Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Honoring his father and the day's assignment

  • He pictured our life as a tale, or a book that is written and told, and said that in the book of the life of his father Everett, you would be on chapter 92 today — it was his father's birthday.
  • He honored his father for years of provision for their family, both spiritually and naturally, and for years of service to the kingdom of God, calling him a treasure.
  • He noted that the two of them, at 92 and 69, sometimes get mistaken for brothers.
  • His assignment for the day was to exalt and magnify the Lord, to focus and renew our vision of Him, to inspire a fresh faith in Him and His word, to allow Him as the Miracle Worker to do the work of the miraculous in the room, and for all of that to prompt us to tell others about Him.

Jeremiah 10 — there is none like Him

  • He read from Jeremiah chapter 10: 'Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven' — we are not to compromise with this world or try to blend in.
  • The customs of the people are vain: an idol is a tree cut from the forest, the work of the workman's hands with the ax; the gods are upright as the palm tree but cannot speak, and must be carried because they cannot go.
  • In the New Living Translation wording he quoted, such gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field — they cannot do harm, and neither is it in them to do good.
  • He paused on the word 'none' in 'there is none like unto thee, O Lord': it is the strongest possible denial — there is no particle of evidence that anyone compares with God; Thou art great, and Thy name is great in might.
  • The Lord is the true God, the living God, and an everlasting King, who made the earth by His power, established the world by His wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by His discretion; the portion of Jacob is not like the idols, for He is the former of all things, and the Lord of hosts is His name.

Scriptures: Jeremiah 10

His name is great in might — an unexplainable God

  • His name is full of power, and someone had told the preacher earlier that someone in the service was very desperate; if that person would just stand up and out loud say the name of Jesus, that name of the miracle worker would take care of whatever they were fighting — a spirit, fear, sickness, depression, or a devil.
  • He gave freedom for that person to stand and call on the name, glad for a church with a freedom anointed by the Spirit of God, where the most proper thing is that the name of Jesus is exalted.
  • Reading this same chapter at home with his sister-in-law Debbie, she responded, 'He's beyond words' — God is unexplainable, beyond our vocabulary.
  • His transforming, regenerating power is unexplainable: there is nobody too far and nobody too lost — not the son you are praying for, not the daughter you are burdened for, not the family member you love.
  • His peace is unexplainable and surpasses all understanding: in a troubling, troublesome world, you do not need to be swallowed up by depression, darkness, or addiction.
  • H. D. Spafford lost four daughters all at one time in a ship accident, and as he traveled across the Atlantic he wrote, 'When peace like a river attendeth my way... it is well, it is well with my soul.'
  • The next time you feel the weight of the world, talk to the One who made the world; as our perception of God grows greater, the size of our challenges grows smaller — God is bigger than any cancer, and the preacher recalled kneeling at quarterly prayer and fasting the day the report came of Becky's breast cancer, and testified that healing came and she was present with good reports.

Magnify the Lord with me — Psalm 34:3

  • He led the congregation to read Psalm 34 and verse 3 aloud with him — 'O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together' — urging them to put a little spark in their voices, like talking somebody into joining in.
  • To magnify is to make great in the view of the mind, no matter the circumstances.
  • A. W. Tozer wrote that after many years of observation and prayer he was positively sure the basis of all our trouble in religious circles is that our God is too small.
  • Magnifying does not make God bigger; as with a telescope and a star, we do not make the star bigger — we see it as big as it is. We are only to see Him bigger.
  • A service is big not because a lot of people are present, but because the people present see a big God; you either have a big God and little problems, or a little God and big problems.

Scriptures: Psalms 34; Psalms 34:3

Magnification brings distant miracles into view

  • We use a telescope, binoculars, or a microscope to magnify things that are too small or too far away to see with natural vision; through magnification we see the crater and the rings that the natural eye cannot see.
  • When we start magnifying God, things that seemed far-fetched — healing of a cancer, or provision of the exact amount of a bill that is due — come into view; He still is Jehovah Jireh.
  • Do not stop giving because you have a need; give in spite of the need and magnify His word about tithe and offerings — God can put groceries on the table, take a tumor out of a lung, and take a spot off a bone.
  • Paul said God will supply all of your need — even the one need that has really got you worried, the one He seems to be taking a little time to work on.
  • There is a miracle for this morning: He is the miracle worker, greater than any need in the room, able to heal the body, remove a tumor, mend a bone, and heal the vision.

