Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The Covenant Reminder: God Has Provided Every Step of the Way
- Moses, wrapping up his time as leader, exhorts Israel to stick with the covenant, and he begins by reminding them of how far they had come and of the Lord's provision and help along the way.
- They had seen the miracles, the great trials, the signs and wonders in Egypt, so they had every reason for faith before taking the promised land.
- God breaks into Moses' sermon himself: "I have led you 40 years in the wilderness. Your clothes haven't worn out. Your sandals haven't worn out on your feet" — all so that they may know that he is the Lord.
- The message's focus is one attribute of the Lord: our God is a provider, able to provide for every need — announced in the title "Countless Quail and Ceaseless Sandals."
- Paul's words to the Philippians, written from a jail cell, state it plainly: "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches and glory by Christ Jesus."
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 29; Philippians 4
Ceaseless Sandals: A Provider Who Cares Down to the Smallest Detail
- To picture sandals that never wore out, he holds up his brother's worn-out Crocs — worn nearly every day, tread gone — and his own beaten-up daily shoes.
- Imagine wearing one pair every single day for over 40 years: fighting battles, setting up 40 encampments, cutting wood, building fires, gathering food, working, worshiping, and living in them.
- Year after year the realization deepens: the soles aren't worn, no thread is loose, no strap is broken — and he hasn't had to buy the kids shoes either.
- Other passages tell us their feet themselves never swelled, even after traveling an estimated 1,500 miles just between encampments.
- The God of this covenant cared for his people down to the sandals on their feet — a shoemaker for millions of Hebrew sandals.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 29
The Manna Math: A God Who Makes Something Out of Nothing
- God invented manna for them: he turned evaporated dew into miraculous bread, lowered it to the ground every night, enough to feed well over a million people, with a taste like pastry prepared with oil, like honey.
- The people only had to go out and gather it — they couldn't gather too much — yet God supplied it day after day.
- Working the math from 600,000 men, at roughly four people to a family, gives about 2.4 million people to feed over 40 years.
- At the biblical daily ration, that comes to approximately 20.3 billion gallons of manna — 77.1 billion liters, 128.3 billion pounds — about 1.39 million gallons blanketed over the camp every day.
- That is enough to fill 641,500 train box cars stretching over 7,000 miles — provided from nothing but dust and dew.
Do Not Worry: The Father Who Feeds the Birds Will Feed You
- Jesus says it in Matthew 6: do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will put on.
- Look at the birds of the air: they don't sow or reap or gather into barns, yet the heavenly Father feeds them — and you are of more value than they.
- Consider the lilies of the field: they don't toil or spin, yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these; if God so clothes the grass of the field, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith.
- God clothed and fed millions of Israelites over 40 years, and they never really wanted for anything — and even when they complained and wanted the meat and food of Egypt, he provided for their meat despite their complaining.
Scriptures: Matthew 6
Countless Quail: Exceedingly, Abundantly Above All You Could Ask
- From Mark Batterson's book The Circlemaker, he walks through the math of what Batterson calls the quail storm: a wind went out from the Lord and brought quail from the sea, left fluttering near the camp a day's journey on every side, about two cubits above the ground.
- The people stayed up all that day, all night, and all the next day gathering; the one who gathered least gathered 10 homers.
- At about 15 miles a day's walk, the radius around the camp yields an area of about 700 square miles — ten times larger than Washington, DC, and larger than the entire St. Louis metro area at 523 square miles.
- Piled two cubits — about three feet — deep over 700 square miles, with each person gathering at minimum some 2,000 liters of birds, the total comes to roughly 105 million quail.
- The point of the math: this is a real story about a real God who provided for real people; sometimes he doesn't just answer a prayer, he goes exceedingly abundantly above all you could ask or think.
Scriptures: Numbers 11
Ask, Seek, Knock: A Father Who Gives Good Things — and a $50 Bill on the Wind
- Jesus' invitation: ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened — for everyone who asks receives.
- What father, when his son asks for bread, gives him a stone, or when he asks for a fish, gives him a serpent? If we, being evil, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will the Father in heaven give good things to those who ask.
- Psalm 37 gives his family testimony: "I've been young and now I'm old. I've never seen the righteous forsaken, never seen their seed begging bread."
- His dad tells the story: their single mother had given everything to move the family into a new place; they had no money and no food, bracing to be hungry — and his dad, about five years old, found a $50 bill, worth about $450 in that day, right on the ground, blown in by the wind.
