Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
I Want to Be Blessed of God
- The teacher opens by saying he wants to be blessed of God, and feels he has already been blessed above measure.
- Before the main reading, he reads the Genesis blessings — God blessing the living creatures to be fruitful and multiply, and then blessing Adam and Eve to be fruitful, replenish the earth, subdue it, and have dominion.
- He says the blessings of the Lord make a person rich — not in monetary gain, but rich in a way that adds no sorrow with it.
- Given a first-impulse choice of anything desired in this world, he urges the class to settle on the blessings of God as the greatest thing a person can have.
- With God's blessings, whatever else is desired can be given; without them, whatever else is obtained leaves a troubled life.
- He announces that there are certain things a person can do to obtain the blessings of God — a plain process spelled out in the Word — and that the lesson, which may run more than one morning, will walk through it.
Scriptures: Genesis 1:22; Genesis 1:28
Blessed Is the Man — Walking, Standing, and Sitting
- He reads the lesson's text: blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of the scornful.
- Three avoidances in that one verse are presented as three things a person can do to obtain the blessings of God.
- Walking, standing, and sitting cover where a person is at any time; there are places to walk, stand, and sit that bring blessing, and places that hinder it.
- He traces the promise through Abraham — God blessing those who bless him and cursing those who curse him — and says believers become Abraham's seed by being in Christ, so the blessings promised to Abraham reach them.
- Abraham had no son when the promise was given, yet he believed God, hoped against hope, and held to the promise until a son came when he was a hundred years old.
- The first and most important way to be blessed is to become a child of God through being born again; God has no grandkids, so every child and grandchild must come to that born-again experience for themselves.
- Being born again of the water and of the Spirit sets a person in line for the blessings of God, and many further things can enhance that relationship and its blessings.
Scriptures: Psalms 1:1
Walketh Not in the Counsel of the Ungodly
- There are people a person can listen to and walk with who will take their blessings away; a person cannot walk with God and run with the devil's crowd.
- He tells of a service where a preacher under a prophetic anointing described his life in detail from childhood — including preaching pet funerals as a boy alongside Joe, Tom, and Agnes — and then said the places he was going were hindering him.
- Puzzled, because he went almost nowhere but to church, he learned the hindrance was the Saturday-night place where he preached: a pastorless group meeting in a living room while their building was being built, where a contentious older preacher met his best preaching with accusations.
- He tells how an older visiting preacher, treated the same way there, refused to preach to a tired, sleeping congregation, dismissed the service, and went home — having learned to separate hindrances from helps.
- The lesson drawn is that a wrong atmosphere — even, he says, a church service — can hinder a person, expose them to things that zap their victory, and keep them from being what they need to be in God.
- He recounts a late-night visit from two men who came with their Bibles to correct his doctrine; after talking Scripture until the early morning hours, they left unable to persuade him, and that fellowship ended.
- His counsel is plain: if something is hindering your walk with God, carrying you the wrong direction, or tearing down instead of building up, stay away from it — a person can end up feeding the very thing that is about to destroy them.
Nor Standeth in the Way of Sinners
- The physical posture itself is not the point; the warning is not to stand where sinful practices are known to pass by, and to avoid places where evil always shows up.
- He urges proving all things, shunning the appearance of evil, and cleaving to what is good, noting that no one needs to watch many people stagger out of a drinking place to know it is not where they belong.
- Lot is held up as the warning example: a righteous man who pitched his tent toward a place of bad reputation, moved toward it gradually, and vexed his righteous soul day by day by seeing and hearing what went on there.
- A person who wants a blessed life should hang around with blessed folks; he retells a workplace story of a brother who stayed right behind a fellow worker he believed would be among the last laid off, and kept his own job nearly as long.
- Separation, he explains, is not leaving the world altogether — the world is full of sin — but refusing close company and fellowship with someone who is called a brother yet lives in sin.
- Some associations are known immediately to be ungodly; others only show themselves wrong after a short time — and that discovery, not growing attachment, is the moment to make the break.
Nor Sitteth in the Seat of the Scornful
- The seat of the scornful can be occupied even in church; some people dislike anything that goes on, and he distinguishes change made only for its own sake, which he resists, from change for the better, which he welcomes.
