Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Summary

  • He is the guest preacher for a church-merge celebration weekend, and he opens by giving honor to Bishop Charles Harvey and to senior pastor Patrick Harvey, and by marveling at the unity of the day of Pentecost: they were in one place and one accord before the Holy Ghost had even come, and when Peter stood up to preach, the eleven stood up with him — the rest of the book of Acts, he says, can be the repercussions of a unified church, and there is nothing beyond such a church's reach except what is beyond the will of God. After honoring the ministers present, he stands for the reading of Luke 8:22-25 — Jesus asleep in the boat, the storm, the terrified disciples, and the question, "where is your faith?" — and announces his subject: the fallacy of misplaced faith.
  • His reading of the text is that Jesus was not charging the disciples with lost faith, or even with the absence of faith. Their faith was quite obvious: they believed, without an ounce of doubt, in the strength of the storm, the wrath of the wind, and the weight of the waves to destroy them. The church's calamity today is rooted in the same fallacy — more faith in the disaster than the master, in sickness than in wellness, in the enemy to hinder than in God to deliver, in the negative than in the positive. Faith has to be relocated: out of the storm and into the promise of God, the presence of God, and the power of God. When he says "let us go over," it is impossible to go under, and it is impossible for the ship to sink when the Savior is on board.
  • What got Peter out of jail in Acts 12, he argues, was neither the prayer group's prayer nor Peter's faith — Peter thought he saw a vision — but the prophesied power of the word of Jesus: because Peter did not live by the sword, he could not die by it, and Herod could sharpen his sword all night long without taking Peter's life. Jacob believed the lie about Joseph's coat at once, yet nearly had a heart attack when told the truth that Joseph was alive; Hezekiah (2 Kings 20) needed no sign to believe he would die but required a sign to believe he would live. Isaiah 53:1 asks who has believed the report — you are going to believe somebody — and Psalm 20:7 gives the answer: some trust in chariots and some in horses, but "as for us, we're going to remember the name of the Lord."
  • He tells, as his brother Donnie told it, the story of Tom Barnes, who feared that wearing glasses would destroy his healing ministry, until the Lord told him: just tell them the one that does the healing doesn't wear glasses. And he closes with David and Goliath: all Israel's faith was in Goliath's sword, his stature, and his battle record — Goliath was too big to hit; David's faith was in the promise of God, "no man shall be able to stand against you" — Goliath was too big to miss. Goliath came with three weapons; David came with one, in the name of the Lord, and one is greater than the devil's three; the devils themselves believe there is only one God, and shudder. The sermon ends in exhortation over the closing music: put your faith in God — in his word, his promise, his power, and his presence.

and everybody said praise the Lord if you'll remain standing for the reading of the word of the lord I give honor tonight to Bishop Charles Harvey and I give honor to senior pastor brother Patrick Harvey I think that's absolutely remarkable don't you praise God it's thrilling to see them yoke together hands and hearts burden vision passion joining together for the great move of God you know the Bible is an endless resource of inspiration revelation so much that we can never ascertain it all but I appreciate when God speaks to us a little by little the thing that really amazes me about the day of Pentecost that really challenges the New Testament church is the fact brother Harvey I just noticed here recently that they were in one place and one Accord without the Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost had not even yet come and they were in one place and one Accord then God filled them with the Holy Ghost and another evident of evidence of unity was the fact that when Peter stood up to preach the eleven stood up with him and the rest of the book of Acts can be the repercussions of a unified church and there's absolutely nothing that is beyond the reach of a unified church but that which is beyond the will of God so great anticipation is before us all when it bothered me if I didn't preach tonight I agree with brother Dunnigan we were celebrating and there's a spirit of rejoicing and dancing I feel that's an apostolic confirmation that the will of God has been done that's God saying I like it I like it and when God likes us that's me that means we have the divine favor of God and I'm thrilled at the favor of God that is upon this place and I know that outstanding things are at our fingertips and so the message I preached tonight will kind of help us posture mentally and spiritually so that we can reach everything that God has for us because there's even miracles in this room right now and God would like to initiate your ministry by working miracles signs and wonders confirming his will and I believe that is somebody ready for a miracle tonight I give honor to the seasoned ministers that are here to celebrate with you and brother Dunnigan who's done a fabulous job as master of ceremonies give him a hand not everybody can be an effective master of ceremonies without preaching and eating a marvelous job to enlarge our friendship base and to enlarge our fellowship to all the ministers that are here tonight god bless you to be here with the Holy Trinity and if you're a guest here tonight I don't mean to offend anybody but there is a Trinity in

