Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Created by Him and for Him

  • All things were created by the Lord — in heaven and on earth, things seen and unseen, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers — and all things were created for him.
  • Everything that was created, including each person, started in him and finds its purpose in him; the one who created all things can create a way where there seems to be none.
  • We are God's workmanship — his masterpiece, not junk — created in Christ Jesus for the purpose of good works.
  • God planned long ago and ordained beforehand that we should walk in those good works, joining him in the works he does, which fits the church's theme of being the church.

Scriptures: Colossians 1:16; Ephesians 2:10

How God Views Us

  • God saw a purpose when he saw each of us; he told Isaiah, I'm your Creator, and you were in my care even before you were born.
  • No life is an accident, a mishap, or a fluke of nature; parents may not have planned a child, but God did — long before anyone was conceived by their parents, they were conceived in the mind of God.
  • God prescribed every detail of our lives, including our appearance, talents, skills, and the uniqueness of our personalities, and we should not try to change what he has intended.
  • The psalmist declares that the Lord will perfect and fulfill his purpose for us and will not forsake the works of his own hands.
  • Chaos, trials, sickness, and marital strain do not disqualify anyone from God's purpose; as with Joseph, Daniel, Moses, and Abraham, God uses what happens to us to make us what he needs us to be — we are not set aside, we are set apart.
  • God speaks of his people as redeemed, purchased, bought with a price, beloved, and precious, so we should pray, God help me to view myself through your eyes.

Scriptures: Psalms 138:8

How We Should View Ourselves

  • Accept and be yourself: a proper biblical self-esteem means feeling good about ourselves, about God, and about one another, without arrogance or pride.
  • Being yourself does not mean being lazy or a slacker; it means being your God-called, God-shaped self, doing what you can do according to his will.
  • Do not be distracted by the opinions of others or try to be someone else; comparing ourselves with others and wearing a calling that was not fitted for us gets us in trouble.
  • Paul thanked Christ Jesus our Lord, who enabled him and counted him faithful, putting him into the ministry — and God deliberated, rather than acting on a whim, before choosing and placing each of us.
  • The word 'enabled' means God has clothed and fitted each of us with a purpose, the way a jacket is tailored to fit the person who wears it.

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 1:12

Who God Says We Are

  • In John he says you are a child of God who belongs to him; in Second Corinthians, that no matter what has happened in the past you are a new creation; and in John, that you are a friend of Jesus.
  • Galatians says you are free in Christ, whatever tries to keep you in bondage from serving the Lord and his purpose.
  • According to First Thessalonians, we are the light of the world; people sense the light of Jesus Christ because of his Spirit inside us, and that same Spirit is with us throughout the whole day.
  • We must not hide that light under a bushel or try to blend in, but let the light of the gospel, the Word, worship, and faith shine — speaking a word and praying a prayer for others as God leads.
  • Second Timothy says God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind; we are not ruled by fear.
  • Colossians points out that we are forgiven — no matter what we have done, the blood has covered it — and that we are God's possession, secure in him, and loved by God, so we should wear God's identity tag rather than our own.

Scriptures: John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John (book-only, as spoken); Galatians 5; 1 Thessalonians (book-only, as spoken); 2 Timothy 1; Colossians 2

God's Overarching Purpose Is Redemption

  • If God's overarching purpose had to be named in one word, it is redemption: to redeem and reconcile humanity — that is why there is a Bible and why Jesus was born.
  • We were not saved only so we could go to heaven; we are left here to partner with him and take part in those good works of redemption.
  • Paul said none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear to myself, so that he might finish his course with joy and the ministry he received from the Lord Jesus — to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
  • Every one of us knows Christ because somebody told us about him; the question each believer must answer is, who are you going to tell?

