Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Summary

  • He opens standing in what he calls a Holy Ghost dynamic atmosphere, in a service framed by the 4th of July: honor has been given to the veterans who defended the country, and to the ministers over sixty-five, the district superintendent and the board — veterans, he says, of spiritual war. Then he reads his text, Genesis chapter 15 from verse 12: the deep sleep and the horror of great darkness falling on Abram, the word that his seed would be a stranger in a land not theirs and afflicted four hundred years, and the promise — "and afterward shall they come out with great substance," to go to his fathers in peace and be buried in a good old age, and in the fourth generation to come hither again, for the iniquity of the Amorites was not yet full. He stops on the word "afterward" — "It reminds me of what Joel said: and it shall come to pass afterward" — and declares that this church is living on the positive, blessing side of the afterward. The fourth generation, he says, is spelled out in Exodus chapter 6 — Levi, Kohath, Amram, and Moses — and Moses was the comeback generation. His announced subject is the sermon's whole burden: it's time for a comeback.
  • He proves the possibility of comebacks from sport and from scripture. A quarterback he read about in the newspaper built his name on bringing his team back from the largest deficit ever — down thirty-six to nothing at halftime in the pros — because there was something in his nature that would never give up. And David came over the hillside to Ziklag burned and plundered, his own men talking of stoning him, and sought God: "Shall I pursue?" and God answered in one word: "Pursue." "I've come to Louisiana to say, Devil, the party's over" — everything stolen from the children of God is coming back, and David recovered all, and spoils besides: God gives back more than was lost. Then Samson. Samson vowed to be different, and named the terms of his own fall three times over — "then shall I be weak and be as another man." Huntley remembers flying kites as a boy and chasing the string across ball fields, because what seemed to be holding the kite down was really what was holding it up: what the world thinks is holding this church down is what is holding it up, and some had better dive for the string before it is gone.
  • The middle of the sermon is the subtle paths by which the vow is lost — money, family, unprecedented success, and at last simple tiredness, the preachers who quit for the undertaker business because the people they straightened out would not stay straight. The family path is his own story. His daughter Christy rode with him everywhere as a little girl, and one day, riding down the road, she told him what she was going to do when she got big — testing him, he says now (she is married and grown, and has never done it), to learn whether her father would bend the church's standard for his own child. He told her she could do what she wanted when she was grown, but she would not play the piano or the organ in his church: a conviction is not a conviction if it bends for family — "it don't matter if it's your wife, your mama, your daddy, or your brother, or your sister, or your son, or your daughter, you're going to stand."
  • The close gathers the Samson figure into the seven locks the devil would shave from this church. First, the new birth message — come back to preaching repentance, water baptism in Jesus name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost; he still believes Acts 2:38. Second, the oneness message: even Pharaoh said, "Who is the Lord, that I should obey him" — you can't obey who you don't know. Third, holiness, preached on the 4th of July as a call back to foundational roots — the standards of dress and separation he names one by one — for the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, and without the Holy Ghost you cannot love him as you need to. And then, named in his closing summary, miracle faith, worship, prayer, and apostolic commitment. But Samson's story does not end shaven: "there is a beautiful verse in Judges the 16th chapter, and that is verse 22" — howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. His finale was greater than his entirety. The altar call follows on that word: hands go up all over the building, the song is "take me back," and he works the room through the music — pray for somebody — to the sermon's end: it's time for a comeback.

