Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Daniel Set His Face to Pray

  • Daniel, exiled for decades in Babylon, sees his homeland in disarray, Jerusalem desolate and its people scattered, and his heart is overwhelmed by the condition of his world.
  • His response climaxes in Daniel 9: he set his face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplication, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
  • DeLong reads Daniel's prayer (vv. 17-19) as the church's prayer today: hear the prayer of your servant, cause your face to shine on your desolate sanctuary, incline your ear and hear, open your eyes and see our desolations — not presented because of righteous deeds but because of God's great mercies: O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, listen and act; do not delay.
  • Taking his title from the song just sung, 'My World Needs You,' he announces an unusual service: he will preach a little while, hold a first altar call, preach a little more, and hold a second one, letting God come into the world at large and into individual worlds.
  • He opens with prayer that the congregation would follow the Lord wherever he leads that morning, seeking him in prayer and intercession on behalf of the world and every individual world represented.

Scriptures: Daniel 9

Our World Needs a Savior

  • Like the congregation, he has been captivated and deeply distressed by the conflict and upheaval in Ukraine and Eastern Europe — atrocities and the consequences of war watched on a smartphone, families torn apart and precious lives lost.
  • Amid the speculation, propaganda, and political divide, the reality stands: our world is in desperate need of an answer, a solution, hope — our world needs a Savior.
  • The reports include the loss of innocent lives, including children and babies — an estimated 80 children killed in recent weeks, all caught up in the darkness of this war.
  • If anyone has never experienced his salvation, they can today: repent and turn from sin, be baptized with sins washed away, and be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • Creation itself groans for the Lord's return, and the song has become his own prayer: show me your face, fill this place — my world needs you right now; fix what I see, and fix me as well if I have grown desensitized or unmoved by the plight of others.
  • Out of the anguish and desperation surfaces a stirring: a call to prayer, a commission to intercede for others, an invitation to action — and the recognition that at the very top of the list of what the world needs is Jesus and his church.

Our First Response Is Prayer

  • Daniel was a powerful, wise man with access to power, influence, and resources; he may have used other avenues, but notice his first response was to pray — he did not go looking for other means or other answers first.
  • He knows the name of every individual broken and affected by conflicts all over the world, the number of hairs on their head, and every time they have called out in prayer.
  • He wonders how often the name of Jesus has been uttered across the world this week, as people recognize that everything else — governments and programs — has failed them, but there is hope and an answer, and his name is Jesus.
  • As the people of God, our first reply and first response in light of brokenness in the world is to pray and to seek the face of God, as Daniel did.

Nehemiah Wept, Fasted, and Prayed

  • Over an estimated 100 years later, Nehemiah prays over the same city and the same broken people: the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates burned with fire, and the people are in great distress and reproach.
  • His response in Nehemiah 1:4: when he heard those words, he sat down and wept and mourned for many days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven — processing everything he heard in prayer, and inviting the God of heaven to intervene.
  • Rather than abandoning his world to darkness, he recognized there is still a healer of brokenness, a restorer in the middle of chaos, a king, a deliverer — the God Isaiah describes sitting above the circle of the earth (Isaiah 40:20, as spoken), whom the psalm calls the great King above all gods.
  • David's confession in 1 Chronicles 29:11: yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; yours is the kingdom, and in your hand is power and might — and Psalm 124:8: our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth; if he made our world, he can help and redeem our world.
  • Colossians presents Jesus as the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, by whom all things were created and in whom all things consist, the head of the body, the church — and Paul proclaims the same God on Mars Hill (Acts 17): the God who made the world and everything in it, Lord of heaven and earth, who gives to all life and breath, in whom we live and move and have our being.
  • God is not overwhelmed, befuddled, or wondering what to do with what is happening in our world or the world as a whole — he made the world in the first place; this is the God Daniel and Nehemiah prayed to, and the God the church is about to pray to.

Scriptures: Nehemiah 1:4; Psalms (book-only, as spoken); Isaiah 40:20; 1 Chronicles 29:11; Psalms 124:8; Colossians 1; Colossians 1:15; Acts 17

Altar Call One: Intercession for the World, the City, and the Field

  • Their prayers worked: when Daniel started praying, angels started moving, heaven mobilized, and the enemy had to shift positions; when Nehemiah started praying, kings started acting, favor and provision started flowing — the prayers of God's people are not just another drop in the bucket.
  • The stakes are named plainly: over 80 children caught up in this conflict, and a photograph of a mother and father running into a hospital with a one-year-old bombing victim who did not make it — a baby the age of his own son Wes, which stirred him as a father.
  • The congregation prays first for the nation of Ukraine and Russia — the leaders and the citizens — and for the missionary family there and the national pastor's family who decided to stay in the heart of the conflict to be with the church.
  • The prayer then turns to their own city, St. Louis — every street, home, and household — stirred by a memorial set up in a parking lot where someone was murdered: another reminder of a brokenness man has no solution for.
  • Finally they intercede for their field: their neighbors and community, the schools and college campuses — that what happens in this room would spill beyond it into their homes and field.

