Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Do Not Add or Take Away: His Word Is Enough

  • Opens by reading Deuteronomy 4: God, through Moses, gives His people instructions so that they may live and go in to possess the land and the promises He has for them.
  • The command is plain: you shall not add to the word He commands, and you shall not take anything away from it.
  • The theme of the sermon is announced — "His Word Is Enough" — with thanks for the times that word has spoken, lifted, instructed, and encouraged.
  • God valued His people enough to preserve His word, so that it is still available all these years after He first spoke it.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 4

A Queen Who Leaned on the Word

  • From an author's interview and book on the faith of Queen Elizabeth: facing her coronation, she asked people, whatever their religion, to pray that God would give her wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises she would be making.
  • Across her lifetime she consistently cited the word of God on special occasions, calling the Bible an imperishable truth and a treasure house of inspiration and counsel.
  • Her testimony is held up for the congregation to echo: "I am one of them" — one of the billions who follow Christ's teachings and find in Him the guiding light for their lives.

Living by Every Word of God

  • God humbled Israel, allowed them to hunger, and fed them with manna to make them know that man shall not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.
  • People survive life's difficulties victoriously not by natural blessings, abilities, or talents, but because God and His word are enough.
  • Jesus used this same truth to answer Satan in temptation: "It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."
  • In the midst of testing, the instruction is to go to the word and depend on it — the sword of the Spirit that no doubt, relativism, or relevance can erase or change.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 8; Deuteronomy 8:3; Luke 4

The Whole Counsel, Unchanged

  • Revelation 22 warns that if anyone adds to the words of the book, God will add to him the plagues written in it, and if anyone takes away from them, God will take away his part out of the book of life.
  • The word must not be cut up, decorated, or reshaped: it is the inerrant, forever-settled word of God, to be obeyed and kept as commanded.
  • Paul declared the whole counsel of God, and the whole counsel must be preached, taught, lived, and believed without hesitation — even the portions that bring conviction.
  • Presenting only the desirable principles, like a salesman hiding the negatives, produces weak believers and deceives hearers; there is gospel, and there is "gospel light," and they are not the same.
  • Obedience will meet resistance from the flesh, from our own minds, from others, and from popular opinion — but a life built on the rock of His teachings is what stands and pleases God, and everything God has promised will come to pass for those who hold on without doubting.

Scriptures: Revelation 22

His Word Is Enough for Salvation

  • Jesus told Nicodemus that except a man be born again — born of the water and of the Spirit — he cannot see or enter the kingdom of God; He was not trying to keep people out but to instruct them how to get in.
  • The word is enough for repentance and forgiveness: blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven and whose sin is covered, and the one who acknowledges and confesses his sin finds that God forgives, whatever the past or a guilty conscience says.
  • On the day of Pentecost, the answer to "men and brethren, what shall we do?" was: repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • The promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off — and the same word will still be enough for the generations who hear it decades from now.

Faith Comes by Hearing the Word

  • "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" — if you want faith, the word itself is the answer for what to hear, read, and listen to.
  • Books and testimonies can build faith, but only because they contain the word of God or the principles from His word; reading and believing the word is what actually builds faith.
  • Faith does not deny reality — it acknowledges the real sickness, the real challenge, and the real financial pressure, and believes the word anyway.
  • God's invitation stands in His word: ask and it shall be given you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened.
  • Peter climbed out of the boat in the storm on a single word — "Come" — and one word from the Master, obeyed, is enough to step out in faith even while the wind and waves continue.

Scriptures: Romans 10; Romans 10:17

A Word for Healing, a Word Against Sin

  • The service pauses for prayer for healing with the laying on of hands according to the word of God — believing God also gave doctors and nurses their wisdom, and that the faith of His people is one of His tools.
  • Believers are encouraged to "get a word": through prayer, take hold of a word from Scripture — whether for provision, healing, or help — and let God work that word in their lives.
  • The centurion told Jesus He did not need to come under his roof — just speak the word — and his servant was healed; a word of faith for healing or provision can be opened, read, and believed right now.
  • "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee" — the hidden word is a deterrent to sin, and a life full of the word of God loses its appetite for ungodliness.