The Creator of Genesis still creates

  • His dad and mom had told him through the years of Elder Walter Gwynn's nephew, his brother's son, who was born without eyeballs; the church started praying, and eyeballs formed and developed in the baby's eyes.
  • That boy later joined the armed forces — they believed it was the Navy — and when he was tested he had perfect vision; God created them, and He creates all things perfect.
  • If God is the Creator in Genesis and has not changed — the same yesterday, Genesis 1 through 5, and the same today and forever — it is no problem for Him to create eyeballs, ventricles, heart vessels, and arteries, or to open a job where there has been a closed door; He is still Jehovah Jireh.
  • Whatever the situation — a hearing problem, a bone structure problem, a vision problem — God is able; and there is a new body waiting on all of us.
  • God also wants to show us some new things: as with reading magnifiers, when we magnify God in our devotions He can lift a phrase out of the reading that we never saw before, because our heart and faith and mind were set to believe His word.

Scriptures: Genesis 1-5

Magnify Him together at the altar

  • He asked those with a request to stand where they were, and those near them to step over and pray with them — magnify with me, magnify together.
  • We magnify Him as healer and as greater; He is the same, but our vision needs to change, and it is changing — as on the day of Pentecost, when they were heard praising and magnifying God in tongues.
  • He opened the front of the building for any who wanted to come: for the transforming power of God, for the Holy Ghost, to repent, or to be baptized in the wonderful name of Jesus.
  • Think God greater than that situation — greater than the diagnosis, greater than the problem on the job, greater than the relational problem in the family; even the foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of this world.
  • Sister Gibson, whose doctor's prognosis was something like three to six months, sent a letter listing all the reports, and her response was, 'But that's not what Jesus said' — an inspiration of faith; ask what God is saying about your situation.
  • The service closed in thanksgiving to the God who provides for us and watches over us.

you may be seated in just before I read the text scripture says that our life is like a tale or a book that is written and that has been told so in this book if you turn to the book of the life of Everett Williford you would be on chapter 92 today happy Birthday Dad I honor you and respect you thank you foreign just remain standing if you don't mind it'll avoid a sit down and to stand up I I hope I get to do that the rest of my life

not just the rest of his but the rest of mine I would have him come up here today but I would be in even more trouble than I already am and you would be saying he's 92 and you're 69. what happened we get mistaken for brothers sometimes provision for our family both spiritually and naturally and many other things could be said but years of service to the kingdom of God and I honor you and you are a treasure dad today I preach magnify the Lord with me Hallelujah wow that's a

pretty good response to just the title but that's because that's who we are and that's who he is and that's what we do I said that's what we do and mine in the Lord's intentions that he wants my assignment today is to exalt him and Magnify Him to focus and renew our vision of him and on him and with that it will inspire a fresh faith in him and his word and also to allow him as The Miracle Worker to do the work of the miraculous in this room today and

all of that will prompt us to tell others thank you Pastor tell others about him and who he is and what he can and what he wants to do from Jeremiah chapter 10 and beginning with verse 1. Jeremiah 10 1 hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you o House of Israel thus saith the Lord learn not the way of the Heathen and be not dismayed at the signs of Heaven for the heaven are dismayed at them for the custom of the people are in vain for one cuttha

tree out of the forest the work of the hands of the workmen with the ax verse 5 they are upright as the palm tree but speak not they must needs be born because they cannot go be not afraid of them for they cannot do evil neither also is it in them to do good for as much as there is none like unto thee O Lord Thou Art great and thy name is great and might who would not fear thee O King of the Nations for to thee death to appertain for

as much as among all the wise men of the Nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like unto thee verse 10. but the Lord is a true God he is the Living God and an everlasting King at his wrath the Earth shall tremble and the nation shall not be able to abide his indignation thus shall ye say unto them the gods that that have not made the heavens and the Earth even they Shall Perish from the earth and from under these Heavens he hath made the Earth by his

