Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Boundaries: The Limits We Set for Ourselves

  • Boundaries are the limits or guidelines an individual puts in place to coach them or keep them in alignment.
  • The preacher's daughter would ride her bike back and forth to the boundary line in front of the house, but no further — her friend lived down the road, but it was too close to the main road.
  • Psychologists describe personal space in widening circles: about 25 feet is public space, 12 feet is social space, 4 feet begins personal space, and a foot and a half is for those closest to you.
  • Many of the limits we live by are set by culture or tradition — what somebody else thinks — and limits have their place, because we could be in trouble without them.

Jesus Colors Outside the Lines

  • Running Jesus's life in parallel to what we have established: Jesus colors outside the lines — he crossed cultural boundaries and was criticized for sitting down to fellowship with people others would not socialize with.
  • His answer was that those who are whole have no need of a physician.
  • Peter is introduced as one of those people: all in for Jesus and all about his Father's business, but hard-nosed, with some things God still had to work out of him.

Peter and Cornelius: The Vision on the Housetop

  • In the book of Acts the 10th chapter we find a story: Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian band, a Roman soldier who loved God, prayed, and gave alms to the people in his community.
  • Peter was on top of a housetop praying — fasting, getting hungry while they cooked downstairs — when he fell into a trance and saw a sheet let down holding unclean animals.
  • God told the hungry Peter to rise, kill, and eat; tradition set in, and Peter refused — calling it common and unclean, something he could not eat.

Scriptures: Acts 10

What God Hath Cleaned, That Call Not Thou Common

  • "Let's look at that verse 15": the voice spoke again the second time — "What God hath cleaned, that call not thy common" — don't call it common, because God has cleansed it.
  • God had already spoken to Cornelius that Peter would come to his house and share the gospel with him, and the men Cornelius sent were waiting at the door to pick him up.
  • At the house, Cornelius bowed to worship him and Peter refused it: "I am a man just like you are — get up; I am a servant of the King, the Lord Jesus Christ."
  • Peter admitted it was not right or common for him to be there, yet God had put the thing together — God wants us to work outside the boundaries and outside the things we find common.

Scriptures: Acts 10:15

Step Outside: Fresh Eyes and No Limit on God

  • We argue with ourselves over preconceived ideas of how things should be, but our ideas can become our blinders; God is asking us today to take the blinders off and step outside, simply step outside, and see what God will do.
  • Manufacturing brings in people from outside sources — fresh eyes — to see what those inside normally cannot see; God works the same way when we get outside our own limits.
  • Peter understood the Torah and all 613 of the mosaic laws, but God did not like the nest he had made and began to shake it up — sometimes our blocks and preconceived ideas are why miracles, healings, and signs and wonders are not flowing freely.
  • When someone says they have a word from God, listen — God can speak through an individual you would never have thought he would speak through.
  • We need limits and we need those things in our life, but when it comes to the things of God, you cannot limit God — you cannot put a limit on God.

The Widow: The Miracle Before the Death Sentence

  • In First Kings the 17th chapter we find a story: Elijah had been kept by a brook God placed for him — fed, clothed, and given water — but the brook dried up in the famine.
  • God sent him to a widow He had already prepared for him; God prepares things down the road for us, and all He needs is for us to step outside.
  • At the gates of the city she was gathering sticks; he asked first for a little water, and then, while she was going, for a parcel of bread — a request that bombarded her outside her comfort zone.
  • All she had was a little meal and a little oil; she was gathering two sticks to cook one last cake for herself and her son, eat it, and die.
  • Your death sentence could have a miracle right before it — some of us have already written our death sentence and put the period at the end, but God is the miracle maker who can change the end of the story.
  • What was asked of her was not much in the hands of God, but to her it was a lot; pray big, and pray with all your heart — her meal and oil just kept flowing, and she had enough.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 17

Step Outside the Boundary You Have Preconceived

  • The challenge of the message: are we going to allow preconceived ideas to continue to run our lives and shape us?
  • Open the windows a little wider and see what God will do if you step outside of that boundary you have already preconceived.