- He tells of his early study library — a Bible, a Strong's Concordance, and a 1947 collegiate dictionary given to him when he first started preaching, as old as he is — and of carrying those books everywhere he traveled.
- Seeking God in Texas with nothing to preach, he kept hearing the one word 'blessed,' looked it up in that old dictionary, and found its original meaning: consecrated with blood — a meaning he says the newer dictionaries no longer carry.
- That meaning opened the text to him: when God blessed the first couple, he consecrated them with blood, and a careless sacrifice that ignored the need for a blood offering stood in contrast to the brother whose offering recognized it.
- A scornful spirit, he says, waves all of this off as not mattering; against it he insists that being born of the water and of the Spirit matters, and that how a person is baptized matters — no apostle, he says, baptized any other way than in the name of Jesus.
- He declares his own resolve to stay with the old King James Bible and the true, older meanings of its words, wanting to be consecrated by the blood of Jesus Christ rather than drift with a great falling away.
- Scorning everything that takes place is the wrong spirit and the wrong attitude; the better resolve is to cheer up, admit what is not understood, refuse to scorn, and choose to be a less scornful person who wants God's blessings.
His Delight Is in the Law of the Lord
- What brings the blessing, he says, is delighting in the law of the Lord and meditating in it day and night.
- He speaks of finishing the year's read-through of the Bible and finding, every time through, something he had not seen said quite that way before; a much younger preacher recently opened a verse that had long tied him up, simply by looking at it differently.
- He recalls being accused, back at Collinwood, of brainwashing his people, and answering that he was doing it on purpose — meaning that a mind filled with the law of the Lord has the cleanest mind in town, crowded so full there is no room for filthy, ungodly, and detrimental thoughts.
- Against the saying that stray thoughts cannot be kept from flying overhead, he insists the thought process can be controlled — imaginations and every thought can be brought into captivity — and that a mind stayed on the Lord is kept in perfect peace.
- He apologizes for computer trouble that cost him his larger-print sermon notes, thanks the class for being there, greets visitors, and invites everyone to turn and bless somebody, saying the class will learn both to be blessed and to bless others.
- (The recording ends mid-lesson; the lesson's close is not in the capture.)

well praise the Lord aren't you glad to be in church this morning amen I I kind of feel like one of the old early country Patriots I don't know what course others may take but it's for me in my house amen wait just a minute let me let me put a little money in me brother Joe's missing and brother Greg's not the same uh sure brother Joe is you know Joe will stand here and shake that pain in front of you too you put something in it thank you but I am glad to be here
I know not what course others may take my only regret is I don't have but one life to give for my god amen Joshua said as for me and my house we're going to serve the Lord and serving God part of that is just simply coming to church and learning of him and that ain't all blessing him and letting him bless you in the church services and I that is going to be the the title of our lesson this morning is blessed is the man I have given them Psalms chapter one is my beginning reading
but let me back up before I read there and just read a couple of verses in the book of Genesis that I did not get printed out or did not give them Genesis 1 and 22 it said God blessed them of course that's speaking of Adam and Eve saying be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the sea and let the fowl well actually he's speaking to the animals speaking of the animals out here god bless them told them and then of course he told Adam and Eve when he blessed them and verse 28
God blessed them and God said unto them be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth
I want to be blessed of God don't you amen i I want the blessings of God in my life and I I really feel like that I've been blessed above measure anyone else in here feel like that God has blessed you above measure amen the blessings of God the blessings of the Lord maketh rich now that's not talking about with monetary gain over time but that make us rich and he addeth no sorrow therewith
now think of this with me for just a moment if you had a choice this morning of anything that you could desire in this world I wonder how many of just on first impulse you're sad these are the blessings of God amen that's the greatest thing that you could have in your life is the blessings of God
well we we know that once we settle just a little bit and you know you might have wished for something you might have desired something there may have been something that you have as a goal in life and if I just asked you that question without a four thought you might have grabbed ahold of that other thing that you had been thinking about in the time past and say well I'd like to have that
but then when you stop and think if you've got the blessings of God no matter what else it is that you desire God can give that to you he can bless you with that but if you don't have the blessings of God no matter what you obtain in this life you're in trouble it's a it's a troubled life if you don't have the blessings of God
well knowing that if I were to tell you that there are certain things that you can do to obtain the blessings of God every one of us ought to reach out and say I want to do this I want to do this I mean you know if I if there is a formula or a an action or a series of actions or a process that I could go through to obtain God's blessings I want to do that
