Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Two Texts: Fervent Prayer and the Church That Never Stopped Praying
- He opens with praise for the conference preaching, says he will not be long, and notes that Charles Robinette is coming behind him.
- He reads James 5:16 — confess your faults one to another and pray one for another, that you may be healed — and stresses a second rendering of its close: the prayer of a good person has a powerful effect.
- He reads Acts 12:5: Peter was kept in prison, but prayer was made without ceasing by the church; in another rendering, while Peter was kept in jail, the church never stopped praying.
- He announces his title, “Tighten Your Belt and Put On Your Sandals,” and leads the house in praise.
Scriptures: James 5:16; Acts 12:5
Three Jail Breaks in the Book of Acts
- He observes that there are three jail breaks in the book of Acts, and he sketches the pattern of each.
- In Acts 5, an angel simply shows up and sets the apostles free.
- In Acts 12 — the chapter he will preach from today — Peter is in jail and the church prays him out.
- In Acts 16, Paul and Silas are delivered after they start singing praises.
- He says he has a delivering word for someone in the room, and that the Lord is going to do some delivering today.
Scriptures: Acts 5; Acts 12; Acts 16
End-Time Prayer for the End-Time Hour
- He says no one in the room would dispute that these are prophetic times at the edge of eternity: the headlines line up with the signs — wars and rumors of wars, nation rising against nation, the love of many waxing cold, evil called good and good evil — and the rapture of the church is imminent.
- He believes an end-time revival will take place before the trumpet sounds, that the church will not go out weak or barely holding on but caught up in glory, power, and anointing, and that God has saved His best for last.
- That revival will not come to a casual, complacent, or sleepy church, because revival is birthed in prayer; if this is the end-time hour, it needs end-time prayer.
- He rolls out the catalogue of the prayer needed: prayer that shakes cities, breaks chains, opens prison doors, pulls down strongholds, opens the heavens, silences the enemy, releases fire, brings down revival, turns nations upside down, unlocks the impossible, and ushers in the glory of God.
The Church the Devil Fears
- The church must be structured and organized, he allows, but the devil is not afraid of a church that only strategizes and plans, or entertains, or goes through the motions, or has a name but no power, or shouts without substance.
- What the devil fears is a Pentecostal praying church: he names the pattern of moments and places, from the Spirit's outpouring and Peter's jail deliverance to Bonnie Bray and Azusa Street and a roll of Pentecostal churches.
- Jesus declared to Peter that He would build His church upon the rock, and sealed it with the promise that nothing would stop it, including the gates of hell.
- Knowing nothing about air conditioning, he tells of spec'ing a large Trane unit to cool the old sanctuary and taking the maker's motto as a word for the church: “Nothing can stop a train.” Nothing can stop the church of the living God, either, or the move of the Holy Ghost.
- He calls for a freight-train move of the Spirit in the house that mows down everything in its way, tears down strongholds, and brings victory.
The Adversary Exposed — and the God Beside Whom There Is None Else
- He reminds the church to be vigilant: the adversary is still on the prowl against the church, relentless in his schemes — the same devil from the Garden of Eden, the accuser who has lied to believers about their past, divided marriages, and caused preachers to stumble.
- He traces the adversary's end: the devil will possess the body of a man who proclaims himself God — the Antichrist — and set up his throne on the Temple Mount in the abomination of desolation; but then the real King of kings and Lord of lords will show up.
- That coming God is the one Isaiah proclaimed some 2,700 years ago, in chapters 45 and 46: “I am God, and there is none else.” Jesus, that Old Testament God robed in flesh, will rule and reign on this earth for a thousand years.
- Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is King — he rolls through a long list of celebrities, athletes, officials, cities, and institutions that will bow — so the church might as well shout now rather than wait until the battle is over.
Scriptures: Isaiah 45; Isaiah 46
Willie Johnson: The Woman Whose Singing Stopped a Suicide
- Mid-message he pauses: he asked Sophia to come up and she declined on him, and he jokes about trying to preach like Sam Emery, who texted back, “Dr. Martin, you got it under control.”
- He shows a photograph and introduces the young people to Willie Johnson, whom he met when he was seven years old in his parents' kitchen, and says she needs to be understood by every young person in the room.
- Born in 1905, the granddaughter of a slave, looked down on because of her mixed parentage, she was sold by her mother into an abusive marriage; beaten by her husband and in despair while in West Virginia, she was headed toward a bridge spanning the Ohio River to take her life.
- Walking toward the bridge, she heard singing coming from a Pentecostal church; she walked in, and God baptized her with the Holy Ghost.