Scriptures: Acts 20:24

Included in His Plan Called the Church

  • To Paul, the very least of all the saints, grace was given to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ and to make known the plan of the mystery hidden for the ages in God.
  • Through the church the manifold wisdom of God is made known to the rulers and authorities in heavenly places; it is a blessing and a privilege to be a part of God's great display.
  • Every believer is a minister in the biblical sense of the word — one who contributes, serves, and labors; not every believer is a preacher, an evangelist, or a pastor, but no one's service should be minimized or undervalued.
  • We were saved for ministry, we are gifted for it, and we are needed for it: First Corinthians teaches that in the body of Christ every part is needed and needful.
  • We have been authorized and given power according to Jesus' words, we are accountable for our ministry, and we will be rewarded — whatever we do, we should do it heartily as to the Lord, knowing we shall receive the reward of the inheritance.

Scriptures: Ephesians 3:8; 1 Corinthians 12; Matthew 28; 1 Corinthians 3; Colossians 3

How to Discover Your Purpose

  • Seek God in prayer; the devil, the flesh, and culture will try to tell us we are worthless and have no purpose, and a person's purpose is strangled when we listen to the wrong voices.
  • Many people are already fulfilling God's purpose without recognizing it; be who you are, let God use and anoint who you are, and do not let comparison to others distract you.
  • Be committed through prayer and practice — involvement and engagement; nobody has to ask us, because God already has, and as he sees our commitment demonstrated he leads and reveals specific purposes.
  • Seek the counsel and insight of spiritual authorities — parents, spiritual peers, and pastoral voices; God brings clarity gradually, like binoculars coming into focus, and nothing about our purpose should be forced.
  • Consider your own natural abilities, desires, and interests, using ten questions: your deepest desire, what stirs your passion, what stirs you to action, what bothers you most, where you get real results, the witness of the Holy Ghost in your spirit, what mature Christians see in you, and the goals and dreams you cannot put out of your mind.

A Prayer of Dedication

  • Standing together, the congregation is asked to consider the blessing of being a part of God's church and whether each person is really fulfilling his purpose.
  • Being his purpose is not always about being happy; it is about being what God wants us to be, and he makes it as easy as possible because he wants us to be his partners.
  • The lesson closes with a prayer of dedication: thanking God for his purpose to redeem, restore, and reconcile, and receiving his authorization and the anointing of his Spirit on every life.

that's part of the reason that he created us it's part of the reason for our purpose in him i'm going to jump right to the first text because it just fits right with that song if you need a lesson sheet lift your hands the ushers will make sure you you get one colossians 1 16 we're singing about how worthy the lord is here's some of the reasons we feel and know that he is worthy listen to this for by him were all things created hallelujah the creator of all things that's why when there looks like there's no way and you need a provision or you need a way the one that created all things that already exist can create something else by him we're all that was weak by him were all things created that are in heaven earth things we can see and there's a lot of stuff that we don't see and yet it's still powerful and great and mighty whether it's thrones or dominions or principalities or powers all things were created by him and here's part of the crux of the lesson tonight and for him everything that was created including you and i started in him and one translation says and finds its purpose in him and then ephesians chapter 2 and verse 10. now i'm going to ask for some response tonight i didn't plan to do it but it just clump up on me right now so for we are his workmanship right so you can say it out loud or you can say it to yourself it doesn't matter to me right now i'm his workmanship i'm a product made by him somebody translated it this way i don't i don't think they're stretching it and it's not arrogance i'm god's masterpiece somebody else said god don't make junk he doesn't he doesn't and so we're created by him and his workmanship created in christ jesus unto or for the purpose of good works he planned he wants us to join him in the good works that he does and look at this last part of that verse which god hath before ordained that we should walk in him in other words he planned a long time ago that you would join him in a purpose of doing good things that helped to fulfill his purpose god doesn't waste time he doesn't waste energy when god plans something it has significance and he said about everybody that's here everybody that's viewing and really any person created and that believes in him he has ordained us that we should walk in those things we're a part of the plan of god and tonight we're just going to look into his word about being his purpose there's many ways you could say that fulfilling his purpose but this fits with our church theme this year of 2021 be the church so we want to be his purpose in other words live out that purpose of the lord before you're seated would you thank him for his purpose and thank him for including you if you're thankful for that lord i thank you for your great purpose i'm so thankful for all of your wisdom and knowledge and goodness it surpasses anything we could even begin to figure out or imagine it's way beyond our comprehension i know but you've included us and i thank you for that also lord that you've included every one of us i'm glad to be numbered in your church thank you for it in jesus name amen and you may be seated

