Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Summary

  • A morning session of a camp meeting — the district and place are not named — with Barnes as the guest preacher. The channel overlay head (Proverbs 3:5-6 wording and a John 1:29 fragment, another voice), the sung altar close with the host senior pastor's address inside it, and the appended Bible-symbols glossary are other material, seamed out of this record (see packet.md). He directs two readings, Genesis 6:5-8 and the suffering-servant passage of Isaiah 53, and names Isaiah 62:1 and Lamentations 2:18 as he preaches.
  • He opens with John the Baptist, the voice crying in the wilderness, preaching the Messiah who would baptize with the Holy Ghost, and follows Jesus through the baptism and the beginning of his ministry — pressing, along the way, readiness for the rapture: the blood, the water, and the Spirit. He greets the camp, welcomes Sister Kim and the visiting ladies, and places himself in the nineties, near the end of the two-thousand-year dispensation, with only eight years of it left. Then he reads his first text, Genesis 6:5-8: God saw that the wickedness of man was great, and it repented him and grieved him at his heart that he had made man — but Noah found grace in the eyes of God. He stops on the two words, repent and grieve: grief is deep sorrow, mental distress, loss, remorse. Yesterday morning, walking and meditating and thinking and praying, he thought of the world's problems — every kingdom has its problems, every nation, every church, every family; we are living in a hurting world — and the text hit him strong and hard: when God hurts, who comforts him? Does God hurt? He just got through telling us he grieved — grieved for forty years. God has feelings: he loves, and he can be grieved, and man's sin is what grieves him.
  • For proof he reads the second text, the suffering servant: who hath believed our report, and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed — despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; we hid as it were our faces from him; surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and with his stripes we are healed. He had sorrows, but we didn't help him bear his; he had grief, and we turned our faces from him, and he traveled the road alone. And God needs rest: he read in Genesis that God created the world and then he rested on the seventh day — but lost love, sin, and failures can cause God not to rest. Prove it: for Zion's sake and Jerusalem's, "I will not rest, I cannot rest"; and Lamentations said, give thyself no rest, let not the apple of thine eye cease. Then the prophecy that came to him last year, with brother Freeman in the room and brother Buster: the apple of his eye was in danger, and the word came — pray, I need your help; the apple of my eye is in danger; I'm hurting, I'm grieved, I'm troubled; pray, pray, so I can be free. Prayer turns God loose on the situation: when Elijah prayed, the fire fell, the river rolled back, and the chariot came from heaven to carry him home.
  • Hosea knew it: Hosea said, God, I'm hurting, I lost my wife — Hosea lost one, and I've lost three, he says of his own life. With six billion people on earth, God is hurting over his people, as he hurt over Ephraim, the backsliding child he could not give up. Abraham comforted God by believing him. David comforted him: a man after God's own heart, who sang and worshiped and danced alone out on the rock where nobody could see him but God, who fought the lion and the bear shouting and praising — oh, how God loved David. But David failed, and for a year he didn't sing, didn't pray, didn't worship; sin takes the singing out of you and the worship out of you, and God got lonely for David's voice. And at the cross God hurt most of all: he came unto his own, and his own received him not; they stood around the cross mocking — he saved others, save yourself — and he died, not of the nails, but of a broken heart. God looked for a man to stand in the gap for the land, and the friend that sticketh closer than a brother is the one who stands close enough to help him.
  • John got close: in John 21, the disciple whom Jesus loved leaned on his breast and whispered in his ear — Jesus loved John because John got close to him. He wept over Jerusalem: he would have hovered over them as a hen over her little ones, but they wouldn't let him, and that hurt him — he purchased his church with his own blood, and it hurts him so bad when somebody quits, because he gave his blood to save him. A mother's love shows the shape of it: that little baby was born, and the real mother still loves her baby however far it goes in sin — and the growing boy still needs his father's words, as well as knowing his father needs his. So this morning's question: what can I do, how can I help God, how can I comfort him, how can I find grace in his eyes? Begin with one thing: give him your love, your undivided love, with all your spirit, soul, body, and mind; trust him. He needs our prayers — Jesus commanded us to pray: ask, and you shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened. He needs our fellowship: he didn't make a bunch of dummies; he made mankind in his image, somebody who could really talk back to him, somebody he could sit down with and reason — come, let us reason together — and he proved it every day, coming down to walk with Adam and Eve.
  • He closes in surrender and thanksgiving: you died on the cross for the whole world, thank you for it, Lord. When the six million were killed and people were crying, where's God, where's God — he was in Pilate's hall when they said, crucify him, let his blood be upon us and our children; he died on the old rugged cross; that's where he's always been. I just want to listen to you talk; I just want to walk around with you and let you talk to me — oh, just let me walk with you, Jesus. After the music he gives the altar appeal: I predict if you receive, it'll change your life. You are needed, or he would not have created you; you are needed, or he would not have received you into his church. He needs you, and you need him, and the needs together in fellowship make the most beautiful relationship that could ever be upon this planet earth. Do you want to be that today? Then just march down, as many as can, while we sing.

