God we're going to keep his Commandments and I'm not talking just the Commandments The Ten Commandments you get into the word of God you understand there's a whole lot of Commandments things that he commands us to do in his word but the if we love him we want to be obedient to him and to his word so it is a demonstration of our love for him when we're obedient to him number two obedience provides a road map for our lives it gives us Direction obedience we know the scripture in Jeremiah for I know the thoughts that I think toward you sayith the Lord thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected in then shall you call upon me and you shall go and pray unto me and I will hearken un to you and you shall seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart see we can trust God to direct Our Lives to order our steps when we seek to obey him and his word his leading Lord order my steps and you don't question him because you're trusting him because you're being obedient to his voice he's calling you he's leading you we can trust him so if if we want him to order our steps that takes trust and that takes faith that takes obedience and sometimes we don't understand everything do we do you understand I don't I don't always understand that road map or or what things look like I don't understand why we're having to go down this road but God sees it there's an expected end he knows the end from the beginning and when we choose when it's our choice to obey his leading we can we can be assured that he will take us to that Divine destination one day because isn't that what this is all about don't we want to make it to Heaven we've got to have a spirit of obedience and it doesn't just stop with the Plan of Salvation it's a life of obedience it's a lifestyle of obedience to God and to his word and to his voice that's calling number three obedience is an act of witnessing now we can't say that we love God and not be willing to represent him or share the good news with others because that's part of what we've been called to do we we are called to be Witnesses tell that testimony speak it out to those that are you know on on the job at the workplace at school at the store running your errands but there's there's a world of lost people that are hungry absolutely hungry for something and some of them have no idea that it's Jesus some of them have no idea about the Plan of Salvation they haven't experienced what we've experienced and they're living in a world and it looks hopeless that's why we have to be a witness we've got to tell the good news if we want to be effective in the kingdom of God we've got to take what he's done for us and we've got to share it let's not be stingy let's share what God's done for us let us tell the good news acts 5:32 and we are his Witnesses of these things and so is so is also the Holy Ghost whom God hath given to them that obey him obedience is an act of witnessing when we obey God and we Model A A Christlike life others will be drawn to you if you ever been have you ever been in a place didn't know anybody thought you maybe just run in the store and run back out and or in a restaurant or just somewhere and someone single you out or maybe on social media I've had people send me messages uh hey people I didn't even really know pray for me the thing is someone is always watching and listening to us or is our life being a witness do we represent Jesus are we telling are we speaking the gospel just with when we walk into a room sometimes you don't have to say a word that's so that's why it's so important not just to be filled with the Holy Ghost but to be full of the Holy Ghost we that's something that doesn't need to lie stagnant that gift needs to be bubbling over because when you're full of the Holy Ghost you will make a difference on your workplace you will make a difference in the our our youth can make a difference in their classrooms on their jobs uh at the store it doesn't matter when we when we have the Holy Ghost bubbling over full of the Holy Ghost you have been you've got a prayer life you're in the word of God you can just walk into a place and change the whole atmosphere I've watched it happen and that's what we have so not only then that's not an excuse to be silent well I'm just going to walk in here and they're just going to feel the Holy Ghost no we still got to speak we still need to use our words but that's what I'm saying is if we're living this life obedient to him and to his word we can do more than just walk walk into a room we can share it there are people that are hungry and I know I understand sometimes there's a Fear Factor there that what if I share this and they don't want to hear it we move on to the next person somebody is waiting on you to share your testimony somebody's waiting on me to be a witness to them somebody's hungry for Jesus and who are we to keep it from them we can we can just like the disciples turn our world upside down if we will just open our mouths and be obedient to what God has called us to do who wants to turn their world upside down who wants to turn your family upside down do you have any family members that need the Holy Ghost you have any friends that need the Holy Ghost do you have any co-workers that need the Holy Ghost I would love to see those doors open and our families that are lost walk in and run down to the Altar and experience what we've experienced your co-workers and say you know what I've watched him live this life I've listened to him he's witnessed he's asked me to church I'm going to surprise that and he's going to come in and you you just never know but if we don't do it if we're not obedient to that call and we're not going to be a witness then look who could be missing out so people are watching us and that and does that feel is that a weight that we carry yeah I guess it is because what if I walk past somebody in my own little world with my own little problem problems and I pass up somebody that was just thinking oh reached out to me there's something I I just and then I just walk on do we need to be sensitive in the Holy Ghost yes we do we certainly do
