Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

If Any Man Thirst: Rivers of Living Water

  • On the last and great day of the Feast of Tabernacles, after seven days in which the high priest carried water from the pool and poured it on the altar while the people pleaded for rain, the ceremony ended and the crowd stood in silence.
  • In that quiet moment Jesus stood and cried, "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:37).
  • Jesus was saying the priest had been pouring dead water on a cold stone altar, but our hearts are the altar he came to pour his Spirit on; religion gave a ceremony and a routine, but Jesus gives life.
  • John 7:39 explains the promise: "But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified."
  • That promise was fulfilled at Pentecost, when they were all with one accord in one place and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues (Acts 2:1).
  • The message announced from this text is living in the overflow: stop surviving on a sip and step out of the ritual into the river.

Scriptures: John 7; John 7:37; John 7:39; Acts 2:1

Don't Park at Pentecost: March Toward Tabernacles

  • Pentecost was the beginning of the wheat harvest and is the church's birthday, when the Holy Ghost was poured out and believers were given power to be witnesses; Tabernacles, the fall feast, celebrated the final ingathering harvest and signified that God wants to tabernacle, to live, with his people.
  • As the feast's water-pouring cried out for the latter rain to bring a natural harvest, Jesus inserted himself to say what we need is not natural rain but spiritual rain from the Holy Ghost if our city and our world are going to change.
  • Too many believers have treated Pentecost like a monument, looking back to when they were filled and to the good old days of past revivals, but the church cannot park at Pentecost because there is a great harvest that requires all of us working together.
  • Living from service to service hoping to get just enough to last until the next one repeats the priest's endless marching back and forth with his pitcher; Jesus instead offers a well of living water springing up within the believer who stays connected to him.
  • Overflow means to flow over the brim, to be filled completely beyond human capacity; God never intended the Holy Ghost to be a rationed measure, nor did he save us to barely drag across the finish line of heaven on spiritual life support.
  • God wants to shift his people out of a survival mindset into a revival mindset: stop praying just to survive the week or for a lighter load, and start praying for the overflow of his Spirit.
  • The preacher illustrated this movement with a woman he had taught in a phone Bible study through the book of Acts, who realized she had never known she could have the Holy Ghost and then received it at a tent revival, and with her pastor friend, who was also filled with the Spirit that night and weeks later told his own small, dry congregation that they needed the Holy Ghost too, convinced God had brought him back from a heart attack because he had a message to share.

The Word of Our Testimony

  • In Revelation we overcame the enemy by the blood of the Lamb, which was all God's doing, and by the word of our testimony; yet too often people in the church sit silently with their mouths shut.
  • People in our own congregations have been healed, delivered from addiction, baptized, and filled with the Holy Ghost, and all around us every day are people dealing with broken marriages, broken families, and spiritual oppression who would be changed if we got them into the presence of Jesus.
  • God did not call Peter or Paul to live in 2026; he called us, and greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world, so if they could do it, we can do it, if we get in touch with the overflow.

Scriptures: Revelation (book-only, as spoken)

Three Dimensions of the Overflow

  • First, the overflow of joy: "In thy presence is fullness of joy" (Psalms 16:11); in his presence we are plugged into an eternal, unfailing spring, so our cup can run over even when the world around us is dry, and people will recognize we have been in church by our joy.
  • Second, the overflow of power: as the sermon cites it, you will receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you will be witnesses; he has given us strength to tread on serpents, overcome temptation, and walk in victory, but the power we have been given must be exercised.
  • Third, the overflow of influence: "He that believeth on me... out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38); a bucket can only hold so much, but a river changes everything it touches, its geography and landscape, and people should be drawn to us as they are drawn to rivers.
  • The overflow is meant to reach beyond the believers themselves, splashing even those who came only as spectators, in a culture that is desperately looking for authenticity and is tired of dead religion.