there was a young preacher named John the Baptist a voice crying in the wilderness he kept preaching people kept coming talking about the Messiah they would hear him saying over and over has come in one after me whose shoes I'm not worthy to loose he'll baptize you with the Holy Ghost I don't know that day when it happened what a great expectancy and how high headed it had risen in the hearts of the people some were sleeping they didn't know that destiny was fulfilling and then suddenly his John stood preaching he saw a face in the crowd that he hadn't seen there before Jesus he lifted those arms and that Boston shouted to that crowd behold the lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world here he is here is people you've been waiting a long time I must decrease and he must increase what are they when the Son of

God was recognized I don't know the nineties has brought in a strange feeling of destiny to me with only 8 years of this 2,000 year dispensation he left and many things can happen during this time but there is a strange feeling in the air I see it here and there among some of God's people there's a great expectancy something is about to happen something great is about to happen and the coming of the Lord is upon us even at the door today he's preparing us to trying to prepare us for the faith that can make the rapture you know all the israelites in' which is a type of it they set at midnight the clothes intact and the shoes on the feet the blood on the doorpost and a little belongings in the bag the suitcases were packed they were ready

there's waiting because the command would go forth to rise and march leave egypt forever and when the Death Angel came it didn't touch a single home to head the blood on the doorpost not a single home will fail to be visited on that great morning the resurrection and the coming of Jesus that has the blood water and spirit blood the water and spirit to make the rapture he's working to prepare us to get us ready for that moment as a few ministers awakening out of their slumber you know I have a feeling today and I'm so happy

for the vistas sister Kim glad to have you and the ladies here this visit and all of you it's going to have a sit account meeting I'll tell you some things after I read the scripture that happened yesterday morning to me in prayer and I have not been the same I never will be again since that moment and whether I can convey to get it across to you the way it came to me I don't know but I was telling investing Minister from the count meeting yesterday going through he grabbed his hand and he said this is the most exciting thing and he began to write and every time I said a word he'd write and I'm reading here in Genesis six began reading at 5:00 and God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and it repented the Lord that he had made man on earth and it grieved him at his heart and the Lord said I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth both man and beast and the creeping things in the files are there boy it repenteth me that I have made them notice the word repent twice grieve grieve and then a wonderful verse here of the eighth but Noah but Noah found grace and the eyes of God yesterday morning after walking and meditating and thinking and praying I thought of the world's problems I thought of mine that's natural sometimes we think we're the only one got any I thought the whole world is full of problems every Kingdom has its problems every nation every Church and every family has their problems we're living in a hurting world but as I walked and I thought the text hit me strong and hard when God hurts when God hurts who comforts him he say

does he hurt he just got through telling here grief means deep sorrow or mental distress loss remorse his will grieved him for 40 years when God the hurts know

