if you feel the presence of the lord in this place tonight could you just worship him for a moment come on in your own words god we bless your name tonight god we exalt your name tonight in jesus name jesus name i feel the presence of the lord in this place tonight amen whether you realize it or not that's what you feel why don't you turn to your neighbor and tell them say it feels good in the house of the lord tonight turn to your other neighbor and say i'm going to figure out what they're doing here in just a minute you can be seated it's so good to be in the house of the lord with each and every one of you it's so great to see so many different guests that have chose to worship the lord with us on this sunday evening i know that sunday evening services in some places have become something that they chose through coven maybe to do away with and i'm not casting shadow shade on any of them or saying that they're not going to heaven or nothing but i'm thankful for sunday night services amen i'm thankful to be able to get all i can get out of the first day of the week amen you know they say that uh each person has to carry their own cross which means it means each individual person needs a certain amount of crucifying right maybe you've heard me talk about this before but you know my son's cross he's a little dude wouldn't kill me i could live on it for years you could nail me to it but i could still maneuver around and i could still choose do what i want to do so maybe it's just in this area maybe we just need sunday night service but i'm glad we have sunday night service maybe we need a little more church here in east tennessee but i'm glad we have a time together i don't know about you but we had souls baptized this morning but we have a lot of people that come to god and pray through on sunday nights and get breakthroughs and they receive the gift of the holy ghost so i'm thankful for a sunday night service and i thank you for choosing to set aside a time to come out once again on a sunday and worship the lord i'm going to read from a passage of scripture and we're going to go right into the word of the lord today i'm thankful for the souls that were baptized this morning went down in the name of jesus for the remission of sins matthew chapter 27 and verse number three says this then judas and you can just remain seated if you i i know i'm killing culture right now but if you can just remain seated because i'm going to just meander right through this it says then judas which had betrayed him when he saw that he was condemned repented himself somebody said judas repented you know judas gets a bad rap but judas repented now i want you to see this with me judas repented and brother you don't have to keep playing that organ because you're going to play it for another 30 minutes and between you and my voice we might put them to sleep so you you sound amazing though it says judas repented and he brought again to 30 pieces of silver to the chief priest and to the elders in other words he had he had received this 30 pieces of silver denied jesus you know the story and he brings it back and says hey i i've done something wrong would you would you forgive me and i'm going to give you this money back because it's it's it's it's shown now through through the course of time here it's not been very long but it's proved to me that it really wasn't worth the 30 pieces of silver so he brings it back and he gives it gives it to him he says would you forgive me he repented himself and he throws if you can see this with me he throws the silver down here he says saying i have sinned and i have betrayed the innocent blood and they said the chief priest said this what is that to us look at that with me what is that to us i tell you what it is to you you're the chief priest you're you're supposed to extend mercy that's your responsibility what do you mean what is that to us that's like somebody's showing up to the church wanting to repent you say has nothing to do with us that's up to you we're a place where we can you the mercy of god he draws people to repentance but it has everything to do with you see thou to that they said and he throws down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself if you look at scripture it's like it's a matter of 10 seconds judas is gone he throws the silver he leaves and he hangs himself this has always been very interesting to me we know it didn't transpire quite as quick as it does in scripture but the chief priest then took the silver pieces and said it's not lawful for us to put them into the treasury and you've got to look at these chief priests and always take note that you never want to be on whichever side of the law you want to be on because it seems like they are obeying some of the laws but then when it's convenient for them they're going to but he says it's not lawful for us to use this tre this this money or put it in the treasury because it is the price of blood and they took the council and bought with them the potter's field somebody say the potter's field there's three things we see here they bought the potter's field to bury strangers in wherefore that field was called the field of blood unto this day it's very interesting to me that the potter's field is the place of strangers the field of blood the unmarked graves the cemetery of strangers i have been in a fair share of cemeteries throughout the years the lives of loved ones who have passed on and it's very normal to walk by and see two four six maybe even more tombstones that all have the same name you can walk through and you'll see husbands buried beside wives have the same headstone perhaps they even share my grandmother and grandfather passed the beginning of last year and they share the same headstone they are buried right next to each other and that's that's the way you want it to be i've not come to be more