- She evangelized from the 1930s into the 1980s, and while evangelizing she laid hands on a teenage young man's head and God baptized him with the Holy Ghost — Jack Yance; without Willie Johnson, he reasons, there might be no Jack Yance, no Christmas for Christ, and no North American Missions.
- In this church's own history, she walked up to Jack Myers, the grandfather of this church's pastor, told him he had a nicotine problem, and laid hands on him; he later said something churned in his stomach, he spit up a black mess, and he never touched another cigarette.
Take Off Your Dancing Shoes: His Mother's Conversion in 1947
- He turns to the other woman in the photograph, his mother, who was on a route to be a Hawaiian dancer, singing and dancing the blues.
- His grandmother urged her to go to the church on New York Street and hear the lady preacher, saying she sings the blues like her; his mother agreed to go, but vowed that when the altar-call stuff started, she was out the door.
- In the middle of the preaching in 1947, with racism running rampant, the lady preacher pointed her finger at a woman she did not know and said, “Take off your dancing shoes, dancing girl.”
- His mother hit the altar and God baptized her with the Holy Ghost; he says this is in his veins.
Preachers Under Fire Must Not Quit
- In Acts 4, Peter and John preached boldly in the name of Jesus, were arrested and threatened and ordered to stop speaking — Satan working through human opposition — but the early church knew the power of the message and pressed on in faith.
- Willie Johnson likewise kept pressing on, though her husband beat her, busted her mouth, took her money, and left her to sleep outside; and God intervened in her planned suicide.
- He challenges every preacher and young preacher in the room to remain steadfast to the calling: the enemy tries to silence the voice of truth, but God's word cannot be contained, and he begins to declare that he is not ashamed of the gospel.
- The adversary works to discourage preachers and stress their wives, wearing the preacher down; but he heeds Paul's words — hard pressed on every side but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed.
- He goes to the old prophet Isaiah, who said in chapter 40 that God gives strength to the weary and increases power to the weak.
- Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 2:18 that he wanted to come to them again and again, but Satan blocked the way; Peter faced the same hindrance, bound in prison simply for proclaiming the gospel, except that the church was fervently praying for him.
- Revelation 8:3 says the prayers of the saints rise up before God, and so the church needs to pray for the preacher and the ministry like never before.
Scriptures: Acts 4; Isaiah 40; 1 Thessalonians 2:18; Revelation 8:3
Acts 12 Read as a Story: The Angel's Command
- With a mentor's clearance, he reads Acts 12 in a different translation, in story form.
- About that time King Herod began to persecute members of the church: James the brother of John was put to death by the sword, and when it pleased the Jews, Peter was arrested during the Festival of Unleavened Bread and handed over to four groups of four soldiers.
- The night before Herod was to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two guards, tied with two chains, with guards on duty at the gate — while the people of the church were praying earnestly to God for him.
- Suddenly an angel of the Lord stood there and a light shone in the cell; the angel shook Peter awake, the chains fell off his hands, and the angel said, “Tighten your belt and put on your sandals,” then, “Put your cloak around you and come with me.”
- Peter followed him out of the prison, not knowing whether what the angel was doing was real or a vision.
If We Lose the Voice of the Preacher, We're in Trouble
- He proclaims to every preacher in the room: other preachers are for you, your spouse is for you, your kids are for you, the saints of God are for you, and God is for you — and if God is for you, who can be against you? Yet the adversary is still against the preacher.
- The preacher stands at the top of the adversary's hit list, because it is the preacher's voice that counsels, guides, comforts, leads the sheep, and cautions; if that voice can be muzzled, chained, imprisoned, or locked up, how shall anyone be saved?
- A saint from one of his church's campuses — not a singer, not one who really participates — called him while sickly and nervous, hemming and hawing, until she finally said what she had called for: “I just wanted to hear the voice of my pastor.”
- What he misses most about his mother is the touch of her hand; about his dad, it is his voice — and if we lose the voice of the preacher, he says, we are in big trouble, and those who cannot hear it have no shot.
This Is That Church: Preach at Me, Preacher
- This is the end-time, last hour, with the clock ticking on the rapture; preachers ought to be more lively, demonstrative, and emotional than ever, and preaching ought to do damage on hell — shaking buildings and foundations, tearing down strongholds, cracking chains, stirring altars, exposing devils, and igniting revival.
- The non-preachers are not off the hook: rather than sitting with legs crossed and staring down a sophisticated nose, the saints ought to be on their feet urging the preacher on; he leads the house in calling out, “Preach at me, preacher — don't tell me what I want to hear; tell me what I need to hear.”
- He unpacks the deliverance word “yasha,” a point he says he cleared with his executive pastor, Pastor Kirk: when two or three pray together for deliverance, Yahashua is about to show up — and without Him, two or three thousand have nothing.
