Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

1. Opening; getting right over a wrong from 1967 (1:42–5:38)

  • Cornwell is glad to be in Baton Rouge this trip: a man he wronged in 1967, and has not seen since, has been found on the internet, and after the service they will try to find him so he can get right — anyone wronged must be gotten right with before judgment.
  • He has enjoyed staying at the host pastor's home and hearing about his ancestry; the host's son Tim is his own children's favorite preacher and comes to Wichita two or three times a year.
  • The host pastor, he jokes, will not admit he has ADHD but plainly has a double portion of it; Cornwell has diagnosed many people in forty-three years in the counseling business.
  • Last night's service showed the host's ability to walk in the Spirit; Cornwell notes the service is being taped, so more people will hear the tape than are present.

2. The text: Philippians 3 read aloud (5:38–9:44)

  • Greeting to brother Pete Green, whom Cornwell met at a 1967 (perhaps 1968) funeral for brother Morgan when Cornwell was a brand-new convert.
  • He directs the church to Philippians chapter 3 and reads from verse 7 through "I press for the mark" — counting all things loss for Christ, not having his own righteousness, knowing him and the power of his resurrection, forgetting what is behind.
  • Inside the reading he pauses over the congregation's makeup in Wichita — Black, Hispanic, Asian, African, mixed, and white — and drills the people on where an "amen" belongs; then the reading resumes and completes, and the people are seated.

Scriptures: Philippians 3:7-14

3. Thirty years of growth through the recession (9:44–17:03)

  • A few months earlier, at an anniversary service, his secretary's note told him the Wichita church had just finished more than thirty consecutive years of growth — every year there larger than the year before.
  • Wichita builds airplanes and is hit hard when the industry falls: in one three-year recession stretch the church lost ninety families to moves yet grew from an average of six or seven hundred to more than a thousand.
  • The last four years of drought and recession are dated from President Obama's coming to office: the corporate-jets episode, Cessna's lost five-year backlog, and Beech Aircraft's bankruptcy; fewer than two percent of Wichita's 775 churches grew financially in that period, while his church grew four consecutive years.
  • Asked what he is doing that others are not, his first answer is that the people believe God is on their side; he leads the blessing exercise ("may the blessings of God be on your life") and the four-year-old practice of prophesying a raise to five people every service.

4. What have we learned — the ten things (17:03–24:10)

  • He wants God's blessing on his life, above what his hands or his mind can produce; he has gone broke four times preaching, lost two homes, and refuses to walk around with a snapshot of his worst day.
  • After the anniversary note, he and his wife lay in bed with books, tape recorders, and a notepad and asked what they had done right over the last thirty-something years; they wrote late into the night and reduced it to ten things that have brought God's blessing into their lives.
  • An aside on being blessed: fishing and hunting succeed with him; brother Anthony (captioned Megan, then Mangan) succeeded on a hunt despite the family "curse" he warned about.

5. From Lake Charles to Wichita (24:10–32:01)

  • A prophet sent from Indianapolis told them to resign at Lake Charles, where they averaged 455; they resigned on a Wednesday night, and three days later Wichita called — a church of nineteen people, after three major splits in six months.
  • He missed Louisiana cooking and fishing; in Kansas he had to learn to see from God's perspective. His first Wichita sermon took Abraham and Lot separating: how far can you see from where you're sitting? He saw a church running more than a thousand while the remnant saw only the splits and the bankruptcy.
  • A deacon's insult — that he hadn't sense enough to pastor — he answered by agreeing and promising to learn.
  • Large churches do not lower holiness; it is not preaching that keeps churches small, it is attitude.

6. The first thing learned: do not become hard (32:01–41:01)

  • Back to the ten things: the first and major thing he and his wife wrote down is how to avoid becoming hard. A child of God will suffer persecution from without and from within — Christ himself was wounded in the house of his friends (the wording is quoted; no book is named).
  • The setbacks themselves are not the problem; losing faith in them is. He and his wife lost their second home after three months, lived in fourteen places in fourteen years, and for three years bought nothing but groceries — and did not lose their faith or their work for Christ.
  • Pentecostal people can become as hard as anyone; once hard, a person is fit only for the potter's field, and the hand of God leaves no fingerprint on them. People sit through moves of God untouched because they would not yield the first time.
  • Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, had grown mechanical and hard in his preaching; the Lord sent him to the potter's house, where the marred vessel was made again into another vessel — it is not what we make of ourselves but what God can make of our lives.
  • Two mothers contrasted — one whose seven children come to church clean, on time, and respectful, one whose five are dirty and unkempt: the difference is that one mother has become hardened and the other has life in her. Some churches fidget through the service; others can hardly wait for the first note.