- God can turn dust into manna, the wind into quail — and the wind into $50 bills. Stay faithful, keep seeking him, and trust him to provide.
Scriptures: Matthew 7; Psalms 37
All Your Need: Peace, Strength, Rest, and Wisdom
- Paul's promise is about more than money and manna: in the same chapter where he says "my God shall supply all your need," Paul, in a prison cell, says "I have all and abound; I am full," and "I have learned in whatever state I'm in there to be content."
- God provides peace: be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind.
- God provides strength — strength made perfect in your weakness, given in the very moment of weakness. He provides rest: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" — rest for your soul. And he provides wisdom: if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally.
- The invitation goes out to stand for whichever of these is needed — peace, strength, rest, wisdom — and to come to the altar and ask, because "you have not because you ask not."
- He closes with the Monday after the world shut down in March 2020: panicking over empty online grocery shelves during a staff meeting, he heard the Lord ask, "Who takes care of you?" — and the answer settles the message: the God who cared for every soul and every sandal will take care of you, down to the detail.
Scriptures: Philippians 4
Scripture index: Deuteronomy 29; Matthew 6; Numbers 11; Matthew 7; Psalms 37; Philippians 4.
I believe that the word of truth is going to bring some clarity and give answers today. I know what time it is, but I want to follow what I feel and I'm going to be as expeditious as I can. If you'll make your way to your seat, you can remain standing. And I want to turn to the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 29. If you're a guest with us, we honor you. We're so glad that you're here today. And we hope that you find an APC, a church that loves the spirit of God, wants the spirit of God to move and loves the word of God.
And the Lord's moving and working in our midst. And I just believe that his word is going to bring clarity. I have felt a very specific focus and message today, one rooted in Deuteronomy 29. Moses is wrapping up his time as a leader of his people. He exhorts them to stick with the covenant that God had provided for them. And he first does that by reminding them of how far they had come and of the Lord's provision and help along the way. Verse one, these are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab.
Besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. Now Moses called all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh to all his servants, all his land." In other words, miracles have happened. You've seen this already. the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, those great wonders. You got every reason for faith before you take this promised land. Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see, ears to hear to this very day.
And the Lord breaks in himself, says, "I've led you 40 years in the wilderness. Your clothes haven't worn out. Your sandals haven't worn out on your feet. You've not eaten bread. you've not drunk wine or similar drink that you may know why the Lord put us in this position. Why are we here? Why why am I struggling? Why why don't I have what I feel like I need? Why why am I in between a rock and a hard place? That you may know that I am the Lord and that you're not Brad Delong.
Today I want to focus on one very specific attribute of the Lord that's come roaring to my heart. I was turning the lights on in the building today and felt the glory and the presence and the spirit of God. I want to talk about our God being a provider. I want to do that through this title. Countless quail and ceaseless sandals. Our God is able to provide for every need. And he's going to give answers to somebody today who's been devoid of them. I wonder if you lift your hands with me right now and invite the presence and the glory of the Lord into your heart and life that God would speak to you plainly and clearly.
You've been wondering about this child of God. Is he GOING TO SHOW UP? Is he going to provide? Is he going to be the God his word says he is? I believe he is. Lord, you're going to make that clear today. And by the end of it, we're going to know that you are the Lord. You're answering prayers even now uh that have been prayed this week and wonderings and musings and doubts that have surfaced. You're answering those right here and right now. and we entrust this service to you and the remainder of it in Jesus name.
Amen. And you may be seated. Before I forget, I want to honor every grandparent, every CE teacher, and I want to honor the Lore family who's here. We love you. Thank you for being here. We welcome them back to the house of the Lord. And what a great host of witnesses we have. Moses is exhorting the people of God to accept and obey their covenant, their connection with God. and he makes sure as he does to remind them that their God was and is a provider of any and all of their needs.
I just feel like the Lord has come to issue the same exact reminder for the same reason today just to show up and remind someone, hey, it's me. I'm God and I am the provider AND I WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU AND I'LL PROVIDE for your children and I'll provide for your needs and I'm going to take care of you like I always have. I want to remind someone plainly and from the outset of the message of the words of Paul to the Philippians as he writes from a destitute and deplorable jail cell.
He says, "AND MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEED ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES AND GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS. MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEED ACCORDING TO his riches and glory. And to him be glory forever and ever." He says, "Amen." The same God he mentions provided for the Israelites during every literal step of their 40 years in the wilderness. And he's had he has every intention of providing for you today. No matter the extent, no matter the degree of your need, our God is able to provide.