well there is and it spelled out very plainly in the Word of God and I'm going to begin that this morning and I don't know how long this'll last we may try it for I have a feeling it lasts more than one morning
but let's start with Psalms chapter one Psalms one in one he said blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful now let's look
we have three different things that we can do to obtain the blessings of God right there in that first verse that I've read to you out of Psalms blessed is a man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful and let me let me just expound just a little bit on this because we're talking about walking standing and sitting so either way wherever you are walking standing or sitting you might be running sometimes but most of the time you're either going to be walking standing or sitting
there is a place that you can stand there's a place that you can sit and there's a place that you can walk that will bring God's blessings and there's places you can walk that will hinder the blessings of God from coming your way if you will remember Abraham with me for just a moment you remember God telling Abraham in blessing I will bless you and in cursing I'm gonna curse those that curse you I'll bless the ones that bless you and I'll curse the ones that curse you then
do you also remember that we are the seed of Abraham though Abraham be ignorant of us we're his children though he don't know anything about us he looked down through Isaac and then Isaac shall thy seed be called but that seed was one Paul said as of Christ well then when you become a child of God you're in Christ and Christ is in you and Paul declared that made us the seed of Abraham through Christ Jesus amen so when we are the seed of Abraham the blessings of Abraham came upon the Gentiles through that promise of God
all the way back in Genesis 15 again in Genesis 24 and in other places where God just strictly picked Abraham and said I'm going to bless you I'm going to make your seed as the sand of the seashore and as the stars of heaven
and when Abraham didn't even have a son there was no seed at all given unto him 25 years after God made him the prime Abraham had a son he was a hundred years old at this time but he believed God he held to the promise he hoped against hope he reached out and took a hold of faith and just believed God and the faithful are blessed with faithful Abraham hallelujah
so how is the first way in the most important way that I could become blessed of God I could become a child of Abraham how did I do that I become a child of God how did I do that you must be born again and remember this God doesn't have grandkids you know sometimes I think he misses something but not having grandkids but he doesn't have any grandkids every one of your children every one of your grandchildren and the generations to come if they're going to obtain the real true blessings of God that amount to a deep blessing from God they're going to come to a born-again experience
so if we get born again of the water and of the spirit automatically we're set in line for the blessings of God now there are many many things that we can do to enhance our relationship with God and therefore our blessings with God even after that so he said now if you walk not in the counsel of the ungodly there are people that you can listen to they will take your blessings away there are people that you can walk with that'll take you in let me just say this you can't walk with God and run with the devil's crowd there are people you know
I was I was in church service one night there was a prophetic anointing upon the preacher and he was he was preaching and then he stopped and he began to describe my life all the way from a child he told things that I did as a child he didn't tell who this was or anything
but I knew he was leading up to me I mean he described them in detail things that I'd done he didn't know these things but he described him in detail and then when he got to the end he said you know he told told about the calling that was upon my life then he said but the places that you go are hindering you I've dropped it all I think don't know where but the church I mean I was I want to work and back into church and back and that was it we went to church
almost every night we drive a hundred miles for a good revival we was in churches and had the Holy Ghost long and we was in church every time we could I needed to know more about God I had questions concerning the Bible almost every time that I'd go somewhere to a church service I'd get some of those questions answered so I was hungry for the next service and we were we were literally wearing our tires out and our our car out just going to church wherever where there was a good revival we were in it
if it was within driving distance so that we could get back home somewhere around midnight or before we were there and some time was way over it past midnight getting home but nevertheless we learned to live on less sleep and we learned to travel late at night
my wife learned to drive on the other side of the car and I just set the cruise and she'd reach over and hold the wheel and I'd sleep now it sounds dangerous but we made it I mean she I told her I said we were training to be a mailman you know yeah that driver but we did this night after night after night we he said well why didn't you just let her drive I tried that even as late as Josh being able to be a young driver well let me tell this anyway down but you be quiet till I get this tell him