this room and that Trinity of course is brother van Lew brother Chris and brother Patrick Harvie that's the dynamic trio right there the Trinity and I don't know what we're gonna do with you brother guess we'll make it a quartet brother Lee for years I thought there was just three now believe there may be four these are exceptional young men and the United Pentecostal church covets them and jealous for them that the blessing of the Lord would be upon them and of course to be able to be in church of my friend brother Weill court yeah brother wheel corner be happy love him Luke chapter 8 verse 22 now it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a ship with his disciples and he said unto them let us go over unto the other side of the lake I believe it may be the King James translation of that verse that says let us cross over I've always enjoyed words how many know there's some things in your life the only way over is to cross over he said let us cross over sometimes the only way we can get over some things is the power of the cross in our lives let us go over unto the other side of the lake and they launched forth but as they sailed he fell asleep and there came down a storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were in jeopardy and they came to him and awoke him saying master master we Parrish not a doubt in their minds we perish then he arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water and they ceased and there was a calm and he said unto them where is your faith and they being afraid wondered saying one to another what manner of man is this for he commandeth even the winds and water and they obey Him I want to give you a little fresh enlightenment that came to me on this passage of scripture that I had not known or looked at just in this perception until recently verse 25 of Luke 8 jesus said to his disciples and I think he's saying the same thing to the Apostolic Church tonight where is your faith where is your faith and so I will preach to all of us here tonight on the subject the fallacy of misplaced faith the fallacy of misplaced faith it doesn't matter how much of God is in this room if somebody doesn't have faith to connect and the Bible even said in one place that the word preached it and profit them because it was not mixed with faith but if you will add your faith to the God that's in this room and to the word that's in this room you can leave here tonight with a miracle in your life clap your hands that go ahead and let God know you're going to receive it praise God turn around somebody to say this man may be going to preach my answer tonight and you may be seated with their direction and destiny determined by the desire of their master because he said let us go to the other side and when we have that kind of mandate from the master in our lives then we need not fear and we need not to second-guess to show you the power of his prophesied word when Peter stepped out of that boat and walked on the water we all know that no man can walk on water the old testament said of God Jehovah who treadeth upon the waters alone that God was the only one that could walk on water then what did Peter

walk on Peter walked on what you and I can walk on he walked on the word of the Lord because Jesus said come and that one word turned the water into a sidewalk and all you need is the one prophesied word from God that you act upon and the miracle is released in your life so the disciples although this was destined of God they encountered severe negative circumstances that appear contradictory and calamitous Jesus appears unconcerned and undisturbed about the storm with its wind its waves and its water now filling the disciples boat the thoughts of death and disaster dominate their minds and drive them to frantic desperation so in terror and in trauma they turn to the sleeping Savior and the Bible says they awoke him they want to know that he is aware they want know that he is alert they want to know that he's involved in their apparent emergency so they needed to awaken him so Jesus felt the need to awaken them they awoke him and now he must awake them like a slap to the cheek of their faces to awake the mentally sleeping not thinking disciples Jesus rocked and shocked them with this question it doesn't matter what's going on here what really matters is where is your faith I want to preach to you tonight Church it doesn't matter what's happening in our world this is the victory that overcometh the world even our faith what God wants to do tonight is rebaptised with a solid biblical faith that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world and so he just slaps their faces shakes them as though he's trying to wake them out of some type of spiritual coma I believe that God has brought us together tonight after our merge of this beautiful church into a unified body of Christ last night two raucous and shocked us as apostolic by awakened us from our spiritual stupor we're the same like question where is your faith when our faith is properly relocated it will be the answer to long prayed prayers miracles will happen needs to be met and heaven will be open and the bountiful blessings of God will take place in the church clap your hands if you need any of the above if you are ready for any of the above are you ready for miracles signs and wonders revival a glory and power we're here so I'm thoroughly convinced that God desires to awaken us to the source of our security survival and spiritual success for years as I often do I misunderstood our text brother Harvey I thought I knew what the Lord was trying to do here but recently it's just like he was saying to me you missed it a million miles I'm gonna show you what I was trying to get them to understand I was so incorrect as I assumed that Jesus was challenging disciples to recover their evident lost faith but I recently became convinced and convicted that was not the case at all he was not addressing lost faith or even the absence of faith but in reality the fallacy of misplaced faith that they had faith was quite obvious they they screamed that we most positively are going to perish they really believed it was over we are finished we are done there was not an ounce of doubt that they were not going to go under those waves and they would never ever make it