- He would take three little old ladies calling on the name of Jesus and praying in the Holy Ghost over the courthouse prayer breakfasts and flagpole gatherings, because when the church prays, something has to happen.
- This is that church — not the dead, apathetic, listless church, nor the church of Laodicea, but the one Joel talked about and Peter followed up on the day of Pentecost, when God said He would pour out His Spirit on all flesh with the former rain and the latter rain; the one Isaiah spoke of with stammering lips and another tongue; the one built on the rock, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail — the one-God, Jesus-name, Holy Ghost church with the gifts of the Spirit in operation.
Pray Them Out: The Saints Gather Behind the Ministry
- He recalls that it was the saints of God who bailed the preacher out of prison and delivered him, and he asks all the preachers and their wives to come and stand in front of the podium while the young people clear back to give them room.
- Over them he declares: you are coming out — the jail cannot hold you, the chains cannot stop you, and there is nothing the jailer can do about it.
- He says his own wife will not like him telling it, but she has been in severe pain, and he believes there is power in the Holy Ghost through the prayers of the saints.
- He sets the preachers to praying and directs the saints to gather in behind the ministry and pray them out, calling, “Come on saints, help me pray.”
- The capture ends there, in the middle of that appeal, with him still leading the saints in prayer for the preachers; no benediction or dismissal is heard.

There has been some incredible, well not just some, all the preaching has been incredible, but I feel like there's been a dying out and opening up and so forth. But I do feel like that Lord might wanna give us a touch of victory here in this setting this morning. Amen. And I will not be long. I've got Charles Robinette, the flamethrower coming behind me. Some will get out of the way before I get burned. Amen. He's gonna come with all the fire. And love and appreciate he and Stacey. James chapter five and verse 16. I can't think if I've left anything out. I don't know if I have or not, but we'll just have to go with it, amen. Confess your faults one to another. Pray one for another that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. One translation says of that verse. So then confess your sins to one another and pray for one another. So you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect. Acts 12 and verse five, one more verse. Peter therefore was kept in prison, but prayer was made without ceasing of the church and the God for him. And another translation of that says, while Peter was kept in jail, while Peter was being kept in jail, the church never stopped praying. The church never stopped praying.
I would like to bring your attention to just a quick note here. There are three jail breaks in the book of Acts, three. Acts chapter five, an angel just shows up and boom, sets them free. In our text, and what we will preach about here today is in Acts chapter 12. Peter is in jail and the church prays him out of jail. And then the third one is in Acts chapter 16, Paul and Silas wait for it, started singing praises. They were singing the praises. Well, I have this on me to speak to someone I've already spoke to an individual, but I feel like the Lord's gonna do some delivering here today. The title of my message is tighten your belt and put on your sandals. Amen. Tighten your belt and put on your sandals. Would you lift your hands all over the place? Let's entertain the presence of the Lord. I must satia randa, I sat. Praise God, praise God, praise God, praise God. I know you've been standing. Come on clap your hands again church and just give him some praise in this house. Hey, yeah. Oh, come on, I feel like the angels of the Lord are coming in this building right now. Adiyama, ha satah. Thank you, God bless you BC, you're a great crowd. You may be seated.
There undoubtedly isn't anyone in this room that would press back on the fact that we are living in prophetic times and standing at the edge of eternity. Prayerfully we are watching biblical prophecies unfold right before our eyes. The headlines you view are without question, lining up verse by verse. Wars and rumors of wars. Nation rising against nation. The love of many waxing cold. Evil being called good and good being called evil. And yet every sign points directly and declares that the rapture of the church is imminent. And without question, we are on the precipice of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet I also believe that before the trumpet sounds and the Bible and the bride, excuse me, is caught away, there will be an end time revival take place in the church. As a matter of fact, I believe that we are in the midst of that end time revival. For this great church that we are part of, it will not go out weak. It will not be defeated or barely holding on. But she's gonna be caught up with glory, in power, in anointing, and in revival. This is the last chapter of human history. And I truly believe that God has saved his best for last. And in this end time revival, it will not come to a casual, complacent, nor sleepy church. For the revival is birth in prayer. And if it really is the end time hour, then we need end time prayer for the end time hour. Is it all right if I touch on prayer for just a few minutes?
We need delivering prayer, which is what our text is made up of. We need prayer that shakes cities. We need prayer that breaks chains. We need prayer that opens up prison doors. We need prayer that pulls down strongholds. We need prayer that opens up the heavens. We need prayer that silences the enemy. We need prayer that releases fire. We need prayer that brings down revival. We need prayer that turns nations upside down. We need prayer that unlocks the impossible. We need prayer that ushers in the glory of God. Come on, somebody help me out. We need prayer that puts a crater in hell itself. Clap your hands if you believe it.