power he hath established the World by his wisdom and has stretched out the heavens by his discretion verse 16 the portion of Jacob is not like them for he is the former of all things and Israel is the rod of his his inheritance the Lord of hosts is his name oh would you just magnify the Lord just before we're seated we magnify you again today we've done it all through this service we're going to keep doing it in this service and in our life we're not going to stop today we're

not going to stop this week you are great you are great and there is none Like You O Lord O Lord O Lord hallelujah hallelujah and you may be seated in the beginning verse he calls for his people's attention to hear his word then in the next few verses he deals with the wrong and the sinful evil beliefs and the ways of the life of this world and that the world possesses it's good for us to recognize and know and and draw a line of demarcation between the Holiness of God

and his word and the evil that is in this this world he said learn not their ways do not compromise one thing with this world do not try to blend in learn not their ways and he moves to the false gods in verse 3 and he talks about how Vain and how futile and how foolish it is and he talked there in verse 5 he said they're upright as a palm tree they look like they're okay and alive but they can't even speak they have to be born I found one

translation rather interesting and humorous the New Living Translation of that verse said their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field they cannot speak they need to be carried because they can't walk do not be afraid of such gods they cannot do you harm nor can they do you any good there is only one God and he can do us good and we praise him along with Jeremiah today in verse 6 far as much as there is none I want to pause on that little four-letter word for there is

none the literal translation is there is nothing there is no particle of anything there is no possible evidence that there is anyone like God the way God sees it there is no comparison with the other gods there is no comparison with any other Spirit there is no comparison with any other power no matter how strong in our culture and in a world it gets this is the strongest word the strongest possible denial that there is anybody like unto You O Lord for you are great and thy name is great in

might his name is full of powers there is none like you your name has great power someone came to me earlier today and said pastor I just feel to relate this to you he said I don't know who it is but somebody in this service somebody will be here later in this service who is very desperate and if they will just stand up and out loud Say the Name of Jesus that name of the miracle worker will take care of whatever it is that you are fighting if it's a spirit

if it's fear if it's sickness if it's depression if it's evil if it's a devil whatever it is his name is full of power and I would encourage you I would encourage you if you should be that person I give you freedom to stand up right now I'm desperate to I need the help of Jesus and I call on that name God hallelujah yes I call on that name Jesus because it's the name of the God who is a Wonder working God a miracle-working god Hallelujah I'm glad this church is

like this we don't have to feel intimidated and we don't feel like we're disturbing anything if we stand up and say I'm desperate and we call the name of Jesus we've got to have the spirit of God and I'm thankful he is Anointed this church with a freedom so we might as well let God work today we didn't come to have a pretty service and we come to Heaven as orderly and good and proper as it can be but only the most proper thing that would happen today if that name

of Jesus is exalted and we magnify the Lord we were reading from this a couple of weeks ago when we were out of town and we weren't able to attend a service in the location where we were with our sister-in-law Debbie and so uh they said You You You Preach you give the devotion quite a congregation my sister-in-law and my wife a good congregation when there's only two people you really got to watch your p's and q's as both of them know a lot of scripture so we were reading through

this chapter 10 of Jeremiah and Debbie responded as she was commenting she said Steve it just says to me he's beyond words God is beyond words as as much as I might try today and the way you are praising God with such strength and effort today but even that we still feel like he's beyond my vocabulary in other words a synonym to that would be he is unexplainable he can make an unexplainable regeneration and transformation there is nobody too far there is nobody to Lost not that son you're praying for

not that daughter your burdened for not that family member that you love and you are praying for there he has unexplainable transforming power we sang it a while ago and we really believe it he made the difference how to live like I used to live why he made the difference he has an unexplainable the person that seems the farthest away and the deepest in sin that you may know is not beyond the transforming regenerating power of the Holy Ghost experience he is beyond words he is unexplainable he has unexplainable peace