our life does have a god intended or scripture word god ordained eternal purpose he said where his workmanship created for him created for his purpose all of that tells us that god has purpose for us we're more than just somebody that was born into this earth born in a hospital maybe some of you were born at home i don't know but just birthed in this and we're more than just another number we're more than just a computer number or a social security number not to god he has a purpose and that purpose is to reflect him and to live out or flesh out his purpose somebody said there are two important days in our lives the day we were born and the day we find out why the day we started living and the day that we figure out why god wants us to live and how he wants us to live to be able to discover or understand and fulfill our purpose you can look at at least three things first of all to understand how god views us sometimes when we look in the mirror and assess ourselves we can be hard on ourselves sometimes too hard and i know it can go the other direction sometimes too easy but it's important to know and it's encouraging to know how god feels about us how he views us and then to realize how we should view ourselves and then to understand what god's purpose is both overarching in general and then even specifically for us so how does god view us that's so very important god saw a purpose when he saw you i want i'm not necessarily asking for a response here i just wanted to marinate a minute here he saw a purpose when he saw you he told isaiah he said i'm your creator you were in my care even before you were born the lord knows us there's nothing about our life that is arbitrary it's all for a purpose god does not view any of us as an accident your birth we're just going to get down to the nitty-gritty here your birth was not a mishap or a mistake there is no life that is a fluke of nature your parents may not have planned you but god did he wasn't surprised by your birth some of you were surprises to your parents and others but not to god he has a plan long before you were ever conceived by your parents you were conceived in the mind of god this is how god views us he thought of you it's not faith or luck or chance it's not coincidence you are alive because god wanted you created he could have stopped it couldn't he and the lord will perfect his purpose the psalmist said in 138 and verse 8 the lord will fulfill his purpose that psalmist had a perfect and a confident viewpoint about how god viewed him he said the lord is going to prefer perfect that which concerns me and will not forsake the works of his own hands god prescribed every detail of our life he knew what we were going to look like our appearance he knew what our race would be he knew what the color of our skin he knew the color of our hair we don't always agree with that sometimes we try to change that stuff he prescribed every that's called pastoring undercover including including your talents and your skills and the uniqueness of your personality and i'll go a little bit further with that little side comment we shouldn't try to change what he has intended and i'm talking a lot about our personality traits no matter what the happenings of our lives are no matter what has happened in your life previous or current god knew about it he knows about it and his purpose for your life is not yet over his purpose for your life is not yet over you know when things go negative and we when there's chaos in our life we think that disqualifies us from being useful in his purpose but you know what even the dead trees in the forest serve a purpose and we're not dead trees and there may be some chaotic things that have happened in the past and may even be happening and may happen in the future but the truth is those things have not disqualified you you have not been set aside you have been set apart heavier amen please thank you i hope i hope you're not lying because amen means so be it i trust you i believe you believe it we're not set aside we are set apart for a higher purpose in god we've got to live this life we do live this life but we're living for a higher cause than just going through this life and what you may think disqualifies you are going to destroy you can be exactly what god uses to make you what he needs and that happened in joseph's life it happened in daniel's life it happened in moses life it happened in abraham's life and you could go down the litany of the entire bible genealogy and it happened god uses what happens to us to make us what he needs us to be and so if you're in the nobody enjoys a trial nobody enjoys the difficulty nobody enjoys marital strain nobody enjoys pressure nobody enjoys cancer or sickness but in the midst of it all there's a god who is in control and if you and i will appeal to him especially in those times of struggle he will see us through it's important to realize how god views us and then how we view ourselves is important now god uses phrases in these two how he views us and how we view ourselves are connected but he he uses phrases in the bible think about words he uses when he talks about us things like redeemed purchased bought with a price beloved precious don't mess with me i'm precious by the grace and the goodness of god but we are we are that's why it's important how we treat one another somebody said be careful how you treat your your uh your spouse your wife because god's your father and your father-in-law yeah so how we treat one another how does god says redeemed purchased we're valuable to god now i'm not pumping us up tonight i'm telling you this is bible you are valuable to god that could change our day that could change our life that could change our outlook on our purpose that could change our relationship to god it can change our relationship with one another and so god help us and this is a good prayer to pray god help me to view myself through your eyes you know we always think of god looking at us trying to catch us doing something wrong and that was a misstatement we don't always look at that but quite frequently we do and but he's looking at us as redeemed as with favor god decided how we would be born where we would be born somebody else said there may be illegitimate parents but there are no illegitimate children they're all legitimate we're all legitimate to god god never does anything by accident he even created this world so that we could live in its environment all of the things the oxygen and all of the scientific factors that allows the universe to spin and roll and allows us to be able to live and the sun being at its proper place away from the earth so we do not burn up and and yet close enough so that we do not freeze today god created this oxygen and plant life and all of this so that we could exist as human life that's how he thinks of us why because he is a god of love you and i were created as a special object of the love of god that's what he was meaning by that statement we are his workmanship somebody wrote this russell kelfer wrote this poem and i think it does sum it up you are who you are for a reason you're part of an intricate plan you are precious and perfect a unique design called god special woman or man you look like you look for a reason our god makes no mistake he knit you together within the womb you're just what he wanted to make you are who you are for a reason you've been formed by the master's rod you are who you are beloved because there is a god that's how he views us and it's important then that we view ourselves in the proper manner i think i put this little statement in yeah it's the third bullet point under how we view ourselves accept and be yourself that's possessing a proper biblical self-esteem we can have the proper self-esteem we can do that without arrogance we can feel good about ourselves without pride god wants us to feel good about ourselves he wants us to feel good about him and about one another but he wants us to feel good about ourselves and here's what happens when we do not feel good about ourselves that affects how we feel about god and how we feel about others and so he wants us to have that proper biblical self-esteem in other words be your god-called god-shaped self now by being yourself that don't mean be be a lazy good for nothing when it comes to spirituality or life itself it doesn't mean just be a slacker that's not what that means god has formed us we already went through how he created us very purposefully be your god-called god-shaped self do what you can do be who you are do what you are comfortable doing per the will of god be comfortable following his will it may not seem to you or others that there is a purpose for you but let me just say this do not be distracted by the opinions of others what they think we are are what we cannot be or even what we should be do what you have been called to do in referring to his ministry and his purpose paul said in first timothy chapter 1 and verse 12 i thank christ jesus our lord who has enabled me for that he counted me faithful putting me into the ministry now ministry there is widespread it can mean doing what i'm doing tonight but we all have a ministry we all that word means to contribute to serve we are all placed in the kingdom of god we've been called into this kingdom and so you could put anything right there that comes into serving the lord and the kingdom of god the lord has anointed me or enabled me he said do we have that scripture brother eric first timothy chapter 1 and verse 12. i may not have marked it down for you first timothy chapter 1 and 12 and you may be looking at it on your device by the way when sunday i didn't give the disclaimer but this is a good chance to give it when i was talking about being on your phones and being on your tablets i know that many of you read your bible on there i do it up here and i know the feeling i feel like up here they're thinking i'm checking email and all that stuff i understand that many are just vile that you are loyally and honestly using your devices so i make room for that and i wasn't hitting you sunday when i talked about being distracted now if you're on facebook i am after you okay unless you're watching the service praise the lord back to the lesson get back there pastor quick he has enabled me you know i guess if there's anybody that had room to brag it would have been the apostle paul um of course he realized where he came from and we get to read about it but he's saying i thank the lord and he counted me faithful that word counted means deliberate deliberated counted in other words it wasn't just a whim god thought about it before he chose paul he thought about it before he placed us in the role that we are in he thinks about it but this word for the sake of self-esteem he hath enabled me that word literally is he has clothed me or he has fitted me like clothing is tailored to fit a person