The church obviously has to be structured and organized. That has to take place in order for everything to happen. But I've come to proclaim that the devil is not afraid of a church that just strategizes and plans. The devil is not afraid of a church that just entertains. The devil is not afraid of a church that goes through the motions. The devil is not afraid of a church that has a name but no power. The devil is not afraid of a church that shouts without substance. But what he truly fears is a Mount Carmel fire falling. Acts two, Acts 12, Bonnie Bray, Azusa Street, River of Life, Cathedral of Pentecost, Tree of Life, Living Way, Abound in Grace, Hope Center, Temple Christian Center, East Wind. I said the devil fears a Pentecostal praying church. I said the devil fears a Pentecostal praying church. If we'll pray, we'll tear down the devil's strongholds. Clap your hands and give God praise. I see somebody getting excited about prayer. Somebody's praising God about prayer.
Jesus declared to Peter one of the most profound, encouraging and revival minded statements. What he said upon this rock, he would build his church. And then he emphatically sealed it with his words because you see his words are life and they are light. And this is what he said to make the emphasis. That nothing would stop this church, including the gates of hell. I know you know it, but I'm gonna proclaim it again here on a Friday morning. Nothing can stop the church and nothing will stop this church. You know, I thought that pastor was just about preaching and I thought it was just preaching and praying for people. And then I realized that you have to be a jack of all. And then I realized that you have to be a jack of all trades and that when the air conditioning units go down, you gotta figure out how to fix them. Are y'all with me? I don't know anything about air conditioning units. So they said, we gotta give this big ton unit, 20 ton unit to cool down the sanctuary of the old church where we were. And so I said, well, I don't know anything about it. And they said, well, what's the best unit to buy? And they said it's a train unit and I spelled T-R-A-N-E, train unit. And so we said, okay, we'll get the train unit. And then looking at the train unit and making sure we had, because it's gonna cost a lot of money. To me, I looked at it and this is what their logo was. Nothing can stop a train. Now that's the best motto that I've ever seen before. Nothing can stop a train. You know what else cannot be stopped is the church of the living God. And you know what else can't be stopped is when the move of the Holy Ghost comes in. And so I say this, I like it when it's a freight train spirit when it comes in and just starts mowing down everything in its way. I believe that God could set us up for a freight train spirit in this place that can tear down strongholds and see victory in the house. Clap your hands and give God some praise.
Yet I wanna mind the church to be vigilant. But just as in our text, the adversary is still on the prow. He's trying to stop the church. He is relentless in his schemes and his devices. He knows he is doomed, but he is still relenting and he is persistent. May I remind you that when you face obstacles, difficulties and hindrances and you wonder who it is to blame. It is more than just the mere man or woman that highly offended you and that was preached to us last night. More than just the naysayer or the critic. But it's the same problem that's been since the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden. It's that same thing that we've been taught in the Sunday school class. It's that dirty old devil. That sly old fox. And I've come this morning to expose him once again. I've come to talk about that wicked devil, that adversary, that antagonist, that lying, cheating, beguiling, snare setter. I wanna inform you that he is still at it. That devil who has divided marriages and caused preachers to stumble. That devil who has shamed young ladies and dismantled worship leaders. That band leader of backsliders. That dirty, deranged, foul mouth deceitful devil. That has been, I feel I'm walking in the Holy Ghost now. That has been your accuser for years and years. Lying to you about your past and dangling in your face. Trying to tell you that it still exists. But I've come to proclaim that his day of reckoning is coming for in the end, there's gonna be a rapture of the church. And he's going to possess the body of a man. He's going to proclaim that he is God. That man will be the Antichrist. He'll give all the answers to the world's problems. Not only the Jews, but the entire world. That he really is God. He's gonna set up his throne on the Temple Mount. It will be known as the Abomination of Desolation. But about that time, the real king of kings. Hey, I said the real king of kings and the real Lord of lords is gonna show up the real God that already proclaimed by the prophet Isaiah 2,700 years ago in chapters 45 and 46 that I am God and there is none else. And Jesus, that Old Testament God, robed in flesh, he's gonna rule and reign on this earth for a thousand years. Clap your hands and give God praise. I feel something moving in this house.