how that hit me and trouble me and broke me and I thought of him he has the whole world is his problem and he needs somebody hit him sometimes he gets lonely too he cries - he has feelings too you see our love is real love if you lose what's your love are those you love that's horror has grief is heartache nobody has lost more that he's lost and our thinking has always been well everybody needs help of God we leave him out he's big powerful all wisdom and old jollies Wells within him the creator of all things he is self-sufficient he needs nothing how wrong we are how wrong we heard I read also and as a 52-year who hath believed our report and the whom is the arm of the Lord revealed for he grew up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of dry ground he had no form of common las' and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him he is despised and rejected of men a man of sorrows acquainted with grief and what did we do we hid as it were our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken smitten and afflicted but he was wounded for our transgression he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with His stripes were healed he had sorrows but we didn't help him bare his he had grease but as it were we turned our faces from him and he traveled the road alone and so alone I read in Genesis 1 that God created the world and then he rested oh you mean he needs rest maybe not the kind we need but he rested on the seventh day now but love sins and

failures the loss of love sin failures can cause God not to rest approve it either 62 in 1 for Zion and Jerusalem I will not rest I cannot rest as long as Jerusalem the apple of my eye is under attack ting lamentation 218 said give thyself no rest let not the apple of the eye season no wonder the prophecy came to me brother Freeman when you were in the room and brother Buster when the apple of his eye was in danger last year the apple of his eye was in danger and a promise it came to me pray I need your help the apple of my eye is in danger I

I'm hurting I'm grieved I'm troubled I need your help pray pray so I could be free turn loose on the situation prayer turns gada loose and whenever Elijah prayed he could turn God a loose and pull force that's why the fire fell the river rolled back and the chair came from heaven to carry him away he could pray a man now sure God is love and wisdom and knowledge in power but he has feelings he can hurt when he loses someone he loved he hurts health and we tell God I'm hurting Hosea said God I'm hurting I lost my wife she's gone he said I want you to understand Hosea he lost one and I've lost three million in so my grief is three million times stronger than more than yours Hosea a man that we look at the few people lost around linden but he looks at six billion on earth when he loses someone he loves he hurts when her father loses his son and he goes into a far country he hurts he hurts until he comes back he grieves he wondered oh where is my wandering boy tonight her where could he be now you notice here that God repents not for sin but there's something about the love and mercy that makes him change after he said something he can't save it he said Ephraim get out eyeing on a fool you know more and then later he came back said even I just hate that you go my love or turn you loose Ephraim I it was just a moment of anger I said something that my heart wouldn't let me do I have to change that's God aren't you glad he's like that this three thing he's so great about him to me his love his mercy and his forgiveness so outstanding such love but none of us know very much about such a mercy and we

think we've shown a great act of mercy just because we forgive somebody said a little something about us against he can forgive so easy he said I didn't come to condemn this world I came to save it the woman who forgave an act of adultery could have said you saw her lowdown good-for-nothin prostitute if you'll crawl for about three years I might even talk to you he didn't say he just said I forgive him just don't do it anymore that's all I ask that amazes me that really amazes me about his his forgiveness now as I said he don't ever have to repent for sin because he don't happen but because of his love and his compassion he has to her some time now God wept in the Bible and God hurt he died of a broken heart the nails didn't do it the wippen on and pounds whole didn't do it he died of a broken heart what broke his heart what broke his heart he came unto his own and he's on his way own received him not and they stood around the cross and they said mockingly he saved others save yourself I will believe he came in his own he was dying for his own and he couldn't get in a word of encouragement that was his family but he didn't want them to see him dying he sent him home he was hurting he was dying on an old rugged cost and nobody was up there with the arms around his legs then thank you Jesus for what you're doing I'm standing with you I'm going to be your friend I'm gonna happen no no he was hurting and nobody was that anything even the eternal spirit had to withdraw to let him die he said my god my God why has thou forsaken me alone hurting dying have you been hurting you probably not alone know there's somebody that likes you that maybe one in a hundred that don't but the 99 does and that would pray with if you were sick they'd hold your hand and say I love you but he didn't have that when God hurts who comes to comfort him now I read this that it thrilled my heart when he was ready to destroy the world he had nobody at the moment then suddenly he heard a voice Noah was probably somewhere open up or sacrifice the only man on earth do anything only one and I hear him saying God I love you is there anything I can do for you but God said yeah nor you could build Ark and save the human race and know us that I'll do it yeah found one and the whole earth that would help him but he was hurting comfort him when