Scriptures: Jeremiah 18

7. Joseph: nine hardships, and the dream that kept him (41:01–47:19)

  • To return to the potter's house, a corn of wheat must fall into the ground and die (John 12:24, named and quoted); dying to one's own will is painful.
  • He announces he will use Genesis chapter 37 to chapter 45 and walks through Joseph: hated by his brothers because he was a dreamer; threatened with killing; put in a pit; sold to an Ishmaelite caravan; sold again on an auction block in Egypt; falsely accused of rape; put in the king's prison; forgotten by those he helped; left to die a forgotten soul.
  • Joseph endured because he had a dream from God — the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowing, the stalks of grain bowing — and believed God would bring it to pass. Even Christ felt forsaken (the cry is quoted as Christ's words; no book is named); opposition is necessary, since character is determined by what is in the heart.

Scriptures: John 12:24; Genesis 37-45

8. Point one: acknowledge God in all things (47:19–54:15)

  • The first of three things against hardness: learn to acknowledge God in all things — the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (quoted; no book named), and there are no accidents in the kingdom.
  • If God uses someone as a hammer, don't curse the hammer; curse neither — it is the hand on the hammer that hurts. Joseph never blamed his brothers; he trusted the Lord with all his heart rather than his own understanding (the passage is quoted; no book is named).
  • The resignation story in full: four hundred people begged them to stay; his father cussed him out; he and his wife left town broken. On the road, three different preachers in three churches — none of whom knew them — stopped and spoke the same word over them: called to a city, to Wichita, to an outpouring of the Holy Ghost and their life's work.
  • On that journey his little boy, about two and a half, stripped naked in the pew during worship; the third word came while his wife was still putting the child's clothes back on. In Wichita the nineteen said, if we vote you in, will you take this church — and they took it.
  • He prophesies revival in Baton Rouge: not because of the host pastor, but because the Lord sent him to say it — the church will more than double in one revival.

9. Point two: forgive quickly (54:15–1:03:17)

  • The second thing: learn to forgive quickly — not when Alzheimer's makes you forget. Whoever will not forgive will not be forgiven; he jokes that if he punched the host pastor in the nose, the pastor could not go to heaven until he forgave him.
  • They had hurts arriving faster than they could forgive the last one — from outside, from saints within, from preachers, from the district board — and never quit teaching Bible studies or running buses.
  • The school-building story: the saints who wanted a school so badly didn't show up to dig the footings; he dug all day alone with a superintendent and a backhoe, covered in dirt and crying mad — and at that moment a couple from the church, each married to someone else, arrived holding hands to ask him to marry them after their divorces. He threw dirt clods until they backed off the lot.
  • He went home, showered, and went out on Bible study anyway. A woman recently told him she had finally forgiven a pastor who wronged her in 1982 — decades spent standing over an offense.

10. Point three: restore and be restored; the close (1:03:17–1:09:46)

  • The third thing: learn to restore and be restored — it is not enough to forgive or be forgiven; a person living in the past has no future. He has to come back tomorrow for the rest.
  • Things that bring hardness: financial problems and being broke; losing loved ones. He tells of a family whose eight-year-old son died of leukemia after four days of suffering no morphine could stop; he told his wife they would never be back in church — and the next morning they brought some forty-five family members, testified that the child's sickness had brought them all to Christ, and about forty-nine stood at the altar. Loss can bring people closer to God or make them hard.
  • Family problems, divorce, failure: Peter, Elijah, Abraham, and Jacob all failed and kept going.
  • Closing prayer: thanks for the Holy Spirit; this is the first morning, and he prays for the service to come; that God would touch the church, keep them from becoming hard, and put them back on the potter's wheel so his fingerprints show on their lives again; blessing on the host pastor and his wife, that they stay pliable. He invites the people to come around the altars.

the whole church is not here but if I'm not mistaken we are being taped so more people will listen to the tape than what is here today so I got to be very mindful of fact I'm gonna preach to the tape recorder of this afternoon praise God and I'm a short winded preacher I try not to preach more than two hours at one time and amen almost over your Bibles of olympians chapter number three the book of Philippians chapter number three the Baton Rouge area is one fantastic area and I believe the Hurricane Katrina came through and it has blessed Baton Rouge to bring in a tidal wave of people that would never hear the gospel and going to give them an opportunity to hear the gospel and at rouge louisiana amen I've always loved that route I've often said if I ever came back to Louisiana and pasture I would have to pasture in Baton Rouge because this is where the people are amen this is where they know how to cook Oh Lord amen always good to see brother Pete green up I'm meant for the Pete green at a funeral in 1967 I believe it's 1967 might have been 1968 when brother 80 Morgan passed away they had a funeral in the Ritter and I was a brand-new Condor I met Pete green at that funeral way back then and I don't know why he never asked me to come preach for him maybe I was too charismatic Laurie amen the book of Philippians chapter 3 and verse 7 what things were gain to me I counted loss for Christ J countless I count all things that loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered but say I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung that I may win Christ and be found in him not having my own righteousness and not having my own righteousness and not having my own righteousness now in Wichita 14% of our congregation is african-american 14 percent of our congregation is Hispanic mostly Mexicans guatemalan Nicaraguan Panamanians Ecuadorians in Argentines and the five percent of our congregation is Asian Filipino martial YZ Indonesia and then we have a 2% at our Africans and then we have about 2% that are mixed rates and the rest of them are white honkies and the people of color have built in a miners' but white folks you have to notify them were to say Amen so I'm gonna I'll notify you when I a mint belongs right there okay amen not having my own righteousness at a mint belongs right there okay and a mint belongs right there praise God and which is over law but that which is a faith of Christ the righteousness which is of God by faith that I may know him and the power of his resurrection the Fellowship of his suffering being made if I say being made conformable unto his death if any means I might attain under the resurrection of the Dead not as though I had already attained either already perfect but I follow after if I'm am free of that which I'm apprehended of Christ Jesus brethren I count not myself to evaporate but this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth under those things which are before I press for the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus and you may be seated for a couple of hours here just a few months ago not not too many months ago we had an anniversary service in our church and during that anniversary service our secretary sent me up a note and said pastor did you know that we have just finished more than thirty