And you know what he's gonna do? He's gonna take that dirty, no good lion, cheating, stealing, killing devil. He's gonna knock him off his throne. He's gonna proclaim that I am God and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that he is king of kings. And Lord, I said every knee shall bow. I said every knee shall bow. I said every knee shall bow. Can I go ahead and preach it for a minute? And Tiger Woods is gonna bow down and Taylor Swift is gonna bow down and Charles Barkley's gonna bow down. I'm bringing it this morning and Gavin Newsom is gonna bow down and Vladimir Putin is gonna bow down and Oprah is gonna bow down and Michael Jordan's gonna bow down and Ronaldo is gonna bow down and Jay-Z is gonna bow down and Warren Buffett and Brad Pitt, Kim John-Un and Lady Gaga, Donald Trump and Derek Jeter, Elon Musk and Barack Obama, Tom Brady and 50 Cent is gonna, Howard Stern is gonna bow down and the Pope, I said the Pope, I said the Pope is gonna bow down. I said, you're gonna wait til the battle's over. You might as well shout now. I said, you might as well shout. Come on, praise him for just a moment. Praise him for just a moment. And every judge and every mayor and every lawmaker and every senator and every congressman and every president and every ambassador and all of Hollywood and all of New York City, Houston, Texas and Las Vegas and Michigan and Utah, New Jersey and Kentucky and I'm gonna go ahead and say it and the ACLU and the LDS and the NBA and the LGBTQ, they're gonna bow down. Somebody clap your hands and shout, yeah. Somebody clap your hands and shout, yeah. Turn to three people and tell them they're gonna bow down. I gotta shut this train down for just a minute.
Ask Sophia to come up in the middle of my message and she declined on me. Can you believe that? I gotta shut this train down for just a minute. Why is he preaching like that? Who's he thinking is? Sam Emery? I just wish I could preach like Slam and Sammy. I texted him, I asked if he's gonna come down here and hear me preach, try to preach like him. He said, oh, Dr. Martin, you got it under control. I've listened to Sam Emery preach that Youth Congress message so many times. I think I can do Sam better than Sam can do Sam.
So check out this picture. So the lady, sorry, this gonna take me a minute to get through this. Some of you know young people, you need to know who this lady is on the right. I know the Myers family, because I'm gonna touch on this. I'll get to that lady, that knockout hot lady on the left. I'll get to her in just a minute. But that lady on the right, very, very pretty lady on the right. Her name is Willie Johnson.
And Willie Johnson, I met her when I was seven years old in my parents kitchen. And she needs to be understood by every one of these young people in this room. She was a granddaughter of a slave. Her mother was black. Her dad was a white senator. She was born in 1905. And she was looked down upon, obviously that was with racism running rampant in 1905. But she was looked down upon for being in a mixed race. It was desperate times. And her mother sold her because her dad was basically denying who she was. And her mother sold her to an extremely abusive man into an abusive marriage. And her husband beat her. He beat her. And she became so discouraged with it and so depressed that while she was in West Virginia, she decided she could not take the abuse any longer. And so she was headed towards a bridge that spanned the Ohio River. James Stark told me, he said, I know where that bridge is. Ready to jump off the bridge and take her life. But while she was walking towards the bridge, she heard singing coming from a Pentecostal church. Now wait a minute, I'm a preacher and I'm a prayer warrior and I'm preaching about those two things. But she heard singing coming from a Pentecostal church. That's what we do. I need to be kidding. This is in my notes, I feel like I'm gonna take off meddling here for just a moment. You know, I get sometimes tired of preachers throwing our worst of teams under the bus. Well, we don't need your talent. We don't need your ability. All we need, and I was like, yeah, well, that sounds good. Let's see you try it though and see if it works. Let's see you get four folks up here. And I'm not talking about the Elms crew. Let's see if you get four folks up here and they can't carry a note and there's no drummer. And we'll see how that works and it turns into total chaos.
But she heard singing coming from a Pentecostal church and she walked into that church and God baptized her with the Holy Ghost. She became an evangelist, a black lady evangelist, evangelizing in the 30s, the 40s, the 50s all the way up until the 80s. And while evangelizing, hear me when I preach this church, you preachers and I know many of you, most of you know this, but while evangelizing, she laid hands on a teenage young man's head and God baptized him with the Holy Ghost. Maybe you've heard of him before. His name was Jack Yance. Maybe if there's no Willie Johnson, there's a chance there's not a Jack Yance. And if there's no Jack Yance, there could be that there's no Christmas for Christ. And if there's no Christmas for Christ, there's no North American missions. I'm thankful in the outset for Willie Johnson praying for Jack Yance.
Pastor David Myers is the pastor of this church. His father, Bishop Myers, but Pastor Myers' grandfather, his name was Jack Myers. And Jack Myers was playing games with God. While the bishop was at Bible, I'm preaching about this church right here, the history of this church. And while the bishop of this church was trying to get his life together in Bible college and grandpa, dad and grandpa Jack Myers playing games with God. They tried to get him to go to this church. He said, I'm not gonna go. Here's some lady preacher. He walked in the church and Willie Johnson walked up to him and said, you've got a nicotine problem. Pointed her finger at him, laid hands on him. He later said something started churning to his stomach and he spit up some black mess and he never touched another cigarette.