Scriptures: Psalms 16:11; Acts 1:8; John 7:38

It Is Expedient: The Advantage of the Spirit

  • Before the cross Jesus told his disciples, "It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you" (John 16:7); expedient means it is to our absolute advantage.
  • Men who had walked with Jesus, talked with him, and watched him calm raging seas still needed his Spirit; we cannot do this by ourselves, not with a doctor, a therapist, a professor, family, or a book.
  • Jesus did not send a substitute: "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you"; the Holy Ghost is not a separate third entity but the Spirit of Jesus Christ himself, the same Spirit that opened blind eyes, raised the dead, and raised Christ from the dead, now living in us.
  • That advantage means living in his comfort and in the assurance that no weapon formed against us will prosper, with the ability to witness and to be courageous.
  • If the church had just lived at Pentecost, it would never have gotten out of Jerusalem; sometimes the very thing we are praying for God to take away is the tool he is using to get us out of our seat, so the closing call is not for a taste or a sip but for the overflow, because there is a great harvest ahead.

If you have your Bibles, if you'll turn with me to the Gospel of John, chapter 7. John, chapter 7. For all of our guests in the room, can we give them a hand clap? Thank you so much for being with us today. I encourage you come back next week and hear Pastor Allan. He's uh a great pastor, great preacher, and he is in Finley today. He is uh preaching an anniversary service for someone who's not a stranger to this church, brother Jeremy White. And so we appreciate our pastor and first lady. John 7:37 says, “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, if any man thirst, let him come to me and drink.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Verse 39 says, “But this spake he of the spirit, which they that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Taking us to a a scripture that we should be familiar with. Acts chapter 2 verse 1 says that when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house. Look at your neighbor and say, “All the house.” Where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire, and it set upon each of them, and they were all filled.

Look at your other neighbor and say, they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. with the help of the Lord this morning. I'm going to be ministering on this topic, living in the overflow. Living in the overflow. If you'll set your Bibles down, let's lift our hands right now. Father, we thank you so much for this opportunity, Lord, to come into your house to worship you in spirit and in truth. And already, Lord, we feel your presence in a mighty and powerful way. We're so grateful that you choose us to be your children. We're so grateful that you're willing to fill us with your spirit, God. I believe that there's a great harvest ready for this church.

I believe that there are those in this community, Lord, that are hungry for more of you. And I believe that we have the message, God, to send to them, Jesus, to reach them with your powerful salvation. All this we pray in the mighty name of Jesus. and let the church say, “Give the Lord a hand clap of praise as you're seated.” To truly grasp what Jesus is promising us in John chapter 7, we have to picture where he was standing and the declaration that he was making. It was on the day known as the Feast of Tabernacles. It was the most joyous celebration of the Jewish calendar. For seven days, Jerusalem was packed with hundreds of pilgrims, thousands of worshippers. They built temporary booths out of palm branches to remember how God had sustained their fathers in the wilderness.

And every single morning of that feast, a grand procession would take place. The high priest would take a golden picture and he would march down from the temple mount to the pool of shalom with shouting and trumpets sounding and the Levitical choir chanting the hell found in psalms. He would scoop up living water and he would process back through the water gate marching to the altar. Then before the eyes of all of Israel, he would pour that water onto a stone altar to the Lord, remembering the water that came from the rock in the desert as they would plead for God to send rain for the coming harvest. For seven days, they watched water that would be poured out on this cold, lifeless stone. But then came the eighth day.

Amen. The great day of the feast. The ritual was over. The golden picture was set aside. And the crowd st stood in silence wondering if God had heard their prayers. And right in the middle of this quiet moment, when the ceremony could go no further, Jesus of Nazareth stood up on that day and began to cry out. He didn't whisper. He declared in the middle of the noise of a religious system, “If any man thirst,” Amen. If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water. Amen. Do you see what Jesus is doing? He's saying, “You've been watching a priest pour dead water on a cold stone altar for seven days, but I didn't come to refresh the altar and a stone, but I have come to refresh your heart.”

Amen. Your heart is an altar, and I'm going to pour my spirit out on your heart. Amen. Get rid of the religious system. We have a God that wants to commune and live with us. Amen. Hallelujah. How many of you have the Holy Ghost? How many of you know that God has changed your life? Amen. Hallelujah. He came to give us an eternal stream. Religious gave us religion gave a ceremony, but Jesus gives life. Religion gave a routine, but the Holy Ghost will give you an overflow of the spirit. Amen. I don't know about you, but I want to live in the overflow. Amen. I didn't come to preach about a dried up well or yesterday's rain, but I've come to tell somebody today who's been feeling dry and weary and drained, it's time to step out of the ritual, and it's time to step into the river.

