Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
- The preacher opens with a simple subject he loves: everything in the message revolves around Jesus, and he expects God to show up in individual lives and needs as Jesus is lifted up.
- Hebrews 12:1-2 calls believers to throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and to run the race with perseverance, fixing their eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- The great cloud of witnesses is the hall of faith in Hebrews 11 — the men and women of God who lived faithfully — surrounding those who run today.
- From 1 Peter 2:25 he takes his title: the sheep who were going astray have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of their souls — this is getting back to Jesus, whether for the first time or for the hundredth time.
- He admits he had another message planned that he thought would sound impressive, but after praying that God would build and strengthen His church, everything changed and scripture upon scripture began to flow.

It's Not About the Money: The Principle of Hebrews 13
- Walking the congregation through Hebrews 13 — the love of money, strange teachings, and suffering — he has them repeat after him, "It's not about the money," because the point is the principle underneath each issue.
- Hebrews 13:5-6: keep your lives free from the love of money and be content, because God has said He will never leave or forsake His people, so they can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid."
- Instead of fixing their eyes on money, believers are to fix them on what is most valuable — the presence of Jesus active in their lives.
- Hebrews 13:9-10 warns against being carried away by strange teachings and says hearts are strengthened by grace, not ceremonial foods; the church has an altar — Jesus himself — better than any other form of wisdom or religious experience.
- Hebrews 13:12-14: Jesus suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through His own blood, so His followers should go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore, since here they have no enduring city but are looking for the city that is to come.
Scriptures: Hebrews 13; Hebrews 13:5-6; Hebrews 13:9-10; Hebrews 13:12-14
Do Not Worry: Seek First the Kingdom
- In Matthew 6, Jesus says the Father knows what His people need before they ask, so prayer is not spent on the needs themselves but begins, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come."
- Matthew 6:19-21: do not store up treasures on earth, where moths, vermin, and thieves destroy and steal, but treasures in heaven, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- Jesus repeats the command through the chapter — verse 28, verse 31, and verse 34 all say, in his telling, do not worry about life, food, clothing, and the things needed to live.
- The key is verse 33: seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all the things people stress over, stay up late over, and arrange their lives around will be given as well.

All the Treasures of Wisdom Are Hidden in Christ
- Titus 3:4-9: God saved His people not because of righteous things they had done, but because of His mercy, through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, poured out generously through Jesus Christ, so that, justified by grace, they become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
- The same passage says to avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, and quarrels about the law, because they are unprofitable and useless — knowledge that is not fixed on Jesus and His salvation misses the mark.
- Second Timothy 2:8 gives the standing order: remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead and descended from David; if we died with Him we will live with Him, if we endure we will reign with Him, and if we are faithless He remains faithful.
- Colossians 2:2-4 says the goal is hearts encouraged and united in love, with the full riches of complete understanding, knowing the mystery of God — Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
- Colossians 2:8 warns against being taken captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy based on human tradition rather than on Christ; in Christ all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ believers have been brought to fullness.
- Second Peter 1:3 adds that His divine power has given everything needed for a godly life through the knowledge of Him who called them by His own glory and goodness.

We Preach Christ Crucified
- First Corinthians 1:18-25: the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those being saved it is the power of God, who destroys the wisdom of the wise and frustrates the intelligence of the intelligent.
- Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but the church's message does not change to suit either — we preach Christ crucified, and to those God has called, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
- If even the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, then the deepest thought a person can think is Jesus; the best learning happens in the presence of God as He teaches and grows His people.
- First Corinthians 1:30: it is because of God that believers are in Christ Jesus, who has become for them wisdom from God — their righteousness, holiness, and redemption.
- So the thing to boast about is not education or knowledge but knowing Jesus: the greatest thing in the preacher's life today and every day is walking with Him.
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25; 1 Corinthians 1:30
The Mind of Christ and the Foundation of the Simple Things
- First John teaches that Jesus takes an active role in teaching His own: the anointing received from Him remains in them and teaches them about all things, and what it taught them is to remain in Him.
- In First Corinthians, Paul says his message and preaching were not wise and persuasive words but a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so faith would rest on God's power, not human wisdom.