And I'd like the chance to prove that to you using the word of God, a pair of Crocs, some modern man-made mana, and some quail and mana math. While we're at it, anybody ready? Are you ready? Are you ready for the math? All right. Some of you aren't ready for the math. STARTING WITH OUR TEXT, we see the Lord breaks into Moses' sermon. Moses is exhorting the people and the Lord speaks himself. HE SAYS, "I have led you 40 years in the wilderness. Your clothes haven't worn out on you.
Your sandals haven't worn out on your feet. You You've not eaten bread. you've not drunk wine or similar drink that you may know that I am the Lord your God. And I don't want to sidestep the whole clothes thing. That's amazing. If any of you got kids, you know, clothes get worn out pretty easily. So, the fact that they had the same pair of clothes all their life, that's pretty amazing. Or for 40 years or however many years they were in the wilderness. And uh I don't want to sidestep that, but I'm going to focus on the shoes and the quail and the mana.
To illustrate, I brought some modernday sandals. You hear the like I heard some people like some of you can't see them because they're camo. These are as close to 15th century Hebrew sandals as we can get. And to give you a little insight into my peculiar mind, when I thought of those sandals not wear wearing out, I thought of my brothers. I cannot claim these Crocs. These are my brothers. Thank God. No. So, I reached out to my wonderful brother and I said, "Hey, can I borrow your worn out Crocs?" He was wearing them as I text him.
I think every day outside of church, he wears these. I like he's got them under his desk and you can see I mean there's he's almost died in these. He's told me he's almost died. There's no tread left on those things. some worn out sandals. Like I said, probably wears them every day and that's all right. They're comfortable. These are his favorite sandals. And I asked Google if Crocs were sandals. It seems to be a heated debate. Some of you, you can come talk to me after service or form your own opinion.
It's all right. Okay. If these don't work for you AS SANDALS, JUST IMAGINE your favorite shoes that you wear. And imagine you wear them every single day. You lace them up. You hope that the leather holds on. You you wear them while you're doing your daily tasks. I'll show you mine. These are my dailies right there. Chunkas. I tell you what, you can someone comes in and they're trying to attack you, you throw those things in the air and just just Where's my mother-in-law? She knows.
YOU TAKE OUT THE TRASH IN THESE THINGS. YOU HOPE NO ONE SEES YOU. I was at Walmart and my friend Algo was there and I was wearing these and I thought, "Oh man, the one I I can't go anywhere in these. Someone's going to see me in these bad boys." You sneak out of the house hoping your wife doesn't see in them. You you do the errands in them. You do the dishes in them. And and in the CASE OF THE HEBREWS WHO uh who didn't have multiple share pairs of shoes, just imagine you're fighting King Og and King Sihon of the Ammonites with these.
And you traverse the wilderness in these. You set up 40 encampments in 40 years time. In these, you cut wood, you build fires, you gather food, you slaughter animals in these. You work, play, walk, run, fight, worship, and live in these for 40 plus years. And one day after walking through some tough terrain and walking over some rocks and maybe a little mud, obstacles in the wilderness, you look down, you realize, you know what? It's been four years since I got a new pair of sandals.
What kind of leather are those Egyptians using? You notice that the soles aren't worn out and no threads are untied. And then four years later, you have the same thought and you notice, I haven't had to buy shoes in the last eight years. What is going on? And and you think, you know what? I haven't bought the kids shoes in in that amount of time. I don't understand what's happened. 10 years later, IT STARTS TO GET A LITTLE RIDICULOUS. You've been eyeballing a new pair of Crocs or some Birkenstocks and and you're thinking, I can't buy any new shoes.
Mine are still perfect. Mine are are wonderful. 20 years in, you're thinking, "This is the best investment I have ever made. I WILL NEVER BUY another brand of shoes." 40 years in, you're standing on the edge of the promised land. The ultimate provision of God's grace, you realize Moses is right. Not a thread loose, not a soul worn, not a strap broken. You start to realize that your God cared for you down to the sandals on your feet. AND TWO OTHER PASSAGES OF SCRIPTURE WOULD TELL YOU THAT NOT EVEN YOUR FEET THEMSELVES EVER GOT SWOLLEN ONCE, EVEN AFTER TRAVELING AN ESTIMATED 1,500 MILES JUST IN BETWEEN ENCAMPMENTS.