consecutive years of growth and I was I was I was frankly I was overwhelmed by the statement that every year since we have been in which at all we have grown from the previous year there was a three year period during that time in which recession hit Wichita now Wichita is not a government town we build airplanes we built half of the world's airplanes and when the airline industry goes down Wichita is hit pretty hard and in that three-year period of that recession we lost 90 families that had to move out of Wichita in order to find a job and in that three-year period we were we started that three-year period we was averaging somewhere around six or seven hundred when the recession started and we lost 90 families but into that three-year period we were averaging more than a thousand we had a tremendous time of growth for those that was left in Wichita the same time we were losing people by the scores and every time you turned around this engineer would come and say pastor we got laid off and got to have a job we're moving to San Antonio we're moving to Houston we're moving to Dallas we go into Atlanta Georgia we're going to Tahoe we're going to Oklahoma City they went everywhere they went all over the country trying just to find jobs in order to li'l so we understand what recession is and of course the last four years or the last four years we have been in a terrible drought and recession in which it thought when President Obama came to office one of the first things he'd done was he brought all the tycoons to Washington and they flew to Washington in their corporate jets and President Obama cursed them for flying to Washington in their corporate dress while they were laying off people and he spoke very disparaging of the jet airplane market and Cessna that had had a five year backlog of orders oh they wouldn't begin building your airplane for five years that's how many airplanes that they were behind and in less than a month's time they had lost five years of orders and they laid off just unbelievable for fact Beach aircraft I just had to file bankruptcy and go under because the airline industry the airplane industry has bottomed out and in airplanes drive our economy and in the last four years we've seen our economy nosedive and in the last four years every Church in Wichita has suffered greatly financially because of the lack of financing their church and less than two percent of the churches in Wichita and there are 775 churches in Wichita that they have had financial decreases and their budgets have decreased and only two percent of us have had financial growth at least one out of the last four years and yet our church has had four consecutive years of financial growth numerical growth in that four year period of recession praise God and so I get asked all the time by the mayor and by other people and they want to know what are you doing that other churches are not doing that you can retain your congregation your congregation is growing your bus ministry is growing your Bible study ministry is growing everything is growing and our missions program is growing our outreach program is growing and how do you what do you contribute that to and I'll say first of all your people has got to believe that God is on our side I want to do something as they get started collected by justice and just for a moment I want to do something praise God I want you to turn to three people around you and say may the blessings of God be on your life amen amen I think that that we need we need every day to tell our people the blessings of God are on your life can I have an amen to that do you want look at the person