Invincible peace all excelling peace Paul said it surpasses all understanding peace this kind of peace in my I'm going to pause you don't do we not live in a troubling World a Troublesome world we shouldn't live like this but I'm going to go ahead and confess sometimes we go into a day or go into a week saying I wonder what's going to happen next I'm not alone in that am I help me a little bit I need a little company here but it's a Troublesome world and without the peace of

God and without this all-sufficient God and without this God is nobody else is like him that's why we've got something that nothing else can match you are not going to be swallowed up by that depression you you do not need to be swallowed up by that Darkness or by that addiction we have an unexplainable transforming God who can give unexplainable peace it surpasses all understanding it's well-being in the midst of unexplainable inconceivable unimaginable problems HD spafford was a man who wrote various songs and he lost four daughters all at one

time as they died in a ship accident and as he was traveling across the Atlantic to claim the bodies of those four daughters that's when he wrote these words when peace like a river attends my way when sorrow like C Billows roll whatever my lot you have taught me to say it is well it is well with My Soul just magnify the Lord above the next time you feel the weight of the world and it may be right now or there will be a next time talk to the one who

made the world overwhelming the weight of the world and I we have those kind of situations and those kind of pressures oh it's a day of great pressure but the next time you feel the weight of the world I'm imploring you talk to the one who made the world because there's nobody else like him and he knew that day of your trial would be coming and he also knew what he had promised that I'm going to be with you in the mount on the mountains I'm going to be with you

in the valley as our perception of God grows greater the size of our challenges grow smaller whew God Is Bigger than any cancer I have had or you have had or any situation now somebody could argue with me on that say yeah hey that's really easy to say and I would agree it is very easy to say but I want to come real quickly and say it's all so very easy to say that it is a true statement God Is Bigger Than cancer I was kneeling right here on a during

that time I believe it was quarterly prayer and fasting I was right here and that day we had got the report about Becky's breast cancer and I remember just pausing in my prayer long enough and I looked up and I caught her coming in to the building and that just hit me says to Kelly it hit me and I don't know if I was in the spirit or out of the spirit but I just I started crying because I felt the overwhelming and the possibilities of loss of life and loss

of life and but healing came and she's here today with various Goods reports stand up baby stand up just a minute go ahead and keep doing what you were just doing Hallelujah you don't do it just in sermons like this you do it all the time because we magnify the Lord Hallelujah the greater our perception of God the smaller our challenge becomes problems that I can magnify God Psalm 34 and verse 3. I want you to read it with me Psalm 34 and verse 3. all right ready that sounded pretty

good right there pretty together it did sound like a room full of bases though can't satisfy him for anything I want you to put a little spark in your voice when you read it kind of like you're trying to you get you're talking somebody into it with you and the folks don't worry folks around here you're not going to have to twist their arm you're not going to have to but just kind of put a little spark put a little tenor in your voice now guys don't put any soprano in

there just put a little put a little spark in your voice all right you ready oh that name the name of Jesus what name the name of that God who came and gave his life what name the name of that Jesus who raises the Dead oh magnify the Lord and I don't want to do it by myself oh magnify the Lord with me and let us us us exalt his name together together together together he's worthy of what you're just doing right there he's worthy of that and if you're not

finished don't stop somebody needs to grab a banner of Praise And Lead this parade magnify make great in the view of the Mind no matter the circumstances A.W Tozer a theologian a preacher a writer wrote this in an article I am positively sure that after many years of observation and prayer that the basis of all of our trouble today in religious circles is that our God is too small I started to title this sermon Honey I shrunk God not the kids and not the parents when he says magnify the Lord

he doesn't mean that you are to make God big but you are to see him as big when we take a telescope and look at a star we don't make the star bigger we see it as bigger because it's magnified the same is true about God we can't make God bigger Tozer said but you are only to see him bigger so God calls us in Psalm 34 God and David calls us o Magnify Him see him big Tozer writes a service like this one is not big because a lot of

people are present and thank God a lot are here today but a service is Big because any number small or large of people see a big God in this meeting and the bigger God has seen the greater the meeting and then he said you either have a big God and little problems or a little God and big problems big God little devil little God big devil life little life without God big life with God just Magnify Him you use a telescope are binoculars or a microscope to magnify things in other