Amen. It's time to stop surviving on a sip and start living in the overflow. Hallelujah. Can we give the Lord a hand clap of praise? It's important to understand that there's a difference in Pentecost and tabernacles. Pentecost was celebrated because it was the beginning of the wheat harvest in late spring. Pentecost is a birthday. Amen. The church was born at Pentecost. The Holy Ghost was poured out and believers spoke in tongues as evidence at Pentecost. We were given power to be a witness at Pentecost. But tabernacles is is different. It happened around the fall time around October. It was the celebration of the final harvest. the in gathering, that final and great harvest of the agricultural year. It signified that God wants to tabernacle, that God wants to live with his people.

When every olive had been pressed, when every grape had been gathered, and every fruit had been brought to the barn, it was the largest and most joyful feast because it was a celebration of abundance and completion. But there was a catch. They couldn't reap next year's harvest without the latter rain. So when that high priest poured that water out on the altar during tabernacles, the people weren't just looking back at the wilderness. They were crying out for the rain for the final harvest. And right when they were crying out for that rain to bring a natural harvest is when Jesus inserted himself and he stood up and he said, “It is not a natural harvest that you need.” But if you want to see our city changed, if you want to see your world changed, amen, what you need inside of you is not a natural rain, but it is a spiritual rain.

a rain that comes from the Holy Ghost. Amen. I don't know about you, but I wish somebody would just stand to their feet right now and say, “You know what, Lord? Send the final rain. Send that latter rain. Fill me with the Holy Ghost. Lord, there's a harvest ready, center point. There's a harvest in this city.” Amen. And it needs some believers who believe today that I need the Holy Ghost. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. My friends, I fear that too many of us have treated Pentecost like a monument. We look back and we say, “Well, I was filled with the Holy Ghost back in 19 such and such.” And we look back at Isuza Street and we say, “In 1906, God poured out his spirit in Los Angeles, California.

And we saw Methodists and Baptists and Presbyterians and whites and blacks and Asians. And we just remember those good old days. And we look around this sanctuary and we remember all the great things that happened here at Centerpoint. And we praise God for where we're at today. And we treat Pentecost like it's a one-time event just so that we got goosebumps. But Jesus is crying out to us today and he's saying, “Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water.” I've come to challenge the church today. We can't park at Pentecost. Amen. Because there is a great harvest. We have got to march towards tabernacles. Hallelujah. Can we give the Lord a hand clap of praise? We need to be working together. All of us need to be filled with the Holy Ghost.

I believe that we should have great influence in our community. Amen. I believe that the harvest requires all of us working together. What if 500 of us decided that we were going to march outside of the the four walls of this beautiful building that we're in and we were going to do something incredible for God. We were going to influence our community. We were going to turn MTSU upside down. We were going to change our workplaces. Amen. Jesus is telling us today, you don't need to march back to the river time and time again and beg for a rain. No. If you would just connect with me, if you would just be in tune with me, there would be a well of living water that would spring out of you.

Amen. But too often we park at Pentecost. We want to remember the good old days. Amen. But I'm here to tell you today that we need to quit looking back and we need to start looking forward. Amen. Because there's darkness in this world. But if there were just a handful of apostolics that would get together and say, “I'm tired of the same old sameo.” Amen. You know what? I'm going to change my prayer life. I'm going to change the way that I read my Bible. Amen. I'm going to change the way that I witness. I want to see our prayer meetings changed in this in this church. Hallelujah. I believe today we can turn our world upside down. But it requires us living in the overflow.

Hallelujah. Amen. I believe what should make us different than the world is the overflow. The Bible shows us that all believers were filled. All believers were filled. So my question to you today is how much room do you have in your earthly vessel? Are you filled? Did you come into this place filled or did you expect the worship team to help you get there? Oh, come on. Come on. Might be the last time you hear me preach, but don't shout me down when I'm preaching good. Jesus says it's going to be like a river. And did you know that every river there's life and there's progress around every river. Every major city is built around rivers. Rivers change the atmosphere around it. Everything that the river touches.