of it or to stir up memories of lost loved ones or anything like that but rather to shed light on the passage of scripture that we read over numerous times maybe that the silver that bought uh bought that we see exchanged for jesus bought a field but not just any field it bought a field that was the field where we'll bury strangers people that don't have any loved ones in fact as i began to study this that kind of sent me down this path during coven 19 there's actually a place called the potter's field that is in an upstate northern part of new york and they buried i think 27 people from coven 19 in what they call the potter's field because these people died under bridges and different places and nobody really knew who they were so this is still a thing that happens today but we see here that they tell us a few things about the field the field tells us the value of what judas traded jesus for you say 30 pieces of silver that don't seem like much in fact for in today's uh economy it's worth about 21 and 60 cents so you can see that today maybe it doesn't seem like as much value uh maybe it doesn't translate but in that day what judas traded jesus for would have purchased the field not just any field but it would have purchased the potter's field so it shows us the value but once again i'll remind you that one thing this passage tells us that it doesn't really matter what judas traded him for because no matter what you trade jesus for it'll never be worth it it'll never amount to nothing that doesn't you could say time will tell but it's pretty plain here that no amount of money no field no anything was enough to justify saying hey i'll trade the man that has trained me and i've followed nothing's worth trading your relationship with god over not a job not a relationship with a boy or a girl young person not a degree there's nothing that will ever amount to the cost of your relationship with god we see here that this 30 pieces of silver was enough to purchase the potter's field it was the intentions when purchasing the potter's field to bury strangers and we'll call it the field of blood even unto this day i don't know about you but i don't want to die a stranger i've heard many times it mentioned that the potter's field was a place of old broken marred pieces that were discarded or perhaps thrown out by the potter and i've done quite a bit of research into my studies i've not been able to find where that's the case it may have been but i can't find in my studies where that is is told or or described by any of the commentaries or any of the the theologians of of the scripture it just doesn't doesn't say it anywhere so it says they simply purchased the place because the ground was soft the ground was soft in the potter's field because that's where the potter would leave the potter's house and go out into the field and pull up some clay because it was soft ground and he would bring it back into his house it makes sense because we see that when you're burying a stranger you don't want it to be too difficult you know it was nine thousand dollars a person to bury somebody up in new york that's the reason they buried them in the potter's field they took them out and it was just simply if you find the the pictures online and look at it they just stuck them i hate to be more of it they stuck them in a box that was really no no not much more than a cardboard box it looked like and put them in this this big hole and just covered them up the potter's field was a place of soft moldable ground it was easy to dig it up it didn't take a man all day to dig to dig a grave here so they purchased the potter's field the place where uh that they had they had went to get the clay and it would be this easy burial place not a lot of work not a lot of sweat it was soft ground and it's amazing to look and to see that what takes place here is jesus was sold his cost was the clay field his cost was flesh if you could look at it with me that way his cost was enough to buy the potter's field where a man once took dirt to make vessels and he would take the dirt to make vessels and it becomes a place where the unnamed would be buried anybody seeing where we're going here the unnamed would be buried it would not just be the place where the unnamed would be buried it would be called the field of blood unto this day he took a potter's field a field of flesh and made it a place of burial and called the field the field of blood it sounds to me like a story of the ages he bought me he buried me and the blood redeemed me little did judas know that he was exchanging the price of the potter's field i want to preach to you for just a few minutes i promise you i won't be very long tonight on the potter has a plan he always has a plan he never wanted to exchange judas he never wanted for judas to be to to to betray him he never wanted judas to go out and hang himself but who would have thought that 30 pieces of silver would have purchased a clay filled psalms 40 and verse number two says he brought me up also out of a horrible pit out of the miry clay had set my feet upon a rock and established my goings and he had put a new song in my mouth even praise unto our gods many shall see it and fear and shall trust in the lord he took a stranger like me and you and he put his name on me his blood put me in the kingdom and made me a child of god i'm thankful that he brought me out of the muck and the mire and he set my feet upon a anybody thankful for where god's brought you jeremiah 18 and verse number 1 where we'll take most of our lesson for this evening it says the words which came to jeremiah from the lord saying arise and go down to the potter's house where i will cause thee to hear my words then i went down to the potter's house and behold he wrought a work on the wheels and the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hands of the potter so