Scriptures: Psalms 119; Psalms 119:11

Walk with a Word

  • The closing call is to do what Peter did: get out of the boat and walk with a word, bringing every need — forgiveness, a healing touch, provision, family and relational needs — to the place of prayer.
  • God has never failed; His word will never pass away but will endure temptation, storm, and years, and with God nothing is impossible.
  • The prayer is to agree with His word exactly as given — not adding to it or subtracting from it — and let the word work and blossom into the fruition He intended.
  • A final prayer is made for those holding a word that is still unfulfilled, even after ten, twelve, or fifteen years: God did speak it, that word is still enough, and He is asked to strengthen them and help their unbelief as they keep believing.

hallelujah would you just express your faith in god right now hallelujah oh god thank you for giving us your word so that we need not be afraid thank you jesus deuteronomy chapter 4 and at the beginning of that chapter god and god through moses is giving his people it was israel then we're his people now instructions that was for both them and that we can apply for our today's deuteronomy chapter 4 and verse 1. now therefore hearken o israel under the statutes and judgments which i teach you so that you will do them that you may live in other words god's giving you what you need to have a good life to go in and possess the land i'm giving you what you need to experience my promises and blessings which the lord god of your fathers gives you you shall not add unto the word which i command you

neither shall you diminish ought from it that ye may keep the commandments of the lord your god which i command you in essence moses and god both are saying his word is enough and i want to use that his word is enough would you just thank him for his word and thank him for the times that that word has spoken to you and that word has lifted me god and that word as instructed and that word has encouraged and thank you for it all god and i thank you for our valuing us enough to preserve your word so that we can have it these many many years since you first spoke it thank you for it in jesus name amen and you may be seated his word is enough an author by the name of mr delph's interviewed queen elizabeth and wrote a book called the faith of queen elizabeth in that book he talks about and in the

interview he talked about the first christmas address that she made in 1952 and she was thinking about the huge responsibility and the sacred vows that she would be taking during her upcoming coronation which followed in 1953. here's what the queen said i want to ask you all whatever your religion may be to pray for me on that day to pray that god may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises i shall be making and that i may faithfully serve him and you all the days of my life 96 years old and 70 years that she depended upon the help of god delph's also says from the article and from the interview that the queen consistently cited references from the word of god during her lifetime and in sp on special occasions one of her statements was this to what greater inspiration

and counsel can we turn she was kind of preaching this sermon the word of god's enough to what greater inspiration and counsel can we turn she asked rhetorically than to the imperishable truth i love that phrase the imperishable truth to be found in this treasure house the bible his word is enough in an address in 2016 her majesty explained billions of people now follow christ's teachings and find in him the guiding light for their lives i am one of them hallelujah you could mimic the words of the queen i am one of them i have found that wonderful guiding light of his word god repetitively tells us in his word that it is enough he says things such as in deuteronomy chapter 8 and 3 that man shall not live by bread only but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the lord and earlier

in that verse he said god humbled us and suffered us to have hunger and fed us with manna that he might make known that we cannot live by life sustenance alone he allowed the people of that time to experience life difficulties where they could not depend upon natural blessings or natural helps and yet in spite of that they survive victoriously why because his word is enough i know that i preached to people here today that have gone through struggles and troubles and trials and sufferings and all we had to turn to was the lord god and his word but his word and he they are enough god is enough jesus used this response this truth in response to satan according to luke chapter 4. he turns to him and says satan it is written if you want to know a great weapon against the enemy it's this sword of

the spirit and sometimes many times most times we should talk to god but every once in a while we we need to talk to the old boy and tell him it's written nobody's going to erase it nobody's going to change it relativism relevance in this world none of that is going to change the fact that this is an imperishable truth and he said here's what's written satan man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of god when we are being tested jesus was teaching us go to the word depend on the word i speak to somebody today in the midst of your testing go to the word no matter how much doubt the enemy presents it is written we are not living by natural substance natural abilities natural talent or the things this world gives thank god for all of it that we possess but that's not what we live