next to you kill you off the blessings of God on their life or do you want it all for yourself praise God and then we thought we started four years ago we started something that we have done every service every service every time we go to church we've gone into the last four years and we're continuing to do it and that is only your turn to five people look them square and I shake your hand and say you are going to get a raise on your job I want you looking square in the eye and say you are going to get a raise on your job even if you get people to believing that God is on your side if you can get people to believe that God is on your side he will work in their behalf you can be seated praise God and so the last 30-something years we have had we've had growth it doesn't matter what kind of recession we're having doesn't matter how many people are being laid off at one time Cessna Aircraft laid off 25,000 men and we still continue to grow and I've asked myself over and over again Lord why have you chosen up to place your blessings on and I realize I'm not the only person that God wants to bless he wants you to be blessed of God did you pay your tithe do you give all three do you live for God do you uphold your standard yes we do praise God and why should not god bless his children I feel the Holy Ghost here can I have an amen somebody and so after after my secretary gave me that note my wife and I went home and and I have books beside my bed and I have tape recorders beside my bed I even have a loo elem or two besides my face praise God and I've got to read I've got I've got to read before I go to sleep and I have a notepad right there beside my bed that Lord wakes you up tonight gives me a sermon I don't have to study far more write it down praise God and so secona I was we would prop the bed we was reading and and I had heard the note that secretary give to me and I asked I said I said what have we learned in the last 30 the years what what have we how have we grown within ourself and what have we done right now we've done a lot of things wrong and most of that we always are majoring on what somebody is doing wrong but what are we doing right maybe they get on comprehend this language let me backtrack say it again everybody always can find your fault they know where you're wrong can I have an amen but surely somewhere we've got to have done something right for the blessings of God to be on your life is what we're doing wrong brings a greater curse than what we do right brings the blessings you understand what I just said we're doing wrong but it is the wrong that we're doing does it bring a curse to our life greater than when we do right bringing the blessing of God I know that I'm not perfect and I never will be and I'm not even attempting I quit trying to be perfect it's no fun being perfect it's not exciting to be perfect it's the growing that is exciting can I have an amen and so I said I said well what is what what what have we done right over the last thirty something years that has brought the blessings of God to our life now I'm not I'm not being boastful I'm just making a statement here I am blessed of God if you go fishing with me you will catch fish if you go hunting with me you will be successful brother Anthony Megan came up

to go hunting with me one day and he said I just want to warn you about the Mangan curse I said you leave that Megan curse at home you with the corn love blessing today I said you are going to succeed on this hunt and he did succeed regardless of the Mangan curse praise God what I'm saying is I'm not being boastful I'm being honest and saying I am blessed of God but a lot of times we never stop to analyze why we are blessed of God there's got to be something that that God recognizes in your life that he says I'm going to bless that man regardless of our blessed anybody else or not and if you're not being blesses and carefully if you're not receiving the blessings of God can I have a limit now let me pause here and let me talk about the blessing one our hands are capable of X amount of work you can you can you can earn so much an hour with your hands if you're in a union scale area maybe your hands can produce $20 or $25 or $30 an hour and that's the limit of your ability of your hand and your mind can produce so much I don't want what my mind can produce I don't want what my hand can produce I want the blessings of God on my life which is above and beyond what I can do I think you're getting the message I don't want just what I can do I woke up blessings of God on my life praise God you understand what I'm saying I need the blessings ago and so I had to find I had to I had to know what what was we doing to bring us the blessings of God on our life praise God now you say pastor do you ever have struggles of course we have struggles I've gone broke four times in reaching the gospel I've gone the verge of bankruptcy I've lost two homes and living for God of course we go through dark hours of course we go through the valleys of course we go to the crevasse disc of course we go through the canyons of course we go through the gorge ISM but those are temporary status of our life can I have an amen I'm not going to take a snapshot of the worst day of my life and walk around with that snapshot the rest of my life and say oh god I'm hung up this valley there tell my ghostess of it pull out that snapshot of that dark day in my life and always remind myself of that dark day and now I've got a snapshot person I'm grooving on praise God I'm pressing on to the next blessing that God has for our life Oh hallelujah so what what what what what has caused the blessings of God to come to my life so sister coma now we got to talking about it I picked up a notepad and we just started right lay into the night we just started writing and we came up with a lot of things that we were doing and and then we centralize them and we brought them down to ten things that we feel like have brought the blessings of God into our life now when I with the Wichita I left Lake Charles Louisiana when I left Lake Charles we were averaging 455 when we left Lake Charles and we we resigned because a prophet told us to resign and you don't believe it's hard to trust a prophet in those hours but the man of God said the Lord spoke to me and told me to tell you to resign I so why did he tell me he said God has been telling you you haven't been listening and so he sent me from Indianapolis all the way to Lake Charles to tell you to