I let her drive one night I was so sleeping was in the revival at this time and she'd get to one of these big old long curves you know and she cut it in segments and every time she'd do that I'd wake up so I said well let Josh Drive he got in and here's worse as she was I finally said I can get more sleep me driving I can yell drive and let me drive again and of course I could sleep and drive I've done that a lot of times
but I woke up one time saw a road sign I was in there by myself and I thought I went to sleep and got off on the wrong road I've never seen this community sign before I was 15 miles from home but I'd never noticed that sign being up on that 64 highway before and when I went a little bit further I saw the net just race and I realized where was that but I just saw well I went to sleep and drove in my sleep til I've got on the wrong road I mean I've done some dangerous things
but nevertheless I went to church because that's where the blessings of God were and that's where my my answers were that's where I I felt the presence of God in a stronger fashion that I normally did at home many reasons for going to church you'll be blessed by obeying the Word of God and being in church but when he said blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly that preacher told that night and he said the places you're going or hindering you
brother and sister perkins was at our house not long after that and they had been in that service and I said to them I said you know that preacher the other night described my life to a tee I mean it was my childhood he walked right through the things that I've done and the things that I've been through and the things that God had dealt with me at in as a child and even told about me preaching funerals when I was just a kid
once it was chickens and cats and things like that you know some of our pets that would die there was never a question who's gonna preach the funeral Joe and Tom and Agnes all just got him a a wood block and set on that climbed up and the load and shoot and preach the funeral which everyone it was we marched off
up in a procession the funeral procession mrs. Lawson's pastor dug a grave and bare their pen or in the case of a chicken and they wouldn't pets but if one died on our farm we buried him you know give him a proper burial and a Christian burial and it was just it was just it was just a customary thing for us even describe that and I thought that's got to be me until he said the places you're going is hindering you and I told brother sister Perkins I was still puzzled about it I said you know the places that I go are not hearing me cuz I don't go anywhere but the church
and what Ivan spoke up and said where you've been going down and preaching on Saturday night if it's still like it used to be that's what's hindered you and I got thinking about it that's what's hindered me that is what's hindered me almost every Saturday night they didn't have a pastor down there looking back on it as a little older man of course we didn't have our church building built in the beginning and I
got to go in there on Saturday night to preach and they always wanted a preacher well I was available and so I'd go down there and preach and then we'd have Church inside the living room in the wintertime and we were in the process of building our church building
and I've never thought of it hindered me although I've done the best I could do one time and one of the older preachers down there wasn't a pastor but he was a contentious fella he got up and he said that's the lie the devil didn't tell him from the beginning I've done the best I could do
I I didn't get offended at it you know I was just a young preacher and just brand-new in the ministry and I just preaching the best I knew how to preach and when he told me that was I knew where I got my message so I knew it wasn't a lie and I knew it's telling them the truth I didn't get offended I got this one
on the next Saturday night I was down there again and then the next Saturday night I was probably there again it was just almost every Saturday night and that was just one of the contentious things and then you know there was an older preacher come to preach and he was from Tuscany Alabama area and some of you may know him
brother guy Russell you may have known him very pleasant fella to be around I didn't know him at the time but I got pretty well acquainted with him that night he come to preach because some family members that had been former church members there had come in from up north and they wanted to hear him preach he set there
and they treated him just like they had treated me and when they did they one of them said well we're fixed and turned the preacher loose he said when you do he's going home and I thought he's just kidding they gave him the service and he got up and he said you folks are dismissed he said if you want to hear me preach come back and let me have the service at a decent hour and I'll preach but all of you tired of sleeping and I'm not gonna preach tonight
I thought I should have done that a long time ago you know I really order I really ever had that but I didn't have that much boldness I didn't have really I didn't even know how things should have been going I wasn't sensitive in that area at all I've become acquainted with brother Russell add to that he and I became real good friends and helped some unusual services we preached a funeral in the living room of a house buried him in the yard went back and preached another funeral on the porch of that house paired them in the yard I mean
we've been sooth through some strange things together but it learned a lot about brother Russell and I learned that he had been in the ministry long enough to associate hindrances and keep them separated from helps and he knew what was hindering that service so he just set it all straight and of course they didn't believe he would I didn't believe he would but he said if you turn him loose he's going home