If you'd remain standing just a moment, please. What a most powerful dynamic atmosphere we are standing in tonight. There has not been anywhere in this nation a demonstration of explosives comparable to what is in this tabernacle tonight. All over our country, there have been fireworks demonstrations, but those are firecrackers compared to the dynamite that's in this tabernacle tonight. There is a Holy Ghost dynamic atmosphere in this place. And we have given honor unto our veterans that have defended our rights to liberty and freedom that we so very much appreciate and highlight on this day. I think it would only be right in the sight of God and man that we pause just a moment and I will not ask for a show of hands or various ones to stand while others are seated. If we would just take just a moment and recognize a spirit of spiritual patriotism. I'd like to give honor tonight for every man of God, for every minister of the gospel that is over 65 years of age in this tabernacle tonight who I look to as veterans of spiritual war. those who have gone before us and brought us to such an exciting hour as we're enjoying right now. Could you give a great hand clap to all of these wonderful warriors of the cross? I give honor also to our district superintendent, our district board, and special guests. They're on the platform. And we're so grateful to be in this place of worship tonight. I will do my best to preach as fast as I feel that you're responding. And that puts the pressure on you and not on me. So if you hear me repeating that means that I feel you didn't get what I said and that takes longer. So the object of this little challenge is either to get it or act like you got it. And we won't be here all that long tonight. But I feel the wonderful presence of the Lord and you are an exciting bunch to preach to. I appreciate the folks way back in the back getting with the preaching and all over this place. Would you turn

in your Bibles to Genesis chapter 15 and this is what I feel of the Lord for this very special night. And my what a service to this point. And of course we Pentecostals believe that everything is preliminary to the preaching of the word of God. Genesis chapter 15 in your Bibles and I'll begin reading with verse 12. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram. And lo, and horror of great darkness fell upon him. And he said unto Abram, "Know of a shity, that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them 400 years." and also that nation whom they shall serve will I judge. And afterward, I kind of like that word afterward. It reminds me of what Joel said. And it shall come to pass afterward. I believe we're on the positive blessing side of the afterward.

God said, "I'll judge them, and afterward shall they come out with great substance, and thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace. Thou shalt bare be buried in a good old age." Verse 16, but in the fourth generation they shall come hither again, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. Verse 16 says, "But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again." I want to preach what I feel the Lord has impressed upon my heart for this meeting tonight. The promise to Abraham that afterwards they will come back. I want to preach tonight on the subject it's time for a comeback. And I believe that's what's happening in the Holy Ghost. The Apostolic Pentecostal Church is having a spiritual comeback. And if you want to be a part of it, shout yes. God bless you. You may be seated. Let's worship the Lord with the word of God.

Abraham was favored by Almighty God to view panoramically the destiny of his heritage. He was shown by God the darkness, the down settings, and the devastation that would come. But God didn't cut his vision short. He also showed him that there would be a recovery, there would be a return, and there would be a restoration. The Lord pinpointed to Abraham when it would happen. He said it will be in the fourth generation. Exodus chapter 6 points to us clearly the fulfillment of what God had promised to Abraham. When the Bible said there was Levi, Kohath, Amran, and Moses, the fourth generation, and Moses represented the comeback generation. God said, "There's going to be some dark days now. There's going to be some low spots. It's not all going to be ice cream in the shade. There's going to be some low times, but Abraham, I'm going to promise you that after 400 years, I will bring them back. Their captives will be crushed. Their bondage will be broken. Their servitude will surrender to sweet liberty. The '9s have been labeled the decade of recovery. We are in the time of a na national recovery. What's happening in the nation is also happening in the spirit and in the church. I'm preaching to you tonight that there is right now happening a spiritual comeback. There is a spiritual comeback happening. We are living in the time of a comeback. There was a man who forever etched his name and carved his name. In the annals of sports history, the man's name is Frank Wright. I read this in the newspaper and was so excited to be moved and motivated by his story. Frank Wright is a quarterback, a football player.

When he was in college, he established a record that's never been broken. And that record was the ability to bring his team back from the largest deficit ever to victory. He did that in college and then he turned around in the pros and did the same thing. The score was like 36 to nothing at halftime against him. But Frank Wright was able to come into the game in the second half and bring his team from 36 to nothing to a victory of just a few points. There is something about his nature that would never ever give up to this man. It there never is a time to quit. There never was a time to say, "Well, let's pack it in. We'll try it another day. There might be a better situation. This one's too far gone. It's too near over. We'll never be able to correct it now." This man had an attitude that victory is just ahead and we're not about to give up. I've come to camp meeting tonight to pronounce I believe the Holy Ghost has given this church a spirit of comeback. As a matter of fact, we dedicate this camp meeting to a comeback spirit. You're not too far to come back. It's not too late to come back. We're not about to give up on anybody. Let's clap our hands to the Lord right now. As a matter of fact, if you've gone away, it's time to come back. If you've led up, it's time to tighten up. If you've backed down, it's time to get up. If you've slacked off, it's time to step up. If you sat down, it's time to stand up. If you cooled off, it's time to fire up. If you've lost it, let's find it. It's time to have a comeback. It's time to come back to apostolic prayer. It's time to come back to apostolic preaching. It's time to come back to apostolic praising. It's time to come back to apostolic believing. It's time to come back to apostolic living. It's time to come back to apostolic holiness. It's time to come back to apostolic righteousness. My brothers and my sisters, this church is not going down. It's coming back. It's coming back.