- God's wisdom is a mystery the rulers of this age did not understand — if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory — but God has revealed it by His Spirit, who searches even the deep things of God.
- Who has known the mind of the Lord? Those who have the mind of Christ; the deep things of God are known only through a relationship with Jesus, not by chasing deep things while foregoing the foundation.
- What people call the simple things — a prayer life, reading the Word, spiritual disciplines, church, fasting, giving — God calls vital: a house without a foundation does not stand.
- He testifies that Jesus taught him and his wife how to love and sacrifice for each other; without Jesus as the foundation, no relationship, financial plan, education, or career will hold in the end.
Scriptures: 1 John (book-only, as spoken); 1 Corinthians (book-only, as spoken)
The Answer in This Life and the Life to Come
- Ephesians 2:6-7: God raised believers up with Christ and seated them with Him in the heavenly realms, so that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to them in Christ Jesus.
- In Second Corinthians 12:2-4, Paul tells of a man caught up to the third heaven, into paradise, who heard inexpressible things no one is permitted to tell — a glimpse of the life to come that cannot be described.
- Revelation 21:3-4 shows God's dwelling place among His people: He will dwell with them, wipe away every tear, and there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
- John 14:1-6: Jesus comforts troubled hearts — He goes to prepare a place in His Father's house and will come back to take His people to be with Him; when Thomas asks the way, Jesus answers, "I am the way and the truth and the life."
- First Thessalonians comforts a church that had lost saints: the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet call of God; the dead in Christ will rise first, and those still alive will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord — to be with Jesus forever.
Scriptures: Ephesians 2:6-7; 2 Corinthians 12:2-4; Revelation 21:3-4; John 14:1-6; 1 Thessalonians (book-only, as spoken)
No Foundation Other Than Jesus Christ
- First Corinthians 3:10 gives the bottom line: by the grace God gave him, Paul laid a foundation as a wise builder, and no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ; each one should build on it with care.
- Colossians 1, which the preacher calls a poem, says the Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation; in Him all things were created, He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
- He is the head of the body, the church, the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.
- God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, making peace through His blood shed on the cross — Jesus is both the foundation and the one holding everything built on it together.
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 3:10; Colossians 1
From the Garden to the Last Chapter: Come On Back
- In the beginning, Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden and could ask the Creator himself what it truly means to be faithful and to love Him; then sin severed that walk and they were put out of the garden.
- At the end of the Bible, in Revelation 22, the last chapter, God's people will see His face and His name will be on their foreheads — the final act of God's redemptive plan is getting back to Jesus.
- The preacher confesses his own need: moments when other things took his focus and attention and decided how he saw the world, and asks God's forgiveness; every day for the rest of our lives is a journey to get back to Jesus.
- There is no list long enough of diseases, sickness, depression, anxiety, and problems, because all of them are taken care of when we get back to Jesus.
- He warns that a church busy with events and ministries that misses Jesus first becomes a shallow, empty shell; before going out to others, the church must come back to Him so it knows who it is connecting people to.
- The altars open for three groups — those coming to Jesus for the first time, those who have drifted or let other things take the throne, and those returning to closeness with God — and he prays that every hurdle and obstacle would be cleared for those on their way back, because in His presence each person finds peace, rest, and answers.