to the shore you see they had faith in the strength of the storm the wrath of the wind and the weight of the waves to destroy them they were convinced quite positive without doubt that they were undeniably done that they would not be saved but they would sink their faith was in the power of the storm the presumption of spiritual calamity and casualty in the church today is rooted in the fallacy of misplaced faith we have more faith in the disaster than the master we have more faith in the wrath of the wind that his written word we have more faith in the storm to destroy than the Savior's power to say we have more faith in defeat than in victory we have more faith in sickness than in wellness we have more faith in the enemy to hinder that God to deliver we have more faith in our inability than God's divine what our preaching is our faith is in the role play our faith is in the wrong place we have faith we can't says we can we have faith we will not when God says we will we have faith we have will we will not have when God says we will have I'm telling this church right now we need to relocate our faith and put it where it really belongs it belongs and the promise of God it belongs in the presence of God it belongs in the power of God get your faith out of the storm and get it in the word get it in the presence of God in the power put your faith in what you won't not in what you don't won't because I got a word for you when he says let's go over it is impossible to go under I said when he says we're going over it is impossible for us to go under I wish somebody would rise in your spirit with me tonight and understand this church is going to be blessed and there ain't a thing the devil can do about it I wish somebody would understand this church is going to have revival and Hale can't stop it I wish somebody would understand this church is going to feel the mighty power of God and nothing can hinder at turnaround somebody say where is your faith where is your faith I strongly suggest we acknowledge it is impossible for the ship to sink when the Savior is on board the city right buddy really believe Jesus is on board if Jesus is on board it is impossible for it to go down absolutely impossible I wish somebody would just shout some things can't happen things can't happen anybody here you made me see anybody here ever had to be able to tell you he was going to kill you he can't kill us if he could we'd all be dead he can't stop the church he hasn't since the day of Pentecost and he won't until the rapture if he could he would have already done it's time for us to get our faith in the Word of God in the power of God in the presence of God I have taken Tony ever there's a preaching here tonight that's because there's some anointing here that's because this man is anointed of God there's an anointing on him we say forever that the yoke is broken because of the anointing but there's another verse in the Bible says the yoke is destroyed cause of the anointing there's a difference in breaking and destroy if you break it it can be revealed if you're destroyed it's done I'm saying there's going to be an anointing on this man that's going to destroy stuff that the devil can't ever repair that the