when i went to the store to pick out this jacket now there were several there were others like this one and there was a 48 long and there was a um that one was too big there were other sizes that were too small and then there was this one i'm not going to tell you what size it is it's bigger than it should be and so went down the rack to figure out which one is tailored so that it don't look like i'm a cyclops walking around with the sleeves down to my knees and then i don't want one that's up here either it looks like i'm fixing to get in a fight clothed fitted paul said that's the way god handled me when he gave me a purpose and a ministry god has enabled or clothed you with a purpose hear me everybody you know when we use this generic word you in a congregation like this you know when there's more than one person listening to you you know if there's only one person and i say you that person knows i mean you but when you're in a congregation like this this size it's easy to i heard a preacher the other day said put your shovel away in other words shovel it over to the other person and get your rake out and say rake it in he has enabled he has clothed he has fitted you with a purpose and for a purpose now some of these guys that are smaller than i am i would get in trouble if i tried to wear your jacket and you would get in trouble if you tried to wear my jacket because it's not the clothing that was fitted for you so we get in trouble when we try to be like or be someone else we compare ourselves with ourselves something that we are really not and so we must accept our purpose in life and in doing that we must accept that you are you remember who you are god knew who you were what you could and could not do and so he chose you he doesn't need you to be somebody else that's a godly health healthy self-esteem and we can have that kind of a mentality