i get to speak on a subject this morning that that i'm excited to speak about it's simply really it revolves around jesus you'll have to excuse me if if i enjoy myself a little too much while i'm preaching while i'm while i'm speaking i may get caught up i mean caught up in what i'm talking about because i love the subject i love the subject matter and i believe you do too i believe that this church loves jesus i believe this church is devoted and committed to jesus now that being said i've told a few people this i i've got more notes than i know
what to do with and they're all scripture it's all it's all scripture okay it's all for the book i've got more than i know what to do with and i've got more than you have patience to endure i know that today i'm well aware but i think god has just given me an abundance to talk about him today and so wherever we land when we start talking about jesus wherever we land wherever god wants to show up i could go however long i go however short but when god shows up as we lift him up that's where we're going to land and god's going to
move and god's going to do a work he's going to show up not not just collectively but he's going to show up in the individual lives and the individual needs that are represented in this place jesus is going to show up he's going to show up i'm gonna i'm gonna read two opening texts give you my title and i'll have you be seated is that all right we're good hebrews 12 1-2 it says therefore since we're surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses talking about that hebrews 11 chapter that hall of faith all those great men and women of god who lived faithfully he
says since we're surrounded by that great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us here's the key fixing our eyes on jesus the pioneer the one who got it all started in the first place and the perfector the one who's going to take it to its fulfillment let's fix our eyes on that jesus for the joy set before him he endured the cross scorning its shame and now he sat down at the right hand of the throne of god let's fix our
eyes on that jesus fix our attention on that jesus and then first peter 2 25 for you were like sheep going astray but now you have returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls from that last verse there from first peter this is what this is my title for today it's simply getting back to jesus getting back to jesus something so simple in our minds but so powerful so foundational so important so necessary getting back to jesus let's pray here at the outset father we want to get back to you today we want to fix our eyes again once again on you lord some
of us have lived a long time with you others we've experienced you just a few moments in our life but no matter the no matter our context jesus the answer is the same we need to get to you whether for the first time or for the second third fifth or hundredth time lord we need to get to you so jesus i pray that you help us i pray that you help me to present you today and to respond to you and get back to you jesus that's what we want that's what we want everybody said amen you all can go ahead and be seated i
i was uh reading the the book of hebrews i had something else planned for this morning and to tell you the truth i thought it was going to be amazing i was like thank you lord i'm going to sound so smart it's going to be so great i'm going to present all this stuff and i sat down began to read and i said lord i know you want to build your church and strengthen your church would you just use me to do it that's that's a silly prayer to pray when you've already got material ready because i sat down prayed that prayer and everything got
changed around but all of a sudden things started to flow and i ended up with scripture upon scripture and that's what i mean i got more than i know what to do with but i think god wants to speak to us a very in our mind simple message but a very necessary a very crucial a very vital message that we need to in our life get back to jesus at all times each and every day we need to make an intentional decision i need to get back to jesus today i was reading in the book of hebrews in the chapter 13. i need to do
something with you that i do with my youth back on wednesday night though and that is you're going to repeat after me okay we're going to talk about some different circumstances and hebrews 13 he talks about the love of money and strange teachings and suffering and identifying with jesus but i'm going to take that first one where he says keep yourself from the love of money here's what i want you to do repeat after me it's not about the money does that make sense i'm not here to talk about not just love and money okay but i want to talk about a principle that the
author of hebrews is getting at at the end of chapter 13. this is what he says in 5-6 he says keep your lives from the love of money and be content with what you have because god has said here's the reason because god has said never will i leave you never will i forsake you so we say with everybody say that word with me so we say with confidence the lord is my helper i will not be afraid what can mere mortals do to me now i want you to repeat after me again it's not about the money it's about the principle of the thing
that instead of focusing on money instead of fixing our eyes on money we fix our our eyes on the thing that is more valuable in fact the most valuable and that is the presence of god in our life it's the presence of jesus active in our life he goes on in hebrews 13 9 through 10 and context they're dealing with how you define wisdom how do you know you're smart how do you know you get all the right knowledge and he says don't be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings don't don't focus on that stuff instead it is good for our hearts to
be strengthened by grace meaning jesus not by eating ceremonial foods and all the other things that the people of the day were doing which is really of no benefit to them because it doesn't involve jesus says we have an altar i love this we have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat that altar being jesus we have a better altar than any other form of wisdom than any other form of religious experience or religious teaching we have an altar and his name is jesus and it's the greatest altar it's the greatest experience that you could ever have