devil can't ever reveal that sin can't ever bring back it's done forever I wish somebody shouted stud forever let me show this quickly I got a hurry listen it wasn't the prayers of the prayer group in acts 12 that got Peter out of jail I hate to contradict you I'm gonna show you how a Bible fight Peter was in jail but it wasn't the prayer they got him out the reason I know it wasn't prayer that got him out because prayer doesn't work if there's not faith and when Peter was at the door haven't been delivered by the angel of God and Rhoda thank God for Rhoda who could recognize the voice of a miracle the problem with that sister's miracles knocking at our door but you're not going to door right there there's miracles knocking on our door but we're so busy having church we're so busy praying we're so busy doing our Pentecostal tradition we don't even recognize the miracle is that the door trying to come in somebody's gotta stop praying somebody's got to stop dancing and open the door come out Church the answers here let's let in the end let's let it I noticed as I said it wasn't their prayer there's something greater than prayer it wasn't Peters faith because when he got outside the wind started hitting him the Bible said he thought he saw a vision he thought he was dreaming or something the breeze started hitting my Lord I'm outside to jail he thought he saw a vision so it wasn't his faith so if it wasn't prayer they got him out and it wasn't faith that got him out what got him out here's what got him out this is what got him out see there's something greater than your prayer there's something greater than my faith and that's when I don't pray and when I don't have faith this is still true there are too many Pentecostals that predicate their experience with God on their prayer life on their faith in God your prayer life is up and down your faith is handing out but the Word of God abides forever so you say how do you come to that point simply like this it wasn't prayer it wasn't faith what was it it was the prophesied power of the word of Jesus Christ remember when the 800 soldiers came to take Jesus Peter whipped his sword out and cut the ear off of one man started defending the Lord and Peter better be glad he was he wasn't as good a marksman maybe as he should have been I think he went for the neck but he got the ear and ain't Jesus somebody man there's a preacher up in here I might have to hurry cuz I'm just gonna go hey Jesus picked up the ear and put it back on you know why there was going to be a troop of investigating Roman soldiers that were coming and they were gonna say we heard that somebody got their ear cut off where is he and he started looking at ears now there's two there two here two here must been a false report I heard somebody got their ear cut off Jesus took care of the evidence and there was no evidence of Simon Peters mistake now what could preach a sermon on that we'll let that go but this what I want to preach about Jesus said put up your sword because if you live by that you will die but because he did not live by that Herod could sharpen his sword all night long but it would never take Simon Peters life because Jesus said you can't die by it if you don't live by it Jesus saw acts 12 coming and said I'm gonna stop you from being killed by Herod sword because you didn't live by it he's not gonna kill you there's no way I say there's some things just can't happen some things just cannot happen it's determined by the Word of God the problem with the church tonight is not this no faith is not the problem everybody say no faith is not the problem the absence of faith is not the problem the problem is misplaced

faith we have more faith in the devil to destroy than the Savior to save we have more faith in the disease to kill than the heal to heal we have more faith in the lives of the devil and the truth of the Spirit we have more faith in the negative than we do the positive Jacob could not believe Joseph was alive even though liars were now telling the truth when they lied to him and said is this his coat he said yeah he said I'll go to my grave morning that was a lie but when they come back and said Joseph is yet alive and he is ruling and reigning Nietzsche said I can't believe that he almost had a heart attack we are so much more easier to believe the negative than we are the positive in second Kings chapter 20 Hezekiah received the word of the Lord and the Bible said that the prophet came to him and said you're going to die and not live and when the prophet turned around and walked out he got to the middle court now here's what Hezekiah did the Bible said he you know he pulled his feet up into the bed he turned his face to the wall and got ready to leave here it's over but when the prophet got to the middle court God spoke to me and said go back and tell him I've changed my mind I'm gonna heal him on the third day the same prophet that told him he was going to die came right back and said wait a minute God changed his mind and God said you're not gonna die he's heard your prayer and he's gonna add 15 years to your life and Hezekiah said show me a sign he did not need a sign to believe he would die but he required a sign to believe that he would leave Isaiah 53 and 1 the Bible said who hath believed our report woo you're going to believe somebody you're either gonna be a believer lying devil are you gonna believe a God who is truth you're either gonna believe in the power of the blood or the power of sin you're gonna believe in the power of sickness or the power of the stripes you're either gonna believe in the lies of this world or a God who is truth and in him there is no lie I'm trying to get somebody off of that seat tonight and declare my faith is in him in Christ alone we have more faith in what we see than what he said Psalms 20 verse 7 some trust in chariots some trust in horse horses but as for us we're going to remember the name of the Lord I want to how many folks in this room have seen near disaster or approaching dilemma or death seeming intimate and all of a sudden you remember the name that looks so imminent it looks so sure it looks so positive but all you had time for was Jesus and the whole environment was changed I'm preaching to folks tonight who's been hit by the spra of the water negativism has thrown you down in the ship of the Zion that you live in and doubt and disturbance it's so controlled your mind that you have put your faith in every negative thing but God is slap in your face tonight to awaken you to realize you got faith but it's in the wrong place get your faith back and put it in the promise of God put it in the power of God put it in the presence of God