resign and when I finished talking you I'm getting in my truck and I'm driving back to Indianapolis and I thought a man will come that far just give me one word and drive back maybe he's telling the truth so we resigned on Wednesday night and three days later they called us to Wichita and we took a church of 19 people folks it's hard to leave that Cajun gumbo that Southern Fried Chicken that jambalaya's that boudin and go to Kansas and the green bean without any salt or they don't know how to cook in Kansas but I'll pass word elect Charles I fish every day five o'clock afternoon I finished my work I grab my fishing pole I went out in the lack of scene reserve and I fish every date row hallelujah I live in friend and I got the Kansas and you got to drive to next year to find a piece of water Kansas is one big lake but it's all on the ground I mean they got a few reservoirs that they put a few crawdads in call that a lake I had more water in my backyard and gotten a whole state of Kansas how I end up in Kansas is a miracle of God I don't have time to go into them and we took a church that that broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the number of splits and six months we had three major church splits in six months and that broke the Guinness Book of World Records and the people the 19 people that were left they all sat on the back for Rose now that's aggravating you know if you're depressed at least put on a clown faith with a smile I got don't walk around with a plastic rail they got some Halloween costume and a back story of Ben Franklin's and five-and-dime and they'll sell you one with a plastic smile put a plastics I alone God have mercy you depress holy rollers what's wrong with you my god I'd rather look at a plastic clown face to the frown that some of us have sometime my god Jonah be thankful you're not pushing up daisies in the graveyard some we're gonna praise God ever Tate you wake up alive they meant belong right there oh praise God and so I realized I had my task cut out for me and the first sermon that I preached in Wichita was when lot and Abraham separated and God said to Abraham look now in the place where thou art the north or south east and west and I would give the all this land where ever you set your foot and I preached on how far can you see from where you're sitting and what do you see from where you're sitting and so I described what they were looking at they were looking at three church split they were looking all the money walking out of the church they were looking at all the problems and and we were just all in bankruptcy and they had to head hung low and all the friends were gone and I said that's not what I seek praise God I said I see a church in Wichita I see a church running more than a thousand in which at all I see an acreage I see buildings I see buses I see Fievel studies I see one of the greatest revivals in North America praise God and I've been in a short time we will be running a thousand in Sunday school praise God and one of my featured one of my feet are diamond Deacon Deacon diamond there's not a lot of difference there but he came up after church he said well he did you ain't got sense enough to Pastor how some people I bet you you're making the wrong statement sir I said that you accidentally told the truth I said I don't have sense enough to Pastor a thousand people but I am going to learn how to Pastor a thousand people but are you going to learn how to be a child of God in a church upset runs a thousand aren't you're not listening in and I realized I'm free to the date of a day so most Pentecostals don't walk to run a thousand or 2,000 or 3,000 or 4,000 or

5,000 because you will not be here as important in a church of 3000 as you're in a church right Authority praise God I left you seeing from God's perspective up in a large church everybody is important can I have a team at not just one family not just one because everybody is important to the kingdom of God well when you start running thousand two thousand three thousand your holiness goes down are you insane if you think holiness goes down in a large church somebody has been lied to their foot P to you Amen we have we have southern southern preachers up come up to Wichita and and it blows our mind because of the way I passed her praise God they said man if we preach like that down south we wouldn't get to come back I said if you don't preach like that here you ain't coming back when you get brand-new people that comes out of homosexuality and adultery and and fill in quagmire of this world you gotta learn how to preach brother you gotta clean people's lives up somebody's shelf you got a preacher it's not our preaching that's keeping our churches small how do you what I said it's not our preaching that's keeping our churches small it's our attitude you know let me get back to my message so sister Kona we remembered ten things that we've got like was our most important things that we have had notice that we have had to learn they weren't born in us we had to learn them through trial and error and experience can I have an amen hear me carefully if you are a born again child of God living for God if you are a one God Jesus name apostolic tongue talking holy Roland born again pastor our preacher can I have an amen you will suffer persecution from without and from with n what does the scripture say about Jesus said I was wounded in the house of my friends and the Lord was actually glorifying the fact that he had the privilege of being hurt in the house of his friends praise God to have a demon and and so you are going to suffer persecution you are going to suffer enormous setbacks in your life in your lifetime and the problem is not with the setbacks but the problem is with your faith when you suffer setbacks my wife and I we lost our second home and we'd only lived in it three months and we had to give it up and we we simply lost it and for the next 14 years we lived in 14 different places trying to get relocated and we had to move every time the rent came due and there were three years when Cisco not only bought groceries we didn't buy socks underwear huge stockings we didn't buy dresses we didn't buy nothing because there was no money to buy anything we'll and it was a major setback in our life and and and was so long we even ourself wondered if we were ever going to come out of it but we did not lose our faith when we were set back neither did we lose our work for Christ when we were set back and I am I preciate anybody I make any kind of sense here and so the first thing that Cisco and I we wrote down on our pad we