Everything changes around it. And I believe too often we as the children of God act as though we are defeated when we don't walk in the promises of God. And yet he has given us great power. He has given us great power. Great power to be an influence. And as I mentioned, we look back on on all the great things that have taken place over the years. But if you were at general conference or got to catch any of the services online, you would see that today is the greatest day to be a part of the church. Churches are being planted. People are being filled with the Holy Ghost. Born missionaries are reaching people overseas. And we keep talking about how we want Pentecost and we want a a Church of Acts kind, you know, and we and we get there and and yet we are living in the greatest time period ever.

And yet sometimes we act as though we are the most defeated people in the world. Bishop and I were talking this morning and and I told him, I said, “One of the things that that that I'm convicted of is, you know, we get we get set in in routine. We've got things to do and places to be and and and and I am just as guilty as that as anyone else is. You know, I've got this place to be and I've got this thing to do and and life is completely busy.” And the thing is is that if the devil, that's definitely what he wants to do is he wants to make us busy. But yet all around us when we're out in this community, there are people who are dealing with a lot of things.

Amen. They're dealing with marriages that are being broken. Amen. They're dealing with family relationships. They're dealing with demon possession. And yet here we are. We're walking around them each and every single day. And yet we are not paying attention to the fact that if we were living in the overflow, we have the message to change their life. Amen. If I can just get them in the presence of Jesus, how many of you would say today, he's changed my life. The beautiful thing that we see in Revelation, the very end when it's all done with, the Bible tells us that we overcame him, the enemy, by the blood of the lamb, which guess what? You had nothing to do with that was all God. We overcame him by the blood of the lamb.

And it doesn't stop there, brother Freeman. It says, “We overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony.” But yet, too often in the church, people are sitting silently with their mouths shut. When you have got a testimony of what Jesus has done for you in this building today, people have been healed. Amen. In this building today, alcoholism has been unshackled. Amen. There have been people that have gone down in watery graves and filled with the Holy Ghost. Some of you came from denominations in which it was all ritual. But today in this place you were dancing in the altar because finally you have felt freedom. And we just sit and we keep our mouth shut. and we go to our restaurants and we take our kids to their games and I hear it all the time.

I hear it all the time. God has privileged me, my wife and I, we've been traveling for a little bit over a year. I guess we're at a couple years now, aren't we? evangelizing and everybody wants to talk about how terrible things are and doom and gloom and I get so frustrated because it takes me having to go to a general conference or NYC to remember that we are living in the best time to ever live and God has filled you with the Holy Ghost because we are to be a witness today. He didn't call the Apostle Peter to live in 2026. He didn't call the Apostle Paul to live in 2026. But he did call you. And the Bible says, "Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world."

Amen. If Peter could do it, if Paul could do it, then you can do it. Amen. You just have to get in touch with the overflow. We have got to live in the overflow. Amen. But too often we sit back and we if I can just make it to Sunday. If I can just make it to Sunday, maybe I'll just get enough inside of me to help me get to the next day. Amen. That priest, he had to march back and forth. And he had to get that source of that water. And that was a lot of work. Got to go here. See, that's what he was doing. He was getting to Sunday and he was just getting enough that he could go back and say, "God, I hope you'll do something."

And he's just pouring it out. That didn't work. Okay, God. Next Sunday, I'm going to march over here and I'm going to get enough and I'm going to pour it out. God, do you hear my prayers? And and sometimes God doesn't answer. And this was a ritual that went on and on and on. What if God didn't answer the prayer? They would wait one more year before they would come back and say, "Okay, God, here I'm going to pour this out." And there are people within the church who have been blessed, been blessed with apostolic families, been blessed with grandparents that prayed and they've gone so long. And Jesus is saying, you know what? That doesn't work anymore. That doesn't work anymore. I I want to change the entire scene.