David came over the hillside and all he could see was the spiraling smoke of devastation and the fires coming from Ziglag. Ziglag was a gift to David from the king. And the enemy had come in and burnt what the king had given to David. And David was circled by a bunch of people who when they saw the devastation themselves began to wonder, are we going to be able to do anything about this or not? Is it over for good? Have we finished? Are we going to end in dismal ruination? And the Bible said those that were with David began to even contemplate stoning him. David didn't have much of a choice. And neither does the church. The church has no choice. We either get it back or lose what we think we've got. And so David began to seek God and he said, "Shall I pursue?" And God answered him in one word and said, "Pursue." Which simply means don't sit there. Don't cry about it. Don't whine around. Get up and go for it. We didn't come to camp meeting to sit here. We didn't come to camp meeting to sit around. We've come to go for it. Anything you've lost, let's go for it.

Anything you've lost, let's get it back. And when they came over the hillside, David found all of the Amalocites. And the scripture said they were eating, they were drinking, and they were dancing because of the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines and out of the land of Judah. But when David came over that hill, he saw his enemies celebrating his loss. They were having a party celebrating what they had stolen from David. But when David came over the hill, basically what he said was, "Devil, the party's over." I've come to Louisiana to say, "Devil, the party is over. Everything that's ever been taken out of the church, it's coming back. Everything you've stolen from the children of God, we're getting it back. We've come to camp meeting to get our faith back. We've come to get our joy back. We've come to get our dreams back. We've come to get our love back. We've come to get our zeal back. Shout, "Devil, the party is over." Clap your hands of Jesus right now. I've come to get it back. Woo! My Lord have mercy.

There are folks here tonight while some of us are being challenged to get ahead. There are many that are greatly challenged just to get back what they had. Will our church ever have as many as we used to have? Will we ever see the revival we used to see? Some individuals are saying, "Will I ever have what I used to have?" I'm here to preach to you that God will not only give you that back. The Bible said David recovered all But not only did he recover all, he had some spoils of the battle, which mean he got some things he didn't have before he started fighting. We're not only going to get back what's ours, we're going to take some the devil thought was his. I say it's time to shout. We're having a comeback. It's time for a comeback. My Lord have mercy. My Lord have mercy. I got to put some faith in somebody. It ain't over. I don't even know what it means, but I know what the world says. The world says it ain't over till the fat lady sings. Now, that's what the world says. It ain't over till the fat lady sees. Well, I got a message for the devil. There ain't no fat lady singing here. Cuz with the God we serve, it ain't over when it's over. Martha and Mary said it's over. Jesus said it ain't over. I'm the resurrection and the life. And when it looks like it's over, it ain't over.

Your ministry ain't over. Your revival's not over. Your work for God is not over. Somebody needs to square their shoulders and say, "I'm going to have a comeback. I'm going to have a comeback. I'm going to have a comeback.