by we live by the word of god the power of the spirit when god tells us his word is enough he means things like this and he said it in the one text that we read do not add to do not subtract from the word of god whatever i'm commanding you don't add to it or diminish from it he said in deuteronomy here's how seriously god feels about his word we can't go through and do like jeremiah did cut it up with a pen knife say i don't like that part there are parts that get to us there are parts that speak to us there are parts that convict us but here's what god how he feels about his word revelation 22 if any man shall add unto these things god shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book we must be cautious not to add to and add our own meaning to what god has meant or else he said

i'm going to do some addition myself and that's with the plagues that are written in this book i didn't study all of them out i don't even like to look at them they're scary they're spooky but they're real god said if i get to tampering with this hallelujah especially as a minister of the gospel but anybody for that matter we get to add to it well here's what it says but let me tell you what i think it says if you had to it he said i'm going to add plagues and if you take away from the words of the book of this prophecy god will take away his part out of the book of life whatever we clip out of the word of god and say that's not important today god can measure that and he said i'm going to take your name out of the book of life god is just emphatically saying my word is enough i just want

to pause right here i just pastored this church in a portion of its history but ever since it began in 1935 this church has held true and is still holding true and our pastor has been preaching the unadulterated word of god i thank god for a body that still believes in the word inerrant forever settled word of god we don't have to decorate it or enhance it he said don't change it or alter it don't question its meaning don't question its relevance he says just obey and keep whatsoever things that i command you he talks in the new testament about having faith and doubting not do not doubt everything that god has promised in this book is going to come to pass hallelujah everything that god has promised to us you may be in a season where god gave you a scripture or gave you a thought or gave you

a voice and it hasn't happened yet his words enough just keep holding on to it just keep holding on to it don't doubt it only believe jesus said and when you do that the miraculous can happen the impossible can happen we must present paul used the phrase he told those people at ephesus he said i've declared unto you the whole council of god the whole council we must present we must preach we must teach we must live we must believe the whole counsel of god without hesitation even the portions and principles that are more difficult to acknowledge and i'll be the first to admit and you many of you would probably agree if not all there are some difficult portions to acknowledge and to accept because they strike a conviction to us are they moving us when we know we are not in direct alignment to

the word of god we must obey the whole counsel of god if not we will produce weak believers i read an article by william tozier and he's cautioned ministers and believers we must be careful not to use the salesmanship technique of presenting only the desirable principles messages truths of his word and ignore the other parts a good salesman is going to focus on the positives and kind of just set in the background any negatives well how much energy will that take where will be the closest charging station so i can plug in my electric vehicle and they'll tell you a lot of things you know but there's just some things that may not seem as appealing we will not use the modern salesmanship techniques there are blessings in god's word there are also commandments and expectations in god's word we

will have suffering and challenges and trials as we attempt to obey the word of god there will be resistance from your own flesh and from our own minds and from others and from popular opinion i want to stop right here i hadn't intended to but i tell you what if there was ever a day that popular opinion is in direct contradiction to the word of god it is today that we are living in i know not everybody but the majority and what you feel and sense in culture there is a resistance to living by the word of god trusting in the word of god believing the word of god there will be resistance but hold on to this wonderful truth believe that word trust that word if we withhold parts of his truth not only will we produce weak believers but we deceive believers we deceive hearers of that word we deceive

ourselves and others into believing and practicing and teaching erroneous and false and non-biblical things we believe in more than gospel light truth there's bud sorry for the analogy but there's bud and there's bud light there's gospel and there's gospel light sounds similar looks similar but it's not the whole council of god there is no doubt that building on the rock is more difficult than building on the sand but here's what we know your life on the rock of his teachings and his word jesus declared this that's going to what be what stands and that is what is going to please god his word is enough for salvation jesus answered and said unto nicodemus verily verily i say unto thee except a man be born again that doesn't sound like if you want to that doesn't sound like it's a good idea it

sounds like except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of god and in verse 5 he repeats that except statement of water and spirit and says he cannot enter he wasn't trying to keep people out he was trying to extra instruct them how to get in because he knew there were going to be so many other voices so he said i got to say this i just got to say this except you're born of the water and of the spirit except your water baptized in jesus name hallelujah i just want to tell somebody today his word is enough for your repentance and your forgiveness his word said blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven whose sin is covered blessed is the man unto whom the lord imputes not iniquity in whom his spirit in their spirit there is no guile i acknowledged my sin unto you lord my iniquity