in this life and the next hebrews 13 12-14 it goes on he says talking about the manner jesus died he said jesus suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood he suffered a disgraceful death he wasn't even in the city that he loved he was outside the camp he was outside the city but then he goes on he says let us then go to him outside the camp bearing the disgrace he bore be be willing to identify with him rather than cultural acceptance or societal acceptance he says for here we do not have an enduring city but we are
looking for the city that is to come repeat after me it's not about the money i know there are some specific things in there that could be handled but what i'm getting at is the principle of the thing that there are some issues in life that you could worry about you could worry about money and finances and loving that and pursuing that you could worry about what it means to be wise and you could worry about degrees or education you you could focus on that job that career whatever it is you could focus on being culturally accepted and being pleasing in the side of human
beings you could do all of that stuff but the writer of hebrew says no scratch all that out of your mind what you really need to do is get back to jesus what you really need to do is value the presence of jesus in your life here's what i'm going to do okay i'm going to baptize you in scripture are y'all is that okay is this a church that just loves hearing scripture read out loud is this a church that enjoys the word of the lord matthew 6 jesus is talking he says don't be like them meaning those who don't know god the pagans for
your father he knows what you need before you even ask he he knows what you need so he says so when you pray don't pray about those needs instead you pray our father in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven don't worry about all those needs instead fix your eyes on the kingdom of god or if you will fix your eyes on jesus matthew 6 19-21 it says don't store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moss and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal but store up for yourselves treasures
in heaven where moths and vermin do not destroy them where thieves do not break in and steal for where your treasure is there your heart will be also in other words don't fix your eyes on on accumulating things in this life and in this world this earth instead fix your eyes and focus on accumulating wealth in the spiritual realm and that relationship with jesus christ and and i love this it's all throughout matthew 6 and 25 he says yeah don't worry about your life matthew 6 28 he says why do you worry why do you worry verse 31 he says do not worry verse 34
he says do not worry talking about life and the things that you need in this life the things that you need to to live life food and clothing and all those he says don't worry about any of those things and then the key is in verse 33 where he says instead seek first the kingdom seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these other things you know all that stuff that we spend so much time stressing over all that stuff that we spend so much time worrying about and focusing on and fixing our eyes on and and staying up late at night and waking
up early in the morning making sure all our ducks in a row you know what jesus has to say about those things he says you know those are just the other things what you really need to focus your eyes on is the kingdom of god and living in a righteous relationship with him that's the true focus of the christian life that's truly what we should be getting at we need to get back to jesus and i'm not done baptizing you if that's okay when we're concerned about what we know and the wisdom we have the knowledge we have maybe the degrees or or whatever it
is you know some people they're like oh you're working on higher education i'm like i am i've spent a lot of time and money to figure out that i really love jesus i've spent a lot of time and money figuring out that i really just love jesus i really just love his word paul says in titus 3 4-9 says but when the kindness and love of god our savior appeared he saved us not because of righteous things we had done but because his mercy he saved us through the washing of rebirth and the renewal by the holy spirit whom he poured out on us generously
through jesus christ our savior so that having been justified by his grace we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life this is a trustworthy saying paul says and i want you to stress these things so that those who have trusted in god may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good these things are excellent and profitable for every what these things that salvation of jesus that we get to experience these things are excellent and profitable verse 9 but avoid foolish controversies genealogy arguments and quarrels about the law because these are unprofitable and useless sometimes we can fix our eyes on these
other things and think we're so smart and think we're so intelligent i've been there i've done that i've experienced people that have been there and done that but what paul says is you know that stuff really is useless if your eyes aren't fixed on jesus christ if your eyes aren't fixed on the salvation that you've experienced through his name through the washing and the water and the receiving of his spirit if you haven't done that then you've really missed the mark paul says in second timothy 2 he says in verse 8 he says remember jesus christ remember bring to memory bring to mind jesus christ