What kind of God WOULD TAKE CARE OF MY CROCS BETTER THAN I CAN? What What KIND OF GOD WOULD PLAY SO CLOSE ATTENTION TO MY SANDALS OF ALL THINGS? WHAT KIND OF PROVIDER WOULD MAKE SURE MY feet were never swollen and my souls WERE NEVER WORN? THAT'S THE KIND OF GOD WHO JUST SPOKE TO US A MOMENT AGO. THAT'S THE KIND OF COVENANT YOU'RE IN TODAY. THAT'S THE KIND OF PROVIDER WHO'S WHO'S IN COVENANT WITH you today. The same one who acted as a shoe smith for millions of Hebrew sandals and who acted as a mana maker for millions of Hebrews mouths as well.
This one gets a little more pressed. We talk about this a little more. We we know about the mana. This isn't mana. It's the closest thing we got. God invented mana. He invented it for them. This is the one we know a little more about, but the man is no less miraculous. Our God turned evaporated dew into miraculous bread. Our God invented a new food altogether, lowered it to the ground in the night, every night with the dew of the earth, blanketed the surface with it, and provide enough of it to feed well over a million people.
He even added a little honey taste to it. I thought John the Baptist is out there eating locust and honey and those Israelites every day. They didn't have to do anything. They just had to go out and gather it and they couldn't gather too much of it. God was he was giving them pastry material. It tasted like honey. THIS IS WHAT THE THE TEXT SAYS. IT TASTE was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. And when you do the math, it's even crazier. Your faith box gets a little more shattered when you actually do the the research.
You can see all the more that our God is a provider. He can make something out of nothing. You can trust in him, child of God. I had that written five days ago in my notes and the Lord just spoken a moment ago. You can trust in God. He will not fail you. He will not leave you. HE WILL NOT FORSAKE YOU. HE WILL PROVIDE for you. HE WILL HELP YOU. HE WILL SHOW UP. LET ME JUST SETTLE IT FOR SOMEBODY. You've been wondering, "Oh, IS HE GOING TO SHOW UP FOR ME?" YES, HE WILL.
YOU CAN TRUST HIM TODAY. PUT ALL YOUR TRUST IN OUR GOD. He can turn dew and what LOOKS LIKE DUST INTO SUSTENANCE. HE'S a provider with a capital P. This struck me all the more as a couple weeks ago, we were talking about this with the kids. We've been talking about Bible stories at night and I started talking about the mana, talking about the sandals, and I thought, you know what, there's some there's some math behind this. Mariah walked by as I was sharing and I had chat GPT or one of those AI helping me with all the math.
You can fact check it, don't worry. And I was my mind was just being blown. She's laughing at me. Some of you know math sues me. I like math. All right. Some of you that uh pointed this out to me, you can deal with it. Okay. No, family. I love them. You can feel free to fact check this, but I think this is straightforward man of math. You can put it up on the screen. 600 men based on a a standard demographic multiplier for men and women in that era.
This is just four person to a family. They had very large families. So this is a fairly conservative number that uh 600,000 men could equal about 2.4 million people. Some say higher, some say lower. Over 40 years, you can go to the next slide. That massive group would have required approximately 20.3 billion gallons, 58.2 2 million metric tons of mana to survive. Uh that calculation uses the biblical daily ration of one 2.2 L per individual. I want to give you the volume statistics for those of you who are losing your minds over this like I was.
77.1 billion liters of mana in 40 years. You can go to the next slide. 20.3 billion gallons. This is two cups. 20.3 billion gallon 1.39 million gallons blanketed the camp every day over 40 years. That's 128.3 billion pounds of organic matter. Go to that next slide if you don't mind. That's enough to fill 641,500 train box cars that would have had to measure over 7,000 miles long. It's enough to fill Creve core leg 20 times. But I don't know if he's going to show up this time.
I I I don't see any dust around. That's all he really needs is dust. Yeah, but this this time I I I don't know. Maybe I should JUST TRY TO FIND MY own way. I'll just provide for myself. I'll make it. Lord, don't trouble yourself. I'll make it through. No, no, no. Our God's able. Our gods are PROV 20 times. Our God provided 20 billion gallons of mana from nothing. Your need is not too big. Your need is not too small. This is what the Lord said himself in Matthew 6.
Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you're going to eat, what you're going to drink, or about YOUR BODY, WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO PUT ON. IS not life more than food and and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air. They don't sow nor reap. They don't gather in barns, yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature. So why do you worry about clothing?