You don't have to march back to Pentecost and remember the good old days just to get those goosebumps again. You don't have to march into Sunday and just get a small taste and say, "Man, that's good. But by Wednesday, I've got to come back in here again cuz I need a good inspiring word for p from pastor." And you know what? If he doesn't if he doesn't feed me, I'm going to be disappointed. or if the worship team doesn't do the right song, I'm going to be disappointed. And what it is is we're just marking marching back and forth and we're just pouring a little bit of water and we're just hoping for an increase. And God is saying, if you would just live in the overflow.

He that believeth on me, as the scriptures has said, he that believeth on me. Anybody in here say, "Hey, I'm a believer." Then out of your belly should flow rivers of living water. And everything that river touches will transform everything around you. Every person you come in contact with, when you walk into your workplace, when you walk into your schools, everybody is going to change because of that river of living water that's springing up out of you. Amen. Well, see too often the church wants to look like the world and Jesus is calling the world to change or Jesus is calling the church to change the world around it. That word overflow means to flow over the brim. It means to be filled completely beyond human capacity.

It means to run over. And God never intended for the Holy Ghost to be a rationed out measure in your life. And he didn't save you so that you could barely drag your feet across the finish line of heaven on spiritual life support. Amen. The other day, my son, he plays baseball. They had a chance to win this game. would have been their first win of the season. Brother Jason, you know a thing about baseball. Harrison's teammate went running for home and we were going crazy. We're about to win this game. We're about to tie the game at least. We got a person on third. We're gonna win this game. It's gonna be awesome. and he takes off running and that ball comes gets thrown to home plate and the catcher catches the ball and that kid doesn't slide.

He just runs right into the catcher out. Game over. And there was a crowd of witnesses there that went. We lost again. If he had just slid, he would have been safe. The ball was up here. The catcher came down, ran into. He would have been safe. The We could have that close. And yet too many in the church, that's how they're living their life spiritually. Boy, I hope the Lord doesn't come back today. Let me tell you when I wish the Lord wouldn't come back. When H Homeman leaves those Legos out and I step on it in the middle of the night, that's when I hope the Lord doesn't come back. You all will get there and be like, "Where's Hank at? He just preached the other day.

I think he stepped on a Lego. I believe that God wants to shift somebody in this house out of a survival mindset and pull you into a revival mindset. Which means that you have to stop praying just to survive the week. You have to stop praying just to barely make it past the devil's attacks. Amen. Because we serve a God without limits. We serve a God that says, "You are my child." We serve a God of abundance. We serve the God of the overflow. Amen. This cup right here is getting a little empty. But this is not the way in which you should get into heaven. Amen. He says, "I'm going to pour it out and it's going to overflow in the You have no reason to wonder whether you're going to make it to heaven or not."

Because if you're living in the overflow, you're living in abundance. Amen. There's great joy in living in the overflow. There's great benefits in living in the overflow. So, I've come to challenge somebody, you need to quit praying for a lighter load and you need to start praying for the overflow of his spirit because that right there, that's revival. You want to know what revival is? Revival is living in the overflow. So, there are three dimensions to this overflow that belongs to you right now. First is the overflow of joy. Psalm 16:11 says, "In thy presence is fullness of joy." So when the world around you is completely dry, your cup can run over because you're not digging in a dry well. When you're in his presence, you're plugged in into a eternal unfailing spring of life.

The Bible tells us that he inhabits the praises of his people. So I you know what? I'm just going to challenge you today. See, I can see your face. Won't you put a smile on that face? Smile a little bit. Amen. Put a little joy in your life. Amen. In his presence, there's fullness of joy. And we walk out of the we walk out of here today have a smile on our face. Let me tell you, the people at the restaurant are not going to know you came from church because you're wearing a suit and you ladies are in dresses. They're going to know that you come out of church because you're happy. Let me tell you about Jesus. Ain't nobody want to hear you walking around all depressed all the time.

You know the reason why we quit doing testimony services? See, some of you older folks, you're like, "He's too young to know about testimony services." But I came from Rockwood. We do everything old school. The reason why we quit doing testimony services is because we would say, "Anybody got a good testimony?" I need somebody to stand up and say, "The devil's been beating me up all week. I'm all black and blue." And it's like, "Sit down. Shut up." Sorry, Sister Depri. Anybody got a good testimony? Oh, well, I you know, I barely come dragon. Sit down. Like, you're making us all depress. Anybody got a good testimony in the house? Because I believe that in his presence is fullness of joy. Amen. Anybody got a good test?