My lord. God said, "Abraham, they're going to go through some low places. They're going to go through some dark times. But don't worry, because I'm not going to leave them there. They're going to be strangers in that land. I promise you, before it's over, I'm going to bring them back right here. I'm going to bring them right back where I gave them the promise. They're going to stand right back in the same place where I made the promise. My brothers and my sisters, this apostolic church is not going down. It's not going to compromise. It's not going to become worldly. It's not going to become something that God don't want it to be. It's presently having a comeback. I need some pastor. I need some evangelist to get a fresh touch of zeal, to get a fresh glimpse of his original dream, to get a fresh look at that original vision. Now, we don't believe in compromising the word of God. And we don't believe in compromising our dream. If God told you you were going to pastor a church of a thousand, don't be satisfied with 500. If God told you you could have a hundred to get the Holy Ghost, don't be satisfied with 25. Somebody needs to come back to that original dream, that original vision that God gave you. It's time to get off the canvas of complacency, status quo, self-explanation, self-justification. We all have reasons why we're not doing what we know we ought to be doing. We can all give a thousand excuses why our churches are not any bigger and why we're not praying more folks through. But let's don't lay on the canvas of complacency with a whole list of excuses to justify ourselves. Let's just be like Abraham and say, "I am the lad may go yonder. We may have to climb that mountain. But I'm telling you, you stay here cuz we are coming back." Woo! I said, "We're going to come back. I'm going to shout again. I'm going to smile again. I'm going to run the aisles again. I'm going to talk in tongues again. I'm going to have victory again because it's time for a comeback.

Notice with me the word of the Lord. I want to preach to you a few minutes about the Hercules of the Hebrews.

It is my firm opinion that Samson was not a bodybuilder. It is my firm opinion that Samson didn't have bulging muscles. It is my firm opinion that instead of Arnold, Samson probably looked more like me, you know, just kind of normal. If that wasn't the case, they would not have had to ask him, "Where is your strength?" If it had bulging muscles, anybody would have known where his strength was. It was in the waties he was eating and the Gatorade he was drinking. But they had to ask him where is your strength? There is something very mystifying about this apostolic church because when the world comes around, we look kind of common and we look kind of normal. But when we flex, unusual things happen. When we start a few spiritual catacics, supernatural things begin to happen. And the world wants to know where is your strength? Where do you get that power to take liquor bottles out of people's hands? Where do you get that power to get them to flip their cigarettes? Where do you get that power to make them lay down the world? My brother, it's not in our padded pews. It's not in our thick carpet. It's not in our spiraling steeples. It's not in our stained glass windows. But our power is the same as Samson's power. It's a vow that we made to God. And it's time to come back to the vow. When you come back to the vow, you come back to the power. You may be seated. It's like the kite.

When I was a kid, I used to love to fly kites. And I couldn't tell you how many times I'd come to the end of my string and not realize it. And I've chased kite court across ball fields diving because what seemed to be holding my kite down is really what was holding my kite up. Because the minute I lost hold of the string, the kite would begin to plummet down. And the world doesn't understand. But what they think is holding us down. What they think is holding us down is really what's holding us up. And some of you better start diving because the strings come out of your hand and your C's coming down if you don't hold on to what's holding you up. Don't even tell me your church would be bigger if you had compromised.

Don't even try to tell me you would have a larger crowd if you had let down on your standards. Don't you know that's what's holding us up? Can I be honest here a moment with you in a little deeper way? I get tickled at some folks who say, "Well, you know, they feel challenged by large congregations that are not really holding truth. They feel intimidated." And some of them will say, "Well, I could have that kind of crowd, too, if I'd let down on this and let down on that and wouldn't demand this and quit that." That is nowhere near the truth. And the only way this revival is going to continue is if we come back to everything God's given us. Because what some of you think's holding us down is really holding us up.

I want you to notice the word of the Lord with me here. In Judges 16:7, Samson said, "Then shall I be weak and be as another man." Judges 16 and 11. Then shall I be weak and be as another man. Judges 16 and 17. And I shall become weak and be like any other man. I don't give Samson a lot of credit because he flirted and played and teased about things that you don't play with. Now, I believe in being positive and I believe in evangelism and I believe in revival and I believe in church growth, but I don't like to see standards and holiness debate to try to lift up revival. The thing that's going to bring the attention of God to us in the last days is a brand new comeback to our vow. Samson vowed to be different. And he said, "I know I'm different. I know I'm different." And Pentecostals, it's going to be a great day when we accept that difference. I said, "I don't have any trouble with the difference because it's the difference that makes the difference." Samson said, "There's some things if I get them out of my life, I'll be like anybody else. and we don't need to play with it and we don't need to tease about it. She said, "Tell us where it's at." He made up a bunch of false statements. dibbling dabbling when he shouldn't have been even fooling with her to start with. Coach Samson said, "I'm going to tell you right now, I am different. But there are some things about me that if you take them away from me, I'll be like anybody else." I want to tell this church tonight, there are some things in this church that we might could lay down, leave aside, brush off, pay little attention to, and they don't mean much. But there are some things that if we ever have them cut from us,