I feel more than an anointing to preach I feel the spirit of prophecy I feel a prophesied word here you don't need faith in your past failures you need faith in your present promise I don't care what has not happened I'm concerned about what's about to happen I'm not worried about how many times I've failed I'm celebrating we're about to succeed we're about to break through if somebody will put your faith in that he said I'll make the barren woman the joyful keeper of a house and the lame will leap for joy and the crooked will be made straight well and the plan will be made to see and the lame will walk when the anointing of God comes and your faith is in the power of God miracles will happen reach over touch somebody say put your faith in the right place you have faith it's just in the wrong place when the devil comes to you and says to you brother Patrick Harvie you can't blow him away by saying you're right but he can I can't do this but he can do this I'm not good enough but he's good enough I'm not holy enough but he's holy enough you may be seen I preach this another minute I'm soon to be through it's a prophesied word tonight the future of this church will depend on where you put your faith I heard this story a few years ago and my brother Donnie and his really blessed me for the corny u-men of season you will remember the name of Tom Barnes brother Barnes is a mighty man of faith and a man of great healing God used him mightily well his brother Barnes age says the course of life is his I started to deal and the doctor said you need glasses and brother Barnes said to himself I can't wear glasses if I put glasses on it's going to destroy my healing ministry he said he said because people are gonna look at me and say if you're such a man of God and God's using you so mildly where's your faith that you would not have to have glasses if you wear glasses you're going to destroy faith that thing was a burden to him and the devil was beating him and in prayer one day he was taking it before the Lord and the Lord said to him don't worry about it just tell him the one that does the healing the one that does the healing doesn't wear glasses the one that does the healing is more than just the man the one that does the healing is not just flesh but the one that does the healing is he everliving omnipotent mighty God of glory and that's where your faith must be when Goliath stepped out on that

battlefield to challenge all of Israel all of Israel except for one shepherd boy would not and could not stand against Goliath because when they heard his thunderous voice they saw his stature the size of his sword his battle record that he was a man of war from his youth when Israel looked at him every one of them said you know what he says he's gonna feed our carcasses to the fowl of the air and I believed him every one of them said you see I be his I believe he can do it my faith is in his sword my faith is in his stature my faith is in his battle record I don't think we have a chance this is just a little add-on now get to my point in a minute Israel said Goliath was too big to hit David said Goliath is too big to miss and David stepped out of the shadows and said who is this heathen he was very descriptive I will not describe him he he he let him hold it he reminded him of who he was and what he was telling them is you're not one of us we have the Covenant you don't have the Covenant and who do you outside of Israel's covenant think you are that can that you could stand against the Covenant of God and David remembered one word from God that God gave them when they came out of Egypt one phrase and David hung his life on it no man shall be able to stand against you that's what God told Israel when they came out God said no man shall be able to stand against you and David said to himself the last time I looked at that bully he's just a man now he might be a big man but it's just a man and God said no man shall be able to stand against you Israel you can believe in Goliath but I'm gonna believe in God you can believe in that man but I'm gonna believe in the promise of God I'm gonna believe my faith is not in Goliath's ability my faith is in the promise of God that nobody's going to stand against this church nobody's gonna stop this church nobody's going to destroy this shirt stand up and clap your hands and shout god is great Terrence I'm gonna say I don't care what you're going through don't you know God's greater than that I don't care what your problem is God's greater than that I don't care what your circumstance is God's greater than that I don't care what's happening in your life God's greater than that I don't care how it looks that's greater than that I don't care what the devil said God's greater than that I don't care what my flesh says God's greater than that come on somebody tell them what your problem is and after you tell them I won't that person tell you God's greater than that

God's greater than what the doctor said count them with me right now on our clothes I will name three weapons of soul I mean of Goliath when I name them you count over here we go David said you come to me with a sword you come to me with a spear you come to me with a shield I come to you and he said you come to me with three I come to you with one I come to you in the name of the Lord you come against me with three I come against you with one and I 1 is greater than the devil's 3 the theory of the Trinity is the greatest flattery to the devil the world has ever known the devil boasts that denominationalism says it takes a father a son and the Holy Ghost three against one that makes the devil feel good then it takes three gods to wit one devil but you know what the truth is the devil's believe there is only one God and one verse says they shudder with terror I want you to know you're one God is able to handle whatever comes against your life I will jump out of the night and tell god what you won't and say my faith is in you my faith is in you my faith is in you my hope is in you my trust is in you my confidence is in you my faith is not in my problem my faith is not in my weakness my faith is not in my sickness my faith is in God reach over touch somebody say put your faith in God put your faith in God put your faith in God put your faith in God's Word put your faith in God's promise put your faith in God's power put your faith in God's presence to many alcoholics have misplaced faith