raised from the dead descended from david this is my gospel he says this is a trustworthy saying if we died with him we will also live with him if we endure we will also reign with him if we disown him he will also disown us if we are faithless he remains faithful for he cannot disown himself keep reminding god's people of these things meaning jesus and that relationship with them warn them before god against quarreling about words it is of no value and only ruins those who listen he says remember jesus focus on jesus get rid of all that other nonsense that you think is
smart or wisdom because really that stuff it's of no value and it is it ruins those who listen it ruins those who listen colossians 2 2 3 4 are you with me are you with me colossians 2 2 my goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding in order that they may know the mystery of god namely christ and whom in whom are hidden all the treasures how much of the treasures all of the treasures in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge i tell you this
so that no one may deceive you by fine sounding arguments things that sound good things that sound like they've been thought out and they're intelligent but if they don't have anything to do with christ paul says no that's just deception it goes on in verse 8 c2 that no one takes you captive through hallow and decept empty empty in deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on christ for in christ all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form and in christ you have been brought to fullness in christ there's nothing lacking when you've
had an experience with christ you don't need anything else you don't need to go looking for something to add to your experience with christ if you've got jesus in your life if you've got an experience with jesus you have been brought to fullness why because he is the head over every power and over every authority what do you have to be afraid of what do you have to think is higher than him if he's the head if he's on top of this thing if he's sitting on top of the mountain where else can you go to get higher than jesus yeah ii peter 1 3
i'm not done we're still going down hold your breath ii peter 1 3 he says his divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him how do we have everything we need to live a godly life through our knowledge of through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness first corinthians 1 18-25 for the message of the cross it's foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of god for it is written i will destroy the wisdom of the wise the intelligence of the
intelligent i will frustrate where is the wise person where is the teacher of the law where is the philosopher of this age has not god made foolish the wisdom of the world for since in the wisdom of god the world through its wisdom did not know him it could not know him god was pleased to the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe in and what was preached he gets to in a second he says jews they demand signs and greeks they're looking for wisdom but we preach we preach christ crucified that is our message and we're not varying from it we're
not going to give in to those who just want signs we're not going to give in to those who just want something that sounds intelligent but has nothing to do with the power of god or his word we're going to stay on message at this church we're going to stay on message at apostolic pentecostal church we're going to preach the wisdom and the power of god which is christ crucified we need to get back to this very simple and very basic message and that is jesus it's jesus yeah he said it's a stumbling block to everybody else but to those whom god has called but
jews and greeks christ is the power of god and the wisdom of god and he adds this at the end he says you know the foolishness of god is actually wiser than human wisdom and the weakness of god is stronger than he what does that say when when paul is saying jesus is in fact the wisdom of god if he says the foolishness of god is wiser than humans what is the wisdom of god like do you know what the deepest thought you could think is jesus do you know what what the depths of all wisdom and knowledge that you could dive into the to
the deep you know what it is it's jesus you can get caught up in a lot of other things you can focus on a lot of it trust me okay we i've been there we've got a lot of people with higher education in this room but i think all of us would have the same statement the best thing that i spend my time thinking about is jesus the best moments i have learning and gaining wisdom and gaining understanding it's time in the presence of god it's those times whenever i am just raptured up in his presence and he begins to teach me begins to help
me and grow me it's jesus it's jesus there's no other answer first corinthians 1 30 through 21 it's because of him that you are in christ jesus who has become for us wisdom from god that is our righteousness holiness and redemption therefore as it is written let the one who boasts both if you're gonna celebrate anything if you're gonna boast about knowing anything do you know what you should celebrate do you know what you should boast about do you know what you should be excited about knowing do you know what you should be excited about having in this brain of ours in this heart of
ours it's knowing this king of kings and this lord of lords it's this experience and this relationship with that one jesus christ we need to get back to this kind of joy this kind of celebration yeah oh you know what i'm boasting about today i know jesus you want to know what i'm happy about today i'm walking with jesus you want to know what is the greatest thing in my life today and every day it is jesus it's jesus not only do we have to read an ancient text about jesus and study his life but first john tells us he says as for you the
anointing you received from him remains in you and you do not need anyone to teach you jesus takes an active role in teaching you he says but as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real not counterfeit just as it has taught you what did it teach them what did the spirit teach him remain and who who's him remain in jesus paul tells us in first corinthians he's he says my message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words but with demonstration of the spirit's power so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom but on god's