My World Needs You

  • God is not only concerned with the world as a whole; he is drawn to a broken and contrite heart and is concerned with your world and mine — he would stop a procession of thousands to step into the brokenness of one person, pausing for the woman with the issue of blood on his way to Jairus's crashing world, and stopping at the cry of Bartimaeus.
  • Many in the room could rightly say, 'The world as a whole needs you, but my world needs you today' — families here are facing more weight and brokenness than ever, some shattered within a single week's time.
  • John 16:33: in me you may have peace; in the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer — I have overcome the world; not only the world at large, but your world as well.
  • John 12: he came as a light into the world, and whoever believes in him need not live in darkness — free of addiction, bondage, and anything ensnaring a family; and John 14: peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives — let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
  • He stands with Job, who could not perceive God ahead, behind, or on either side, yet confessed, 'He knows the way that I take; when I have been tried, I shall come forth as gold' — and at the end, in Job 42:2: I know you can do everything, and that no purpose of yours can be withheld from you.
  • Even when a world has fallen apart — like David's, Job's, Daniel's, Joseph's, Hezekiah's, or the Shunammite woman's — the response is to set your face toward him: David's cry in Psalm 61, 'When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I,' and Psalm 121, 'My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.'
  • God has heard the cry and every prayer of these individuals and families, has seen every tear and recorded every moment; the answer has come looking for them today.

Scriptures: John 16; John 16:33; John 12; John 14; Job 42:2; Psalms 61; Psalms 121

Becoming the Answer: Altar Call Two and the Commission

  • Families and individuals are invited to come forward — some to receive God's help in their own lives, all to mobilize and pray for others as they would want to be prayed for in that moment.
  • The church believes God for Sister Drost: the report shared in Bible class had steadily improved — her life expectancy rising from 5 to 30 to 50 percent, breathing on her own and nearly out of the sedation — and if he can do it for her, he can do it for you; they also pray and believe for Alberta, putting her cancer in God's hands.
  • A message in tongues is received as God's response to the word heard, falling in line with what Nehemiah experienced.
  • In the middle of his prayer and intercession, Nehemiah became God's answer to his own prayer: our world needs him, which inherently means the world needs the church — when we pray, 'God, send laborers into the harvest,' he answers, 'You are one of them; bring me to them and bring them to me.'
  • The sermon closes in a prayer about our part: asking God's help as he calls and commissions the church to go into the world, spread the gospel, and bring Jesus to those who do not yet know his love, peace, grace, power, and forgiveness.