After that, I'm talking about a woman of God which brings me to the woman on the left. And that obviously is my mother. And so my mother, my mother was very pretty. Not that that's everything that matters, but she was. And so my grandmother was trying to get my mom because my mom was on a route to be a Hawaiian dancer, singing and dancing the blues, imagine that. And so my grandmother's trying to get my mom off that track and she says, Margie, she says, I want you to go to this church on New York street. It's still there. The church is still on New York street in Annapolis. I'm sorry. And so she says, I want you to go hear this lady and they say that she sings the blues like you. Sorry, I'm getting emotional preaching this. She said, let's go and let's just check her out. And my mom said, okay, mom, that's fine, I'll go. But when they start that alter call stuff, I'm out the door.
And while in the middle of preaching in 1947, with racism running rampant, a black lady preacher stood in a pulpit and pointed her finger at my mother that she did not know. And she said, take off your dancing shoes, dancing girl. And my mother hit the altar and God baptized her with the Holy Ghost. Hey, I've come to tell you it's in my vein. It's in my vein. I said it's in my vein. The blood is running cold in my vein. Hey, my mom went to a meeting one night. Her heart wasn't right, but something got a hold of her. If you're thankful that God saved your cup, your hands and give him praise. Thank you for the saving grace of God.
In Acts chapter four, when Peter and John preached boldly in the name of Jesus, they were arrested, they were threatened, they were ordered to stop speaking. Satan once again doing what he does, working through human opposition. But the early church knew the power of the message and they chose to press on in faith. Despite all that they were up against, they kept fighting for the kingdom. I'm glad in spite of everything that was up against her, when her husband would beat her and leave her on the front porch and make her sleep outside, beat her with a thick belt, not a regular belt, bust her mouth and leave her out there and take her money. But I'm glad that she kept pressing on. I'm glad that God intervened on a committed suicide. I'm glad that God took over and I've come to proclaim that today we face opposition for the world is already set up to ridicule preachers, to mop the gospel and attempt to shut churches down. But the call of the preacher, the call to preach still remains and the enemy may try to silence the voice of truth but God's word cannot be contained. I challenge every preacher and every young preacher in this room to remain steadfast to your calling, knowing that the opposition is to be expected but I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for as the pow clap your hands and give God praise. If you will. Thank you, I appreciate you're helping me. Don't quit on me, thank you, you're helping me. Amen, amen.
Just like the apostles, the adversaries out to discourage preachers. Hallelujah, he's out to discourage men of God and their wives trying to get the preacher's wife stressed out I wish I could get a witness. Amen, if he can wear the preacher down, if he can cause him to become mentally zapped somehow in his labor, he knows that he is making progress but I heed to Paul's words when he said, we are hard pressed on every side but not crushed. He said, we are perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed and I go to the old prophet Isaiah when he said in chapter 40 that he gives strength to the weary and increases power of the weak. The enemy has always tried to come in and stop God's preacher but the bottom line is God's word cannot and never will be stopped. So those of you who preach the word, whether from a pulpit in a classroom, it's been referenced in the incredible preaching here. On everyday conversations, you are not alone. I said you are not alone. God has called you, God has equipped you. He is with you every step of the way and the church needs to support the ministry like never before. The church needs to support the preacher, the preacher needs the church.
First Thessalonians 2.18 Paul writes, he said, for we wanted to come to you, certainly I, Paul did and again and again. This is what he said but Satan blocked our way. That's what he said. He said Satan blocked our way and Paul had a passion for preaching the gospel of Jesus but he encountered opposition from Satan and so it is in Acts chapter 12. The same thing with Peter. Just trying to proclaim the gospel didn't do anything wrong, didn't break the law, didn't do anything out of sorts but Satan and his fools now have kept him and bound him up in prison. But he's got a problem. That the church was fervently praying for him. Revelation chapter 8 in verse three says that the prayers of the saints rise up before God. You know what the church needs to do like never before? The church needs to pray for the preacher. I know you do. I know I'm preaching something you already know but I'm just re-emphasizing that the church needs to pray for the ministry and the preacher clap your hands if you believe it. Stay with me. Stay with me if you would.