words things that are too small are too far away are too distant they need magnification to be able to see so if I've got a friend and he's got a telescope and he's standing there and he's saying wow look at all of those elements about that star look at that crater and I'm over here saying are you crazy I don't see a crater I don't see rings around that star oh yeah and look at the different Hues and the different things what's happening is he is magnifying that star and I'm

just looking through natural vision but when magnification takes place things that seem so distant like healing of a cancer like provision of a thousand dollars or a hundred dollars or the dollars that are the exact amount of the bill that is due that seems so little or so far-fetched but when we start magnifying God and say he still is Jehovah Jireh somebody go ahead and grab a hold of this God's going to provide your need if you'll Magnify Him the bill is magnified the do and the due date is magnified

oh I don't know why I'm on this I didn't tend to go here but God did so if you'll magnify the provider don't stop giving because you have a need give in spite of the need magnify his word about tithe and offerings magnify his word do what the song said I don't give like I used to give I don't do like I used to do it seems far-fetched but God can put groceries on the table God can take a tumor out of a lung he can take a spot off of

a bone I'm glad I'm in the room where there's a whole bunch of needs anybody that don't have a need please stand no just just kidding I don't want you lying today we all have needs but we have a god that is greater and here's what he said I'm going to supply all of you need Paul said all of your need you mean even this one God that's really got me worried you mean even this one that seems not such so difficult things and all the others kind of worked out

but this one you're taking a little bit of time you're taking a little bit of time to work on this but he's still God Miracles that are beyond our natural mind over here we're just looking with the natural eye but there's a miracle for this morning he is the miracle worker and we're going to allow him to be that wonder worker that the writer said there's nobody else like you when we start believing he can do anything heal our body remove a tumor mend a bone heal the vision he's greater

my dad is related my dad and mom both related this story to me through the years Elder Walter Gwynn's nephew it was his brother's son had that son and he was born without eyeballs and of course back in that day which was probably back in the 30s to mid 1900s there was so much more limited medical knowledge as compared to today but the church started praying and eyeballs formed and developed in that baby's eyes now every time I tell stories like that I have to switch over from over here without

the telescope to overhear with the magnification God if you're the Creator in Genesis and you haven't changed and you're the same yesterday Genesis 1 through 5 and the same today and will be forever then it is no problem for you to create eyeballs to create ventricles and heart vessels and arteries Hallelujah and a job open up where there has been a closed drawer he is still Jehovah Chira I'll tell you about that boy and brother Gwen like to tell this dad said he later joined the Armed Forces we believe it

was the Navy and when he went in and was tested 20 20 vision woo God just said I'm going to create them and I'm gonna create them like I create all things perfect God's going to do your problem perfect come on connect with faith right now I'm not wanting you to connect with my statement son I want you to connect with the word of God which are in my statements and with the god the god that does it perfect he just said I could have created him before he was born

but I needed I needed magnification so I just pulled out the Gwen telescope today focused us on a miracle that says God can do any if you have vision problems right now some of our problem is OA God can't heal old age well he could but I'll keep getting older there's a new body waiting on all of us but no matter what your situation today if it's a hearing problem if it's a bone structure problem God is able you see this can feel a little strange Even in our Apostolic Services

because we've planned and we've looked so often through our natural vision so when you pull out the telescope are the microscope and you start thank you y'all have looked through binoculars right in this way out there can't see a thing and then all of a sudden well there's that buck I know what time of the year it is thank you there's that deer I think Becky's eyes are better than mine she saw about four deer the other day on the way home and I'm saying where binoculars you can see things

that you could not see before because of magnification there is some of us some of us been around here a long time and thank God we have but God wants to show us some new things God wants to lead us in some new Vistas and when we look and we put the binoculars on we put the magnifiers on say whoa I see that now I see that now anybody read with magnifiers little slow response there come on get them up there honest-hearted get them right there come on come on come

on I'm going to use this as a preaching point it's okay huh yeah I can read that better we're not reading our morning devotions and we do it with the magnifying God in the midst God is going to lift a phrase out of there now I'm not talking about the natural magnifiers keep using those that'll help but God when you start magnifying God said who hadn't this happened to you you read through you read through something you say oh I never saw that before that's because your heart and your faith