power we do however speak a message of wisdom among the mature the spiritually mature but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age who are coming in nothing they're losing they're losing it says no in verse 7 no we declare god's wisdom a mystery that has been hidden and that god destined for our glory before time began none of the rulers of this age understood god's wisdom oh i love that he says they don't get it but as we keep reading watch who does for if they had they would not crucify the lord of glory however as it is written
when no eye has seen when no ear has heard what no human mind has conceived the things god has prepared for those who love him these are the things god has revealed to us by his spirit the spirit searches all things even the deep things of god for who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them in the same way no no one knows the thoughts of god except the spirit of god what we have received is not the spirit of the world not not worldly wisdom not worldly understanding but the spirit who is from god so that we may understand what god
has freely so they didn't get it the rulers of this world didn't get it but we've received something that's going to help us get it and what are we getting what's the wisdom of god he's talking about jesus what are we understanding jesus he finishes off like this he says four who has known the mind of the lord so as to instruct him but we have the mind of chris who has known the deep things of of god who has known that the answer is no one except those who have the mind of the mind of christ you want to know the deep things of
god get to know jesus you want to know the deep things of god have a relationship have a relationship with jesus you know what the greatest trick the enemy can play on christians is we can get so concerned about the deep things of god we can get so concerned about some of those things that there isn't a whole lot said now they're true they're real but we don't have a whole lot to go off of and then we forego the foundation we forego having a prayer life we forego reading the word we forego knowing jesus in preference of the deep things of god can i
tell you if a house doesn't have a foundation that house doesn't stand the roof's gonna come caving in the walls are gonna fall out the doors are gone windows go if you don't have a foundation if you don't walk in what god calls the true wisdom and that is simply a relationship with jesus knowing who he is if you don't have that first if you're not walking there first you can't know the deep things of god because only those that have a relationship with jesus paul reminds us can know the deep things of god what we call simple prayer life bible reading spiritual disciplines church
intense fasting giving in the offer things we call simple things oh yeah those are things yeah those are the simple those are the ease those are the basics you heard that those are the simple things what we call simple god calls vital what we call the little things god calls these are the things that everything else hinges on what we call the the the things that yeah we could do we could not they become cliche to us right the things that we look at that way god is saying no this is the most important thing that you could do in your life have a relationship
and know jesus can i tell you that all throughout life no matter what the situation is no matter what you could think of you know what the answer is at all times jesus that might seem too simple to some of us some are saying well what about all this and what about that what about this situation let me who's ever had a problem or a situation or trial in this room pretty much everybody right now who say another question who has found that jesus was ultimately the answer keep those hands up for how many would say jesus was ultimately the answer yeah here we go
here we go trust you mind standing up for me she's like oh lord she's real shy this is my beautiful wonderful loving caring awesome wife tressa wright if you don't know her go say hi after service tres and i she's like oh lord trust and i let let me just celebrate and brag okay tres and i have a wonderful marriage i am thankful for this woman each and every day i lucked out okay i'm ugly and stupid and she's smart and beautiful okay i had i hit the jackpot i hit the lottery okay but do you know why you want to know why we have
a good marriage do you know who taught me to love her properly do you want to know who taught me to sacrifice for my family and for my wife do you want to who taught her how to treat me as her husband if we don't have jesus y'all if we don't have that that bare that foundation if we don't have the start of things if we don't have principles in our life that come from him this doesn't work no other relationship will work you could be thank you so much no other relationship with work your money won't work your financial plans won't work your education
won't work your career won't work it might last for a little bit you might have a good time for a little bit but at the end of the day if you don't have jesus if you don't have jesus you have foregone the foundation and that whole house will come crashing it but even in the next life paul says how we doing on time are we okay are we good you you tell me bishop you tell me you tell me ephesians 2 6-7 paul says and god raised us up with christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in christ jesus in order that
in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace expressing his kindness to us in christ jesus second corinthians 12 2 through 4 paul's talking about a man who was caught up to the third heaven he's caught up in a paradise in verse four he says he was caught up in a paradise and heard inexpressible things things that no one is permitted to tell he experienced a little bit of heaven and he said i can't even talk about it i can't even begin to explain or describe what's coming in the life to come revelation 21 3-4 helps us says look god's dwelling