if we ever lay our heads in the lap of a world and let them shave our heads, we're going to shake ourselves and nothing's going to happen. Music doesn't produce this power. Talent doesn't produce this talent. Lovely buildings doesn't produce this town. It's a wholly separated people that have made a vow to God. That's what brings God's glory down.

Now, this is just in passing, but you told us in your opening remarks the other day that there's a whole lot of typology in that Old Testament. Can I just throw one out? I'll give you Thank you. If you lay your head Oh my lord. The devil ain't worried about your body if he can get your head. Before your body leaves the church, your head leaves the church. Before you become a backslider, you start thinking like a backslider. Before you become carnal, you start thinking like a carnal person. That's why the Bible said if they had have been mindful of this world, that went back. You know what the deep profound meaning of mindful means? It means having your mind full of the world. He laid his head in her lap and she severed the seven locks. The first thing the devil really wants to do to you, the seven locks will represent a couple things tonight, but the first thing they're going to represent is what the devil wants to take from you foremost and that is the seven churches of Asia Minor. He would like to sever your relationship with the church. There ain't nothing wrong with vacations. There ain't nothing wrong with time off and time out and coming apart and a little fishing and whatever else you may like to do. Golfhead, but I believe a great part of revival is coming back to loving church. If I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy, nothing ought to turn you on like Sunday night in your church. Nothing ought to crank you up like Sunday night in your local church. A hole in one shouldn't do it. A trophy buck or a trophy bass or whatever. Nothing ought to get you as excited as just being in the house of God. It's time to come back to loving church. She say she shaved the seven locks. Samson compromise. If you play around and you deal with that one, you're not careful, you'll start giving away the things that does count. We can get so rational, so logical and so sensible that we can justify anything.

I quickly wrote this afternoon, and I have never mentioned this in a sermon that I know of in my life, but I failed to say it tonight. There is nobody that just quickly, instantly, knowingly, willingly compromised. Just poof compromise. But there are some very subtle sources that lend themselves to a compromised position. One of them is money. When you start tiptoeing through the tulips, being afraid of what to preach because it might affect the treasury, you're not about to compromise. You have. [applause and cheering] If it's a sin for a popper, it's a sin for a millionaire. And if it's a sin for a kid that rides a bus, it's a sin for the man that rides in the limousine. Our pull pits need to become unfettered where we preach the word of God without respect to finances. And I'm going to tell you something from personal experience. Anytime I've ever seen anybody leave because I preached against sin. God has sent me somebody that like preaching. And I don't preach for them. I preach to them. And I don't weigh their billfold before I say it. My brothers and my sisters, we don't work for church boards and we don't work for church deacons and we don't work for church elders. He called us. He anointed us. He appointed us and he'll take care of us. We need to come back to apostolic preaching. Money. The second thing is family. If money won't make you compromise, a carnal wife sure can. And rebellious kids can. And if it's a sin for my saints kids, it's a sin for my kids. They don't need to be a double standard. It doesn't matter who it is. If you're not going to live right, walk right, talk right, then you shouldn't be on the organ in the choir doing anything until you get right with God. No matter what your last name is or who your daddy is or who your uncle is, I'm telling you, family can lead you toward compromise. When my daughter was just a little bitty girl, we used to When we go to church, we had two vehicles. My mother-in-law rode with my wife. Christy always rode with me. And I took her to school every morning. I was in town. I picked her up when she got out of school. That was our time together. We had some good talks. One day we were riding down the road, Brother Magnet, and Christy says, "When I get big, I'm going to do such and such. Y'all not ready to hear what that was. So I ain't going to tell you. When I get big is what I'm going to do. And since she was a little bit of girl, she's always dreamed of playing the piano and playing the organ and singing. And she said, "When I get big, that's what I'm going to do. Daddy, I just want to tell you." And something inside of me said, "This is a test."