Somebody stand up right now and give the Lord a hand clap of praise if you've got a good testimony. Some of you sitting right now, you need to be standing to your feet right now cuz you've got a testimony. We're talking about living in the overflow. Amen. I'm not dead. I'm not counted out. I'm the head. I'm not the tail. Amen. He's worthy. Hallelujah. Sit down. You're taking up my time. Second, there's an overflow of power. Acts chapter 18 says, "But you will receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you will get goosebumps." That's the wrong translation. Sorry about that. You will receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you and you will be what? Witnesses.

Witnesses. Oh man, all the introverts in the house just got terrified. I've got to what? He has given us strength to tread on serpents, overcome temptation, walk in absolute victory, and to be a witness all along the way. We have got to share what he has done for us. The enemy has zero power over a spiritfilled apostolic. Amen. who exercises the power that they have been given. Hallelujah. Amen. Some of us in the room heard exercise and already we're sore. Exercise the power we've been given. Third, there's an overflow of influence. John 7:38 says, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water." As I've said before, it's a river. It changes everything. The geography all around it, the landscape, people are drawn to rivers and people should be drawn to us.

See, a bucket, it can only hold so much. But a river, man, imagine if that priest every day was going back and forth from the he he couldn't even dry the river up. And Jesus is saying, "Hey, that river can't even touch me." I'm I'm never going to fail you. I'm never going to leave you. I'm never going to forsake you. You need me, call on my name and I will be there. How many of you have ever been to an amusement park and got on a water roller coaster? You know, the the best thing about the water roller coasters, it's all the spectators on the bottom and it's their first time being there and they don't know what's about to happen. That's the best part of those water roller coasters.

You go, you know, you come down and grandma's sitting there watching. She's got her camera ready. There's my grandbaby right there. And all of a sudden, that water, that ride hits that water and that water splashes all over them. They thought they were the spectator. I don't know. Maybe I I'm just a little bold enough to believe that if we were flowing and overflowing in the spirit that even those who have come into this place today to be spectators would get drowned in the overflow of the spirit. Amen. Who wants to see somebody baptized with the Holy Ghost? Amen. Who wants to see somebody healed today? Boy, you all are quiet. Let me turn my herinade up. How many of you want to see somebody healed today in the mighty name of Jesus?

How many of you want to see somebody baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues? See, I'm just bold enough to believe that I'm in an apostolic Pentecostal church where anything can happen. Anything could happen. And I believe that God wants to do it. Amen. Can we give the Lord a hand clap of praise? Our culture is desperately looking for authenticity. They're tired of dead religion and they want to see Jesus. And that's why Jesus told his disciples right before he went to the cross, he said in John 16:7, "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it's expedient for you that I go away. For if I go away, for if I go not away, the comforter, the Holy Ghost will not come unto you.

But if I depart, I will send him to you. I want you to think about that word expedient. It means it is to your absolute advantage. It is to your advantage. To your advantage. Okay. He He's given us all the benefits today. Jesus looked at that man who walked with him and talked with him and saw him calm the raging seas and he said, "You have been with me and yet you still need my spirit. You cannot do this by yourself. You can't do it with your doctor or your therapist. You can't do it with your professor. You can't rely on just family. You can't rely just on a book. Amen. You need my spirit. Ezekiel said that God would pour out his spirit within us and Joel said that he would pour out his spirit on all flesh.

So Jesus went to the cross as that spotless lamb to save you from your sins. And he said that I will pour out my spirit on you so that you can live in the overflow. And the best part is is that Jesus didn't send a substitute. Amen. No, he said, "I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you." My friends, the Holy Ghost is not a third separate cosmic entity. Amen. The Holy Ghost is the spirit of Jesus Christ himself. So that means that that same Holy Ghost when Jesus opened the blind eyes, when he raised the dead, that same Holy Ghost is what fills your mortal body today. Amen. That same spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. So why would we not want to live in the overflow?