More About Peter Than Cornelius

  • Cornelius had done everything he knew to do — he was praying, seeking God, and giving offerings — but Cornelius was still lost.
  • God sent Peter, of all people — stuck and still stubborn, his theology wrapped up in Jewish culture and law, still kicking against the pricks — and a prayer meeting changed things; Peter began to see differently.
  • This was more about Peter than Cornelius: Cornelius received salvation, but God was straightening Peter out, bringing him to realize this thing is bigger than his idea of it.
  • The kingdom of God is bigger than what we have right here in this room.

All In or None: A Cornelius Is Waiting for You

  • Some are standing where the widow stood — a vision, a dream, or a miracle not yet come to pass, with the end of the story already written in their minds.
  • The answer is not death; the miracle is right before you, and all it takes is surrender — give that last little bit and take the leap of faith: all in or none.
  • This week's charge: step outside of your comfort zone — do something out of character — and witness to somebody.
  • Every one of us has a Cornelius waiting on us; go across the street or across town, somewhere you don't normally go, and just say, "I'm here because God said" — and God will take the conversation from there.
  • The preacher points to someone who stepped out that very day and was baptized in Jesus name, tying it to Peter's question in the Cornelius story: what would hinder it?

God bless you you may be seated I feel very clear on what God is speaking today thank you brother donon for leading us that in that direction U just gives you confirmation when you when you are feeling something in your heart and some somebody else comes through and then somebody else comes by and then somebody else and then it's like okay God I get the picture amen amen boundaries boundaries are those limits or guidelines that an individual may put in place to coach them or keep

them in alignment boundaries if there was anybody today that I could tell you a little bit about boundaries and just as a comical I have a daughter that sits at the back of the room I won't tell you which one it is but she sets the back of the room and uh we were in between pastores and I was uh living uh in a place uh my hometown and um we had kind of fixed this little place place up that we had and and we had

a street and it was actually it ran it was a dead end uh road that dead end so there wasn't a whole lot of traffic and uh so but but we allowed the kids to get out and ride their bikes and we we set in place places where they could go and no further this is where you go this is where you can't go any further than that well this young young lady that sits in the back of the room um she would take her bike

and she had probably a good quarter mile that she could ride in front of the house you know from one place to the other she would go to the boundary and she would go back and forth on the road this way now in her defense uh right down the road from there I'm sure she was probably trying to get the attention of her friend and uh she couldn't go any further because her friend lived down there but it was too close to the main road and

we just made that a boundary but the more that I thought on boundaries I thought also uh we all set personal boundaries there are things that we set in our life there are personal boundaries that we have set in place and how many you have those personal boundaries I hope you do uh because uh you could be in trouble if you don't but I I was looking up and just you know as we start digging out something that God gives us uh preachers sometimes tend to

chase rabbits or that's what we call it or squirrel or whatever you know we go in different directions but I I begin to think about uh that personal space and so I decided since you know we had came out of 2020 you know there's a lot of boundaries that was put in place during that time there's a lot of things has been developed since then uh how many you remember walking up and talking to people through plexiglass you remember that um but there's a lot of

things been put into place so I looked at some uh different we like we like to look at what psychologists are saying and so um but personal spaces the theory on personal spaces and now this is what they're giving us that at 25 feet that is your public space you're talking that's public out there that's people that are strangers to you those are people that you know you just you don't have any kind of acquaintance with but 25 5 foot then it moved on in a

little closer to 12T and that is your social space that is those people that you have become acquainted with maybe colleagues things of that nature but that is 12 foot some that's a pretty good distance but but we understand that then they moved in a little closer to 4 foot and at that 4 foot Mark that is your personal that starts beginning the beginning of your personal space those are your friends your family uh those are those are uh close friends but not too close then

they moved in to up to a foot and a half and those are those that are close to you now I say all of that to to say this is there are parameters that is set that we set there are things that we have chosen in our lives that this is as far as I'm going this is these are my limits and sometimes those self-limits could actually be set by culture uh it could be set by just tradition I mean you go to some some countries

and you you have a tradition that you do here in the US you're not going to see that tradition why because it's set by culture there are things that we set in place and those are simply set by what somebody else thinks and and and and as we look at that and we look at that in the eyes of of our walk with God there are many things that we do that has become more of a culture thing right can can I make that clear today