and your mind was set I want to believe this book I want to believe this word hallelujah I started down these aisles because God wants to heal somebody today God wants to provide for somebody today Hallelujah I feel like we've got our binoculars on we're going to see some things we haven't noticed or seen before anybody agree that God is greater than any need that is in this room yeah yeah if you've got a request just stand right where you are and I want us to use that verse do it

with me worship with me magnify with me magnify together if somebody's near you and are standing right now would you just pray with him move over step over reach over whatever it is right now go ahead God we magnify you we magnify you as healer we magnify you as greater oh God you're the same you're the same but our vision needs to change and it is changing it is changing that's it somebody go ahead let go of that tongue of worship let go of that praise Hallelujah somebody can speak in

tongues for another time or for the first time that's beyond Us in the natural but if we magnify God that's what it said they heard them on the day of Pentecost praising and magnifying God in those tongues hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah those of you standing just remain standing a moment if you would he's able he's able God I believe you for testimonies to come back from these people that are standing Hallelujah I believe it in my heart and I'm going to confess it with my mouth right now you are well able

to take care of any and every situation that is represented in this room we believe you Lord we want to start telling more answers some more victories more miracles Hallelujah well yes sir oh yes oh yes help us to see you beyond our protocol help us to see you beyond our boundaries God we want a big meeting because we see you as big in the midst of the meeting when everyone's stand together and I'm going to open the front of this building for you to come and pray with and far

whatever you want to come whatever you want to bring if you need to power the transforming power of God you join the saints of God that are coming with Deeds if you need the Holy Ghost if you need to repent if you want to be baptized in The Wonderful Name of Jesus we magnify that name of remission we magnify it if you want to bring a need and a request to the Lord just come on and begin together in here and magnify the Lord you you know your problem you can

think your problem but think God greater than that situation God greater than that diagnosis God greater than that problem on the job God greater than that relational problem in the family God you're greater your wisdom is greater than the wisdom of this world oh God the foolishness of God is even greater than the wisdom of this world we thank you now Lord hallelujah now would others Gather in to pray with and far these that have come here would you join brothers and sisters and let's magnify God together just bringing your

need as a magnification of God it will it will minimize the challenge in our eyes but it will maximize The God Who can handle every problem in every situation that's right thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you God thank you people of God any Miracle you can do it lord it's not in our hands it's not in our minds it's not through our words but it's through you oh God it's through your power it's through that name that is full of power that name that is great yes

yes yes we magnify you today we lift you above above the den and the voices of doubt and fear that may try to holler and scream and drown out your word We Lift You Higher we put your banner the banner of your name above us the flag of your name above us yes your able God if you're able that's it believe the Lord that's it believing God you can do it you can change Hearts you can change lives you're doing it now Lord you're doing it yes thank you Jesus thank

you I magnify you o God I magnify You O Lord this church magnifies you right now through prayer and Faith oh yes oh Jesus foreign ER you're proving yourself greater you're proven yourself greater oh Lord hallelujah yes you are yes you are go ahead and pray with them go ahead go ahead yes please foreign please please yes seven times foreign why should I worry about the eyes we're gonna sing a little bit more in just a moment the Gibson the diagnosis of cancer and she sent us a letter that listed

all of the different reports in common I tell you what that'd be enough to discourage you but the way she wrote the letter it wasn't discouraging at all in fact the last time the doctor reported to her gave her a report of prognosis he said something like three to six months her response was as sweet as sister Gibson is it just sounds just like her she said but that's not what Jesus said I tell you that is an inspiration of faith what does God say about your situation why hallelujah what

are you just asking God what are you saying what are you saying what are you saying God what are you saying put your need out there what are you saying yes he is foreign he always the Earth the whole winter is it is my God so why should I worry America on my knees God he always looks out for me the moment because my God what's up and now without those lyrics to the song Why don't you begin to lift him up he has those things in your life you do

provide for us thank you for that Jesus you watch over us thank you for that Jesus thank you God for who you are thank you Jesus thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Jesus
