Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Perilous times — be strong in the Lord

  • Paul wrote in Timothy that in the last days perilous times shall come, and the preacher reads the description out: men lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof — and says it sounds just like the culture and society we live in now.
  • Paul wrote another letter to the Ephesians: be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, and put on the armor of God — that armor is what keeps us able to stand in these times.
  • He asks again the question he titled last week's message with: have you done your part to stand?
  • He says he is having some health problems and complications and may not be able to stand too long, but he is thankful to be there and thanks the church for their prayers.

Scriptures: Timothy (book-only, as spoken); Ephesians 6

Last week's armor: the word of truth and the breastplate of righteousness

  • Recapping last week: we stand girt with the word of truth — you can read all the books you want, but no book is more important than the Word of God; the word is truth, and standing comes from crafting the Word of God into your life, as David talked about again and again.
  • The breastplate of righteousness: no matter how unpopular it is, how corrupt things get, or what garbage is put out, it still requires righteousness to be pleasing to God — not a Sunday-morning religion, but righteousness every day of the week; righteousness, peace, and joy come when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • He reminds them of the scripture from Psalms, where David was writing: the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, and the way of the ungodly shall perish — bottom line, you are either going to live righteous or you are not going to make it.

Scriptures: Psalms (book-only, as spoken)

Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace

  • The next piece of armor, in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 15: your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace — it will help us to stand in the perilous times we are living in.
  • It is amazing how many troublemakers we have instead of peacemakers.
  • From Proverbs, the list he has heard before: these six things the Lord hates, yea, seven are an abomination unto him — a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among the brethren.
  • Too many people want to tell everything dirty and negative they can dig up about everybody they know; what we need is somebody who decides, I want to be peaceful — I want to be a peacemaker. As Matthew records Jesus saying: blessed are the peacemakers.

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:15; Proverbs (book-only, as spoken); Matthew (book-only, as spoken)

Seek peace and pursue it

  • David was writing in Psalms 34: depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
  • He cannot promise there is no dirt to dig up on somebody, or that the person across the aisle has no mess-up or mistake in their life — but take it to God instead of to your neighbor.
  • Someone was concerned that others around them are being blessed while they struggle for everything they have; his answer was that they are in discord every day — God is not going to bless that, it is one of the things he hates and calls an abomination, so get control of it, seek peace, pursue it, reach for it, and get your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
  • We have plenty of good things to talk about instead of dwelling on all the bad things.
  • The psalmist wrote in chapter 37 that the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace — and the preacher asks, where is our meekness?
  • The psalmist also wrote that mercy and truth are met together and righteousness and peace have kissed each other — if you are going to call yourself righteous, you are going to have to live in peace.
  • Jesus was prophesied of at his birth, as Isaiah was writing: he shall be called the Prince of Peace — be in touch with the Prince of Peace instead of the prince of problems or the prince of the darkness of the air.
  • James said it: the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
  • Paul said the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, and peace — you know a tree by the fruit it bears; if all you dwell on is turmoil, problems, and everybody else's mishaps and mistakes, you need to get in touch with the Prince of Peace all over again and bear that spiritual fruit. Jesus said, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

Scriptures: Psalms 34; Psalms 37; Isaiah (book-only, as spoken); James (book-only, as spoken)

Above all, taking the shield of faith

  • Moving forward in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 16: above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts.
  • Faith, looked up in Webster's dictionary, is something that is believed, especially with strong conviction.
  • Paul gives the definition of faith in Hebrews chapter 11: now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen; by it the elders obtained a good report, and through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
  • Paul was writing to the church of Corinth that we walk by faith — and without faith it is impossible to please him.
  • If you put your trust in horses, chariots, man, 401(k)s, medicine, or your employment, all these things shall fail; but when your faith is in God, no matter how dark it gets or how perilous the times come, you can stand and be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:16; Hebrews 11