number four obedience increases our knowledge of him our knowledge of God will be increased when we choose to obey him and his word by learning more about his character obedience becomes easier because the more we know about our savior the more in love we become with our savior and then obedience is like it's like something you just you want to do it becomes so much easier so the more knowledge we have about who he is we can be obedient to him and it it's something that we want to do it's nothing that's a burden to us at all first John chapter 2 and verse three reads and hereby we do know that we know him if if we keep his Commandments if we obey him we will know him number five obedience is an act of worship God is worthy he's worthy of Our Praise he's worthy of our adoration uh us expressing our love to him our our gratitude our Thanksgiving to him he's worthy of all that all the praise and it's important that we worship Him by obeying his commands um I think of sometimes I think of um Abraham and Isaac not my notes but I love that story and I'm always no matter how many times I've read it or I've heard it preached or taught I always think you know there was this son I'm not going to go into a whole lot of detail because I don't have a lot of time but we know the story they're promised a son and they wait you know they make a mess of some things whatever we're not going to get into all that but God promised them a son and then when the promise is fulfilled they have Isaac then when he's a you know a young boy a lad then God asked Abraham to sacrifice him he doesn't share this little tidbit of information with his son Isaac but there he goes no questions asked he just starts Gathering the things necessary for the sacrifice that gets me because how many of us could be just so quick to obey God's voice when he asked us just to give the most precious thing that we have but my goodness what an expression of faith and there they go up to that mountain and he's he's preparing sacrifice and we know the RAM and the thicket it all we know what transpired the story but that was worship what a lot of people called sacrifice Abraham called worship because he didn't question God's plan I often wondered inwardly was he thinking what in the world there's no no hint of that in the word he just obeyed and that was an act of worship wor worship and I feel like that's what Abraham was doing it wasn't a sacrifice it was him worshiping God by being obedient to his voice it should be the desire of each of us to give glory and honor to his name through obedience as we uh join the psalmist David when he reads he in Psalm 119 33 and 35 through 35 when he says teach me oh Lord the way of thy statutes and I shall keep it until the end give me understanding and I shall keep thy law yay I shall observe it with my whole heart make me to go in the path of thy Commandments for there therein do I Delight we should Delight in his Commandments we should look forward to being obedient to his word um it is an act of worship being Obed OB to him uh obedience number six is an act of faith in God when we choose to obey God our faith in him increases obedience to God in his word is a demonstration of our trust I just talked about Abraham he had to trust God he would have never moved so quickly to to do what God said if he didn't trust him and look what God did he rewarded him for that obedience because he did provide the sacrifice he provided the ram in the thicket so that's what that is it's an Act of Faith of God and it begins to build our faith our faith incre increases when we start just to trust him don't question God and I know we do I have I've had questions for God but do I really trust him do I trust his voice do I trust his leading me and guiding me do I trust what he his plan for my life OB obedience is an act of faith in God it was through obedience to God that God's purpose was fulfilled in the lives of the prophets and I've talked about Abraham But Here I Go Again Hebrews 11 chapter 11 and verse 8 it reads by faith Abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance obeyed and he went out not knowing whether he went had no clue no clue most people you want to pull up a map you Google Maps whatever you use and you want to know where you're going you you're going to or or going you're planning a trip so you go ahead and you do some searches first to find out what restaurants in the area you find out about as much as you want you can do anything and find out anything about an area just by uh searching we want to know everything well on this night we're you know out your V a this night we're doing this and this and this this I'm not hey if you do that's fine it's fine fine I'm guilty of that too but here Abraham God says go and he's he doesn't even know where he's going but there he goes it's obedience obedience it's an Act of Faith do we trust God in leading us because if we do we won't ask questions we'll just go we don't know where we're going we're just going to go because God is faithful because see the thing is when we when we put our faith in him just like he provided of the RAM for Abraham for the sacrifice it's the same thing for us today when we step out in faith and say God I don't understand this but you said do this here I go God's going to provide he's just not just gonna you know throw you out there and be like have fun that's not what he's going to do it's not that's us saying I trust you because you're faithful I'm going to be faithful to you God I'm going to be obedient to you because you're faithful to me God loves us we have to I guess remind ourselves God really loves us he wants the best for his children so he's not going to lead us in paths that we don't need to go so do we trust him are we being obedient to his to his voice so it definitely obedience is an act of faith in God number seven obedience to God contributes to just a better life who wants a better life who does I mean if you don't want a better life I don't even know what to say to that but anyway we're all striving for something better right today might have been a good day but I hope tomorrow's better this year so far is really flying by but it's not a bad year A little bit better than last year but I want next year to be even better we all strive for something better well in obedience to God he will always lead us in the path that's best for us we have to trust that in obeying him he has called us his friend I love that he calls us his friend John chapter 15 and 14 it reads ye are my friends if if wow if if you do whatsoever I command you what is better than being a friend of God I mean really if you're ever having a bad day feeling bad about yourself ask yourself am I a friend of God sing we're not I'm not going to sing I've got somebody we're gonna sing that song no we'll save that for Don uh but to be called a friend of God and to know that but there is a it's contingent if we do whatsoever He commands us if we're obedient to him he is our friend and I cannot think of a better friend to have than him than Jesus my Savior what a friend we have in Jesus there's another song but there is no better friend it's good to have friends here yes but we will never ever have a friend better than him better than him and to know that he can call us his friend that's my friend that's my friend think of God looking at you saying that is my friend that should right then and there make your life better your day should immediately get better when you realize I am the friend of God when we trust him when we follow him when we obey him he will grant us the peace that passes all understanding which contributes to a better life