Hallelujah. Why would we not want to live in the overflow? There's all kinds of benefits to living in the overflow. Amen. And so I like that word advantage. It means that no matter what I face, I can live in the comfort of his overflow. It means that I can be assured that no weapon formed against me will prosper. And I think that's worth getting excited about. I think that's worth praising him over. Amen. I think that's worth us standing to our feet and giving him a hand clap of praise. Come on, somebody stand up all across this place. He has given you an advantage. Amen. He has given you an advantage. He's given you the ability to witness. He's given you the ability to be courageous.

He's given you the ability to live in the overflow. I'll ask that our musicians come. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying today. I'm grateful for Pentecost and I'm grateful for our Pentecostal experience, but I don't want to just live in the past, but I want to walk boldly into the future. If the church just lived at Pentecost, they would have never got out of Jerusalem. In fact, I think that was their problem. And Jesus had to stir the nest up a little bit with a little persecution. See, they had got comfortable in Jerusalem. They had got comfortable at Pentecost. But when persecution came around, oh, it started spreading the church. And so perhaps today that thing that you've been praying, God, take it away, is the very tool that God has been using to get you out of your seat.

Amen. Yeah, God, I've been walking back and forth from the river and I've been pouring out with this golden picture water. It's my sacrifice to you. And Jesus is saying, "How about I do something better for you?" How about I give you an overflow of my spirit? Amen. Let me tell you about the overflow. The overflow has a way of making you do some crazy things. You ever heard somebody say Pentecostals are a little weird? See, I many of you know my story. I wasn't raised in this. And so, the first time I stepped foot in a Pentecostal church, I did more laughing at you because you all are crazy. And something's happened. But all of a sudden, we want to look all dignified and act like the world.

Amen. He called us to be different. And so, back in the spring, the Lord had opened up an opportunity for me to start teaching a Bible study to a lady that I had worked with for a really long time. And so, we started doing Bible studies over the phone. And I began to pray and I said, "God, which Bible study do you want me to teach? There's so many of them." And she's good old Baptist lady. She knows about Jesus. And so I thought, you know what? Let's just start in the book of Acts and let's just make our way down the book of Acts. You know what? The best Bible study is probably the Bible. So that's what we used. And so week after week, we met over this Bible study.

And one day she stopped me and she said, "Hank, is it bad that I never wanted the Holy Ghost?" I didn't say a word to her about needing the Holy Ghost, but when you're reading Acts, there's a lot of Holy Ghost in there. Amen. And I said, "Brenda, let me ask you a question. Are you asking me, is it bad that you didn't want the Holy Ghost? Or are you asking me, is it bad that you didn't know you could have the Holy Ghost? And she said, "Oh, no. It's that second part. Is it bad that I didn't know I could have the Holy Ghost?" And I said, "Well, let me tell you something. Now you know that you can have it." And she said, "And I want it."

And I said, "With an attitude like that, you'll get it." That's the kind of attitude you have to have. Do you want the Holy Ghost? I don't know. Well, you're not going to get it. Don't worry about it then. You want it? Yeah, I want it. Well, then you're going to get it. That's what God likes. God likes it when you say, "Hey, God, I want that." And you're the only one that can give it to me. Hey, Dad, I want it. You're the only one that can give it to me. Well, you know what, Brother Freeman. If you're stuck, call me and I'll come get you. Call dad up. Dad will give it to you. I told Bren, I said, "You're going to get it."

And she said, "I want it." Few weeks go by. I get a tag on Facebook from her. Jesus Tent Revival is coming to Goodletville, and she saw it on an ad. She tags me and she says, "When are we going?" And I said, "You tell me and" we'll go." Ly shows up. Patrick's there, too. And Brenda brings her Baptist pastor friend with her, Pastor Spanky. That's Tennessee. I said, "Spanky, I'm Hanky. It's nice to meet you. " Well, if you've ever been to a Jesus tent revival, this is what you got to understand. They go through the process. You got to repent of your sins, be baptized, fill the People are getting baptized even before the services happen. People are pulling in.