So Acts chapter 12 and then what I'm gonna do here, I cleared it with one of my mentors, I cleared it and he said, yeah, it's okay. If you'd told me no, I wouldn't have done it. I'm gonna read a different translation, all right. And I'm not giving it to you to be this direct word but I'm reading it like it's in story form. Is that okay? So I'm reading this translation in Acts chapter 12. This is our setting, our subject matter. About this time, King Herod began to persecute some members of the church. He had James the brother of John put to death by the sword and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he went ahead and had Peter arrested. This happened during the time of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. After his arrest, Peter was put in jail, right? Where he was handed over to be guarded by four groups of four soldiers each. Herod planned to put him on trial in public after the Passover. So Peter, this is the preacher, was kept in jail but the people of the church were praying earnestly to God for him. And the night before Herod was going to bring him out to the people, Peter was sleeping between two guards. He was tied with two chains and there were guards on duty at the prison gate. And suddenly an angel of the Lord stood there and a light shone in the cell and the angels shook Peter by the shoulder, woke him up and said, hurry, get up. At once the chains fell off Peter's hands and then the angel said, tighten your belt and put on your sandals. The angel said, tighten your belt and put on your sandals. And Peter did so and the angel said, put your cloak around you and come with me. And Peter followed him out of the prison not knowing however if what the angel was doing was real he thought that he was seeing a vision.
I've come to let every preacher in this room know. I know that this used to be a primarily youth conference and it still is but I've come to touch on preachers here for just a moment. I want every preacher in this room to know that I am for you. I wanna proclaim that other preachers are for you. Your spouse is for you. Your kids are for you. The saints of God are for you. And God is for you. And God is for you. Who can be against? As much as everyone is for you the adversary is still against you. I said the adversary is still against you. It's still the preacher that's at the top of his hit list. It's the ways of the preacher. It's the workings and the doings of the preacher. It is the voice of the preacher. If he can muzzle the voice of God's man how shall anyone be saved? If he can shut down God's man. If he can chain up and imprison God's man. If he can lock up God's man. For it is the voice of the preacher that counsels. It is the voice of the preacher that guides. It is his voice that comforts. It is his voice that leads the sheep. And his voice that cautions.
Well I'm thankful that we have saints here from both campuses and it was the Fisher's campus that a lady called me one day. I'm sorry to be emotional with this. But she called me and she doesn't really participate in the church. She's not a singer. She pays her tithes. Amen but she was in a place of feeling extremely sickly. And I knew she didn't feel well. Feel well. And so she called me and I could tell she was a little nervous talking to her pastor. And so she kinda him hauled around a little bit. I just sat there and listened. I wanted to hear it and she was just kinda mumbling around and all of a sudden she stopped and she said I just wanted to hear the voice of my pastor. She said I just wanted to hear the voice of my pastor. If there's anything I miss the most about my mother it's her touch with her hand. But with my dad it's his voice. If I could just hear his voice one more time. Hey, if we lose the voice of the preacher we're in big trouble. I said if we lose the voice of the preacher we're in big trouble. I'm repeating myself. If they don't hear the voice of the preacher they've got no shot clapped your hands if you believe.
This is the end time hour. This is the last hour. The clock is ticking on the rapture of the church. We've got to win the lost. And if they can't hear the preacher then maybe the preacher oughta yell a little louder unless you're Mark Morgan you can sit up here and just spill it all out. I'm like I don't have that in my brain to do that. So I just gotta scream and yell a little bit. If this is the end time hour then the preacher oughta be more lively than he's ever been. He oughta be more demonstrative than he's ever been. He oughta be more emotional than he's ever been. Preaching oughta still do damage on hell. Preaching oughta shake buildings and tear down strongholds. Preaching oughta make demons nervous and saints bold. Preaching oughta crack open the chains of bondage. Preaching oughta shake the foundation. Preaching oughta stir altars and shake pews. Preaching oughta expose devils and ignite revival. Preaching oughta leave hell shaken and heaven rejoicing. Sinners oughta squirm when the preacher's in the pulpit. I'm sure it's with you but when I step in the pulpit on Sunday devils start scrambling and wondering what's going on because the word of God is. Clap your hands and give him praise like you've lost your mind.