The fiery darts faith has to quench

  • Fear is one of the fiery darts: fear will grip you and torment you — fear hath torment — but God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind; things will come that you do not understand, and you have to have the faith to ward that fear off.
  • Doubt is another fiery dart — everybody has had doubt, and if we do not ward it off it will penetrate and make us doubt even ourselves and doubt God. If you have the faith to believe God removed your sins as far as the east is from the west and that the blood of Calvary was enough to cover you, you have the faith to know he will see you through no matter what comes, until you hear him say, well done, good and faithful servant.
  • Sickness is another fiery dart: it is no fun being sick, and while you are laid flat on your back you had better have some faith, because the devil will do everything he can to come and haunt you.
  • Death and loss will come against everyone: we will all go through the valley of the shadow of death and lose loved ones, and loss also means jobs, careers, houses burned, and car wrecks — serving God does not exempt anyone from loss, but if you are already anchored in the faith you can take your stand, holding to the words he quotes, that the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
  • Distractions and discouragement are fiery darts too — the devil uses them to sidetrack us and keep us from receiving what we are supposed to receive; if he can shake you and rattle you he will, but anchored in the truth with the shield of faith, you can make it through whatever comes.

Scriptures: Job (book-only, as spoken)

Praying always — have you done your part to stand?

  • He names the rest of the armor quickly: take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
  • Then the part he wanted to get to: praying always. If you are going to make it, it is going to be through your prayer life; if you are going to survive these perilous times, it is going to be because you prayed.
  • You cannot ride to heaven on somebody else's prayers — not your mama's, your aunt's, or your grandpa's; you are not going to be able to make it holy through anyone's prayers but your own.
  • He closes by asking the question again: praying always — have you done your part to stand?
  • (The recording ends mid-sentence; the sermon's close is not in the capture.)

Paul wrote it and we have to look at it and realize that we're doing just exactly where he said he wrote it in Timothy he said this know also that in the last days perilous times shall come

I talked to us last week about how that we were to stand and I started and again I wasn't able to stand too long may not be able to stand too long today I'll be honest with you I'm having some problems and some complications but I'm thankful I'm able to be here and thank you for your prayers but he went on a ride in Timothy when he was said that about the perilous times

he began to describe even the culture that we live in right now he said that men shall be lovers of their own selves covetous boasters proud blasphemers disobedient to parents unthankful unholy without natural affection trucebreakers false accusers incontinent fierce despisers of those that are good traitors heady highminded lovers of pleasures more than lovers of god having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof

does that not sound just like the culture and society that we live in he wrote that and then he was writing as he wrote that he wrote another letter over into the fission's and he said I realize all this stuff's going on he said but I want you to be strong in the Lord now again I know when you well on those things that he was talking about in Timothy how that all this culture and society is so turned away from God it's hard to imagine about being strong in the Lord

but I am persuaded to believe that even in this trailer perilous times that we're living in that God wants us as a church to be strong in the Lord to be strong in the Lord he went on to tell us and I begin touching on this last week about how that he said and you be strong and the power of his mind then he said

I want you to put on that armor of God and then last week we talked about how that that is going to be what keeps us able to stand he said when you've done all to stand stand there for I simply titled my message last week have you done your part so today I'm going to ask that simple question again have you done your part we talked about having to stand with the breastplate of rock art or with the excuse me we talked about how with the word of truth and let me tell you I'll repeat it over and over many scriptures of how

he said thy word is true that you you're not gonna get there no other way I can't you read all the books you want to but there's not a book that's more important to you than the Word of God that word is the truth and if you're gonna stand it's gonna be because you've been crafted the Word of God into your life and made it where David that he talked about it over and over again I don't want to repeat that because I want to move on to some more but David talked about the word and