I don't bit more believe that she meant what she was saying than nothing cuz she's never done it. And she's married and grown. It was a test. She won't know whether pop meant what he said or not because it was a standard in our church that you can't do that. Sing in the choir, play them instruments. testing me. She said, "When I get big, this is what I'm going to do." I didn't look at her. I drive that little pickup down the road. And I said, "That's fine, baby. That's the way you feel. That's what you want to do. That's great." But I said, "Let daddy tell you you won't play the piano in my church." I didn't look at her. I said, "That's fine, honey. You can do what you want to do." I said, "But you won't play the organ in our church." She's never offered to do that. I don't think she's ever thought of it since. She just wanted to know, "Will you let me do what you won't let anybody else do?" Cuz if you will, it's not a conviction. It's an opinion. But when you got a conviction, it don't matter if it's your wife, your mama, your daddy, or your brother, or your sister, or your son, or your daughter, you're going to stand I must hurry quickly. The next area is that lends itself to compromise is unprecedented success. If you pastor a church and you've never had a revival and you've never had new converts to come in and all of a sudden God sends you a mighty move and you pray a lot of people through, then all of a sudden you are strongly tested as to what you believe or whether you don't believe it. I'm not talking about in a month. I'm not talking about six months. I'm not even talking about in a year. But it's going to have to be forever settled. If you're born into this family, sooner or later there's some things you're going to come to. And there have been some men who won some souls, but the souls won them. And instead of changing the the congregation, the congregation changed them. Thank God for the influx of new souls.

But my brothers and my sisters, after a little while, they're going to start looking, acting, walking, talking, dressing, and living like apostolic Pentecostals. And only God knows how long that is. But if you're not careful, you'll love your revival so much it'll lock your lips. My Lord, how'd I get here? But if they can't take apostolic preaching, I doubt they got the apostolic experience because Holy Ghost preaching is going to agree with the Holy Ghost baptism. And if you got the Holy Spirit in you, holy preaching's going to set you on fire, not make you mad. It's time for a comeback. It's time for a comeback.

Let me quickly hurry through seven locks that I think the devil would like to shave from this church. If we lay our heads in his lap, there are seven things he'd like to cut off of us. Number one is the new birth message. He'd like to shave that right out of this church. Here a while back, I had a singing group in our church. Right in the middle of the service, this one individual with that group stood up and said, "Now, there's only one thing we're asking y'all to do tonight." He said, "If anybody gets saved, don't leave here without telling somebody." Now, that was in our church, our platform. If anybody gets saved, we just ask you to do one thing. Don't leave here without telling somebody. I just sat there went, "What a mighty God we serve." Wait till Wednesday night Bible study. I didn't say nothing. The meeting closed. They left Wednesday night. Pastor, sing a few courses. Love God. Church, I'd like to make an announcement tonight. It was recently said in our pullpit that don't leave here if you get saved without telling somebody. I said, "Let me remind you of something. At Raleigh's first UPC, you don't have to tell anybody cuz number one, somebody's going to hear you talk in tongues, and number two, your head's going to be wet. Don't come here telling me don't get saved without telling somebody. The Bible said we're born of water and spirit and God ain't gone into the dry cleaning business. I still believe Acts 2:38. It's time to come back to preaching repentance. Water baptism in Jesus name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. The devil would like to shave that. The second thing he'd like to cut off would be the oneness message. If there ever was a day we needed to preach one God is now. There's two reasons why folks that are not apostolic Pentecostal can't get their people to really live for God. Two reasons. The first reason is they don't know him. I mean even Pharaoh said to Moses, "Who is the Lord? Amen. That I should obey him. He said, "If you tell me who he was, I might obey him." You can't obey who you don't know. You won't obey who you don't know. If you think one God loved us and sent Junior to do his dirty work, you're never going to be a committed Pentecostal Christian.