that there are many of you that uh and then and we do we EST establish how that we should look and we establish how that we should per you know how we are to present ourselves to somebody we we establish those things but as I I studied today in uh the last few days and thought on these things I I began to think about the fact that when I started running Jesus and his life in parallel to what we have established Jesus colors Outside the Lines

folks he he colors Outside the Lines he is he is not one that actually would as a matter of fact he he was criticized quite a few times because he crossed cultureal boundaries there's a group of people sitting in a house and they are they are not of the Jewish culture and their their if they were they were not of a belief that you would normally want to socialize with and so Jesus goes in the middle of them and sits down and begins to talk to

them and begins to have fellowship with them brother Rob and there was words begin to vibrate through the place what is he doing why is he doing that did don't he know that they're they're Pharisees and and they got all those other Z's and Jesus simply works his way his word back up where it came from and say that those that are whole they have no need of a physician well Jesus kind of checks that out of the way but still there were things and thank

you brother Jon for bringing it out that Peter was one of those people that that he was he was all in it for Jesus he was all about Jesus and he was all about being about his father's business and as a matter of fact to the point that if we were to look at the personalities of each and I've done that in the past looked at the personalities of each of the disciples he was one of those that he was just so hard-nosed and he just

I don't know anybody that probably got along with him but that same that same person Peter there was some things that happened and I I want to take your attention and we will read just portions of the scripture but in the book of Acts the 10th chapter we we find a a story there that Peter is he has uh been praying and there is this man named Cornelius Cornelius is the scripture tells us that Cornelius is a he's a centurion of the Italian band which he

was a Roman soldier uh he but s but loved God he loved God and he had heard of Jesus and he had heard of of what Jesus was all about and Cornelius was one of those that that he would pray and God begins to show Cornelius things and he would even give an arms he would take arms and give an arms to those that were in the community because he's just doing all he can do but our scripture shows us that that Simon Peter he's on

top of a roof house and he's praying and if you know anything about Jewish culture uh they would they would find themselves a place to pray where they could look toward the East a and if it was anybody that understood Jewish culture Peter was one of those he understood that and so Peter is there praying and he's been fasting and he's getting hungry and they're cooking downstairs and they're trying to get ready to eat and Peter's probably uh smelling this smell and he gets hungry and

and and so in that mindset God says you know what I'm going to I need to show you some things the scripture tells us that as Peter begins to pray and along those same just earlier God was speaking to a man named Cornelius he's in he's in he's seeing something happened too and so Peter begins to pray and he sees this Vision the scripture says he falls into a trance and he begins to see this vision verse 9 and he be starts seeing things that's happening

and God begins to let down this sheep Four Corners held and as he let it down in the middle of that Peter is hungry remember that and all of this these animals are there in the middle and they are they are of the unclean if you understand Jewish belief anything that has a forked ho you don't eat that and so all of these unclean animals are put there in front of wild beast the scripture even says and right in the middle of that God stops him

and says Peter you're hungry stop kill eat and what happens to to Peter tradition has just set in what he's been taught has just set in and he immediately says oh no Jesus are are God says this and let's let's look at that verse 15 The Voice spake unto him again the second time it says he Peter's already said oh no I'm not doing this because I I know that this is all unclean and he even calls it just prior to that in verse 14 he

calls it what does he call it he said it's common it's unclean I can't eat of that and then God begins to speak to him in verse 15 and says what God hath cleaned that call not thy common don't call it common why because I've cleansed it now again I want to take you back to Peter's story Peter has has been been praying and he's been seeking after God God's been showing him things God still he's still working on Peter and I am sure without a

doubt even though he's heard the voice of God he's probably still arguing with God saying god well hold on just a minute hold on just a minute you know we we can't do this and at the same time the Lord begins to talk to him about what he's going be doing what I need you to do is I've already spoke to a guy and his name is Cornelius and I've already shared with him that you're going to be coming to his house and you're going to