place is now among the people and he will dwell with them they will be his people and god himself will be with him and be their god he will wipe away every tear there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away and that sounds wonderful that's amazing i love what's coming i love what's coming but jesus tells us in john 14 1-6 he says don't let your hearts be troubled you believe in god you you believe in god believe also in me my father's house has many rooms talking about the same thing here
if that were not so i wouldn't have told you that i was going to prepare a place for you and if i go and prepare a place for you i will come back to take you to be with me that you also may be where i am you know the way to the place where i'm going and thomas responds he says lord we we don't know where you're going so how can we know the way jesus answers and he says i am the way i am the truth i am the life and no one comes to god no one comes to the father except through
me so whether it's in this life or in the life to come do you know what the answer is jesus what happens before this time what what about this middle time before heaven is fully culminated and maybe we pass away in the meantime paul says in philippians in second corinthians he says man if i pass away from this body guess where i'm going to be i'm going to be with jesus so he's going to close his eyes in one millisecond on this side of eternity and he's going to open his eyes in another millisecond and who's he going to be staring at jesus he says
in first thessalonians he's dealing with the church they lost a lot of people they lost a lot of saints and paul begins to come for them and what does he say he says the lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command with the voice of the archangel with the trumpet call of god and the dead in christ they're going to rise first and after that we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the who's the lord to meet jesus in the air that's where we're going and so we will be
with the we'll be with jesus forever therefore because that's where we're headed we're headed to be with jesus therefore encourage or comfort one another with these words i have baptized you in the word today because i love it i love what the bible has to say about having a relationship and knowing jesus but if i could just give you a bottom line if i could just summarize all of what i'm trying to say today paul helps me out in 1st corinthians 3 verse 10 he says by the grace god has given me i laid a foundation as a wise builder someone else they may come
and build on that foundation but each one should build with care for no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid which is jesus christ you can't go anywhere else you can't build your life on anything else paul says in colossians 1 this is actually a poem i love it he says the son is the image of the invisible god the firstborn over all creation for in him all things were created things in heaven and on earth visible and invisible whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities all things have been been created through him and for him he is before all
things and in him all things in him and who in jesus all things hold together all things hold together and he is the head of the body the church he's the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead so that in everything he might have the supremacy for god was pleased to have all the fullness dwell in him and through him to reconcile to himself all things whether things on earth or things in heaven by making peace through his blood shed on the cross not only is the foundation of this whole ordeal jesus but everything then that is built on that foundation that needs to
be held up held together do you know who's doing that too jesus you know i don't know how else to say it we need to get back to jesus we need to get back to jesus we need to get back to jesus this is an observation and it's a little anachronistic i'll admit so all the theologians in the room just forgive me i'm having fun with the bible okay but in the beginning of genesis we see the story of adam and eve and they're walking with god right it says in the cool day they'd walk with god in the garden they'd have that face-to-face relationship
they'd walk with him they taught imagine that moment would you help me pastor brad imagine that moment you're going to be god so you're walking with you lead the way because you're god i'm gonna follow you you just start walking around imagine being this person you know god i was thinking why is this guy blue he would know i'm not putting you on the spot yeah you know god i was thinking why do giraffes have such long necks you know god i was thinking what does it what does it truly mean to be faithful what does it truly mean to to love you what what
does it truly mean to to walk with you and to understand your way what what does it truly mean to god i've been wondering about these things and they got to ask god himself they got to ask the creator of the cosmos the one who started this game and set the rules for it right they got to do they got to walk that sort of life with god if you mind just stay right here with me and then we we get all the way to the end that was severed sin steps in it was severed kicked out of the garden angels at the door they
can't get in right then we get to the end of of the bible and revelation in fact the last chapter of revelation again i know this is anachronistic but just have fun with me with the bible okay jason put that scripture up there from revelation 22 and this is what it says at the end of the day at the end of all of time in history what's going to happen they will see who's they will see jesus's face and his name will be on the foreheads there's been a long time and i know we have a relationship with god but there's a bit of a