i did not hide i will confess my transgressions unto the lord and you forgave the iniquity of my sin i don't care what your past tells you god will forgive you i don't care what people are saying god his word is enough our guilty conscience is not better and bigger than god's word god said i'll forgive you god said i love you god said i will reach to where you are those folks on the day of pentecost wanted to know what does it take to be saved they wanted to do enough and not let it be said they didn't do quite enough and so god's answer through simon peter here's what it was now when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto peter and the rest of the apostles men and brethren what shall we do and peter said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus

god is wanting somebody to be baptized i don't know if it's somebody online or somebody here god is wanting you to be baptized with his love with his grace with his mercy but according to his scripture in water in the in his name so that your sins will be washed away be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost we are going to continue to preach that because the word of god is enough and any person who will do that that's enough for you to enter a salvation experience and begin a relationship with almighty god and not only is that enough for you but he goes on to say in verse 39 the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are far off even as many as the lord our god shall call the word is

enough from the youngest children back in children's church and nursery these young people who are here if the lord tarries long enough for them to be in their 30s 40s and 50s think about that young ladies trying to wrap your brain around that at that age it's like trying to wrap your brain around when did eternity start i want to tell you that when they come 30 years later or 40 years later or 50 years later it'll still be the same word the words enough the words enough if you want faith the word's enough if you should wonder what do i need to hear what do i need to do what i need to listen to what should i read to increase my faith and give me more faith here's the answer romans 10 and 17 so then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of god paul was saying the words enough to build

our faith now yes there are books and testimonials and reports that we can read and build our faith i love to read those accounts i've got a book by billy cole back there and i read about the accounts of miracles in his life and sister haney wrote a book about angelic manifestations and you talk about when you hear a testimonial like that it builds your faith but any reading any book any testimonial that builds faith it's because they contain the word of god or the principles from his word as we read and we believe that is what's going to build our faith faith does not deny reality faith acknowledges reality and believes the word anyhow maybe you've been accused of ignoring reality come on be real no faith acknowledges the real sickness the real challenge the real financial need and pressure

but it believes the lord that says in his word that says you go ahead and give and i'll open the windows of heaven and i will pour out a blessing on you that you will not be able to contain read and believe god offers an invitation to his people and others through his word all it takes god gave this invitation in his word ask and it shall be given you seek you'll find it not the door shall be opened unto you there is an invitation i think most of us enjoy reading the account of simon peter stepping out of the boat now quite honestly i wouldn't have liked to been in that boat if jesus comes close yeah but storm storm i've been out there in the ocean and out there with with roy and with pap and those clouds start gathering and i started thinking sure forget the fishing pole forget the net pap

like to drag those nets forget all that stuff i'm thinking sure sure and it starts storming and jesus comes to them walking on the sea and he told them be of good cheer it is i be not afraid now there's a time it really tests you is the word enough it's still raining it's still windy and the waves are still blowing but god made a promise he said i'm going to be with you you don't need to be afraid and peter answers and says lord if it's you invite me to come on the water and the lord responds in verse 29 and says come one word and peter starts climbing out of that boat i'm going to tell you that that that verse right there or to keep me from from criticizing simon peter the rest of my life come all peter had was one word look at all this i've got god wants me i'm not sure what it is right

now god wants me to step out in faith in this service he may have already told you what he wants you to do he wants us to step out all jesus said was come one word was enough somebody you've already heard a word from god about this service today and about your life why don't you go ahead and just step out i just got to believe that simon he may have thought about it but i just got to believe he wasn't so worried about what the other disciples were saying at that point in time he was focused on jesus and eventually got focused on the stuff that was happening around him cancer diagnosis tough time of job or no job just surrounded by a storm surrounded by the thing but just one word from the master and i've had the privilege of hearing thousands of words is that going to put me in condemnation