he got up dismissed that church the one who never preached a lid and I thought well I should have done that a few times you know but I just didn't know how and I realized after they said that if where are you going if you've been going where you said you were going that's what's hindering you
folks we can get in the wrong atmosphere and in that wrong atmosphere we can hear things see things and operate under the influence of things that will hinder us blessed is he that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly it don't have to be a beer John tender yeah I found out a long time ago you could be on a church service it would hinder you
you could be in places that would really zap your victory keep you from being what you needed to be in God amen find a good place and stay in that good don't you like it when when the power of God is falling in them and the movement of the Holy Ghost is there and you feel like you've got right under the spout where the glory comes out amen so you're a blessed man if you'll avoid those bad places and get in the good places hallelujah and each of us can do that it may it may take a little sensitive in our part and may cause us to pray and seek God
finally I preached something that the the leader of that church he was not a pastor but he was a leader in charge and then this other preacher that was sitting there in the congregation they they really felt like I'd gone overboard I'm sure or really I needed teaching so they came to my house one night both of them had their Bibles when they knocked on the door and they said we've come to help you it's kind of like Ronald Reagan said if a man from the government knocks on your door and says I've come to help you you get rid of him as fast as you can
well I invited him in and we said til 2 o'clock in the morning all we were doing was talking scripture and they had the and I'm not saying this in such a detrimental way but they had the doctrine of the Jehovah Witness all tied up with with the Pentecostal doctrine and mixed together I don't know why they had studied that stuff I mean I found a Bible that's what I wanted to study they went through and through and through with this and when they got through they got up and said well we can't make you believe this and I thought thank God and they left and that ended our fellowship
and so I am very thankful that I don't have to sit in the counsel of the ungodly I don't have to walk there I don't have to be among that Amen if something is hindering your walk with God stay away from it you'll be blessed by doing so if something is carrying you in the wrong direction if something is always tearing down instead of building you up stay away from it amen there there is the possibility that we are feeding the very thing that is about to destroy us so he said blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly
the next phrase was nor standeth in the way of sinners now I don't think our physical position whether it be walking standing or sitting is making the difference but it's used here and let's let's go ahead and use it to the utmost if we can but if we know that sinful practices are going to passed by this way let's not stand there if you know it's always gonna every time I get to this area this is what I'm faced with don't go there
abstain from the appearance of evil shun the appearance of evil the Bible said prove all things shun the appearance of evil cleave to that which is good you'll be a blessed person if you avoid those places where evil always shows up amen just avoid them I mean we learned automatically by just listening and knowing and seeing of the effects I mean you you wouldn't have to watch too many people stagger out of a beer joint to know if you don't get drunk or you don't drink that's not the place you need to be amen
you know we could carry that just a little bit farther we don't stand in the way where we know this is going to be a sinful thing that takes place here this is going to be sinful it's going to vex me it's going to tear my soul down it's going to cause me oh the Bible said that righteous man vexed his righteous soul from day to day and seeing and hearing the ungodly
speaking of lot a lot had no business in Sodom I mean he pitched his tent toward Sodom and Gomorrah he didn't get down there in a day he got there slowly as slow as the cows graze the grass down you'd move on he'd move on always in that direction
Sodom had a reputation we don't know exactly how others thought about it but I know how God felt about it Amen it had a bad reputation I'm sure that if their cry had come up to heaven somebody on earth had heard that reputation and they'd cried to God and God said I'm going down and see if it's as bad as I've heard and if it is I'm gonna destroy the place
Lauda had no business there that righteous man vexed his righteous soul from day today so if you'll be blessed if you don't stand in the way of sinners and that don't mean you're trying to block them that just simply means don't get where all this is going on stay away from it avoid those places if I want my life blessed I need to hang around with blessed folks
brother Danny Fraser told a story and I it's been so many years ago I may forget a portion of it I hope I don't forget the the very main point that he was making and I hope I can tell it right enough wordlist sir most of you knew of what Lazar when it was a major employer here in Corinth all of the at one time all of the organs all of the workers are organs that were built were being built in cars Mississippi and I don't know if that was the whole time that plant was here but at one time it was that away