wrote it down together and the one the one major thing that we have learned in the last 30-something years is how to avoid the coming hard now I travel from coast to coast and from border to border I deal with preachers all over America I counts of six to eight hours every day I know what I'm talking about here when I tell you that Pentecostals can become as hard the Baptist they can become hard as a drug addict that can become as hard as the harlot on the street and once you become hard you're no longer fit for anything except the potter's field if the hand of God when it touches you does not leave a fingerprint on you you are hard when a move of God comes to the church like heaven last night there was an overflowing presence of God in two or three different places in the service last night and you could feel the hand of God reaching down and touching people yet people walk out of the service of unaffected because he could not leave but so hard and they're numb that they could not be a moved by the power of the Holy Ghost we can never get to the place where the Gospel message does not catch up over and over again please listen to me brave you cannot afford to come to one service and the presence of God move without you yielding yourself to the presence of God because if you don't move this time he moves the next time you won't move again and after a while he can move over and over and you won't even be touched by God anymore if we're going to help a girl in church we got to be a church that is moved by the gospel of Jesus Christ I want to know why we can shout I heaven when somebody comes up here and preacher standards and preaches holiness but when the gospel preacher of the cross we're not dude not a cross anymore the cross or remove you forms than anything else in the entire world Jeremiah chapter 18 the word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord understand Jeremiah is 18 chapters in this book Jeremiah drinks for something like forty some odd years and never had a single convert Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet because he was so unsuccessful by the standards of the world and he finally got the place where his preaching was nothing but mechanical and he was hard with his preaching and it was unknown in his spirit because he just done it out of perfunctory out of just out of callousness and out of hardness and because he hated the people they were preachin to the Lord saw that they said Jeremiah go down to the potter's house and there I will cause thee to hear my words and I went down to the potter's house and behold he wrought a work on the wheel and the vessel that he made of clay was marred in his hand of the Potter and he made it again another vessel and that is a comma right there this is a seaman good to the Potter praise God it's not what we make of ourselves it's what God can make out of our lives somebody for the amen why is it that one woman can have seven children and they come to the house of God and they're always on time and the kids are always dressed and the kids are always cleaned and the kids are always respectful and you can tell that that mother has a love for those children by the way she brings into the house of God and the way she treat them in the restaurant and way they act at school and the great they make and then another mother can have five children and they're dirty and unkempt and a hair's not combed their clothes are dirty the grades are bad what's the difference between the two mothers one of those mothers has become hardened to the fate of the world and the other one has life and her praise God the church cannot become so hard that we become dirty and filthy and unkempt but God have come and remove us totally fibrin analog in the gospel race I go to some churches that

it takes 45 minutes before the people have equipment picking their fingernails and clipping their toes and messing with the kids and they finally the song service is over a preacher halfway through a sermon they find itself well churches almost over I better get with it now praise God and yet there are some churches that are sitting on the pews and they can't wait the piano player things are first dawn on the piano and they're off running praise God they say there's expectancy looks a different one churches become hard and the other one is alive and vibrant praise God let me say and I go to church I go to church ever not expecting the shall I go to church never not expecting the dance I go to church every night expect a movement god I go to church every night knowing that somebody's going to be healed come on it's gonna be plastic God somebody go get a read he's on their job you got cold hard but coming hard you got to go back to the potter's house jesus said in John chapter 12 and verse 24 verily I say unto you except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone but if it die it bringeth forth much fruit and dying is painful can I have an amen it's hard to surrender your will to anybody else's it's even difficult to surrender what you want to do to the will of God hello they meant blonde right there all right amen but except that corn of wheat fall on the ground and die it abideth alone now I want to go through some things that will tempt us to become hard what would cause is men and women to become hard and their spirit I'm going to use the book of Genesis chapter 37 to chapter 45 just for a moment shows them we all know who Joseph is number one he was hated by his brothers because he was a dreamer he was a dreamer he had a head up in clouds he's kind of a weird rhythm Joseph was a weirdo and he was the youngest one of the youngest sons of his father his father lovely his brothers hater number two he was threatening to be killed by them now we're going to talk about I'll kill you boy no I mean they were gonna kill him they'll write his obituary number three he would put in a snake infested yet and left number four he was sold to an Ishmaelite caravan and that was bad enough but when they got into Alexander Egypt they put him on an auction block and sold him as a common slave and if you read antiquity if you read get on the internet and study the Egyptians in those hours they bought and sold slaves like you'd buy pair of blue jeans they put him on an auction block they stripped him completely naked and the verses would come by and they would they would inspect every orifice of his body and it'd depend on their physical condition on the price they paid and he was bought by a prison warden and it was very humiliating a Hebrew would rather face death and die rather than to be auctioned off as a common slave that was the lowest point of a pride is when you was auctioned off as a slave it's a terrible terrible injustice to be sold as a slave and that's why Joseph he suffered from the auction block then he was accused of rape that we know he did not do number seven he was put in the Kings prison house number eight he was forgotten by those that he'd be printed and number nine he was left to die a forgotten soul there's nothing more terrible than to suffer loneliness and to feel like everybody has forsaken