who does god say i am according to the scripture who does he say that you are here's a little list and i think it'll be on the screen this is who god says we are in john 1 and 12 he says you are a child of god i am a child of god i belong to him in second corinthians chapter 5 and 17 no matter what has happened in the past god says you are a new creation it all started fresh and new when the lord was included into your life you're a new creation in john he says you're my friend you are a friend of jesus a friend of god you're created to do good we read it earlier galatians 5 says you are free in christ whatever it is that tries to keep you in bondage from serving the lord and serving his purpose something that tells you that you can't do it you are free in jesus christ paul wrote in the book of galatians were chosen and loved according to first thessalonians he said we are the light of the world there are people today that saw his light and you may not even have recognized that they recognized it but they sensed it they saw it they sensed the light of jesus christ because of his spirit inside of all of us i'm going to tell you this is a dark world folks and we're so used to trafficking in the holy ghost and having the spirit of god and being around folks some you do not know there is no way to measure the impact you had just this very day and maybe it wasn't remarked about or maybe somebody didn't respond to you but when you were there they've sensed something different this is why we allow the holy ghost to be in our life every day and we have the power of the holy ghost yes when we're here worshiping god but we don't have a second kind of power when we walk out of this place but the same spirit when i sense it and feel it right now the same spirit that is upon us right here and now will be with us at eleven o'clock tomorrow morning or two o'clock tomorrow afternoon are all throughout the day the same light you are that light you are the light of the world that's why god views you and the world sees it and senses it and that's part of our purpose let it shine the little children's song taken from the scripture don't hide it under a bushel the kids would answer no and they always enjoyed doing it very forcefully and very emphatically no hide it under a bushel no madison did you sing that song sunday poor madison she had children's church back there and we went an hour and a half out of here praise the lord there wasn't enough coffee there wasn't enough games it wasn't hide it under a bushel thank you for that madison and others who helped you thank you to all of our children church workers stay with me tonight i'm all over the map okay just follow it wouldn't hurt us to sing that song in our life within this hide it under a bushel no i'm going to let it shine how can i be ashamed of being an apostolic now when you use a light we use it right don't hold a candle up to somebody's nose don't hit them over the head with a flashlight right you can misuse the light although the flashlight closer to the eyes especially some of those powerful kind they even put little warnings on them just be careful how do you use this light we can be cautious but it's a city set on a hill don't try to hide your light don't try to blend in we're not going to try to be any other kind of a church than an apostolic pentecostal church let the spirit of god move let the light of the gospel shine let the light of the word of god let the light of worship let the light of faith let the light of god shine through every service and by the way wednesday night doesn't have a dimmer on it it doesn't god is the same yesterday today and forever he's just as powerful somebody can be healed tonight god can take down a cyst god can straighten out a marital situation god can deliver somebody from a bondage tonight this light doesn't have a dimmer on it it's the same it's the same it's powerful the light you are the light this is how god this is what god says we are we may be going through some dark days but you're a light you may be going through some struggle but you still have a light and by the way if you're walking through that shadow here's what we know about shadows for in order for there to be a shadow like there are in this building and there will be outside when the sun comes out and you see the shadow of the telephone pole or the tree in order for there to be a shadow you know what it means there's a light somewhere and in the shadows there's the light and god is with you through every every moment and not only god is the light but that's why somebody be sent to the holy ghost god has a word through you for somebody else you're a light don't don't hide it don't put it under a bushel speak that word to somebody pray that prayer for somebody you are the light and the enemy would like to quench that light and he'd like to tell you that little thought you got you that's that's just you thinking about that that word that you have for somebody don't say that they'll think you're foolish or it may not come to pass they need that word come on folk we need to get bold here we need to be bold in the holy ghost and when god moves upon us and speaks to us we need a spirit we need to be led and spirit driven and we can come up with stuff on our own and try to figure it out on our own and and read something in the book and all of those things can help us but i'm going to tell you there's nothing like a word from god nothing like the touch of his presence and the touch of his spirit and so we got to take that light out not try to hide it ii timothy chapter 1 paul says he's not given us the spirit of fear we are not ruled we are not ruled by fear would you say amen to that and i had you say amen not only because you believe it but because somebody needs a deliverance from fear tonight we are not ruled by fear he has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound mind that means the right kind of biblical thinking not ruled by fear colossians 2 points out god says you're forgiven you're forgiven you're forgiven well i've never smoked a cigarette i've never had a drink except the long island iced tea i've never this i've never that i've never this i've never that but we still needed the forgiveness of the lord and no matter what you have done you are forgiven man i wish i had a jackhammer right now to drive that home you are forgiven you are free god doesn't hold it against you your brothers and sisters don't hold it against you the blood has covered it forgiven that's what god says we are god's possession we're free from the desires of the flesh when we yield to his spirit we are secure in him and we are loved by god be careful don't wear your own identity tag wear god's identity tag what he says that we are