he was hurting he found somebody he's still looking but I read once he looked everywhere he

could find not one man to stand in the gap not one person could he find that would stand in the gap to keep away the judgments of God all he needed was somebody to say wait a minute Lord used to be whatever what do you want me to do all he needed was a good prayer to save at the generation Abraham was a friend of God God called him is written a friend the sticketh closer than a brother a friend to still leave God after 25 years of seemingly failure he was still believing God standing on his word God had to raise up a nation he had to have a man he had to have a woman because the promise he made in the Garden of Eden and Eve her helm was that man and Sarah was that woman a friend God knew we could go I know Abraham I know what he'll do kind of he'll command his children see right he's my friend oh yeah he's her friend I mentioned this once before but I find another man to ward I'll mention here not men in the Bible that got enclosed to help God when he was hurting David the Bible said was a man after God's own heart and God loved David he sang from his heart to God he worshiped God he danced out there in the rock man when it was nobody to look at him but God he lifted his hands and he worshiped God outside where there was nobody to see he's saying he played his heart and he loved God he didn't do that before thousand people will you know all of this but he was alone he was alone he fought the lion and the bear shouting and praising God any time oh how God loved David but one day David failed he sinned and for a year he didn't sing he didn't pray he didn't worship he had sin in his life he didn't feel like saying he didn't feel like worshipping sam takes singing out of in worship out of you God got lonely I could hear him say it I wish I could hear they even say this morning hi it's the long I miss him so much I miss Steve so much he was a man after my own heart I don't know how to get along without this man he said Nathan good up neck without an tell David talk soon ah I believe you'll repent let's sure up he did the next morning if you see the Lord or smiled David's worshipping David seen again

an angel folder wings back up that's a man but look what he done the devil said none of your business devil I forgive him get out of the way I'll do what I want to around here all you've ever done hurt me this man he's comforting me when I hurt I'm gonna stand by him praise the Lord so you ever stop to think when you sort of get tired and wearing overworked and you don't pray in the morning look there's been a long time since I excused the name heard from Johnny Sam or bill huh I sure would like to hear careful I hope that got too busy I saw her need a little comfort this morning I've been looking at the whole world and Nations and watching the enemy prepare to destroy Israel and watch the enemy move in to just try to destroy him a church millions of my Saints been mortar didn't hear I I need a little help Seabourn God do something because it's a free world and man's are pretty more legions that's why and he bound itself to it and it came but in John 21 John the disciple whom God loved and was always leaning upon his breast John was the only disciple that seemed to know when Jesus hurt a man and he wasn't always there he went to sleep when he needed him so bad but anyways the Bible said Jesus loved John because John got close to Jesus and leaned on him and whispered in his ear you have a Princeton most wanna know I've ever known I mean so God's got troubles huh yeah I tell you he has he's got throws in Israel he's got troubles in his church he ain't the only one cries when somebody back slides he does nice talk to them one day about his what do you think about me I miss I miss him too I hurt too I'm seeing a new side of God I've saw it a little bit you know Auggie Lightman God's got a lost world he wept over Jerusalem Oh Jerusalem Jerusalem how would I hovered over you as the hand hovers over a little king but you wouldn't let me and that hurt me that grieving because you know ahead he purchased his church with his own blood and it hurts him so bad for somebody to Quentin because he gave his blood to save him you know so we asked the question this morning so

what can or how can I have God how can I help God how can i comfort him how can I find grace in his eyes the worry you'd say go build I'll be with you how can I get close enough you call me friend well we begin with one thing giving your love your undivided love with all your spirit soul and body and mind love him