prophet daniel was desperate he lived in exile for decades in babylon upon hearing and seeing and remembering stayed in the condition of his world the nation the city that he loves jerusalem he finds himself broken in the season of mourning and a season of prayer echoing the same sentiment of the song that we just sang his world appears shattered and bleak his homelands and disarray its people are scattered all across the world his nation is non-existent his heart is overwhelmed by all that he's seeing and realizing does it sound familiar to us today in light of what we're seeing across our own world daniel aligns himself with the words of the song that we just sang a moment ago chapter 9 of the book bearing his name records his response to all that he's contemplating all that he's facing in verse 3. it comes to a climax and he says i set my face towards the god the lord god to make requests by prayer and supplication with fasting sackcloth and ashes and i prayed i prayed i didn't know what else to do so i prayed to the lord god confessed his prayer still applies this morning and it rings across the ages and the generations and i'll share just a part of it with you from verse 17 it's our prayer today now therefore our god hear the prayer of your servant and the supplications and for the lord's sake cause your face to shine on your sanctuary which is desolate oh my god incline your ear and hear open your eyes and see our desolations in the city which is called by your name for we don't present our supplications our petitions before you because of our righteous deeds but because of your great mercies verse 19 o lord hear oh lord forgive the lord listen and act do not delay for your own sake my god for your city and your people are called by your name and i feel that prayer and the anguish behind it i go in my heart this morning and i felt it for the last several days and weeks and at least the last month and beyond that being the case this morning i'm going to ask that you all please don't expect a regular typical sermon today but god has other plans i feel the lord leading us i'm going to do some specific things this morning i'm going to preach a little while and then we're going to have our first altar call and then i'm going to preach a little more and then we're going to have our second one and we'll allow god to do exactly what we're just saying to come into our worlds to come into our world at large to come into our individual worlds and to help us and to strengthen us and again if you're a guest with us today i'm so thankful that you've come and we're honored and glad that you're here you probably figured out by now that this is a pentecostal church and we worship like pentecostals and what we try to do as a church family as a body as individuals is we try to seek the lord and his spirit and his presence and wherever he would lead us even at the expense of our service schedules and protocol we just follow him and we follow where he leads and where he wants us to go and that's what i'm going to ask us to do today every guest and saint of god you just be sensitive to what the lord wants to do to use you in a time of prayer and intercession as god gets our attention aligns our hearts with his again we're gonna seek him and follow him as i preach the title of that song my world needs you i need you to pray with me right now church people of god all of our guests you're welcome to join with us would you pray right now of what god is wanting to do this morning and for your pardon it jesus i thank you for the hope of the song we just sang i thank you for the hope of your word and this morning we're asking for your help we're just going to follow you today wherever you lead us and we're going to pray and we're going to intercede on behalf of our world in every individual world that's represented here today we want to follow you and to be your church this morning so we're asking for your help in the name of jesus we pray

you may be seated but i invite you not to get too comfortable like many of you i have been captivated and deeply distressed by the conflict and the upheaval in the nation of ukraine and eastern europe as a whole i told several people later earlier this week it is such a grim reality when you can see the atrocities in the the intricacies and the effect and the consequences of war and modern conflict on your smartphone and on your device and we have observed from afar as lives across the globe are turned on in as families are torn apart by hostility as nations are engrossed in conflict as precious peoples and lives are lost and killed in this confrontation and beyond all the speculation the propaganda and the political divide there exists the reality that our world is in desperate need for an answer and our world needs a solution our world needs hope our world needs a savior this is evidence through all the pictures and the videos and the reports and i know you can't believe everything that you see i recognize that but the ones that are real and the ones that are truth compel us this morning and our hearts can hardly handle the reality of the loss of innocent lives including children and babies an estimated 80 children who've lost their lives in recent weeks all caught up in the darkness of this war in this world the consensus is clear today that our world is in desperate need of salvation and in desperate need of the savior who made a way for our salvation in the first place i'll pause here and say if you've never experienced his salvation you can experience it today you can be baptized and all your sins washed away you can repent or turn away from those sins you can be filled with the gift of the holy ghost and your life changed this morning the headlines of light have served to underline what i'm preaching today though that our world really does need jesus in light of everything we're seeing of late there seems to be a churning and a stirring in the spirit in the church by what's transpiring across the globe not just in eastern europe but elsewhere the apostle paul said this at the whole of creation the earth itself would groan for the lord's return and we're experiencing that in firsthand in recent times it's like the song we just sang has been on my heart so much of late and i thank the worship team for singing it i've listened to it a couple times i could barely make it through it it's been my prayer i'm sorry you're going to hear a lot of emotion today i feel the lord's heart for the lost and the broken but i've been praying my god show me your face feel this place in that place my world needs you right now fix what i see and god fix me as well if i'm so desensitized or unmoved by the plight of others i want you to fix me my world needs you right there's an anguish that we're feeling there's a desperation that's surfacing in light of what's happening abroad and even what's happening in our own backyards there's a stirring in a spirit a call to prayer a commission to intercede for others an invitation to action and lastly there's a recognition of what this song just said that of all the things our world needs right now and the list could be compiled at the very top of that list is jesus in his church and really there's not a whole lot of answers or solutions beyond that we've exhausted all of our solutions in the past 17 days and well beyond that what we really need is jesus what our world really needs is him i know that could be termed as an oversimplification but it is the absolute truth he is the answer for our world so i feel a call to intercession this morning one that we're going to respond to in a few moments