But when you know the one that loved you is the one that bought you and is the one that lives in you, it's easy to pay your tithes. It's easy to live a separated life. He said, "Who is the Lord? I'm fudging a little bit tonight. Preaching a little longer." All right. The second reason is somebody said, "I don't think you got to have the Holy Ghost." I'm going to tell you something. This isn't a debate. This is a fact. Fast your seat belts. I'm going to hit you kind of hard here. But without the Holy Ghost, you can't really love him because Romans 5 and5 says, "The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. When you get the Holy Ghost, you get a baptism of love. Love for the man of God. Love for the word of God. Love for the church of God. The Holy Ghost is more than a lap around the building. It's a baptism of love. You can't love him like you need to love him until you get the Holy Ghost. The third thing the devil would like to cut from this church is holiness. It's 4th of July. We're c celebrating our constitution. Our nation needs to come back to its foundational roots. Our church needs to come back to its foundational roots. And it's one thing to say holiness, but it's something else to give folks a clue of what you're talking about. I still believe it's a sin for a woman to cut her hair. I still believe it's a sin for a woman to wear makeup. I still believe it's a sin for a woman to dress like a man. I still believe it's a sin for a man to dress like a woman. I don't believe you need an ungodly television in your home with the putrification of Hollywood in it. I don't believe Christians ought to be watching nasty vulgar videos in their home. Now, can somebody stand up and shout with me, "It's time for a comeback." The best thing we can give our nation is a Holy Ghost. Holy, separated, righteous, apostolic church. Come on, let's come back to it. If you've slipped away from it, let's get back to it. If you've let up on it, let's tighten up on it. preach. Preacher, preach, preacher. Preach, preacher. Tell me we don't need to look like movie stars. Tell me we don't need to dress like movie stars. Tell me we don't need to sing like movie stars. Tell me we need to be Holy Ghost sanctified. Tell me we need to live holy and pure and clean. And we don't need to be decked out like a jewelry store. Come on. On the 4th of July, let's let our world know we're coming back. We're not giving it up. We're not selling it out. We're not compromising.

You may be seated.

I didn't tell you what the fourth thing was that leans toward compromise. And right now is a good time for me to tell you. Can you get a hint? The Bible said Delilah wore Samson down constantly asking. She pressed him daily. You know what she did? She stayed after him until he got tired. There ain't nothing that will make you compromise like just getting tired. Just flat getting tired. Somebody told me there's a lot of preachers going out of the ministries these days. They're going into the undertaker business. Somebody asked one guy why he went out went out of the preaching business and went into the undertaker business. He said, "Well, when I was a preacher, I straightened this family out. Two months later, they were messed up again." He said, "I got this guy off drugs. Six months later, he's back on it again." He said, "I saved this teenager and a year later he quit." He said, "I can't keep them straight. That's why I got out of the ministry." He said, "But in the undertaker business, when I straighten them out, they stay straightened out." Come on, pastors. We can't get so tired that we don't tell it anymore. You say, "I'm tired of telling it." Then get out of the ministry. God called you to keep telling it. You got to keep on preaching it. You can't get tired of telling them. God don't like that. God doesn't want that. God's tired of that. You're going to have to straighten that up. That's what the call of God is. Thank you. Somebody said, "Well, I'm just tired of telling them." You know what might happen? And I think you've already proven the point tonight, but let's prove it just a little bit more in case there are some preachers here that are tired of telling it. Let's have a vote. We like to do things by vote. There may be some preachers that are tired of telling it. So, I think we ought to send them a message tonight. How many saints are tired of hearing it? I said, how many saints are tired of hearing it? How many saints would like to hear some preaching? My brother, if you're not preaching it, it's not their fault. If you're not preaching it, it's not their fault. Would some saints let some men know? If you'll preach it, I'll live it. If you'll preach it, I'll shout to it. If you'll preach it, I'll back you up. If you'll preach it, I'll respond to it. There needs to be a cry from our pullpit and from our pew. Let's go back to preaching. You proved your point. That means I can go on. Somebody's going to have to let this generation know we don't despise holiness. We're not tired of living separated. We're not ready to sell out to the world. We love what we are. We love the way we are. Everybody stand up just a minute and lift your hands. And I want you to pray. Lord, give me a comeback.