and then to understand our purpose along with understanding who we are it's important that we know and understand god's purpose the overarching purpose of god if you had to nail it down to one word the overarching purpose of god redemption it redemption to redeem us we needed salvation we needed to be redeemed the reason there's a bible the reason jesus was born is to redeem and reconcile humanity which includes all of us in this entire world and everybody that has been born or that ever will be born when you look through scripture the overarching theme of scripture is redemption and reconciliation god's purpose to do god's will that's his that's his overarching purpose that's why we've been saved and called into this body yes so that god could take us to heaven but he wants us to do something before we get to heaven our purpose is not only to go to heaven otherwise if that would have been the plan of god as soon as you started speaking in tongues at an altar wherever it was you would have been zipped to heaven right there why are we left after we have that experience to partner with him to do those good works the book of ephesians paul wrote about to take part in this purpose of over arching redemption paul in acts 20 and verse 24 he said none of these things he was hearing about trouble he was going to have and knew about the trouble he'd already had he said none of these things move me neither count on my life dear unto myself so that i might finish my course with joy and the ministry or the purpose which i have received from the lord jesus and he tells us what it was to testify or to tell about the gospel of the grace of god in other words the most important thing in his life these weren't bad things but these weren't the most important to get married or to fund his retirement or to travel a lot or become famous or pay off the house or be happy he says the most important thing in my life is to fulfill my mission that's the most important thing if jesus died on the cross for you and i so that we could fulfill our mission and his and if we don't do it that is a massive waste he died on that cross for that overarching purpose of redemption to redeem us and then for us to partner with him to give the word of reconciliation to the world god put i want to get i want us to get just real personal here and just just aim this right at you god put you on the earth for a purpose he has a mission that only you can fulfill part of that mission a great part of it is to tell other people the good news of god's grace paul said really when you really look at this and scrutinize it all of us know christ because somebody told us about him for many of us it was our parents but somebody told them and however many generations you're going to want to go back it's all because somebody spoke the good news you know jesus christ because somebody told you about him now here's the question who are you going to tell oh that's not me i'm we are his witnesses this is his purpose who are you going to tell tell it we're included in this great plan called the church and it's an honor and a privilege to be a part of that plan of god's redemption i put on the second bullet note under understanding god's purpose consider your inclusion in his plan called the church what a blessing what a privilege i want to read ephesians 3 and verse 8 turn in your bibles there if you would chapter 3 of ephesians verse 8.