one that's reflected in daniel 9 and the prayer i just read he's daniel's contemplating the condition of his people in his world is homeland city of jerusalem he didn't have it on a smartphone he just heard reports coming in he describes his city as desolate as covered in shame it's an apt description for what we're seeing right now in our world this one's great city of david jerusalem is in shambles and in ruins his people are scattered everywhere faced with the prophecy of prolonged exile and the pain of his people daniel responds in prayer and intercession and fasting i recognize daniel was a powerful man he could have responded any number of ways he was known as a great wise man in that day he had access to power and influence and resources he had other avenues he could use to help his people and maybe he did use some of those but notice his first response was to pray i set my face towards the god of hell i didn't go looking for other means i didn't go looking for other answers but first and foremost i looked to him and i started to pray and i prayed the lord my god he started to voice his or lift his voice in prayer his first reply his first resort was a turn of prayer and a fasting intercession he praised the lord here you can hear this man's anguish in his voice oh lord forgive oh lord listen and act do not delay for your own sake my god for your city and your people are called by your name i have the thought and occurrence that he knows the name of every individual who's been broken and affected by conflicts all over the world he doesn't just know their name he knows the number of hairs on their head he's heard every time they've called out in prayer and i've been wondering i wonder how often the name of jesus has been uttered across the world this week as individuals recognize that everything else has failed me and governments hailed me and all these programs have failed but but there is a hope and there is an answer and his name is jesus i preached it several months ago it's still the case our first reply is the people of god our first response in light of brokenness in the world is to pray and to seek the face of god and that's what daniel did

it's over an estimated 100 years later he's joined by another man of prayer he's praying over the same exact city praying over the same broken people there's some elders who have prayed over our city for decades and we're still praying the same prayer and i'm believing god's answering that prayer nehemiah hears reports of the same city of jerusalem that there's great distress and reproach the wall of jerusalem is broken down its gates are burned with fire he here's a report of brokenness and hopelessness he hears the account of the despair of his people some of us have heard reports in just this last week that would that would shatter our heart or break our hearts over a lifetime we've heard these reports this was his response in nehemiah 1 4 so it was when i heard those words i just sat down and i wept and i mourned for many days i was fasting and praying before the god of heaven nehemiah like daniel in response to what's transpiring here and on earth he looks beyond all he didn't neglect all that he just looked beyond all that he looked up to heaven he said we don't have any solutions for all this down here so i wonder if i could get you to intervene lord i'm going to look to you and i'm going to look to heaven his heart was overwhelmed by it all again parallels between what they experienced and what we are now the word is so powerful the spirit was stirred moved at the plight of his people his physical frame itself couldn't handle the way the report the way to the reality of his world so like daniel he responded and the only way i knew how i sat down and i wept i fasted and prayed before the god of hell i didn't know what to do with all this mess the report was too much for me to handle the brokenness was beyond my ability to process and to confront so i prayed and i fasted and i interceded and i cried out to the lord i processed everything i heard and i processed it in prayer i wonder if sometimes we could just put the phone down and begin to pray and process everything we're seeing and everything we're reading in prayer that god would help us to have the right mindset and in doing that along with daniel he invited the god of heaven to intervene to act in light of the reports he was hearing everything he was seeing he invited god into the equation he recognized how broken it was yeah but he also recognized there's a healer of brokenness and he recognized there was a restorer in the middle of chaos and he recognized that the light of the world could step into darkness and instead of resorting to hopelessness and the abandonment of his world into the hands of darkness and and the enemy daniel nehemiah recognized there was still an answer to it all i know how hopeless it looks over there i've seen the accounts i've read it all but there's still a solution to it all there's still a hope in a future there's still a god they're still a restorer they're still a king they're still a healer there's still a lord and a deliverer so in unison in a line of everything they were seeing they look to the god who isaiah says sits on the circle of the earth they look to it god who john 14 says is the way the truth and the life and they turn to a god whose psalm says is the great king above all gods they didn't didn't gloss over what was happening in front of them but they didn't gloss over how great he was either isaiah 44 and 20 or 40 and 20 i just referenced it says it's he who sits above the circle of the earth its inhabitants are like grasshoppers he stretches out the heavens like a curtain he spreads him out like a tent touch well and he brings the princes to nothing he makes the judges of the earth useless he's not bound by our limitations he can do it all verse chronicles 29 11 david says yours oh lord is the greatness the power and the glory the victory and the majesty for all that is in heaven and earth it's yours i know what i'm seeing on earth but i'm going to look to heaven and recognize that what happens on earth you're still in control of it yours is the kingdom of the lord you are exalted as head overall both riches and honor come from you you reign over all in your hand is power and might in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to this is the god they were praying to he's still the answer now just like he was the answer then he's still the refuge now just like he was then he is still our help now just like he was helped then psalm 124 8 our help is in the name of the lord who made heaven and earth it's his name and if he made our world he can help our world if he formed our world he can redeem our world if he spoke our world into existence he can speak the peace of our world into existence he's the god we're calling on today and i will remind you that he is not overwhelmed by what's happening in your world or the world as a whole god is not befuddled he's not wondering what in the world am i going to do with this he made the world in the first place so god is not overcome or overwhelmed by what's happening in the world colossians 1 and 15 he jesus is the image of the invisible god the firstborn over all creation for by him all things were created that are in heaven that are on earth visible and invisible whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers all all things were created through and for him he's before all things and in him all things consist he's the head of the body the church who is the beginning the firstborn from the dead that in all things he may have the preeminence paul paints a similar picture in acts 17 he's talking to people on mars hill who didn't know his god he said therefore the one whom you worship without knowing this is the god i proclaim to you and it's the same god i'm proclaiming to apc this morning god who made the world and everything in it since he's lord of heaven and earth he doesn't dwell in temples made with hands nor is he worshiped with men's hands as though he needed anything since he gives to all life breath in all things he's made from one blood every nation of men that dwell on the face of the earth and he's determined their pre-appointed times in the boundaries of their dwellings so they should seek the lord in the hope that they may grow for him and find him though he's not far from any one of us for in him we live and move and have our being