number eight obedience to God strengthens our Christian walk this journey that we are on when we're obedient obedient to him he gives us strength the more we read God's word the more we spend time in prayer meditating on the things of God the more we grow in obedience and Holiness as his children as his church God gives us the strength to make it even if you're having a bad day A bad season how many of you can look back on your life and say oh I remember when I didn't think I could make it I've got a few seasons in my life that I can look back and I honestly thought sister candy that I'm not going to get out of this I honestly thought this is it and when I look back and that was 30 years ago and I thank God for that because he gave me the strength to get out of that situation he healed my body he's helped me God gave me that strength and I choose today and every day to be obedient to him because he gives me the strength we're going to make it we're going to make look at your neighbor and say you're going to make it we're going to make it if we obey him and his Commandments his voice we're going to make it we're going to make it and that just makes me happy I get a little excited because we're going to make it number nine obedience to God brings joy joy joy unspeakable another song a lot of song references here tonight that was not planned uh it brings Joy uh in the Book of Psalms 112 verse 1 and 2 it reads praise ye the Lord blessed is the man that fearth the Lord that delighteth greatly in his Commandments his seed shall be Mighty upon the Earth the generation of the upright shall be blessed Joy blessings happiness all these good things come from God when we choose to obey his voice to obey his Commandments to get into his word and let it become a part of us my goodness if you don't have joy if you don't have joy get refilled with the Holy Ghost get into the word of God tell him today Jesus I choose to obey your voice I'm going to obey you your Commandments he's going to give us joy joy unspeakable joy if we obey him and closing up almost number 10 obedience results in Abundant Blessings Isaiah in the book of Isaiah chapter 1 and verse 19 it says if ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the land the Apostle Peter now this is the one reference that I'm going to make tonight about the original topic for me uh the Apostle Peter in obedience to Jesus he let down his net after his unsuccessful attempts to catch fish you know the story uh but in faith and I can almost when you read about that you can almost hear or feel the hesitancy like this is what I do you know I'm a fisherman and I've been doing this and I've not caught any fish I know all the techniques I know to do but he didn't say that but you can almost sense a little bit of reluctancy there but in faith he did obey and when they had done this this is the scripture in Luke uh chapter 5 6 and 7 and when they had done this they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net break and they beckoned unto their Partners which were in the other ship that they should come and help them and they came and filled both the ships so that they began to sink when we obey the voice of God when he gives us instruction and we obey his instruction he will pour out his Abundant Blessings here they had fished not called a thing about to call it a day do this Jesus said do this when he cast that net it was his obedience that that caused them to catch so much fish so many that it filled two ships to the point that they were both sinking you want a blessed life you want to live the blessed life be obedient to God be obedient to his instruction to his word and there are blessings upon blessings upon blessings we're robbing ourselves when we're not obedient to him We're Rob we don't know what we're withholding from maybe our family our home whatever it is we're withholding something when we are not obedient to his voice I want to live the blessed life I want my family living the blessed life so Lord let me be obedient to your voice obedience is the foundation of the Christian Life obedience James chapter 1:22 through 25 but be you doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own own selves for if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like un to a man beholding his natural face in a glass for he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgetthe into the perfect law of Liberty and continueth therein he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work this man shall be blessed BL in his deeds shall be blessed in his obedience you want to live the blessed life let's be obedient to him let's be obedient to God you know the word of God tells us that obedience is better than sacrifice if you remember the the story it was Saul who had messed up and um his name Samuel was upset with him because Saul was like I'll just I'll just make a sacrifice and and fix all my wrongdoings Samuel was upset and that's what he said obedience is better than sacrifice so let's be obedient let's obey the voice of God today tonight can you stand you can make your way back to your seat if you your original seat if you want but while we're doing that can we just lift our hands and give God the praise right now let's make up our mind to choose to obey God and His Voice Jesus Lord I thank you for your word I thank you God for your promises God I want to be found doing your will God I want to be a witness Lord for you I want to be obedient to your word and hear your voice when you call God I want to drown out the voice of the enemy that tells me I can't do something or I can't have this blessing God I want to hear your voice and I want to obey your voice and your calling God when you said come come follow me Lord I choose today and every day that when I get up I'm going to follow you God God I want to be a witness to those that are so desperately needing you right now in this world Jesus we need you Jesus we need you God give us strength in the name of Jesus we give you praise we give you honor and we give you glory you're a great God can we just clap our hands right now clap your hands to the Lord thank you Jesus