he made again another vessel has seemed good to the potter to make it then the word of the lord came to me saying o house of israel can i not can i cannot i do with you as the potter saith the lord behold as the clay is in the potter's hand so are you in mind o house of israel over 30 words of the hebrew vocabulary relate directly to pottery the manufacturing of pottery was a major industry in the land that day the word of god uses the potter and the clay to paint a picture for us as our relationship with god and jeremiah says i went down to the potter's house thank you brother randy and brother i hope this is sturdy if it falls brother randy and brother cody for making this for me and uh i couldn't help i had to be able to show you this picture tonight because when i started studying how the potter worked it didn't make much sense to me when i read jeremiah i was thinking of that one i think maybe two pottery classes i had to take in art class when i was uh in high school and i i was thinking you know that don't really sound like what we were doing when i was now years ago in school when he's talking about pottery because he says here i went down to the potter's house and there i'll cause you to hear my words and i went to the potter's house and behold he wrote a work on the wheels we saw here that the wheels uh it it paints this picture that this it's a he sits down at the wheels and he begins to remove anything from the clay that's unnecessary huh so again he's painting a picture they said he would remove maybe rocks with a jacob but there was a stick if there was anything he's going to go through and he's going to remove anything that he can and then he's going to slowly as he puts it down he's going to begin to add some water to it and he's going to try to make a vessel out of it that will hold something all right so what did he just paint for us he just painted repentance is there anybody here that needs to repent of their sins repentance he's going to add some water to it huh and he's going to make a vessel that can house something that can hold something right so he paints immediately a picture of his plan because the potter has a plan see this with me and so we see here that god has always wanted to remove some things add some water he's wanting us to always understand that his plan of salvation is repentance baptism and the infilling of the holy ghost in that we see that when jesus christ when he was nailed to the cross he becomes the ultimate potter because he's all in on you he is totally invested in you as an individual because he took nails in his hands and in his feet because jeremiah says that when he went in he says that he he began to wrought a work on the wheels now if you went today down maybe to the hobby lobby or wherever that you decided that you're going to get into some pottery brothercade it would be this little like thing like you're going to be just in case you want to you know it'd be like a little uh and just like putting the pedal to the metal all right you just put that you plug it in hit the little thing and it's going to spin it up here and you got to make something out of it all right it's not as easy as it sounds by the way but he says plural jeremiah says he works something he wrought something on the wheels why because we see god becomes the ultimate potter when he when he's crucified in his hands at his feet because jeremiah paints a picture he says there's two wheels there's a wheel that his feet go on that would move and then his hands would hold onto the pottery and they would mold so we see that his hands all of a sudden get involved and those nail scarred hands are moving while those nails are molding while the nail scarred feet are moving he's all in if you could see this with me he is completely invested in you he's not got a hand over here he's not got a foot over here he's not working his eyes are on you his hands are on you his feet are moving in your life and i couldn't help but begin to think when i began to study the scripture that it's not my will but it's his will and if i can get my will and his will that he wrought me on the wheels it begins to just flow and you say god if i can just get into your hands and i can allow you to move and i can allow you to work he said it's like a wheel in the middle of a wheel there's just something that happens when i put my hand i put my hands on the clay that god god begins to work and god begins to mold and i i couldn't help it it just begins to play out that when god puts both of his feet you can see how this this makes sense in our lives because how many times is god molding and he's not necessarily moving and you feel like god this is not what i thought it was going to look like this is not what i planned for i i we we sing about it all the time huh i i know you're working but i i i i don't necessarily see you moving right now i don't necessarily see you working right now but his hands may be working and getting some things out of us before his feet can begin to move so we see that he's all in on the vessel when he get on the wheels we see that god has the power to be able to turn some things around in our life when we get on the wheels we can see that scripture begins to make sense that he can turn beauty into ashes that he can turn your mourning into dancing that he can turn your life into something that you never thought was was imaginable so if you feel him tonight moving in a certain way if you feel him tonight maybe pulling and tugging on your heart like you never have before understand that you are wrought on the work of his wheels and i was marred in his hands but he says i'm going to make yet another vessel i'm thankful tonight that god painted a picture of what he was doing in my life through the potter and the clay you see when you get marred it's not time to make a move when things don't look the way