this is the god we're going to pray to in just a moment this is the god the world needs this is the god who sustains us this is the god who holds it all in his hand and with that in mind his greatness and his power and view daniel nehemiah pray they turn their face towards the god of heaven like we're going to do in a moment their response was one of prayer intercession fasting because they recognize that their prayers did work and they recognized that their prayer and their intercession invited that great god who i just talked about to step into their worlds and into the darkness that confronted them their prayers were more than just another drop in the bucket let me help someone here today who's about to lift up their voice and speak the name of jesus your prayers even for a great big world are not just another drop in the bucket but when you start to lift your voice as a child of god that god hears your voice in response to your prayer daniel started praying and angels started moving and and heaven started to mobilize it and the enemy started to back up and had to shift positions and figure out what daniel started praying and about a hundred years later another man was part of the answer to his prayer nehemiah started praying and king started acting and and favor started flowing provision started moving governors started acting when you pray and when you lift your voice like we're going to do in a moment god hears it god hears the prayers of his people but this paul reminds us at the beginning of his lesson this morning he just spoke a word of encouragement that whatever's happening across the the world that god is still in control and that we can pray and that god hears those prayers so with that in mind this morning it's a little different but i invite you just to be led of the holy ghost

i want you to stand with me altar call number one we're going to pray over our world we're going to pray over a couple different things i'd like us to pray three different areas i'm going to give you some instructions on how to do that and what we're going to do i'll remind you that when you pray god's going to hear you god's going to help you god's going to help us to know what to pray and when you pray god's going to i just early this week i felt specifically that we just needed to pause in the middle of this service and spend some time calling on the name of the lord and when you do that god's gonna i want you to be led of the holy ghost and if you feel like stepping out do whatever you do in a normal altar call and i'll remind you of the stakes before i give you some instructions i'll say any of this for emotional appeal to try to mess with your emotions just to remind you of what we're praying for this morning i already mentioned the report i saw just today over 80 children caught up in this conflict devastating reports i saw a picture of a mom and a dad running into a hospital with a little baby what i heard about one year old it's my wes it's how old he is this is what stern me today that baby didn't make it bombing victim my world needs you i know i'm feeling as a dad i feel the reeling in my heart and as a human i feel the shock but i think beyond that spirit is stirring us this morning because we can get so desensitized and we look at these things and we forget that there's people that god loves and cares about on the other end i want us to pray today for the nation of ukraine and russia the leaders the citizens there we're going to pray for the moses family the missionaries that are there we're also going to pray for the tomebs the national pastor they are right in the middle in the heart of the conflict the tomef family they decide to stay to be with the church there i want to pray i'm going to ask all these young people just to step out of where you are right now to begin to come i want you guys to stand right across the front come on up they're going to be a visual representation of what we're praying for there's young men that they're this age young women their whole lives have been turned on in we're gonna pray and god's gonna use us and help us i feel the weight of intercession i'm gonna invite anyone else if you want to step out or you just want to find a place to pray whatever you want to do we're just going to follow the holy ghost and if i don't get to preach anything else that's all right god will have done his purpose i wonder if you just begin to pray right now would you stretch your hands or step out of where you are if i make we're just going to make this an altar call right now let's pray in the name of jesus can we go to prayer right now church oh god this is what we're supposed to do lord this is what your people do we call on your name we speak your name lord over that nation of ukraine we know that our world needs you we know that our world needs you i'm praying for young men for young women lord whose lives are turned on in and they would somehow find you if they'd find hope if they'd find restoration oh someone left your voice an intercession i believe we just entered that vein of prayer and god's gonna help us and he's gonna hear us oh lord we pray your peace we speak your peace over that nation we speak your peace over that region god we're praying that men and women wouldn't just find shelter and physical safety but they would find shelter in you if they would find safety in you they would find a refuge in you today oh lord we don't neglect the plight of others but we're stirred today on behalf of those who need you on behalf of those in this conflict and those in this war we trust in you that you know what's best for them we're asking that your will be accomplished we're asking that you would move and work on their behalf hear the prayer of your people o lord hear the lord forgive o lord heal oh lord listen and act this morning you're still praying continue on i'm going to ask this section over here if you just focus in on our city our staff was driving back from a staff lunch the other day there was a memorial set up in a parking lot i asked sister christy what's that memorial there for someone was murdered in that lot just another reminder our city the reminder of the brokenness that man has no solution for that we need him i wonder if you begin to lift your voice all across this place focus in on this section again just a visual representation of what we're praying over our city today oh god here oh lord listen to that hear us for the city called by your name the city we've been called to reach the neighbors in the community we've been called to reach we pray lord for our city of saint louis we pray for every street every home every household we pray for every individual and somehow some way they would be drawn to you if they'd be pointed in your direction that they would find hope and restoration in you oh that you'd put us in their path oh god help us lord to reach this place to reach this city that we call home we need you this morning we're calling on your name we're interceding on behalf of others we're interceding on behalf of others who don't yet know you they've never received your spirit they haven't been changed by your power but we move any further we're going to pray over our field our neighbors and community i prayed every sunday that what happens in this room would spill beyond this place and into our field and into our homes i want this section here and even this middle one would you begin to pray over our field right now pray over your neighbors pray over those around you let's join him in prayer oh god we intercede for our field we intercede for our community for our schools lord we know that there's brokenness and confusion in our schools and colleges and college campuses so we call on your name we call on the name of jesus and you would move that you would work that you would help oh god maybe we can't see it maybe we don't know all their names but we know that you do so i'm praying lord for neighbors i'm praying jesus for disciples people that we're going to come across that you would heal hearts and lives and families over our field today cover our field this morning