brother Danny worked there and they were they were laying off there was getting the you know the demand for the electronic organ I suppose some of these things like this piano that a player organ or whatever else you want to play on it if if your name's brother Keith you can just make it do anything you know that was probably coming on synthesizers and so forth was coming in and the demand for those expensive organs with the big wood cabinet and beautiful as they were their demand was diminishing and eventually wart litter was going to close the plant so they they had seen the handwriting on the walls some of them had known this
brother Denny brought a man to church with him or either he was a tender here and I don't remember which but a prophet came by and told this man that he was going to be among the last ones to be laid off it worthless era so brother Danny was here he heard that he believed that I mean
if you believe the prophets you'll prosper a man so he said every time that man transferred I transferred with him right behind him he said I got a hold his words were I got a hold of his coattail and I held on because I knew he was going to be among the last wants to be laid off and I wanted to hold my job as long as I could and it weren't a men you just you just believed God
and I'm telling you God's Word just works and it was spoken by the mouth of a man that's still God's Word if God put it in his heart and will be under the man that said thus saith the Lord and I have not spoken
so he believed that and he just held on and it worked he was with this man right on down I don't know how far the plant was from closing but as long as that man had a job or almost as long brother Danny was right there with him I don't brother Keith may remember that may remember the man's name I don't but I just remember him telling the story and I remember me feeling the presence of God when he was saying that we are we are blessed when we associate with blessed people amen
so associate yourself in in normal living in everyday life associate yourself with bless people and that don't mean that you're a hermit that you get away from the into our world when Paul wrote about not keep company with fornicators he said now I wrote to you in a letter not to keep company with fornicators and he said that's not altogether the fornicators of this world he said in that case you'd had to get plumb out of the world the world is filled with sin but he said if any man is called a brother and he's a fornicator don't even eat with him don't associate with him make Yuma shame and don't don't let your good be evil spoken up
separate yourself do do differently so if we are standing in the way of sinners we're asking God in our actions don't bring blessings my way don't bless me but if we're separating ourselves from the sinful practices and the avenues that Xion normally travels in and we avoid them we're saying god bless me god bless me some things that you and i don't associate with just by simple reason that we know immediately it's ungodly other things after you associated with it for a short time you're going to find out this is wrong and that's the time to make the break don't wait until you get too attached to it separate yourself and don't stand in the way of sinners
now then this number three nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful let me back up bless it is a man and now let me just add this last to it that does it set in the seat of the scornful you know that could be right here Church we have a few of those seats that could be occupied by scornful folks right here some people don't like anything that's going to go on I've always used this phrase I say always for years if it's just changed for the sake of change keep the change in your pocket I don't like it
but if it's changed for the better let's go ahead and have it we need to progress we need to move forward we need to we need to learn and we need to go forth we need to get a hold of the things that will further us in the gospel and in life we need those things but if it's just to change something around just so we're doing something different I don't like change I probably don't like it
and here I got up thinking this morning I have a 7th edition Collegiate Dictionary it was copyrighted in 1947 so it's 70 years old it's as old as I am somebody gave me that old dictionary years ago when I first started preaching it was invaluable to me I couldn't afford a dictionary at that time they gave me that and had to back on at the end it don't have now but the back was kind of loose and if I hadn't known how much it was going to mean to me I would have had it rebound after I got a little money when I go off to preach a revival or in my study at home
my only study books consisted of my Bible that old Collegiate Dictionary and the Strongs concordance Strong's Concordance was very reasonably priced I could buy one from brother LD Overton for twelve dollars and a half at that time they were bound cheap but they stayed on the day unless I was going somewhere to preach a revival I always carried without fail my Strong's Concordance 7th edition Collegiate Dictionary and my Bible those were the that was all of my library that I carried when I travel that was it
I was in Texas one time and I was I was seeking God I was staying there in evangelistic quarters it was an annex to the church and also sunday-school rooms and they had sunday-school rooms up above fellowship hall in the bottom of it and then the living quarters I forgotten where they were upstairs or downstairs but we were we were I was there for a week and over toward the end of the week I I didn't have nothin to preach and I I was desperate I mean I wanted to hear from God
I got down in the floor on my face in those sunday-school rooms and I was praying to God now Lord I've got a I've gotta have something to tell these people tonight I could have told him a lot of things but I wanted something that God had sanctioned that he had ordained I I wanted to feel the inspiration of God in that