you thought they were supposed to don't get off the wheels don't get out of the will of god because everything don't look like you thought it was going to don't jump off the ship just because things get rocky just because there's a storm don't abandon all the things that you know i i believe and i i i could preach to you for just a moment i you you know idolatry idolatry can be exhausting what you had in mind over what god has in mind idolatry can be um and i'm gonna make something out of this i'm gonna do something with this on and take life into my my own hands i you see there's some there's some powerful things that we can look at when we take and you say i thought it was going to be this way i thought it was going to look like like this i thought i was going to be able to i'm disappointed that i'm not this or i'm not that or i don't look a certain way or i don't have what they have and i begin it and you'll you will praise god if it looks like what you had in mind but when it's not what you had planned we find ourselves maybe not coming to prayer we find ourselves maybe not stepping cause it just don't look like what i thought it was i'm not willing to be involved right now because god's really doing some things that don't really look like what i had intended them to look like you want to serve god based upon what you have in mind the more faith than what you you have more faith than what you had in mind than what god is doing on the wheels so you try to take life in your own hands what happens with the wheels is you do whatever he wills no matter if they're going to throw you in a lion's den for praying you keep praying no matter if you're going to get thrown in the fiery furnace for not bowing you've still got to stand it's not what you had in mind it doesn't matter what it looks like good is based upon the promises of god not the promises of this world good is based upon what my word has to say not what my boss has to say what this bible has to say is what i base my life off of don't get off the wheel isaiah 64 8 says but now o lord thou art our father we are the clay thou art our potter and we all are the work of thy hand isaiah 29 and 16 says surely you're turning why because you're on the wheels of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potters clay for shall the works say to him that made it he made me not or things that frame say of him that framed it he had no understanding how many times do we not say it with our words but with our actions we say i don't really think he knows what he's doing he's not really making what i want to be making i'm here to remind somebody tonight that the potter has a plan the potter has a plan you you say well cancer wasn't a part of my plan and this job wasn't a part of my plan and this move was not a part of my plan and divorce was not a part of my plan this transition was not a part of my plan you know judas chose a terrible time to die it's more than likely judas hung himself while jesus was in the tomb don't die in a time of transition don't die while god is down there storming the gates of hell for you don't you get off this wheel while he's forming you getting ready to make the biggest move of your life fixing to promote you with his promises and pour out his anointing he's fixing to do something with your life and restore you and pull you out of something that would bring glory to his name but we get so impatient because it doesn't look like we thought it was going to look like and we remove it from the will of god i got to make a little more money i got to please the people around me i got to make every i i got to look right in the world's eyes so i take it off the wheels and i'm going to do with it what i want to do with it young people your number one goal ought to be to be right here in the center of his will i'm not going to do anything that takes me away from the hands of god it does not matter what anybody says you ought to be doing with your life you've got to stay in the wheel of god keep praying keep reading keep fasting stay on the wheel romans 9 and 20 nay o man who art thou that repliest against god shall the thing form say to him that formed it why hast thou made me this way hath not the potter power over the clay of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor now this is one that gets us what are you saying tonight when you don't worship to the one who formed you in your mother's womb what are you saying when you're in your life when you choose not to pray god why have you made me this way why am i a vessel of dishonor and they're a vessel of honor why is it why is it why is it why do i look this way romans 9 and 22 continues on and says what if god will was willing to show his wrath i don't know about you but i'm thankful that the potter doesn't show his wrath on the miari clay what if he says paul writes was he was willing to show his wrath what if and and he says to make his power known i thought he was going to make his power known through miracle signs and wonders but what if he made his power known by saying hey enough's enough i'm not going to mold i'm not going to move i'm not going to do anything else until you put your will huh he says what if he says but he endured god endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction what if what a powerful what if and that he might make known the riches of his glory of the vessels of mercy if there's anything that we ought to be able to call ourselves tonight if you're a child of god you're a vessel of mercy if you have the power of the holy ghost in your life you are a vessel of mercy that you were not consumed by fire that you woke up this morning that you are a vessel of the mercy and the goodness of god it's not his wrath thank god that came down and got me this morning because of anything that i did or said or the wrong motive or the wrong thought but