you you've never felt forsaken you need to check them to see God still there because God will allow his people to feel or se caen even Christ said my God my God why have doubt forsaken me and we know that God did not forsake him but there was a purpose for him feeling of God forsaken and and so he was left to die a forgotten soul how did Joseph avoid becoming hard at everything of that he suffered there's only one one reason that Joseph could endure what he endured and that was because he had a dream he had a super natural vision or dream from God that said the Sun and the moon and the Eleven stars are going to bow down to me the seven stalks of corn are going of the lemon stalks of corn are going to bow at my feet and he believed God was going to bring the dream to pass and he was willing to suffer the humiliation the pain the outcasted everything that he went through because he held all the fact that God was involved in everything he was going through at any point if he would have said God you are a million miles away it would have sorted God's plan for his life can I have an email sure you go through things and yes you're forsaken sometimes your very best friends but just because your friend forsake you doesn't mean you got to roll over and die and quit just don't quit when things go wrong somebody shout amen God has a purpose and is building your life praise God I'm a fixer allowed exists everybody in this room these Opposition in your loss if you're going to mount anything you got to have opposition because your character is determined about the amount of ulrich omnis that is in your heart can I have a team n amen number one if you're going to vote coming hard the three things I want to talk to you about number one you got to learn how to acknowledge God in all things the steps of a good man are ordered the Lord not even there are no accidents in the kingdom he knows my down fittings and my uprisings now I'm preaching to you doesn't he do that praise God there are just simply no actors in God we all every one of us are going to suffer at the hands of those from without or with it it doesn't matter what kind of hammer got uses you ever hit yourself with a hammer and it hurts like the dickens and you yell and holler and you praise God are you cursed you do something aid findell whether you're saved or not and and and three days later your finger is still hurting but you don't keep referring back to that dirty rotten lowdown stinking sorry hammer because it was a hand on my hammer that hurts you can I have it evening can I have an amen and if God uses somebody's a hammer remember it's not them that you ought to be cursing it's the hand on that man that he's using to hurt you don't leave what I'm saying can I have an amen Joseph never blamed his brothers he understood that God's hand was on his life from the dreams and he endured everything all along with Cup he understood and he trust in the Lord with all thine heart lean not to thine own understanding in all I ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths the day we resign Lake Charles it was the lowest day in our lives I never want to resign another church as long as I live I had four hundred people that came to my house begging us to stake what's wrong with you have you lost your mind my dad found out I resigned he called me up cussed me out what's wrong with you are you going completely nuts are you insane are you gone off the deep end what's wrong with you ball would you take that jerk night and my friends call

some of my pastor incoming cuz you have lost your ever-lovin man and sister Kona I felt like quickest fit on a diamond swing both feet and we left town and we were broken and we thought oh god what have we done what have we done and and we sunk the very the lowest hit of hell and we go way out the country and it was a little country church having church and I told my mother I got it I got to go to church somewhere we pulled in that gravel parking lot and alone a white building swayback building and and still had a screen door open that's that's old-fashioned Pentecost buddy we open that screen door didn't have air conditioning we walked in and and and the preacher was right in the middle of his sermon and I walk in I didn't know who he was he didn't know who I was and he said thus saith the Lord laughter one I just walked in the house and now he's he's done stop that preaching says thus saith the Lord I have caused you to a city I am preparing you for the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and you shall find your life work I got scared we ran out the door got in my car and drove off we went to we kept driving and we went to a larger church and we walked in in the pastor newest and he's always coming and they ushered us to his office and knocked on the door and preached on the door and we sits goin on the center he said thus saith the Lord I have called you to Wichita Kansas I will give you an outpouring of the Holy Ghost you will find your life's work and you shall be an overflowing outpouring of my spirit saith the Lord we left there we went to another church on Sunday night and we were still broken and and and I got a little boy that's got double ADHD and he's a wicked a little boy and he's about two and a half years old and he's gonna pee behind us and when I were praising God and he stripped buck naked walking him down a few buck naked and the ladies test my wife on the shoulder she comes out of her trance she's in she said I think gonna take care of your son he had close kin from wanting of that few the other and he was having a few puffs and my wife broke down in his area trying to get him all together and a woman all with us how the church came all right before the preachers Brian Dupree came all the way around and said honey I don't know who you are but dust saith the Lord I've called you to a city and you shall find your last work and I'm going to pour out my spirit saith the Lord and went back sit down my wife trying to put clothes back on his kid and when we went to Wichita Kansas and the church with air 19 people they said if you if we vote you in would you take this church I said we'll take it with I don't say we'll take the praise God and and it's amazing how God Orchestra one plan after another for you lie the steps of a good man are ordered by God if you're willing to keep on walking and not stop not lay down not stop not turn over and not look back praise God God I feel appear to prophecy there is a revival and that rouge louisiana you're not hearing i said there is a revival in Baton Rouge Louisiana I'm here not because the Tonys fail I'm here because the Lord sent me here to tell you there is a revival you talk about dubbing 10 years ago no you're going to double in one single revival in one revival you'll have more people pray through and speaks up and live for God then what's members of this church today praise God you don't wanna that's because the planting of God is all discharged can I have it amen acknowledge God in all things number two learn to forgive quickly oh you're gonna forgive when you get Alzheimer's and you forget what you've done against you you'll finally the guilt shame on you you better learn how to forgive quickly hello