what we're doing today i believe it's apostolic it's we're looking beyond ourselves and we're looking to others god's helping us and leading and guiding us i don't believe he's done i want to bring your attention to one other thing if you want to find a place you don't have to go back to your seat if you don't like you can stand by and sit somewhere i won't be too long we know this morning that our world needs him it's in dire need of jesus we recognize it a lot of recent events that more than ever our world our collective world needs him this morning i also want to take note of the fact that not only does the world at large need him but my world needs him and yours as well our world needs jesus we know that and our individual worlds need jesus i know this could come off as marginal in comparison to what others in the world are facing right now but i believe the lord is drawn to a broken and contrite heart maybe just as much as he's drawn to a broken and desolate nation in other words he's not just concerned with the world as a whole but he's also concerned with your world in with mine this is why he'd stop in the middle of processions of thousands of people in order to step into the world and into the brokenness of just one person this is why he paused on the way to jairus's crashing world the death of his daughter in order to heal the wounds in the world of the woman with the issue of blood and this is why the heartfelt cry of bartimaeus stopped him in his tracks jesus thou son of david have mercy on me that meant as much to him as the scores of people that crowded around him this is also why my heart of late has been stirred by the plight of not only the world as a whole but the conditions and the brokenness of the worlds that are represented in this room this morning because make no mistake just because jesus is involved in working in the world as a whole that does not mean that he has forgotten about your world and about your need today and we see the brokenness of our world and those around us but there are also some who've come here today and not to single you out but if we could see the condition of your heart and your life and your family it would look just as broken as those walls of jerusalem and just as desolate as that city in nehemiah's day there are families here facing more weight and brokenness than you ever have and you can rightly say today with a broken heart and through a broken voice that yes jesus the world as a whole needs you but also my world needs you today i don't neglect the devastation of the world at large but my world could also use you this morning and i don't compare my suffering with that of others but my family's hurting right now and my heart is breaking right now but the risk of alienating others in the room who aren't in the same state and condition i feel like i've been sent today for some families for some individuals this morning who like daniel and nehemiah are observing the conditions of the world they're observing the conditions of their life and they're finding no man-made hope or solution they're desperate wondering what god is going to do i believe the lord has been remarkably specific of late i told someone before service in the office it's like every week i i felt come or felt to come in and just go after another group of people another person and this morning it's those whose worlds are crashing are those whose worlds are desolate are those whose worlds are in need of jesus and i felt yes that that stirring for the world as a as a whole but i also felt a stirring for some individual families and for some individual lives because it's tough to pray over the world as a whole when your world is shattering and crashing right in front of you and i've come to let someone know that i believe god is ready to heal your world today as well he's ready to be invited into your world of hurt in your world of brokenness where he does some of his best work he's ready to step into a life armed with peace armed with healing in order to repair the broken portions of your heart john 16 and 33 these things have i spoken to you that in me you may have peace in the world you'll have tribulation but be of good cheer he says i have overcome the world not just the world at large but i've also overcome your world i can do anything in your world as well john 12 he said i've come as a light into the world and whoever believes in me should not live in darkness you don't have to