Consider the liies of the field how they grow. They don't toil. They don't spin. And yet I say to you, even Solomon, all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If God clothe the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is tossed into the oven, how much more how much more is he able? WILL HE NOT MUCH MORE clothe you, oh you of little faith? He clothed and fed millions of Israelites over 40 years. And they never really wanted anything except for the stuff they complained about.
Leaks, garlic, the food of Egypt and meat. And he even provided for their meat despite their complaining. In his book, The Circlemaker, Mark Batterson walks through the mathematical logistics of what he calls the quail storm. Numbers 11. Verse 31 says, "Now a wind went out from the Lord and it brought quail from the sea and left them fluttering near the camp about a day's journey on one side, a day's journey on the other side. All around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the ground, the people stayed up all that day, all night, and all the next day they gathered the quail.
He who gathered the least gathered 10 homers, not Homers, but Homers. And they spread them out for themselves around the camp. But while the meat's still in their mount because the Lord's so mad at him, he he strikes them down. Despite the plague, the provision is miraculous. Barrison calls this bird blizzard, quailageddon. He's got some good terms just to show you that God doesn't just answer some prayers and leave it at that. Sometimes he just likes to go exceedingly abundantly above all you could ask or think.
He uses this text literally to get the numbers. Follow me. All right. Wind drove quail in from the sea, scattered them uh as far as a day's walk in any direction around the camp. The radius. Okay. Batterson uses the traditional Hebrew system of measurement. They could walk about 15 miles a day. Uh so the radius is about 15 miles. So you can do some some math. You can take that 15 mile radius. uh yields an area of about 700 square miles. You didn't know you were going back to geometry today, but it paints a powerful picture.
For perspective, Batterson notes that that area is is 10 times larger than Washington DC. I looked at St. Louis metro. Uh we're 523 square miles in the entire metro area. Once he gets the area mapped, he talks about the depth. Bible says that they were piled up two cubits deep. It's about 3 feet over 700 square miles. Then you get the harvest value. No one gathered less than 10 homers. The biblical Homer, not Homer, equates to about 200 liters. Gathering 10 Homers means the minimum amount that a person collected was 2,000 liters of birds.
Based on just 6 million men and six uh 600,000 men, rather, that's 6 million homers of birds. 105 million quail. Why are we doing so much math, pastor? Because that's a real story about a real God who provided for real people. If our God can can send a wind and bring 105 million quail in a moment's notice, he can do anything for you. We are in the presence of the same God today. I feel his glory and power. And just like the Israelites were in covenant with him.
In fact, this is his invitation from Matthew 7. Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you'll find. Knock and the door will be open. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be open. Or or what man is there among you. When a son asks for bread, you give him a stone. OR IF HE ASKS FOR A FISH, you give him a serpent. HE SAYS, "IF YOU THEN, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask?" Anyone found that to be true?
You found God to be a provider? This is part of my family story. This is our history. Psalm 37 says, "I've been young and now I'm old. I've never seen the righteous forsaken. Never seen their seed begging bread." My dad tells one of his famous stories that their family moved into a a new place and him and his three siblings. His mom who was single at the time, she gave everything she had to move into this place. And so they just were kind of braced. We're going to be hungry for a while unless the Lord brings us something.
Had no money, no food, none of it. You got a single parent looking after four kids. They started to explore the area and dad's what, four or five, about five years old. walks over and out of the right there on the ground like that man was finds a $50 bill. $450 in that day. Blew in by the wind. God can do anything. I don't even know how far I'm going to make it today. I just feel the glory of the Lord stirring somebody's faith. I know you're looking at that bank account thinking, "I don't understand this.
I feel depleted. How's he going to do this?" You stay faithful. You stay faithful to God. You keep seeking God. God can turn dust into into mana. God can turn the wind into quail. God can turn the wind into $50 bills. You trust God. YOU KEEP FOLLOWING GOD. YOU KEEP COMING TO THIS ALTAR AND YOU KEEP LIFTING THOSE hands and you keep following him. Ah, he's going to find a way. HE ALREADY HAS A WAY. It occurred to me one day I was wrestling with a school bill broke as a joke in college.
And I thought, Lord, you know what? You got gates made of pearl. You could drop one of those things and I'd pay for my whole school bill. He doesn't need to do that, though. He can make it materialize. And unless you think we're just talking about mana and money, Paul says this, when you put that Philippians 4 back up there, and my God shall supply all your need, he I believe he's talking he's talking chiefly in that passage about material goods, but Paul's in a prison cell.