And the nonpreacher's off the hook. If your pastor's preaching you don't need to just sit there and stare at him with your legs crossed, staring down your sophisticated nose. You oughta be on your feet and saying go ahead preacher and preach. Tell the preacher don't tell me what I need to hear. Go ahead pastor, go ahead bishop, go ahead evangelist and preach. You need to preach. Somebody shout amen. Let's try it. Somebody shout amen. Somebody shout preach. You gotta sing it a little bit. Somebody shout preach. Somebody shout preach. Somebody say stay with it. Somebody say I know that's right. Somebody shout well go ahead. Go ahead preacher. Go ahead preacher. Go ahead preacher. Clap your hands and give God praise. Preach at me. Preach at me. Sank me with the word of God. Tell me what I wanna hear. Tell me what I need to hear. Stir my soul preacher. Preach me under conviction. Preach me into the altar. Preach me to my knees. Preach me out of my flesh. Preach me until I repent. Preach me until my pride breaks. Preach me until I can't sit still. Preach, I want the singing but I want the preacher. Don't tell me what I wanna hear. Tell me what I need. Come on clap your hands and praise him like you've lost your mind. Hey. You're not almost shut up. You're not almost shut up. Preach until I can't sit still. Preach until I squirm. Preach me into the fire. Preach me until heaven opens up. Preach the chains off of me. Preach, preach, preach, preach, preach. You folks are primarily saints. Turn toward these folks and holler. Preach at me preacher. Preach at me preacher. Point at him. Preach at me preacher. And say this, don't tell me what. You can't say it if you don't mean it. Point at him and say, don't tell me what I want me to hear. Y'all are killing me too old for this mess.
Who said 50 none of your business. That's over. Pastor Elms, next month it's all over. Watch this. I'm getting pretty close. Sort of, let's see how many people are watching this.
He says one, two, three, four, seven, eight. Sort of close. You might as well just stand up as good stuff. If you were at Cameron, if you were at Cameron Indoor Arena, watch a Duke basketball game, you'd be standing the entire game for the whole game for two hours. Thrilled my executive pastors here, Pastor Kirk. He's brilliant. I checked him on this and he cleared me on it. Listen to this.
So, so when you get two or three praying together, well, let me go back here. Two or three. When you deliverance, okay, let me retract. Deliverance is Greek word yasha. Okay? Greek word yasha. And so when you get two or three praying together for yasha, then Yahashua is about to show up. I don't care if you have two or 3,000. If you don't have Yahashua, you got nothing. Now we do it all and I'm not slamming it. I'm not throwing it and we'll continue to do it. But if you want, you can have the County Courthouse, Mayor Prayer Breakfast, meet me at the flagpole, graduation, benediction prayer at Alma, Florida. But give me three little old ladies calling on the name of Jesus, praying in the Holy Ghost and I'll tear the devil's kingdom down. When you get the church prayer, I said when you get the church prayer, you might as well remain standing. We're getting pretty close here.
When you get the church prayer, something has got to happen. I said when you get the church prayer, something is about to happen. Not a church. Hey, yeah. Not the dead church. Not the apathetic church. Not the listless church. Not the lethargic church. Not the church of Laodicea. Not the tried, twice plucked up church. But when you get the church praying, I said this is that church. The one that Joel talked about. The one that Peter followed up on the day of Pentecost. When he said I'll pour out my spirit on all flesh and I'll cause to you to come down the rain, the former rain and the latter rain in the first month. The one that Isaiah said with stammering lips and another tongue. The one that Peter said I built it on the rock and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. This is that church. That one God church. That Jesus named church. That Acts 238 church. That holy church. That praying church. That testifying church. Wait for it. That church with the gifts of spirit and operation. That tongues and interpretation of tongues church. That word of prophecy church. I'm talking about church. I said I don't know what you came to do but I came to praise the Lord. Let me just tell you something. This is what we do.
If we don't pray I'll come to sing he may put your head on somebody's shoulder and pray with him right now while the Holy Ghost is moving. Never devil out of this house. Ooh. Did I do something if it's okay? Here's what I feel that to do. I want all these young people to kind of clear back a little bit. If you could clear back. Let me go here again.
It was the saints of God that bailed the preacher out of prison and delivered him. If it's okay, I want all the preachers and their wives. I want them to come and stand in front of this podium. Would you mind? Would you mind? I'm sorry. Young people but I want the saints of God to push back just a little bit. Push back just a little bit. Give them some room up here. Come on if their wives would come. If you're thankful for the preachers, clap your hands if you would. I said you're coming out. You're coming out. You're coming out on the jail, can't hold you. You're coming out on the chains, can't stop you. You're coming out on the, there's nothing the jailer can do about it. You're coming out. You're coming out. Amen. Amen. Amen.
My wife is not gonna like this but she's been in some severe pain, some severe pain. I believe that there's a power of the Holy Ghost from the prayers of the saints. Ha ha ha. Look at these preachers across here. These preachers across here. Here's what I wanna do. I want these preachers to begin to pray and I want the saints to gather in behind the ministry and we're gonna pray them out. Now some of them may not need it but there's some to do. Preachers, the adversary's always trying to stop it but there's anointing of a Holy Ghost in this house. Coming is coming is coming is. There's nothing the devil can do to stop it. The chains are falling. Ha ha, shut up. That's it. That's it. That's the devil. Come on saints. Come on saints, help me pray. Come on saints.