live in that darkness you don't have to live in the conditions you came in with you can be free of that you can step into his marvelous light you can be free of any addiction you can be free of any bondage you can be free of anything that's ensnaring you or your family john 14 peace i leave with you my peace i give to you not as the world gives do i give to you let not your heart be troubled someone neither let it be afraid because he's got something better to give you than what the world can give you i believe he's come with peace and i believe you come with strength it's made perfect in your weakness today he's come with a name that's a strong tower and the righteous can run to it and he's come with healing that's been purchased on your behalf i believe god's come with intention today because he sees what some of you are seeing sees brokenness sees desolation sees the weariness that some families are wearing sees the storms some individuals are battling just the past week alone i pray with at least four families if they're here today don't mention this to embarrass anyone but four families whose lives in a week's time have been shattered everything up turn on in started those prayers like many of you would in the same spot lord we don't understand why but we trust you we don't get it god we don't know why this is happening but we trust you some worlds are seemingly crashing and falling apart in front of some individuals and families very eyes it's amazing what can happen in a week's time but even still i stand alongside those individuals and i stand with job this morning as well this is what he said he said i look ahead i don't know where he is i'm looking overseas and i'm trying to figure out where he is but then i'm looking at my own life i'm looking ahead and i don't see what he's doing i look behind me and i can't perceive him i look to the left and to the right i don't know where he is but then he says but he still knows the way that i take i can't find him right now and everything seems to be crashing and falling apart but somehow he still knows the way that i take and when i've been tried i'll come forth it's cold and we stand along with job even at the end of it all he says this in chapter 42 and verse 2 after god had helped him he said now i know you can do everything that no purpose of yours will be withheld from you i'm believing someone's going to be able to say that maybe you can't say it today because everything's crashing around you but someday you'll say now i know you can do everything you can do anything you can heal my family you can touch my body you can help me and even when my world has fallen apart like david's did when he lost that baby boy or jobs did when he lost his family or daniels did when he lost his city or joseph's did when he lost his freedom or hezekiah did when he lost his health or the shunammite woman did when she lost your child you get the point even when my world has fallen apart i'm going to set my face towards you i'm going to seek you i could go to any other answer i could go to any other place but i'm going to set my face towards you i'm going to look to heaven and i'm going to trust you and i'm gonna walk with you and i'm gonna pursue you all the more i'm not gonna go looking for something else or some other answer or solution when i know that you are the answer and you are the help for my world david said in psalm 61 from the end of the earth i cry to you and when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that's higher than i for you've been a shelter for me a strong tower from the enemy so when my world is crumbling and everything's falling apart i'm going to go to him and when i'm overwhelmed there's some families that are overwhelmed today you don't have answers but when i'm overwhelmed i'm going to know and recognize that he's not overwhelmed he made my world in the first place he holds the world at large and he holds mine as well so even when i don't know what to do and i'm overcome god's not scratching his head wondering what am i going to do in this situation all he has to do is speak the word and peace comes in your life or healing into your life the psalmist echoes david he said in psalm 121 he said i lift up my eyes to my health from where comes my health my help comes from the lord who made heaven and earth he made it all including your world and your family and he can help and fix your family it can help your heart this morning