to me though i am the very least of all the saints this grace was given to preach to the gentiles the unsearchable riches of christ and to bring delight for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for the ages in god who created all things so that through the church the manifold wisdom of god might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in heavenly places god wanted to show the heavenly beings his incomparable wisdom so he created the church what a blessing to be a part of god's great display he has a personal purpose for you and we read it in ephesians 2 and 10 about his workmanship every believer is a minister every you are a minister now in our day and time we've taken that to mean doing what i'm doing right now that's not the biblical definition of the word minister it literally means to contribute to to serve to labor all believers are contributors everyone is a witness and a minister was true in the book of acts church and it can be true in this church of 20 and 21. no every believer isn't a preacher every believer is an evangelist every believer isn't a pastor but every believer is called into ministry by the definition of contributing and serving and we all serve in various ways in different ways different and i i want to just say this don't minimize and undervalue your service to the kingdom of god we just talked about children's church there's there's things that seem and look like they are more secondary or are are not the same as some other but not in god's sight there's a contribution to be made there's a service to be given every believer is a minister and i'm not going to take the time to read every one of these scriptures that is here but you can read here we are saved for ministry the reason he saved us he has to take away our sins and he has to change our life and yes it gives us joy but we were saved for ministry he has called you to serve him we are gifted according to the scripture we we have what hear me everybody you have what it takes i'm not pumping you up on this right now whatever it is that is your purpose in god you have what it takes he never calls us and embarrasses us he never sets us in a direction and causes us to wander and be lost he called you you are gifted you are needed for ministry that's that scripture in first corinthians 12 that section is about the body of christ and how every part is needed and needful we have been authorized given power according to jesus words in matthew 28 we are accountable for our ministry in first corinthians chapter 3 he talks about needing to be accountable for what we give and what we do under the lord god and for his sake and for his purpose we're authorized we're accounted for ministry and then we will be rewarded according to colossians chapter 3. whatever you do he said do it heartily whatever you do do it heartily as to the lord and not unto men knowing in other words you can rest assured that of the lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance for you're serving the lord jesus christ there will be a reward