I encourage you if you didn't hear last Sunday's message I encourage you to do a study on the truth on the word of truth study the Word of God

then if we went on and we talked about the breastplate of righteousness and I can let me just reiterate what I mentioned last week but I don't care how unpopular it is I don't care how perilous it is I don't care how corrupt Washington get I don't care how bad Hollywood puts out the garbage that they put out I'm telling you it doesn't matter if it's unpopular or not it still requires righteousness to be pleasing to God and if we're gonna stand in this life that we're living in if we're gonna stand strong it's gonna be because we live a righteous life it's not a Sunday morning religion won't get you there but it's going to be righteousness every day of the week

there is righteousness peace and joy that comes when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost these people that live a righteous life they need to get filled with the Holy Ghost hey man can I don't want to really go and record and sound like it again but I'm gonna hear didn't

remind you of the scripture from Psalms that the Lord he says David was writing sit for the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous and the way of the ungodly Shall Perish bottom line folks you're either going to live righteous or you're not going to make it the way of the ungodly is going to perish but then I go on to the next verse on the fish in chapter 6 and this is something again it will help us to stand in the perilous times that we're living in

verse 15 says and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace it's so amazing to me how many troublemakers we have instead of peacemakers come on let me remind you of a scripture from Proverbs remind you you because you've heard it before but it says verse 16 these six things that the Lord hates yes seven are abomination unto Him a proud look a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood a heart that devises wicked imaginations feet that be swift to run and run into mischief a false witnesses speaketh wise and

he that soweth discord among the Brethren it's amazing to me how many people want to tell everything dirty and negative at taking tale about everybody that they know what we need is somebody that gets a hold of something that says I want to be peaceful I want to be a peacemaker

Matthew said it so well or Jesus was riding a matthew carpeted when Jesus was speaking to them he said blessed are the peacemakers blessed are the peacemakers I've come this morning to remind you exactly what David was writing in Psalms 34 he said

depart from evil and do good see peace and pursue it let me just tell you something I can't promise you that there ain't no dirt that you can dig up on somebody I can't promise you that the person sitting across the aisle from you hadn't got some mess-up or mistake in their lives but let me tell you if you'll take it to God instead of your neighbor

I know I had someone can telling me just the other day and they said they're just so concerned because they look around and this is being blessed and this one's being blessed and this one's being blessed and it seems like they're struggling for everything I got and I said when my wife was telling me about the concern and I said it's because they're so in discord every day listen to me

you better get control you better get control God's not gonna bless me it's one of those things that he hates and it's abomination to him you better seek peace and pursue accurate reach for it get your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace we've got plenty of good things to talk about instead of swelling on all the bad things

the psalmist wrote in chapter 37 he said but the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace where is our meekness amen where is our meekness the psalmist also wrote and said mercy and truth are met together righteousness and peace have kissed each other

let me tell you something if you're going to be righteous if you're going to tout yourself as being righteous you're gonna have to live in peace Jesus was prophesied upon his birth and he said I say I was writing he said he shall be called the Prince of Peace if you're gonna be a child of God you'd better be in touch with the Prince of Peace instead of the Prince of problems or the Prince of the darkness of the air you better be in touch with the Prince of Peace and do everything you can to have that peace James said it in the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace

paul was writing he said the fruit of the Spirit are you spiritual are you supposed to have the Holy Ghost inside of you here it is this is the way you know a tree by the fruit it bears right the fruit of the Spirit is love joy and peace if all you dwell home is the turmoil and all you dwell on is the complexities in all you do a loan is all the problems and all you do a loan is everybody else has mishaps and mistakes I can tell you you need to get in touch with the Prince of Peace all over again amen you better get in touch with the Prince of Peace and become a spiritual being so that you can bear that spiritual fruit of peace again

jesus said it he said blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God they shall be called children we born that so as this Court is not going to be called the children of God are they then he went on and I quickly moved forward

pigeons chapter 6 verse 16 I'm telling you what we got to do to stand we said above all taking the shield of faith wearing it with you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts faith if you look it up and decked and Webster's dictionary it's something that is believed especially with strong conviction