so if you came looking for answers today you came to the right place so i believe the answer came looking for you today the sense of got as we stand to our feet again say god has heard the cry of some individuals and god has heard the cry of some families and god has seen every tear god has recorded every moment of it he's heard every prayer and i just feel like i've been sent to some specific people today who know and recognize what this title says and my world needs you that i need you this morning that i came with a need for you just a moment we're going to pray i'm going to seek the face of god again i mentioned a couple minutes ago i know i might be alienating some because maybe this message doesn't apply to you today maybe your world isn't falling apart and i thank god for that but i don't believe any of us has alienated this morning because if the prayer we're about to pray isn't for you it's for others so we're going to mobilize on behalf of others families that need god's help individuals that are desperate all of us have had those moments when life just seems to crash in on us i shared a couple of those moments a couple weeks ago my own family so this morning i invite you to pray for some of these families that are going to be coming like you would want someone to pray for you in that moment i'm gonna invite any family that would like to begin to make their way forward or any individual that just needs god's help but i also want to ask and ask my wife if she would stand here for sister danita drost we're going to continue to believe and pray for her i'm asked kim and sister karen and jesse if they would to step out received some devastating news this last week about her mom she said she told sister karen she said i feel like the lord brought me to this church at the right time he did god's gonna help our families this morning there are some who've walked in today and you are wearing the weight of the world on your shoulders and you just need jesus to step into your world i will invite anyone that wants to come whether you're going to come pray for this family or you're going to come and ask for god's help in your own life just begin to step out of where you are don't hesitate begin to come right now and god's going to help us as you begin to come we're going to pray in just a moment just stand in this altar space any family anyone that would need prayer i want to share one thing with you before we pray i feel the way to god's glory here god has invested in this moment god's going to help us we're about to pray for sister drost we heard a report i shared in bible class she had a 5 life expectancy it went up to 30 percent and then went up to 50 she's breathing on her own she's almost out of that sedation medicine and a week ago they had left her pretty much to see what would happen with her life if he can do it for sister drost god can do it for you they're already praying i wonder if we'd mobilize as a church if you're not praying for yourself would you make this prayer about others or find a family that needs prayer

this is our altar call this morning would you begin to move and pray in the name of jesus oh my world needs you my family needs you oh jesus we're praying and believing for alberta we're praying and believing and you'd cover her and help her lord that cancer is no match for you and the doctors don't have answers and we don't either but we put her in your hands today oh god we put her in your hands this morning believing for the full the full recovery of sister drost oh god oh jesus i encourage you you stop praying for one family would you go and find another you see the desperation that's represented in this room today god's mobilizing his church this is what we do would you go and pray for someone if you haven't yet or if you're done praying for a family go and lay hands on someone else this is what we do church you're not alone hallelujah show me your face fill up this space i can't escape fill me show me your face my world needs you right now fill me bring with a sound that points us to you right now erase substitutes right now it's what i see and god please let us show me your this face fill me fall down and right please show me your place afraid fill me god is show me i can escape fill me now power fall down which one i see and god please my world needs to rise foreign happy oh is

oh jesus you respond right now to that word we've heard thank you jesus oh we respond to it lord we're gonna bring you to them oh god oh we're going to do our part lord thank you jesus for your help thank you for your word it brings clarity o god we thank you jesus for all of those who are guests with us today not only do we believe in the power of the name of jesus but we believe the bible talks about the gifts of the spirit and what we just experience message in tongues as the lord helps us falls in line with the last thing i want us to pray about don't worry i'm not going to preach a sermon unless you want me to i won't the lord spoke to us just now about what nehemiah experienced the passage i read nehemiah starts to pray lord we need your help we need you my world needs you and in the middle of his prayer and his intercession nehemiah becomes god's answer to his own prayer my world needs you okay you go our world needs him which inherently means a world needs the church and us we start to pray god send laborers into the harvest and we don't get surprised when god says okay you're one of them bring me to them and bring them to me thank god for every life who's been brought here today to meet with him we're gonna go bring him to them as well i want us to pray about our part in bringing jesus into our world because i believe there's calling in the room today the lord just affirmed it god's calling some of us yeah your world's broken and i need your help to fix it would you lift your voice just right now and pray for god's help lord we just heard your word uh we just heard your word and you're calling for us to go to the field into the harvest to be laborers lord because there's others who don't know your love and they don't know your peace they don't know your grace they don't know the experience they haven't experienced your power and your your forgiveness lord to this morning we pray about our part as you call us into the world we know that our world needs you which means that our world needs us lord to spread the gospel to share the good news to share who you are to share what it means to be yours we're asking for your help this morning as you call and you commission us to go and bring you to them in the name of jesus