and God kept telling me blessed and over and over again I just hear that word blessed and I think now Lord I know I'm blessed but I don't feel like it if I won't feel like it if I got something to tell these people tonight I need your word instilled in my heart that I can tell them I want to feel the auction on a sermon to preach to this people tonight
please give me a message now I'm desperately down there I'm not beating my feast fists on the floor but I've got my head my face I'm down in the floor just stressed out pleading and begging and crying to God and I kept hearing blessed so I didn't have to move for I just raised up a little and reached over and got that old 1947 Webster dictionary
and I looked up the word blessed and I was blessed the original meaning this is not in your new dictionaries I've got a tenth edition I've got 11th edition and probably a ninth edition it's not in them that's I wish that I had that other than rebound I've still got the thing but it just don't have a binding on it it says originally the word bless meant consecrated with blood
so when God blessed Adam and Eve it opened a whole new avenue to me when God blessed them he consecrated them with blood when their son that slew the other one was so careless in his sacrifice if he able to look back at what happened to Mama and Daddy he would have known like Abel it takes a blood sacrifice I have to offer blood without the shedding of blood there's no remission of sins but he paid very little attention
if you are sitting in the seat of the scornful you can say all of this don't matter or that don't matter I don't know why they're so crazy about this but they you know there we might look at and say they're there I'm using the biblical phrase but I'm using it backwards like a scornful person would they're there straining out a
gnat and swallow a camel I mean but the Bible said you must be born of the water and of the Spirit I mean some folks said well you don't have to be baptized and I'm gonna tell you you have to be baptized
and does it make any difference how you're baptized there's a lot of confusion over baptism but God's not the author that confusion if you just study the Word of God you'll find out there was never an apostle that baptized anybody else any other way then but in the name of Jesus amen so it does make a difference if we want but now if you want to scorn things and you say well I believe wouldn't weigh just good as another I don't know why they make such an issue out of that
we make an issue out of it because that's the Word of God amen and if you if you look back and say well I don't know why God was so upset with Cain when he didn't accept his sacrifice well if you just look just a little bit farther back they were blessed he blessed them he consecrated them with blood now I'm telling you this is a reason I stink the King James Version Bible also all the newer versions are changing just a little just pretty soon we won't have the truth left if we all just dilly-dally around with everything as it comes along amen
I know how I was translated I've read and understood the the effort that was put in it in the effort that was put to keep it pure and clean and according to the Word of God the diligence that was placed there the protection of the king to be sure there was no outside influence on it why would I want to come down and believe one man's word I read a verse or I heard a verse this morning or yesterday afternoon one that was read out of another version of the Bible and I thought well now look I mean I'm not I'm not totally against all these other versions
I'm just saying as for me in my house I'm gonna use that old-fashioned King James Version and you might get a something good out of one of the mothers but you find a good cabbage head in the slop every now and then too but who want to dig through their to find it being just a little bit brassy there
but what I'm telling you is our modern-day world has lost the value of God's Word and almost all of the dictionary references to religion has been taken out of these modern dictionaries there's nothing in the later models about consecrated by blood but it used to be you said well it's never used that way now the dictionary is reprinted to bring us up to the modern way of living I understand that I believe that I know that
but then on the other hand I'm just old-fashioned and I want the old fashioned Word of God I want the true meaning that those words used to mean because I can I can understand that in the last days there's going to be a great falling away I don't want to fall away
I want the blessings of God in my life I want to be consecrated by the blood and I know it's not by the blood of bulls and goats anymore but I want to be consecrated the blood of Jesus Christ I don't want that taken out of our Bibles I don't want it taken out of our dictionaries but it is very quickly being removed from the things of life especially since religion has become so controversial
and you know people are fighting over religion and they're they're killing over religion and even one of the world leaders said Gorbachev a few years ago he said if we ever have peace in the world we might tolerate one of the Middle Eastern religions but religion as a whole is going to have to be obliterated and I may have not used the same word he did but he meant we're not gonna have to be able to have our religion
folks Christianity is the most peaceful religion that you'll ever find we've been killed all day long we've been as oxen led to slaughter we've been killed going and coming without any fighting back I mean our religion has gone through and stood the test of time