Paul give us the definition of faith in Hebrews chapter 11 he said now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen or by yet speaking of faith the elders obtained a good report if it weren't for them it'll work for us through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do not all was writing to the Church of Corinth and he said

for we walk by faith and he was also writing and I believe it was Paul writing in Hebrews chapter 11 after he'd give us the definition he said for without faith it is him possible to please him or without faith let me tell you something faith it's the thing that's going to keep you standing in this perilous times because if you put your trust in horses or you put your trust in chariots or you put your trust in man or you put your trust in 401ks are you put your trust in medicine are you put your trust in your employment if you put your truck all these things shall fail

but when you've got your trust in him when you put your faith in God it doesn't matter how dark it may get outside it doesn't matter how perilous the times come you can stand and you can be strong in the Lord and in the power of his mind and then he went on and out and again I quickly try to move forward because he said this is this is something that is going to help you

to ward off the fiery darts the fiery darts that's come in kids you you know there's several things that we could just simply name real quickly but one of the fiery darts that I see comes against so many people is fear amen fear will grip you and torment you fear hath torment

but you know what God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind hear me so if you're gonna be able to stand in this time I've got to have that faith because it's inevitable that fear is gonna come against me there's gonna be things that comes that I don't understand that I can't comprehend and I've got to be able to ward off that fear

I've got to be able to ward off that doubt that's another fiery dart that comes don't tell me you've never had doubt everybody's live just had doubt and if we don't ward it off it will penetrate our lives here to penetrate us and make us doubt even ourselves and doubt God but I've come this morning to tell you if I've got the faith to know that God grew he removed my sins and pull them as Florez the East is from the West

if I've got the faith to believe that the blood of Calvary was enough to cover me then I've got the faith to know that he'll see me through no matter what cons and when I see him I can hear him say well done my good and faithful servant doubt

another fiery dart of sickness half the church should say Amen it's tough and mr. Haly it's tough being sick mr. Rogers it's no fun being sick tell me you others it's been real sick lately you understand and not that you're ready to give up but you know what if you ever needed faith let me tell you while you're laying flight of your back you better have some faith because the devil would do everything he can to come and haunt you

another fiery dart that will come against you again death every one of us is going to go through that valley of shadow of death we're gonna lose loved one and it will shake us and it will rock us and it will it will move us if we hadn't got the faith of God and then again lost it doesn't just have to be loss of life but loss of of jobs careers loss is sometimes just a fiery dart that comes

I wish I could tell you that serving God you would never suffer loss but I can tell you you will go through times of loss even people that serve God they lose things their house is burned they have car wrecks they do go through loss if it's not fun but it just happens

but if you've already got yourself anchored in the faith it doesn't matter what in that fiery dark comes it can come but the lawyers job says the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away I've come today to tell you you better get a hold of the faith and know that I'm gonna stand for the Lord no matter what comes even over how many trials I go through any temptations I face I'm gonna take a stand and serve God and then

another fiery trial that I would like to refer a fiery dart would be distractions discouragement all of these are fiery darts that the devil uses to sidetrack us to keep us from receiving what we're supposed to say even live in and if he can shake you and rattle you he will do it but if you're anchored in the truth if you've got that that arm or that shield of faith it doesn't matter what comes against you you can't make it I quickly and quickly as I want you to stand he said

take the helmet of salvation a sort of spirit which is the word of God and then it noticed this part right here this is where we're moving into I really wanted to get here and I'm not I'm pissing turning it over my dad's physical come closest but he said praying all the way

if you're gonna make it folks it's gonna be through your prayer life if you're going to survive this perilous times it's gonna be because you prayed I wish I could tell you you could ride my prayers to heaven I wish I could tell you that you could ride your mama's prayers or your aunt's prayers or your grandpa's prayers or somebody else's prayers but you're not gonna be able to make holy through your own prayers praying always pray have you done your part to stand and