i'm thankful that god made me a vessel out of his mercy he said which he had a form of prepared unto glory even us who he hath called not to the jew only but also the gentile don't question what god is making he's showing us all mercy just to have his hands on us i'd be dead in a devil's hell i'm unworthy to breathe another breath but god sees fit to make us rich of his glory as a vessel of mercy i must know that i'm marred but i'm in the hands of mercy i must know that tonight no matter where you're at in life that you may be in a mess but you're in the hands of mercy i can be a vessel of honor i wish you'd say that to yourself real quick i can be a vessel of honor no i i can be a vessel of honor i can be a vessel that houses his anointing i can be what god has called me to be why because he's a merciful god we're all just vessels of mercy no matter if we're standing up here or we're sitting out there or we're sitting on a barstool somewhere god is able to make us what he wants to make us because he has mercy on us i don't know about you but i'm thankful that god brought me out of nothing let us never forget where we come from let us never forget what god's doing for us i think oftentimes we come in and we think oh i'm being good by being at church we're here because of the mercy of god we're here tonight because he he's not finished with us we're here tonight because of his mercy the potter has a plan the purpose of the vessel will always be well and always has been to hold something jesus performs his first miracle performs he he turns the water into wine as the type and shadow of the outpouring of the holy ghost and the birth of the church he fills six vessels large vessels john two and six says and there was set there are six water pots of stone after the manner of purifying of the jews containing two or three fercons of peace jesus said unto them fill the water pots with water and they filled them to the brim and the you know a ferkin is somewhere between 15 to 20 gallons of water and he filled them to the brim so we'll go with 20 gallons anybody know what six vessels of 20 gallons equals 120 gallons he's always painting a picture why because the potter has a plan the plan of the potter is to make something of purpose the plan of the potter is i'm not just sitting down here to make something to put on a shelf that will just look nice the point of this potter when jesus sits down it's not necessarily of what color it's going to be it's not necessarily this or that or what shape because ultimately us being so different each and every one of us of what we can offer the kingdom of god we have all different shapes we have all different sizes we have all different callings but the ultimate business of the potter the ultimate purpose of the potter is can you hold his power can the vessel hold the holy ghost can it be a vessel of honor can it be trusted enough to house its presence the miracle of the myri clay and the plan of the potter is to make a vessel that can house his spirit the vessel finds purpose the vessel can pour into other people the vessel can serve the vessel can supply we through it's three and see it throughout scripture the vessel can be trusted can be used jeremiah 2 and 12 says be astonished oh ye heavens at this and be horribly afraid that ye ver be very uh ye very desolate saith the lord for my people have committed two evils they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters and hewed them out cisterns broken cisterns that can hold no water because when you forsake the fountain of living water when you don't have a purpose you don't have a plan you don't have an end goal then you'll just build for yourself whatever right he said they've forsaken they've forsaken the fountain of living waters so the end goal the plan of the potter is what to feel he's got something to put in the vessel he is much more careful perhaps there's somebody that's creating vessels tonight perhaps there's a pot or somewhere that's making a vessel they don't really know what it's going to be used for therefore when they're they're they're making and they're manufacturing this they don't really know it's it's it's end game so therefore that the potter understands that the ultimate goal is to house his presence so therefore that much the more is he going to make sure that every single part every single facet of the vessel is perfect so that it can house his presence so he has a plan but when you forsake the purpose you'll just hew for yourself out cisterns he says broken cisterns that can hold no water when you try to take molding into your own hands and make a vessel no matter how hard you try it's frustrating in life when you're always empty i've seen people young people seen it i used to have an old truck it had a leak in every everywhere you could have a leak you had to you couldn't dad would let me park it anywhere but out in the field because it just leaked all the time you fill it up with gas you get back in it and it's half full the oil has to be changed you got to pour water in it you got i mean it's just like this constant thing there's some people that live their life with a broken vessel you feel great on sundays you feel amazing on sunday night when you leave church you're like if god would just come back right now because by the time you get to lunch on monday all that has just seeped out because for some reason we feel like that god wants to do a work when we're in here when we're feeling him moving and we're based maybe you're feeling the moving of mighty almighty god because the choir is singing or the person next to you is overflowing but when you get out and you you you have no prayer life you don't read the bible i'll remind you this some things only come by prayer and there's some things that you're going to have to do that don't necessarily have to be motivated by this pulpit because