so how do i seek or discover the purpose of my life first of all prayer seek god many perhaps have already know and found your purpose and i want to say this don't let the devil discount you or any those three enemies i talked about the other day not just the devil but flesh and culture they will talk to us and try to tell us that we are worthless and that we have no place or no purpose and that's a way that a person's purpose gets strangled and suffocated we listen to the wrong voices listen to this voice i've tried to give voice to this word tonight that we have a purpose he has our purpose in plan and in mind so folks seek god in the discovery of your prayer it shouldn't matter it shouldn't matter that we know what our purpose is and i let me say this also about that i think we overcomplicated i think many people are fulfilling the purpose of god that he has for you and some of them don't even know it or don't recognize it or don't give themselves credit for it but it's be who you are let god use and anoint who you are and your purpose is god's purpose and you may flesh it out in a totally different way than somebody else lives it out and fleshes it out in fact that's exactly the way god wants it so don't let comparison to others so seek god and then the next thing to do is be committed commit yourself to the lord through prayer and practice in other words involve engage let me help us with something i hear this man well nobody asked me nobody has to ask us everybody okay okay nobody asked me he did he did there's something to do there's some way to serve it and it could be and i'm i'm going beyond any church roles and positions here those would be included but there's a whole lot of ways to serve and fulfill the law and the will of god commit to prayer and practice involvement and here's what happens you watch it happen in scripture as god sees your commitment demonstrated he will lead and reveal specific purposes to you when you engage and you start being involved those men and women in scripture that were used in the kingdom of god they were busy right where they were they were engaged they were involved they prayed but they practiced involved and then seek counsel seek the input and the insight of spiritual authorities in your life parents or spiritual peers or pastoral and i'll just speak for myself god didn't deputize me to tell everybody what their role is i don't step into that area but if i sense something and begin to see it in a person's life i will very readily speak that about you or to you and there's been many times and some of you have talked to me that you didn't walk out of the answer out of the office with an answer because i didn't have one and i'm not going to pretend to have one but god can speak to us and direct us in through godly counsel and i have had it happen where as i began to pray with that individual in that office and in the days following those kind of meetings god just began to lift something to the surface or oftentimes i use the analogy of like looking through a set of binoculars and it all looks fuzzy and then all of a sudden you turn the little knob and things get clearer and clearer and clearer we don't have to force anything when it comes to our purpose and the will of god and if we force something that's gets us in trouble and gets others so seek the input and the insight of spiritual authorities and then lastly consider consider your own natural abilities desires and interest i read an article some a few years ago and this little table that's on the second side of the notes was a part of that article and the author just called it a reason for our existence it just was 10 questions that would help turn the knob on the binoculars maybe to help us discover our purpose and this this first one fits with that word consider considering our natural abilities our desires you know god's not going to change our personality now i know sometimes we may as we become engaged and involved in various aspects we lose some shyness and some of that happens but god's not going to change our personality he's made us as he has so we need to consider the author said what is your deepest desire the bible talks about delighting ourself in the lord when we decide to serve him he can actually give us the desire to do what we were created to do a god-given desire what stirs your passion what is it what stirs you to action what stirs you the most and that could be either good or bad what what bothers you the most you can be an activist to try to change that and make it for the better where do you get real results what is the witness of the holy ghost in your spirit position yourself to hear that spirit from from god let it stir you let it touch you what is the holy ghost saying hearing and listening to him i like this one too number six what do mature christians see in you believers who consistently make decisions those are good people to go to counsel with people who make decisions based on the word of god we must be careful about persons that are saying well this is how i feel this is what i think no how does what does he think about it go to mature christians who consistently make decisions that are based on the word of the lord you could see it in your life what goal or ambition or what thoughts messages visions or dreams are impossible to put out of your mind it just kind of stays there it just kind of lingers that that desire for that purpose and i i need to fulfill that i need to be that i need to do that what goal or ambition can you dedicate yourself to 100 a life calling sold out to the purpose of god sold out for his cause

i'm going to tell you it's worth serving him isn't it stand with me if you would please would you just bow your head for a moment i want you to consider the blessing that it is to be a part of god's church the blessing just we may thank him in just a moment but i just want us to consider what a what a blessing it is out of all the persons in the world god didn't necessarily pick us over somebody else we were blessed to have it offered to us and have it exposed to us and then you said yes to god and it is going to be worth it all someday and then i want you to just consider okay am i fulfilling god's purpose and is this what he has me to be and do am i really really being fulfilled you know sometimes it it calls us to do some tough things and make some tough decisions it's not always about being happy it's about being what god wants to be us to be and being his purpose and it doesn't have to be complicated it doesn't have to be hard to figure out god wants us to be his partners he's going to make it as easy as possible for us to fulfill his purpose so let's pray a prayer of dedication together right now just make it a personal point of dedication now lord we build our altars here tonight we thank you jesus we thank you for your church we thank you for your great purpose to redeem to restore uh to reconcile and redeem this world from sin you did it for us lord and now we want to assist you in any way possible to build your church or to be your voice in order to fulfill the grace of god being given to every life help us god and you will you've equipped us already you've made us who we are and you made us so that we could be useful to you in your kingdom we thank you for your purpose and now we receive your authorization i pray the anointing of your spirit upon every life that is underneath the sound of my voice right now you everyone to be authorized and anointed not because we belong to this church not necessarily because of the family that we are in but because of your spirit lord your spirit that is greater we thank you for it god and we're going to celebrate your victory and we're going to celebrate your purpose and you are going to culminate all things into your purpose i thank you for it now hallelujah in jesus name in jesus name