be sharing with him the gospel you're going to be showing him the things that he needs to be doing and Peter's called in a he's called in a predicament here he's just's like well and by the time Peter gets down to where he supposed to be guess who's waiting on him those guys that's come to pick him up those guys that now I I would imagine now he you remember now uh Cornelius is a soldier he is a Roman soldier but and I'm sure whatever guys

he had they were probably in uniform so you got these people waiting at the door saying uh we're here to pick up not Simon the T the tan we want that other guy Simon Peter Peter gladly goes with them I don't know how that happened again I know God's working on him but he begins to take his path he says you know what God's just showed up and he's told me that that what he calls clean not to not to call it common he tells me

that that I I need to be here so I'm going to be here scripture says that when he got to the house Cornelius has accepted him as a matter of fact the scripture tells us that he bows down he wants to worship Peter and Peter says no no no no no get get up I I am a man just like you are get up off of your off of your knees no I I I am a I am a servant of the king which is the

Lord Jesus Christ oh Hallelujah I am a servant of Jesus Christ and he has sent me here to talk to you now I don't know what was going on in Peter's mind and Cornelius the same time because the scripture tells us that Simon even told told him he said you know it's not right for me to be here so that tells me that Peter is still kicking at the idea he's he's there I'm not really supposed to be here and it's not common for us to

be together it's not one of those things that we're supposed to be sharing and and and inviting people into our homes but yet God has put this thing together I I want to get you a picture here and I hope that I've drawn this clear that God wants us to work outside of those boundaries he wants us to work outside of the things that we find as common he wants to show us that that those things that are outside are the things that God likes to

work with you see some of us sit here today and we've got preconceived ideas hello I'll leftt my hand on that sometimes I I I I do I argue with myself sometimes because I got this idea in my head that this is the way that it should be and and and it's really not because it's not it's not the way that God wants it to be and and we all have those things we have ideal in our head just as Peter had in his head that

that here's a Roman soldier here's a man that is a a gentile you know Gentiles and Jews don't get along here here's here's the fact that that you know this guy is you know he he he could very very well I don't know that Peter how deep Peter went with that but I do know this that God spoke to Peter and God spoke to Cornelius and said this needs to happen and when God begins to work and when we can learn to get Beyond those Outer

Limits that we have set those boundaries that we have even put in place if we could get ourselves on the outside of the situation and start looking one of the things that we do in in manufacturing in in in our world today is we ask for people from outside sources to come in and those people from outside sources they will look that what we call Fresh eyes how many you ever heard of that it's fresh eyes it's somebody that can see things that we normally don't

see it's somebody that's able to look at something and say you know what this this is what really needs to be going on here this is what needs to be happening and God is asking us today and I really feel this in my spirit that he's asking us today to step outside simply step outside and see what God will do in your life whatever it may be that you are troubled about step outside you see Peter had his ideas of what that Redemption story should look

like didn't he he had his own ideas of how that should look like he never not one time thought that a that one of these guys from the outside should be coming in we're talking about Crossing culture lines we're talking about crossing crossing those lines of of that we have set those preconceived ideals that we may have God help me with my preconceived ideal that I see those things as something that God you're working on me you're working some things out of me you're working some

things out of my life and you're trying to get me to a place that I understand I encourage you take those blinders off that the world has put on there even yourself I'll be honest that's one of the things that we do sometimes is we blind ourselves with these ideas our ideas become our blinders and when we can't see past the our ideas and we see what God is doing help us God to see outside make it clear to me Lord Jesus make it clear you

see Peter understood the Torah that was one that he carried he understood what the law says he understands what was to be said and what how many you remember how many laws was it that mosaic laws 613 and all of those he understood what those should be he understood what those laws was all about and now after hammering those things into my life and and and making it clear this is the way I walk this is the way I talk this is the way that I

do things then all of a sudden God begins to show up and he says you know what I don't like the nest that you've made I don't like it and I'm going to shake it up a little bit and he begins to work on us and say Hey I want you to think about this or maybe he puts something in your life during a time that you're going through and he says I want you to think about this or or he puts you in a situation