separation of there's a bit of a separation right we can life's not perfect life's not beautiful we have hard times sometime but one day the final act of of god is getting back to jesus the final act of history is getting back to jesus final moments god's redemptive plan and his history and his purpose for the world is getting back it's getting back to jesus god forgive me for every moment i've walked away from you maybe i wasn't living in sin or rebellion but i found other things important and i let other things decide how i saw the world and saw myself and i let
other things take my focus and my attention lord and i'm just being real this morning lord forgive me of that i need to get back to jesus each and every day for the rest of our life we're on a journey to get back to jesus because when we get there when we get back to jesus i used to be in the habit of listing things and saying if you've got disease or sickness or depression or anxiety or you and i would list problems right i would list problems to give examples and and i would say and god is the answer jesus is the answer but
do you know when i this morning i'm not going to list the thing because there's not a list long enough there's not a list long enough for me to look at that list and say you know what all of those things are taken care of when we get back to jesus when we get back to jesus would you all stand with me please i know i've said a lot and i want to thank you for sticking with me thank you so much i believe the lord was trying to help us today i think he was trying to help us you know we're spooling up here
at the church we're doing a lot of things we've got a lot of events a lot of ministries going on and i love it it's wonderful we're ministering to our community we're ministering to our church our focus is on others i'm excited are you excited about that i'm excited about that i i love building the kingdom and i know we get tired i understand all that but at the end of the day i love it i love being a part of the kingdom of god but you know if we miss this first thing if we miss jesus then all of our events and all of
our polished planting and everything we do ends up being just a shallow shell an empty shell with nothing of power in it it's just an activity at that point when we go to others and we don't have jesus who are we connecting them to y'all we're going to keep doing all those things we're going to keep doing all those ministries man i feel the lord calling us saying okay but before you go out and do those things i need you to come back i need you to come back to me if you're feeling the voice of the lord right now whether it's the first time
that you've experienced jesus or maybe you just need to get back to him whatever your case i feel the lord calling us these altar areas are open the sizes so you can pray and pew whatever you want to do but i feel the lord calling us i feel them calling and said hey hey you need to get back to jesus you need to get your focus and your eyes and your attention back on jesus maybe we've been distracted maybe we've had our attention our focus other other places maybe they're not bad maybe they're not sin maybe they're just a weight maybe they're just a weight
maybe they're just a distraction and even still i feel the lord calling us hey get your eyes back on me because when you do that you're going to find everything you need when you find yourself in the presence of jesus no matter the issue no matter the problem you find your answer let's get back to jesus this world will do jesus jesus nothing in this world jesus jesus had it will always be you jesus jesus jesus nothing in this world jesus jesus is it will always be nothing in this world jesus jesus yes it's always been you jesus jesus jesus jesus nothing jesus jesus jesus
from beginning to the end it will always be nothing in this world will do jesus jesus yes would you stand and sing this together jesus jesus jesus this morning i felt directed to pray a very specific prayer i don't mean to embarrass anyone today i want to pray for a group of people that are on their way back to him i don't want a group this size there's some individuals maybe you've been here every sunday but you felt a disconnect from him and you haven't walked as closely with him as you saw demonstrated a moment ago and you say you know what yeah i'm coming
back or maybe you're coming back to this apc family and you want that closeness with god again and you haven't had that and life has worn you down this prayers for those individuals as well i just felt this sense and the lord helped me to clear every hurdle out of the way for those who are coming back to him who have tried other things and to realize that there's nothing quite like jesus and there's really nothing like him at all but you've been missing jesus in a new and so you've missed everything i just want to clear the hurdles today and say why don't you
come on back to jesus and then lastly for those who are just trying to get to jesus for the first time maybe you're a guest with us today and you're saying i just want to get to him if you fit in any of those categories again i'm not trying to embarrass you but i want to activate this church family to pray with you would you just lift your hand this morning and say you know what i'm trying to get to jesus right now you can see several throughout the building church i wonder if you'd go and pray right now like that was your own family
member that's coming back to him oh we're going to pause here and let god bring some people back who have maybe drifted away from him or have walked away oh god i feel you're calling us back lord i feel you're calling some family members back my bill you're calling some prodigals back i feel you calling some saints of god who have neglected their walk with you and they put other things on the throne i feel you calling us back this morning and i pray you would clear every hurdle and you would clear every obstacle that you would make away and this church family would help
make a way for someone to come back to you i'll lift your voice church baby knowing this is an eternal moment when someone's made a decision i'm going back to him thank you jesus feel the moment of consecration and calling even conviction some of us may have drifted a little bit and the lord's just saying come on back find your peace and your rest and your answers it's all in him