let's let's believe the Word of God let's a little bit the Word of God if we sit there and are scornful about everything that goes on we are not a blessed person we're not asking for the blessings of God it'll be in scornful to start with it we're in the wrong spirit the wrong attitude
so why don't we just cheer up a little bit and say all right I may not understand it just like he doesn't like they do or I may not even believe just like they do but I'm not going to scorn everything that's taking place there and I want the blessings of God so I'm going to be a less scornful person
now then here is the thing that is going to bring your blessings but his delight is in the law of the Lord I was just thinking the Lord yesterday or day before just this week in a way we had finished our Bible reading about a month ago to read through the Bible in a year and I was I was just thanking God I can turn loose of that time and spin it in the study of you just reading through it
whether Haley come in this morning telling me that he had they had finished their Bible reading for the year reading through the Bible and here just recently also and he was so glad that they were reading it through every year because they he was getting so much out of it
there's not a time that I read through it that I don't find something and I think well I didn't know it was that way I didn't know it was that way I don't know how many times we have read it through but I find something in there that I wasn't aware that it said it just this way matter may have new
and you know I was listening recently to a young preacher that really has not had near the preaching experiences that I've had and he come across something and opened up a brand new avenue to me and I've often been tied up on that verse of scripture and I think well I don't see how that could mean that well it didn't mean that and when he said it was just it was just like a door opening I mean he'd always looked at it evidently in a different manner he wasn't doing expository preaching he just well he was but he didn't he didn't seem to be was just quoting that scripture and
all of a sudden it opened up to me I want the blessings of the Lord I want to delight in the law of God please tell me if there's anything that I'm doing outside of God's law and God's Way I want the blessings of God his delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law he doth meditate day and night
somebody accused us back years ago when we was at Collinwood they said well that preacher is brainwashing him well they brought it to me I mean they should have known it would have been told they come out and said you know so-and-so said that you're brainwashing these folks I said I am I'm meaning to I doing it on purpose but it's not like they think you go back and tell them we've got the cleanest minds in town well that didn't sit well there and but it's not brainwashing like you think
but now you look at this blessed is he that you're if you delight yourself in the law of the Lord and in it you meditate day and night you crowd out the room for all of those filthy ungodly sinful and detrimental thoughts it's often been said that you can't prevent the bird from flying over your head but you don't have to let him build a nest in your hair and what they're referring to is you can't prevent these stray thoughts from coming through bad thoughts or wrongful thoughts but you don't have to dwell on them
but that's not so that's not so the Bible said that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal they're mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds casting down imaginations you notice everybody this takes place in the mind casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity everybody say captivity every thought
your thought process can be controlled you don't have to let the bird fly over your head I mean we're not talking about birds and nests we're talking about thinking power blessed is the man whose mind is stayed on me you'll keep in perfect peace you'll be a man of perfect peace if his mind state on the Lord
I want to be blessed don't you amen so if I delight myself in the law of the Lord and in his law I meditate day and night I prevented a lot of things coming my way it's gonna hinder and hurt me
I am glad that you're here our time is gone since my computer was all messed up and I wasn't gonna tell you that I was frustrated I didn't want to take it out on you and I hope I didn't take it out on you word search would not open on my computer Josh Aloma his they said like daylight and dark here's a setup so much different from mine and both of them same brand both of his word search but he's got a lot of upgrades that I don't have and I was as lost on his as I could have without word search so I didn't get nothing
Samuel finally googled and printed some of my scriptures so I have it printed but I mean it was just almost all I needed was something to bigger print so I could read now that well I can read out of the Bible I might just jump miss a word every now and then if my eyes get that way
but I just got carried away trying to be blessed and trying to tell you how to be blessed and her times thrown away from us but I'm glad you're here amen aren't we glad that sister Abernathy it's always good to see you she's been around for a while this time but so good to see her always a brightness to our service when she's here
and then we got sister Shirley and brother Ted and his family but the Samuel they're out of heat in Collinwood this morning and I'm so glad to have them so good to see all of y'all you're just a blessing to look upon your face and see you in Sunday school must be blessed was it the man from Kansas that said turn around tell your neighbor I bless you in Jesus name Amen I believe it was I'd like you to do that this morning turn around bless somebody anyway we're gonna learn to be blessed and we're gonna learn to bless others I