Do I love preaching love and the preacher can't preach it too hard. And he can't offend me. Cuz when he's preaching, he's pouring fire on my soul. on my soul. And God is going to give us power if we'll come back to our vow. Let's everybody stand. Another lock he'd like to cut off is miracle faith. Another lock is worship, which I'll talk more about in another message. Another one is prayer. And the seventh one is apostolic commitment, the seven locks, prayer and apostolic commitment. But there is a beautiful verse in Judges the 16th chapter and that is verse 22. When Samson compromised, he became blind. He became bound and he started going round and round. And when you compromise, you're going to quit seeing some things. and you're going to become bound and the rest of your ministry will be going round and round. But worse than that, compromisers grind meal to make bread to feed the enemies of God. gave all the Philistines something to laugh about. There's one of their mighty men. That's one of them used to lay us out. Now he's feeding us so we can fight God. call. I'd rather be dead than do that. I'd rather be dead than my life to be bred to feed God's enemies. But the Bible says in Judges 16 and 22, and I love this, while they were mocking him, while they were celebrating their victory over him, while they were rejoicing over him, they were overlooking something. Because the Bible said in verse 22 of Judges 16, "How be it, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven." You know what that means? Samson was having a comeback. something began to come back. Oh, somehow the devil has missed something in this apostolic church. Because while he's been rejoicing, he's overlooked the fact that all the time something was growing. Something was growing. Don't let anybody tell you the church is in a less dedicated, consecrated holiness stand today than it's ever been. While you're you haven't been looking, there's some saints that have been growing and some young preachers that have been growing. And the Bible said his finale was greater than his entirety.

In his death, he killed more than his whole life. I believe by the time all the reports come in on Pentecost Sunday, we will have seen brother Hudsbouth four times the people received the Holy Ghost on Pentecost Sunday in 1995 as did on the day of Pentecost because something has been growing in The fourth generation, the time of the comeback.

Would you close your eyes and bow your heads? I feel the Holy Ghost right now. My Lord, breathe on us one more time. Samson said, "Oh Lord, hear me. just once more and he had to come back and the Holy Ghost is ministering to us right now. It's time for a comeback. If you've let some things slip, let's get a fresh grip tonight. If you've been pushed back off of some things that you really know you need to stand for, let's step up tonight. And if you're a backslider and you've gone away from God, it's time to come back. Every head is bowed, every eyes closed, and the Holy Ghost is witnessing right now to the soul, to the heart. It's time for a comeback. I'm preaching to somebody right now who's been long removed from this apostolic Pentecostal church, but your heart has been crying to come back. You felt like it was impossible. You felt like there was no way. I'm telling you, you can come back tonight. While every head is bowed and every eyes closed, where are you in this audience? Would you slip your hand up right now? God bless you, sir. God bless you. You can have a comeback tonight. While they sing right now, push this way, church. While I pull, if you need a comeback, make your way to this front right now. If you're tired of laying on the canvas and you want to get back to your feet, make your way to the front right now. If you need the Holy Ghost, come on right now. Take me back. Take me back, dear, Lord. It's time for a comeback. Make your way to the Lord. Make your way to the altar right now. Make your way to the front right now. Back folks are coming back where I pastor preacher. If you've let some things slip and you want to get it back, make your way to the front right now. I want to get my dream back. I want to get my vision back. I want to get my burden back.

I want to get my zeal back. I want to get my motivation back. I want my original burden back. Let's everybody pray right now. Lift your hands. Take me back. Take me back. Take me back. Take me back. Take me back. Please take me back. Oh yes. It's time for a comeback. That's it. Pray for somebody. Pray for somebody. Thank you, Lord. Oh, I love you, Jesus. Oh, take me back. Take me back. I want you to take me back. and special. Come on back. Let's come back. Would you take me back? Oh yes.