never gonna get all the sin out of church I'm not gonna let one sinner stifle my blessing from God it's got to be bigger than that never thought I never had a tape of Dolf in my church I mean you passed it to because you get four words you have a case adults or somewhere my god we live in the master now now not done anyway praise God they come and face it well we want you to marry us I said you're already married when we go I'm gonna divorce my wife and I'll marry her and she's gonna divorce her husband we gonna marry I said and y'all want me to be a part of this wife-swapping I'm dirty okay I got a hard hit a white hard hat on I got all of my face I've been digging that dusty ground for off for 12 hours and I dirt piled up every word and I reckon when I got me a dirt clod and I said I want you but you better get out of here for thought I said no and I just wrote that dirt Claudette and dirt went all over they got to back it up and I'm not now throw it out they back up they got in the car Stockton Street throwing dirt class and people look now the house and watching me I was mad I thought my god here I've been fasting praying my guts out and I have to have an adult party in my congregation and I went over to the house worked in the parses and old door versus closes what's wrong with you look that I can shut up woman I got to go to pop a study and I winter my bathroom closed off took a shower call my hair and sprayed it down praise God put clean clothes on walk up through my wife said you won't cover the dope I don't hover lay them all over come back I gotta go take your Bible says I grab my chart I grabbed my Bible walked out the door got my car spun travel all over the house all over windowpane frege's speed is run through three stop signs and for red lights pulled into people's house drag my five law of karma boxes lock up the door throw the doorbell and it came for them praise the Lord it's time for Monster has a reveal very quickly you ain't got time just to ten years and a woman the other night I came to me she's a pastor we finally been able to give the pastor that done wrong I said really I said winter knew you wrong he said well back in 1982 he done us wrong but we've finally been able I said all these years you stood up over something a pastor done to you when you brought on yourself and you're just now forgiving common assault I've got it gonna help I love y'all children have you lost because it would kill let's all stand my god I mean I don't even get how didn't get the main point number three you gotta learn how to restore and be restored it's not enough to be forgiven it's not enough to forgive you've got to have a restoration of your own life if you're living in the past you ain't got no future but you got to turn around and face the future amen to that God has a blessing for this church so I said amen oh I got to come back tomorrow mm it's a few things that bring hardness financial problems pressures and situations it might have been broken racially been broken before raise your hand if you've never been broke would you raise your hand okay we got one lady the radio service under mouth never been broken god bless you I want you to teach me how to do it sometime anybody ever had financial problems don't raise your hand Elizabeth you ever going from verge of bankruptcy or maybe hit a 5:9 rep see it's so humiliating and if you let it work on you you go broke often enough you'll become hard it would come hard anybody ever had if I ever lost a loved one huh lobster mom dad brother sister aunt uncle grandma grandpa son daughter niece nephew I've seen people lose out with

God when the Lord took some money I've seen other people run to the altar and draw close to God I was with a family a few weeks ago he months ago and we had a son dying of leukemia and I went to the house in the last stage leukemia mama was sitting the floor with a baby in her arm little eight-year-old boy and the boy was suffering such pain and the morphine wouldn't stop the pain and Mama was crying and anguish and Daddy was draped over and family with air and friends and all I could do was sit there and watch as the child took his last breath and such agonizing pain was unbelievable and it went on for four days like that before the child died I've never never want to live through that again in my life and so on Cisco and I left that the coroner came and the hearse took the child to the mortuary I told my wife I said they'll never be back to church I said I washed it in her eyes they'll never be and the next morning was Sunday morning and they said pastor could you reserve about eight pews for us is what said we've got family from out of town and all my family's here and said is about forty five of them I want to bring them all to church the morning they brought forty five people to church that morning they said can we testify I said sure they got up and they told her family said look we had our child for eight years he was the center of our life and God chose the taking and said we look back now had not that child in sick we would have never met this pastor we've never met this church we've never met Christ he said we live we miss our son very much and we're going to miss him for days to come but he said in reality is the best thing that ever happened to his family that has brought us all to Christ and all 49 of those family members came out and stood at that altar and prayed with us sometimes logs brings us closer to God and also can make it's hard it can make you hard family problems anybody got the teenagers whoa let's you bless you bless you bless you bless you bless you bless you amen and I got a 21 year olds yeah children family problems husbands and wives want a divorce hardness anybody ever failed in life anybody ever offended you you ever gone through difficulties you ever failed at anything Peter had failures Elijah had failures Abraham had failures Jacob had failures but they kept on going they didn't allow their life to become hard because of failures amen father I want to take a moment to thank you for the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit now Lord this is the first morning I pray that should ignore the service tonight speak about the ocean and may he bring the Word of God to our hearts in our lives I ask you Lord to touch this church and asking me for the mighty outpouring of the Holy Ghost and Lord we've come too far to become hard now I ask you Lord to put us on the potter's wheel and Lord would you touch us that we might see your fingerprints on our lives again I thank you the power of the Holy Spirit I ask the blessings of God upon brother and sister spell and lord I ask you to teach him don't let the think these slippers cause him to become hard but keeping pliable mould him and make him in the name of Jesus Christ let's lift our hands and the Supreme Lord maybe let's come around these altars this afternoon as many as can let's come to these altars and go to our face for a little while