there's some times in your life where things have become so fleshly driven where am i going to go to college that'd be something good to fast about who am i going to marry that'd be something good to fast about i'm making a big job change that'd be something good to fast about because i want to make sure that i'm right here in the hands of god that nothing in my life is influencing me to get out of his will to i don't want to ever take life into my own hands i don't ever want to be a broken sister i don't ever want to just be this oh i'm just so drained i'm just so tired i don't know about you but i hear that more than ever before we're so right right now mental health is probably a top topic everywhere and i'll never i'll never play that down i understand it's a real thing but you're hearing it now more than ever before because we have erred on the side of safety for generations now and we're not mentally tough enough to deal with certain things you know there's no such thing as a peanut allergy sorry to everybody that's allergic to peanuts but it's not real you know why it's a thing is because a few decades ago parents there was somebody in some city and it got publicized that somebody choked on a peanut so parents on the side of safety stop giving their kids peanuts and when you stop giving them something they get four or five six and they try it for the first time and they have a reaction to it there come what we call the peanut allergy doctors claim it's not a real thing if you give it to them early enough but when we err on the side of safety it creates a fear it creates a lack of faith it creates i want to take matters into my own hands huh what i can't go there because that'll create a political division in the room but we err on the side of safety on things that maybe we don't even need there's things in our lives that my grandfather would have said hey you need to go pray and fast about that but now we'll put it in an office we'll give it medication it's called carnality it's called a broken vessel it's called taking life into your own hands it's called it's called rebellion mom and dad you've got to put you can't forsake the fountain of living water you can't forsake the purpose of the vessel you can't forsake the potter's hands and have the potter's purpose i don't ever want to forsake the fountain of living water maybe you and this place of musicians want to come i told you i wouldn't be very long maybe even the past hour you realized that the spirit of god is moving and you really don't know how to react to it maybe you're uncomfortable in the presence of god i challenge you tonight to do whatever you got to do to get back on the potter's wheel you're talking about safety to be in his hands to be moved when god wants to move to not force things you can make it you you can make it because you are a miracle of mercy there's a god calling someone tonight that simply he just wants you to kneel down and sing the old sunday school song and forgive me for the simplicity of the message tonight but he's still working on me no matter how long i've been in this thing if i'm a seasoned saint if i'm a student if i've had the holy ghost for how long it didn't matter he's not finished yet he's still working on me you say well i failed him say i've messed up i've done some things that his word says you cannot do i've done some things and people have labeled my life you don't understand there's not a person in here tonight it's just not a marred mess of god's mercy i don't know of any other way to express it to you tonight but you are nothing more than a miracle of god's mercy he pulled me up out of the potter's field he buried me he gave me his name and he's still working on me i want you to stand your feet we'll read one last portion of scripture this altar call will be a little bit different tonight i'm going to open it to everyone that wants to come and just make sure that your life is not a leaky mess that you're not trying to do anything without god's purpose and god's power just simply to say god i know you're still working i know you're still moving but i feel very strongly in prayer this afternoon to go to john chapter nine and verse number one i really didn't know why god directed me in this message tonight in fact i text brother randy this afternoon and he made this but i knew once i got up for prayer from prayer this afternoon why god wanted me to preach this message and he took me to this passage of scripture and see the potter always has a plan john 9 and verse number 1 says that jesus passed by and saw a man which was blind from birth and his disciples asked him saying master who sinned this man or his parents that he would be born blind jesus says neither has the man sin nor his parents i hope you see this the way i saw it this afternoon but that the works of god should be manifest in him i say what's wrong parent sin he's sin let us not be a congregation that wants to look and say hey what's wrong with them what's going on in their life they're up here praying so hard what's going on in their life that they can't get it together that's all of our lives unless we let god get it together he said there's nothing wrong brother nolan he said he hadn't sinned mom and dad hadn't sinned he is simply he's simply an opportunity for me to show my power he is simply a perfect example of something that i can take in my hands and begin to mold and make a miracle vessel that i could be glorified that i could be lifted up among all the people and so what's he do he reaches down and grabs some clay and he said he's not he's never been able to see and i'm not going to use anybody i want to so bad there's a few young people i could use stick this all up in your eyeball but i won't do that to you because it's all over my hands huh he sticks it up like he said go wash he always has a plan he's always painting