no the lord's been just been gracious to all of us to give us his word but the point is obey and step out to the word of because his word is enough brother mark god wants to touch your body today where's that oil at pastor you got it would you just go pray for brother maclean right there in the name of the lord god wants to heal god what not just mark god wants to heal today hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah that's it that was what god wanted me to do i didn't know it in the name of the lord in the name of the lord touch brother maclean right now touch him oh god that's your church pray that's right hallelujah hallelujah we believe in the laying on of handsome in case you wonder we believe on the laying on of hands according to the word of god for the prayer of faith yes yes yes we believe

in doctors and nurses we believe that god gave them the wisdom and the ability to learn and receive god just uses different kinds of tools but one of the tools along with doctors and nurses that he uses is also the faith of his people and at a moment hallelujah if we question brother mclean he probably wouldn't say you know i planned early on just to stand up i i wasn't planning that but the word's enough if god says come if god says i want to touch you all peter had was a word our ladies the last few years sister sue has encouraged this get a word how many of you ladies have done this ever or even this year just lift your hand up there you go wow lifting up a little higher ladies sorry i'm not trying to embarrass you but i want to see this sea of witnesses hallelujah just get a word focus

on i'll go in bible reading i'll say babe what you're doing on uh you're doing your morning devotion uh she'd already done that and she said i'm working on my word how many pages you got you know i'm gonna borrow those to preach from someday you know ladies are journaling they're getting a word word what is that about it's about faith in this word whether the word is provision or the word is healing or the word is help or whatever that the word is whatever the word is because they felt directed through prayer to just get a word and then let god work that word in their life and let his word speak to them god wants to touch i love the promises of god's word i love the healing power of god's word that that one that one centurion that had that servant here's what he said jesus headed his way jesus

was going the messengers that went to get jesus the man had sent him and he's going to the house and he said he said he said black word he said jesus you don't have to come under my house you're not coming under my roof just just speak the word when those messengers got back that boy was touched and that boy was healed hallelujah he said just say a word and my servant is gonna just speak the word just somebody somebody just needs to open your bible you can go ahead and do it right now and read a word of faith for healing or read a word of faith for provision god can heal your body god can provide what you need in your life a word is all that it takes i want to speak to somebody that is battling with temptation and against sin psalm 119 and 11 thy word have i hid in my heart that i might not

sin against you o god the writer said the word is a deterrent to sin hallelujah oh god i thought about the bread analogy that jesus used we shouldn't we're not living by bread alone of this life but by every word the bread of life the milk and the meat of the word you know what when we get so full of the word of god we won't have an appetite for some other things we don't have appetite for perversion or ungodliness or gossip or just whatever it might be we won't have an appetite when we get full of the word of god he said thy word i'm going to tell you that scripture works right there thy word have i hid in my heart when i just read it i'm going to tell you i'm going to tell you my middle name is thomas dot and thomas took over while i was reading that verse right there you're going to make

it sound that simple preacher you're going to make it sound like you just read that word and obey that word and do that word and that'll help against it yes ma'am yes sir i am the word is enough whatever you need a provision the words are not stand with me if you would please hallelujah just saying a word just look to the word just start walking with a word hallelujah that's what that's what pete did he just got out over that side of that boat all he had was a word and he started walking with a word god you said it jesus you said come i'm going to obey that you have a need right now you have anything in your life you need if you need to be forgiven if you need a healing touch if you need the provision of god i'm going to encourage you just walk with a word walk on his word as you come to this

struggling with believing it in following after it or maybe you got a word ten years ago and you're wondering did i really hear that right or did god really speak that i want to confirm that he did speak it and that it's his word and that word is still enough and yes it's been 10 or 12 or 15 years but you can still stand on that word this morning if you've got a word yet unfulfilled and you need god's help and strength to continue to believe and follow it would you just lift your hand right now you're still looking for an answer the lord sees you he knows where you're struggling where you need strength i want us to pray right now for all of our brothers and sisters who've got a word ah but they need god's help to follow it lord i believe that your word is calling us today oh there's been a

reminder today that your word is enough i pray that you'd help us as we walk out of this place to believe it to stand on it even if we haven't seen it yet help us to believe lord help our unbelief of god i pray that you'd increase our faith and help us to live by both the word of truth and the words that we have received oh in the name of jesus strengthen us today strengthen your body in the name of jesus in the name of jesus in the name of jesus his word is enough