where where that you have no no reason to stay where you are hello that just spoke to somebody I'm reminded that sometimes the re reason that we are in the the situations that we're in today is because we have yet to understand that it's God not us our Miracles the healings that we want to see take place those signs and wonders that we want to see in operation why can't we see them why AR they in operations freely and and and flowing freely sometimes it could

be the fact that we've got blocks in the way we've got things that we have preconceived ideas well this is the way that that's supposed to be this is the way that we need this to happen let me tell you something anytime a person walks in and they say they've got a word from God for me I listen now I do understand that we can judge that according to the word of God I understand that God will make it clear to us but I listen why

because I have seen in my lifetime I've seen people walk in that that I I would have I would have never thought that that would have come from that individual never thought that God would have spoke through that individual but God speaks it and I say whoa God all right and I take a step back I I I I want you to get this clear is sometimes we have got we have put on ourselves those Place those limits and those things that we put in place

and yes we need limits and we need to put those things in our life but there are some things when it comes to the things of God is you you cannot limit God you cannot put a limit on God I was reminded of this when I begin to think about the Miracles and signs and wonders in First Kings the second uh 17th chapter first sing Kings 17 we find a story here where the prophet of God Elijah has been taken because of the Famine of the

land he's been given a brook that God has placed for him and he sits by this Brook and God feeds him and he clothes him and he gives him water and he gives him all of these things now the brook has dried up and God tells him he says says I want you to go to a place I want you to go to this place called zarapa he says I have spoken to and I have prepared someone remember we just got through talking about one encounter

God prepares things down the road for you remember that he's already got a plan in place he already understands that all he needs you to do is step outside that's all he needs is you to step outside so the prophet goes to zarapa and when he gets to the gates of the city the scripture says that there is a woman there in verse 10 she is there Gathering sticks and the prophet says this to her behold what he he he sees this wind woman he he

says could you give me just a little water take take a minute he asked for a little water yes the scripture says that as she was going to get it what happened what happened to her she is bombarded with a question and something requested of her that would cause her to go outside of her comfort zone she is bombarded with the question and while you're going would you just bring me a parcel of bread in your hand now water was okay brother Tim but now he's

asked for bread and she begins to give this explanation of how that she was getting ready she says I I don't have much she says I don't have that all I have is a little bit of meal all I have is just a little bit of oil and she say as a matter of fact I'm gathering these two sticks it's interesting how that she had two sticks remember God's in detail he said all I was going to do I was going to break this up start

me a little fire cook a little cake my son and I was going to eat and then what did she say we were going to eat it and we were going to die I I I I want to get this through to somebody is your death sentence there could be a miracle right before it I I I feel that very strongly in my spirit that some of us has already written our death sentence and God's saying your Miracle is right there and what he's asking of

you is just it's really not much but in in the hands of God it's not much but to her it was a lot we see our situations and those those things that God is ready to do but the truth is we've already finished the sentence we've already put the period at the end of dead God help me and I hope that you can get this today help me Lord Jesus that I can take and see the miracle that you have for my life and not see

the end of the story but see something happening in that story that is going to change my life forever but all it takes for us is us to step outside of just step outside of what you have already been given those limits that we put on ourselves those things that we put in place yes thank God for limits at times but I want you to understand something when you begin to pray would you pray big would you pray with all your heart and say God I

know that in life yes that is the that's what's the end results but I know that you're the miracle maker you're the one that can actually change all of this you're the one that can make this hole we go on to find that story that that widow woman she had meal in her barrels and she had she had all enough and it just kept on flowing all it takes from us is us to be willing to step outside of step outside of where we are in

our lives step outside of and say God I don't know but it it may be going against some people's grain today this may be something that rubs somebody wrong but I'm going to step outside of I'm going to take it just a little further and I'm going to take it just a little further down the road because I know God I know that you have a plan for my life oh would you give God praise right now I thank you Jesus I thank you Jesus Hallelujah

Hallelujah the question the challenges that will be in our life is are we going to allow those preconceived ideal to continue to run our lives are we going to allow those things to continue to to shape Us in just what what is there and what we feel is that's all I need that's all I need is God no open up the windows a little wider and just see what God will do if you'll allow yourself to go outside of that boundary that you have already preconceived

would you step outside of that today I I want to challenge you today step outside of those V those things step outside of those places whenever it comes down to it whatever it may be I I I I I I think this is for someone today th those things that we have put in place are we willing to go beyond those boundaries are we willing to step out of those boundaries do we have it in us today you say well I I you know I don't