And just before that, he said, "I have all and abound. I'm full." And before that he said, "I've learned in whatever state I'm in there to be content. So maybe today it's not money, maybe it's not mana, maybe you just need peace." You know, the same chapter says, "Don't worry about anything. Be anxious for nothing. But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will be a guard over your heart and mind through Christ Jesus our Lord.
It's not just money and man all your need. Here's the four needs I just felt the Lord impress in my heart today. One is peace. Peace for those who are in turmoil. God has an abundance of peace. Anyone ever experienced that? You were in the probably a dark moment of your life and all of a sudden peace that passes all understanding and it floods your heart and mind. Where did that come from? It's like the wind blew it in. More peace than I even needed in your hour and moment of need.
Peace. God's got strength that he can provide. Strength is made perfect in your weakness. If you're wondering when God's going to provide strength, it's probably going to be in the moment of your weakness. If you didn't have if you didn't have weakness, you probably wouldn't need strength. But God's going to give strength in your weakness. And he's going to give rest. Come to me all who are labor and heavy laden, and I will give you I will provide for you rest. Take my yoke upon My yoke is easy.
My burden is light. And you'll find rest for your soul. Not for your body, not just for your mind. You're going to have a soul rest. And then the Lord's able to give wisdom. If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally. Think 105 million quails a lot. Ask the Lord for wisdom. And you'll be in a moment thinking, "I don't know what to do. Lord, I don't have the answers." And all of a sudden, wisdom comes in and the Holy Ghost moves in and you feel the wisdom of God come over you and you realize, "Wow, I I know the answer." And the Lord spoke that to us a moment ago and he's going to give the answers to somebody who's in need of it.
Our God's able to provide for your physical needs. Yes, but he's going to provide strength. He's going to provide rest. He's going to provide peace and wisdom. If you need any of those, I'm going to invite you to stand right now. We're just following the Holy Ghost. If you need any of those, stand right now in this place. He told us in the sermon on the mount, he said, "I know what you need before you even ask it." You probably, you might not even know what you need.
You look around. You think the Lord knows what he's doing today. I didn't go to any of these people beforehand and say, "Hey, in the moment, I need you to stand. I even plan to do this." God knows. I feel it's almost like I hear the sound of a wind coming through and that provision you've been looking for. He's coming. This isn't some prosperity gospel. This is the word of truth. And our God's done it before and he's able to do it again. If you believe that, I want you to lift your hands right now all across this place.
Would you lift your hands to heaven and begin to thank the Lord and begin to call on the Lord and ask the Lord? He said, "You have not because you ask not." Would you ask God for what you need today? Ah, would you begin to ask the Lord? Oh, Jesus, I need it. And now, while you're doing that, I'm going to open this altar. If you need the Lord, if you need his help and you've got faith that God's able to do it, I wonder if you just step out and say, you know what, Lord, I'm going to come and I'm going to get the wisdom right here and now that I need.
I need peace. OH, GOD. I HAVEN'T HAD IT ALL WEEK. The Monday after the world shut down, March 2020, our staff was gathered in that office over there trying to figure out what in the world do we do with this worldwide epidemic that's taking place.
And I apologize to our our bishop. He was steering that meeting that day trying to was a lot on his shoulders. Part of that meeting, I was at walmart.com trying to find groceries because we were supposed to go on vacation that week with our family. We had intentionally bought nothing. And I remember panicking, seeing no pasta, no rice. I don't know who was buying all the rice. I do know someone who was buying them. We took a break that meeting. I remember right in the middle of washing my hands because co, you know, we had to wash our hands.
The Lord broke in in that moment like he did today. He asked me, he said, "Who takes care of you?" I said, "You do." He said, "Then why are you afraid? child of God who takes care of you. Have you been doing this all on your own this whole time? Or is our God faithful? He's going to take care of you just like he did. Every soul of every sandal, our God down to the detail, he's going to take care of you. Oh, you I feel appraise well enough.
You believe that? Would you just thank the Lord? Huh? Jesus, thank you for taking care of us. Lord, there's never been a day that we've walked alone. Ah, but you've been with us AND WE PRAISE YOU AND WE exalt you in the hour of need. We exalt you. We magnify you, our great provider. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. He's going to continue to do that. And I believe we're going to hear testimonies, not only those 10 miracles I'm believing.
Thank you, brother Magcguire, for being sensitive. And we're going to hear about those. We're going to hear about more of what the Lord is doing. I heard one just today while service was taking uh taking place. And we're going to invite others to be a part of that.