They're filling things. It is an absolute revival taking place. Amen. This is what I've learned. People are hungry. Amen. People in the denominal world are hungry. So I'm tired of hearing about Isuza Street and the Methodists and Presbyterians and the Baptists when there are churches today filled with people that are hungry for the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Murphy'sboro, Tennessee. Now, I hope I don't get in trouble for this since it's being live streamed, but I'm just going to go ahead and say it. We get to the part where they say, "Who needs the Holy Ghost?" And Brenda looks at Spanky and then looks at me and said, "Okay, let's go down to the front." And I said, "Well, let's go."

Well, last time I checked, there's only one of me. and she meant more to me than Pastor Spanky did. Just being honest. We've been working a long time with L and I've been working a long time on her. And so she's down on the front and she begins to pray. Holy Ghost is moving. Lay hands on her. And all of a sudden, stammering lips hits her. And as soon as it does, she opens her eye. She looks at me like this. And she said, "What is that?" And I said, "Brenda, that's the Holy Ghost." And she's like, "It feels like electricity." And I said, "Well, let's pray again." So, she starts praying. All of a sudden, she jerks and she looks at me and goes, "Hey, that feels like electricity."

And I'm thinking, "Will you just stopping? Let it flow." Amen. I look behind me. Pastor Spanky's all by himself back there just speaking in tongues going I'm looking at him and I'm looking at her and I'm like she told me he was a Baptist. I don't maybe maybe that's not true. I don't know. And so she starts praying again that third time. She looks up at me and I'm like will you just stop just pray in tongues. Just do it. So I said, "Brenda, turn around and look." She turned around, looked. I said, "You see Spanky?" And she said, "Yeah." I said, "That's what you're going to do." And she said, "Oh, okay." Well, then she started doing that.

God filled her with the Holy Ghost right there at the Jesus Tent Revival. So I make my way to Pastor Spanky and I said, "Hey, brother, you ever done this before?" He said, "No, first time." I said, "Because I'm never going to tell you you got the Holy Ghost. You got to tell me you got the Holy Ghost." I said, "Let me ask you a question. Did you hear yourself speaking in tongues?" He said, "If that's not tongues, I don't know what is." And I said, "I agree with you, buddy. That's exactly what that is." Now, that's Pentecost. And I'm grateful for Pentecost. All right, but let me get you to tabernacles because just a few weeks later, I'm on the phone teaching the Bible study and Brenda goes, "Hank, have you talked to Spanky lately?"

She said, "You need to call him." I thought, "Oh, no." You know, cuz I'm a negative Pentecostal, too. But you thought I was just talking to you. I was preaching to myself this whole time. Oh, here we go. What happened? So, I call him up. He answers the phone. He's so happy. On the other side of the phone, I said, "Hey, bro." I said, "Brenda told me I need to call you." I said, "What's going on?" He said, "Hank." He said, "Ever since I come back from that revival," he said, "God has shaken me." He said, "There's a fire inside of me." He said, "I marched into my church the other day." He said, "There's like 20 of us." He said, "I'm so tired of dead church."

He said, "I walked up on the platform. I grabbed the microphone. We hadn't even started the music yet." And he said, "I'm so frustrated with all of you." He said, "I went to a Pentecostal revival and God filled me with the Holy Ghost and I spoke in tongues and I saw all these people that are hungry. And I'm so sick and tired of this church being dead and dry. And I'm tired of religion. We need the Holy Ghost in this place. I said, "Are you still a pastor in the church?" He said, "Barely." He said, "But let me tell you something that you don't know, Hank." He said, "Just two months before that revival," he said, "I had a heart attack and I died."

And he said, "They brought me back." And he said, "I had been praying, God, why did you bring me back?" And he said, "I have figured it out." He has brought me back from the dead because I have a message that I've got to share with somebody. My friends, we've got to get past Pentecost. We've got to get to tabernacles cuz there's a great harvest ahead. Amen. There's a harvest in this community. Come on, somebody. These altars are open right now. I can't preach anymore. I'm tired. You all make your way down to the front right now. Come on, somebody. Lift their hands right now. Oh, I don't want just a taste. I don't want just a sip. I want to overflow.

I want to live in the overflow.