I don't know the lord well Cornelius was the same way he had done everything he he knew to do he was praying he was seeking God he was doing everything he knew to do he knew he knew how to pray and he was giving and offerings he was doing all of those things but guess what carnus was still lost and God sent a man that was just so stuck up and still stubborn Peter of all peoples comes to his house and Peter says I don't know

what this means but I know that God showed me on top of the house this is what I need to be doing I I want to challenge somebody today I want you to step step across a culture line this week and just see what God will do step step across some lines that you have put in place those things that you just don't normally do I I I want you CH I want to challenge you maybe it's just an old theology that you might you see

Peter Peter's theology was all out of whack now he he just lost it because all he's been used to is Jewish culture Jewish law Jewish this Everything Jewish now now you know they've been talking about about Gentiles coming into the fold but Peter was still he was still kicking against against the Pricks he he was still having problems with that then all of a sudden a prayer meeting changed things isn't that something how Prayer Changes Things a prayer meeting changed all of that for Peter and

now he sees things different now he sees things I I I I want to I want to challenge you cross those lines and see what God will do in your life you see this this was this was more about Peter than Cornelius now Cornelius got he he he received salvation but I think Peter was God was straightening Peter out he was he was really trying to get Simon Peter to come to realization that this thing is greater it's bigger than than anything that you have an

idea about the kingdom of God Is Bigger Than it than what we've got right here in this room the kingdom of God is bigger than than 150 60 folk it's bigger than that and if we'd learned to just step outside of those those Comfort zones and say God I don't know what this means but I'm going to step outside I want you to stand with your with to me would you stand with me to your feet real quick I'm sorry I really feel this that God

is wanting to do some things in our life right now I think he he has some things that he's wanting to he's wanting some folks to step across some lines maybe it's a it's a vision that you've had a dream that you have had in your life and you don't know how to how that's going to come to fruition maybe it's something that you have dreamed of and that that you have got going on in your life maybe it's a it's it's a miracle that you're

looking for you know that God's going to do that maybe you're that woman at zerath maybe that's your situation maybe you're there and you don't know what's going on and you've already to written your death sentence go God wants wants you to know today that if you're willing to go that extra mile if you're willing to go that extra mile and say God here here here's that extra here here's the extra this is all I've got and I know that at the end of the day

if things don't change that's it for me that's where she she's at she's at that place if things don't change for me this is what the end results going to be but she decided to step outside and I really feel this in the Holy Ghost there's some people in here that's going to step outside today you're going to step outside of where you are and what you're going through those things that you're challenged with and you're going to take that EX extra what we would call

a leap of faith hallah and say God all in or none I I'm here I'm here I I I I'm here Lord Jesus I know that this has been rough for many of you things that you've been going through but I want you to I want to bring that hope to you today that your answer thank you is not death but your answer that Miracle is right before but all we've got to do is surrender all we have to do is give that last little bit

with all heads bowed in this place and all eyes closed if you do that for me except for Ministry that may be working this service I I want to challenge you today maybe you're in a situation and you're saying God I am at that point and you would like to Signal by the lifting of your hand that I am at that point I need some answers I need some changes in my life I need some things to be changed about my situation if you're that person

would you lift your hand right now just lift your hand in the name of Jesus God sees that thank you thank you thank you God sees those situations he knows exactly where you are he knows what you're going through he knows exactly what's happening in your life right now can you take that leap of faith at the like the woman at zarapa could you take that leap of faith would you step out from where you are right now walk to this front lift your hands and

say God I give it to you I give it to you Lord Jesus I give it to you Lord Jesus everything that I have Lord I give it to you Hallelujah let's begin to pray saints of God if you if you're in the audience would you step forth come on let's get to the front in the name of Jesus in the name of Jesus I give it to you Lord I'm stepping outside of that comfort zone Lord outside of those things that I have already set
